- 1:17Speaker 1: in double a CP Image Award and SAG Award nominated actress,
- 1:22Speaker 1: TV Actress, Film actress, producer and fitness entrepreneur. Boy, please
- 1:28Speaker 1: work with the money making conversation fitness expert at least Neil.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So you're there, miss Neil here. Now, I gotta tell you,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I've seen Logan, the movie Logan about seventeen times. It's
- 1:45Speaker 1: an incredible good movie. You play a major pivocal role, pivole.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Can I just talk about that movie a little because
- 1:51Speaker 1: you because first of all, just just just what happened
- 1:54Speaker 1: to you in the movie stunned me because I just
- 1:56Speaker 1: knew that was not gonna happen, but seventeen times it's happened.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And uh that has to be uh you know, from
- 2:03Speaker 1: a from a because the movie almost I think made
- 2:06Speaker 1: like eight hundred million dollars worldwide. When you're participate in
- 2:10Speaker 1: the movie like that logan, what does that do to
- 2:12Speaker 1: your brand? And how does that impact you know, because
- 2:15Speaker 1: every day. Because first of all, you you know, everybody
- 2:18Speaker 1: has seen the movie. You're crossing so many racial lines,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and when you were starting over like that, what effect
- 2:23Speaker 1: did it have on your career? Well, first of all,
- 2:27Speaker 1: the first question becomes about wait holding, let me take
- 2:30Speaker 1: your honey. Okay. The first question is like, as an actor,
- 2:35Speaker 1: when you get something that big, you already know, like
- 2:38Speaker 1: we know Wolverine. Everybody knows Wolverine, right, So when you
- 2:43Speaker 1: get that audition for something that big, it's like, oh man,
- 2:47Speaker 1: you know it's that long shot audition that you hope
- 2:50Speaker 1: you're gonna get because you know it's a big role.
- 2:53Speaker 1: You know, uh, it's impact is going to be worldwide,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and um, to get it first of all was just
- 3:03Speaker 1: like that I'm type of moments that we actives have
- 3:08Speaker 1: when it's something really special that you know you're about
- 3:11Speaker 1: to be part of. And I'm such a huge Hugh
- 3:15Speaker 1: Jackman fan to begin with. You know, I started my
- 3:19Speaker 1: career in musicals and dancing and things like that, and
- 3:23Speaker 1: of course Hugh Jackman is that all around entertainer that
- 3:27Speaker 1: I've always been a super fan of so to not
- 3:31Speaker 1: only get it, but to come to work with him,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and I mean I couldn't do anything but kind of
- 3:39Speaker 1: geek out when I first saw him. And I literally
- 3:41Speaker 1: I literally danced over to him when we said him
- 3:44Speaker 1: for the first time because I'm like, I'm such a
- 3:47Speaker 1: huge fan. But you know, coming to work room every
- 3:50Speaker 1: day was great, you know, he was he was very kind,
- 3:53Speaker 1: he was very sweet, very giving. He when he found
- 3:55Speaker 1: out that I also did musical, he always played like
- 3:59Speaker 1: a different Broadway soundtracks in the morning. Yeah, it was
- 4:02Speaker 1: a great experience. Big fans. Now you you that's the
- 4:06Speaker 1: part right there. You got the role, you participate in
- 4:09Speaker 1: the production. Now the movie comes out. Yeah, the film
- 4:16Speaker 1: comes out, and you know we acted here they have
- 4:19Speaker 1: been doing in a while. I mean, everybody's different, but
- 4:22Speaker 1: I've always been about you know, oh that's you know,
- 4:24Speaker 1: it's really cool when you know fans seem to like
- 4:27Speaker 1: it once it comes out. But one of those big
- 4:30Speaker 1: things that let me know that it was huge is
- 4:33Speaker 1: when I get an email from the the agent. It
- 4:36Speaker 1: was like in early morning with numbers. You know, I'm saying,
- 4:41Speaker 1: with box office numbers like first opening weekend almost ninety millions,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and it's like, oh, okay, huge hit, huge hit. IM
- 4:54Speaker 1: in another huge hit film. And you know, I was
- 4:57Speaker 1: really excited about it. I've I've been led us to
- 5:00Speaker 1: be a part of that, you say, crossing the lines
- 5:05Speaker 1: in Hollywood. A lot of things I've done have been
- 5:08Speaker 1: not necessarily just a one audience would appreciate, and you know,
- 5:13Speaker 1: things like screen to you know, several other things. But
- 5:17Speaker 1: this was really good. It's been a while since I
- 5:19Speaker 1: was a part of some something so big and so bad.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So it was great. Okay, cool because like I said,
- 5:26Speaker 1: it's probably gonna come on again this Neil, and I'm
- 5:28Speaker 1: a you know, like a like a crazy person. I'm
- 5:31Speaker 1: gonna just stop and look at it like I've never
- 5:33Speaker 1: seen it before for some reasons. Fun and crazy. It's fun.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It's crazy when it first came out, and I do
- 5:40Speaker 1: travel um quite a bit, but I was literally on
- 5:44Speaker 1: a plane when it kind of like it's only been
- 5:46Speaker 1: out like maybe two weeks, and I was on a
- 5:48Speaker 1: plane and I'm walking back to my seat down the
- 5:52Speaker 1: aisles and I'm like seeing people watch the movie on
- 5:56Speaker 1: their plane. That cool. You know, You're you're looking less
- 6:01Speaker 1: to writing. You're like, oh, they're watching that. Okay, cool,
- 6:03Speaker 1: they're watching Okay like that. That was kind of dope. Okay, Okay.
- 6:09Speaker 1: With that being said that people people know that they
- 6:12Speaker 1: put two and two together. I don't think anybody is
- 6:16Speaker 1: putting any two to two together when we're all in
- 6:18Speaker 1: that plane trying to figure out get there safely. That's yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 1: it's interesting, okay, Okay, about about you? When I know
- 6:30Speaker 1: because I met you in the sitcom world on the
- 6:32Speaker 1: Huge Lis way back then, and but you've done You've
- 6:35Speaker 1: done a second, second, second television show, Yes, the second
- 6:38Speaker 1: television show, and you went on to do many more
- 6:41Speaker 1: different television shows. You know, So when you when you
- 6:44Speaker 1: when you look at shows like you know, t s
- 6:46Speaker 1: I one of my favorite shows, Scandal, one of my
- 6:49Speaker 1: favorite shows all of us, you know, Private Practice. I'm
- 6:52Speaker 1: seeing a mixture of drama and I'm seeing a mixture
- 6:55Speaker 1: of sitcom. Not many people can do that. It's Neil
- 7:01Speaker 1: how you know, I'm just as a compliment when I
- 7:05Speaker 1: say that. So no, I'm saying thank you. So what
- 7:10Speaker 1: what what? What? What mindset? What allows you to click
- 7:13Speaker 1: it on? It off? Because some people just be funny
- 7:15Speaker 1: and then some people just can be dramatic or they
- 7:17Speaker 1: try to be funny, but it doesn't work at all.
- 7:21Speaker 1: So I think it's for me, it's it's it's it's
- 7:24Speaker 1: a muscle that was and still when I was training,
- 7:28Speaker 1: you know, as an actor, because my journey, like I said,
- 7:31Speaker 1: started with musical theater and trained for that. And then
- 7:35Speaker 1: when I made a decision to try to be in
- 7:38Speaker 1: the acting world, you know, I took it the same
- 7:40Speaker 1: type of seriousness that I did when I started dancing.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You can't necessarily start tap dancing without some instructor teaching
- 7:48Speaker 1: you have, and so I studied a lot um. I
- 7:52Speaker 1: was living in New York when I first started acting,
- 7:55Speaker 1: so I did a lot of theater, I did a
- 7:57Speaker 1: lot of you know, inexp into acting classes. I did
- 8:02Speaker 1: what I could what I could, and then by the
- 8:04Speaker 1: time I made a decision to come to l A,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I studied at a summer program for the American Academy
- 8:11Speaker 1: of Dramatic Art, and I think what I learned there
- 8:15Speaker 1: was extremely helpful and finding ways to do both muscles.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And at the end of the day, I'm both people.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I can be just as silly and goofy as the
- 8:23Speaker 1: next person, but I'm also trained and understand, like for
- 8:28Speaker 1: a long time before even people knew my name. The
- 8:31Speaker 1: monologue that I did was the say Shakespearean monologue that
- 8:34Speaker 1: I had learned in acting class. So I have the
- 8:39Speaker 1: ability to go back and forth from both muscles pretty easily.
- 8:43Speaker 1: There's another reason why she's calling on the show because
- 8:48Speaker 1: you posted a picture of your fiftieth birthday on the
- 8:51Speaker 1: social media, your internet. As they say, some things shut
- 8:55Speaker 1: down the Internet, uh go viral? Well, the pictures she
- 8:59Speaker 1: post to the fitness look did that. When we come back,
- 9:03Speaker 1: We're gonna talk to her about that transition, I should
- 9:06Speaker 1: say transition the at least body boot Camp. We've been
- 9:10Speaker 1: back with more mighty making conversations. Highs for Sean McDonald.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I'm back and she's on the phone. At least Neil,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you're still there. Yes, I am okay. So, so on
- 9:25Speaker 1: your fiftieth birthday, most people are afraid on their fiftieth
- 9:28Speaker 1: birthday to post anything about themselves physically. So you decided
- 9:35Speaker 1: to take a picture, you know, one of selfie pictures.
- 9:37Speaker 1: You know, it wasn't a professional picture of were you
- 9:40Speaker 1: or were you launching your brand when you took that
- 9:42Speaker 1: photo or it was just a feel down for you,
- 9:47Speaker 1: you break it down to me my reason, there was
- 9:51Speaker 1: really a reason and purpose about the whole thing. You know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: I I okay, first of all, I'm actress. I'm here
- 10:01Speaker 1: in Hollywood. It's not like I'm not unaware of stigmas
- 10:06Speaker 1: about Hollywood being about the youth, Hollywood being about fresh
- 10:10Speaker 1: and young and what's special and important to the powers
- 10:15Speaker 1: that be in Hollywood. And as a person who's been
- 10:19Speaker 1: blessed enough to have I've traveled a lot. Especially I'll
- 10:22Speaker 1: always go back to it being an entertainer and being
- 10:25Speaker 1: a dancer and doing musicals. I got three passports from
- 10:28Speaker 1: all the different beautiful cities in the world I've been
- 10:31Speaker 1: able to see be a part of and cultures and stuff,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and it makes me think a little differently about a
- 10:37Speaker 1: lot of things, and especially when it came to being older,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and how even what you just said in the intro,
- 10:45Speaker 1: like people don't even want to talk about it, People
- 10:47Speaker 1: don't even want to be involved in and people don't
- 10:49Speaker 1: want to say nothing about it. And that's not fair.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It's not fair, and it's not a good message. And
- 10:55Speaker 1: for me, I was like, I feel good. I still
- 10:59Speaker 1: work out, I do my best to be healthy and
- 11:02Speaker 1: this is why I look how I look. I said
- 11:05Speaker 1: to myself, I know what, yeah, I know what age
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm getting ready to be, and I'm gonna work out
- 11:12Speaker 1: even harder, I'm gonna even healthier, and I'm going to
- 11:15Speaker 1: just for myself be the best that I could try
- 11:17Speaker 1: to be once that fifty comes my way. And so
- 11:22Speaker 1: I decided to take a photo shoot for me. I
- 11:24Speaker 1: just wanna posted on Instagram for me because I wanted
- 11:26Speaker 1: to to show for me and my father, making like, look,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know, it's okay, this is what I look like.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You know, you know, let's just for me to just
- 11:34Speaker 1: feel good. And at the end of the day, the
- 11:38Speaker 1: photographer takes that picture because he was just testing his lights.
- 11:41Speaker 1: He was like, let's take a picture on your phone.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I just want to test the lights before we get
- 11:45Speaker 1: to the shoot location. We're not even on the shoot location.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And I posted it and the rest became what you
- 11:51Speaker 1: already know. I just feel like it's important to bring
- 11:55Speaker 1: that to the forefront, Like everybody in America has a
- 12:00Speaker 1: lot of stigma about women first of all, and getting
- 12:03Speaker 1: older and them not maybe being able to do or
- 12:07Speaker 1: be x y and Z, and we need to stop
- 12:09Speaker 1: that and especially as an African American woman, I thought
- 12:13Speaker 1: it was important to show that you can be healthy,
- 12:15Speaker 1: that it's okay to to feel good about yourself as
- 12:18Speaker 1: you get older and be your best self, even in
- 12:21Speaker 1: a way that you maybe weren't at forty five, and
- 12:24Speaker 1: maybe that you want at forty or even thirty five,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and you can just be healthier and take care of yourself,
- 12:29Speaker 1: eat better, be a long in this journey of life longer.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And I was okay with being a representation of that. Well,
- 12:38Speaker 1: thank you for saying that. I have six sisters. They
- 12:41Speaker 1: are they appreciate you're saying all those things. Now you
- 12:46Speaker 1: went out there and you're prepared for fifties. Seems like
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know, which is cool because because I would test
- 12:51Speaker 1: to tell you about Roushan. You know, I eat. I
- 12:53Speaker 1: eat like a crazy person. You know. People look at me,
- 12:56Speaker 1: they go, how do you look that way? And you
- 12:59Speaker 1: eat like, um, you five hundred pounds. Okay, Now I
- 13:04Speaker 1: see the word nutrition in your Now do you eat
- 13:07Speaker 1: a certain way or you're a healthy eater? Miss Neil Well,
- 13:11Speaker 1: first of all, I am, but I'm also from Memphis, Tennessee.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Thank you. I love barbecue. I love frits things. Sometimes
- 13:21Speaker 1: the emphasis is on sometimes I do a lot of
- 13:26Speaker 1: but um, I say, portion control is key. Um, I
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't have to have fifteen French fries. I can I
- 13:34Speaker 1: can be okay with five five and then I'm going
- 13:37Speaker 1: to burn it off. I'm going to burn it off.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And that's also the other key. You have to burn
- 13:42Speaker 1: it off. You can't sit there and have barbecue all
- 13:45Speaker 1: weekend and pork jobs, which I don't think people really eat.
- 13:49Speaker 1: When we gonna we're gonna go past new we gonna
- 13:56Speaker 1: go past that. I never had that conversation about that.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Baby bake ribs of them. But what you can do
- 14:05Speaker 1: is portion control it out. Maybe have two pieces of
- 14:11Speaker 1: barbecue and then walk for fifteen minutes at a quick pace.
- 14:16Speaker 1: You know, turn it back off. You know. The interesting
- 14:19Speaker 1: thing that you're saying is absolutely true to portion control.
- 14:22Speaker 1: The talk about talk about this the boot camp is
- 14:28Speaker 1: a video? Is it's uh something that you tell us
- 14:32Speaker 1: about the boot camp? Well, and and again going back
- 14:35Speaker 1: to the whole internet, and then I got uh breaking
- 14:39Speaker 1: the internet, and then she did every day it becomes
- 14:44Speaker 1: every black publication and you eat it. What are you drinking?
- 14:49Speaker 1: What you're doing? I need to know. I need to
- 14:51Speaker 1: you know. It has become that kind of conversation and
- 14:54Speaker 1: I am and we're just saying here on your radio show, Hey,
- 14:56Speaker 1: anybody want to hit my people up and invest so
- 15:00Speaker 1: we can do even more in this business thing. I'm
- 15:03Speaker 1: down for the conversation. It is money making. Hey, it
- 15:07Speaker 1: is the money make it dolf Uh yeah, um, but
- 15:11Speaker 1: you know, I thought the best way. And this is
- 15:15Speaker 1: why too. I did the at Least Body. I created
- 15:17Speaker 1: at Least Body boot Camp because I wanted it to
- 15:20Speaker 1: be a place that if when I had time, I
- 15:22Speaker 1: will do these classes, that I will be the instructor
- 15:26Speaker 1: so that there is no conversation. Because I was getting
- 15:30Speaker 1: that at first about she just went to the doctors,
- 15:33Speaker 1: she ain't working out. I got a lot of that
- 15:35Speaker 1: at first at first. Um, so okay, now you're gonna
- 15:39Speaker 1: work out with me, and you got your legs gonna
- 15:41Speaker 1: hurt a little bit, and then you're gonna stop that
- 15:42Speaker 1: conversation because you're gonna be doing it with me and
- 15:45Speaker 1: you're gonna see that this is what I'm doing. And
- 15:48Speaker 1: so it's and once I started creating that, it became
- 15:51Speaker 1: a thing more where they understood that it is a
- 15:54Speaker 1: lifestyle for me, and so I love to do at
- 15:57Speaker 1: least body boot camps. They pop up every now and
- 15:59Speaker 1: then where I have time, I'm in a different city,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and it's a class that I create based off of
- 16:04Speaker 1: what I do in the gym as a person who's
- 16:06Speaker 1: a dancer who loves hip hop music. It's all set
- 16:09Speaker 1: to hip hop music. We do all types of um
- 16:13Speaker 1: core work, we do all types of legwork, we do
- 16:16Speaker 1: all types of crunches, we do all types of things,
- 16:18Speaker 1: but it's all to hip hop music. Then there's a
- 16:20Speaker 1: cardio blast because that's what I like to do because
- 16:23Speaker 1: my background is dance, and I make it as fun
- 16:26Speaker 1: and it's hip and crazy as possible. Wow, yeah, are
- 16:33Speaker 1: you tired? But but that's that's that's I'd say that
- 16:37Speaker 1: humorously because first of all, I want to know how
- 16:40Speaker 1: I can help you promote what you're doing these classes
- 16:43Speaker 1: because of the fact that that's why I created money
- 16:45Speaker 1: making conversations for this. Entrepreneurship is entertainment driven because there's
- 16:49Speaker 1: so many ideas. So you have a life outside of
- 16:52Speaker 1: film and television, and that's what this show is all about.
- 16:55Speaker 1: So how can I when you do you have any
- 16:57Speaker 1: upcoming UM boot camps coming up up or scheduled, so
- 17:01Speaker 1: I can help you promote them with my social media
- 17:04Speaker 1: as well or my fan club. What can I do?
- 17:06Speaker 1: I really appreciate that. Well, what we what we could
- 17:09Speaker 1: do is after we hang up, create another one, and
- 17:15Speaker 1: that's what we do. Okay coolin serious, We'll create one
- 17:19Speaker 1: and we'll team up and I'll do one in Atlanta.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I think they would appreciate that. It's Neil, okay cool.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You know, it's it's almost November, so we you know,
- 17:27Speaker 1: let's do if you mind, like in January. Is that cool?
- 17:30Speaker 1: Because that's what that's when everybody have their you know,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna lose weight. I'm gonna lose weight. I'm gonna
- 17:35Speaker 1: lose weight. This is when you get the conversation side.
- 17:38Speaker 1: So well, we can do that, and we'll do one
- 17:40Speaker 1: in Atlanta, and we'll do it that way. I think
- 17:42Speaker 1: they would love it, and I'll do one, you know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and again I do want to either do the app
- 17:47Speaker 1: or or you know, I people like to say this.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I just had this conversation. I was just in Memphis, Tennessee,
- 17:52Speaker 1: speaking to the teachers and organizations of Memphis City schools
- 17:57Speaker 1: and public schools, the Shelby County School System. Should I
- 17:59Speaker 1: say nowt about further in education and feeling their dreams.
- 18:04Speaker 1: But to say all of that to say that we
- 18:06Speaker 1: were just talking about DVDs and stuff, and I'm like, well,
- 18:10Speaker 1: DVDs aren't dead because I'm gonna late not see DVD
- 18:14Speaker 1: selling And I see you know, all of those sitness
- 18:17Speaker 1: DVD selling and things like that. So I'm still not
- 18:19Speaker 1: necessarily opposed to even that component as well. But I
- 18:24Speaker 1: like being there with them when I can and showing
- 18:27Speaker 1: them personally how it's possible. And sometimes I team up
