- 2:15Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and industry decision maker. My next guest is one
- 2:19Speaker 1: of my favorites man. He was on the show about
- 2:21Speaker 1: a year and a half ago, Molly Music. He's a
- 2:23Speaker 1: gospel artists first and foremost, but who will not be
- 2:26Speaker 1: put in a box. He loves the freedom of creating
- 2:29Speaker 1: amazing music, no matter what the genre is, gospel, R
- 2:32Speaker 1: and B, hip hop or rock. Whatever he feels, that's
- 2:35Speaker 1: his move. Molly Water grammed this year for the song
- 2:38Speaker 1: moving on his hit collaboration with Jonathan McReynolds. He's nominated
- 2:42Speaker 1: for three Stellar Awards this year. He's got back on
- 2:45Speaker 1: the road because COVID shut everybody down in twenty but
- 2:48Speaker 1: he's getting back out there. Gotta make that check, gotta
- 2:50Speaker 1: make that check. The things that started to open up
- 2:53Speaker 1: across the US, and we'll be announcing new music and
- 2:55Speaker 1: new tour dates coming soon and I'll be the first
- 2:58Speaker 1: to put him out there. For my man, Please work
- 3:00Speaker 1: with the money making conversations again, Molla music, How you doing,
- 3:03Speaker 1: Molly Wow McDonald, how's it going? What an honor beautiful
- 3:08Speaker 1: introduction to be back again a world, let's get it well.
- 3:11Speaker 1: The think about you that you know when we talk, man,
- 3:14Speaker 1: it was almost because I have a I come from
- 3:16Speaker 1: a big family, Molly, you know, from Houston, Texas. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: have a six sisters, two brothers, and I felt I
- 3:21Speaker 1: was talking to my younger brother here. Man, you know
- 3:23Speaker 1: because because you know you, you know you, you got
- 3:25Speaker 1: that energy man, you you you you still have unconquered
- 3:28Speaker 1: territories that you want to, like I want to, want
- 3:31Speaker 1: to want to make a difference in. But the more
- 3:33Speaker 1: effortant thing is we always can get boxed in, especially
- 3:38Speaker 1: we do R and B. People think all you should
- 3:39Speaker 1: be doing R and B. You do country? What you
- 3:41Speaker 1: what black? What you're doing over in country? You should
- 3:44Speaker 1: be over there. And so we've seen so many walls
- 3:46Speaker 1: coming down in our era and this timeline. Are you
- 3:49Speaker 1: feeling that's comfortable for what you're trying to do as well?
- 3:54Speaker 1: I do feel that it's effective, but comfortable is not
- 3:59Speaker 1: the words. Um. It's good for what we want business
- 4:03Speaker 1: to do. It's good for the spreading of our wings.
- 4:05Speaker 1: But it's kind of like a racial conversation. You open
- 4:09Speaker 1: up the doors to be heard out by a different race,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and then it gets uncomfortable for just because you start
- 4:14Speaker 1: bringing out different issues. I recently traveled to Nashville to
- 4:18Speaker 1: do some songwriting with Chad lead Saying of the rock
- 4:22Speaker 1: band Christian rock band Unspoken, and it was a challenge
- 4:25Speaker 1: for me, especially coming from soul background, gospel background. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: I had to remember I have songs out like Gimme,
- 4:32Speaker 1: Gimme Ready, aim impulses, songs that have rock feels for it.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So man, the spreading and the falling of the genres,
- 4:40Speaker 1: it's definitely good. I've been watching it happen in hip
- 4:43Speaker 1: hop and other genres for a long time, and I'm
- 4:45Speaker 1: glad that it's finally made it to the gospel. Well,
- 4:48Speaker 1: you're interesting, But it's about a beat, isn't it, Because
- 4:50Speaker 1: when you're talking about you know, because it is like
- 4:52Speaker 1: a one three or two four beat when you're talking
- 4:54Speaker 1: about music, when you're talking about R and B beats
- 4:56Speaker 1: and you're talking about we're talking about rock beats, especially
- 4:59Speaker 1: because they can a lot longer. How does that you know?
- 5:03Speaker 1: Because we all know that gospel is driven by emotion
- 5:06Speaker 1: and and so and so you're emotionally driven guy, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: then you're going to rock a lot of times it's
- 5:11Speaker 1: just driven by sound. So how do you blend the
- 5:15Speaker 1: two to get the results that you want? Excellent question. Well,
- 5:19Speaker 1: they bring me in. Normally, as a lyricist, I write
- 5:23Speaker 1: lyrics like you know mean comes only to still killing
- 5:27Speaker 1: and destroyed come in with things like that, I said,
- 5:30Speaker 1: a Christian rock band. One thing about the genre gospel
- 5:34Speaker 1: is it is sound. It doesn't necessarily have a sound anymore.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Of course, you have the Mahellia Jackson. You know, it
- 5:42Speaker 1: comes up. You know, you have the no not you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: house of Prayer, and that's your house of prayer. You
- 5:49Speaker 1: get what I'm saying. Town, You have Baptist music, um
- 5:54Speaker 1: worship music like hill song and stuff like that. If
- 5:57Speaker 1: you notice, the music could be anything. Gospel and Christian
- 6:01Speaker 1: has now solely based in genre around the content as
- 6:04Speaker 1: long as at some point you say that Jesus Christ's Lord,
- 6:07Speaker 1: it could sound like any type of beat. You get
- 6:10Speaker 1: what I mean. So our genre is mostly about the
- 6:13Speaker 1: edification of God. Absolutely, But it is because we just
- 6:18Speaker 1: talk amusing that molly, okay, you know, because of the
- 6:21Speaker 1: fact that when you look at R and B, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 1: like you started naming different artists that they lie themselves
- 6:27Speaker 1: in that whole genre. Because because when you got the
- 6:29Speaker 1: hip hop and rap, it just like tore it self
- 6:31Speaker 1: away from RV it towards you just this is not
- 6:34Speaker 1: even RB. They don't even sing it, okay, clearly not
- 6:37Speaker 1: saying it. And then when you get into R and B.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Y had soul, you know, you had had the deal.
- 6:43Speaker 1: So yeah, all those different genres. So when when you
- 6:46Speaker 1: start talking about gospel, I started realizing, Man, there are
- 6:49Speaker 1: many many layers. When you talk about Man Jackson, you
- 6:52Speaker 1: talk about Kirk Franklin, you talk about yours. You know,
- 6:57Speaker 1: Donnie McClerkin, you John Kid wired right, how did that?
- 7:01Speaker 1: And that's from a creative standpoint, that's a challenge. Huh, yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 1: it could be. But what I noticed while coming up
- 7:10Speaker 1: in church is a lot of the creativity came out
- 7:12Speaker 1: of one person um creatively. Like you might have had
- 7:17Speaker 1: six people in Ricky dill its quiet, but they were
- 7:19Speaker 1: all a lot doing riggy and everything that would coming
- 7:22Speaker 1: out of their mouth. And the band was something that
- 7:24Speaker 1: he probably heard at a coffee table that a few
- 7:26Speaker 1: mornings before and taught them, say with Hezekiah. So being
- 7:29Speaker 1: a praise and worship leader, first I know that you
- 7:32Speaker 1: can spend time with God in the car, tell some
- 7:35Speaker 1: vocalists how to part go, tell the band and so
- 7:37Speaker 1: you know, and you're in a hospital of praise. So
- 7:39Speaker 1: a lot of the big ideas can come out of
- 7:41Speaker 1: one person. Beethoven had a whole orchestra, but it was
- 7:46Speaker 1: his music every line. So I think it's just u
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, just based on who the idea is coming
- 7:51Speaker 1: out of, and it could be one person, even though
- 7:53Speaker 1: many people of health. You know, when I want to
- 7:56Speaker 1: look at you, Molly, I always say I have to
- 7:57Speaker 1: bring this question to everybody who comes to the show.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Just start for you, because I look at myself and
- 8:03Speaker 1: I try to pinpoint. I always tell people I've been
- 8:05Speaker 1: doing this since I was eighteen years old when I
- 8:07Speaker 1: really looked at my life. You know, I've been I've
- 8:10Speaker 1: been uplifting, I've been creative. I've been a person who
- 8:13Speaker 1: who thought differently, just saw I saw a different path
- 8:16Speaker 1: to success. I came from a black neighborhood, but I
- 8:18Speaker 1: didn't want to die in a black neighborhood. I thought
- 8:20Speaker 1: there was more to the world out there, and eighteen
- 8:22Speaker 1: years old, I was committed to seeing more of that world.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So that so I locked that day. That's important when
- 8:28Speaker 1: it really started for me. And then I went to
- 8:30Speaker 1: college and college changed my life. What did start for you?
- 8:33Speaker 1: Mallo music well out bagged my father for pro Tools,
- 8:41Speaker 1: which is a sound or wave recording software that is
- 8:47Speaker 1: about maybe five hundred or six hundred dollars. It requires
- 8:50Speaker 1: us computer monitor, miles sound speakers. I was asking my
- 8:56Speaker 1: dad for this at thirteen years old. I was laughing
- 8:59Speaker 1: because you said five. My dad was saying, oh, this
- 9:08Speaker 1: is not a money making conversations. I said, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I understood. I asked him around thirteen, after going to
- 9:16Speaker 1: a studio with a friend. And that's how I learned
- 9:19Speaker 1: that's how people get their voice to come out of
- 9:22Speaker 1: the radio. As a young boy, I'm always hearing moms saying,
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'm always hearing my sisters saying, but I'm like, how
- 9:27Speaker 1: do we come out of the radio like Luther Van Drawls,
- 9:30Speaker 1: you know. And I didn't know if it was some
- 9:32Speaker 1: type of process and it was proteols and like you know,
- 9:35Speaker 1: electronic and software based computers was what it was. After
- 9:39Speaker 1: the tape started going, before you laid it on wax.
- 9:41Speaker 1: But now you could do it digitally. I asked my
- 9:43Speaker 1: after that thirteen, No four, No, fifteen, No, Dad's sprint Lee.
- 9:51Speaker 1: He got it for me around sixteen. I was mastering
- 9:54Speaker 1: it around seventeen and utilizing it for church stuff like
- 9:58Speaker 1: putting thunder behind my path, that's just preaching. If he
- 10:01Speaker 1: spoke about a value or war, trying to find ways
- 10:04Speaker 1: to use the technological sound advancement that I was blessed
- 10:08Speaker 1: with by my dad at sixteen to do what my
- 10:11Speaker 1: mom was making me doing. So now you got this
- 10:13Speaker 1: pro too, But don't talk about no women, don't talk
- 10:15Speaker 1: about no bottles, and you're gonna be talking about God.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I don't want no curse words. And make sure that
- 10:20Speaker 1: you creatively, creatively, don't do that same note stuff I said, Okay, man,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I could do that. So I think that that's what
- 10:27Speaker 1: set my values early. So even though I had a
- 10:30Speaker 1: huge future and I probably wouldn't been doing all types
- 10:32Speaker 1: of music, my values were set based on me getting
- 10:35Speaker 1: music for church, God being put into my heart in
- 10:39Speaker 1: my gift, and me promising the people who gave it
- 10:41Speaker 1: to me that I wouldn't straight from that path. As
- 10:43Speaker 1: I grew older, that got more and more difficult because
- 10:46Speaker 1: I want to be more rebellious. I want to start
- 10:48Speaker 1: echoing sounds that I hear. But holding on to those
- 10:50Speaker 1: values kept it unique and especially annointing on it. It's
- 10:55Speaker 1: finally here the season of celebration, and no matter how
- 10:59Speaker 1: you celebrate with Emily and friends, whether you're preparing for

- 12:25Speaker 1: a storybook world for them. You look and see a tree,
- 12:28Speaker 1: They see the wrinkled face of a wizard with arms
- 12:31Speaker 1: outstretched to the sky. They see treasure and pebbles. They
- 12:35Speaker 1: see a windy path that could lead to adventure, and
- 12:38Speaker 1: they see you. They're fearless guide. Is this fascinating world?
- 12:43Speaker 1: Find a forest near you and start exploring. I Discover
- 12:46Speaker 1: the Forest dot org brought to you by the United
- 12:48Speaker 1: States Forest Service and the AD Council. Conversation because of
- 12:52Speaker 1: the fact they've talked about you earned it, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 1: because they knew you were talented. But did they know
- 12:59Speaker 1: did you understand the value of this five dollars or
- 13:02Speaker 1: six hundred dollar device? Because people if you if you
- 13:06Speaker 1: give somebody a car and let them loan and then
- 13:08Speaker 1: guess what there they if they reckon, they go I'm sorry.
- 13:11Speaker 1: But if they were tied to the damage of direct
- 13:14Speaker 1: then they have a different conversation when they come talk
- 13:16Speaker 1: to you. And so now at that early age, were
- 13:20Speaker 1: their friends who started, i know, tied to the church
- 13:23Speaker 1: and you started seeing people reacting to your beach, react
- 13:26Speaker 1: to your music because you're in gospel, man. Because you know,
- 13:29Speaker 1: the thing about it is, if you're a rap, if
- 13:31Speaker 1: you're an R and B, you know, yes, you could.
- 13:34Speaker 1: You know if R and B you singing for the ladies,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. If you're wrapped in the
- 13:38Speaker 1: streets just just doing arrived for your crew, who were
- 13:41Speaker 1: you doing it for. My pastor gave me the opportunity
- 13:45Speaker 1: to be minister of music and start playing at his
- 13:48Speaker 1: church when I was eleven. Now, I said, I asked
- 13:51Speaker 1: my dad for protos that thirteen. So I've already been
- 13:53Speaker 1: singing as a minister of music and playing learning chords
- 13:56Speaker 1: in the church for three years already on Yamaha e
- 14:00Speaker 1: x seven. Now that's as old the keyboard as you
- 14:02Speaker 1: could get, and I'm blowing contridges out trying to change
- 14:07Speaker 1: in the middle of that. It's not what I need.
- 14:10Speaker 1: So I was a young musician coming in at the
- 14:13Speaker 1: ship of a technological era, like synthesizers were growing into
- 14:17Speaker 1: bigger stuff. When the churches just before I started playing
- 14:20Speaker 1: in church, which was very early, were mostly organ all right,
- 14:24Speaker 1: So we didn't have an organ in that church. So
- 14:26Speaker 1: the keyboard wasn't enough, so I wanted strings. I wanted
- 14:28Speaker 1: all these different types of things. So that's what kind
- 14:30Speaker 1: of set the tone. It was to please my pastor.
- 14:33Speaker 1: It was to be able to show that I was
- 14:34Speaker 1: ready for the leadership position that he gave me. Even
- 14:37Speaker 1: though I was so young. I anticipated for people to
- 14:39Speaker 1: say I was unauthorized and should not be associated with
- 14:42Speaker 1: such a position enlighten and stuff music. So I gave
- 14:44Speaker 1: my all to it. I gave my commitment, and it
- 14:47Speaker 1: kind of gave me responsibility. Before I wanted friends. So
- 14:50Speaker 1: now even though I had friends and companions, I was
- 14:55Speaker 1: if I wasn't doing chorus, I was trying to make
- 14:57Speaker 1: sure I got back to learn my pro tools because
- 15:00Speaker 1: my dad wasn't from the bound me software that I
- 15:02Speaker 1: didn't know how to use. So now I have to
- 15:05Speaker 1: read user books, manuals, and I became pretty obsessive and
- 15:08Speaker 1: a bit of a nerd over the technological part. Once
- 15:12Speaker 1: I started bringing CDs to school, it was over I'm
- 15:14Speaker 1: singing for the dances, I'm I'm doing the National Anthem
- 15:18Speaker 1: prerecorded over the I just was finding ways to use
- 15:21Speaker 1: the pro tools, and it became really awesome, but it
- 15:24Speaker 1: didn't hit until the world heard it on my space
- 15:27Speaker 1: and that's where social media comes in. That so my
- 15:29Speaker 1: music was right on the curve of a shift, and
- 15:32Speaker 1: once everybody heard it online because black Planet just died,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I was in my Space artist by the time they
- 15:38Speaker 1: found Molly Music. I had my song I Hate You
- 15:40Speaker 1: No music all I have to give and I think
- 15:44Speaker 1: forward on my my Space page and the rest its history,
- 15:47Speaker 1: well history is still giving you uh love. You know,
- 15:52Speaker 1: grammed with yournos who have had on the show. You know,
- 15:56Speaker 1: working with artists like that because he's really creative, he's
- 16:00Speaker 1: and ye talk about collaborations because that's a key because
- 16:06Speaker 1: you know, I've listened to writers and especial producers because
- 16:10Speaker 1: they brought in for a talent, but they also have
- 16:12Speaker 1: to be be true enough to understand who they're worked
- 16:15Speaker 1: it with, but also strong enough to be able to
- 16:17Speaker 1: get the finished product to the end end his own.
- 16:20Speaker 1: So talking about when you when collaborations, the one you
- 16:23Speaker 1: did with Jonathan mcrillo, which want to grab me by
- 16:25Speaker 1: the way, moving on, thank you so much. It was
- 16:28Speaker 1: such a gift to be able to hold that coming
- 16:30Speaker 1: out of the box and it represented what collaboration represents
- 16:33Speaker 1: for me. Sacrifice. Everybody wants it to be them alone.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Everybody wants to win a race because of how good
- 16:42Speaker 1: they are. But so many things were going on, and
- 16:45Speaker 1: I just really wanted to help so many people. I
- 16:48Speaker 1: noticed once I got finished acting inside of the like
- 16:52Speaker 1: movie industry, that the most important investment was like the
- 16:59Speaker 1: last two million dollars that a movie needs, and people
- 17:02Speaker 1: can come on as a final investor because a movie
- 17:06Speaker 1: ran short on a ten million dollar budget or something,
- 17:08Speaker 1: that they give the final two and then it is
- 17:10Speaker 1: the breaking point of it. That's what I started doing
- 17:13Speaker 1: with my music. Jonathan had a whole album, The People
- 17:16Speaker 1: Album was Killing. He had a whole campaign. But collaboration
- 17:19Speaker 1: was just so we could bring our jet packs together
- 17:21Speaker 1: to get over the edge. Of course we could do
- 17:24Speaker 1: something effective in gospel, but can we put a dent
- 17:27Speaker 1: in the world, And that was something we weren't planning
- 17:30Speaker 1: to do. But the collaboration goes in depth. It was
- 17:33Speaker 1: agreement from me and Jonathan and Spirit, but then it
- 17:35Speaker 1: also was our teams. I'm with r C A I
- 17:39Speaker 1: and he is with E one, and those companies also
- 17:42Speaker 1: collaborated for us to have the success that we had
- 17:44Speaker 1: based on, you know, working the record, calling people. It
- 17:48Speaker 1: was two labels collaborating. So I'm very proud of what
- 17:50Speaker 1: gospel music did because we obtained this reward or this
- 17:54Speaker 1: award by working together. There's a lot of people who
- 17:56Speaker 1: just simply don't do that in gospel. If dog people
- 17:59Speaker 1: made dog food, it wouldn't be sold in a fifty
- 18:02Speaker 1: pound bag in the hardware aisle by the shoe polish.
- 18:04Speaker 1: It would actually be food. It would be made with
- 18:07Speaker 1: real fresh meat and veggies, gently cooked to preserve a
- 18:10Speaker 1: nutritional value, you know, like food. The Farmer's Dog was
- 18:13Speaker 1: created by dog people who cook and deliver fresh, healthy food.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Try the Farmer's Dog and get fresh, preportioned meals tailored
- 18:19Speaker 1: to your dog's means. Tell us about your dogs, build

- 18:28Speaker 1: Hi everyone, i'l roker here as a guy with his
- 18:30Speaker 1: own catchphrase. I appreciate that Smokey's only said only you
- 18:34Speaker 1: can prevent wildfires, but I'm filling it because there's a
- 18:38Speaker 1: lot more to report, like when they're parched or windy
- 18:41Speaker 1: conditions out there. You gotta be extra careful with things
- 18:44Speaker 1: like burning yard wigs. After all, wildfires can start anywhere,
- 18:48Speaker 1: even in your neck of the woods. Go to Smokey
- 18:51Speaker 1: Bear dot com to learn more about wildfire prevention. Brought
- 18:54Speaker 1: to you by the U. S. Forest Service, your state Forrester,
- 18:57Speaker 1: and the AD Council. If I could be you and
- 19:00Speaker 1: you could be me for just one hour, if you
- 19:02Speaker 1: could find a way to get inside each other's mind,
- 19:06Speaker 1: walk a mile in my shoes, Welcome mile in my shoes. Shoes.
- 19:12Speaker 1: We've all felt left out, and for some that feeling
- 19:15Speaker 1: lasts more than a moment. We can change that. Learn
- 19:19Speaker 1: how it belonging begins with us dot org. Brought to
- 19:21Speaker 1: you by the ACT Council. Welcome out and shoes. Well,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know you're there at r C. I with my
- 19:30Speaker 1: board Phil Thornton, who I call him. Hey, don't get
- 19:34Speaker 1: me started on the field. That guy is awesome and
- 19:40Speaker 1: he's been grinding from the beginning. So I was so
- 19:43Speaker 1: excited to see that his promotion finally came. So it's
- 19:46Speaker 1: like Steve mash, Oh, you have a team now that
- 19:49Speaker 1: you're coaching. Can I play with y'all? I wasn't necessarily
- 19:51Speaker 1: interested in functioning with the system this way. But if
- 19:55Speaker 1: you're over it, I know God has involved, prayers involved,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and I could have success and it worked out happy.
- 20:01Speaker 1: You know that the beauty of you that there's a
- 20:04Speaker 1: certain genuine lovel of conversation because you know this is
- 20:09Speaker 1: this is not insulting. You know a lot of people
- 20:12Speaker 1: they won't in they you know their gospel, they just coming.
- 20:15Speaker 1: They're real church. You're you're praise the Lord. It's a
- 20:19Speaker 1: blessing to be Oh my god, I got that. I
- 20:23Speaker 1: got that. But I really think I really think, Molly,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I can eat some bob que with you. You know
- 20:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I really think I could play some
- 20:30Speaker 1: basketball with you know what. I'm a little bit you
- 20:34Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I really do believe that, man,
- 20:37Speaker 1: because that is that's part of your upbringing. You know,
- 20:39Speaker 1: the spiked the fact and eleven years old you was
- 20:43Speaker 1: given a leadership role, which is a mature thing and
- 20:46Speaker 1: also can be something that can like pigeon hole a
- 20:49Speaker 1: person's personality. But how did you really maintain your personality? Man?
- 20:54Speaker 1: With all that pressure? But loving you old talking to
- 20:57Speaker 1: adults considered a gifted individual because you just don't slide
- 21:01Speaker 1: over there, but do your parents over They're going, really, boy,
- 21:04Speaker 1: take that trash out there. Boy boy, if you don't
- 21:07Speaker 1: clean up your room, because that was happening at the house,
- 21:10Speaker 1: So that kept you straight correct, yes, And then coming
- 21:14Speaker 1: up in Savannah, Georgia, it was happening outside the house.
- 21:17Speaker 1: You can get whooped by anybody in Georgia. You get whatever.
- 21:20Speaker 1: So it was a blessing because I'll see, I'm thirteen
- 21:24Speaker 1: years old and the power God falls at a at
- 21:27Speaker 1: a meeting um and then I get spoken to by
- 21:31Speaker 1: one of the elder women, one of the grandma, and
- 21:34Speaker 1: this is all she's gonna say. She will never get
- 21:36Speaker 1: around the saying good job. She says, don't forget where
- 21:41Speaker 1: you come from now. And that's not mean that she
- 21:44Speaker 1: seen me go and play. You forgot to tell me that,
- 21:47Speaker 1: but she let me know no matter what that I
- 21:49Speaker 1: needed to be humble. And I remember those people or
- 21:51Speaker 1: they'll say, all right, keep doing what you're doing. Don't
- 21:53Speaker 1: change nothing. They're gonna ask you to do this, dude,
- 21:55Speaker 1: that don't change nothing. I'm like, yes, ma'am, you know
- 21:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna stay. That happened I just remember those people
- 22:02Speaker 1: who say, remember the little people when you get there.
- 22:04Speaker 1: And it's cool because it's a bit back and forth
- 22:07Speaker 1: because you have some elite people who want to feel
- 22:10Speaker 1: that they're around other pompous people. Um, but that's just
- 22:14Speaker 1: not the way that I'm bringing it. God brings all success,
- 22:17Speaker 1: and we're lucky to get whatever we get in the
- 22:18Speaker 1: first place. And it's all about loving people. So that's
- 22:22Speaker 1: the greatest wealth. Any money that I ever got came
- 22:24Speaker 1: from somebody. Absolutely get what I mean. Absolutely, Hey, Molly,
- 22:27Speaker 1: I'm talking to Molly Music, my man three Grammy Grammy
- 22:31Speaker 1: win this year with his collaboration moving on with Jonathan
- 22:34Speaker 1: mc reynolds, and then some interview and feel Thornton and
- 22:36Speaker 1: then I just run through this list though all the
- 22:40Speaker 1: artists from the label r C A I, which is
- 22:43Speaker 1: based out of Nashville. And I saw Molly Music three nominations.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I said, I got to get it. It was just
- 22:50Speaker 1: we can have ago. I said that it was crazy.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I've been It's it's awesome, I said. I said, I
- 22:56Speaker 1: got to get him on the show and talk about
- 22:58Speaker 1: this because you know what I said, because when you
- 23:00Speaker 1: said the Stellar Awards, I see you because because we're
- 23:02Speaker 1: gonna talk about this year, but I want to go
- 23:04Speaker 1: back in because that's when you're gonna really tell me
- 23:07Speaker 1: the story of how this happened for you had to
- 23:11Speaker 1: work through the obstacles of last year. They get where
- 23:14Speaker 1: we got absolutely, and so those three nominations, how does
- 23:18Speaker 1: that make you feel? You know, uh, just talk about
- 23:21Speaker 1: the steps and of that process. Like you said, the
- 23:24Speaker 1: team get them because we don't do this by ourselves,
- 23:28Speaker 1: and sometimes out there we feel like we buy ourselves.
- 23:31Speaker 1: But you at three nominations Stellar Awards, talk about that determination, perseverance,
- 23:38Speaker 1: and faith. I can't necessarily say like in releasing it,
- 23:43Speaker 1: like oh man, this is locked up. It wasn't like
- 23:46Speaker 1: that for me because there was so many business things
- 23:49Speaker 1: that started to happen. This was my first project as
- 23:52Speaker 1: an owner of K approved E n T, which is,
- 23:56Speaker 1: you know, my company. That's where I'm going to be
- 23:58Speaker 1: releasing other artists so they don't have to endure the
- 24:00Speaker 1: things that I had to endure it to get where
- 24:01Speaker 1: I am. So my attempt from being independent and not
- 24:06Speaker 1: being signed anymore than now in this licensing situation with
- 24:09Speaker 1: philth Thor and Ron Hill over r C A, I
- 24:12Speaker 1: I wanted to create a label to when I saw
- 24:14Speaker 1: the next Molley's and when I saw the next time,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and I could protected it, you know, harvested it and
- 24:19Speaker 1: push it out. So the Book of Molly was my
- 24:21Speaker 1: first project from that licensing thing, and it was difficult
- 24:26Speaker 1: financially paying producers, uh publishing, of getting clearances on any samples,
- 24:34Speaker 1: getting all musicians taken care of. It was cool because
- 24:38Speaker 1: it's it's a blessing on a small level. But if
- 24:41Speaker 1: you play piano on a John Legend song, how much
- 24:43Speaker 1: money are you gonna ask for? At the end, You're
- 24:46Speaker 1: not gonna say no, it's okay, just give me a
- 24:48Speaker 1: hundred dollars. You're gonna be trying to find out how
- 24:50Speaker 1: to get enough money for the rest of your life
- 24:53Speaker 1: because you played piano on a John Legends. That was
- 24:59Speaker 1: one of the things that had me a bit discouraged,
- 25:03Speaker 1: you know, and it's always that way because of the
- 25:05Speaker 1: fact that I would love just to be a talent,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but because then you're sitting over there just answering to
- 25:11Speaker 1: somebody to be able to make that commitment paying taxes,
- 25:15Speaker 1: you know, paying for paying value. And you can understand
- 25:18Speaker 1: that how this really works, how a Tyler Perer in
- 25:22Speaker 1: the work. I can assure you ty Perwer knows everybody paying. Okay,
- 25:25Speaker 1: how will Packer, how all these steve harder, all these
- 25:28Speaker 1: people are able to do, Reneme, Oprah Winfrey, You're just
- 25:32Speaker 1: doing what they're doing. And believe me, they know who
- 25:34Speaker 1: they pay and they also know the pain infrastruction of
- 25:38Speaker 1: being an entrepreneur. So you went from a talent to
- 25:41Speaker 1: an entrepreneur, and that's important because that allows you to
- 25:45Speaker 1: collaborate and know what money you would do properly or
- 25:48Speaker 1: what makes you so much for noting that that's so
- 25:51Speaker 1: awesome for you to see and and catch because I
- 25:55Speaker 1: can only hope that that is what happens, because a
- 25:58Speaker 1: lot of people still see me as a talent. But
- 26:00Speaker 1: you can only go so far there without the proper team.
- 26:03Speaker 1: And this is a huge step for me. So you're
- 26:06Speaker 1: right online and you can't really make too many changes
- 26:09Speaker 1: for people, yourself or the world from this the artist's position.
- 26:13Speaker 1: So it's good to like be in a position that
- 26:15Speaker 1: you can make some things happen, not for yourself but
- 26:17Speaker 1: you know the thing about That's why that's why I
- 26:19Speaker 1: created this show so I can talk to individuals like you, Mala,
- 26:22Speaker 1: because because because as a talent or an individual who
- 26:25Speaker 1: buys tickets, or you can get caught up in the
- 26:28Speaker 1: show business other show and it can make you believe
- 26:32Speaker 1: that you can't do that, or they tell you can't
- 26:35Speaker 1: do that because it's so complicated. And so I could
- 26:38Speaker 1: assure you when you was making this transition, it was
- 26:41Speaker 1: a lot of as they say, trepidation, fear, study, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 1: go uh am, I gonna make a mistake. I don't
- 26:47Speaker 1: want to mess up. And then when you did it,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I remember I did a big my first neighborhood awards
- 26:52Speaker 1: back in Los Angeles by two thousand three. When I
- 26:56Speaker 1: finished it, I realized, I said, I started crying because
- 26:59Speaker 1: of the fact that all along I could have done
- 27:02Speaker 1: this when I had been told I couldn't do it
- 27:05Speaker 1: because it was so hard to do. And so when
- 27:08Speaker 1: I hear you saying, man, it was a lot of stress,
- 27:10Speaker 1: it was like, that's part of the process of walking
- 27:13Speaker 1: through fire. Yeah, and you do it again and again
- 27:18Speaker 1: and again, and guess what, it's not because it's easier
- 27:21Speaker 1: because you trust yourself, right, And that's why we're trying
- 27:25Speaker 1: to get that. When I'm talking to you as a
- 27:27Speaker 1: person who said, look what, I won't be pigeonholed because
- 27:30Speaker 1: I want to know what it feels like to do
- 27:32Speaker 1: R and B music. I want to know what to
- 27:34Speaker 1: feel like do rock music. I wanted to feel hip
- 27:36Speaker 1: hop music because guess what, then I understand my value.
- 27:40Speaker 1: And that's all this conversation about is about your value.
- 27:43Speaker 1: The first time I met you, I always felt I
- 27:45Speaker 1: was talking to a uniquely different individual because you value
- 27:48Speaker 1: things differently. And now you tell me you've been doing
- 27:51Speaker 1: this since you were eleven years old, I appreciate and
- 27:54Speaker 1: respect you even more. Man, I'm grateful for that, all right.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Was blessed to be able to have those civilities, and
- 28:01Speaker 1: you just nailed it. I'm so honored that you've been
- 28:04Speaker 1: seeing and following what I've been able to do, because
- 28:07Speaker 1: I can only hope that is that a lot of
- 28:09Speaker 1: times you know, as you said, we think with myself
- 28:11Speaker 1: and that people miss it. So it's really cool to see.
- 28:14Speaker 1: But all of the positions were necessary. The first one
- 28:17Speaker 1: was a servant leader. My mother was doing a lot
- 28:20Speaker 1: of the management with Holly Carter. I was young. I
- 28:23Speaker 1: had confidence in the music, but I'm not necessarily confidence
- 28:26Speaker 1: in the meeting room, so I wouldn't speak much. I
- 28:29Speaker 1: was also directed and told not to speak much. How
- 28:32Speaker 1: have I started noticing that at the end of the day,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I had the final say. So if I had the
- 28:36Speaker 1: final say, I started trying to work my way into
- 28:38Speaker 1: getting the first say, and you know, versus it kind
- 28:41Speaker 1: of going all the way through and it me seeming
- 28:43Speaker 1: like it's not that. But at the end of the day,
- 28:46Speaker 1: that's the only way that I can keep it in
- 28:47Speaker 1: God's hands. That's the only way that I can keep
- 28:48Speaker 1: the integrity of my anointing clear. If I wasn't in
- 28:51Speaker 1: a situation where I can control these things, people will
- 28:54Speaker 1: continue to say, even in churches, Molly, we want you
- 28:57Speaker 1: to sing, but don't sing this song, don't say this,
- 29:00Speaker 1: don't be this, don't act like this. Once I started
- 29:02Speaker 1: recognizing and seeing that that's what was going to happen
- 29:05Speaker 1: early in Gospel, I knew it was time to get
- 29:07Speaker 1: out because there was no way to be what I
- 29:09Speaker 1: was without the housekeepers of the places I was going
- 29:12Speaker 1: to sing at protecting their people, right, and they protect
- 29:15Speaker 1: their people from me. So I'm like, well, I just
- 29:17Speaker 1: got to get out so I could go ahead and
- 29:18Speaker 1: be everything that God said and then you guys won't
- 29:21Speaker 1: have to worry about what you're telling me not to do.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And it worked out in spite of a world of people,
- 29:26Speaker 1: a whole wave of creative people, and it's caused me
- 29:29Speaker 1: to not be able to stop even when the world stops.
- 29:32Speaker 1: During the pandemic, I was a visualizing myself as a
- 29:35Speaker 1: Joseph like, Okay, well, everybody may not be able to
- 29:39Speaker 1: get the best of what they wanted or liked while
- 29:41Speaker 1: everything was flowing, but they could at least get this
- 29:43Speaker 1: weak They could at least get something. And uh, and
- 29:47Speaker 1: I have it stored up, So how can I bring
- 29:49Speaker 1: it out? I already have an album out? How can
- 29:52Speaker 1: I release the more? And partner with other people? And
- 29:54Speaker 1: keep saying? And it worked. COVID shut down music, shut
- 29:58Speaker 1: down our lives. You're down two dates. Now we've got
- 30:02Speaker 1: new music. We got two days coming of tell us
- 30:04Speaker 1: how one is going to play yourself out for a man,
- 30:08Speaker 1: it's so packed and stacked, and a lot of my
- 30:12Speaker 1: colleagues are excited because they're saying that this is what
- 30:15Speaker 1: they wanted. But during the pandemic, I recognize that I
- 30:19Speaker 1: did not want to make my money on the road
- 30:21Speaker 1: primarily maybe when I was younger and all this stuff
- 30:25Speaker 1: like that, And I get opportunities to sing and travel
- 30:27Speaker 1: now because I really want to see my people and
- 30:29Speaker 1: I love the stage. Um. However, as a soul, you know,
- 30:35Speaker 1: commodity or a stream of income, I don't feel like
- 30:38Speaker 1: it's the ways. Uh, there's so many ways to make
- 30:41Speaker 1: a thousand dollars, ten thousand dollars overnight if you can
- 30:44Speaker 1: get the education and look versus waiting a whole month
- 30:48Speaker 1: stressing your body and banging your body to gain five
- 30:51Speaker 1: thousand dollars. You know here seven thousand dollars there sitting
- 30:56Speaker 1: down forced me to say, Okay, this is God's way
- 30:59Speaker 1: of making everybody's strong instinct from them. So this is
- 31:03Speaker 1: a year for us to adopt and adapt new hobbies.
- 31:07Speaker 1: And I used it to create new streams of income
- 31:10Speaker 1: just in case the ones that closed never came back.
- 31:12Speaker 1: So now I created five, and then the five I
- 31:15Speaker 1: had came back, and I was ten strings of income.
- 31:18Speaker 1: And you know, it's a really crazy thing, and I
- 31:19Speaker 1: wanted to make sure that the other five had nothing
- 31:21Speaker 1: to do with music. So now when I sing, I
- 31:24Speaker 1: primarily use the increase that I get from singing to
- 31:27Speaker 1: tap into another entrepreneur. Mine to be able to buy
- 31:31Speaker 1: stocks or invest in juices or milk or something that
- 31:35Speaker 1: the stores are buying, so that I'm making money without
- 31:39Speaker 1: being great. Get what I'm saying, Well, you know I
- 31:42Speaker 1: because I'm I look at the I went back and
- 31:46Speaker 1: I told my stockbroker. I said, no, no, no, don't
- 31:49Speaker 1: put me in a fund. Said I'm gonna tell you
- 31:51Speaker 1: what I want to buy. I picked our ten stocks
- 31:54Speaker 1: that I said, these are ones I want to buy. Oh,
- 31:56Speaker 1: you know, I would have loved been in that. But
- 31:59Speaker 1: do you know, I mean ever trust myself and I
- 32:03Speaker 1: never trust myself. And so but I want to close
- 32:06Speaker 1: and saying this about you is that you know, we've
- 32:10Speaker 1: seen everybody as we go back live and things, and
- 32:14Speaker 1: we've seen an over ground swell of people wanted to
- 32:17Speaker 1: see live events, you know, people concerts selling out the
- 32:21Speaker 1: two or three shows, comedy show. I think this is
- 32:23Speaker 1: going to be such a unique moment for you, Molly,
- 32:26Speaker 1: because to be able, this is the annointing time I
- 32:29Speaker 1: think for individuals like you to get out there not
- 32:32Speaker 1: only to deliver your music, but to hear people wanted
- 32:34Speaker 1: to receive it, and I just think it's gonna be
- 32:37Speaker 1: a great year for you, man, and I respect so
- 32:40Speaker 1: much what you've accomplished in the past. You got my
- 32:42Speaker 1: hands up, you got my hands up. I receive it.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I want to walk in it with grace and um
- 32:54Speaker 1: heavenly anointing. I just don't want to take any read
- 33:00Speaker 1: it for it because I can mess it up with
- 33:01Speaker 1: human frustration, limitation, all this stuff like that. But I
- 33:05Speaker 1: do feel like it's a last of events, so I
- 33:08Speaker 1: don't want to just keep saying to everybody, this is
- 33:10Speaker 1: the time for stories, plays, short short stuff, conversations like
- 33:15Speaker 1: this on stage. It's time for people to I guess,
- 33:18Speaker 1: feel what it feels like to be around people again.
- 33:22Speaker 1: And if we're creative in making events that are new,
- 33:26Speaker 1: then we could just continue to That's what I'm talking
- 33:29Speaker 1: about this, That's all I'm talking about that because you know,
- 33:32Speaker 1: because when you were talking about you know, you know
- 33:34Speaker 1: you make five thousand, then we I know, we got that.
- 33:36Speaker 1: But the basis of what we do in gospel is emotion.
- 33:39Speaker 1: It's driven by opportunities, it's driven by blessing and the
- 33:43Speaker 1: fact that you're about to step out into the world
- 33:46Speaker 1: and be received again and people are about to understand
- 33:50Speaker 1: the value of the Holy Spirit. My man, my hands
- 33:53Speaker 1: up because wow, palms out, hands up. Point that you baby,
- 33:58Speaker 1: point that you, Molly music man. I feel what you're
- 34:02Speaker 1: saying is so right. I had a conversation with Jonathan
- 34:04Speaker 1: mc reynolds. We're getting ready to do a Victory Lab album,
