- 0:25Fix a leaky faucet with a wink a smile
- 0:29and charm the handyman the
- 0:32handyman can
- 0:35the handyman can cause he's
- 0:38good with guns and knives and makes the bad guys cry
- 0:41and the bad guys cry because the handyman makes them die yes ladies and gentlemen
- 0:51it is rare for me to talk about a film which i wrote but i wrote the handyman and now.
- 1:01Because it's out there on Amazon Prime, soon on Tubi.
- 1:05Check the links in the description now because it's out.
- 1:09And me and the whole team behind the handyman wants you to see it now.
- 1:14Eugenites, welcome to the show. My director, Alex T.
- 1:20Huang, star Eric Anthony Rosso, and the handyman himself, Kevin Calibre.
- 1:30Uh gentlemen g'day and welcome to cinema you getting hey well thank you thank
- 1:36you thank you thank you for having us yes kevin how you doing mate i'm doing
- 1:40good bud ready to talk some sharp like only the handy we can fantastic you were
- 1:46singing that song too weren't you the handyman.
- 1:52Eric and i were just saying we should have put that somewhere musical like a
- 1:56number at the end Like, you know, like right at the end, like we all come back
- 1:59to the light and all the dead, all the dead rise up and it, it becomes a great,
- 2:03you know, musical interlude.
- 2:05The mid credits just go full show tune, kind of like, or the Bollywood style.
- 2:11It's like all that jazz. It's fantastic.
- 2:16Copyright issue.
- 2:20Mate. And so Alex, that's real rain falling in the background.
- 2:23Because you said you were plagued by Wither doing this all week.
- 2:27Yeah, you know, guys, I don't know if you know this, Ken's the one who wrote the script.
- 2:33Yeah, we're talking about that. I was just hoping I'd convey the character like
- 2:38he wanted to in the script, you know?
- 2:41Yeah, so, yeah, you're right.
- 2:44I mean, the Wither's supposed to be really good in March and April.
- 2:50Usually it's really good. And the script is supposed to be all sunny day You know, good weather,
- 2:58I think it rained four days straight, the beginning of the first day.
- 3:03Then on fifth day, I mean, we had snow, we had rain, and the wind. It was unbelievable.
- 3:11But we got through it. I mean, we have to play, because it's a small-budget
- 3:17film, I mean, we couldn't cancel anything. Everything was all locked in.
- 3:20So we just had to make the best out of it, and that's what we did.
- 3:25Wow. there's a scene when girl comes out of the swimming pool,
- 3:30it's gonna be a sunny day but if you look at the look at the closely in the
- 3:34background you see rain coming down yeah yeah when Kevin was in the club I'll
- 3:40never I'll never I'll never listen to Mozart again the same way,
- 3:45no I agree yes it was some cold night especially the first day I remember it
- 3:50was really cold I remember Kevin the night that he grabbed my balls Yeah, yeah.
- 3:56He had to get a blanket on him because it was free. He had his boxer shorts on.
- 4:00Yeah. And it was real. I think he went to the 40s that night.
- 4:03Were they stunt balls or were they your real balls?
- 4:07So I remember I begged them. I go, please. They are stunt balls.
- 4:14But when we did the close-up, I go, look, can we put a couple of rolls of socks in?
- 4:17Give me something to make it look good on the close-up, please.
- 4:20Can we do that? Give me some dignity. and.
- 4:26I'm going to snort that was a
- 4:28fun night that was a great night yeah I love that line that's a great line,
- 4:33yeah fantastic you know kevin you
- 4:36are so handsome if you really were a handyman you'd be
- 4:39getting so much work mate i actually
- 4:43there was a time in my life whenever i was a handyman it was before
- 4:46i went to la and no bs
- 4:49it was it did come in handy the in the looks department
- 4:53my work was very mediocre but there was
- 4:55never they kept bringing me back for more and more so yeah
- 4:59it's a true life thing i mean it's true
- 5:02i mean you're like you know when brad pitt goes to fix you
- 5:05know leonardo dicaprio is like and tanner and he's up there just the excuse
- 5:09to take the shirt off and like have a ciggy and you really struggle with the
- 5:14cigarettes in this one you just can't get that sucker lit hey so i i think in
- 5:21the beginning we wanted to have him smoke,
- 5:23but I thought it was kind of funny.
- 5:26Originally, the script itself was, you know, it was an action drama.
- 5:31On the first day, I made a decision, you know what? We got good comedians,
- 5:36good people with the timing, good timing.
- 5:39I'm going to change it into action comedy.
- 5:43So, if you see him, you know, holding a cigarette or spitting it out,
- 5:49it's kind of funny, in a way, because,
- 5:52Throughout the whole film, there's tons of cigarettes nobody smokes.
- 5:56Even the villain, Cigar, you never see him, that thing lit and have a smoke coming out.
- 6:03He does get to smoke, though, by the end.
- 6:07Smoke vans or whatever.
- 6:12That was fantastic. So, yeah, tell us some of the war stories from filming or
- 6:20funny stories. I don't know if we want to say Eric's.
- 6:23We could let, we could. We'll skip that one.
- 6:26We'll skip that one. No, we could jump straight into some of the action stuff.
- 6:30The action team was, God, those guys are. Yeah.
- 6:33I'm an actor that does my own stunts. I'm not a stunt man. And I see the stuff that they do.
- 6:40And I mean, they're just, it's the falls that they take. It is,
- 6:43it was unreal. It was the same stunt team.
- 6:46Almost all new stunt players, but the same stunt coordinator,
- 6:48Gary Choi, that has worked with alex in the past so we kind of style that we
- 6:53were going with and but god you you just they they keep raising the stakes and
- 6:57we're on like cement and they're just taking these.
- 7:01Backdrops and slams it's like do you want a pad though no i'm good yeah i don't
- 7:06know i've got to say that i'm gonna say that beat near the end where you take
- 7:10that chick out with the hammer that's that's that's a brutal kill that one man
- 7:15especially with that one with that one i yeah i broke the hammer.
- 7:19I literally broke the hammer on her.
- 7:22Because we just kept going for it. Because with this, you're kind of
- 7:26if you think about the movie segmented up the first home
- 7:29invasion it's a little slightly slapsticky that's
- 7:32the you know the grab and twisting of the balls nothing you know
- 7:35really like your girlfriends and yeah right
- 7:39yeah then then then by the next one it gets to that
- 7:42garage fight that's where you start the brutality starts
- 7:45to come yeah yeah racking guys with wrenches and
- 7:48like this big falls are happening then
- 7:51by the time you build it all the way up to last
- 7:54third wave of bad guy whatever you want to call it they're like
- 7:57the more mercenary you know like the batter but let's say
- 7:59the guys keep then you we really get up to the chick
- 8:02with the hammer or tyler slaughter or the fish hook
- 8:05with the crowbar the crowbar yeah the crowbar thing
- 8:08yeah it was brutal that man yeah that was fun
- 8:11but but you see it almost not that it looked like a different
- 8:14movie but if you see it from the first fight to the
- 8:17last you see that the evolution it's not with
- 8:20some of the some of these action movies that you see whether it's over
- 8:24the last 20 years we've seen like like taken all of a sudden every fight
- 8:27starts to look the same where it's just lambs and the intercut
- 8:30or every john wick i mean you get the first fight first minute of the movie
- 8:34is going to look like the last one it's always gung fu but what we did we tried
- 8:38to kind of build it up in a different way to have uh you know to kind of play
- 8:42it all for you know again for comedy and just for sake of the stakes getting
- 8:46higher as it goes along yeah.
- 8:48One of my favorite bits is in the middle of a part, actually,
- 8:51where the girl goes timeout, and you're like, there's no timeout in fights.
- 8:58I love how Kevin growls sometimes. He's like the shark in Jaws,
- 9:02the revenge. He's just standing there.
- 9:06That was Alex's directing there. He just kept saying, grunt more.
- 9:12So we were editing the movie, and I looked into my editor, And also my wife,
- 9:18who is a producer, because I,
- 9:20there's a lot of grunting in this movie. Should we cut so much?
- 9:24It's like, no, leave it in there. It's good.
- 9:27It's like, yeah, okay, okay. Are you sure? She's like, yeah, it's fine.
- 9:33But we're like, You need to do a pirate movie next.
- 9:40My thing is, I don't like a lot of dialogues in the movies. You know?
- 9:45So when he grunts, that's basically his dialogue.
- 9:49That's how he talks that's how he communicates when Molly his niece asked about
- 9:58the boyfriend he's like whatever that's his character,
- 10:05I remember my first day I didn't know what my character was going to wear so
- 10:09I get there day one and I just brought so many options for clothing I have no
- 10:14idea I know this guy is a piece of shit piece of work and he's a lowlife.
- 10:20So I just whipped out this track suit and I'll wear that.
- 10:25That's what your guy would wear, his track suit. So I'm like,
- 10:28all right, I'll wear the track suit.
- 10:30Gotta enjoy, gonna get some of that fuck you money. Woo! Yeah,
- 10:33exactly. Fuck you money.
- 10:36I'm like, I got this Hawaiian shirt. Yeah, wear the Hawaiian shirts.
- 10:40Or a home of music. Yeah, wear the Hawaiian shirts.
- 10:41So it got more ridiculous to my outfits because my character was this,
- 10:46you know, wild, obnoxious, you know, jerk. That's who I was.
- 10:50Hey, do you want to know an interesting tidbit, right? Because when Alex pitched
- 10:54this to me, he said it's like Die Hard in a mansion.
- 10:56All of the gang members are named after Die Hard, the gang in Die Hard.
- 11:01It's true. Ellis, why? Now I think of Ellis. Ellis, Franco, all those there. They're all there. Wow.
- 11:07Now I'm not trying to read that. Now you're real. Wow, that's cool.
- 11:11Yeah. Oh, wow. So funny thing about Ellis was,
- 11:15And Alice gets killed exactly like in Die Hard as well.
- 11:19Yeah. But I imagine that person Alice in the beginning, it was a man.
- 11:24Yeah. But when we did the table read, she showed up.
- 11:29I said, hey, I need some people to read some of the scripts.
- 11:32And one of them was the handyman. And she showed up. I said, hey, can you read this?
- 11:37You know, it's a man part, but I don't have a body here. Can you just read that part?
- 11:42And she was really good. But that's when we decided to change the gender of
- 11:46that character to a female.
- 11:49Yeah, no, she was good. And I like my back and forth with her.
- 11:52I think we heard a nice dynamic in the movie, just going at each other.
- 11:56It was like an old married couple, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:59But that worked, I think, in the movie. I think it did, at least.
- 12:02That scene played really well between you and Joe with the whole thing where she's tied up.
- 12:06You know, keep your girlfriend tied up. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:10What the hell's wrong with you? That played really well. especially,
- 12:13yeah, we had an argument on the way out. She's pissed at me.
- 12:16Yeah! Something I would say, actually.
- 12:21When we were shooting...
- 12:23Yeah. So when we're shooting at the desert, that was smoother compared to other days.
- 12:31As I said, because of the weather and the rain, a lot of shots during the day
- 12:35that we're supposed to shoot, we couldn't do it. So we were switching.
- 12:40I mean, the first four days was chaos. I never, never had these issues before.
- 12:45But the night shot, day shot, we were mixing it together, you know,
- 12:49day for night, night for day. It was just chaos.
- 12:54The last day, or technically the second to last day at that mansion,
- 12:59it ended up being for a few of us. For me, Alex, the sound guy,
- 13:04John, and the DP, Adam, that ended up being a 17-hour day for us.
- 13:09Because we had to get the intro shot of the movie at the lake.
- 13:13So we hit the lake at like 8 a.m.
- 13:16Shot and then and then we had to get the pool shot because
- 13:19we filmed all the rest of the pool stuff around the pool without me going
- 13:22into it because again the 40s so we
- 13:25just kept in the can down the road until it's that final night that we're in
- 13:28there we're like we have to get the falling in the pool shot so that was last
- 13:32shot of the night everybody else had had pretty much gone gone to bed kind of
- 13:37and we had as many cameras on it as we could and i ended up taking in the pool
- 13:42fall twice and we did it like 2 a.m.
- 13:45So that was for some of that.
- 13:47But again, we had to get it and we were we're
- 13:51we're getting everything we could, but again, with the weather,
- 13:53just cold and rainy half the movie, you know, it's almost all supposed to take place at night.
- 13:58So there's only so much we could do during the day. And so, you know, we do what we do.
- 14:04And, uh, Alex just kept, you know, there was no, one of the cool things that
- 14:07we had a team that went between Adam and Alex and myself and John,
- 14:11it was just, all right, just keep going.
- 14:13Just, you know, if we got to go order, we do what we got to do.
- 14:16And anytime Eric was there, he was ready to go because he carried most of the
- 14:20dialogue for that segment of the guys, where the guys were all staying in the
- 14:25house. So they're all just kind of there and hanging out.
- 14:27And so anytime we needed them, all the stunt crew was just Johnny on the spot.
- 14:31And it was just, get it done.
- 14:34And I remember the desert location, we had a handicap where there was no electricity.
- 14:39Right at nighttime, there was no electricity. So we had to work as fast as we
- 14:42could because sunset was around 6, 7, 7 o'clock or so.
- 14:46So we had to work fast at the second location to get everything done.
- 14:50Yeah so but good thing about that was except the first day you know it snowed
- 14:56a little bit and uh rain a little bit other than that it was pretty sunny the
- 15:01very last day actually we got to,
- 15:04we had we got to,
- 15:07the last day when the the you
- 15:10know the explosions or the fighting running we were
- 15:13able to do that real quick and fast as we
- 15:16can and we were trying to get everyone out.
- 15:19You know uh before sun goes down so
- 15:22even yeah i wish i you know.
- 15:24This is funny thing i would i would say every time.
- 15:27I shoot a movie it goes god i wish i had two more days i wish
- 15:30i had three more days on this one god i
- 15:33wish i had two more days i wish i had one scene
- 15:36with kevin like a one i know we yeah moments for one
- 15:39last little fact like i i got shot in
- 15:42the head i get it but i wish i wish i had one moment
- 15:45because he grabbed my balls i want to have revenge for that just have
- 15:47one moment like a fight moment or something just wanted one more
- 15:50well that was one where this movie's
- 15:54cool because i am a big fan of movies where
- 15:57there's multiple bad guys for some reason it's just
- 16:00it works really well you know and
- 16:03there's just certain to have to have Eric be be like
- 16:06the main bad guy throughout meanwhile he's making the phone call
- 16:09then you hear and then we finally get to meet Joe's character
- 16:12at the end but and initially in the
- 16:15script it was supposed to be me and Joe have a physical altercation
- 16:18but Joe you know obviously is a little you
- 16:21know he's got got the you know bad needs it wasn't really meant for
- 16:24you know it wasn't the best of conditions to be
- 16:27fighting out there where a lot of them is a lot more
- 16:29controlled so yeah a nice hand-to-hand combat between
- 16:33me and one of you guys would have been you know
- 16:36which is like she brought up the you brought
- 16:39up i'm sorry i'm i draw a blank on her name now the blonde actress with the
- 16:42timeout it's funny because i don't know what order it's going to be necessarily
- 16:46as we're doing because editing you could really have fun yeah yeah so i go was
- 16:50that my final fight me and her that ended up being the last I love that.
- 16:56And she just kicks you straight in the ghoulies.
- 16:59Oh, yeah. There was a final fight before the helicopter blows up between you and Joe.
- 17:08I mean, there was hand-to-hand combat knife.
- 17:11But we decided to kind of modify that and cut that and just blow him out because
- 17:19he couldn't do those stunts.
- 17:25And we tried to get someone that they could do.
- 17:31Or try to play him, but the time that we have, it just would not work.
- 17:38So we had to change a few things. But overall, I think it worked out. Yeah.
- 17:43Yeah. Next one, we'll have you. Yeah.
- 17:47Awesome. But listen, talk about that ending, because I mean,
- 17:50the, the, the use of the combined use of visual effects and models really comes
- 17:56together so well at the end of this movie better than,
- 18:01you know, better than expected, huh?
- 18:04Yeah. For a low budget film. Yeah. So it looked amazing.
- 18:09So we had miniatures, you know, the car was a miniature.
- 18:12The helicopter was partially miniature along with the photos and stock footage.
- 18:19And also we use AI to create some special effects.
- 18:24We had a special effect guy also who did some other CG special effects.
- 18:30But certain things, when we tried on AI, it actually looked realistic.
- 18:39Certain shots so that's how we went so it's combination of cgi practical effect
- 18:46miniature effect and also better way eyes yeah so but when you put it all together
- 18:53you know it worked out yeah look i look i didn't know how it was great.
- 18:59I was look i was honestly really surprised when eric when your character got
- 19:05shot i thought oh okay, he killed him there.
- 19:08Okay. So that's not going to be this other bit, but then, yeah,
- 19:13I did not expect cars exploding.
- 19:15I didn't expect, I didn't expect the helicopter at all, but as Alex said,
- 19:20you know, we weren't sure we're going to be able to pull it off,
- 19:22but I'm glad that you did because yeah. Wow.
- 19:26I mean, yeah, it's got a Rambo two ending for God's sake, which is fantastic.
- 19:32I mean, uh, yeah, just capped off, you know.
- 19:36Everything that came to the fore. If you watch The Last Act,
- 19:41it goes fast because it's action to action to action.
- 19:46I mean, I always like Jaws or the new movies where you start with the action.
- 19:53So I wanted to start with a big boom in a way.
- 19:57That's where you see right before the credit starts
- 20:00you see handyman hitting the pool and the
- 20:04title comes up then he's at the lake so i kind of
- 20:07started with a little bit of boom but then there's
- 20:11a midsection like kevin said the handyman
- 20:14said there's a shot you know the fights in the mansion and
- 20:18the fights in the garage but they're not right
- 20:21after each other but on third act you
- 20:24you soon as you know the bad guy shows up you
- 20:27got mercenaries fighting cabin fighting you got
- 20:30gunshots you know the the you know gun battles in
- 20:33the cabin uh more uh fights in
- 20:36the desert helicopters fighting shooting at the helicopters running while things
- 20:42are exploding in the background it just goes bam bam bam bam bam i mean there's
- 20:46i just like that okay you know take a little breather but there's more coming
- 20:51bam bam bam i i like that yeah.
- 20:54It's fair i look one of the bits i love kevin
- 20:57is when you're doing like the the handyman sort of montage bit
- 21:00i love the bit how you just look at the paint cans again like
- 21:03you fix everything else look at the paint cans like nah
- 21:06i'm not gonna do that painting well well that
- 21:09one was funny too because it got to the last day
- 21:12and we were we're loaded out everybody was
- 21:15gone because it was an airbnb the cleaning crews in there
- 21:18and we're shooting all the way up to the last minute
- 21:21of the crew being in there so we actually got kicked
- 21:24out of the house but then there was the big garage area
- 21:27which had its own little bathroom and little
- 21:30office built in and we're still there and
- 21:33i was like we didn't get enough of the montage so this
- 21:36was after we already got kicked out of the airbnb the crew was
- 21:39gone it was just me alex and adam the dp and we were just stealing those shots
- 21:44and it's sitting outside and i'm supposed to be out and with the gate and i
- 21:47was like i'm just we're was just staring at the rain i was like what can we
- 21:50do here in the garage so yeah we're just yeah the paint cans i got the tools
- 21:54i'm just like unscrewing something just to screw it back,
- 21:58screwing light bulbs i'm like yeah i love i love it it's like he's fixed everything
- 22:02else between one look at the paint cans yet no i'm not painting nothing but
- 22:07that montage my favorite is very at the end,
- 22:11He looks at all the wires. Yeah, and this guy's not. He's just going, oh, screw it.
- 22:20Next minute, he's out in the hot tub with a glass or something,
- 22:23and it's just like, yeah, nah. Yeah.
- 22:25But I do love the hero shot when he first encountered the bad guys.
- 22:31Kevin walks in, he's just a boxer, short, and the white feeder. Yeah, that's great.
- 22:36And he takes off his mask that he stole from the bad guy. Yeah. And growls. Yeah.
- 22:45And after that, he throws the bad guys outside the house. And he walks in.
- 22:51You got a hero shot from the bottom up.
- 22:52I think that looks really good in slow-mo. Yeah.
- 22:56Neighborhood watch, asshole. Who the fuck are you? You know?
- 23:03I haven't taken a crap in a week. I need some.
- 23:07This was a bad shoot. If I looked at it again, what I would have done differently
- 23:14was, we should have shot all the days seen at the mansion, straight three days,
- 23:20or even two days, take a breather, then take another two nights just shooting
- 23:26the night scene instead of going back and forth the same day, you know, chaos.
- 23:30But, I mean, this is what it is. We got it done. Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:35No, it's good. It's out there. Our listening audience right now,
- 23:39the link's in the description.
- 23:40Get over to Amazon Prime and you don't have to waste any more time.
- 23:46The handyman is there and you can check out what we've been talking about.
- 23:50You can see the very handsome Eric Rosso, the very handsome Kevin Kalbar, who is so handsome.
- 23:58In fact, in a alternate universe, he's playing me in a TV movie about the story of my life.
- 24:06You mentioned Alex's cameo in this movie.
- 24:09I know. And I was just about to say, Alex, I watched the movie twice before
- 24:13I realized that you do an Alfred Hitchcock in this movie.
- 24:17I don't usually be in my own movie.
- 24:20So what happened was that scene where Kevin's dreaming or thinking about his
- 24:26partner getting killed, there was another actor and we set up everything and
- 24:31he's getting laid. I'm like, where is his son's going now?
- 24:35And he called he was in traffic and we
- 24:38told him you know what just turn around it's okay we'll set up another date
- 24:42and I'm like you know what we have the props here screw it let's just shoot
- 24:47it give me the bag give me the gun let's just go with it you know it's like
- 24:51who's gonna play it my DP Adam goes who's gonna play it I'll do it do it.
- 24:56Look I said I watched it twice obviously if we would have known that we could have gotten something,
- 25:03while we were all together You know, one of those ones where,
- 25:06cause I did a little bit of a, of a, of a visual change for a flashback where
- 25:10I did, you know, knock down the beard.
- 25:12Yeah. Yeah. Try to try to make myself not the, not the old grunty drunk guy.
- 25:18And like, that would have been per if we would have known, but you,
- 25:22you know, you, you want to get a different actor in there and,
- 25:24you know, but at the end of the day, the show must go on.
- 25:27So what was in, what was in your, what was in your poison, Kevin?
- 25:31What was he, what were you really drinking? Yeah.
- 25:34I know it wasn't really booze. It was like Diet Coke and wine.
- 25:39So it's, yeah, and I don't drink soda. So it was the most, it was the most soda.
- 25:44Because I've heard that they use iced tea sometimes as well.
- 25:47Yeah. Iced tea? Have you had an iced tea? Iced tea is a big one.
- 25:51Iced tea problem with iced tea, though.
- 25:53I know whenever you put it in a bottle, it'll get a little funky.
- 25:57It'll start to separate where cola is consistent all the way through.
- 26:02So why not yeah especially boy that that stuff was showcased quite a bit you
- 26:07didn't want that separation there in that box getting called out on it you know
- 26:12no no because he liked his uh.
- 26:15Little libations so kevin let me what was your favorite kill i mean when you
- 26:21look at you did all the stuns and stuff what was your favorite kill uh i think
- 26:27it was i think it was with tyler The crowbar.
- 26:30That's my hope. I love that one. Yeah, it was.
- 26:33That one was fun because Tyler, just the way that he came in,
- 26:38because that one, the scene opens up with a Superman punch.
- 26:41He gets a couple shots off. We do an insert of a drop in of the clip.
- 26:46And then there's the crowbar. And whenever I got him, he did the Scorpion where he lands face first.
- 26:51Like you know then i mean just that whole
- 26:54thing was just every one of those little sequences was
- 26:58cool and then to put it all in a jam pad that was uh that
- 27:01was something something really cool but there's some there's so many so many
- 27:05good and fun ones i said we're talking about the hammer one the hammer really
- 27:08was just you know because the fun part was i was like all right i want to use
- 27:12the tools he's the handyman he's got the hands on him so what what tools do
- 27:17we get to use so that's one One of my favorite bits where,
- 27:20when he pulls up and he's in the car, it's like, should I use a wrench? No.
- 27:24Yeah. The chainsaw? No.
- 27:26I need the M16 with the, with the grenade launcher. Yes. I remember the,
- 27:31I'm like, yes, this is the one.
- 27:33I remember the screening and I remember the reaction of the crowd with that
- 27:36crowbar. Oh, and then you just hear the crowd like with the hammer, like, oh.
- 27:41Because Alex, Alex was, I have to say Alex was pretty faithful in this to getting
- 27:45like the matching the poster art with the film.
- 27:49Like usually the posters like
- 27:50better than the movie, but he managed to get everything that he put on.
- 27:54Good job, Alex. And I was just waiting for Kevin to strap on a belt with like
- 27:5816 wrenches, like in the AI.
- 28:03And this is like, I bought my 16 wrenches of death to like kill every one of them.
- 28:09And, uh, yeah, that would have been. And all of a sudden we look at his hand
- 28:13and he's got like 10 fingers.
- 28:15Oh yeah. You know, we, we thought about having her, having him kill people with
- 28:22the screwdrivers and stuff like that. Yeah, like throwing screwdrivers like ninja stuff.
- 28:27You can't really see it. It's a body. The head is one thing. It's a body.
- 28:32Yeah, so we're like, let's use a hammer. And you know what made it work?
- 28:37It's his, you know, just... Yeah, that's savvy. I agree.
- 28:43The girl, Julia, the way she screamed, that worked really bad.
- 28:50You know, it made it work. Her scream.
- 28:52Yeah. That was great. Cause even, uh, even the knife that I use for a Daniels
- 28:56character after, after he executed Ellis, that, that, that's more like a box cutter utility knife.
- 29:02It's not a, you know, it's not a commando knife.
- 29:05It's specifically a tool right out of the, uh, right out of the tool belt.
- 29:08So it's, uh, yeah, we could have gotten, but, but, you know, we still did.
- 29:12I mean, there was still the utility nut. Yeah. Let's say a hammer and,
- 29:15you know, I beat the hell out of them with wrenches and crowbars and all things
- 29:18that are legit handyman tools.
- 29:21Yeah. I love how he gets to say it. Like, that's why I put it in there specifically.
- 29:26He's got to say like, so what do you do for a living?
- 29:30I'm a handyman. I mean, it's, it's iconic. It's like, I'm Batman. Yeah, exactly.
- 29:38We did variations of it. Like one time I tried to play it off.
- 29:42Like I'm just a handyman, you know, it's not just a handyman.
- 29:49You know, give it that nice Clint Eastwood out of the side of your mouth.
- 29:56Lucky. Yeah.
- 30:00I mean, overall, I mean, I hope your audience goes to it. I mean,
- 30:06like you said, he's on Amazon.
- 30:07He'll be on Tubi in next few weeks. Oh, sweet. Yeah. So.
- 30:18I may work on it I'm not there yet I may work on it but it's like you said it's
- 30:26die hard in the mansion die hard in a action pack in a desert you know,
- 30:33I think,
- 30:35If you like action movies from beginning to end, and you want to see a lot of
- 30:40action, instead of just action here, action there,
- 30:43I think The Handyman is one of those movies that has action throughout the whole movie.
- 30:50And if you look at it, it's different.
- 30:53You know, first one is hand-to-hand, nobody gets killed.
- 30:56Then as time goes, the action gets bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 31:02And darker, too. with it. I mean, just, like, when it starts talking about comedy,
- 31:06then it gets progressively darker and more sinister, and just,
- 31:09it's sort of full-blown, kick-ass action movie, you know?
- 31:12But with light-hearted, you know, comic lines and comic timing, yeah.
- 31:19You know, it's all there, yeah. So, last question around the table,
- 31:24what do you think is in the box?
- 31:27Oh, what's in the box? Come on, what's in the box?
- 31:31I know, they wouldn't tell me. I just had to do the reactions Oh you're looking
- 31:35at Cross we're going to reference full picture I think Do white chocolate No,
- 31:40Marcellus Wallace's soul Right Yeah exactly,
- 31:44So that was direction Like Eric It's a bar of Sydney Sweeney's soap.
- 31:52Alex like you admire it He's giving me You know directions As I'm looking And
- 31:55the camera's on me It's this It's that So I need to see A sack Kennedy's I'm
- 32:00like oh You know I like the infinity stone I like that one it's an infinity stone.
- 32:08And the handyman touches it. He becomes handier man.
- 32:13The handier man. I am handyman.
- 32:17There was a talk. There was a talk at the end of the movie.
- 32:23I mean, at the end of the movie, we see Molly picking up and taking it with
- 32:28her. But there was a talk before that shoot.
- 32:31She doesn't find it. But later on, after the credit goes, in the middle of the
- 32:37desert, you see a deer coming, passing by at night, and all you see is a glowing light at a box.
- 32:46We thought about that, but we said, no, let's just keep it grounded as much as possible.
- 32:53It's the Pop Fiction Box, folks.
