- 0:24Speaker 1: Making Conversations Masterclass for the very first time. Jared and
- 0:27Speaker 1: Kierra Mason, how you doing? You get all that right?
- 0:32Speaker 1: They're like, get all that right, the names and the
- 0:34Speaker 1: paycing and all that, Kira. So that's what I'm saying.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I gotta get everything. Let me go through this end
- 0:41Speaker 1: be My name is Rashan, So I'm very particular by
- 0:44Speaker 1: people who say my name incorrectly. Okay, cool Tiara to Kiara.
- 0:51Speaker 1: So if I messed up in the process of I
- 0:53Speaker 1: was with Sean Seana Chiara eight years ago. This like
- 1:00Speaker 1: this relationship kind of started. What did you see? And
- 1:02Speaker 1: Mr Jared that kind of like blossom this whole MTM
- 1:07Speaker 1: business that you are, like have you started right before
- 1:10Speaker 1: covid and then it survived COVID and now we're two
- 1:14Speaker 1: talk to me. Yeah, laities first, Okay, So as far
- 1:19Speaker 1: as the company, we knew that we wanted to do
- 1:22Speaker 1: business together, but we never knew being marketing. So my
- 1:25Speaker 1: backgrounds as a social work and he is in sales
- 1:28Speaker 1: and us just documenting our journey on YouTube as family
- 1:32Speaker 1: bloggers documenting our pregnancy journey lended us a TV show
- 1:36Speaker 1: and we started getting brand partnerships and we're like, I
- 1:38Speaker 1: think we're pretty good at marketing. Let's do this for
- 1:41Speaker 1: other people. And that's what it leads to. I never
- 1:44Speaker 1: thought it would grow in this capacity, but he did.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He was a visionary of it all, and I think
- 1:50Speaker 1: this is definitely a money making conversations. Absolutely absolutely. It
- 1:54Speaker 1: was a lot of fun because the idea at the
- 1:56Speaker 1: time that Scarrett mentioned she has a bachelor's and masters
- 1:58Speaker 1: in social work, and I'm like, my background is in insurance.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So I was a licensed insurance broker in forty four states.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And as we're going through this different process, both of
- 2:06Speaker 1: our career paths were providing resources and solutions to clients
- 2:10Speaker 1: and need. But whatever that capacity was, but the common
- 2:14Speaker 1: denominator that we found was when they didn't have enough
- 2:16Speaker 1: money coming in, they couldn't afford those resources, so how
- 2:19Speaker 1: could we change that? And what I started getting invited
- 2:22Speaker 1: to for the agencies I work with was, hey, how
- 2:24Speaker 1: do we reposition our offer? How do we reposition our
- 2:27Speaker 1: brand to track more clients? Because even from the agency perspective,
- 2:31Speaker 1: they wanted more sales. So I started going into those meetings,
- 2:34Speaker 1: having those conversations and it just turned into so many
- 2:37Speaker 1: more things. So, as kare I mentioned, we started our
- 2:40Speaker 1: YouTube channel about six years ago and that just opened
- 2:43Speaker 1: a lot of doors. YouTube channel that means you became visual.
- 2:47Speaker 1: What was it? What did friends inspire you to do
- 2:50Speaker 1: the YouTube channel? You guys set down and said, you
- 2:52Speaker 1: know something. You know both look good looking, people were articulate,
- 2:56Speaker 1: we have personalities. You know that's the thing to do.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Now what made you guys go in to the YouTube business? Well,
- 3:04Speaker 1: I think it's it's a it's a funny story. I'm
- 3:06Speaker 1: gonna try to tell it fast. Let's tell no, no no, no,
- 3:09Speaker 1: we got time now, because you know I might stop you.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I might stop you. So I'll give you a little
- 3:14Speaker 1: bit of backstory. So, of course before college, obviously we
- 3:18Speaker 1: were not in college. So growing up, um, I actually
- 3:21Speaker 1: used to live in Japan for twelve years, and when
- 3:24Speaker 1: I came back from Japan, we moved to Chicago briefly
- 3:27Speaker 1: and came down to Florida started our college careers. This
- 3:30Speaker 1: was before Kia and I met, and everything that we've
- 3:33Speaker 1: done for at least my family's side and Kara's family
- 3:36Speaker 1: side separately, is very calpulated. So everybody's calculated steps. This
- 3:39Speaker 1: is where we're going, this is what we're doing. And
- 3:42Speaker 1: I met Kiara actually on my first day going to
- 3:45Speaker 1: this church. I was trying to visit to see my aunt.
- 3:48Speaker 1: She moved down from Chicago, and she was like, Hey,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I want to join this church, and I want to
- 3:52Speaker 1: do this. I wanna do that. I'm like, hey, we're
- 3:54Speaker 1: all new to Florida. We don't really know that many people.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Most of our families in Chicago, So I was like,
- 3:58Speaker 1: before you joined, at least me and my brothers come
- 4:00Speaker 1: and check out the place. So I walk in and
- 4:04Speaker 1: R's there, and I think it's an interesting story. I'll
- 4:08Speaker 1: probably say a little bit of that spice for later,
- 4:10Speaker 1: but spice spice church to spice, come on now. It was.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It was a lot of fun, but so I'll give
- 4:18Speaker 1: you the long story, short version of it. So I
- 4:20Speaker 1: saw on that first day and I just had this
- 4:22Speaker 1: feeling of that that she was going to be my wife.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Invited her out for a date. Three weeks later after
- 4:29Speaker 1: this date situation, we had a little dating window. We
- 4:31Speaker 1: had a three week engagement. Three weeks later we're married
- 4:34Speaker 1: and we've been married for nine years. Okay, so just
- 4:36Speaker 1: a little because you know you told fast now come
- 4:38Speaker 1: on that there was a lot of dates that were
- 4:42Speaker 1: very short window. Okay, you met her, you know, going
- 4:45Speaker 1: to church right that that he got that correct, yes,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and then three you said you she did you look
- 4:51Speaker 1: at him and say he was going to be your husband. Yes.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So on our first day, the first date, that's what
- 4:56Speaker 1: we missed was on our first date, we both told
- 4:59Speaker 1: each other that we were every one another. We literally
- 5:01Speaker 1: turned it around on our phones. But I would never
- 5:03Speaker 1: recommend that. I would never do that. I'm just not
- 5:05Speaker 1: that person. But I felt prompted to do it. I
- 5:08Speaker 1: really felt like he was my husband because I saw
- 5:10Speaker 1: so much of me and him felt like he was
- 5:12Speaker 1: a mail version of me. And so after our first day,
- 5:15Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, this is too good
- 5:17Speaker 1: to be true. My friends was like, I don't know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: you should be cautious, and then that started the hiatus
- 5:22Speaker 1: of our talking to one another. But when we reconvened, um,
- 5:26Speaker 1: he stopped talking, like he didn't say boy to me
- 5:28Speaker 1: at church one day, y'all, and I was like, what's
- 5:31Speaker 1: wrong with he had? If he has a girlfriend, just
- 5:33Speaker 1: let me know. And my friends like when you told
- 5:35Speaker 1: him you didn't like him. Nonetheless, I had a dream
- 5:37Speaker 1: that he was still my husband and that I wasn't
- 5:39Speaker 1: happy with it with the former relationship, and I knew
- 5:42Speaker 1: that he really was. So we reconvened, and then after
- 5:45Speaker 1: that three weeks we were engaged. In three weeks after that,
- 5:48Speaker 1: we were married. Okay, great, you engaged, you were married
- 5:52Speaker 1: three weeks. You know that's TV show stuff, you know,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it's just you know, that's you know, marriage and first
- 5:58Speaker 1: love at first sight. I don't you know it a
- 6:00Speaker 1: lot of reality jos rolling around with YouTube people in it,
- 6:02Speaker 1: but in fact, y'all at least y'all did three weeks
- 6:05Speaker 1: three weeks exactly right. So that's how we walked up
- 6:08Speaker 1: the show. It was like, what are y'all doing? Right?
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's just I said it fast because it really happened
- 6:14Speaker 1: fast and then what are you are doing? So we
- 6:16Speaker 1: started making videos this show our family, our lifestyle, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: that's where YouTube was born for us. Okay, cool, So
- 6:24Speaker 1: because you know I gotta get you see you know
- 6:26Speaker 1: I've read I thought this in your bio, which you
- 6:29Speaker 1: know you brought it up so quick in this conversation.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Now I'm I'm like I said, my wife. I met
- 6:37Speaker 1: her at eighty one. We married in eighty eight. Okay. So,
- 6:40Speaker 1: but I traveled a lot. You know, I was doing
- 6:42Speaker 1: stand up comedian. I was standing up gonna be the
- 6:45Speaker 1: next Hyde in Murphrey. So I was on the road
- 6:46Speaker 1: a lot. So now y'all met on the first dage.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You you know, you looked at one another that we
- 6:52Speaker 1: got a lot of things in common. I'm just trying
- 6:54Speaker 1: to get to the to the marriage part. Okay. So
- 6:57Speaker 1: first week, so we talk about three weeks. So first week,
- 7:01Speaker 1: second week, third week. What was this first week like together?
- 7:05Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, it was kind of like for me,
- 7:07Speaker 1: I was like, Wow, this is my person and this
- 7:11Speaker 1: is really happening for me because I knew in the
- 7:13Speaker 1: beginning of the year that I was going to be
- 7:14Speaker 1: a wife, even though in my single hood. But I
- 7:17Speaker 1: knew that I was going to be a wife. I
- 7:19Speaker 1: just didn't know who it was and who I thought
- 7:21Speaker 1: it was gonna be was not it. And so finally
- 7:24Speaker 1: being saying that, okay, we're gonna be together, it was like, okay,
- 7:28Speaker 1: well what's stopping us from just actually making it official?
- 7:31Speaker 1: But we were really happy? Okay, cool now Gerard Jared
- 7:36Speaker 1: keeping my apologize um second week she said she thought
- 7:41Speaker 1: she was gonna be somebody else. But now as you
- 7:44Speaker 1: second week, where are we at? What did you did
- 7:47Speaker 1: you drop her wing ring? Going on the second week?
- 7:49Speaker 1: When did the ring pop up? When you drop on
- 7:51Speaker 1: the knees? When it was? It was when did that happen? Okay,
- 7:54Speaker 1: so I'll be a little bit slower this time. Yeah,
- 7:59Speaker 1: when when you when you when you meet, you get
- 8:00Speaker 1: married in three weeks. You guys are little down sometimes.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So so especially this whole process was I I was
- 8:10Speaker 1: sitting there and I had I had my moment to
- 8:13Speaker 1: kind of sit on the back row, and I was like,
- 8:15Speaker 1: all right, cool. I saw her walking down the aisle.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I saw me at the hour receiving her walking down
- 8:19Speaker 1: the aisle. So that was that whole situation. So we
- 8:22Speaker 1: turn our phones around, as KR I mentioned, and there
- 8:26Speaker 1: was about what about six months roughly that she didn't
- 8:30Speaker 1: wanna have nothing to do with me. Say that was
- 8:33Speaker 1: after that first day, so it was a week and
- 8:36Speaker 1: then six months went by what she didn't want to
- 8:39Speaker 1: have anything to do with me. My whole situation during
- 8:41Speaker 1: that time was I was still seeing the vision of
- 8:45Speaker 1: the completed process, which is why I always talk about
- 8:47Speaker 1: Jared like the jury store, because she went to Jared
- 8:50Speaker 1: at the end. So I'm going through this whole process
- 8:55Speaker 1: and I'm like, Okay, well, if I see that this
- 8:58Speaker 1: is who I want to marry, we've already communicated that,
- 9:01Speaker 1: whether it's briefly a long term relationship, whatever situation is,
- 9:05Speaker 1: the idea is mutual. At this point, she decides to
- 9:09Speaker 1: not follow through with that, that's up on her. But
- 9:12Speaker 1: I still see myself as being married. I don't know
- 9:14Speaker 1: who's gonna be. She still sees herself as being married.
- 9:17Speaker 1: She's not sure who's going to be. But my initial
- 9:20Speaker 1: desire was support to be her. So I just stayed
- 9:23Speaker 1: in that safe zone of hey, how can I be
- 9:26Speaker 1: in the picture but not in the picture. So if
- 9:29Speaker 1: I found out she had a need, or if I
- 9:30Speaker 1: found out she was she was going to a venue
- 9:33Speaker 1: or doing something. I wouldn't always be at that place
- 9:36Speaker 1: other than church obviously, but it was like, Hey, if
- 9:40Speaker 1: I find out that y'all have a fundraiser, I guess
- 9:41Speaker 1: who's gonna give something. If I find out you'll have
- 9:44Speaker 1: a promotion, guess who's gonna sponsor something like, just be
- 9:47Speaker 1: in the room. So the number one goal was just
- 9:50Speaker 1: being in the room. So keeping that vision and head
- 9:52Speaker 1: of standing, head line of sight. So really just the story, right,
- 9:55Speaker 1: So really you met one week, then six months later,
- 9:59Speaker 1: there was no interaction. It was it was a little
- 10:02Speaker 1: like he would text me always at the right time,
- 10:05Speaker 1: like when I was down or whenever, just hey, checking
- 10:07Speaker 1: up on you. I'm like, oh, hey, I appreciate it.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And that was it, and I'm like, why does he
- 10:11Speaker 1: always text me at the right time? But nonetheless as
- 10:14Speaker 1: far as like going out and doing any things, no,
- 10:16Speaker 1: we didn't. Okay, cool, and then okay, so we'll be
- 10:18Speaker 1: right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Now let's return to Money Making Conversations master Class with
- 10:29Speaker 1: Rashan McDonald. There's a three week courtship. I'm assuming, right,
- 10:33Speaker 1: one week six month separation, then two weeks in the
- 10:36Speaker 1: second week, and then the third week you got married.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Is that correct? Yes, yes, yeah, weeks. She had this
- 10:46Speaker 1: dream and you can kind of talk about your dream
- 10:49Speaker 1: if you want. Yeah, So in the dream I was
- 10:52Speaker 1: after my roommate caught me out and she was like,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I thought you said you didn't like him, and I
- 10:56Speaker 1: was like, you know, I'm just so frustrated. Let me
- 10:58Speaker 1: go pray, and so I'm praying to God, Oh my God,
- 11:01Speaker 1: why do I feel this way? Why am I offended?
- 11:03Speaker 1: What's going on? And then he showed me the dream
- 11:05Speaker 1: of me being with Jared and my life was Philippiece
- 11:08Speaker 1: little Bliss. And then he showed me a vision with
- 11:11Speaker 1: my ex boyfriend, and I was still even more unhappier
- 11:14Speaker 1: than I already was with our relationship, and that's when
- 11:17Speaker 1: I knew it sealed the deal. So just coming back
- 11:20Speaker 1: to him and I was like, hey, do you still
- 11:22Speaker 1: feel the same way, And he tried to play a
- 11:23Speaker 1: little hard to get it first, but then we said yes.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So we said yes. So the first week was great,
- 11:29Speaker 1: just finally being on the same page. Second week was
- 11:32Speaker 1: I think you actually went to I think we said Hey, Dad,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I want to come chat with you, and you went
- 11:37Speaker 1: and ask my dad right now. So um, at that
- 11:39Speaker 1: point we actually had another date and it was like, Hey,
- 11:42Speaker 1: are we gonna do this or not. She's like, yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 1: we're gonna do this, all right. Cool. After I got
- 11:46Speaker 1: the green light, I'm in strategy mode. I'm a strategy
- 11:49Speaker 1: by nature, so all right, cool, So I'm going to strategy. Obviously,
- 11:52Speaker 1: I got to talk to dad, I got to talk
- 11:54Speaker 1: to pastor, and I talked to my mom, my dad,
- 11:56Speaker 1: the whole situation. So that's going through my head. Lined
- 11:59Speaker 1: up though, ducks in the row, and made the initial
- 12:02Speaker 1: appointment to everybody I had to meet, and then um,
- 12:05Speaker 1: after that it was go time. Right. Well, you know
- 12:08Speaker 1: it's interesting, you know because um, you know, I think
- 12:12Speaker 1: I feel when I look at your relationship, which is
- 12:14Speaker 1: a strong relationship, you know, because you're a couple that
- 12:18Speaker 1: are in business that basically laid you laid the groundwork
- 12:22Speaker 1: for building this relationship. You may have not dated for
- 12:25Speaker 1: six months, but you position yourself to show her value
- 12:29Speaker 1: but physically being there and emotionally, and that's that's how
- 12:34Speaker 1: you communicated to her. That's how you want her over
- 12:36Speaker 1: want her heart, and I think there's a lesson to
- 12:39Speaker 1: be learned there that, you know, people, you don't have
- 12:42Speaker 1: to technically uh when somebody's hard or when somebody's loved
- 12:47Speaker 1: by constantly being there, if you don't do anything to
- 12:51Speaker 1: encourage a positivity in your relationship. Because she said some
- 12:55Speaker 1: key things I think he said. He always called me
- 12:57Speaker 1: at the right time, He always said something he always had,
- 13:00Speaker 1: He always dropped knowledge on me that that was needed
- 13:02Speaker 1: for me to get to the next day. And I'm
- 13:04Speaker 1: sure she did the same thing for you. You know, now,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I had the coldest shoulder. She was not reaching out
- 13:11Speaker 1: to your boy at all. Okay, Okay, come on, now
- 13:16Speaker 1: he's saying that. He's saying that like that, but we
- 13:19Speaker 1: know you. You was receiving, as they said church, you
- 13:23Speaker 1: were receiving these blessings. Okay, how can you say that
- 13:26Speaker 1: you were giving him the colde shoulder and you were
- 13:28Speaker 1: receiving these blessings. No, it was true, like I really was.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Because I was just so frightened that this was too
- 13:36Speaker 1: good to be true for me. So I didn't want
- 13:38Speaker 1: to be let down once again. So the safest way
- 13:40Speaker 1: to do that was to separate my emotions to separate
- 13:44Speaker 1: you know that from me, so that I can just
- 13:46Speaker 1: continue living my life until I figure out is this
- 13:48Speaker 1: what I really want? Right? Okay? So I literally mean
- 13:52Speaker 1: the cold shoulder, Like after thank you, that was it.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Then the month would go by, it was like, hey,
- 13:59Speaker 1: how's how did they go? And hope all as well? Boom,
- 14:02Speaker 1: all as well? Thanks? Two months we go by literal
- 14:06Speaker 1: shoulder right, Well, you know, I commend you, brother, you know,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you know that's like wanting to cross the floor for
- 14:12Speaker 1: a dance flow, you know, the best song is being played.
- 14:14Speaker 1: And she says she's moving in a chair, right, we'd
- 14:18Speaker 1: like to day No, okay, I gotta walk right back.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I gotta walk crossly. But you're still moving in your
- 14:25Speaker 1: chair though. Okay, So but that leads to a relationship
- 14:30Speaker 1: now that thank god you guys connected. Thank god y'all
- 14:33Speaker 1: got married and then y'all became business owners. How did
- 14:37Speaker 1: the business aspect develop into this? Because first of all,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you had to court her, then she had to Then
- 14:45Speaker 1: she had to believe that you overcome the ankst that
- 14:48Speaker 1: you were you were not going to be another mistake.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Now y'all in business together, how does that work? And
- 14:55Speaker 1: do you carera have any doubts about in your mind
- 15:01Speaker 1: when you talk about this business relationship. What what knocks
- 15:03Speaker 1: out the doubts? I think after once I was finally
- 15:08Speaker 1: on the page that like God gave me that piece
- 15:10Speaker 1: that he was my husband, it's still to do. I
- 15:13Speaker 1: never had a question if he was my husband. I
- 15:14Speaker 1: never had a question about um, was I going in
- 15:18Speaker 1: the right direction? Never again. Now we got in business,
- 15:21Speaker 1: and I was like, I've never been a business owner before,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and so I have to take your leadership in a
- 15:27Speaker 1: different way. And so still we are very big on
- 15:30Speaker 1: being unified before we move forward with anything, and that
- 15:33Speaker 1: I think has been a key to our marriage. So
- 15:35Speaker 1: we will make sure that we're on the same page
- 15:37Speaker 1: before we move forward with anything. But honestly, when it
- 15:40Speaker 1: comes to the day to day or in business, we
- 15:42Speaker 1: had to really define our roles, like he really is
- 15:45Speaker 1: I even though I own majority of the business, he
- 15:48Speaker 1: is actually a CEO, and I'm a CEO by nature.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I'm very operational, I'm very methodical, I'm very service oriented.
- 15:55Speaker 1: He is as well. But we recognized after a while
- 15:58Speaker 1: when we were kind of bumping heads a little bit
- 16:00Speaker 1: that well, okay, you're really a visionary let me take
- 16:02Speaker 1: your lead in that regard, and I had to settle
- 16:05Speaker 1: my own you know, issues with that too. Yeah. Well,
- 16:08Speaker 1: you know he's a visionary. He saw you and you
- 16:10Speaker 1: didn't see him. Okay, but you already got that Jared
- 16:15Speaker 1: is a visionary. Okay. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I got blind zone. I got blind zone. Let's talk
- 16:22Speaker 1: about your business. Let's talk about digits your business Made
- 16:24Speaker 1: to maximize? Why that name, Garrett uh made to maximize?
- 16:30Speaker 1: We always had something empty and it was meet the
- 16:33Speaker 1: Mason's on YouTube, MTM Creative, Imagy and co Um, which
- 16:36Speaker 1: was the original consulting and marketing agency, but made to
- 16:40Speaker 1: maximize really was birth from a scriptural perspective, It's like,
- 16:43Speaker 1: we're called to be fruitful, called to multiply, have dominion,
- 16:46Speaker 1: to do all these different things. But then as we're
- 16:48Speaker 1: going to do this, that's literally the track workord that
- 16:51Speaker 1: we've left in every avenue, whether it was social work,
- 16:53Speaker 1: where it was sales, whether it was insurance, we're maximizing
- 16:56Speaker 1: everybody's opportunity. So when it came into the business world,
- 17:00Speaker 1: it's like, hey, if you're going to invest a hundred
- 17:02Speaker 1: dollars or a hundred thousand, or whatever case may be.
- 17:05Speaker 1: In your business, how do you maximize the return on
- 17:07Speaker 1: that investment. And that's what we believe that we're supposed
- 17:11Speaker 1: to do is help people maximize that. And I love
- 17:13Speaker 1: to use the example of a dentist. Um If you
- 17:16Speaker 1: have a dentist and they're the best oral surgeon in
- 17:18Speaker 1: the in the world, their job is to help people
- 17:21Speaker 1: with their teeth. They don't have time or they shouldn't
- 17:24Speaker 1: prioritize their time to post that stuff on the website,
- 17:27Speaker 1: to make an Instagram, to make a LinkedIn and TikTok
- 17:30Speaker 1: if they do both. One job is worth a hundred
- 17:33Speaker 1: dollars an hour. One job is worth ten thousand dollars
- 17:35Speaker 1: an hour. So why don't you focus on your ten
- 17:37Speaker 1: thousand things and let us focus on the hundred or
- 17:40Speaker 1: the thousand, and that will bring in more of your
- 17:42Speaker 1: ten thousand dollar clients. So if you can leverage our
- 17:45Speaker 1: expertise in the bandwidth of our team to say, hey,
- 17:49Speaker 1: when I do all these things by myself, I'm only
- 17:51Speaker 1: going this fast. But when I get this leverage point
- 17:54Speaker 1: of vehicle, I can accelerate. And that's what we help
- 17:57Speaker 1: business owners do. Right. But the thing that is that
- 18:00Speaker 1: you you your your business is broken down and I
- 18:03Speaker 1: see it's as social media, marketing and manage media and
- 18:06Speaker 1: photography and vieography, copyrighting, graphic design, website design. It started
- 18:11Speaker 1: with the two of you. Okay, how did you make
- 18:14Speaker 1: the decision that, Okay, this is the company that we
- 18:17Speaker 1: want because everybody you know, you have a skill set,
- 18:19Speaker 1: like you said, insurance, yours with social and so now
- 18:23Speaker 1: you've got a company and then you start interviewing people.
- 18:26Speaker 1: How did you go through that process? Because a lot
- 18:28Speaker 1: of people are doing this, so I'm not saying doing
- 18:30Speaker 1: exactly what you do, but they have an idea and
- 18:32Speaker 1: then they have to put the idea together and then
- 18:34Speaker 1: you guys are making joint decisions, which can be more difficult.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Instead of me going I was just going down the road,
- 18:40Speaker 1: go I want that building. I want to hire that person.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I like those curtains, I like that that carpet. You know,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I want to pay that person that the amount of money.
- 18:47Speaker 1: How just explained to my my listeners and viewers. How
- 18:51Speaker 1: does working as a couple. What are the pluses and
- 18:54Speaker 1: the minuses of it? Because it does work? Yeah, oh
- 18:58Speaker 1: yeah absolutely. I would say when we started the company.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I think we're both shared in the vision that this
- 19:03Speaker 1: was the agency model, even though it was just starting
- 19:06Speaker 1: with us, So we knew that it wasn't just gonna
- 19:08Speaker 1: be us by ourselves. And so once we reached a
- 19:11Speaker 1: place so we're named, we max our capacity. Um, we
- 19:14Speaker 1: weren't excelling like we used to, or maybe we were
- 19:17Speaker 1: making little mistakes that we didn't before. We're like, oh,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I think we need to hire more people to come in.
- 19:21Speaker 1: So we had contractors come in and we gave people opportunities.
- 19:25Speaker 1: But then we started to train people the MTM way
- 19:28Speaker 1: and then grow our business that way, and that was
- 19:30Speaker 1: a bit more successful. But as far as like the
- 19:33Speaker 1: pros and cons of us being in business together, I
- 19:37Speaker 1: think we're always together and we love that. But we're
- 19:41Speaker 1: always together, you know what I mean. There's so much
- 19:45Speaker 1: you said, man sitting next to you, you gave him
- 19:47Speaker 1: a coach. I don't get this, Jared. You know she
- 19:50Speaker 1: now she can't get enough for you and was just
- 19:53Speaker 1: giving you to the curb with the with the oh
- 19:56Speaker 1: thank you because I you know that's the thing you
- 19:58Speaker 1: know when you interview, because you guys have ended few
- 20:00Speaker 1: people on your show you know, you know the worst
- 20:02Speaker 1: thing in the world where people give you yes no answers.
- 20:04Speaker 1: How are you doing? Did they fine? You? Go? Okay?
- 20:07Speaker 1: The teammates left here, so she was getting those yes
- 20:10Speaker 1: or no relationship responses. Now on my show, I can't
- 20:15Speaker 1: get enough of him. I work with him all the
- 20:17Speaker 1: time and he just she just smiling and just giggling
- 20:20Speaker 1: and everything. What did you do, brother, what did you do?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Tell all the men out in the world, what did
- 20:25Speaker 1: you do to turn the head of this fantastic woman
- 20:29Speaker 1: in your direction? So the top two things, thank you,
- 20:34Speaker 1: but I'm gonna leave the third one out. Y'all gonna
- 20:37Speaker 1: you know, one day. But Steve Hardy gave us all
- 20:39Speaker 1: the answers supposedly, but he didn't tell us how to
- 20:42Speaker 1: deal with a cold shoulder for six months. So the
- 20:45Speaker 1: number one thing is to stay committed to your original
- 20:49Speaker 1: intention envision. I like that. I like that because if
- 20:52Speaker 1: they feel like your attention is only on them or
- 20:55Speaker 1: you can deviate because of what they do, then it's like,
- 20:59Speaker 1: hold up, who's driving. So if I'm still heading towards
- 21:03Speaker 1: my vision, I'm still heading towards my goal. And number two,
- 21:06Speaker 1: getting results towards that who doesn't want to have a
- 21:10Speaker 1: championship winning team in their corner? Right, So that's what
- 21:15Speaker 1: I created, and my atmosphere was if I keep winning
- 21:18Speaker 1: in this direction, what she knows her destiny is lined
- 21:21Speaker 1: up to the things that she's acclimated towards her that
- 21:24Speaker 1: she likes. She's gonna see me because either I'm be
- 21:26Speaker 1: on the stage, I'm gonna put somebody on the stage.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna create an atmosphere. So either coming to my
- 21:30Speaker 1: show with me or you come to my showing the
- 21:32Speaker 1: audience by yourself. So you're gonna you're gonna be over
- 21:35Speaker 1: here either way. So at the end of the day,
- 21:38Speaker 1: my top two things are staying committed to your original
- 21:40Speaker 1: goal and get results along the way. And because of that,
- 21:44Speaker 1: it's like, hey, why would I not want to be
- 21:46Speaker 1: on a winning team? And I think that's one of
- 21:49Speaker 1: The third one is really then the best one. I'm
- 21:52Speaker 1: gonna leave that one later. But this for the book
- 21:54Speaker 1: right one day, six months. You know how, when they
- 22:00Speaker 1: say no, keep going, We'll be right back with more
- 22:03Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now let's return
- 22:10Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald's. This is
- 22:15Speaker 1: fun and this is an enlightening uh. But it's also
- 22:18Speaker 1: about businesses also about relationships, you know, and I think
- 22:21Speaker 1: that's important that people understand that even if you're not
- 22:24Speaker 1: in a personal relationship as you two are, it is
- 22:27Speaker 1: about communication and that's the key, not only communication between
- 22:31Speaker 1: each other, but your staff and also your clients. Can
- 22:34Speaker 1: you give us some advised Kiara, I said the right, correct,
- 22:38Speaker 1: Ye want to make sure you have closed the show right,
- 22:42Speaker 1: deviating and Jared. Communication first with your clients, and then
- 22:46Speaker 1: second with each other, and then third with your employees,
- 22:49Speaker 1: starting with you, Jared okay um. So I would definitely
- 22:53Speaker 1: say communication with the clients are key. The reason why
- 22:56Speaker 1: I say that's key is I'm big on relationships. That's
- 23:00Speaker 1: you can see if I've already talked about the Code
- 23:02Speaker 1: Shorter situation with my wife. Right. So having a marketing agency,
- 23:06Speaker 1: the whole world is giving you a cold shoulder because
- 23:08Speaker 1: they don't know you exist. They don't know your voice,
- 23:10Speaker 1: they don't know your vision, they don't know your values,
- 23:12Speaker 1: they don't know any of that stuff. So you automatically
- 23:15Speaker 1: come to the stage, unknown, unincluded, uninvited. So when you're
- 23:20Speaker 1: putting out a marketing campaign, you're making a website, you're
- 23:23Speaker 1: doing it LinkedIn, TikTok, whatever case may be. They don't
- 23:26Speaker 1: want to like your posts, they don't want to engage
- 23:28Speaker 1: in your content. You're getting the code shoulder. However, when
- 23:31Speaker 1: you tie that back to UM, your long term vision
- 23:34Speaker 1: which you want to create and getting results along the way,
- 23:37Speaker 1: then it opens up everyone's awareness. And I'll give you
- 23:40Speaker 1: a quick example. We have one of our neighbors that
- 23:42Speaker 1: lives about seven houses down before you move, and UM,
- 23:47Speaker 1: we did a free consultation for him, long study short UM.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Before we started the UH the marketing agency, we had
- 23:54Speaker 1: a consulting deal that we were always doing in offering that.
- 23:57Speaker 1: That's how I started finding the knee in the insurance
- 24:00Speaker 1: business that will bring us down. Hey, how will we
- 24:02Speaker 1: market this? All right, cool, let's do that. That turns
- 24:05Speaker 1: into a multimillion dollar opportunity. I'm like, what's my percentage? Oh,
- 24:09Speaker 1: you work in sales, you don't get percentage of the marketing.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, well let me start doing this on
- 24:13Speaker 1: my own. Is. I told my neighbor we had a
- 24:17Speaker 1: three step process, and I was like, hey, we're gonna
- 24:20Speaker 1: work on number one, work on number two, working number three.
- 24:23Speaker 1: He immediately went to implement. In twenty eight days, he
- 24:26Speaker 1: made thirty thou dollars and the next thirty days he
- 24:31Speaker 1: made another ninety thousand. He was like, this stuff, This
- 24:33Speaker 1: plan that you gave me works. And the reason why
- 24:36Speaker 1: I say that is that ties back to communication. Is
- 24:38Speaker 1: I was able to sit down and understand his voice,
- 24:41Speaker 1: his visiting, his value. He put him in this step
- 24:44Speaker 1: to where he can maximize that. And you have to listen. First.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Most communication is listening, and that's what I learned to do.
- 24:51Speaker 1: And then we have to turn in that to a
- 24:53Speaker 1: process that they could actually have as a predictable step. Next,
- 24:57Speaker 1: what would you say about that? Um? I would say
- 24:59Speaker 1: for me, when it comes communicating with clients, is all
- 25:01Speaker 1: about setting expectation. So we can never assume that our
- 25:05Speaker 1: clients know us, know what we stand for, and know
- 25:09Speaker 1: just the processes that we have in our business. So
- 25:11Speaker 1: I really love to let them know, hey, this is
- 25:14Speaker 1: what we're gonna do for you, this is how we're
- 25:16Speaker 1: gonna do it. These are our business hours, this is
- 25:18Speaker 1: how you can expect me to communicate with you. And
- 25:21Speaker 1: I found that when we set the expectation up front.
- 25:24Speaker 1: We don't get you know, issues later on about you
- 25:27Speaker 1: didn't text me back, or you didn't call me that
- 25:29Speaker 1: we'll text. You don't really text our clients, but you
- 25:31Speaker 1: didn't call me back. Um, during this time, well, you
- 25:34Speaker 1: already knew an advance that this is our these are
- 25:36Speaker 1: business hours, and we really stick to that because we're
- 25:39Speaker 1: family preneurers. So this is we do all these things together.
- 25:42Speaker 1: We have to set those boundaries. So that's big for
- 25:44Speaker 1: me setting those expectations with clients. Talk about relationship communication
- 25:49Speaker 1: through the relationship, UM, I would say that's pivotal. UM.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I believe our level of of intimate conversations overflows and
- 25:58Speaker 1: every other aspect of our life. So it makes it
- 26:01Speaker 1: easier to communicate effectively with our clients, but with our
- 26:04Speaker 1: team because we've gone through those rough patches and back
- 26:07Speaker 1: to the coach or the example, I'm still communicating stuff
- 26:10Speaker 1: even though she's not responded, So how can I still
- 26:13Speaker 1: get this message delivered even if you don't want to
- 26:16Speaker 1: receive the mail. So that same process of going through
- 26:20Speaker 1: that and now that she does want to be around
- 26:22Speaker 1: and that she does want to hear everything, that is
- 26:25Speaker 1: a is a wonderful change, right, But being intentional about
- 26:28Speaker 1: going through that process and saying, hey, I want to
- 26:31Speaker 1: talk with you so I can actually hear your heart
- 26:34Speaker 1: and not miss something. And this is one of the
- 26:37Speaker 1: pivotal things. Is a lot of times people only try
- 26:40Speaker 1: to give their opinion in their direction without including another person.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So how we set up our business was intentionally. KR
- 26:46Speaker 1: has fifty and I have the reason why. That was
- 26:50Speaker 1: important to me because I wanted to communicate from the
- 26:53Speaker 1: front even though this was a vision that I had.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I want you so invested in the vision and you
- 26:59Speaker 1: to prop it's so much from the vision that even
- 27:01Speaker 1: though we're gonna make a ton of money here, I'm
- 27:04Speaker 1: putting us lead ownership right, and that gives a totally
- 27:08Speaker 1: different level of buying. And when you have that level
- 27:11Speaker 1: of buying, now I don't have to only be the
- 27:13Speaker 1: one that's passionate about the suit right hold on, I
- 27:18Speaker 1: was always passing it once I got on board, once
- 27:20Speaker 1: you got on board time, but you give should be passion.
- 27:28Speaker 1: The last one that I want to talk about, which
- 27:30Speaker 1: is really the key, your employees. And that's where so
- 27:32Speaker 1: many people fail, you know, because sometimes when you have
- 27:36Speaker 1: employees you can be too personal. You can be more
- 27:39Speaker 1: concerned about there with their their rent being paid, their gas,
- 27:45Speaker 1: their fields, but not concerned about the work they're doing.
- 27:50Speaker 1: You gotta be able to build that wall of separation. Look,
- 27:53Speaker 1: I want to win two. I cannot personalize your issues,
- 27:56Speaker 1: nor could I be consumed by your personal issues as owners.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Please tell people how I want to hear from both
- 28:04Speaker 1: of you guys, because I know y'all deal with them differently.
- 28:07Speaker 1: How do y'all deal with employees and separately and then together? Yes,
- 28:12Speaker 1: that is such a great question. And can I say
- 28:14Speaker 1: we made a number of mistakes along the way. Um,
- 28:17Speaker 1: one of our mentors had to set us inside and say, hey,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you don't owe anyone an opportunity. I don't owe anyone
- 28:23Speaker 1: an opportunity. It is a it's an opportunity for them
- 28:26Speaker 1: to work with you, Like you don't have to give
- 28:29Speaker 1: them these things. You built this company yourself. And then
- 28:32Speaker 1: once I recognize that I'm a wealth builder, I have
- 28:36Speaker 1: We've created this thing together. We don't have to allow
- 28:39Speaker 1: anyone within our company. So we have made decisions before
- 28:43Speaker 1: It's like, well, I just want to help someone out
- 28:44Speaker 1: because we know that they're in an unfortunate situation. I
- 28:47Speaker 1: think they have a good skill set, will work, and
- 28:49Speaker 1: then we recognize that, oh, that wasn't the best thing.
- 28:52Speaker 1: But because we are big on relationships, we let them know, hey,
- 28:56Speaker 1: before we even start this, our relationship is more important
- 28:58Speaker 1: than the money. So we would still able to have great,
- 29:01Speaker 1: great relationships with those people that are no longer with
- 29:04Speaker 1: the company, but moving forward, we had to let them
- 29:07Speaker 1: know that, hey, you're going to see a different side
- 29:09Speaker 1: of me. I know we were sitting whatever before, but
- 29:12Speaker 1: now I'm c oh and this is what we're doing X, Y,
- 29:15Speaker 1: and Z, and knowing that, hey, we know how to
- 29:18Speaker 1: create boundaries and relationships, but I still follow up, would
- 29:21Speaker 1: I still love you and we can have conversations outside
- 29:24Speaker 1: of business afterwards. It kind of creates a great balance.
- 29:27Speaker 1: But before we weren't as great with that. I would say,
- 29:30Speaker 1: that's my part, what about you? I carry the same
- 29:34Speaker 1: passion that as we just displayed in different ways. So
- 29:37Speaker 1: I'm big on philosophy and strategy. So my philosophy and
- 29:41Speaker 1: connection with our our team members and everybody on our
- 29:44Speaker 1: team is a three three C element. It's contact, consistently
- 29:48Speaker 1: conversion to what you alluded to, A little bit earlier,
- 29:51Speaker 1: but on the personal level, I always talked about skill
- 29:54Speaker 1: set structures that equals your income set. And what I
- 29:56Speaker 1: mean by that is this, if you have a skill,
- 29:58Speaker 1: let's say you're photographer, fantastic, you can shoot photos, and
- 30:03Speaker 1: with you being able to shoot, edit, do this and
- 30:05Speaker 1: do that, do you have a structure around it on
- 30:07Speaker 1: your own to where now we can expect a certain
- 30:10Speaker 1: amount of photos of certain of my images, certain amount
- 30:12Speaker 1: of quality, which denotes a certain amount of pay. And
- 30:16Speaker 1: no matter what that skill set is, my mindset for
- 30:19Speaker 1: everybody on the team and around the team is if
- 30:22Speaker 1: we can help you maximize your skill, we can help
- 30:25Speaker 1: you maximize your structure. That means we can help you
- 30:28Speaker 1: maximize your income. So I was just given um an
- 30:31Speaker 1: example to one of our team members yesterday, and one
- 30:34Speaker 1: of our photographers started at an hour with our tea,
- 30:39Speaker 1: and then I was like, hey, you have an eye,
- 30:42Speaker 1: but we got to fix this. Let's change your editing,
- 30:44Speaker 1: let's do this, let's do that, and let's put some
- 30:46Speaker 1: structure behind that. And once he captured that skill set,
- 30:49Speaker 1: we bumped him up to fifty dollars in a hundred,
- 30:52Speaker 1: then one fifty and then you keep going from there,
- 30:54Speaker 1: and it's like, hold on, why would you invest so
- 30:57Speaker 1: much in this one person on this group of people.
- 31:00Speaker 1: It's because as they're expanding in their exposure and they're
- 31:03Speaker 1: expanding in their expertise, our team is expanding in exposure.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Our team isn't isn't expanding in expertise. And the beautiful
- 31:10Speaker 1: thing is about that is somebody might see that one
- 31:13Speaker 1: team member out somewhere and they're like, oh, you do this.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I saw you put this on your Instagram, I saw
- 31:18Speaker 1: you put this on your TikTok or your LinkedIn. Where
- 31:21Speaker 1: are you doing that at? Then they bring it back
- 31:23Speaker 1: to maybe maxippize, and then that grows all of us.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Now it's like, hold on, I never even would have
- 31:28Speaker 1: got here unless you told me how to maximize my
- 31:30Speaker 1: skill set, unless you show me how to maximize my structure.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And now all of our income grows together. So it's
- 31:36Speaker 1: really a group thing. Awesome. I appreciate you both coming
- 31:40Speaker 1: on Money Making Conversation master class has been of a
- 31:43Speaker 1: journey of emotion, of of how to talk as a relationship,
- 31:49Speaker 1: how to talk as a business, how to build a business,
- 31:52Speaker 1: but more important communication. That's my biggest takeaway in this
- 31:56Speaker 1: interview that I'm doing with both of you guys, But again,
- 31:58Speaker 1: much success to make to maximize the company that will
- 32:01Speaker 1: start in twin and nineteen. And Kiara and Jared Mason,
- 32:06Speaker 1: I wish you much less much success down in sam
- 32:08Speaker 1: for Florida. And if you ever need to talk to me,
- 32:10Speaker 1: look everybody. They do social media management and marketing. They
- 32:14Speaker 1: do photography, videography, copyrighting, and graphic design and website. And
- 32:18Speaker 1: you don't You do not have to be in sam
- 32:20Speaker 1: for Florida to use their services. They're available online through
- 32:24Speaker 1: social media contacting them. They're very talented and more importantly,
- 32:28Speaker 1: they know how to communicate. I cannot emphasize that enough.
