Latest / Life For Toledo / Branches John 15:2
Transcript
- 0:00I'm thinking today of John 15, 2, in this verse, among others in this area of the Bible,
- 0:06Jesus is preparing his disciples for a time when he will no longer physically be with
- 0:10them.
- 0:11And he says this, he says, every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he takes away.
- 0:17And every branch that bears fruit, he prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
- 0:23Obviously, this is sort of a vineyard analogy going on here, and pruning means cutting away
- 0:28the dead stuff, the dysfunctional stuff.
- 0:31And so if we restated this verse with the words Jesus and God the Father in there, it
- 0:35would say every branch that is in Jesus that does not bear fruit, God the Father takes
- 0:40away.
- 0:41And every branch that bears fruit, God the Father prunes it so that it may bear more
- 0:45fruit.
- 0:46Basically, it's this, get in, bear fruit, get pruned, bear more fruit.
- 0:52He adds us, he prunes us, he adds the increase.
- 0:56And it strikes me that this is about what he does more than anything else.
- 1:01Praise God.
- 1:02He adds us, he prunes us, he adds the increase.
- 1:05Now you may be going through some really difficult stuff right now, and I get that.
- 1:09It's terrible.
- 1:10We do some of the things I've seen people go through that I've gone through in my life,
- 1:13my family's gone through whatever.
- 1:14Pretty bad stuff.
- 1:15But please allow that it may be some of the pruning that God is using to make you even
- 1:20more productive for him in the future.
- 1:22You'll be able to encourage someone who's going through the same kinds of things that
- 1:25you went through in the past because you stuck with Jesus throughout.
- 1:29And if you die, I forbid, you'll be in heaven with Jesus.
- 1:33But if you don't die, you'll still be able to be here and you can bear more fruit.
- 1:37Praise God.
- 1:38He's at work.
- 1:39He prunes us, he prunes us, he adds the increase.
