- 0:07Speaker 1: has the secrets of success experience firsthand by marketing and
- 0:10Speaker 1: Brandon expert Rashan McDonald. I will know he's giving me
- 0:13Speaker 1: advice on many occasions. In the case you didn't notice,
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm not broke, you know, he'll be interviewing celebrity CEOs,
- 0:19Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and industry decision makers. It's what he likes to do.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It's what he likes to share. Now it's time to
- 0:25Speaker 1: hear from my man, Rashan McDonald money Making Conversations. Here
- 0:29Speaker 1: we go. Yeah, it is ras Sean McDonald money Making
- 0:31Speaker 1: Conversations as usual. I bring top talent, top knowledge, top information.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Knowledge and information can be perceived to be the same thing,
- 0:39Speaker 1: but I disagree. It's how you get the information, and
- 0:44Speaker 1: you take that information and you shape it into some knowledge,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and you shape that knowledge into an opportunity. You shape
- 0:49Speaker 1: that opportunity into a goal, and when you make that goal,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you can start playing in success. My next guest is
- 0:55Speaker 1: a fashion expert, actress and TV personality. I first noticed
- 0:59Speaker 1: her on the show in the Style Network called How
- 1:01Speaker 1: Do I Look? Because I had a car makeover show
- 1:04Speaker 1: on the Style Network at the same time called pulled Over.
- 1:08Speaker 1: She's on the show to promote her new series, Holy
- 1:11Speaker 1: Moldy on ABC. The show premiers jew and executive and
- 1:15Speaker 1: is executive produced by NBA superstar Steph long Range Curry
- 1:20Speaker 1: of The Golden State Warris Please working with the Money
- 1:22Speaker 1: Making Conversations Emmy Award winning co host of The Real
- 1:26Speaker 1: Genie My Well, thank you. The energy is what I
- 1:33Speaker 1: expected none. You are the true energy of the Real
- 1:37Speaker 1: You know that, right? I mean, you know, I'm just
- 1:40Speaker 1: hype about life because you know, I have a great
- 1:47Speaker 1: relationship with Lonnie, you know, and I did uh the
- 1:49Speaker 1: sister sister with girl Mari many years and know both
- 1:54Speaker 1: for the girl. And then uh, then I just had
- 1:56Speaker 1: Adrian on the show and uh and and and it
- 1:59Speaker 1: was all someone you're talking about. I had to get you, well,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I had to wait on this show. Holy Moly. I
- 2:06Speaker 1: had to wait on it. The Holy Moly wasn't have
- 2:08Speaker 1: been shot yet I heard about it. So now you're
- 2:11Speaker 1: here talking about stretching out, because the thing about it
- 2:14Speaker 1: is that, like I said, really, you know, I always
- 2:17Speaker 1: look at people a body of work. Like I said,
- 2:19Speaker 1: when the Style Network was just no longer existing anymore.
- 2:22Speaker 1: That's when I first show you. And then, like I said,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I was still producing a lot of independent shows myself
- 2:27Speaker 1: and still managing Steve Harve at the same time. And
- 2:29Speaker 1: when I had pulled over, you know, you started looking
- 2:31Speaker 1: at other shows on the show and you started noticing
- 2:33Speaker 1: different talents. Well you want one of the talents that
- 2:36Speaker 1: caught my And guess what you're watching on the sideline
- 2:44Speaker 1: right Well, you know you're always trying to try You're
- 2:46Speaker 1: trying to figure out, you know, other other ideas for
- 2:49Speaker 1: different shows. You know, who could start in different shows,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and so so you always and that still was in
- 2:54Speaker 1: the early game of reality shows. Reality shows just exploded, right,
- 2:58Speaker 1: but that was like the ear in early two thousand,
- 3:01Speaker 1: thousand four, two thousand five time frame. And so because
- 3:04Speaker 1: I left New York and I did a barbershop show
- 3:06Speaker 1: for MTV It's called The Shop, which is the same
- 3:09Speaker 1: type of show that that Lebron James is doing right
- 3:11Speaker 1: now on HBO. And so yeah, so so I saw
- 3:15Speaker 1: you and I went wow, you know, it was beyond
- 3:18Speaker 1: you know, you know us attractive, articulate, but your energy
- 3:21Speaker 1: is what sold me that. Thank you absolutely. And so
- 3:25Speaker 1: when I see you on the reel now and putting
- 3:26Speaker 1: that energy to its golf man, it's crazy. And then
- 3:29Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I have so much energy on the reel.
- 3:32Speaker 1: And then you know, being able to be um on
- 3:35Speaker 1: the show that talks about women, you know about teaches
- 3:39Speaker 1: men out there what they need to know about. I
- 3:41Speaker 1: had to bring my energy to Holy moly, it just
- 3:42Speaker 1: made sense. Emmy Emmy Award winning. Okay, let's go. It's
- 3:46Speaker 1: gonna get these titles, right, Emmy Award winning Genie. Now
- 3:50Speaker 1: you got at the house, right, you gotta get the
- 3:52Speaker 1: trophy because I got Now it's representing Oh my gosh,
- 3:55Speaker 1: it's just a lot of problem. My mom polishes that
- 3:58Speaker 1: you go because I got mine at the house and
- 3:59Speaker 1: sit in the fireplace. You know, they look at they
- 4:03Speaker 1: look at me. That's that's because they're not passing those out.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And then you have to realize that they're not passing
- 4:09Speaker 1: those out. And when you when you warned the honor
- 4:11Speaker 1: and continue to understand that it's a true blessing, but
- 4:14Speaker 1: they're not passing them out, and so so they might
- 4:16Speaker 1: do them local, these little local marks. But Jewels was
- 4:19Speaker 1: national and it was well deserved. Yeah, we killed it.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I say, Menny love to Memoi Housily Adrian Hill. We
- 4:25Speaker 1: killed it. We really looked hard for it, and we
- 4:27Speaker 1: have an amazing team that aims to please everything we
- 4:30Speaker 1: dream about. They bring to Truition Um an amazing executive producer,
- 4:33Speaker 1: Like just every single person on the team helped us
- 4:36Speaker 1: get to where we are. So it's it's it's a
- 4:38Speaker 1: it's seriously just the beginning seeing it right there. Now
- 4:41Speaker 1: let's talk about holy mom. Let me give me a
- 4:42Speaker 1: little background by Rashan McDonald. This is kind of like
- 4:45Speaker 1: advanced put put golf right, both put golf on steroids
- 4:48Speaker 1: at my room. Yes exactly, Yes, that's exactly it. Okay,
- 4:53Speaker 1: so so put put golf. I have to say, in
- 4:56Speaker 1: college was my number one dating place, no way of shin.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm just telling you. I could hear that about that.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You know, you sound like a person who types about
- 5:06Speaker 1: having a little different fun and you know, something that
- 5:09Speaker 1: to bring some adventure into any date. I could see
- 5:12Speaker 1: that it was the number one committee was like it
- 5:14Speaker 1: was so cool because you know, you could actually talk
- 5:16Speaker 1: to your date and get close to your date as well.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And then it was it was like it was it
- 5:21Speaker 1: was outdoors and and and I always felt so to
- 5:26Speaker 1: see this on a national platform, I'm really excited because
- 5:30Speaker 1: I know how much fun I personally had and and
- 5:33Speaker 1: I was good at that. I was good at it that.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So to see you now, are you what is your
- 5:38Speaker 1: put put game level? Yeah? So, I mean I'm pretty
- 5:42Speaker 1: boss if I say to myself, because I make it fun.
- 5:44Speaker 1: It's not just getting a hole in one. Then your
- 5:46Speaker 1: golf is all about the composition, the personality, taking each
- 5:50Speaker 1: other on the fashion, the ability to kind of break
- 5:54Speaker 1: down every hole and make it a fun experience, just
- 5:58Speaker 1: you know, from the way you play it. So being
- 6:00Speaker 1: the sideline correspondent to hold Molly was a perfect job
- 6:02Speaker 1: for me because I basically come and I bring the flag. Um,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you have all these contestants that are that we found
- 6:08Speaker 1: from across the globe to come and compete for twenty
- 6:12Speaker 1: five thou dollars. They also are competing against our executive producers,
- 6:15Speaker 1: that's Curry. So there's so many elements that make you
- 6:18Speaker 1: bring your a game and it's a crazy game. All
- 6:22Speaker 1: the holes are basically made larger than life. The wooden mills.
- 6:26Speaker 1: There are wooden mills that knocked people out on their
- 6:28Speaker 1: back there's floating toilips that give you a nice cushion
- 6:34Speaker 1: for your fall. There are three story foot drops into
- 6:37Speaker 1: freezing cold maagoons. There's glaciers that you guys slip and
- 6:41Speaker 1: slide your way up in order to fight a polar
- 6:43Speaker 1: bear to fut your hole in. It's it's insane. I
- 6:46Speaker 1: have never in my life seen anything like this. But
- 6:48Speaker 1: it also makes me wonder why the hell does it
- 6:51Speaker 1: take so long, because ministry called should be at this level.
- 6:54Speaker 1: It is so much fun. Well, okay, first of all,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you just grab things I've never experienced, so which is
- 7:00Speaker 1: a great thing. And so you said a glazier, uh,
- 7:03Speaker 1: three foot drops, you said the waterfall, you said the
- 7:06Speaker 1: windmill that will knock you down. Okay, okay, this is sound,
- 7:10Speaker 1: this is done. That sounds fun. But before, I before
- 7:12Speaker 1: we're going to further detail, you mentioned Steph Curry. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: know he has it. I know he loves to play
- 7:17Speaker 1: golf personally. So now he's in there, they're competing against him,
- 7:21Speaker 1: or he's just the host, they're competing against him, but
- 7:26Speaker 1: he's also the executive producer. So there's a moment where
- 7:29Speaker 1: every contestant has to make a decision on whether or
- 7:31Speaker 1: not they want to play again, or they want to
- 7:35Speaker 1: have Stef Curry touch for them, or they want a
- 7:37Speaker 1: robot to put for them. So Steth Curry actually go
- 7:40Speaker 1: against a robot, which goes to show how good he
- 7:42Speaker 1: is that golf because the robot has accuracy, so you
- 7:46Speaker 1: would be usually surprised. Okay, So now you, my friend,
- 7:53Speaker 1: did you play at all? Are you just? Man? I
- 7:59Speaker 1: bring it, Kimmy, and I also not only killed it
- 8:04Speaker 1: at some of my strokes, but I go ahead to
- 8:07Speaker 1: ahead with pretty big celebrity who I had my eye after,
- 8:12Speaker 1: and let me tell you, I did not go away upset.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I definitely won that. You're gonna have to wait and
- 8:19Speaker 1: see who it is I put again. Okay, Okay, now
- 8:22Speaker 1: so you action because you only mentioned Slot Sideline reporter
- 8:25Speaker 1: at first. So you're out there throwing down with the
- 8:27Speaker 1: with the putter yourself. Because I'm messy like that, I
- 8:30Speaker 1: had to get into it even though I'm just the
- 8:31Speaker 1: host of me. I'm only going to sit down host
- 8:34Speaker 1: like you know, I have to get up in it too.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Now that that's what I love about this. So so,
- 8:38Speaker 1: because you know, I watch other shows like American Ninja
- 8:41Speaker 1: where the host of truly on the sidelines. They on
- 8:43Speaker 1: the sideline, they just point, They just talking about what
- 8:46Speaker 1: they see. No, not this one. Nope, I get into it.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I definitely do because I had to. It's so much
- 8:51Speaker 1: fun when you see it though. The course is unbelievable,
- 8:54Speaker 1: so it makes you want to jump in and get
- 8:56Speaker 1: in there and get yourself a little dirty with everybody else.
- 8:58Speaker 1: One thing once Skills said, you have your very descriptive
- 9:01Speaker 1: in your tone. So walk us through a typical Holy Holy,
- 9:05Speaker 1: I guess the contest. How does it start? And how
- 9:08Speaker 1: many holes is it? And what are the point are
- 9:11Speaker 1: the point? Is there a point system? Because you mentioned
- 9:14Speaker 1: the kids, you mentioned why where are they standing there? Yeah?
- 9:18Speaker 1: So the entire course takes place in Santa Clarita, which
- 9:21Speaker 1: it's huge. I mean we're talking I think of like
- 9:24Speaker 1: maybe ten of your major golf courses all put together.
- 9:27Speaker 1: It's massive. You can't see from one end of the
- 9:30Speaker 1: course to the other. And every hole has a very
- 9:33Speaker 1: specific strategic way of kind of taking you around the world.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So we have a little bit of that challenge. We
- 9:39Speaker 1: take you to the coldest outsit the ice glaciers. Um,
- 9:43Speaker 1: we take you through a logger's run um, you know,
- 9:46Speaker 1: with um some huge tumbling blogs that come and take
- 9:50Speaker 1: you down. So each hole is crafted so you have
- 9:52Speaker 1: a really cool experience that unlike anything you've ever seen,
- 9:55Speaker 1: larger than life. All in good fun, but definitely you're
- 9:59Speaker 1: going to get um mac laft or spun in some
- 10:02Speaker 1: type of way. And so these golfers go head to
- 10:05Speaker 1: head as they count down each week towards the winning
- 10:09Speaker 1: dollars and being able to say that they are the
- 10:12Speaker 1: champion of Minister Golf. They get to compete with people
- 10:16Speaker 1: like Steph Curry and other celebrity guests that we had
- 10:18Speaker 1: every single week. I can't believe I had a couple
- 10:20Speaker 1: of pro golfers too. Actually, a kind of fan goes
- 10:24Speaker 1: a little bit ran up through without pictures and everything.
- 10:27Speaker 1: The entire game, Yeah, the entire game is a trip, man,
- 10:30Speaker 1: because you just you can't believe what people will go
- 10:33Speaker 1: through to prove that they are the best at golf.
- 10:35Speaker 1: And then you also can't believe what the human body
- 10:37Speaker 1: can endure when you see some of these holes take
- 10:39Speaker 1: them down. It's crazy. So now, now how did this
- 10:46Speaker 1: maybe two days might be a producer courtion. How did
- 10:48Speaker 1: they get the contestants. How did they get me to commit? No, No,
- 10:53Speaker 1: the contestants who play the game, how did they find them?
- 10:55Speaker 1: Because it feels like they had to. They feel like
- 10:58Speaker 1: they had a huge world white search, search the class
- 11:02Speaker 1: America to find the most passionate people for ministerr Golf. Wow,
- 11:07Speaker 1: here we are, so you're telling about there there these
- 11:10Speaker 1: are like the best of the best and miniature golf world.
- 11:13Speaker 1: That's right for the most passionate. I would say the
- 11:15Speaker 1: most cassionate. And so yes, some of champions in their
- 11:19Speaker 1: own challenge. Okay, so Rushan should have been there. Rushan
- 11:24Speaker 1: should have been there, you know, fighting with the with
- 11:27Speaker 1: the glaciers, finding fight, fighting it there with the windmill.
- 11:31Speaker 1: That you have some very descriptive journeys on this course.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Now you're talking about the windmill. The windmill that what
- 11:38Speaker 1: you as as a breeze tie too it or what
- 11:41Speaker 1: is it? Or what is the most adventurous hole? I
- 11:45Speaker 1: guess you could say top three most adventurous holes that
- 11:47Speaker 1: that that that the contestant would have to endure to
- 11:50Speaker 1: complete the course. The most difficult hole would probably be
- 11:56Speaker 1: the that's challenge is it's a huge wind now that
- 12:02Speaker 1: is going at that you think looks easy going, but
- 12:04Speaker 1: when you stand up next year and you've got to
- 12:06Speaker 1: jump through, no amount of jump rope or double duch
- 12:09Speaker 1: is going to prepare you for this right and when
- 12:11Speaker 1: this wind will hit you. I saw human beings fly
- 12:13Speaker 1: in different shapes and colors. I was dying it was
- 12:16Speaker 1: And the funny thing is you can absolutely laugh. It's
- 12:19Speaker 1: the first time you have permission to last like people
- 12:21Speaker 1: so well. I want to thank everybody for I want
- 12:25Speaker 1: to thank you Jeannie for coming on my show, and
- 12:27Speaker 1: I want to remind everybody to check out Holy Moly
- 12:30Speaker 1: on ABC is hosted by is that could be a
- 12:33Speaker 1: boost by a man and Steph Curry. So you need
- 12:36Speaker 1: to do your thing. I appreciate you. Okay, thank you, Rashan,
- 12:39Speaker 1: thank you so much. I can't wait to see you
- 12:40Speaker 1: on the Call of Course sometime. Okay, bye bye. I
- 12:44Speaker 1: was looking for a better way to check in on
- 12:45Speaker 1: our house while I was at work and a friend
- 12:47Speaker 1: recommended Blink. I was skeptical, but decided to give it
- 12:50Speaker 1: a shot, and I bought a Blink camera system. With
- 12:53Speaker 1: our last security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and monthly fees,
- 12:57Speaker 1: we couldn't get out of my bad But our Blink
- 12:59Speaker 1: system is different. Their motion activated cameras that work inside
- 13:02Speaker 1: and outside, their wire free, easy to set up, and
- 13:05Speaker 1: they run on two lithium batteries that last up to
- 13:07Speaker 1: two years. Total peace of mind and Blink camera system
- 13:10Speaker 1: started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions. We were on
- 13:13Speaker 1: vacation and I gotten to learn of my smartphone that
- 13:16Speaker 1: motion was detected at our front door. I checked my
- 13:18Speaker 1: Blink app and I saw it was just my cool
- 13:20Speaker 1: new device being delivered. Hey, we agreed no new devices
- 13:23Speaker 1: except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding. With Blink camera systems
- 13:27Speaker 1: starting under eighty bucks, home security just got easier. Go
- 13:31Speaker 1: to Blink Protected dot Com, slash Secure, blink Protect dot Com,
- 13:36Speaker 1: slash Secure, blink Protect dot Com. Slash Secure. Blink is
- 13:41Speaker 1: an Amazon company and it works with Alexa wow Ra.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Sean McDonald's speaking very clearly on the microphone. I've learned to,
- 13:50Speaker 1: you know, move my entire body when I talk. You
- 13:53Speaker 1: just talk with my lips. Now I realized you have
- 13:55Speaker 1: to move your diaphragm, your chest in the words, you
- 13:58Speaker 1: mote the proper format so everybody can clearly understand what
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm talking about. My next guest. Uh, excited about it?
- 14:07Speaker 1: I read it. I read an article about my next
- 14:09Speaker 1: guest in the Triple A magazine of Texas. Triple A
- 14:12Speaker 1: stands for the American Automobile Association, and their magazine feature
- 14:17Speaker 1: stories about local businesses in Texas. The business that Triple
- 14:20Speaker 1: A magazine feature was Jarvis Boards, a surfboard company based
- 14:25Speaker 1: in Austin, Texas, and his owner is an African American.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Please welcome to moneymaking Conversations. The owner of Jarvis Boards,
- 14:33Speaker 1: Tony Smith. Thank you for having me, Tony. How are
- 14:37Speaker 1: you doing, my friend, I'm doing great. Thank you for
- 14:39Speaker 1: having me on. Oh yeah, Well, I've been a member
- 14:41Speaker 1: of Triple A for about what it's about eighty five?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Could I be used to be a road comic and
- 14:47Speaker 1: so I always on the road, So I knew I
- 14:50Speaker 1: need to Triple A just in case my car broke down.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So I've been an avid reader, uh and receiving the
- 14:55Speaker 1: Triple A magazine on a monthly basis, And I came
- 14:58Speaker 1: across your article and I felt your story is compelling
- 15:01Speaker 1: because of the fact that you're venturing as an entrepreneur
- 15:04Speaker 1: in an environment that one would consider that shouldn't be
- 15:07Speaker 1: an environment that you should venture into. But I wanted
- 15:10Speaker 1: to tell your story because one, you are Houstonian. Let's
- 15:13Speaker 1: get that out. Because I'm a Houstonian by the way. Yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: it's funny. Um. You know, I grew up in Houston,
- 15:19Speaker 1: and everybody at my parents church and neighborhood back in
- 15:22Speaker 1: Acres Homes in Houston came over and saw us in
- 15:25Speaker 1: Triple and magazine and they're all excited to shoot my
- 15:29Speaker 1: parents and talk to my parents about it. Um. So
- 15:32Speaker 1: that that that piece of press has been been great
- 15:34Speaker 1: for us, and it was a conduitor and that you
- 15:37Speaker 1: and I which is exciting absolutely. Um. Acre's home was
- 15:41Speaker 1: on the north side of Houston, as the mayor of
- 15:43Speaker 1: Houston is from Acre's home. Just let you know, as
- 15:46Speaker 1: a pretty thriving community. UM. From phil War Texas in
- 15:50Speaker 1: Houston and uh two communities MoMA like in the kind
- 15:54Speaker 1: of like in the heart of Houston. And now, what
- 15:56Speaker 1: school did you go to college? Uh? So I went
- 16:00Speaker 1: to Trinity University in San Antonio, UM, and then would
- 16:06Speaker 1: would come up to Austin, Texas to go rock climbing
- 16:09Speaker 1: all the time and just kind of fell in love
- 16:11Speaker 1: with the outdoor lifestyle. And Austin and moved to Austin
- 16:15Speaker 1: and begin my career in finance in two thousands fives. Okay,
- 16:20Speaker 1: now let's just talk about rock climbing. Okay, Now, you
- 16:23Speaker 1: know you've gotta be honest. This is I'm African American.
- 16:26Speaker 1: African American. Okay, rock climbing, boards, surfing out there in
- 16:30Speaker 1: the water. That's not what we will typically assume an
- 16:34Speaker 1: African American do. Correct. That that's correct, and that's uh,
- 16:39Speaker 1: that's one of the driving forces for me personally for
- 16:42Speaker 1: the company Vision company brand and why I'm so avid about,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know, pushing the sport and and pushing Jervis boards
- 16:49Speaker 1: is you know this, this African American experience doesn't have
- 16:52Speaker 1: to be a narrow path of of of activities. Um
- 16:57Speaker 1: with with a lot more people adventuring outdoors and rock climbing, surfing,
- 17:01Speaker 1: paddle boarding, all of those are just fun, great athletic
- 17:05Speaker 1: activities that are enjoyable, um that I enjoyed personally. And
- 17:08Speaker 1: I want, you know, when when my kids twenty thirty
- 17:12Speaker 1: years old, for people to not be having the conversation saying, oh,
- 17:16Speaker 1: that's not a not an African American thing, or you know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: black people don't don't do X y Z UM. You know,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I want to be on sort of that leading edge
- 17:24Speaker 1: if you will, well, you're on the leading edge. I'll
- 17:26Speaker 1: let you know that I'm acting like you're not on
- 17:30Speaker 1: the leading edge. You're all on the edge, my friend.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And it's funny when I when I told my mom
- 17:35Speaker 1: that I wonder if to start a company building paddle board,
- 17:38Speaker 1: She's like, what's the paddle board? Talk? Talked about listeners
- 17:44Speaker 1: and educate them or exactly what your company does? Yees.
- 17:47Speaker 1: So Jarvis Boards, what we do is we bill stand
- 17:50Speaker 1: up paddle boards UM. But specifically our stand up poddle
- 17:53Speaker 1: boards are made out of wood, so they have a
- 17:56Speaker 1: really high end, unique look with a lot of them
- 18:00Speaker 1: customizable with different graphics logos. You know, we've built UH
- 18:05Speaker 1: boards for a number of celebrities and UM athletes, UH
- 18:10Speaker 1: and and CEOs of companies and so they'll customize them
- 18:14Speaker 1: with with whatever detail or logo they like. UM and
- 18:18Speaker 1: that's what really makes us unique. One. You know, our
- 18:21Speaker 1: boards are made in the States here in Austin, Texas too.
- 18:25Speaker 1: They're customizable and three um, they're made out of wood,
- 18:28Speaker 1: so they have this really premium, high end look UM.
- 18:32Speaker 1: As far as poddle boarding as a sport, you know,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's the fastest growing water sport in the country. UM,
- 18:37Speaker 1: that's just exploded in popularity in the last nine ten years.
- 18:41Speaker 1: It can be enjoyed, you know at the ocean, surfing,
- 18:44Speaker 1: inland lakes and rivers for fishing. Um, you can do yoga,
- 18:49Speaker 1: just hang out and relax. A lot of our poddle
- 18:52Speaker 1: boards that we sell we put in cup holders so
- 18:54Speaker 1: you can just hang out on the water and have
- 18:56Speaker 1: a nice cold one for yourself to be like Jarvis,
- 19:00Speaker 1: you're going too far, my friend the couples about that. Now,
- 19:03Speaker 1: let's let's get a little bit more impadable paddle board
- 19:06Speaker 1: and you're standing up correct and then you got correct.
- 19:09Speaker 1: You got this long paddle and you go on left
- 19:11Speaker 1: right and moving yourself. So people need to know you
- 19:15Speaker 1: kind of need to be in prepared to stand a lot,
- 19:19Speaker 1: you know when you pad the board all right, that's right. Um,
- 19:24Speaker 1: you know, think of it as like a giant surfboard. Uh.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And a lot of people see it and they're intimidated.
- 19:29Speaker 1: On my Instagram, I have a story that I did,
- 19:33Speaker 1: uh when Bruce Bowen came up. He's an NBA spur retired.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Now he came up and warning and unfortunately three times
- 19:43Speaker 1: taken out and go piddle warning for the Joe the time.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Um ye can hear me? All right, Tony, I want
- 19:53Speaker 1: to let you know, let's let's back up a little
- 19:55Speaker 1: bit on this Jarvis board and Bruce Bones. Okay, let's
- 19:58Speaker 1: let's really multi fact Jarvis ball. Okay, Bruce boyn he
- 20:02Speaker 1: kind of like to say he was. This guy was
- 20:03Speaker 1: Santa to you. Three times NBA Defensive Player of the
- 20:07Speaker 1: Year for the San Antonio Spoard. Let's give using them
- 20:09Speaker 1: HiPE now, Tony, Okay, you know jobs boy, you know
- 20:13Speaker 1: I read about your article. He's a big deal now
- 20:16Speaker 1: because he kind of threw him my thoughts. He's bilingual.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You know it's Bruce Board is a bad boy. Okay,
- 20:21Speaker 1: came up to your shop now, I'm just sending it.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Came up to Jarvis Boards. So let's set a tone
- 20:25Speaker 1: that three time NBA defensive player that you came to
- 20:28Speaker 1: your location. Yes, yes, that's right. And and I'll add
- 20:33Speaker 1: he was absolutely the coolest, most laid back down the
- 20:37Speaker 1: earth guy that you can you can imagine, Um, you
- 20:40Speaker 1: know you just talking to him, you would never think
- 20:43Speaker 1: he's three times you know NBA defenseive player, Like he
- 20:47Speaker 1: was just so down the earth and cool and laid
- 20:49Speaker 1: back and funny that it was just you know, like
- 20:52Speaker 1: taking out anybody else to go piddle boarding for the
- 20:54Speaker 1: first time. But but but we, uh, you know, go
- 20:58Speaker 1: out and he's he's a he's a big beauty's tall.
- 21:00Speaker 1: He's a little bit nervous, but you know, he's athletic
- 21:02Speaker 1: and uh, you know, he's tent. And he gets on
- 21:04Speaker 1: the board and I give him a few five ten
- 21:07Speaker 1: minutes tutorial. We hop on, he starts battling, and then
- 21:11Speaker 1: you know, by the by the first hour, he's cracking
- 21:14Speaker 1: jokes and we're having a good time. So one of
- 21:16Speaker 1: the cool things about the sport is how accessible it
- 21:20Speaker 1: is for wide range of people and athletic types. Right,
- 21:25Speaker 1: So I've sold boards too. You know, one of my
- 21:27Speaker 1: favorite customers here and in Austin, Texas. This was my
- 21:31Speaker 1: early early days when I was just getting started, still
- 21:34Speaker 1: working my day job in finance, but she bought one
- 21:37Speaker 1: of my boards. Are actually our husband bought it for
- 21:39Speaker 1: as a retirement yestum. She's a grandmother of six. I
- 21:43Speaker 1: think she was like sixty seven years old at the
- 21:45Speaker 1: time and just a sweet older lady. And uh, we
- 21:49Speaker 1: still send each other Christmas cards. You know that that's
- 21:51Speaker 1: one of the the cool things about the sport is
- 21:54Speaker 1: making those personal connections and and and engaging with people
- 21:57Speaker 1: and learning their stories and being able to build a physical,
- 22:01Speaker 1: tangible product that they can love using enjoy. Absolutely the
- 22:06Speaker 1: the thing that they're really excited me about getting you
- 22:08Speaker 1: on the show. And thank you for taking the time
- 22:10Speaker 1: to come on the show. I'm speaking to Tony Smith.
- 22:12Speaker 1: He's based in Austin, Texas. He's the owner of Jarvis
- 22:16Speaker 1: boards is. Uh, the paddle boards is which is a
- 22:18Speaker 1: growing sport and um and outdoor adventure entertainment. And so
- 22:23Speaker 1: the thing that you you made a decision to go
- 22:26Speaker 1: into this, tell everybody how you got started, because you
- 22:28Speaker 1: started out building a canoe, correct, and then then this
- 22:30Speaker 1: evolved into this. See you just had that that then
- 22:34Speaker 1: instinct to work with your hands, and it started with
- 22:36Speaker 1: a canoe. Yeah, so it even really starts, um, you
- 22:41Speaker 1: know before then uh, and you know, I do a
- 22:43Speaker 1: little bit of homework about you, and you're sort of
- 22:45Speaker 1: unconventional story of of you know, IBM to to leaving
- 22:49Speaker 1: that day job to focus on your passion of you know,
- 22:51Speaker 1: stand up media and um, my road is a little
- 22:54Speaker 1: bit similar. You know. Growing up in Houston, my dad
- 22:58Speaker 1: had a construction company and so we you I grew
- 23:01Speaker 1: up in the family business doing stuff with our hands
- 23:03Speaker 1: all the time, you know, uh, restoring cars and building
- 23:07Speaker 1: model rockets and just all sorts of hands on just
- 23:10Speaker 1: building stuff. You know, I absolutely loved it. Went away.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I got a degree in finance. Um, I'm not really
- 23:16Speaker 1: sure why I did that. Did that and you know,
- 23:21Speaker 1: I was working in finance for about ten years or
- 23:23Speaker 1: so and worked for a number of big asset managers
- 23:27Speaker 1: and had great stable careers there, but there was just
- 23:31Speaker 1: that teeth missing right of of building things, and that
- 23:35Speaker 1: entrepreneurial bug and entrepreneurial spirit just kind of wasn't there. Okay,
- 23:40Speaker 1: when is it? When are you going to have the
- 23:41Speaker 1: first Javish boards paddleboard raced in awestome texts? You know,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I don't know if we will do a race. That's
- 23:50Speaker 1: something that we thought about. What we have done a
- 23:53Speaker 1: good bit of that's been a win. When Um, that
- 23:56Speaker 1: I appreciate personally is uh tying our else to charitable
- 24:01Speaker 1: events and causes Um, even a loaning boards out for
- 24:06Speaker 1: you know he've done some river clean up things here,
- 24:09Speaker 1: or donating a customized board. Um. Like I said, we
- 24:13Speaker 1: were with the Maui Jam invitation excuse me basketball tournament
- 24:18Speaker 1: in Hawaii. Um, and you know we donated some boards
- 24:22Speaker 1: to that cause and got a little bit of ESPN
- 24:24Speaker 1: coverage and um. You know, I was able to meet J.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Billis and hang out with Bill Walton and that sort
- 24:29Speaker 1: of stuff, which is is great because we raised you know,
- 24:32Speaker 1: thirty thou knowledge from the Maui Food Bank. But it's
- 24:34Speaker 1: also great for Jarvis Boards because Smiths he just throws
- 24:44Speaker 1: out names, not listening. The power of the relationship. J.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Billis is the college basketball voice for ESPN. Bill Walton
- 24:55Speaker 1: in eighteen seventy seven lead Portland Trail Baylors to the
- 24:59Speaker 1: NBA Championship and also led the Boston Celtics to an
- 25:03Speaker 1: NBA championship and it's an NBA Hall of Famer he is. Yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 1: And again he was just so down the earth and
- 25:13Speaker 1: so cool. You know, he met with him in the ESPN,
- 25:16Speaker 1: came into fel them and all that stuff, and I
- 25:18Speaker 1: probably spent a good fifty minutes just chatting with him
- 25:22Speaker 1: like you know anybody else? Um and uh yeah, just
- 25:26Speaker 1: a cool guy. You're a cool guy, Tony. I'm gonna
- 25:29Speaker 1: tell you a cool guy. You're down to earth and
- 25:31Speaker 1: I love being able to promote you. I love to
- 25:33Speaker 1: people let you know how big you are and how
- 25:35Speaker 1: brand friendly you are because of the fact that I
- 25:38Speaker 1: appreciate it coming on my show Money Make Conversation. That's
- 25:40Speaker 1: what's all about. Giving the opportunity for young entrepreneurs or
- 25:43Speaker 1: established entrepreneurs, and you an established entrepreneur uh brand that
- 25:48Speaker 1: is now trying to grow outside of your circle and
- 25:50Speaker 1: also trying to broke that the wall of minorities can
- 25:54Speaker 1: only do this and breaking stereotype. I really respect you
- 25:56Speaker 1: for that. I really respect the fact and proud of
- 25:59Speaker 1: the fact you from Houston, Texas. Acre's home. They may
- 26:02Speaker 1: keep winning, Okay, I appreciate it. Man. I was looking
- 26:05Speaker 1: for a better way to check in on our house
- 26:07Speaker 1: while I was at work and a friend recommended Blink.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I was skeptical, but decided to give it a shot,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and I bought a Blink camera system. With our last
- 26:14Speaker 1: security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we
- 26:18Speaker 1: couldn't get out of my bad, but our Blink system
- 26:21Speaker 1: is different. Their motion activated cameras that work inside and outside,
- 26:24Speaker 1: their wire free, easy to set up, and they run
- 26:26Speaker 1: on two lithium batteries that last up to two years.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Total peace of mind and Blink camera system started under
- 26:32Speaker 1: eighty bucks with no subscriptions. We were on vacation and
- 26:35Speaker 1: I gotten to learn of my smartphone that motion was
- 26:37Speaker 1: detected at our front door. I checked my Blink app
- 26:40Speaker 1: and I saw it was just my cool new device
- 26:42Speaker 1: being delivered. Hey, we agreed no new devices except Blink.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Just kidding, not kidding. With Blink camera systems starting under
- 26:49Speaker 1: eighty bucks, home security just got easier. Go to Blink
- 26:53Speaker 1: Protected dot com s, Slash Secure, blink protect dot com,
- 26:57Speaker 1: Slash Secure, blink Protect dot Com. Slash Secure. Blink is
- 27:02Speaker 1: an Amazon company and it works with Alexa. Hey, this
- 27:05Speaker 1: is Tasha Evans and I'd love to eat a great
- 27:07Speaker 1: restaurants and more than that, I love great desserts. So
- 27:10Speaker 1: does Rashan McDonald. Check out his new website. That's www.

- 28:06Speaker 1: You know, just just just really an amazing person. She's

- 28:14Speaker 1: Amazing Grace Conservatory. She's well known for her role as
- 28:18Speaker 1: Devisti sports manager Tasha Mack on the c W n

- 28:46Speaker 1: d Annual Show. She's a multi hosting person means that
- 28:49Speaker 1: she's been doing this before because she understands understands the
- 28:53Speaker 1: value of multiple strings of income. Please, welcome to my show,
- 28:57Speaker 1: Wendy Riquel Robertson on Fire. You gotta put that with
- 29:07Speaker 1: you all fire? And how's my my best friend doing?
- 29:10Speaker 1: How's my best friend you? Oh, buddy, I am great,
- 29:14Speaker 1: I am great. I'm blessed, I am blessed. I'm excited
- 29:17Speaker 1: for you. I was just listening to your podcasts and
- 29:20Speaker 1: everything and I'm about to enable. It's just because we
- 29:23Speaker 1: all need those conversations. I'm so good. Well, you know
- 29:26Speaker 1: the thing about it is that the only bad point
- 29:28Speaker 1: about our relationship is that I cannot get down to
- 29:31Speaker 1: l A or get over to l A to see
- 29:33Speaker 1: one of your shows that you put on with the kid,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and she just in me videos of them going, Please come,
- 29:40Speaker 1: Mr McDonald. But you you have been so supportive and
- 29:47Speaker 1: you have poured into so many trains of the young
- 29:49Speaker 1: people at Amazing Grace Conservatory, and I just want you
- 29:53Speaker 1: to be there just to see the harvest season, you know.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And that's what I call it. I feel like it's
- 29:58Speaker 1: the harvest season right now because spent twenty two years
- 30:02Speaker 1: and you know, the kids are doing phenomenal things. I'm like,
- 30:05Speaker 1: are you freaking kidding me? Really? Yeah, I have been there,
- 30:09Speaker 1: We have been there, and you know how I feel
- 30:13Speaker 1: about what you do for those young people are what
- 30:16Speaker 1: I feel or my wife always has been a firm
- 30:20Speaker 1: believer and be writing those checks. There's never any hesitation
- 30:25Speaker 1: and because we just believe, and it's an amazing just
- 30:28Speaker 1: telling people. Tell everybody about the amazing Grace Conservatory. Wow. Well,
- 30:34Speaker 1: twenty two years ago, my best friend and nine Tracy Coley,
- 30:36Speaker 1: he's an Atlanta native, but we co founded a performing
- 30:41Speaker 1: arts that is now evolved into Digital and Media Arts
- 30:45Speaker 1: Conservatory for youth and young adults at ages five to
- 30:48Speaker 1: eighteen to come in and express themselves to music, dance, acting. Uh,
- 30:54Speaker 1: we're doing our podcast now, we're starting podcasts and video
- 30:57Speaker 1: blogs and um, we're doing in short films and we
- 31:01Speaker 1: are just giving youth a platform to have a voice,
- 31:04Speaker 1: to express themselves in a non judgmental environment. And we
- 31:07Speaker 1: use the arts as a life changing platform because it's
- 31:12Speaker 1: saving lives. You know, we're in South Central and there's
- 31:14Speaker 1: so much that's going on, but we have so much
- 31:17Speaker 1: talent that's out there and we're giving them the visibility
- 31:21Speaker 1: and the you know, a way where they could just
- 31:24Speaker 1: beat themselves. So many of them are getting bullied and
- 31:26Speaker 1: ostracized and you know we've got gang crosses were going crazy,
- 31:30Speaker 1: losing their minds. So it's just it's a safe space
- 31:33Speaker 1: where artists that are at risk or emerging artists that
- 31:37Speaker 1: have a platform. You know, we do independent nights where
- 31:41Speaker 1: you know, they cover jam together with their music. So
- 31:44Speaker 1: it's like the Black Mickey Mouse Club, it really is.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And it's not just limited to black, you know, we're
- 31:53Speaker 1: we're expanding that as well. So, um, it's it's so
- 31:58Speaker 1: much to define amazing and Grace Conservatory. But I'll just
- 32:01Speaker 1: start the thing about it is that just just me champion,
- 32:08Speaker 1: just me talk about just the changing lives apart the
- 32:12Speaker 1: part about and she knows it's all love. She knows
- 32:16Speaker 1: that for twenty or two years, I've yet to be
- 32:19Speaker 1: to an event, but it is yet yet it has
- 32:22Speaker 1: not made me hesitateing no right in the check. So
- 32:25Speaker 1: that means that I believe and what she does and
- 32:28Speaker 1: she knows, you know you know what Sean make goal
- 32:31Speaker 1: Na for Sean. Back then, it really wasn't there the right, check.
- 32:34Speaker 1: But I wrote them, Okay, she knows my wife. My
- 32:39Speaker 1: wife gotta love us Windy here, you know, because of
- 32:42Speaker 1: the fact that you know, we we know, we we
- 32:44Speaker 1: go through life and you know, we're still trying to
- 32:46Speaker 1: figure out just a writer. But I met her on
- 32:49Speaker 1: Steve Harper's first sitcom with Me and the Boys on ABC.
- 32:52Speaker 1: That's how we met. And uh, and so that a
- 32:57Speaker 1: long time ago, and so and so thirty year that
- 33:02Speaker 1: was a long time time. That's a long time ago.
- 33:04Speaker 1: And so with that being said that that means that
- 33:07Speaker 1: the passion of what we have and changing people's lives,
- 33:11Speaker 1: you know, resonates in her personally. Now let's talk about
- 33:14Speaker 1: because you said it's kind of like the Disney you know,
- 33:16Speaker 1: the mouse Mickey Mouse Club. Tell us about something that
- 33:18Speaker 1: talent that walked through them doors. Wow. You know, we've
- 33:23Speaker 1: we've been fortunate to afford into lives of um. Well,
- 33:26Speaker 1: Easa raised the big one right now, you know, and
- 33:30Speaker 1: she's doing all kinds of things and developing and producing
- 33:33Speaker 1: and acting and and all of that. But but what
- 33:35Speaker 1: was interesting when was there josas Wap she um she
- 33:40Speaker 1: was one of the quiet ones, you know, that was
- 33:43Speaker 1: the background you know, and I guess was just taking
- 33:46Speaker 1: it all in and you know, wow, to see what
- 33:49Speaker 1: she is doing now and to have been a part
- 33:52Speaker 1: of that. We can't take all the credits, but she
- 33:55Speaker 1: raised our doors. You know. Aston Sanders, he was in
- 33:58Speaker 1: Moonlight and Equalizer to you and now he's attaining Plan
- 34:02Speaker 1: series and shooting in New York and he's poured back
- 34:05Speaker 1: into a GC and he's given us the first scholarship
- 34:08Speaker 1: fund that's going to be in his name. About that
- 34:10Speaker 1: young man, that young man that played the young teenager
- 34:14Speaker 1: in Equaliz. There's always pulling up his pants every show.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And he was also his a native fun he played
- 34:25Speaker 1: Bigger Thomas h He is so hot, he's on fire.
- 34:29Speaker 1: He's he is on fire. He was at the gal
- 34:35Speaker 1: of this year. Yeah, you're fire to make gallant. I'm
- 34:38Speaker 1: just telling every every every show he does, he's pulling
- 34:41Speaker 1: up his pants because you know, his skin is a
- 34:43Speaker 1: to pick, you know, so if you put pants on
- 34:45Speaker 1: him right, they're gonna fall. He got a naturally sagging booty.
- 34:49Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, ain't got no but but
- 34:52Speaker 1: you know what I will give to him? Why is
- 34:54Speaker 1: he the Louis Batton Stella Accartney. He is the yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 1: he it is the model for all of those lines, yes,
- 35:02Speaker 1: the headlines. So yeah, don't put up your pants and
- 35:08Speaker 1: I love it. I love him, Yeah, I love him.
- 35:10Speaker 1: You know, you know he's again again. You mentioned two
- 35:14Speaker 1: names that are just natural, naturally talented people that uh
- 35:18Speaker 1: that that I think that is popular because you know,
- 35:20Speaker 1: when you start trying to get an authentic look, they
- 35:23Speaker 1: have it, you know, because I'm saying is that Hollywood
- 35:25Speaker 1: has always been like, got to look a certain way,
- 35:27Speaker 1: you know, overly handsome people, only well built people, or
- 35:31Speaker 1: people feels should be on calendars and stuff. And now
- 35:34Speaker 1: they're going to people who are just regular every day
- 35:37Speaker 1: people that we work with, that we go to if
- 35:39Speaker 1: we're going to a fast food restaurants. And these are
- 35:42Speaker 1: the people who, guess what, are resonating with the viewers
- 35:46Speaker 1: right exactly because they can see themselves, you know what
- 35:50Speaker 1: I mean. So there's something that I guess it's not
- 35:52Speaker 1: only relatable, but it's like wow, okay, it's three dimensionality now,
- 35:57Speaker 1: but there still is an acting style correct that they
- 36:02Speaker 1: want from you, right because you know you you you
- 36:05Speaker 1: know you have you have a versatile platform or different
- 36:08Speaker 1: roles you play. So you come in and and that's
- 36:12Speaker 1: that's that's an incredible testament to why you keep working.
- 36:15Speaker 1: You keep working for a region and so so now
- 36:18Speaker 1: you have this role and you know, it's kind of
- 36:20Speaker 1: like a soap opera, not not to dated format, but
- 36:23Speaker 1: it's still a style because I've seen her work and
- 36:25Speaker 1: I love the way she sells a lot of projects
- 36:28Speaker 1: on this this type of style. Or you just with
- 36:31Speaker 1: just you and you just built your character based on
- 36:34Speaker 1: being a seasoned actress. Wow, thank you. You know, I
- 36:39Speaker 1: don't want to say it's it's not a soap opera
- 36:42Speaker 1: or a soap opera style. What it is. It goes
- 36:45Speaker 1: back to that three dimensionality and I was talking about
- 36:48Speaker 1: and these characters being so crafted for real, they're really
- 36:52Speaker 1: crafted like we would get a script because we wouldn't
- 36:55Speaker 1: know and then you show up the table reading it side.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Oh my god, Okay, this is where I gotta go.
- 37:00Speaker 1: So it really made us call on every single emotion
- 37:04Speaker 1: into the core of who we are and to representing
- 37:08Speaker 1: people because we all have a past. And the show
- 37:12Speaker 1: was sought in a lot of flashbacks. You know, he
- 37:15Speaker 1: becomes her character. Um, it's a recurring character. So it's
- 37:19Speaker 1: kind of told through her eyes and flashbacks, but how
- 37:23Speaker 1: it brings us all to get there, or how it
- 37:26Speaker 1: brings us all apart. So it's an evolving, it's an unraveling,
- 37:31Speaker 1: it's an unlayering, but it's also holding it together, putting
- 37:34Speaker 1: on that face because I guess, well, we're the you know,
- 37:36Speaker 1: we're the bomb hotel. You know, I've got guests, we're
- 37:39Speaker 1: doing this, that and the other. But you know, internally
- 37:41Speaker 1: we're kind of falling apart in a lot of ways,
- 37:43Speaker 1: but keeping it together. So it's that inner struggle, it's
- 37:47Speaker 1: that outer struggle to hold it together and keep up
- 37:49Speaker 1: that to thought. So it's a lot of moving pieces
- 37:52Speaker 1: that I mean, it really pulled with the heart strength.
- 37:55Speaker 1: But at the same time, it's kind of you know,
- 37:58Speaker 1: it's funny, it's sexy, it's it's a little you know,
- 38:02Speaker 1: all over the place. I really haven't seen anything like
- 38:04Speaker 1: that on t V in a minute. So you know
- 38:10Speaker 1: how it is going to be hotel. It's beautiful, it's beautiful,
- 38:18Speaker 1: you know just how it shot. Now they that hotel setting,
- 38:21Speaker 1: and so with that being is in that hotel setting,
- 38:23Speaker 1: we're getting they celebrity you know, kind of like checking
- 38:26Speaker 1: into the hotel being themselves, or it's just keeping it
- 38:30Speaker 1: to scripted. Uh, It's it's pretty scripted. They didn't do
- 38:34Speaker 1: the stunt casting, which I'm really excited about, which makes
- 38:38Speaker 1: it even more believably because it doesn't take you out
- 38:41Speaker 1: of that round right here. It's in Miami. Now, everybody
- 38:43Speaker 1: go to Miami. We do have no go ahead. Everybody
- 38:47Speaker 1: come to Miami. So it's believable that your hotel can
- 38:50Speaker 1: have a d Wade show up, can't have a you know,
- 38:53Speaker 1: any anybody of credibility show up down that shoot the
- 38:56Speaker 1: movie or television show or down there on vacation of
- 38:59Speaker 1: getting the way. So it's interesting. I just think that
- 39:02Speaker 1: long term. First of all, it's a great concept. Congratulations
- 39:05Speaker 1: that being a part of this series. It's called the
- 39:08Speaker 1: Grand Hotel. Uh. Premiers January seven, June seventeenth, on a Monday,

- 39:37Speaker 1: but I'm really excited. This has been like my seventh year,
- 39:42Speaker 1: uh not consistently, but throughout the time, and I've just
- 39:47Speaker 1: really really really developed a connection not only with this
- 39:50Speaker 1: particular audience, but this particular genre. Music has always been,
- 39:55Speaker 1: you know, in affinitative for me, and gospel music has
- 39:58Speaker 1: really always fed us old completely. So we have a
- 40:02Speaker 1: good time and we turned up and when I say,
- 40:04Speaker 1: some of the best in the hottest gospel artists around
- 40:09Speaker 1: the nation and the world take the stage. And this
- 40:13Speaker 1: year it is sponsored by Askin Pride and it was
- 40:17Speaker 1: formerly the All State Gospel Past. So we've been in Chicago,
- 40:21Speaker 1: We've been in Atlanta, but Dayton, Ohio is the home
- 40:25Speaker 1: of Dr Cartwright, who is been the executive producer j seventeen.

- 40:31Speaker 1: Grand Hotel Julee twenty second. You're gonna be hosting another
- 40:35Speaker 1: television show that's gonna be through our syndication African Pride

- 40:44Speaker 1: your own fire. Please understand that get in front of
- 40:50Speaker 1: all that, let everybody know that it doesn't matter this journey.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Did you own the success story that you're telling? The
- 40:57Speaker 1: changing lives that that happens will be who work hard
- 41:01Speaker 1: for it, who deserve it and should be blessed to
- 41:04Speaker 1: tell the world. Body, don't forget. June seventeen, you see
- 41:08Speaker 1: on ABC and they should be in Dane, Ohio sponsored
- 41:12Speaker 1: by African Pride the Gospel super Fest TV hosted by
- 41:16Speaker 1: multiple returnee. That's the word I'm making up, Returnee. When
- 41:20Speaker 1: you would care around, Wendy, I love you. I was
- 41:28Speaker 1: looking for a better way to check in on our
- 41:29Speaker 1: house while I was at work and a friend recommended Blink.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I was skeptical but decided to give it a shot,
- 41:35Speaker 1: and I bought a Blink camera system. With our last
- 41:37Speaker 1: security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we
- 41:41Speaker 1: couldn't get out of my bad. But our Blink system
- 41:44Speaker 1: is different. Their motion activated cameras that work inside and outside,
- 41:47Speaker 1: their wire free, easy to set up, and they run
- 41:49Speaker 1: on two lithium batteries that last up to two years.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Total peace of mind. And Blink camera system started under
- 41:55Speaker 1: eighty bucks with no subscriptions. We were on vacation and
- 41:58Speaker 1: I gotten to learn of my smartphone. The motion was
- 42:00Speaker 1: detected at our front door. I checked my Blink app
- 42:03Speaker 1: and I saw it was just my cool new device
- 42:05Speaker 1: being delivered. Hey, we agreed no new devices except Blink.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Just kidding, not kidding. With Blink camera systems starting under
- 42:12Speaker 1: eighty bucks, home security just got easier. Go to Blink
- 42:15Speaker 1: protected dot Com, slash Secure, blink Protect dot Com, slash Secure,
- 42:21Speaker 1: blink Protect dot Com slash Secure. Blink is an Amazon

- 42:43Speaker 1: And I would look tell everybody if you got Alexa
- 42:45Speaker 1: at the house, just enable money making conversation. I'll start
- 42:48Speaker 1: talking at your house, in your bedroom and your kitchen,
- 42:51Speaker 1: and you back your party. I will start talking because
- 42:55Speaker 1: I heart podcast. I am also live in Atlanta, Georgia
- 42:59Speaker 1: on busy level Naty, But more importantly the guests that
- 43:01Speaker 1: I bring on the show, I attempt to get the
- 43:04Speaker 1: information that give me giving back to you in a reasonable,
- 43:09Speaker 1: recognizable or relatable manner, and that way you can change
- 43:13Speaker 1: your life, because it's about changing your life by providing
- 43:15Speaker 1: you information that will give you steps to achieve success.
- 43:19Speaker 1: My next guest is a successful person, big fan of
- 43:22Speaker 1: his of him and you know, you you watch people
- 43:25Speaker 1: on TV or you you kind of run into me
- 43:27Speaker 1: different events, and now this show allows me to actually
- 43:31Speaker 1: understand more about them. All I know is that that
- 43:34Speaker 1: side of them, and they may know a little bit
- 43:36Speaker 1: about by me. And then they follow him on LinkedIn.
- 43:39Speaker 1: He follows me on LinkedIn, so I get to see
- 43:41Speaker 1: different images of him that he posted because he's a
- 43:44Speaker 1: big family man, so I can see a lot of different, little,
- 43:47Speaker 1: different family shots to him. My next guest is a
- 43:49Speaker 1: Boston native and son of a licensed financial consultant mother
- 43:53Speaker 1: and then and the son of the legendary Boston Celtics
- 43:57Speaker 1: player Joe Joe White. He was still with the importance
- 44:01Speaker 1: of both sports and education throughout his childhood. He studied
- 44:04Speaker 1: political science, psychology, and theater at Dartmunt College. He's currently
- 44:10Speaker 1: starting in ambitions a new night time drama from producing
- 44:14Speaker 1: My man will Packard did two movies with him and
- 44:17Speaker 1: Oprah Winfrey on their own networks. It's premier in this June.
- 44:20Speaker 1: He's surrounded by the All Star casts and includes My Girl.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Robin Gibbons did uh a couple of sitcoms with her
- 44:26Speaker 1: on ABC as an actins That's My Girl from w
- 44:29Speaker 1: B and UPM. The series tells the tells the tale
- 44:32Speaker 1: of two high powered African American families that class and
- 44:35Speaker 1: connect professionally and romantically in the hot Atlanta. Please welcome
- 44:39Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversations, my man, Brian White, Hey, brother,
- 44:44Speaker 1: how are you? Thank you for having me on? Well,
- 44:46Speaker 1: first of all, thank you, man. Let's let's let's let's
- 44:48Speaker 1: talk about the wet right now. You're you? Are you?
- 44:51Speaker 1: You send at the house? You you do? You're acting
- 44:53Speaker 1: on some set? What's going on? Man's yeah, right now
- 44:57Speaker 1: I'm at the house. We were getting some work done. Um,
- 45:00Speaker 1: get ready to head out on the road and promote ambitions.
- 45:03Speaker 1: We're getting ready to go to Miami and breaking my
- 45:05Speaker 1: family with me. My wife's family, she's from Argentina, some
- 45:08Speaker 1: of her family lives in Miami. Sort of bringing my
- 45:11Speaker 1: daughter so they can meet them, and uh, you know,
- 45:14Speaker 1: just celebrate the life being good. Well, you know that's
- 45:19Speaker 1: that's that's that's a lot of good eating meat, meat, meat. Yeah, yeah,
- 45:25Speaker 1: a lot of seafood, a lot of seafood down there. Absolutely.
- 45:28Speaker 1: So when you when you start looking at your career,
- 45:30Speaker 1: all right, I'll go through your resume and I put
- 45:33Speaker 1: your father's name, Jojo White, and being a sports fan,
- 45:36Speaker 1: being a person of African American descent Roshan mcgaunt. Let's
- 45:41Speaker 1: meet Jojo White, watching him succeed in the climate of Boston,
- 45:47Speaker 1: watching him succeed on a basketball team like the Boston Celtics.
- 45:52Speaker 1: What was that like? Because for me it was important
- 45:54Speaker 1: because he was a successful African American succeeding against the
- 45:58Speaker 1: odds and succeeding and fronment that that that made me
- 46:02Speaker 1: feel that I can make it too. Yeah it uh,
- 46:06Speaker 1: I mean it was very educational. Uh. It was also
- 46:10Speaker 1: very challenging because my parents were divorced when I was four. Um,
- 46:14Speaker 1: I was close with my dad, but I lived and
- 46:15Speaker 1: was raised by my mom, and so you know, I
- 46:19Speaker 1: when I wasn't with my father, I was a witness,
- 46:23Speaker 1: you know, like a fan watching on TV the light
- 46:26Speaker 1: that was happening. But I was very aware of it
- 46:28Speaker 1: because he was not living in Boston. Uh in my
- 46:32Speaker 1: in my teen years, but he was always in the
- 46:33Speaker 1: Boston papers. Uh in my you know, when I was
- 46:36Speaker 1: eight nine and ten. Still he's still playing and uh,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you know, I'm aware of everything he's doing, but I
- 46:41Speaker 1: just can't see him as much. Um. You know, we
- 46:43Speaker 1: didn't have Uh we were texting all day the way
- 46:46Speaker 1: we are now. The word work. There was a video
- 46:48Speaker 1: so you know, if there was a window, you know,
- 46:50Speaker 1: half hour a day when Dad was free on the phone,
- 46:52Speaker 1: when I was free on a hardline phone and we
- 46:54Speaker 1: could talk, but that wasn't often. So UM, I learned
- 46:58Speaker 1: how this kind of lifestyle that I'm in now works
- 47:02Speaker 1: and how it can work better. Uh when with the
- 47:06Speaker 1: knowledge that I have of what you know can potentially
- 47:09Speaker 1: be done using technology to make sure that my daughter
- 47:11Speaker 1: h has an even better experience than maybe my siblings
- 47:15Speaker 1: and I did with the with the challenges of distance.
- 47:18Speaker 1: And by the same token, I learned all the great
- 47:22Speaker 1: ways my dad uh maneuvered through space. I learned through
- 47:26Speaker 1: his his lessons. He was in the sixty eight panem
- 47:29Speaker 1: Games and in the sixty nine Olympics, and that that's
- 47:33Speaker 1: the black Gobl Olympics movie. Glory Road is about that.
- 47:36Speaker 1: And you know, one of the things I learned from
- 47:38Speaker 1: my god's father read our back, um, you know, telling
- 47:41Speaker 1: my dad did not get on that podium. Don't uh
- 47:46Speaker 1: let your fans know about your politics and your opinions
- 47:49Speaker 1: before you've won them some trophies. Uh, they don't care.
- 47:53Speaker 1: That very clear to his number one draft pick in
- 47:56Speaker 1: in the nineteen sixty nine that that that's something that
- 47:59Speaker 1: he should not do. So you'll notice my father is
- 48:01Speaker 1: absent from the glove being raised celebration and instead of
- 48:06Speaker 1: celebrating with his teammates the moment and not making it
- 48:09Speaker 1: more than that. Um, and you know, recognizing his place
- 48:13Speaker 1: and his position and and always being happy to be
- 48:16Speaker 1: a part of something positive. It is an asset that
- 48:19Speaker 1: my father definitely demonstrated and passed on to me. Is
- 48:22Speaker 1: as something that's very valuable. Congratulations, because I guess what
- 48:26Speaker 1: what I thank you, you know, because I guess what
- 48:29Speaker 1: what individuals do when you have so few role models,
- 48:32Speaker 1: and you know, back then, you know, you have a
- 48:34Speaker 1: lot of role model because of social media, because the media,
- 48:36Speaker 1: because of the way the system works nowadays, that relationships
- 48:40Speaker 1: can be expanded on, and back then you were limited
- 48:43Speaker 1: on who you can talk to, limited on how you
- 48:45Speaker 1: can talk to him and where you can go. And
- 48:47Speaker 1: because of the fact that he was featured in a
- 48:49Speaker 1: market and Boston had a lot of success with a
- 48:51Speaker 1: lot of African American talent, but he was definitely in
- 48:54Speaker 1: a market that was perceived to be not favorable to
- 48:57Speaker 1: the African Americans and he exceeds very much so and
- 49:02Speaker 1: what he what I think that the lesson at the
- 49:04Speaker 1: you know, when I look at the when I reflect
- 49:06Speaker 1: from now in hindsight, what Dad didn't do is he
- 49:10Speaker 1: he didn't talk a lot. He walks off and carried
- 49:12Speaker 1: a big stick. And so in the beginning of his career,
- 49:15Speaker 1: he came in hungry to prove himself as worthy of
- 49:18Speaker 1: the number one draft picks and as soon as you know,
- 49:22Speaker 1: they got a ring um he started the Jojo White
- 49:25Speaker 1: Growth League and his foundations and started speaking tours and
- 49:29Speaker 1: started doing the things with red support at that point
- 49:32Speaker 1: that we're quote unquote appropriate and just what it taught
- 49:34Speaker 1: me was a lot with the social media era, where
- 49:37Speaker 1: everybody leads with how great they are when you know
- 49:40Speaker 1: they haven't really accomplished anything, and instead, instead of being great,
- 49:44Speaker 1: they're worried about being famous or being recognized for that greatness.
- 49:48Speaker 1: And and that's the opposite of the approach that I
- 49:51Speaker 1: was shown and demonstrated by my father, and and the
- 49:55Speaker 1: approach that I tried to apply to my craft currently,
- 49:58Speaker 1: which seems to be the opposite of you know, the
- 50:02Speaker 1: motto or the credo not real, not really, because every
- 50:06Speaker 1: role you play I watch, your credit or your career
- 50:08Speaker 1: is yours. Dignity is strength. Uh. You articulate, you're a
- 50:13Speaker 1: good looking guy. Uh, and you always come across as
- 50:16Speaker 1: a strong, a strong, independent person and no matter how
- 50:20Speaker 1: extreme your characters are. And uh, I just wanted to
- 50:23Speaker 1: I just wanted to talk about your father, and we're
- 50:25Speaker 1: gonna move on, but I want to just bring up
- 50:26Speaker 1: the fact that it was referencing his dad, the legendary
- 50:30Speaker 1: Boston Celtic star Jojo White, and how the impact he
- 50:33Speaker 1: played on the community as a player and also on
- 50:36Speaker 1: in his personal life. But more importantly, when I look
- 50:38Speaker 1: at your characters that you play now, it explains a
- 50:41Speaker 1: little bit about you, know, your your physicality. It also
- 50:44Speaker 1: explains your daring its you know, because one of the
- 50:46Speaker 1: favorite characters that you that I recently saw you play
- 50:50Speaker 1: was on Ray Donovan and uh, and how do you
- 50:56Speaker 1: prepare for a crazy character like that? I'll let you
- 51:01Speaker 1: in on a couple of secrets. David Hollander, Uh, the
- 51:04Speaker 1: creator of Ray Donovan. UH, gave me the opportunity in
- 51:07Speaker 1: season one to to join the show. And Uh. As
- 51:11Speaker 1: season one went on, we had a lot of fun
- 51:13Speaker 1: and he came to me and he said, hey, you
- 51:15Speaker 1: really seem to get the black comedy that is Ray
- 51:19Speaker 1: dout of it. And I said, that's how I saw it,
- 51:21Speaker 1: you know, when I made my audition tape. You know
- 51:23Speaker 1: it's it's it's very dark, but there's an underbelly of
- 51:27Speaker 1: humor um in a lot that they do as dark
- 51:30Speaker 1: as they get, you have to laugh at it. And
- 51:33Speaker 1: he goes, all right, exactly, so I have some things
- 51:35Speaker 1: in mind for season two and you know, just so,
- 51:39Speaker 1: are you open to play and to go with me
- 51:41Speaker 1: if I get pretty crazy? And I absolutely, Man, I'll
- 51:43Speaker 1: be a huckleberry. And uh. You know, he came back
- 51:46Speaker 1: to me over the summer and said, we don't have
- 51:48Speaker 1: a lot of He actually said this, he said, we
- 51:50Speaker 1: don't have a lot of writers of color on the
- 51:52Speaker 1: staff and they don't have any. And he said, we'd
- 51:55Speaker 1: like to you know, I would never uh be outlandish
- 52:00Speaker 1: as to try to create the dialogue for you and
- 52:02Speaker 1: this type of arc, and I'd like your input. I'd
- 52:05Speaker 1: like you to help us. And so we did a
- 52:08Speaker 1: table read with all six with six scripts at the
- 52:11Speaker 1: time you usually do one. And I got a chance
- 52:13Speaker 1: to read them and submit some some feedback, some basic feedback,
- 52:17Speaker 1: some thoughts to them that they then incorporated, uh to
- 52:21Speaker 1: help shape some of my dialogue. And it was really
- 52:24Speaker 1: an honor and a privilege that's you know, uncommon to
- 52:28Speaker 1: be involved at all. And it helped me prepare for
- 52:30Speaker 1: and be aware of what was to come and try
- 52:33Speaker 1: to help ground it a little bit more because it
- 52:35Speaker 1: was it was outlandish, but you know, Pooch and I
- 52:38Speaker 1: and Donald phase on coming out of season one, wanted
- 52:41Speaker 1: to try to take this and run with it and
- 52:44Speaker 1: make it this entertaining and as thought provoking and as conversational,
- 52:48Speaker 1: like a conversation inspiring as possible. So hopefully, you know,
- 52:52Speaker 1: it was it was taken with with all that laughed
- 52:54Speaker 1: with and and thought about, and uh, you know, feel
