Latest / Life For Toledo / Following God - Truly 2 Kings 18:6
Transcript
- 0:00I'm thinking today of 2 Kings 18 .6, where it
- 0:03says, For he clung to the Lord, he did not depart
- 0:05from following him, but kept his commandments,
- 0:08which the Lord had commanded Moses. For all my
- 0:10errors, here is a description I would love for
- 0:13myself. I doubt I'd be able to claim it, and
- 0:15I think it would be a bit arrogant to conclude
- 0:16it. I really like the phrase, he did not depart
- 0:19from following him, and I see that he kept his
- 0:21commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses,
- 0:23is basically a way of saying that he had continued
- 0:26to follow God. Even if we weren't clear about
- 0:28how loving... him is doing what he has commanded,
- 0:30I think we could be clear about how following
- 0:33him is doing what he has commanded. Clinging
- 0:35is a bit more intimate or insistent or depicts
- 0:38overcoming interference that would drag him away.
- 0:41Sticking close to God, as close as God will draw,
- 0:44is everything. But abiding in Christ is about
- 0:47something more than obedience. He has made us
- 0:49family. It is only correct that children of God
- 0:52should stick close, cling to him, be found following
- 0:54his instructions. Of course, there will be alternatives,
- 0:57but they should should pale by comparison even
- 1:00as we walk out our daily push and pull. He has
- 1:03now made us able as sons and daughters. Persecution
- 1:06and temptation, desires overcome, and an infinite
- 1:10variety of events gives us infinite opportunity
- 1:13to give glory to God and to cling to him. And
- 1:16we shall unto the end. Until Jesus comes again,
- 1:19may we glorify the Lord with our every decision.
- 1:22And wherever we fail, may we repent and turn
- 1:24back to God and give him glory. God bless you.
