- 0:00The B -Side in boxing. B -Side shit. B -Side.
- 0:04B -Side. And the B -Side. You got a B -Side.
- 0:06The B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. The B
- 0:10-Side thing. This is the B -Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:22Timer's going. Alright. motherfucking boxing
- 0:27b -sides back up in your ears, boys. I am joined
- 0:31by the comrades. Josh, Saul, how goes it? Welcome
- 0:37back. We are back. Still working on becoming
- 0:40Chinese now. Let me see here. We got a little
- 0:49bit of MMA to share. Just... Extending the hand
- 0:55of friendship to our fellows over at Ultimate
- 0:58FN Casuals. UFC 324 on January 24th. There were
- 1:05a few fights on here that are, if you're into
- 1:09MMA, worth checking out. Let's see. Atteba Gautier
- 1:13got a UD over Andrei Pulayev. Not quite what
- 1:19you would hope from the prospect Gautier. but
- 1:24nonetheless a dominant performance. Umar Nurmagomedov
- 1:30pitched a shutout over Davis and Figueredo. Figueredo
- 1:37turned in a spirited performance, but it's pretty
- 1:39obvious he's on his way out the door. Blah, blah,
- 1:46blah. Justin Gaethje beats the shit out of Paddy
- 1:49Pimblitt. Boy, oh boy. I actually made a comment
- 1:56about it last week. I don't know if I can include
- 1:58it here, but I was saying that that was the best
- 2:01fight on the card because it was like a boxing
- 2:04fight. Stand up. Yep. Also very nice because
- 2:09Pimplet lost. Yeah. That too. Always helps. He's
- 2:16like a Saudi American. Or not a Saudi American.
- 2:18Saudi American. That's crazy. That's fucking
- 2:21crazy. Hey, guys. We're filming this late at
- 2:25night. I'm fucking tired. Yeah, my dog literally
- 2:30just fucking shit everywhere. My girlfriend just
- 2:32broke up with me because of what Frost said.
- 2:36Because of what I said. Because you made her
- 2:38watch Zufa. No, no. But no, my dog did shit everywhere,
- 2:43though. Uh, fuck. Yeah, Pimblitt drops the ball.
- 2:54Gaethje, he's an Arizona guy, like me, so I'm
- 3:01happy to see him win, but he's not long for the
- 3:04sport at this point, so it's curious what he
- 3:08does from here. If you want more MMA talk, Ultimate
- 3:14effing casuals. Wherever you're listening to
- 3:16this, you can find that too. Into some boxing
- 3:20news. Callum Smith versus David Morrell. The
- 3:26interim WBO light heavyweight title is going
- 3:32to purse bid. What are we thinking here? Callum
- 3:38Smith, he's at the tail end of his career, but
- 3:41he has... shown life. And David Morrell is David
- 3:48Morrell. It's a good fight. Yeah, it's a good
- 3:52fight. It's a good fight. One thing I will say
- 3:55is it's definitely not going to be on a PBC card.
- 3:59No. For sure. Because if PBC wanted it, they
- 4:01would have... They would have bid. Yeah, they
- 4:04would have bid. So I think it's going to end
- 4:06up being on a ring card. Or hosted by Madstone,
- 4:11but we'll see. Man, I would prefer to shit in
- 4:16my fucking pants than have the Saudis win these
- 4:20bits, man. Yeah. We'll see what happens with
- 4:25it, though. But, in other news, Christian Mbili
- 4:34has been elevated to full champion. for the WBC
- 4:38at 168. His next opponent is likely to be Lester
- 4:45Martinez. It's not certain, but it is definitely
- 4:49going in that direction. What are we thinking?
- 4:52Christian Mbili, has he done enough to earn this?
- 4:57The draw with Martinez does, to me, raise questions
- 5:03of whether he rates the full title. But I guess
- 5:08the rematch would settle those questions. What
- 5:11do you guys think? Yes. I just want to see Lester
- 5:14get it. Agree. It'd be so satisfying for Lester
- 5:20to just get that shit. The first Pro Box champion
- 5:25of the year? Of the year, yeah. Pro Box revolution
- 5:29here. This is going to lead up to a Pro Box pay
- 5:33-per -view. No, they wouldn't do that. They're
- 5:38not that. I don't think they're those type of
- 5:40guys. No, not at all. Not at all. Oslis Iglesias
- 5:50versus Pavel Siljagin for the IBF 168 title.
- 5:58They had to go down the list quite a ways to
- 6:02find somebody willing to fight. iglesias uh i
- 6:08think we should do a b -sides sit down watch
- 6:12a little bit of tape on pavel and make a determination
- 6:17of when iglesias is gonna fucking ice him or
- 6:23if because i'm gonna be honest i i'm not getting
- 6:26to know who the hell this guy is the contrarian
- 6:30No, I'm being honest. Who is this guy? That's
- 6:33what the... That's what the tape... Have you
- 6:36seen his fights? The tape studies. Yes, actually.
- 6:38I got convinced by the Discord to go watch his
- 6:40fights. No, I'm talking about the other guy,
- 6:43Pavel. Oh, no. I thought you were talking about
- 6:45Iglesias, and I'm like, you could see it. Oh,
- 6:48my God. Oh, no, no. I've seen Iglesias so many
- 6:50times. I'm talking about Pavel. Who is this guy?
- 6:54Listen, man. He's the guy... who has the balls
- 6:58to fight Iglesias, so he gets my respect. 100%,
- 7:02yeah. I mean, the thing is that I know is that
- 7:05all the guys that skipped him know who he is,
- 7:08but they're afraid to fight him. High risk, low
- 7:13reward type of fights. Of course you're going
- 7:16to get a... I'm assuming this guy sounds Russian.
- 7:18He is. Or some sort of Eastern European. Yeah,
- 7:21so of course they're going to fight. I... From
- 7:25what I've seen from Iglesias, he's going to win,
- 7:26but I've got to see Pavel fight before I can
- 7:28make a determination. But the fact that I haven't
- 7:32heard about him that much kind of tells me already
- 7:35what I need to know. We'll see. That's what I
- 7:41mean when I say we should do a B -sides tape
- 7:44study. Tape study. And we're not deciding if
- 7:51Iglesias is going to win. i mean like get the
- 7:55fuck out of here uh if the canelo and munguia
- 7:59and callum simpson are fucking turning it down
- 8:03my man sitting at rank like six or seven let's
- 8:09get fucking real here but it's it would be good
- 8:13to like place some bets where where does the
- 8:17finish happen Round four. Four to six. Four to
- 8:32six is fair. I wonder if Iglesias is going to
- 8:37do tape study. Does he even need to at this point?
- 8:41Well, he should. He's a fighter. Yeah, he should.
- 8:48Moving on. I know that the world has been waiting.
- 8:52And waiting to hear news on Oscar Valdez. He's
- 8:58a promotional free agent. The way I put it to
- 9:04Shanada was this is probably a good time to get
- 9:10off the ship. The top rank ship. Things are not
- 9:18going well right now. Not a bad place for a guy
- 9:25like Oscar Valdez to go. But in better news,
- 9:31I suppose, on the Wood -Warrington rematch card
- 9:37on February 21st, David Allen has a fight signed.
- 9:46Ishmael Davis, I believe, is going to be defending
- 9:49his British and Commonwealth titles. Why those
- 9:55are separate at this point, I don't know. And
- 10:00Molly McCann, Meatball Molly, is also going to
- 10:05be fighting. So, isn't that a good time? Juan
- 10:16Francisco Estrada versus Tenshin Nasukawa. All
- 10:21signs are pointing to April. Do you think there's
- 10:29a fighter that Shinada hates more than Tenshin
- 10:32Nasukawa? Probably Shakur Stevenson. You think
- 10:38so? Yeah, she's taking on the T .O. role. True.
- 10:46I mean, she's not going to tell you much more
- 10:47about this fight than we can. We can just give
- 10:51you the basic Estrada has a pretty good chance
- 10:53of winning. But she can go into detail why. So
- 10:59you guys should go to Boxing4Dark and listen
- 11:01to the gang there. Yeah. As much as I love...
- 11:08Estrada's been one of my favorites for quite
- 11:11some time. He is at the tail end of his career,
- 11:16moving up to 118. I am also a bit of a Tension
- 11:23fan. No denying that. But, yeah, Tension is at
- 11:30the place where he's supposed to beat guys like
- 11:35Estrada. So, I don't know. I guess that's the
- 11:41best you can make of it. All right. That's all
- 11:48I got on the news front. Into the recaps. Friday,
- 11:53January 23rd. The premiere of Zufa Boxing on
- 12:02Paramount+. Boy, this was certainly a card. It
- 12:09was slop. It was slop. Yeah, it wasn't great.
- 12:18I will say on the undercard, Troy Nash is a solid
- 12:25prospect. He got a UD over Jacob Ramos, which
- 12:30was a dominant performance that you would expect
- 12:34from a 5 -0 fighter at the six -round level.
- 12:41Robert Merriweather is another, what I thought
- 12:48was a good prospect, that had quite a bit of
- 12:52trouble with Cesar Correa. Another six -round
- 12:59fighter and didn't do, he didn't get the job
- 13:05done as you would expect from like a grade A
- 13:09prospect. Unfortunately. Moving up the bill.
- 13:17Not a whole lot going on. 360 Promotions is the
- 13:25direct feeder into Zufa. If you weren't familiar,
- 13:31360 Promotions, they broadcast on UFC Fight Pass.
- 13:38So for their guys. To come over to Zufa. No surprise.
- 13:44Omar Trinidad. Got a late stoppage. In the 10th.
- 13:51Looked the same way he always has. Which is not
- 13:54very good. And. Yeah. In the main. Callum Walsh.
- 14:05UD. Over Carlos Acampo. He UD'd against the guy
- 14:13that Spence knocked out. That Tim Zu knocked
- 14:17out to, I believe. And Fulgurum beat the shit
- 14:21out of him for the full distance. Exactly. So,
- 14:27this should tell you the level that Zufa's guy
- 14:31is going to be. This whole fucking card is crazy.
- 14:35Max Kellerman talking about how he's been waiting
- 14:37for this shit his whole life. To watch Callum
- 14:39Walsh. You would eat a fucking Errol Spence Jr.
- 14:43victim. Gotta be kidding me. I mean, I don't
- 14:49know. The whole thing just felt dull. You know?
- 14:52All of it. The only good thing I can say about
- 14:56this card was its camera. Okay? That's it. The
- 15:03production quality. Exactly. But even then, it's
- 15:06like they had the cards that were being put up.
- 15:1033 and 3? What the fuck is that? It was excellent.
- 15:1533 to 3. Perfect. I mean, hey. They gotta get
- 15:22their shit together. All I gotta say. The statistics
- 15:25that they were measuring were attacks, counters.
- 15:31What? Like, counters, okay. I get it. I can dig
- 15:38it. But attacks, what? Yeah, that shit don't
- 15:46make sense. It does, but it makes sense in like
- 15:51a UFC context, you know? But in boxing, I mean,
- 15:55you know what I mean? But what do they classify
- 15:58as an attack? Do they classify pity patter as
- 16:01an attack? You know what I mean? Not a jab, not
- 16:05a hook, no power punches. Fucking attack in general.
- 16:10The fuck? Callum Walsh did not show us anything
- 16:15we didn't already know about him. He has light
- 16:20hands. And with Zufa moving him up to full middleweight,
- 16:25because they don't do the middle ground divisions.
- 16:31Allegedly, yes. They move them up to full middleweight.
- 16:36And he looked like hot fucking garbage. He was
- 16:41never that good to begin with. Just to think,
- 16:44guys. It was half a decade ago that PBC gave
- 16:48us both Charlo's on the same night for free.
- 16:52If only we knew what we had then. People complained,
- 16:58by the way. I'll tell you this. I think Dana
- 17:02White's like Moses. For 360 promotions. I mean,
- 17:07for the guys that... He's a savior. Oh, yeah,
- 17:09for them, yeah. Yeah, because, I mean, these
- 17:11guys at 360 Promotions weren't going to be worth
- 17:13shit. Because it's... I mean, no, I'm not trying
- 17:17to disrespect the fighters themselves, but the
- 17:18actual promotional company is... Was worth dick.
- 17:22Was worth dick. But then Dana White came and
- 17:25led them to the Holy Land of being one of the
- 17:28only... The only other promoter that's on an
- 17:34actual... broadcasting they got broadcasting
- 17:38rights in a sense not TV but on a streaming platform
- 17:43that's not the AZN truth be told and clearly
- 17:52because we are here sitting here recording this
- 17:55fucking podcast to begin with we are we are among
- 18:01the 1 % Of the hardcore fans, right? I have spent
- 18:10time, more time than I care to admit, watching
- 18:14360 Promotions fucking events. The only fighter
- 18:21of any of their roster that I care about is Mizuki
- 18:27Hiruta, the women's fighter. That she just does
- 18:33these really crazy outfits. Yes, her outfit,
- 18:37she is dripped up. Actually, I will say that.
- 18:39She has fucking excellent walkout outfits, fight
- 18:42outfits. She looks fucking immaculate. And that
- 18:46is the peak of 360 promotions. I don't expect
- 18:53Zufa to get into women's fights anytime soon.
- 18:59Personally, I don't expect that they're going
- 19:01to do that. So what happens with Mizuki? I don't
- 19:08know. I hope she finds a better home than fucking
- 19:11Zufa. MVP has been taking care of women's fighters
- 19:18really well since their inception. Overall, for...
- 19:27Like you said, the production quality was fantastic.
- 19:35The cameras were high quality. They used great
- 19:42camera angles and everything. That was about
- 19:45as good as this whole show got. The panel was
- 19:50fucking atrocious. The fighters themselves...
- 19:56the attire really fucking bugs me that they're
- 20:01limited to just picking the color of their trunks
- 20:07and that's it. There was talk in Discord as we
- 20:17were watching this fucking car crash about gloves.
- 20:24And there were interesting questions about what's
- 20:29going to happen with fighters picking their gloves.
- 20:33Because there were guys picking Venom, Grants,
- 20:37Kletos, all the usual suspects. And at the end,
- 20:45Carlos Ocampo comes out with Zufa branded gloves.
- 20:50And that to me... is a telling sign of what to
- 20:56expect. No sponsorships on the trunks either.
- 21:01Yeah, exactly. All you pick is the color. That's
- 21:04all you get. That's brutal. Sounds like a dictatorship
- 21:10to me. Aside from the obvious implications of
- 21:14controlling a fighter's finances down to who's
- 21:18allowed to give them money, it makes for a much
- 21:22worse product to just not let these guys express
- 21:26themselves. Because it's not like you're... It's
- 21:29such a different sport to normal sports where
- 21:32you follow a team or a league even. You follow
- 21:36the individuals. You're a fan of the individuals.
- 21:39And not letting them express themselves, even
- 21:41in these basic ways, is very damaging to the
- 21:44product. Guaranteed if Callum Walsh wanted some
- 21:50fucking red, white, and blue shit for some fucking
- 21:58reason, even though he's not even American. Oh,
- 22:00like American -branded stuff. Yeah, they wanted
- 22:02American -branded shit. Yeah, they'll let him
- 22:04do that, but I doubt it. And it's not that I
- 22:11expect or I... I don't expect that every fighter
- 22:16is going to do the type of shit that Mizuki does.
- 22:20Like, that is one end of the extreme. But this
- 22:25is the opposite end where, like, who... These
- 22:29are faceless fucking people coming out to punch
- 22:34each other. There's no personality here. Even
- 22:40their walkout attire was Zufa branded. uh yeah
- 22:45they're they're going they're trying to ufc our
- 22:49boxing and i don't like it yeah no i'm honestly
- 22:54the fact that they're trying to control fighters
- 22:57trunks is ridiculous i mean i feel like a good
- 23:00way to get the sponsors is to do it on their
- 23:04uh on the ropes if they want to go another route
- 23:07but i mean i don't know if they're going to want
- 23:10to show that you know from the back But that's
- 23:16ridiculous how they don't want a fighter's freedom.
- 23:18You know, the fucking ring is full of sponsors.
- 23:21Why can't the trunks? You know? Something interesting
- 23:29Shanada pointed out that I just remembered. The
- 23:32fighter's shoes, even those were not limited
- 23:38to brand, but they were limited to color. It
- 23:42was pretty much just black or white shoes. That's
- 23:45all you got. That's fucking ridiculous, though.
- 23:52It's a fighter's choice of what the fuck they
- 23:55want to wear. The reason why they have these
- 23:58customizations, the reason why they do these
- 23:59walkouts, a big part of it is because it could
- 24:03be their very last moments on Earth. You know?
- 24:07Yeah. Give them their time to shine, their time
- 24:12to express themselves, and leave a lasting impression
- 24:15on the people. If they do die in the ring, on
- 24:18who they were as a person creatively in their
- 24:21life. I know it sounds like I'm fucking reaching,
- 24:24but, I mean, these guys walk out with their music
- 24:29to hype them up and to show off what kind of
- 24:31person they are, you know? Rich Taurus walks
- 24:34out to Beethoven type shit, you know? He walks
- 24:38out to classical music. I know it doesn't have
- 24:40to do with Trunks, but I mean, these guys, like
- 24:43Stephen Fulton. Stephen Fulton or Tims. That's
- 24:48fucking crazy. But it's a cultural message. You
- 24:55know what I mean? It's who he is. And if you're
- 24:58not going to allow that, then you're just not
- 24:59allowing a fighter to express themselves before
- 25:01they fucking possibly pass away in the ring.
- 25:04steven nelson when he wore the um the shit makes
- 25:09me laugh every time but the like the sagging
- 25:13jean shorts trunks like the the trunks had a
- 25:18like boxers showing and sagged jeans as the pattern
- 25:25that shit is just way too funny like what uh
- 25:30yeah and the the uh m bison attire that he had
- 25:34it's just too good like why do you want to get
- 25:38rid of that yeah I mean stay where you want to
- 25:43be sponsored but for creativity go fuck yourself
- 25:46and if you're going to take away the pageantry
- 25:55which is I would expect most fans, like, if you're
- 26:05going to take away the pageantry, then you better,
- 26:08at the very least, be putting on good fights.
- 26:11Which is not the case. You're kind of scraping
- 26:16the bottom of the barrel here with fucking...
- 26:18The luck is that 360 Promotions was already part
- 26:24of the UFC fucking umbrella. And that's pretty
- 26:29much it. Yeah. That is a lot more time than I
- 26:36expected Zufa to get, but goddammit, it just
- 26:39really fucking rubs me the wrong way. Do you

- 27:59isn't a scented wash you get from the grocery

- 28:44that dermatologists trust. LVX .BE slash flakes.
- 28:51Moving on. Saturday, January 24th. Real shit
- 28:57went down. Zayquin Moses starting at the bottom.
- 29:03He got a UD over Leandro Medina. Zayquin is another
- 29:09grade A prospect. I believe he trains with...
- 29:16He's related to Shakur Stevenson, I think they
- 29:20were saying. But regardless, he trains with Shakur.
- 29:24I think he's in the BOMAC gym. So, Zayquin was
- 29:31excellent to watch. Oh, man. Speaking of fighter
- 29:39personalities, Omari Jones walks out to... Michael
- 29:45Jackson every time. He beat the shit out of Jerome
- 29:50Baxter for six rounds. Good fight, I'll say.
- 29:57Decent. Decent showing of weight and kibble of.
- 30:00I'm surprised that Amari didn't get the stoppage.
- 30:04He was close to a couple times. Yeah, exactly.
- 30:08I guess he's just the guy who fought with his
- 30:09stuff. Oh, boy. Israel Madrimov, also a UD over
- 30:19Luis Salazar. Madrimov decided to turn it up
- 30:25in the last round and a half. Yeah. Oh, shit.
- 30:34I'm already ranting. I've been doing some listening
- 30:40right now. It's nice. I don't have much to rant
- 30:44about. I went on the rant about the creativity
- 30:47and then you guys added on. It was good. I'm
- 30:51going to start with you. I'm about to, though.
- 30:53We got the light heavyweight show. Oh, yeah.
- 30:57Yeah, like Israel Madrimov, this was supposed
- 31:01to be him showing that he's back. There was all
- 31:06that talk about him being sick. with the Virgil
- 31:11Ortiz fight. So this was supposed to be like
- 31:14the return and he, he turned in what was clearly
- 31:20like a one -sided performance, but not very impressive
- 31:25for who we thought Madrimov was or is. You could
- 31:30have a dominant, but mediocre performance. Yeah.
- 31:32It's very possible. You could be dominant the
- 31:35whole time, but you can't, if you don't knock
- 31:37him out or if he, if he looks even. even a little
- 31:40bit good in some cases, then you just put up
- 31:43a mediocre performance against a guy that you
- 31:44should have either knocked out or dominated.
- 31:48Should have handled that with ease. He did handle
- 31:51it with ease, but, like, dude, you could have
- 31:54done more. He could have tried a bit more. Yeah.
- 32:00I'm not gonna say this is the end of Madrimov,
- 32:04but I would say I would say put him up there
- 32:13with another top 15. If he loses, then he's done.
- 32:15That's fair. Oh, shit. Speaking of fair, question
- 32:23mark. Khalil Coe, majority decision over Jesse
- 32:28Hart. Josh, you said you wanted to say a bit
- 32:34about this one. Oh, Jesus Christ. Like... Man,
- 32:40how many times is this guy going to blow weight?
- 32:46How many times? Yes. This has been a consistent
- 32:51issue. This has been a reoccurring issue where
- 32:57he just doesn't give a fuck about weight limits.
- 33:02I wouldn't say he's at the level to be fucking
- 33:07off about weight. So he just doesn't, he just
- 33:12is not giving a fuck about the weight. And it's
- 33:14really just not what it is. Like just why, like
- 33:21you're not good enough. And it's just like, it's
- 33:26so difficult to actually gauge his level when
- 33:29he's, well, you could gauge it pretty well considering
- 33:31heart kind of, other than getting tired in the
- 33:35point deduction. Kind of outboxed him pretty
- 33:38cleanly. But. Like. It's just. Like. He should
- 33:43take this as a loss. Regardless of the result.
- 33:48Because Jesse Hart is. Old. And. Also. Not. All
- 33:54that. And I've just. I've kind of had it with
- 34:00Coe. I don't want to see. I don't even want to
- 34:01see him like. Show up again. Like I want him.
- 34:04Down on club shows. Because. Like, a prospect
- 34:08who can't be fucked to make weight is, especially
- 34:13at, like, 29 years old with nothing that impressive
- 34:17is just, it's not something I'm too interested
- 34:21in. Also, he's, like what you said, he's 29 fucking
- 34:24years old acting like he is, he has all the time
- 34:28in the world to be doing these antics. Buddy,
- 34:31your time is running out. He's not going to get
- 34:33a world title shot if he can't make weight. Exactly.
- 34:37Nobody's going to want to fight him. He's not
- 34:39good enough to even beat any of the champs. Even
- 34:44if he does make weight. He's not even ranked,
- 34:48I think. No, because he did throw away his USA
- 34:51light heavyweight title by blowing weight this
- 34:53time. Fucking ridiculous. Like, it's just...
- 34:58They're literally just pissing money down the
- 35:01toilet. Like, this is a guy who should be in
- 35:04Zufa. And not anywhere near legitimate promotions.
- 35:09Send his ass to fucking Zufa. He's making a mockery
- 35:12of the sport. I mean, even Eddie Hearns sounds
- 35:16like he's tired of them. I generally think that
- 35:18this is either his last fight with Mashroom or
- 35:21his second to last fight. But honestly, I just
- 35:24genuinely don't think it's good. Eddie's going
- 35:25to send him up the toilet with someone who's
- 35:27actually okay. Yeah, because, I mean, he already
- 35:31got knocked out, too. He might be the Ben Whittaker
- 35:33victim we've been looking for. Oh, baby, Ben
- 35:36Whittaker. That would be a damn good fight to
- 35:40watch. Who would I want to see get knocked out
- 35:42more, a British shit -talker? That is a Ben Whittaker
- 35:46highlight reel. I mean, honestly, I hope it's
- 35:52not even that too bad of a win for Ben Whittaker.
- 35:55I mean, that's actually a decent step up, I guess.
- 35:59But I mean, like Ben Whitaker beating up on a
- 36:03guy who can't make weight is like, sure. I'm
- 36:05happy with that. But I don't know. Is this a
- 36:10question of discipline or just a question of
- 36:13what? Because honestly, I just think he lacks
- 36:17discipline. I don't think it's discipline specifically
- 36:21because discipline, if he were disciplined. Maybe
- 36:29it is discipline, actually, now that I'm thinking
- 36:31about it. Because Jesse Hart, I feel, genuinely
- 36:35beat him, regardless of the antics. So, I don't
- 36:42know. Even if he shows up, he has to show up
- 36:45dialed in in camp. And he has to show up dialed
- 36:50in in the fight. How many fucking steps of dialed
- 36:55in is this guy lacking? And, yeah, you're right.
- 37:00You're right. It's a lack of discipline. And
- 37:03I think that it extends beyond the ring. Well,
- 37:10in the ring, too, that lack of discipline also
- 37:12adds on to his lack of stamina, which is why
- 37:17he lost to Gallegos, which is also why, in my
- 37:20opinion, he lost to Hart. He didn't win the fight.
- 37:23I know that for sure. I mean... You could make
- 37:26the case for a draw, but I don't want to call
- 37:30robbery, but that card was fucking bullshit.
- 37:34That was a pretty bullshit card they gave him.
- 37:39They wanted his ass to win to keep his record
- 37:42straight, but what are you going to do about
- 37:45it? We knew it was going to happen. Leo, you
- 37:51and I both said that this shit was going to happen.
- 37:53Yeah. They were going to job Jesse from the beginning,
- 37:58unfortunately. Yeah. Oh, shit. That's more time
- 38:05than Khalil Coe deserves. On to what was, I think,
- 38:12an early fight of the year contender. Ray Moritaya
- 38:18just edges by. Andy Cruz to retain his IBF lightweight
- 38:25title. First things first, the 118 -110, whoever
- 38:31turned that in, I would very much like to talk
- 38:36to you. And I would like to hear what your rationale
- 38:41is. Oh, Tim, cheat him. Excellent. Yeah. It's
- 38:46always Tim, fucking cheat him. Yeah. But it was...
- 38:51It was a solid, uh, solid affair, but just both
- 38:56guys did good work. Uh, it was clear. Andy Cruz
- 39:01was not ready for like the, the championship
- 39:03rounds. Cause he's never had to go that distance
- 39:07before. And it showed it down the line. I really
- 39:12think he just expected more tired to fold at
- 39:14some point. They just didn't. Well, I got power
- 39:19apparently too. I got to say this, that honestly,
- 39:23we can't pretend that we all thought Andy Cruz
- 39:26was going to win or Andy Cruz was going to lose.
- 39:29But at the same time, I didn't think Moritaya
- 39:31would look that good in the ring. No, he definitely
- 39:34stepped up. One thing about, I will say this
- 39:37as I spoke up last time, I made the case for
- 39:40Raymond Moritaya that if he did step up the fight
- 39:43and put on the pressure, he has a better chance.
- 39:45But I honestly didn't think he was going to do
- 39:47that. He did. I also knew that Andy... Andy Cruz
- 39:51against his questionable performance against
- 39:55Antonio Moran would kind of play on this fight
- 40:01too. He got tagged a good amount with shit that
- 40:04he should not have been tagged with if he was
- 40:05a elite fighter. You know? He did that amateur
- 40:09tell where he got hit and he shook his head.
- 40:13The fuck is that? Dude, he got hit. Yeah, what
- 40:17the hell, dude? Rey put up a damn good fight.
- 40:22I got to give all the credit to the world. I
- 40:24didn't even think he was going to win. But I
- 40:25was rooting for him, and I'm happy he won. He
- 40:27retained his title. In my eyes, he's a full champion
- 40:30at this point. He defended against a decent opponent,
- 40:36I will say. But we'll see what happens with him
- 40:42in the future. I actually honestly look forward
- 40:45to seeing Rey in another fight that... is of
- 40:49equal caliber of an opponent to Andy Cruz. Raymond
- 40:54Morita is a pretty fun fighter to watch when
- 40:57he steps on the gas. Another, too, is a sense
- 41:02of good narrative that Robert Garcia beat Bozy.
- 41:07And honestly, I feel like a big difference in
- 41:09this fight, too, is the trainers. I'm not trying
- 41:13to glaze, but... I feel like what really helped
- 41:18Murata win the fight was his trainer. Because
- 41:21I feel like he was able to listen to Robert and
- 41:23Robert had more clear instructions rather than
- 41:27Bozy. Bozy kind of just kind of gave vague shit.
- 41:33Robert Garcia buff. It's a real thing. Yeah,
- 41:37Robert Garcia, he's a veteran of this shit. And
- 41:40I think that's also kind of what edged it out
- 41:42in this fight. When shit got tough, Robert told
- 41:47Ray what to do. Bozy kind of just said, hey,
- 41:50fucking do better. Do it for your family. Do
- 41:54it for your country. Shut up about that shit,
- 41:57dude. Yeah, that's very vague. A fighter doesn't
- 42:01need that. I feel like watching this fight play
- 42:05out is kind of giving a hint to what could happen
- 42:08with Virgil and Boots. Now, I'm not saying it's
- 42:11going to play out exactly like that, but honestly,
- 42:14the way they fought, is going to be somewhat
- 42:19similar because they're trained by the same person.
- 42:22Obviously, they're not going to be the same fight,
- 42:24but obviously, Buta's better than Andy Cruz,
- 42:27and Virgil's better than Ray Bortaya, but you
- 42:32can see what's going to happen in the corner
- 42:33of the ring. And Bozy, Stephen Fulton, turned
- 42:39in that dud against Oshaki Foster. Oh, Jesus
- 42:44Christ. That one still makes me mad. Absolute
- 42:49goose egg. Fucking just the terrible showing
- 42:53at the weigh -in, obviously, and then not just
- 42:59absolute garbage in the fight as well. So maybe
- 43:06Bozy isn't as good of a trainer as we thought.
- 43:10Hey, I gotta give it to Bozy. He fucking made
- 43:12a Brit. A Philly man. Oh, yeah, Caterall. You're
- 43:18right. I was going to say, I feel like there's
- 43:22unique... Cruz is different, but I feel like
- 43:24there's a unique case in regards to Fulton showing
- 43:30up and just looking that bad. There's nothing
- 43:38a trainer can do to motivate a guy out of looking
- 43:41that shitty. And regarding Boots, that being
- 43:50said, he might not be as good of a trainer as
- 43:51we thought. I mean, Boots is a generational talent
- 43:54that literally came out of his nuts. He might
- 43:58just be the American version of Eddie Reynoso.
- 44:04You have a generational talent? That's Virgil
- 44:06Hunter, though. Yeah, Virgil Hunter did that,
- 44:08too. Virgil Hunter had Andre Ward walk through
- 44:11his doors, too. Yeah. At the same time, I'm not
- 44:19going to call Bozy a bad trainer yet. I still
- 44:22feel like he's got some work to do. He's kind
- 44:27of new in the training game. He kind of came
- 44:29up on the scene recently, whereas Robert's been
- 44:31training fighters since, what, the early 2000s?
- 44:36Yeah. So it's going to take time for him to become
- 44:41the level Robert, but we'll see. Overall, this
- 44:49is Ray's night. All the credit of the evening
- 44:56goes to him. I think a good fight with Ray would
- 44:59be William Cepeda. That would be a damn good
- 45:02fight with him. Honestly, even a fight with Floyd
- 45:07Schofield would be nice. You could also do a
- 45:10unification bout with Abdullah Mason. Good fight.
- 45:15In the IBF, so Ray obviously is the IBF champ.
- 45:19Right now, it hasn't been updated yet. Number
- 45:24one, Andy Cruz. Number two, vacant. Three, Schofield.
- 45:28Four, Mark Maxayo. Five, Lucas Body. Of the three,
- 45:35four, five, Floyd Schofield's a fucking excellent
- 45:38pick for a title defense. For Schofield, I feel
- 45:47like that would be kind of an unsafe decision
- 45:49depending on who's going to be fighting for the
- 45:51WBA route. Because he's going to become WBA champ
- 45:55soon. Depending on the person he fights. Because
- 46:02he held the interim belt for the WBA. He's number
- 46:08one in the WBA ranking right now. He might have
- 46:12that interim belt. Yeah, he might just get that
- 46:16shit. Yeah. If he even fights again, because
- 46:20Jesus Christ, he hasn't fought in a while. Hopefully.
- 46:26I think Abdullah Mason has to fight Joe Cordina
- 46:33next. Joe Cordina. Yeah, he beat Gabe Flores
- 46:39on the Pacheco. Lush. To become mandatory? I
- 46:47believe so. It was for Rankings. Well, at the
- 46:51very least. Hey, Cordina, you saw what happened
- 46:54with your buddy. Can you make magic happen? I
- 47:01don't know. I doubt it. If Nox couldn't do it,
- 47:03I really doubt Cordina could. Yeah. Cordina is
- 47:07not the same Cordina as we once saw. It's not
- 47:12the same guy. Ray's options are... With the IBF,
- 47:22we all know they're really strict. So his options
- 47:26are pretty limited. Schofield is probably...
- 47:31I would say that's a good fight. McSio... McSio
- 47:35can show up and spoil parties. So not a bad fight
- 47:41either. Lucas Boddy, I'm not sure what to make
- 47:44of him. He had that one hitter with Ashton Silva,
- 47:53was it? Ashton Silva, yes, the Jake Paul prospect.
- 47:59But before that, he wasn't all that awesome.
- 48:03Ashton Silva was also just putting a beating
- 48:06on him prior to. Yeah. the one hitter he was
- 48:10losing until he won yeah um but yeah those are
- 48:16his top prospects uh gervonta davis was stripped
- 48:21finally yeah the i saw somewhere that uh lamont
- 48:28roach was gonna be in their vacant fight against
- 48:32somebody but i don't remember where i saw that
- 48:38Andy Cruz. Where does he go from here? Because
- 48:42this was not a bad loss. I don't think he...
- 48:45There should be no shame in this. I think he
- 48:51should fight a couple 10 -rounders. Yes. Get
- 48:56an easy fight under your belt first. I would
- 49:00say maybe against... Yeah, that too. I would
- 49:04say maybe against Jojo Diaz. Or... Yeah, I know
- 49:08that sounds funny, but, like, genuinely, like,
- 49:11he needs a confidence booster. I guess maybe
- 49:16even Regis Progray. That would be a pretty decent
- 49:18fight for him. Yeah. Oh, Regis Progray is at
- 49:22140 now. Yeah. They're both at 140. Hmm. Let
- 49:27me think. What was that guy that fought Pitbull
- 49:30a couple years ago? Tall guy? I don't know. Fight
- 49:37Gustavo Lemos. Fight someone. Adam Azim. Jose
- 49:44Pedraza. Oh, I don't know about that. Jose Pedraza.
- 49:49Just to build him up name. Giovanni Cabrera.
- 49:52He could fight Giovanni Cabrera. Is that who
- 49:56you meant by tall guy? Yeah, tall pit bull guy.
- 50:00Yeah. Yeah, Giovanni Cabrera. He could fight
- 50:02a lot of guys. I think he could win. Definitely
- 50:06not someone in the top 10. You got to build yourself
- 50:09back up, buddy. You are a 30 -year -old fighter
- 50:12that doesn't have a lot of time. He's 6 -1 at
- 50:1830 years old. You don't got a lot of time. Yeah.
- 50:25You're Cuban, though, so you might, you know.
- 50:27Ageless wonder. Yeah. But he's also an athletic
- 50:33Cuban with... Not a lot of power. He might be
- 50:38going down the Areslandi -Lara route where he's
- 50:40old, but he has power. I doubt it. Yeah, Lara
- 50:45had power, even though he never used it. He's
- 50:49only recently started to because age and athleticism
- 50:53don't mix. But anything more for the matchroom
- 51:01card? We got to keep it rolling. damn good fight

- 54:39these, I guess. Friday, February 6th. Matchroom
- 54:44on DAZN. As of this moment, I have not seen what
- 54:50is on the undercard for this. I've checked every
- 54:53source I could think of. Christian Medina versus
- 54:56Adrian Curiel for the WBO bantamweight title.
- 55:04Fucking two Mexicans. You already know what you're
- 55:07going to get. Might be a decent fight. It's going
- 55:13to be fireworks, even if it's a little sloppy.
- 55:16Yep. And on Saturday, February 7th, Queensberry
- 55:24on DAZN in Liverpool. Oh boy, there's a lot of
- 55:32stuff on this card and I am struggling to find
- 55:36anything that I care about. Nick Ball versus
- 55:43Brandon Figueroa for the WBA featherweight title.
- 55:50This is a very... It would be funny for the meatball
- 55:59to win. And I do enjoy a humorous victory. But
- 56:07yeah, I would prefer for... Figueroa has access
- 56:11to better talent for defenses. I will say Figueroa,
- 56:17his last fight looked atrocious. It was not great.
- 56:24So maybe he needed that fight to get some confidence,
- 56:28but I don't know. Does he have it in him? I don't
- 56:33know. I hope so. Well, we can't have the year
- 56:41of the Brits if Figueroa wins. I'll tell you
- 56:45this. If Ball wins, that's going to be a pretty
- 56:47good name on his resume. Jesus Christ. It would
- 56:50be. It would be solid. Figaro's only losses are
- 56:57to Stephen Fulton. Adding yourself to that list
- 57:03is a really nice accolade. Yeah. What I want
- 57:15more than anything is for Nick Ball to fight
- 57:18Rafael Espinosa. To unify titles. Espinosa's
- 57:23like 6 '2". And Nick Ball's 5 '2". That would
- 57:30be funny as fuck. Yeah. That's not going to happen.
- 57:35Well, right now, top -ranked guys are being shopped
- 57:39out, so... Oh, maybe. It's possible that Espinosa
- 57:44gets sent to a Queensberry main event. We could
- 57:50hope. That would be a damn good fight, though.
- 57:54I think it's going to be a decent fight, too.
- 57:57Yeah. Nick Paul, as much as we like to make fun
- 58:01of him, he still puts up a decent effort, you
- 58:06know. It's going to be British slop, but it's
- 58:10going to be decent effort, British slop. I would
- 58:14liken him to Isaac Cruz. But not figured out
- 58:19yet. Yeah. Yeah, that's all we got on the fucking
- 58:29horizon. It's a light weekend. This actually
- 58:35because the only card we have on Saturday is
- 58:40midday on the west coast of the US. This might
- 58:45be a good time. to think about make a plan to
- 58:52touch some grass. Yes. It'll be good for you.
- 58:56It'll be good to go look at a tree. Go outside
- 59:01and look at one. Smell the flowers. Yeah. Walk
- 59:08your dog. We give life advice when there's no
- 59:16boxing. It's fucking true. They say we're boxing
- 59:20fans when we're telling you guys to not watch
- 59:22boxing. Well, there's nothing on. All we got
- 59:26is the Queensbury card in the middle of the day.
- 59:29It's something. It is. It is. These are a lot
- 59:37of Brit. It's a Brit slop card, unfortunately.
- 59:42that doesn't mean there won't be entertaining
- 59:44fights on it. I just don't know who these people
- 59:48are. So I can't really tell you. Thus, once this
- 59:57is over, this should be over like early evening
- 1:00:01timeframe. So that would be a good time to, you
- 1:00:07know, go somewhere outside. Well, on that pleasant
- 1:00:17note. Alright. Social media shit. LVX Media Net.
- 1:00:24That's the social media handle on everything.
- 1:00:28I think we're fucking around on Blue Sky these
- 1:00:31days. There are a surprising number of boxing
- 1:00:36fans on Blue Sky. Let's see. Wherever you are
- 1:00:43listening, if you could hit us with a rating,
- 1:00:46it helps move us up the accursed search algorithm.
- 1:00:51And although they were light today, Josh's rants,
- 1:00:56if you like them, you can get them in written
- 1:01:00format. LVXmedia .net. Go to the Wayside Sports
- 1:01:06Review or hit the articles button at the top
- 1:01:10of the page. I think that's how I have it set
- 1:01:12up. But there you go. With all that, we're heading
- 1:01:19into Mexican slop and Brit slop. Not a great
- 1:01:28weekend, but there's still boxing. Parting words.
- 1:01:36Oh man, this is a boring week. That's all you
- 1:01:42got to say? No, China forever. China forever.
- 1:01:47Comrades. Kaleo Ko, to Zufa you fucking go. I'm
- 1:02:00trying to find a good quote here. Fuck it, I'm
- 1:02:08going with this. Bruce Lee. If you always put
- 1:02:11limit on everything you do, physical or anything
- 1:02:14else, it will spread into your work and into
- 1:02:17your life. There are no limits. There are only
- 1:02:20plateaus and you must not stay there. You must
- 1:02:23go beyond them. No limit boxing. So that's nice.
- 1:02:31All right. That's it for this edition of the
- 1:02:34Boxing B -Sides. We will see you on the other
- 1:02:36side. of Nick Ball and Figueroa.
