- 1:49Speaker 1: time to hear from my man, Rashan McDonald money Making Conversations.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Here we go, Yes with Sean McDonald Money Making Conversations.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Really is um going on to a year. His next
- 2:00Speaker 1: month to be two years. I've been doing this show
- 2:03Speaker 1: and it's always been a blessing. When people have called
- 2:07Speaker 1: returned to my show, it means that the message I delivered,
- 2:10Speaker 1: the relationship I created, meant something to them and was
- 2:12Speaker 1: important to their brand and the people who represent them.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And knowing that two years later, one of the more
- 2:18Speaker 1: popular podcast shows I really got. I really got on
- 2:22Speaker 1: the radio just to do a radio show, and then
- 2:25Speaker 1: Serious XTM popped up. UM very successful there, and then
- 2:31Speaker 1: the podcast developed and I was really called called off
- 2:35Speaker 1: god by the success of the podcast. And now I'm
- 2:38Speaker 1: a podcast fan because I realized as a fan base
- 2:42Speaker 1: that I didn't have before. You know, you go out
- 2:44Speaker 1: here and you just don't know where the blessing has come.
- 2:47Speaker 1: You have to be ready when they come. And I'm
- 2:49Speaker 1: always ready. That's why that's why I preach your money
- 2:52Speaker 1: making conversation, don't be caught when success knocks on your door.
- 2:55Speaker 1: My next guest, and she's on the phone and a
- 2:58Speaker 1: bachelor's degree in English with it ironing sociology from Wayne
- 3:01Speaker 1: State University and it is currently working on a master's
- 3:04Speaker 1: degree in clinical psychology. Being a businesswoman in Entrepreneur, she
- 3:09Speaker 1: launched eleven sixty, a plus size clothing line. Her clothing
- 3:13Speaker 1: line and the customer base has reached and grown leaps
- 3:16Speaker 1: and bounds since we last talked on the phone, which
- 3:19Speaker 1: is last year, Love and sixty has gained tremendous traction.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Is now featured line sold to many many Macy's customers
- 3:26Speaker 1: across the world and on Macy's dot com. She will
- 3:29Speaker 1: be just a poart I like about this whole interview.
- 3:33Speaker 1: She will be be portraying her mother gospel legend Karen
- 3:38Speaker 1: Clark shared and the Clark's Sisters biopic aired on Lifetime
- 3:43Speaker 1: in Please Welcome back to money making conversations, Care shared,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Thank you, Hi, how are you girl? I had a
- 3:53Speaker 1: lot of talking about you then if I brought you up.
- 3:58Speaker 1: But let's talk about that clothing line first, you know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: because we talked about it last year and it was
- 4:03Speaker 1: doing good. What we in any new lines that you're dropping?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Its expanded. Let's talk about that first. This is a
- 4:09Speaker 1: plus lie plus size clothing line that's available on Macy's
- 4:13Speaker 1: dot com and in stores. Correct, uh no, actually it's
- 4:17Speaker 1: all just online at mabe dot com and you can
- 4:19Speaker 1: type in eleven sixty. Um, it's the word eleven and
- 4:24Speaker 1: then the number six zero. It's inspired by my mother,
- 4:27Speaker 1: it's her birthday and UM it is a line for
- 4:30Speaker 1: curvy women. Uh, and we're just working to provide them
- 4:33Speaker 1: with quality garments and styles that are fashioned forward, uh,
- 4:38Speaker 1: just allowing them to pop and stand out. But we
- 4:40Speaker 1: really designed with the curby woman in mind. UM. Whether
- 4:44Speaker 1: it's the part that we try to you know, kind
- 4:47Speaker 1: of camouflage not necessarily high, but sometimes we've got a
- 4:50Speaker 1: lot of juice and we want to be careful with
- 4:53Speaker 1: how we give the juice. So that's what we're doing.
- 4:56Speaker 1: We're just designing for curvy women. And it's on it's
- 4:59Speaker 1: available ACS dot com as well as my eleven sixty
- 5:03Speaker 1: dot com and it's doing really well and I'm hoping
- 5:05Speaker 1: to expand it a lot more in the future. How
- 5:08Speaker 1: do you market How do you market? I know you're
- 5:09Speaker 1: doing it on this show. Do you just market on
- 5:11Speaker 1: your social media? Do you model your clothes or your
- 5:13Speaker 1: social media? How do you get the word out about
- 5:16Speaker 1: the clothing line? You know? So I definitely have been
- 5:19Speaker 1: using my um social media. We are definitely kind of
- 5:23Speaker 1: working now on adding public relations or pr UM to
- 5:27Speaker 1: the marketing strategy that we do, but we basically seek
- 5:30Speaker 1: those opportunities. We look at our customers. Now we're studying
- 5:33Speaker 1: the occupations of our customers to not just go to
- 5:37Speaker 1: like plus size events or UM where the plus size
- 5:40Speaker 1: community is. We're trying to now go to where that
- 5:43Speaker 1: woman is directly to do direct marketing, whether it is
- 5:47Speaker 1: going to UM, you know, expos that maybe their jobs
- 5:50Speaker 1: are putting on and considering that there are other women
- 5:53Speaker 1: that maybe in their fields that are working there. We're
- 5:57Speaker 1: also doing the whole staturating the plus size market, so
- 6:00Speaker 1: finding those areas of like UM body positivity and going
- 6:05Speaker 1: to events like Curby con or Essence Fast UM and
- 6:10Speaker 1: not just like I said, not just trying to go
- 6:12Speaker 1: to the plus size UM events, but trying to just
- 6:15Speaker 1: find where the customer is so that we can grow
- 6:18Speaker 1: the customer base as well as create some sort of
- 6:22Speaker 1: customer retention. Just constantly saying that we're doing something new
- 6:25Speaker 1: and fresh and UM. Like we did say, digital influencers
- 6:29Speaker 1: on social media. That's a big thing. So you have
- 6:31Speaker 1: YouTubers now and you have people who are posting on
- 6:34Speaker 1: social media, so we use them as well. UM. Sometimes
- 6:37Speaker 1: that can be a bit um expensive, but these are
- 6:41Speaker 1: the sacrifices that we have to make, obviously, and I'm
- 6:44Speaker 1: sure a lot of us know that that we're listening
- 6:47Speaker 1: because we are here to make money, but if there
- 6:49Speaker 1: are parts of investments that are sacrifice that we have
- 6:52Speaker 1: to make, and it has a lot to do with
- 6:54Speaker 1: the investment. So that's how we're marketing digital influencers. Um,
- 6:57Speaker 1: going to the different events, even e marketing as far
- 7:01Speaker 1: as like the Blast and stuff, trying to live in
- 7:03Speaker 1: their emails but not get on their nerves, just to
- 7:05Speaker 1: stay in their face. Um, as the old folks used
- 7:08Speaker 1: to say, out of out of sight, out of mind,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and we try to just keep it in their face
- 7:14Speaker 1: and showing different ways of how it can be styled.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And that's pretty much how we're doing. We're really trying
- 7:18Speaker 1: to get back to into the Facebook way of marketing
- 7:22Speaker 1: as well, and um, that's pretty much it. Now. Okay,
- 7:26Speaker 1: now now we made that shift. Now, now we've got
- 7:29Speaker 1: to go over to this Lifetime movie about the Clark's
- 7:33Speaker 1: sister's biopic were You Will Be Betraying your Mother gospel
- 7:39Speaker 1: legend Claire Karen Clark share, Now tell me about did
- 7:44Speaker 1: your audition for the real I absolutely fear for the
- 7:48Speaker 1: wrong m So, what what did you have that the
- 7:52Speaker 1: other actresses didn't have? What insight did you have? Well,
- 7:56Speaker 1: I didn't see what the well obviously had a lot
- 7:58Speaker 1: more insight. My mom. She is, uh, the woman who
- 8:03Speaker 1: brought me into this world. I wasn't able to see
- 8:07Speaker 1: the auditions of the other actors, but I will say
- 8:10Speaker 1: for me it was very special. Um. I was really
- 8:12Speaker 1: nervous about it, and I put my best foot forward.
- 8:16Speaker 1: And it's really special to me. Like while it is
- 8:20Speaker 1: a great opportunity and I'm so thankful for it and
- 8:22Speaker 1: just blessed that the Lord would even allow me to have,
- 8:25Speaker 1: you know, uh, the opportunity to be on such platform
- 8:28Speaker 1: like with Lifetime and so forth. Um, But to me
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's even special. It's beyond the world, and it's beyond
- 8:34Speaker 1: the platform. This is me delivering from my mom to
- 8:37Speaker 1: tell her story again and so that she can see
- 8:39Speaker 1: before her eyes, this is what you've done. And to
- 8:42Speaker 1: really applaud yourself for what you have experienced and how
- 8:46Speaker 1: you maintain your grace as well as your timelessness. Um
- 8:51Speaker 1: as a mother, a wife, artist, and as a public figure. Um.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So it's really sensitive for me. It's it's I hold
- 8:57Speaker 1: it dear to my heart, and UM, I hope it's
- 9:00Speaker 1: She's brought to tears with just the delivery and seeing that, Wow,
- 9:04Speaker 1: you know, I'm able to see myself again, UM, And
- 9:07Speaker 1: I hope that it's the way of me paying homage
- 9:09Speaker 1: to her. So it's really special for me. And it
- 9:12Speaker 1: was a lot of fun. I can't wait for you
- 9:14Speaker 1: all to see it because hearing their story and them
- 9:17Speaker 1: you know, being open and transparent about what has happened
- 9:20Speaker 1: um through the years, as well as just even acknowledging
- 9:24Speaker 1: or noticing their accomplishments by just speaking the name of
- 9:28Speaker 1: Jesus through love music stage. It was just it's just powerful.
- 9:32Speaker 1: So I can't make it for you are to see it. Okay,
- 9:34Speaker 1: where did you so? I'm assuming that what you're talking
- 9:37Speaker 1: that you've already shot the project. Yes we have. Okay,
- 9:41Speaker 1: what what was this shot at? Um? It was shot
- 9:45Speaker 1: at and I think we were in Canada, right, Okay, cool, okay, cool?
- 9:50Speaker 1: And did you anything surprised you in the movie? What
- 9:53Speaker 1: any information you didn't know about your mom or your
- 9:56Speaker 1: or your aunt. And it was just really engaging what
- 9:59Speaker 1: they don't set. Did you you know did they Did
- 10:02Speaker 1: you go to them for thoughts, inspiration, character development? I did, definitely.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I basically stayed on. UM. I kept asking my mom questions.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I slept with her in my ears. UM, I listened
- 10:16Speaker 1: to her music. UM. I was listening to the performances literally,
- 10:19Speaker 1: like just going to sleep with her, watching videos that
- 10:22Speaker 1: were already in my phone with her, just to follow
- 10:25Speaker 1: and watch her mannerisms and just to study her. Um.
- 10:29Speaker 1: They were one set, and they did have some interaction. UM.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And it's a lot more. I don't want to give
- 10:35Speaker 1: too much because I don't think I'm released too, but
- 10:37Speaker 1: I'm giving you a huge precursor of everything. But yes,
- 10:42Speaker 1: it was very interactive. That money make conversation. See, I'm
- 10:46Speaker 1: gonna ask questions that the average person wouldn't know because
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm a producer managed talent. So but let me. You said,
- 10:53Speaker 1: said she does a little love. You said little habits.
- 10:56Speaker 1: What was one habit that you can tell me that
- 10:58Speaker 1: your mom does? Did that you make sure you included
- 11:03Speaker 1: in the movie. She's very soft spoken, but when she speaks,
- 11:09Speaker 1: she comes with power. UM. And so that's not an
- 11:12Speaker 1: easy thing to embrace because I am the opposite of
- 11:16Speaker 1: my mom. I am a little bit more um bolsterous
- 11:19Speaker 1: if that If that makes sense, I don't even know
- 11:22Speaker 1: if that's the word. But I talked a little more
- 11:24Speaker 1: than my mom, So I had to practice being quiet
- 11:27Speaker 1: and I love practicing that and if now even a
- 11:30Speaker 1: life skill that I would like to embrace a bit
- 11:32Speaker 1: more um. But I noticed that that she does that
- 11:35Speaker 1: she speaks um. She speaks a little, like very little,
- 11:40Speaker 1: but even when she hits the stage, just like whoa,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you're a completely different person. So I really tried to
- 11:45Speaker 1: portray that. Again. I want to thank for Kire for
- 11:49Speaker 1: coming on the show, great time as always. She has
- 11:51Speaker 1: a clothing line that you can get on your Love
- 11:53Speaker 1: and sixty. It's on Macy's dot com Real popular, and
- 11:56Speaker 1: I just love how she's taking control of a brand
- 11:59Speaker 1: and more important. On May tenth, uh don't judge Me,
- 12:02Speaker 1: will be Outward in partnership with CAREW Records and our
- 12:06Speaker 1: c a inspiration, and she'll be playing her mall in
- 12:09Speaker 1: a new biopick that production is wrapped shot in Canada
- 12:13Speaker 1: on Lifetime in please come back on my show and
- 12:16Speaker 1: please give me the information. So I make sure that
- 12:19Speaker 1: I post on my social media the single Don't Judge Me.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I was looking for a better way to check in
- 12:26Speaker 1: on our house while I was at work, and a
- 12:28Speaker 1: friend recommended Blink. I was skeptical but decided to give
- 12:31Speaker 1: it a shot, and I bought a Blink camera system.
- 12:34Speaker 1: With our last security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and
- 12:37Speaker 1: monthly fees, we couldn't get out of my bad. But
- 12:40Speaker 1: our Blink system is different. Their motion activated cameras that
- 12:43Speaker 1: work inside and outside, their wire free, easy to set up,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and they run on two lithium batteries that last up
- 12:48Speaker 1: to two years. Total peace of mind and Blink camera
- 12:51Speaker 1: system started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions. We were
- 12:54Speaker 1: on vacation and I gotten to learn of my smartphone
- 12:57Speaker 1: that motion was detected at our front door. I checked
- 12:59Speaker 1: my Blank app and I saw it was just my
- 13:01Speaker 1: cool new device being delivered. Hey, we agreed no new
- 13:04Speaker 1: devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding. With Blink camera
- 13:08Speaker 1: systems starting under eighty bucks, home security just got easier.

- 15:00Speaker 1: to t firstrate on money that can come to face. Yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I said twenty. He said twenty. Man, you know twenty.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I don't know if that's I don't know if you
- 15:08Speaker 1: hears money making. Other people don't know about it. But
- 15:11Speaker 1: you've been't making money make You've been knowing me since
- 15:16Speaker 1: Uh oh my god, I can't even figure that out.
- 15:22Speaker 1: That's It's good to talk to you this morning. How

- 15:26Speaker 1: anniversary show. I appreciate you. But as usual, you're very busy.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Dr George Wallace. I am just busy like you said,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I have a residence at the Westgate and lost status
- 15:35Speaker 1: and it's just life. It's just good. I'm the most
- 15:38Speaker 1: best personal you have have met. That's all I want
- 15:41Speaker 1: to say. Well, you always say that you blessed, but
- 15:43Speaker 1: obviously you're blessing us with these jokes. Now, how do
- 15:45Speaker 1: you keep how do you just stay fresh on the
- 15:47Speaker 1: comedy stage, George Wallace? Because one here, all I do
- 15:51Speaker 1: is just I just love going to work, because all
- 15:53Speaker 1: I do is live. I just love the line and
- 15:55Speaker 1: I wake up in the morning line I think, God,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I want to be in the world. But right now,
- 16:01Speaker 1: Donald Compass kicking. But but I'm doing what I have
- 16:04Speaker 1: to do. Well, I think you kicking everybody's butt, and
- 16:07Speaker 1: I think you're from a comedic standpoint if you're winning
- 16:10Speaker 1: with him on stage. Listen. But it's good to talk
- 16:14Speaker 1: money and uh and have fun while you're making money.
- 16:17Speaker 1: That's what I like about my job and your job.
- 16:19Speaker 1: We love what we do. So many people don't know
- 16:21Speaker 1: you can make money having fun. Always enjoyed. Honor your esforence,
- 16:26Speaker 1: honor your essence. Make sure you enjoy what you do.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I love running work every night, not just lie and
- 16:32Speaker 1: they asked me, Am I coming in tomorrow and tell him, hell, yeah,
- 16:35Speaker 1: be on time. I just love what I do and
- 16:37Speaker 1: I hope everybody enjoy the work, and I teach people
- 16:40Speaker 1: also to take off. Every day you get a chance,
- 16:43Speaker 1: well take off the course. You know what I'm saying. Absolutely,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I think that, you know, one of the things every
- 16:47Speaker 1: time you come on my show has been inspirational. We know,
- 16:50Speaker 1: we know you're funny, but I think what you always
- 16:52Speaker 1: drop these nuggets of of life, life and misresponsibilities. And
- 16:57Speaker 1: also don't do what you don't enjoy. You know exactly exactly,
- 17:02Speaker 1: and then you're smart. You know. Uh, people, if you're
- 17:06Speaker 1: working in hospital, you work in the hospital. You don't
- 17:08Speaker 1: have to go to work and set you know, don't
- 17:11Speaker 1: just becose you're working in hospool you think you're still
- 17:13Speaker 1: don't get well on calling said, if any place you
- 17:17Speaker 1: call it sick, you call and ticket the hospital. But again,
- 17:19Speaker 1: they might ask you to come to work so you
- 17:21Speaker 1: can find out what's wrong with me. Thinking like that's like,
- 17:28Speaker 1: people just turn around. It doesn't matter which we go.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We can make it a joke and it's funny and
- 17:32Speaker 1: it makes sense. Let's talk a little bit about this
- 17:34Speaker 1: show because because I'm kind of mad with you about
- 17:36Speaker 1: the Vegas show, because you know, I love Vegas. I
- 17:39Speaker 1: defined out through my staff that you're back in Vegas.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Then they pulled it up on the screen, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: showing how you can get tickets, got that nice little bio,
- 17:48Speaker 1: got your little hat on everything that you that's kind
- 17:50Speaker 1: of like part of your brain and everything thinking, you know,
- 17:54Speaker 1: peeping from around the curtain and everything. So what we
- 17:58Speaker 1: remember previously when you had your vague A show, you
- 18:00Speaker 1: was kind of like a host and he was bringing
- 18:03Speaker 1: up performers and you would also be funny as well,
- 18:05Speaker 1: are you doing the same thing at this show? It
- 18:07Speaker 1: was kind of like Apollo Night, Amateur Night. Correct, h,
- 18:11Speaker 1: this is whatever half fun. You never know who's gonna
- 18:13Speaker 1: stop by. It's still I only have to work for
- 18:15Speaker 1: one arm fifteen minutes. One are actually have to work
- 18:18Speaker 1: for it or five minutes, believe it or not. And
- 18:20Speaker 1: I just love going to work and you never know
- 18:22Speaker 1: who's gonna stop by. You know. Of course, my friend
- 18:24Speaker 1: sign Pelle was always stopping by, and uh, just everybody
- 18:27Speaker 1: in there. And I like the young comics to bring
- 18:29Speaker 1: them out to Chris Paul and Huckey lowdown and just
- 18:33Speaker 1: something to the young committees on on nerdio and television.
- 18:36Speaker 1: We're just kind of fun. Yes, now you got a
- 18:39Speaker 1: couple of movie coming up. Here they're talking about the
- 18:41Speaker 1: last laugh of Netflix film What's Your What's your Drive
- 18:44Speaker 1: for us? And Chevy Chase. Yeah, I also got one
- 18:47Speaker 1: with U a bouch of name Cat Williams talking two
- 18:52Speaker 1: Minutes of Fame. And since I last talked to you,
- 18:54Speaker 1: like I said, I did I move with Morgan Freeman.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Never liked him and because I think everyone when he
- 18:59Speaker 1: played I should have gotten roll. You're I'm gonna give
- 19:01Speaker 1: the mess stage. I know what about the Atlanta Beat
- 19:05Speaker 1: does and I gotta move? Uh, we just did that
- 19:07Speaker 1: funny you should have asked last week. But Byron Ellen
- 19:10Speaker 1: is a amazing with Byron Ellen on the weather station,
- 19:14Speaker 1: that's wonderful. That's a conversation like that. Yeah, I'm trying
- 19:17Speaker 1: to get on my show because that that shows you
- 19:19Speaker 1: how you can go from telling jokes to becoming the
- 19:21Speaker 1: man who being paid for you the jokes or the
- 19:24Speaker 1: weather chat. And yeah he owns about thirty felows. Didn't
- 19:28Speaker 1: know that absolutely well, you know that show that your
- 19:30Speaker 1: own it's a popular syndicated show, and you've been on that. Yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you're like a staple on that show. I've seen you
- 19:35Speaker 1: several several episodes, seven different episodes on that show. Well,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I you know that. Then I'm a thow in Law
- 19:40Speaker 1: and Order. I'm also um, what does coming to the
- 19:43Speaker 1: stage the whole stats? Uh, I'm just glass. I just
- 19:46Speaker 1: did that the old HUGUALI last week. I love working
- 19:49Speaker 1: and that's why I continue. For the past forty three years,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I've been telling jokes. That's wonderful. Well, my man, I
- 19:56Speaker 1: want to just thank you for calling on my anniversary show.
- 20:00Speaker 1: But you know you can call it anytime. I know
- 20:01Speaker 1: you told me Rashwan, what the mom in the Atlanta
- 20:04Speaker 1: Let you know you come by and sitting it on
- 20:06Speaker 1: my studio because you've done that for me. You've been
- 20:08Speaker 1: an anchor. You know, when I was trying to put
- 20:10Speaker 1: the word out about to show you didn't hesitate, you
- 20:12Speaker 1: came on my show. You've been supporting me. Uh, it's
- 20:14Speaker 1: such a show launch by making a conversation in So
- 20:18Speaker 1: I'm just happy that for you, I've done all of
- 20:21Speaker 1: that for You'll live for you, I clean for you,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I'll feed you and what do you do for me?
- 20:24Speaker 1: Mr Man? Never got one? Check Mr Man, sam'na get
- 20:28Speaker 1: you on the foot for the sludge cover or George Wallace,
- 20:32Speaker 1: Dr George Waller. I appreciate you and I was what
- 20:35Speaker 1: I would do is spread the words social media wide
- 20:37Speaker 1: and started helping put more people in that that show
- 20:40Speaker 1: in Vegas. You keep winning. Okay, Hi, just ra Sean
- 20:45Speaker 1: McDonald clearing my throat. I don't know about the call
- 20:48Speaker 1: button and say he pressed the car button right there.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You're supposed to be a clear throat and nobody hears you.
- 20:53Speaker 1: But then I'm sitting in front of the wrong button.
- 20:57Speaker 1: So when I pressed the button, they still here but
- 20:59Speaker 1: cleared my throat. So that means either um, unprofessional or
- 21:03Speaker 1: I need to move my seat. I think I'll stay
- 21:06Speaker 1: right here because I like I'm in the center of
- 21:08Speaker 1: the room. So I like being in the center of
- 21:10Speaker 1: the room where I just reach over and pressed cough.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Next time I do it. Okay. My next friend, Uh,
- 21:17Speaker 1: she's a talker. She's from d C. One of my
- 21:20Speaker 1: favorite people. I met her and Uh during the Hoodie
- 21:23Speaker 1: Awards to the Neighborhood Awards. She's a personal in business.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Tax season because the tax season never ends. She's there
- 21:30Speaker 1: a personal and business taxes. You come to this lad
- 21:32Speaker 1: in the DC area worldwide if you want to. But
- 21:35Speaker 1: she's a serial entrepreneur and the owner of Foods Financial
- 21:39Speaker 1: Service LLC. She provides tax preparation services for individuals and
- 21:43Speaker 1: small businesses all year long. He's working with the money
- 21:47Speaker 1: making conversation. One of my favorite on my anniversary show,
- 21:50Speaker 1: Laura Foods good. I'm so excited to be with your anniversary.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Get my hand people I want on my show, and
- 22:01Speaker 1: I had to get to talking, you know, just because
- 22:04Speaker 1: I get tired. I could do pretty Laura on the
- 22:05Speaker 1: show should take old my show now, I will, I will,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I could probably take over. So I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 22:12Speaker 1: try to stick to the questions and now the question
- 22:16Speaker 1: how's your how's your daughter? Let's get the family time.
- 22:18Speaker 1: How's your daughter? The daughter is doing great. We are
- 22:21Speaker 1: just finishing up her first year at Temple University UM
- 22:26Speaker 1: and she is doing job interviews and as a matter
- 22:29Speaker 1: of fact, she has um a phone interview with w
- 22:32Speaker 1: H you are tomorrow for an internship with them through
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know the station we work with so much. Through
- 22:39Speaker 1: the Hoodie awards, but no, So she's doing She's doing great.
- 22:42Speaker 1: She's a temple with straight a's in college, so I'm
- 22:46Speaker 1: very excited about that. So thank you for always checking
- 22:49Speaker 1: on her, guys to check on there, I also have
- 22:51Speaker 1: to check on you some time because you always go
- 22:53Speaker 1: you always go live, and so I surprised every too
- 22:57Speaker 1: much while I just little No, I'm watching her. Yes
- 23:02Speaker 1: that could be all over the place sometimes, Yes you are,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and I love it. So what are what are you
- 23:06Speaker 1: working on now? I just want to just highlight some
- 23:08Speaker 1: of the things you're doing and just keeping you in
- 23:10Speaker 1: the know. On the people that I talked to on
- 23:13Speaker 1: a regular basis, she's one of my favorite. Like I said,
- 23:15Speaker 1: she's a serial entrepreneur, she's a fantastic tax expert, and
- 23:20Speaker 1: also she understands the value of multiple levels of income.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So how does the tax Tuesday on your social media
- 23:26Speaker 1: been working for you? Um? It has been good. Last
- 23:29Speaker 1: year was very very good. This year, I think because
- 23:32Speaker 1: now everywhere I go, people says, Okay, you're the tax lady.
- 23:36Speaker 1: This year, I did like one or two and then
- 23:38Speaker 1: tax season started and everything just when became a blood
- 23:43Speaker 1: because I got so inundated with new clients, and especially
- 23:47Speaker 1: with these taxtar changes, everybody really wanted a tax to
- 23:50Speaker 1: pay and not necessarily them doing it on their own.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Um So, I will admit I was probably not as
- 23:55Speaker 1: consistent the season with tax tip two today just because
- 23:59Speaker 1: the business I mean, people were coming out of nowhere
- 24:02Speaker 1: that I have never met, never heard of, um which
- 24:05Speaker 1: is a great thing. But certainly I think that that
- 24:07Speaker 1: is how I've become so well, you ran yourself your
- 24:12Speaker 1: yourself of social media, you ran yourself off your own show,
- 24:15Speaker 1: what you say yourself, you canceled your own show through
- 24:20Speaker 1: the popularity. But I just got too busy. I didn't
- 24:25Speaker 1: and that and that was my fault because you know now,
- 24:27Speaker 1: of course you also know I have a corporate full
- 24:30Speaker 1: time career as a business finance manager where I take
- 24:34Speaker 1: care of forty two locations at the same time, so
- 24:36Speaker 1: all the businesses we talk about are aside from you know,
- 24:40Speaker 1: I have a twenty three year corporate career as well,
- 24:43Speaker 1: um so juggling all those things. But no, I certainly
- 24:45Speaker 1: think it was from you encouraging me that you know, Foosh,
- 24:49Speaker 1: you have to stop being scared. You just have to
- 24:51Speaker 1: go live every Tuesday, share information and people will come,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and as I said, they have continued to come. Just
- 24:59Speaker 1: like you talked you would. Well, you know, it's amazing
- 25:02Speaker 1: that your energy and your your belief in yourself so
- 25:06Speaker 1: proud of what your accomplishing as a mom with your daughter,
- 25:10Speaker 1: your you understand the balance of life, of having a
- 25:14Speaker 1: balance life not only with your daughter but with friends
- 25:16Speaker 1: and family members. You know, you, you know that's the
- 25:19Speaker 1: That's the one thing that's always shined in my relationship
- 25:21Speaker 1: with you is that you just you just enable me
- 25:24Speaker 1: to say other people, Yes, you can do a lot
- 25:26Speaker 1: of your accomplished a lot of dreams. You can be
- 25:29Speaker 1: very busy, but you have to make time for family,
- 25:31Speaker 1: have to make time with people who are helping you
- 25:34Speaker 1: get there. So any party, any any party words uh
- 25:39Speaker 1: law foods um. I think that the biggest thing is
- 25:44Speaker 1: to continue to be fearless, continue to make yourself uncomfortable
- 25:50Speaker 1: so that you're willing to do those things. And like
- 25:53Speaker 1: you said, this guy is a limit and drink. Dreams
- 25:56Speaker 1: do come true if you just keep you know, adding
- 25:59Speaker 1: value to other people and developing those relationships that take
- 26:03Speaker 1: our our key to all of our success. Appreciate you.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I was looking for a better way to check in
- 26:08Speaker 1: on our house. While I was at work and a

- 26:15Speaker 1: With our last security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and
- 26:19Speaker 1: monthly fees, we couldn't get out of my bad But
- 26:21Speaker 1: our Blink system is different. Their motion activated cameras that
- 26:24Speaker 1: work inside and outside, their wire free, easy to set up,
- 26:27Speaker 1: and they run on two lithium batteries that last up
- 26:30Speaker 1: to two years. Total peace of mind and Blink camera
- 26:32Speaker 1: system started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions. We were
- 26:36Speaker 1: on vacation and I gotten to learn of my smartphone
- 26:38Speaker 1: that motion was detected at our front door. I checked
- 26:41Speaker 1: my Blink app and I saw it was just my
- 26:42Speaker 1: cool new device being delivered. Hey, we agreed no new
- 26:45Speaker 1: devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding. With Blink camera
- 26:49Speaker 1: systems starting under eighty bucks, home security just got easier.

- 30:00Speaker 1: so much mother for having me. Man, really, thank you.
- 30:05Speaker 1: There was a lot of titles I throw out there
- 30:06Speaker 1: now was so, which one do you own up to? Writer, filmmaker, director,
- 30:10Speaker 1: idea generator? Which one of those titles you claiming today? No,
- 30:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna claim real person. Awesome claim real real person? Man? Person?
- 30:22Speaker 1: Where does the real person come from? Where you based from? Uh?
- 30:25Speaker 1: These ideas that you started generating? Where were you boring in?
- 30:29Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm born in Chicago, Illinois. I'm he's been Gary, Indiana. Um,
- 30:34Speaker 1: spent a lot of time now in in northern California,
- 30:38Speaker 1: ended up um moving there and living there for for
- 30:42Speaker 1: a while now. But still all my families in the Midwest. Um,
- 30:46Speaker 1: so I'm kind of like a have a cluster of
- 30:49Speaker 1: different energies around me. Man. You know, the Midwest is
- 30:52Speaker 1: born and bred and me. But then at the same time,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I have to got the energy in the in the
- 30:58Speaker 1: in the in the passion from the from the Northern
- 31:00Speaker 1: California world as well. It's interesting, you know, writer producer
- 31:06Speaker 1: that sitcoms and produce movies, and people always ask me.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I tried to. I can't really give them a journey
- 31:12Speaker 1: on how they could be successful because I was a
- 31:14Speaker 1: former stand up comic, my degree in mathematics and uh
- 31:17Speaker 1: managed Steve Harvey. So what was your path to get
- 31:20Speaker 1: into where you are right now? What are some of
- 31:22Speaker 1: the steps that you took of people who helped you
- 31:25Speaker 1: get to where you're at today. Well, you know, my
- 31:30Speaker 1: my back run is really different, man. I was. I
- 31:34Speaker 1: was playing ball. Man, I'm a basketball player, and uh,
- 31:37Speaker 1: for my entire life, that's what I did coming out
- 31:39Speaker 1: of Gary, That's what I did throughout high school. That's
- 31:42Speaker 1: what I did. End up being good enough to actually
- 31:45Speaker 1: get a shot to play overseas and you know, playing
- 31:48Speaker 1: professional ball. And while I was over there, you know,
- 31:52Speaker 1: you never ever have an idea, man like what guy
- 31:55Speaker 1: has in store for you. That's why you just gotta
- 31:57Speaker 1: always keep your eyes opening, your energy. Oh and as
- 32:00Speaker 1: well to receive um. While I was over there, Man,
- 32:03Speaker 1: I just always had been a fan of film, love movies, man,
- 32:08Speaker 1: like every other kid could quote movies, same movies. Man,
- 32:12Speaker 1: My friends get thrown out of class in high school
- 32:14Speaker 1: for being silly doing movies, you know. And Uh, here
- 32:17Speaker 1: I am man overseas in Germany playing ball, and uh
- 32:21Speaker 1: at the time, my girlfriend what she was doing when
- 32:24Speaker 1: she was sending me DVDs, and I would get these
- 32:27Speaker 1: DVDs and watch the movies. And because I didn't speak
- 32:29Speaker 1: the language and the and the television was in German,
- 32:32Speaker 1: I ended up going through the movie so fast. I
- 32:35Speaker 1: started watching the making of those movies, so making up DVDs. Um,
- 32:40Speaker 1: you know, bonus feats are ats, like all those types
- 32:43Speaker 1: of things is what I would scan through. And uh,
- 32:46Speaker 1: I became more interested in like how movies were made
- 32:48Speaker 1: and actually watching them. So I would actually watch that
- 32:51Speaker 1: person did watch the film. And um, little did I know, man,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I was, you know, going through a metamorphosis. Man, I
- 32:59Speaker 1: was chance formal right there in that moment in time
- 33:03Speaker 1: in Germany into a filmmaker and did did not know it.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Um ended up finishing, you know, playing over there, had
- 33:10Speaker 1: ended up writing the screenplay, which I thought was the
- 33:12Speaker 1: screenplay really was just an idea of a movie on
- 33:16Speaker 1: a mean tablet, brought it back. I went to California like, Yo,
- 33:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna go get this movie made, and everybody I
- 33:23Speaker 1: know it was like, Yo, what what are you talking about.
- 33:25Speaker 1: I'm like, I got the script, I got an idea.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Let me see the script. And look, man, it's the
- 33:29Speaker 1: words written under tablet. I'm like, Yo, this is dope.
- 33:32Speaker 1: But I was able to pitch it and people was like, man,
- 33:34Speaker 1: that's a really good idea for a movie. Man. And uh.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I took that man and went to Hollywood, and for
- 33:40Speaker 1: like two years, everywhere I went I was told no,
- 33:43Speaker 1: laughed at you know what I mean, like, what are
- 33:45Speaker 1: you talking about? That's how you do. What you need
- 33:47Speaker 1: to do is like you gotta write script, and here's
- 33:49Speaker 1: how you write script. And I learned in the fly man. Eventually, um,
- 33:54Speaker 1: after about three years of really trying to pursue this
- 33:57Speaker 1: particular idea that I had had met everybody in the
- 34:01Speaker 1: world that you're not supposed to meet. You know what
- 34:03Speaker 1: I mean that all the people like, yo, you met
- 34:06Speaker 1: that dude. That's the words dude on the planet. I'm like, Okay,
- 34:08Speaker 1: well I've met him place, you know, and went around
- 34:11Speaker 1: and around, and finally, man, a young man came to
- 34:14Speaker 1: me one day. I was like, man, listen, a good guy, man,
- 34:18Speaker 1: and you really were trying to do it the right way.
- 34:20Speaker 1: He was like, let me just be honest with you.
- 34:22Speaker 1: He's like, mostly studios they're not gonna make you a move.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Probably like for you to make it, you're gonna have
- 34:27Speaker 1: to go make your own film. What do you mean,
- 34:30Speaker 1: what do you mean to make my own film? He's like,
- 34:32Speaker 1: you gotta go get your money right, just scrimp and
- 34:36Speaker 1: go make your movie. And I had never heard of
- 34:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I never even thought about
- 34:42Speaker 1: it that way. I just thought you could go and
- 34:44Speaker 1: and uh, man, that changed my entire trajectory of what
- 34:48Speaker 1: I was doing and how I was doing it. And
- 34:51Speaker 1: a year later, Man, instead of me going to knocking
- 34:53Speaker 1: on doors and asking people, could you please give me,
- 34:57Speaker 1: could you please help me? Could you please take good
- 34:59Speaker 1: chance on, the conversation directly went from me saying, hey,
- 35:04Speaker 1: let me put my money together, let me find people
- 35:06Speaker 1: that could invest in me in my project, and uh, scrape, scratch, crawl,
- 35:12Speaker 1: do whatever I need to do and make my whole
- 35:13Speaker 1: movie and That's what I did. Man in the first
- 35:17Speaker 1: the first film set the First movie said the first
- 35:20Speaker 1: time I was ever in a production, it was mine
- 35:25Speaker 1: and I knew nothing else since that point, Man. And
- 35:27Speaker 1: as I was going, you know, stop being someteen fourteen years,
- 35:31Speaker 1: that's been the course I've been on the entire time. Awesome. Now,
- 35:35Speaker 1: when I wanted to say his background, he's worked with
- 35:38Speaker 1: talent like Naomi Harris, Michael Coulter or my culture. You
- 35:43Speaker 1: know him. That's a man luk Uh making good, Michael Eally.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Then it's Quaid, Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, Robert Downey Jr.
- 35:58Speaker 1: This is from a guy who was in Germany watching
- 36:01Speaker 1: video tapes, got together and didn't let no dream killer
- 36:05Speaker 1: get in his way when he wrote his idea down.
- 36:07Speaker 1: That's what those dream killers are. Rough out that they everywhere.
- 36:10Speaker 1: They could be your parents, they can be your friends,
- 36:13Speaker 1: they could be your cousins, your co workers, people sitting
- 36:16Speaker 1: right next to you. Always tell people the dream killer
- 36:18Speaker 1: can be you when you look in the mirror, if
- 36:19Speaker 1: you start believing what they say. And so here's Dean
- 36:22Speaker 1: Taylor sitting over there playing basketball. See I always tell
- 36:27Speaker 1: people you don't know where your success is gonna come
- 36:30Speaker 1: from or we're gonna drive you to success. But he
- 36:32Speaker 1: has a new movie starring Michael Eally making good then
- 36:37Speaker 1: it's Quaid called The Intruder. Tell us about that movie,
- 36:42Speaker 1: tell us about the cast in that movie, because Michael
- 36:44Speaker 1: Eally was just on the show, So I know about
- 36:46Speaker 1: the movie, and I know the talents of Michael really
- 36:49Speaker 1: and he was just telling how great this movie and
- 36:51Speaker 1: then his quite. I know him because he and I
- 36:53Speaker 1: graduated from the same college, University of Houston, So I
- 36:56Speaker 1: got some relationships with you. Dar Taylor. Okay, man, I
- 37:00Speaker 1: love it. Man. Look here's the thing, the movie, the
- 37:03Speaker 1: and Trutor. Man, I feel like you know, and I'm
- 37:06Speaker 1: saying this because this is you know, at this point,
- 37:10Speaker 1: I'm giving the team. This is fourteen years into making
- 37:14Speaker 1: in terms of like me getting to that film making
- 37:16Speaker 1: that movie. Um, you know, every time you do something, man,
- 37:21Speaker 1: you try to one up it. You know what I mean.
- 37:23Speaker 1: You're trying to grow. You trying to figure out how
- 37:25Speaker 1: do you do it better as a filmmaker, as a writer,
- 37:27Speaker 1: as an actor, as an Entertainer's like, how do I
- 37:30Speaker 1: keep getting better? And um, I was just finishing the
- 37:34Speaker 1: movie traffic Um and the script was handed to me
- 37:38Speaker 1: by producer named Mark Bird and he was like, man,
- 37:42Speaker 1: the I just keep thinking about you. I got this screenplay.
- 37:45Speaker 1: He was like, no one would get this but you.
- 37:47Speaker 1: And he was like, just reading it, told what you think.
- 37:49Speaker 1: And I remember reading it on my phone and I
- 37:51Speaker 1: finished reading it like in thirty five minutes, and I said, man,
- 37:54Speaker 1: this is incredible. And what I loved about the screenplay
- 37:59Speaker 1: was it was unconventional, it was different. It was a thriller,
- 38:04Speaker 1: but at the same time, inside of the screenplay, I
- 38:07Speaker 1: love this this post of this guy, Charlie Peck. These
- 38:12Speaker 1: guys just kept bothering these people. And although you're a
- 38:15Speaker 1: film fan, you love movies, you know what I mean.
- 38:17Speaker 1: You love you love get Out, if you love the signing,
- 38:21Speaker 1: you know any of these cool movies that you could
- 38:23Speaker 1: think of Predator right, every film has and antagging is
- 38:28Speaker 1: something that you like. Man, we got get rid of
- 38:30Speaker 1: that thing, you know what I mean. And I had
- 38:33Speaker 1: never read anything that was like locked into a location
- 38:36Speaker 1: like that, and I said, man, this is great, and
- 38:40Speaker 1: Blake gotta do everything else. Man. After read that, I said,
- 38:43Speaker 1: I want to make this film. And you know, obviously,
- 38:46Speaker 1: now everything has to happen. You know, I am. I
- 38:48Speaker 1: am the only independent filmmaker and studio brand in Hollywood
- 38:57Speaker 1: right now doing this. So every movie that I made,
- 39:00Speaker 1: I have to go get the financing. One I'm casting,
- 39:05Speaker 1: you know, through relationships. I'm reaching out to cinematographers through
- 39:10Speaker 1: emails right like, I'm bad guy. And nothing has changed
- 39:14Speaker 1: the only thing that's happened now is there's a resume
- 39:16Speaker 1: where people now when I write the letter or reach out,
- 39:19Speaker 1: people like, oh, I know who you are. Dennis Quaid
- 39:21Speaker 1: was an interesting get man, because when I read the script,
- 39:25Speaker 1: I thought Dennis Quaid was my first choice. Did not
- 39:28Speaker 1: know Dennis Quaid had no idea Dennis would even think
- 39:31Speaker 1: about doing a movie like this, And um, everyone was like, man,
- 39:35Speaker 1: he came in the Dennis Quais, I don't do this,
- 39:37Speaker 1: you know. It was like why not? And I was like,
- 39:39Speaker 1: I wrote Dennis Quaid a letter, and I shared the
- 39:42Speaker 1: letter through his manager and his agent, and I gave
- 39:45Speaker 1: it to them a few times and said please. His
- 39:47Speaker 1: manager and agent got the letter, was like, man, this
- 39:49Speaker 1: is great. Who's gonna send it to Dinner's gonna read it?
- 39:52Speaker 1: He read the letter, read the script. Next thing I know, Man,
- 39:56Speaker 1: I was on a phone call with Dennis Quaid this
- 40:00Speaker 1: quiet and I was like, oh my god, this is
- 40:03Speaker 1: quite so I'm like dripping out. I'm talking to him
- 40:06Speaker 1: on the phone and he's like, man, I love the screenplay,
- 40:10Speaker 1: love your letter. When do we start? And that blew
- 40:14Speaker 1: my mind. There. It was a life mean, life changing
- 40:17Speaker 1: moment for me, you know what I mean, Not because
- 40:20Speaker 1: it was just you know, about getting him in the movie,
- 40:22Speaker 1: but what it was, man, when you when you black
- 40:25Speaker 1: or white, black or white, well you have an opportunity man,
- 40:29Speaker 1: to work with someone that's legendary, you know what I mean.
- 40:33Speaker 1: And this is coming from a place to wear it.
- 40:34Speaker 1: And he don't need no job, you know what I mean.
- 40:37Speaker 1: It's one thing you get the man you need a
- 40:39Speaker 1: job like no, this is this is quake, man, you
- 40:42Speaker 1: know what I mean for him to pick up the
- 40:43Speaker 1: phone and call you and say, Man, I love your
- 40:45Speaker 1: vision and what you're talking about. I want you to
- 40:48Speaker 1: direct me in this. For me, it was the first
- 40:51Speaker 1: time while I was like, man, Okay, now the heat
- 40:55Speaker 1: is on. You've done all the running, you've been running
- 40:58Speaker 1: for fourteen years on to me, and now you get
- 41:01Speaker 1: to the start line. Now right then, I've working years.
- 41:04Speaker 1: That was iconic for me, man, And the movie was beautiful.
- 41:07Speaker 1: So we got there. And I would tell you, man,
- 41:10Speaker 1: if you're an audience member and you're listening to this show,
- 41:13Speaker 1: if you want to see something that makes you scream
- 41:17Speaker 1: at the movie screen, this is the movie we This
- 41:21Speaker 1: is the movie. If you're a fan of The Shining,
- 41:23Speaker 1: This is the movie. If you're a fan of When
- 41:25Speaker 1: a Stranger Cars, this is the movie. If you love
- 41:28Speaker 1: Get Out, this is the movie right quiet place, Um.
- 41:32Speaker 1: It has all of the elements, and that's everything. You're laughing,
- 41:37Speaker 1: you're talking back to the people on the in the movie,
- 41:39Speaker 1: and ultimately at the very end of the film, the
- 41:42Speaker 1: bottom drops out and you go, what the hell is
- 41:45Speaker 1: going on? It's that great. And we had a lady
- 41:49Speaker 1: um in Kansas City too nights ago pass out in
- 41:52Speaker 1: the theater screaming. And I tell you that experience for
- 41:57Speaker 1: me as a filmmaker was everything. Because you're like, oh,
- 42:01Speaker 1: mass he okay, yeah, she's good, we got it, we
- 42:05Speaker 1: did it, you know what I mean. You're like, yeah,
- 42:08Speaker 1: but it's like, you know, it's an incredible experience, man.
- 42:10Speaker 1: But making a movie like This Man is not about
- 42:13Speaker 1: you know, it's it's a It's a combination of everything.
- 42:16Speaker 1: It's a combination of you knowing what you're doing as
- 42:18Speaker 1: a filmmaker, the actors hitting the ten and then man,
- 42:21Speaker 1: it's the universe and guys saying, man, you got lightning
- 42:24Speaker 1: in the bottle for today. You know what I mean.
- 42:26Speaker 1: And that's what makes a special man. And we did
- 42:29Speaker 1: something really really special with this film. And and what
- 42:31Speaker 1: I'm most proud of is I promise you. I promise you.
- 42:37Speaker 1: This is like you know what you talk about people's
- 42:40Speaker 1: performance and films that we talked about The Shiny because
- 42:44Speaker 1: of you know, uh Jack Nicholson. We talked about, you know,
- 42:49Speaker 1: Batman because of Heath Ledger. At times, this is the
- 42:52Speaker 1: movie where you would talk about Dennis quad and we'll
- 42:55Speaker 1: we'll remember what he did in this movie. It's incredible. Ammi,
- 43:01Speaker 1: I gotta bring you back, talk about the other projects.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Use special because you know, to talk about your brain.
- 43:07Speaker 1: I was looking for a better way to check in
- 43:09Speaker 1: on our house while I was at work, and a
- 43:11Speaker 1: friend recommended Blink. I was skeptical, but decided to give
- 43:14Speaker 1: it a shot, and I bought a Blink camera system
- 43:16Speaker 1: with our last security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and
- 43:20Speaker 1: monthly fees. We couldn't get out of my bad. But
- 43:23Speaker 1: our Blink system is different. Their motion activated cameras that
- 43:26Speaker 1: work inside and outside their wire free, easy to set up,
- 43:29Speaker 1: and they run on two lithium batteries that last up
- 43:31Speaker 1: to two years total. Piece of mind and Blink camera
- 43:34Speaker 1: system started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions. We were
- 43:37Speaker 1: on vacation and I gotten to learn of my smartphone
- 43:39Speaker 1: that motion was detected at our front door. I checked
- 43:42Speaker 1: my Blink app and I saw it was just my
- 43:44Speaker 1: cool new device being delivered. Hey, we agreed no new
- 43:47Speaker 1: devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding. With Blink camera
- 43:51Speaker 1: systems starting under eighty bucks, home security just got easier.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Go to Blink Protected dot Com, slash Secure, blink Protect
- 43:59Speaker 1: dot Com, slash Secure, blink Protect dot Com slash Secure.

- 45:13Speaker 1: My next guest is a fashion authority, stylist, designer, entrepreneur,
- 45:17Speaker 1: influencer and mentor. For over twenty five years, she has
- 45:21Speaker 1: been a renaissance woman at the forefront of shifts and fashion,
- 45:24Speaker 1: music and culture. She has acclaimed for creating iconic looks
- 45:28Speaker 1: that simultaneously capture an unfair to get him a moment
- 45:31Speaker 1: for setting the stage for what everyone will want to
- 45:33Speaker 1: wear next. How Fashion Academy mentors up and coming talents
- 45:38Speaker 1: and styling provided invaluable skills, and how to start a
- 45:42Speaker 1: career in the fashion industry. Please work on the Monday
- 45:45Speaker 1: making conversation Mesa Hilton. Hi, how are you? Thank you
- 45:52Speaker 1: for having me? Thank you for being on my show? Uh?
- 45:57Speaker 1: Where are you located there right now? I'm in New
- 46:00Speaker 1: York right now my favorite city. Uh? Or you're a
- 46:03Speaker 1: New Yorker? Did you your transplant? Tell me about that? Yes? No,
- 46:06Speaker 1: I'm from Mount Vernon, New York originally, which is our
- 46:10Speaker 1: Westchester County, the suburbs and um born and raised. Awesome.
- 46:16Speaker 1: So when once its iconic, you know, you talk about
- 46:20Speaker 1: you know, the most iconic is the you know, how
- 46:28Speaker 1: did these ideas come in your head? When it comes
- 46:29Speaker 1: to fashion? I want to get that personal you do.
- 46:33Speaker 1: What you're not gonna do is be oh, you know hello,
- 46:37Speaker 1: not with what you created. Not have you shocked the world.
- 46:41Speaker 1: You have to sell people on things that you fashion
- 46:44Speaker 1: and that they're a look good. Oh no, girl, don't
- 46:47Speaker 1: worry about It's gonna be on point. Well, first, on
- 46:53Speaker 1: my My creativity is very intuitive, right, So I'm inspired
- 46:58Speaker 1: by people I'm in. If it's a if it's a musician,
- 47:02Speaker 1: I'm inspired by their lyrics, by the ready them, by
- 47:05Speaker 1: the melody, by their music, by their performance, and um
- 47:09Speaker 1: from there, I just idea start to flow. And then
- 47:12Speaker 1: once the idea start to flow, I have to be
- 47:15Speaker 1: able to you know, organize them and put some put
- 47:18Speaker 1: them together and sell them to the client, but also
- 47:22Speaker 1: to the companies that they work for and potentially the
- 47:24Speaker 1: management and all of the decision makers because image is
- 47:28Speaker 1: an important part of selling any project or a part
- 47:32Speaker 1: of any clients. Um uh, you know, image, images, everything,
- 47:38Speaker 1: you know, So for me, it's like that's the process
- 47:41Speaker 1: I have to you know, I become inspired. I get
- 47:44Speaker 1: to know my clients as people first and find out
- 47:48Speaker 1: what their goals are, who they are, you know, what
- 47:51Speaker 1: they love, what they're into, and how they see themselves,
- 47:54Speaker 1: and then I go I take it from there. And
- 47:57Speaker 1: that's always been my gift. Even before I was a
- 47:59Speaker 1: fast and start was I was able to do that
- 48:01Speaker 1: with my friends, my aunties, my neighbors. I was styling
- 48:05Speaker 1: everyone get paid, because you're gonna get paid. The money
- 48:10Speaker 1: always comes, and so for me, it was about giving back.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I'm grateful for, you know, my journey. I'm grateful for
- 48:18Speaker 1: every every single opportunity that I had, and so for me,
- 48:21Speaker 1: it was a way of giving back to the next
- 48:23Speaker 1: generation that creative and so that's you know, it's a bit,
- 48:27Speaker 1: it's a it's a huge part of my legacy. And
- 48:30Speaker 1: I'm also an adjunct professor at s I T. And
- 48:36Speaker 1: I'm really really proud about that. So, you know, giving
- 48:39Speaker 1: back it's just really close to my heart. It's something
- 48:42Speaker 1: that um is important for me. When I nake it,
- 48:46Speaker 1: I want to bring other people forward with me, you know,
- 48:49Speaker 1: I want to share knowledge. One of my favorite quotes
- 48:52Speaker 1: is from my angel when you get gives, when you learn, teach,
- 48:56Speaker 1: and I lived by that awesome. Now let's talk about
- 48:59Speaker 1: the MC partnership. That's the entrepreneurship side of you, because
- 49:04Speaker 1: first of all, you started out just working your talent,
- 49:06Speaker 1: starting to establish your brand and just this is a hustle.
- 49:10Speaker 1: We all start out with a hustle, you know, trying
- 49:12Speaker 1: to just trying to get people to believe in. Then
- 49:14Speaker 1: you get a couple of steps out there, then all
- 49:16Speaker 1: of a sudden, somebody say Hey, you need to get
- 49:18Speaker 1: what's your name of your business business? Just just check
- 49:23Speaker 1: to my name. That's want the money. And so now
- 49:25Speaker 1: you're doing a major partnership with m c M. Tell
- 49:28Speaker 1: because the show is called money Making Conversations. Always like
- 49:31Speaker 1: to hear young entrepreneurs hear that story. How how did
- 49:35Speaker 1: that come about? Well, I've always been a big fan
- 49:38Speaker 1: of m c M since I was younger. Back in
- 49:41Speaker 1: the days, MCM was like one of the biggest factory brands,
- 49:45Speaker 1: believe it or not, bigger or more popular than Louis
- 49:49Speaker 1: Vuitton and Gucci. And so I remember my aunties having
- 49:52Speaker 1: those bags, and I remember the music artists and the
- 49:57Speaker 1: rappers that I looked up to. They were empty and
- 49:59Speaker 1: off us that dapper damn would be I'm creating, and
- 50:03Speaker 1: so m c M has always been really special and
- 50:05Speaker 1: close to my heart. And last April, I was hired
- 50:10Speaker 1: by m c MS to create some custom pieces for
- 50:13Speaker 1: Big Daddy Kane, Rhapsody and Ninth Wonder and it was
- 50:17Speaker 1: for the m c M Puma collaboration. So I created
- 50:20Speaker 1: custom pieces that would accent these sweatsuits that were MCM
- 50:25Speaker 1: and Puma for the Collapse and shortly after that I
- 50:30Speaker 1: was appointed global creative Partner because there was a huge
- 50:34Speaker 1: success and interest around what that. I think, you know
- 50:38Speaker 1: the custom pieces that I had created for the brand.
- 50:41Speaker 1: But the crazy part is that Beyonce, stylist for the
- 50:49Speaker 1: them m cm leave the trench that I made for
- 50:54Speaker 1: Big Daddy Kane, and she contacted me and was like,
- 50:57Speaker 1: I want one for Beyonce and I was absolutely started
- 51:03Speaker 1: clean off people off our table. Excuse me, excuse me
- 51:08Speaker 1: and so um so she told me, and so I said, okay,
- 51:11Speaker 1: you know, send me as her measurements. Of course I'll
- 51:14Speaker 1: get I'll make you run right away. And so like
- 51:17Speaker 1: a couple of weeks went by and I reached out.
- 51:19Speaker 1: I said, hey, Serena, you still want to jacket and
- 51:21Speaker 1: she said yes, but I just want to make sure
- 51:23Speaker 1: she's gonna wear it before you go through all the
- 51:25Speaker 1: trouble to make it. And I said, oh man to myself,
- 51:27Speaker 1: but I was like, okay, well we want to make
- 51:29Speaker 1: it anyway, whether she wears it or not, but I'd
- 51:31Speaker 1: be honored. So maybe about another week went by and
- 51:36Speaker 1: Zerina calls me and she's like, Mesa, I need a
- 51:39Speaker 1: fult and CM. Look, okay, I need the jacket, but
- 51:42Speaker 1: I need a full look and I need it in
- 51:44Speaker 1: three days, and I need you to get it shipped
- 51:46Speaker 1: to Paris. I said, has anybody passed any money around yet?
- 51:53Speaker 1: That's all I wanted as as we show, I'll excuse me,
- 51:58Speaker 1: miss Hilton, where is the money? It does? It does?
- 52:05Speaker 1: And she was ready to pay like she was weighing.
- 52:08Speaker 1: So she all the business got taken care of, and
- 52:11Speaker 1: I just I when you know again, I told you
- 52:14Speaker 1: my creativity is intuitive. I just saw a boost, I
- 52:18Speaker 1: saw a penny, I saw the motorcycle trench, and then
- 52:22Speaker 1: Serena wanted to pay a skate um. So we made
- 52:25Speaker 1: air rings, a cap at, a trench, a boost with
- 52:29Speaker 1: a machine penny it looked like a body suit, made
- 52:32Speaker 1: it all in three days over Memorial Day weekend, and
- 52:35Speaker 1: had a ship world that expressed to Paris. Now at
- 52:38Speaker 1: this point, I still don't know what it's for. I've

- 53:13Speaker 1: used this the images from the video for international campaign
- 53:17Speaker 1: which was used worldwide. So that was another iconic moment.
- 53:22Speaker 1: It was another moment um that became bigger than life.
- 53:27Speaker 1: I mean she the pictures from the video where in
- 53:30Speaker 1: Tom Square it was about eight billboards and Tom Square alone.

- 53:37Speaker 1: on on pay phone. Uh you know our payphones. It
- 53:41Speaker 1: was everywhere. You know, you gotta come back on my

- 54:24Speaker 1: We were on vacation and I gotten to learn of
