The True Scale of the Orion Arm... And Why Our Solar System Feels Lost Inside It
Close your eyes and drift into the vast, quiet spiral of the Milky Way. A gentle journey into the true scale of the Orion Arm, the small, partial arm of our galaxy where our solar system drifts. Spanning 10,000 to 20,000 light-years, this modest branch of stars and gas lies between the two major galactic arms, a cosmic backwater far from the bright center. Our Sun is just one of billions in this quiet corner, a tiny presence on a cosmic island adrift in a sea of stars. Let the peaceful, lonely reality of our place in the galaxy carry you into a deep and restful sleep.
