- 2:21Speaker 1: hair care, but won't be offended by they all. Miss
- 2:24Speaker 1: Jesse exclusively caters to the diverse spectrum of all curly
- 2:28Speaker 1: hair types. I used to have curly hair type. I
- 2:31Speaker 1: used to be back in the day, was out in
- 2:33Speaker 1: the college. You you you you couldn't say tell me
- 2:35Speaker 1: nothing at all? Please working up money making conversation, Miko Branch, Nico,
- 2:41Speaker 1: IID have. I'd have little comments about you know, you're
- 2:44Speaker 1: talking about curly hand you know, fine looking hair care.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And you know I got some hair, but I don't
- 2:52Speaker 1: think I can find it as quickly as I used
- 2:53Speaker 1: to find the Nko. We know you even have curls.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Good good. I love the respect. I love the respect.
- 3:03Speaker 1: We'll welcome to money making conversation. Nico. How are you?
- 3:05Speaker 1: How are you doing? And SA you founded the company
- 3:07Speaker 1: with your sister, right, Yeah, it's just so good to
- 3:11Speaker 1: be here with Sun, so good to speak to you.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And yes, I started the company with my late great
- 3:16Speaker 1: sister Speaking Brands, and we started our business and our
- 3:20Speaker 1: Brownstone lighted our kitchen table. Okay, wow, okay, First of all,
- 3:26Speaker 1: thank you for that, for being happy to be on
- 3:28Speaker 1: my show. Where are you calling from right now? So
- 3:33Speaker 1: right now I'm calling you Touth, Florida. Um, Miami, I'm
- 3:38Speaker 1: what I'm able to get here? Yeah, Miami. The good
- 3:41Speaker 1: food down there. I went to a restaurant called uh
- 3:45Speaker 1: Havana and eighteen fifty seven, very good restaurant. I went
- 3:47Speaker 1: down that where when I was down there from January.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So I love the Miami. I love being down there
- 3:52Speaker 1: now on your kitchen table now see that that's that's
- 3:56Speaker 1: really a dream to say you started at the at
- 4:00Speaker 1: someplace where you would eat breakfast, launcher dinner, and that's
- 4:04Speaker 1: what that's that's what the idea the concept of and
- 4:07Speaker 1: of of what you what you has become a successful
- 4:11Speaker 1: brand and a trusted brand among women of color. Correct. Correct.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I think our humble beginnings UM was really a nice
- 4:22Speaker 1: way to connect with our customer. And it's luckily my
- 4:26Speaker 1: sister Tippy and our able to make products that really worked.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And when we started sharing the products from Salan homesome on,
- 4:35Speaker 1: it really really caught fire. And uh we even marketing
- 4:39Speaker 1: and making products of people who had similar here to ours.
- 4:43Speaker 1: The interesting thing about it because that what that's what
- 4:45Speaker 1: makes it authentic because you're using because you made a
- 4:48Speaker 1: product that you used. It is almost like what happened
- 4:51Speaker 1: with Madam C. J. Walker, you know, back in the day,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and it is your journey is is fast forward. There's
- 4:58Speaker 1: still no difference. You know, she was an inspiration. No
- 5:00Speaker 1: woman who had an idea saw a need for African
- 5:03Speaker 1: American women and also so I need that can make
- 5:06Speaker 1: them look good about themselves. Isn't that The bottom line
- 5:10Speaker 1: about your product is about making women feel good about themselves,
- 5:13Speaker 1: Making women feel that that that they're that what they's
- 5:17Speaker 1: been given to them them by God. They don't have
- 5:19Speaker 1: to straighten it, they don't have to do all these
- 5:21Speaker 1: different things. They can actually just live this lifestyle and
- 5:23Speaker 1: be comfortable. Correct God. That is the bottom line is
- 5:28Speaker 1: shown that the bottom line is being able to create
- 5:31Speaker 1: products that are helpful. And it's not just you know,
- 5:34Speaker 1: just not limited to women. It's for for everyone, including
- 5:37Speaker 1: the including little boys. Um, anyone who's had texture wants
- 5:42Speaker 1: the solution. It's just as really and you know, to
- 5:45Speaker 1: make make things that worked and uh and making that work.
- 5:49Speaker 1: So now when I was, when I was, when I
- 5:50Speaker 1: was doing research on you and you was talking about
- 5:52Speaker 1: the diverse curly hair types they named. You know, you know,
- 5:56Speaker 1: the whole thing is that you named the product after
- 5:59Speaker 1: your pert and her grandmother, jesse May Branch. So so
- 6:03Speaker 1: this whole brand, it seems so natural, so authentic, because
- 6:07Speaker 1: you go, where do you get that name from? Well,
- 6:09Speaker 1: that's my perternal grandmother. So what what what was the
- 6:13Speaker 1: inspirational instincts that she had that said, you know something
- 6:18Speaker 1: we're gonna put We're gonna put her name on our product.
- 6:22Speaker 1: M Our grandmother, Jessie Um played such a huge role
- 6:27Speaker 1: in our in our family, and particularly in the lives
- 6:29Speaker 1: of me and my sister teachings. You know, we spent
- 6:32Speaker 1: a lot of summaries and a lot of times sitting
- 6:35Speaker 1: around my grandmother was teaching table. And you know, she
- 6:38Speaker 1: happened to be a great cook. But if you sat
- 6:41Speaker 1: around Jessie me Brand, you couldn't just sit there. You
- 6:43Speaker 1: had to be a very very good helper, So it
- 6:47Speaker 1: wasn't uncommon for Tepi and I to mix the measure
- 6:50Speaker 1: to stir the poor a little. Did we know that
- 6:54Speaker 1: that experience of being a wonderful helper to our grandmother
- 6:58Speaker 1: would be uh, this steed for us to create its work.
- 7:04Speaker 1: But you know, outside of her, you know, seeing great
- 7:06Speaker 1: health and her being a wonderful cook. She was also
- 7:09Speaker 1: the first CEO we've ever seen, the first female field
- 7:13Speaker 1: we've ever seen, and that that woman used our family
- 7:16Speaker 1: from her kitchen table. So uh, Tech and I did
- 7:20Speaker 1: not go to business school, so when it came time
- 7:22Speaker 1: for us to make decisions in our own business, we
- 7:25Speaker 1: often happened to what would just you do? It's really
- 7:29Speaker 1: amazing because you know, we all know the times that
- 7:32Speaker 1: we are living in and guess what they're not gonna change.
- 7:35Speaker 1: It's gonna change the way we wear clothes, the way
- 7:38Speaker 1: we interact, where we where we shake hands, or whether
- 7:42Speaker 1: we greet people, and social distancing. You are in a
- 7:46Speaker 1: business where hair salons very intimate environments. How is that
- 7:52Speaker 1: affecting right now? You know a lot of a lot
- 7:54Speaker 1: of states are on lockdown. We know they're gonna get
- 7:56Speaker 1: out of that pretty soon. I believe that Martha made
- 7:59Speaker 1: you know, especially with them are in mask to be
- 8:02Speaker 1: worn now and things of that nature. How is that
- 8:05Speaker 1: affecting it? Because one of your questions about how you're
- 8:08Speaker 1: navigating this whole period that now doing the outbreak and
- 8:11Speaker 1: practice and safe social distancing. Talk to us about that.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So when they say that God works in amazing ways,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know he truly does. You know? UM Over a
- 8:21Speaker 1: decade ago and more than a decade ago, when Teach
- 8:24Speaker 1: and I first started making products, we really focused on
- 8:27Speaker 1: the customer and giving her the information to on her
- 8:31Speaker 1: is how to give us here is how to do
- 8:33Speaker 1: all these things at home. It was less about arm
- 8:37Speaker 1: in the style is, but more about teaching us how
- 8:39Speaker 1: to do our own hair. The fast forward to what's
- 8:42Speaker 1: happening now and all of the um social distancings and
- 8:46Speaker 1: everything that's going on. The good thing is that through
- 8:50Speaker 1: the natural hair movement, many of us have had a
- 8:53Speaker 1: head to start on how to take products likeness Jesse's,
- 8:57Speaker 1: bring them home and to be able to kick our hair.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You know, So in times like this, I don't worry
- 9:03Speaker 1: a lot about us because I know that we're very
- 9:06Speaker 1: We're very good at what we do. We have the dexterity.
- 9:09Speaker 1: We have to know how and we can train. When
- 9:12Speaker 1: I say we, I include myself as a customer. We've
- 9:15Speaker 1: been trained on how to do our hair all along.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So at this point, you know, many people know and
- 9:21Speaker 1: love Miss Jessy and know how to use it, so
- 9:23Speaker 1: in these times they're actually using it more, you know.
- 9:27Speaker 1: So that has just been so good and that he's
- 9:29Speaker 1: taught us. He's taught teeping on how to share the nation.
- 9:32Speaker 1: But he's also are many of us that what to
- 9:35Speaker 1: do in a case like this, and many of us
- 9:38Speaker 1: is self deficient. Now I had social media played the
- 9:41Speaker 1: role and some of the things have you done like
- 9:43Speaker 1: do it yourself videos and things like that on YouTube?
- 9:46Speaker 1: How how how's your presence been? You know, you're the
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know, the matriarchue, the voice, you the founder, one
- 9:52Speaker 1: of the founders of this company. How how has your
- 9:55Speaker 1: role changed during this time period and in the future,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know, you know my role, you know, it's it's
- 10:03Speaker 1: changing same way, but it's also remained the same way
- 10:06Speaker 1: before social media. There's even a thing teaching And I
- 10:10Speaker 1: spoke to our customer on our flash the land floor.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Thank god for the Internet and that at the time.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Then the chat room when women were talking and thank god,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you know, you're making products that work, and each one
- 10:24Speaker 1: told one about this job. Curl magic. It was curly
- 10:27Speaker 1: putting at the time, and it was groundbreaking because there
- 10:30Speaker 1: was nothing like it in the market. And that was
- 10:33Speaker 1: expressed fire. Justice was being mixed at the kitchen table Rashan.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Before the word going viral was a word, right right,
- 10:42Speaker 1: all right, yeah, way before social media. So now social
- 10:46Speaker 1: media is a more interactive way to get the good
- 10:49Speaker 1: word out. Um. But social media is just an additional platform.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We're we're able to connect with our customers and to
- 10:57Speaker 1: give her all of the information as you need. She
- 11:00Speaker 1: can continue to do all the things we know. It's
- 11:05Speaker 1: really interesting you say that because I know when I
- 11:08Speaker 1: was managing Steve Harvey, you know, we were I remember
- 11:11Speaker 1: two thousand and seven, that's when social media started a
- 11:15Speaker 1: peak on every appear on everybody's radar. You look on
- 11:17Speaker 1: TV and you see the Twitter Twitter little tag or
- 11:20Speaker 1: the host names and ambulance names and things like that.
- 11:25Speaker 1: But we had our little fan club. We had like
- 11:27Speaker 1: eight hundred thousand fan club members, and so we knew
- 11:31Speaker 1: when we set out a fan club to that they
- 11:33Speaker 1: wanted us, they signed up for that. But like you're saying,
- 11:37Speaker 1: you use, you're balancing both. You're balancing what you how
- 11:39Speaker 1: you built your brand with this new technique, but not
- 11:43Speaker 1: leaving the technique that started you. And that's really important
- 11:46Speaker 1: because as we all know, it's like you know, it's
- 11:49Speaker 1: like if you live and if you live your life
- 11:51Speaker 1: and only know how to live your life through electricity,
- 11:53Speaker 1: what supp gonna happen when you lose electricity? And that's
- 11:57Speaker 1: what you're saying here. If you if you built the foundation,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and that's what we're talking about right now. We're talked
- 12:01Speaker 1: about building the foundation. Just started at your kitchen table,
- 12:05Speaker 1: just started on the internet, just started with fan club,
- 12:08Speaker 1: just started with emails, and then all of a sudden,
- 12:10Speaker 1: this this this social media that has taken over the world.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You go, that's just a blessing right there, because we're
- 12:16Speaker 1: not gonna stop doing what we're doing. We're just gonna
- 12:19Speaker 1: add that to the blessing. The opportunity train that really
- 12:23Speaker 1: really betimes inspirational. Thank you for sharing that on my show. Yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 1: you know, just being able to create that foundation and
- 12:32Speaker 1: the key was, you know, making making conducts that truly work.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And you know during these times, there are no tricks,
- 12:39Speaker 1: There is no social media marketing. Again, it's it's too
- 12:42Speaker 1: just a foundation um to be able to be built
- 12:45Speaker 1: on with social media, with people in music to spread
- 12:48Speaker 1: the good word about Miss Jessica. All right, don't go nowhere,
- 12:50Speaker 1: We're gonna come right right back with Miss jesse She
- 12:52Speaker 1: has some signature products. We're gonna talk about, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 1: the work life balance. We're gonna talk about the self
- 12:58Speaker 1: care routine. We're gonna talk about that she started on
- 13:01Speaker 1: kitchen table. She moved all the food out the way,
- 13:05Speaker 1: the faults and bold and the knobs, and see we're
- 13:07Speaker 1: bout to get busy. We'll be right back with more
- 13:10Speaker 1: money conversations. It's finally here, the season of celebration. And
- 13:16Speaker 1: no matter how you celebrate with family and friends, whether

- 15:08Speaker 1: T E R dot Ai. Hi, this was Sean McDonald
- 15:13Speaker 1: and you're listening to Money Making Conversation. You know, I
- 15:15Speaker 1: get that people on the show all the time and
- 15:17Speaker 1: they drop nuggets of inspiration of information, and that's why
- 15:21Speaker 1: I started Money Making Conversation. Before we left the breaker,
- 15:24Speaker 1: Nico dropped a dime or called a whole dollar on
- 15:27Speaker 1: the show about you know, maintaining who you are and
- 15:31Speaker 1: just take advantage of the other opportunities that come your way,
- 15:33Speaker 1: but maintain your base. And that comes from now. When
- 15:37Speaker 1: we were talking about what role did did your paternal
- 15:40Speaker 1: grandmother played in your life? That that sounded like some
- 15:43Speaker 1: paternal grandmother information that you just broke off on us
- 15:46Speaker 1: on the show before we went to break right, Nicole, Yes, yes, yes,
- 15:52Speaker 1: you know what it's called. It's called love. And if
- 15:55Speaker 1: you're able to spread love, everybody be able to receive
- 15:58Speaker 1: it in the right ways. Just the real thing. Cool. Now,
- 16:04Speaker 1: before I left, I did a little you know, a
- 16:06Speaker 1: little tease and everything about what we're about to talk about.
- 16:09Speaker 1: So let's talk about some of the Miss Jesse's signature
- 16:12Speaker 1: product lines. Educated not only with Sean mcdonne, by my listeners,
- 16:16Speaker 1: because we know it's on the store shelves. You know,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I going, I going wal Rings, the CVS, h A
- 16:22Speaker 1: different targets stores and things like that. And you know,
- 16:25Speaker 1: mostly in in the CVS and the wal Greens they
- 16:27Speaker 1: have on uh minority high care or African American hair
- 16:31Speaker 1: care products section, that's where your product will be found
- 16:33Speaker 1: correct there and and and it's kind of other places, yes, ma'am.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And so let's talk about some of your signature product lines. Well,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I couldn't tell the Miss Jestice story proper if I
- 16:46Speaker 1: didn't even feed our first product, which was curly putting,
- 16:50Speaker 1: Curly putting with the ground breaker, the game changer. It
- 16:54Speaker 1: was curly. It's the pudding that purple. It did everything
- 16:57Speaker 1: it said it was going to do. Return your physics
- 17:00Speaker 1: into curly cues, and people just loved it, and then
- 17:03Speaker 1: you know, Miss Jessie's were innovators, so later on we
- 17:06Speaker 1: will come out with pole Soft curl. We were able
- 17:09Speaker 1: to marry hair kit technology with fabage ship technology and
- 17:13Speaker 1: it gives such a soft and nice touchable um curl.
- 17:18Speaker 1: But that there's also products like Jelly Salt Curls. Jelly
- 17:21Speaker 1: Soft Curls is another innovator and needs to jail, but
- 17:24Speaker 1: it's so saft for sean. You know, anyone can use it,
- 17:27Speaker 1: whether you're a man, if you want to create your waves,
- 17:29Speaker 1: or whether you want to just you know, do curls.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Anyone can music. And of course we have new products.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Now we have our new Sofi free Harmony not you
- 17:37Speaker 1: can get it in CVS. It's in a tub um,
- 17:40Speaker 1: it's a one. It's a gentle but so soft, selfish
- 17:44Speaker 1: free shampoo and everyone is really loving it. Right now,
- 17:47Speaker 1: you want me to go on, I'm on the website.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I'm on the website, that Miss jesse website. You know,
- 17:53Speaker 1: I'm looking at stylars for wavy hair, products for curly hair,
- 17:58Speaker 1: tight curly stylars for kinky hair. Then you come down here,
- 18:03Speaker 1: you got the you know, the curl collection. See see
- 18:07Speaker 1: the wavy, the curly, the kinky, the transitioners. Come on,
- 18:12Speaker 1: now you got something for everybody. The multicultural curls on.
- 18:17Speaker 1: My gods, Jesse, I love it. I love it. You
- 18:23Speaker 1: are everybody, everybody. It's true. And we just got the
- 18:28Speaker 1: news in today. Um Kanye West like kin kardashivian Um
- 18:32Speaker 1: was just posted some on the lower magazines by celebrity
- 18:36Speaker 1: guest songs on Andrews six centers and he loves miss
- 18:40Speaker 1: Jessie and we were just so excited to see if
- 18:42Speaker 1: he used miss Jesse hold me down on kicks Ashian
- 18:46Speaker 1: baby there. So we truly are coming up something. I
- 18:50Speaker 1: We'll just tell you you know. You know that's like
- 18:53Speaker 1: that that's like the blessing of the year right there,
- 18:55Speaker 1: because the Kardashes don't play around what they follow us.
- 18:58Speaker 1: They follow us are crazy good and loyal. That's like
- 19:01Speaker 1: you can't buy that when when you have somebody that
- 19:04Speaker 1: for a post, somebody has to pay a half million
- 19:06Speaker 1: dollars the post. You know, they brand how how their
- 19:13Speaker 1: engagement and when they tell people to go in a
- 19:15Speaker 1: certain direction, what that means for your brand? And that's
- 19:18Speaker 1: like I said, if you just keep telling your story
- 19:21Speaker 1: and like I said, when we just when you started talking,
- 19:23Speaker 1: you know, I get curious, So I just said, let's
- 19:26Speaker 1: see what she's talking about? Was she talking about? Now?
- 19:28Speaker 1: With just a website? You're not just kidding you. You've
- 19:31Speaker 1: done your research. You know, we may have started on
- 19:35Speaker 1: the kitchen table, but you're not on the kitchen table
- 19:38Speaker 1: no more, not in the two thousand and four. When
- 19:40Speaker 1: you start in mind, you know you in Miami, you
- 19:44Speaker 1: way above the land. So what what made you believe
- 19:48Speaker 1: that you needed all this? And I'm just asking a
- 19:50Speaker 1: general question because out of curiosity, you know a lot
- 19:53Speaker 1: of people want stand their land. But you got the
- 19:55Speaker 1: way we hair, the curly hair, the tight curly, the
- 19:59Speaker 1: key key hair, which lets you note the research that
- 20:03Speaker 1: all curly hair is not alike, right, so you have
- 20:08Speaker 1: to have you know, so you have to have a
- 20:12Speaker 1: hair care for that particular style. That's what is that?
- 20:15Speaker 1: Am I? Am? I saying the right things? Well, I'll
- 20:19Speaker 1: put a key this way. You know, whether you're curly,
- 20:22Speaker 1: keep you a wavy. There's something for you. You know,
- 20:25Speaker 1: it's not uncommon, Rashaun for two people, you know, to
- 20:29Speaker 1: use the same products. And that's the thing about clearly hair,
- 20:32Speaker 1: is it had a way or dealing with texted here,
- 20:36Speaker 1: Miss Jepsy's had a wonderful way of speaking to many
- 20:39Speaker 1: different um cultures, many different ethnicities, because there was the
- 20:44Speaker 1: common ground. And that's what I love so much about
- 20:46Speaker 1: what we do. We're not just talking about, you know,
- 20:49Speaker 1: the little girl. We're not just talking about We're not
- 20:52Speaker 1: just talking to women. We're talking to men. Whether you're
- 20:55Speaker 1: African American, whether you're Latina, whether you're you know, we
- 21:00Speaker 1: we have something for you. And I think we're all
- 21:02Speaker 1: looking for solutions and it has no color, you know,
- 21:06Speaker 1: So I think being helpful is the key. So just
- 21:09Speaker 1: as you know, we stay focused on that, and we
- 21:11Speaker 1: were able to build our product lines based on We're
- 21:14Speaker 1: just trying to come up with a solution to be helpful.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And you're doing that, and you do. I interview a
- 21:21Speaker 1: lot of people. I interview a lot of people on
- 21:23Speaker 1: this show, and I didn't bless to interview a lot
- 21:25Speaker 1: of people in the hair care business. And my number
- 21:29Speaker 1: one takeaway is that you provide information. You provide more
- 21:33Speaker 1: information about hairstyles than I've ever interviewed anybody on this show.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Because when I go to this one page, well you
- 21:40Speaker 1: get a description. You actually get a description of what
- 21:43Speaker 1: a waving hair is. You get a description of what
- 21:46Speaker 1: the curly hair is, you get a description of what
- 21:48Speaker 1: a kinky hairstyle is. Our transitioners whether the what, what
- 21:52Speaker 1: type of hairstyle is. In other words, if you don't know, now,
- 21:57Speaker 1: you know when you come to Miss Jesse. And that
- 22:01Speaker 1: to me is that that type of detail tells me
- 22:05Speaker 1: why you are who you are. You leave no doubt.
- 22:10Speaker 1: One thing I've learned is information is what makes people successful.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Information and communication is key to success. You know, you
- 22:19Speaker 1: sat down and not only launched a new product, but
- 22:23Speaker 1: you said, I'm gonna educate people about our product and
- 22:27Speaker 1: also tell them how our product works for them. You you,
- 22:33Speaker 1: you took out, You took all of the all of
- 22:36Speaker 1: the was and what they say, doubt are the questions
- 22:39Speaker 1: out of the certain matter because you're covering every hairstyle here,
- 22:44Speaker 1: every hairstyle. So my question to you, my question to
- 22:47Speaker 1: you is this. And I don't want to talk too
- 22:49Speaker 1: much because this is your show, this is your moment,
- 22:51Speaker 1: and I'm just excited because I'm being you know, all
- 22:54Speaker 1: this great information. I'm an information guy. When I started
- 22:56Speaker 1: getting information, I'm being educated because I started off the
- 22:58Speaker 1: show with the little jokes about being and ball headed
- 23:00Speaker 1: and they ain't got no hair and that now now
- 23:02Speaker 1: I'm like, wow, Wow, Miss Jesse is the bomb. She's
- 23:11Speaker 1: the original, she's the queen, she's the beast, she's the
- 23:15Speaker 1: mover in the shaker, And I am I am, I
- 23:21Speaker 1: am I putting too much love on you. Nko. Well,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, I think, I think Roshan I think less.
- 23:27Speaker 1: You know, for me, it's just hard for me to
- 23:31Speaker 1: not stay focused on our mention and what we're trying
- 23:34Speaker 1: to do. And I just really stay focused on coming
- 23:37Speaker 1: up with those solutions because I know people they want
- 23:40Speaker 1: to be their best and I think for many years,
- 23:43Speaker 1: many of us, particularly the person with the title coil Girl,
- 23:47Speaker 1: we have been straight in our hair for so many years.
- 23:50Speaker 1: So information was the key. She needed to know that
- 23:53Speaker 1: her hair is beautiful, She needed to know that her
- 23:56Speaker 1: hair is special, and she needed to be lined up
- 23:58Speaker 1: with the right products that are gonna make her hair
- 24:02Speaker 1: do all the wonderful things that it can do. And
- 24:05Speaker 1: I think that's why information was so key. You know,
- 24:09Speaker 1: my sister and I spent a lot of time in
- 24:10Speaker 1: our kitchen table mixing and we're also hairstylus, but we
- 24:14Speaker 1: realized that our work was not finished and that we
- 24:17Speaker 1: did have to we did have to educate and just
- 24:20Speaker 1: take it, you know, rewind and just start from scratch
- 24:23Speaker 1: and just kind of let people know or let them
- 24:26Speaker 1: know that this is what we were working with, and
- 24:29Speaker 1: you have this kind of hair, and here are the
- 24:32Speaker 1: products that work best with that. And I think that
- 24:34Speaker 1: that communication that you spoke about was really it was
- 24:39Speaker 1: it was the foundation for the relationship between Miss Jesse's
- 24:44Speaker 1: and our customers. Okay, then you know I'm playing with
- 24:47Speaker 1: your website, right, So I'm just going around, just clicking
- 24:49Speaker 1: the navigation and everything, just reading about your story and
- 24:52Speaker 1: just talking about your story to the public and the
- 24:54Speaker 1: day that everybody know. I'm in all of Miko branch
- 24:57Speaker 1: and the Miss jesse original brand. Then I came acros
- 25:00Speaker 1: the curl bar, Miss Jesse's curl bar. What is that?
- 25:05Speaker 1: That looks so cool? Book bar appointment down in foot
- 25:09Speaker 1: Lawida Dale, Florida. See that wasn't on none of my questions.
- 25:13Speaker 1: That sounds so that sounds hot right there. Tell me
- 25:16Speaker 1: about the Miss Jesse curl bar that down there. I'm
- 25:19Speaker 1: assuming it's the only location is down in Fourth Lauda
- 25:21Speaker 1: Or Florida. Correct, Well what Shawan Jesse's culbar was born
- 25:27Speaker 1: out of Miss Jesse's salon, and the lan was actually
- 25:31Speaker 1: created and our brownstone in the Bestage Cyrus section of Brooklyn,
- 25:35Speaker 1: which at the time was known as the Hood when
- 25:38Speaker 1: we built our business. Yes, that is where we built
- 25:42Speaker 1: our business, and that became our R and D and
- 25:44Speaker 1: our testing ground products that work out here in the market.
- 25:49Speaker 1: So part of this Jessee's heritage is the salon. It's
- 25:54Speaker 1: where we connected with our customer and it's where we
- 25:56Speaker 1: figure out what products are necessary to be put out here.
- 26:00Speaker 1: We don't. We try our best not to come out
- 26:03Speaker 1: with products just to put them on shelves to make money.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Although we are in business to ultimately make money, we'll
- 26:09Speaker 1: use that salon to really really understand what's needed. So,
- 26:13Speaker 1: whether we're in book in New York, whether we're in
- 26:15Speaker 1: our soho in New York, or whether we're in Florida,
- 26:19Speaker 1: Miss Jess always loved having a place where someone can
- 26:22Speaker 1: come and get their hair then if they want to.
- 26:25Speaker 1: So now we're in Fort Lauda Dale, so it is
- 26:27Speaker 1: by appointment only if you wanted to come and get
- 26:29Speaker 1: your hair gun. You can, but right now most of
- 26:32Speaker 1: the states and now in stud in Florida due to
- 26:35Speaker 1: what's going on, absolutely taking a little break. Well, I'm
- 26:39Speaker 1: just telling you again again that's why you're successful. See,
- 26:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you this. If this, if fus Sean
- 26:46Speaker 1: McDonald sounds like he's bragging on Nicole Bridge, I am.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I am because here she's telling you right now, the
- 26:55Speaker 1: salon allows her to find out if what they're delivering
- 26:58Speaker 1: is the real deal. Right there, it's a it comes out.
- 27:00Speaker 1: They just put stuff on the shelf. They don't know
- 27:02Speaker 1: if it's working. They don't know if if a customers say,
- 27:04Speaker 1: oh that birds my hair, but there's nothing for my hair.
- 27:07Speaker 1: They know for a fact, they know, they understand their brand.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And before we get off the call, I want to know,
- 27:13Speaker 1: because you are a brand master, you are a trend setter.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Over the last few years. What have you noticed in
- 27:19Speaker 1: beauty hair care industry trends and changes over the last
- 27:22Speaker 1: few years. Miko, Well, you know what, I'm not just
- 27:27Speaker 1: saying it because I'm mistested, but you know now preferred Miko,
- 27:38Speaker 1: you could brag on my show. You could brag on
- 27:40Speaker 1: my show I've already been bragging on you for tooth breaks.
- 27:44Speaker 1: You see it on Ora, you see it on Michelle Obama,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and you see it everywhere Nashale. Hair curly here is preferred.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It's how people want to express themselves. It's no longer
- 27:56Speaker 1: you know a beauty ideal to wear straight. Here, we're
- 27:59Speaker 1: in bracing all that God gave us naturally, and that
- 28:02Speaker 1: is the trend, and that trend is here. It's not
- 28:04Speaker 1: a trend, it's actually here to stay. And people are
- 28:08Speaker 1: just really becoming more and more pleased with what God
- 28:11Speaker 1: gave them naturally. And the stresses is just so happy
- 28:14Speaker 1: to be a part of it. Off there you go. See,
- 28:18Speaker 1: I knew, I knew I could just turn that key
- 28:20Speaker 1: just right, and you just are broadcasting the person that
- 28:24Speaker 1: you are. I would let you talk like that anytime
- 28:27Speaker 1: you come on my show. Understand, you are a blessing,
- 28:31Speaker 1: You are a visionary. You are what we need to hear,
- 28:35Speaker 1: both men and women in this world, all diverse colors
- 28:39Speaker 1: and races that we have about that need to understand
- 28:41Speaker 1: that do hard work, believing in the dream, committed to information,
- 28:47Speaker 1: doing the work, and willing to test your product and
- 28:50Speaker 1: make sure the customer really understands your product and be
- 28:53Speaker 1: willing to change if they say, can you make it
- 28:55Speaker 1: a little adjustment. That's why you have so many different
- 28:58Speaker 1: types because you listen to your customer and Miss Jesse,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I say, Miss Jesse, but I know your name, Nicole Branch.
- 29:04Speaker 1: You come on my show, an your time. I really
