- 1:25Speaker 2: How you doing, my brother?
- 1:26Speaker 3: How you doing? Brother?
- 1:27Speaker 4: You know I love you because you say the whole
- 1:29Speaker 4: word conversation.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I got that, man, Las. My wife be on me.
- 1:35Speaker 3: She be on me, brother.
- 1:37Speaker 2: She's the number one good critic.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I'm so lazy with these words. I do combo and
- 1:43Speaker 4: right there convo.
- 1:44Speaker 3: You know what I mean. I don't give them the
- 1:45Speaker 3: whole word, but you're giving them a whole, full course meal.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And she's gonna love that, and I appreciate it. Man, Earthquake.
- 1:53Speaker 1: You know, we all go, and you know, we go
- 1:55Speaker 1: way back in the comedy, all the way back to
- 1:57Speaker 1: Bat's comic view. In fact, let me just tell y'all
- 2:00Speaker 1: private store, I've done it on my show. I met
- 2:02Speaker 1: him on stage in Atlanta in nineteen ninety five. I
- 2:07Speaker 1: came into town as a held comedy writer off to
- 2:11Speaker 1: Steve Harvey ABC sitcoll and that brother was hosting, and
- 2:16Speaker 1: he was waiting on me, and boy, he tore that
- 2:18Speaker 1: stage up, and I learned what Earthquake was is and
- 2:23Speaker 1: why he's a legend today because you were fund of
- 2:26Speaker 1: that night, brother, and it allowed me to see at
- 2:29Speaker 1: a young age that just just unbridled, unfiltered comedy. Talk
- 2:34Speaker 1: about doing comedy in ninety five and now you're doing
- 2:37Speaker 1: the comedy because we went to that little Wok period. Well,
- 2:40Speaker 1: you couldn't say certain things on stage or they take
- 2:43Speaker 1: in your career. So you went in ninety five, went
- 2:46Speaker 1: through that Wok period. How'd you deal with that? And
- 2:49Speaker 1: now back to during the comedy that you were comfortable doing?
- 2:53Speaker 4: Well, I mean for me anyway, I don't know about
- 2:56Speaker 4: everybody else in the game. I have always been comfortent
- 3:00Speaker 4: with my my comedy because I always could tell if
- 3:06Speaker 4: I was ever questioned on the jokes where the origin
- 3:09Speaker 4: came from, and it never came from a hostility, bigotry, hatred.
- 3:16Speaker 4: And I think I stayed with my new next Fok
- 3:19Speaker 4: special is I always stay with the joke. I think
- 3:24Speaker 4: the problem that we have now and is comedians are
- 3:27Speaker 4: not being funny. They're trying that. You know what I
- 3:31Speaker 4: think they get in trouble is when they try to
- 3:33Speaker 4: be controversial or try to be shocking or be a
- 3:37Speaker 4: shock joke. But if you root it in jokes, if
- 3:41Speaker 4: you root it from humor, then you know people even
- 3:45Speaker 4: if they don't agree with it, they can least see
- 3:47Speaker 4: where you came from, of the origin of it, and
- 3:50Speaker 4: it came from a joke perspective.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Ninety five.
- 3:53Speaker 4: I was free because I didn't know if this is
- 3:56Speaker 4: what I wanted to do or not. So I was
- 3:58Speaker 4: kind of like I didn't have to burden of occupation,
- 4:03Speaker 4: you know what I mean. I didn't know if this
- 4:04Speaker 4: was what I wanted to do. I just got out
- 4:07Speaker 4: the military, and people was giving me money for me
- 4:10Speaker 4: just being a food and I was better than working
- 4:13Speaker 4: for somebody for eight hours. So I was in the
- 4:16Speaker 4: transition of coming out the military. I didn't you know,
- 4:19Speaker 4: I tell everybody my periods more than anything. This wasn't
- 4:23Speaker 4: no epiphany. I didn't just say, oh, this is what
- 4:26Speaker 4: I wanted to do. Matter of fact, I didn't even
- 4:28Speaker 4: know being a comedian was an occupation.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I'm about Richard Pride in.
- 4:32Speaker 4: The movie, but I never knew about him doing stand
- 4:35Speaker 4: up and stuff like that. And so as time of
- 4:39Speaker 4: not doing nothing but comedy, and you know, at a
- 4:43Speaker 4: high level, I knew and I still know, there's nobody
- 4:48Speaker 4: else gonna pay me this kind of money for this
- 4:50Speaker 4: type of effort.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I just came to the conclusion, this is my destiny.
- 4:56Speaker 3: A payte.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I could do that for you.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Leave our coach in the co check and it's just
- 5:03Speaker 4: as the body I folks to stay at Jesus, you know, you.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Know, earthquake man, You know, I was just I was.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I was laughing off Ara with you're in and all
- 5:13Speaker 1: seriousness about your career. And I look at my career,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, and when you're twenties, you never see forty,
- 5:19Speaker 1: and you definitely don't see fifty and sixty is never
- 5:22Speaker 1: even a thought in your mind when you're young. But
- 5:24Speaker 1: when you hit those those those those landmark years, forty decades,
- 5:29Speaker 1: fifty decades. I'm in my sixties, and you really get
- 5:34Speaker 1: a sense of your career and what you have are
- 5:36Speaker 1: accomplishing because that's what you're doing. You're accomplishing. You're still
- 5:39Speaker 1: in the game. You still take me specials, you're still
- 5:42Speaker 1: selling out. That's a career. And did you think about that?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Do you think about that sometimes?
- 5:48Speaker 2: Earthquake?
- 5:51Speaker 3: To be honest with you know, because it's for me anyway.
- 5:56Speaker 4: I I try to do this job with that's form
- 6:01Speaker 4: of resistance. And what I mean, I don't want to
- 6:05Speaker 4: get I never got caught up in the hooplah of it.
- 6:08Speaker 3: You know what I mean. I never use it as
- 6:11Speaker 3: a weapon.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I never use it as a person who I get
- 6:15Speaker 4: offended when other men tell other men's what journeys they
- 6:19Speaker 4: should have took, and whatever journey they took, what mistake
- 6:23Speaker 4: they meant they made, and you highlighted, who are you
- 6:27Speaker 4: to tell another man how he should live? And who
- 6:30Speaker 4: are you to sit on someone on a throne like
- 6:33Speaker 4: your guard and criticize this man for his mistake or never.
- 6:37Speaker 4: I just have a problem with that, And I always
- 6:39Speaker 4: had a problem with that, with this occupation and how
- 6:43Speaker 4: it makes other people treat you, no matter if they're
- 6:47Speaker 4: your kids, to your mother, your father, and the rest
- 6:50Speaker 4: of it.
- 6:50Speaker 3: The deceit in it.
- 6:51Speaker 4: So I kind of like just say, can I just
- 6:54Speaker 4: get enough out of it that I can live to
- 6:56Speaker 4: the standard of living I can without exchange, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 4: making those sacrifices.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So that was always my biggest thing.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Absolutely earthquake, when you look at the whole aspect of
- 7:08Speaker 1: your career, you know, when you did the legendary I'm
- 7:11Speaker 1: watching on Netflix and just laughing, laughing because you was
- 7:13Speaker 1: talking about the real prospects of you know, colono enoscopy.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You know, that's a real story that was suddenly historically funny.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But in a sense you also educating men that they
- 7:27Speaker 1: should do this. Do you do you do comedy to
- 7:31Speaker 1: educate or just do comedy to be funny.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I'm both to be honest with you, you know, when
- 7:36Speaker 4: I experienced that, God, you know, I just feel my people,
- 7:43Speaker 4: especially black men, we have so many stigmas that's keeping
- 7:48Speaker 4: us from living. And shout out to Dion, you know Sanders,
- 7:53Speaker 4: prime time coach Sanders, he's breaking some of those.
- 7:57Speaker 3: You know, Like on my show, we had this.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Question on said if you had to wear it depends
- 8:05Speaker 4: diaper and still live and you couldn't have the function
- 8:09Speaker 4: of your you know, your main muscle between your legs
- 8:12Speaker 4: to work. Would you want to leave this earth or
- 8:15Speaker 4: would you go or live with And half of my
- 8:17Speaker 4: audience who was I mean half of my guests who
- 8:21Speaker 4: was male, said they'd rather leave the earth. Then you know,
- 8:26Speaker 4: to check out and to go through that situation, and
- 8:29Speaker 4: that just lets you know how they degrade the quality
- 8:33Speaker 4: I mean life itself. As long as you live in
- 8:35Speaker 4: you can find quality of life. And your manhood is
- 8:39Speaker 4: not justified between your legs is who.
- 8:42Speaker 3: You are as a man.
- 8:43Speaker 4: So I really always tried to just educate our people
- 8:48Speaker 4: to say get checked. You know, this country, this country,
- 8:53Speaker 4: and my humble opinion, owe us this. If nothing else
- 8:57Speaker 4: than the healthcare, they didn't pay us for reparation.
- 9:00Speaker 3: The least they can do is take care of us.
- 9:02Speaker 3: And I'll be damned if.
- 9:04Speaker 4: They put all these urgent kids.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Up in here around here.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And I'm gonna go home and do home remedies and
- 9:09Speaker 4: drink a ginger ale. I'm going in there. You're gonna
- 9:12Speaker 4: see me, you gonna you can. I know I ain't
- 9:16Speaker 4: got no health insurance.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I'm just hold you.
- 9:17Speaker 4: My name is signor whatever and Social Security five five
- 9:22Speaker 4: five find me when you want to. But you're gonna
- 9:24Speaker 4: do this. You're gonna do this whole body scam today.
- 9:28Speaker 4: You're gonna do this pet scam. You're gonna do You're
- 9:31Speaker 4: gonna do this MRI. You're gonna do this blood work today.
- 9:37Speaker 2: If you don't know who I'm talking to, I'm talking
- 9:39Speaker 2: to the comedy Icon. I'm gonna put the word capital
- 9:42Speaker 2: I c O n Icon earthquake. It's comedy.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you them when I when you see
- 9:48Speaker 1: a funny person like Earthquake, they'll do things is just
- 9:51Speaker 1: stay in your mind forever.
- 9:53Speaker 2: It's one joke.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I will always remember him on BT's Comic View with
- 9:57Speaker 1: the o j joke and him.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Running around that stool, him running around that stool.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I will wake up out of the blue and just
- 10:05Speaker 1: laugh because I just remember that moment and that becomes iconic.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And when you do humor like that and people remind
- 10:13Speaker 1: you of those moments.
- 10:15Speaker 2: How do you feel earthquakes flattering?
- 10:17Speaker 4: Especially when it comes from a person of your high standards?
- 10:20Speaker 3: You?
- 10:21Speaker 4: You know, I remember, you know, you are always just
- 10:27Speaker 4: the just the orator, the person that you can come
- 10:30Speaker 4: to and get the honest opinion on it. I just
- 10:34Speaker 4: keep I write it from I come from truth and
- 10:37Speaker 4: the truth. Like that joke, it originated from how do
- 10:42Speaker 4: you kill two people with one knife? What was the
- 10:46Speaker 4: first one doing when you were stabbing the second one?
- 10:50Speaker 4: You know what I mean? Well the first one? What
- 10:53Speaker 4: was the second one doing? So it starts from there.
- 10:55Speaker 4: So then you say the formulation of the joke. Okay,
- 11:00Speaker 4: if he stabbed the dude first, what was the sister doing?
- 11:03Speaker 3: If she was black, She's like, oh Jay, what you
- 11:05Speaker 3: doing in them bushes?
- 11:09Speaker 4: Then if you stabbed the first him being fast, you
- 11:13Speaker 4: running around the car. You're trying to stab you like,
- 11:15Speaker 4: go ahead with that old ja. I ain't got none
- 11:17Speaker 4: to do with that, right, So that's all that, you
- 11:20Speaker 4: know what I mean, So you you break it down.
- 11:22Speaker 4: That's how it comes with. It comes from truth, and
- 11:25Speaker 4: then I put the joke on top of it. Yeah,
- 11:29Speaker 4: And that's what ladies and gentlemen.
- 11:31Speaker 1: If you can find it on YouTube, it is one
- 11:33Speaker 1: of the funniest but serious. He's taking a serious matter.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That's the brilliant of comedia. That's the breeze of Dave
- 11:40Speaker 1: Chappelle and other comics like him. Chris Rock, I could
- 11:43Speaker 1: name a few that. A will to take moments that
- 11:46Speaker 1: you might deem, you know, off limits, and next thing
- 11:49Speaker 1: you know, you bending over in tears because you went
- 11:53Speaker 1: at it with a third eye. A bent approach that
- 11:56Speaker 1: people now find see the humorous side because we gotta laugh.
- 12:00Speaker 2: A life can be too sad for us.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Correct, Yes, I mean, I mean laughter is the best
- 12:05Speaker 4: healing ever. You cannot have a good time without laughter.
- 12:10Speaker 4: It's necessary. There's no way you can describe a great
- 12:14Speaker 4: time and enjoyment time, family time anywhere that y'all had
- 12:19Speaker 4: a great time.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Laughter is a main ingredient.
- 12:23Speaker 1: You know, when you get famous earthquake, you know, you
- 12:25Speaker 1: don't even have to ask to be in the news.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You know, they just you know, you walking down as
- 12:29Speaker 1: people taking pictures. You know, you have these relationships. People
- 12:33Speaker 1: start tell you where they're going. And when did you
- 12:36Speaker 1: realize you were a fame with earthquakes?
- 12:38Speaker 4: Ooh, when my mother, God rest her soul, start asking
- 12:42Speaker 4: for more money, you know what I mean?
- 12:49Speaker 3: And we look forward, she used to say. And the truth, man.
- 12:53Speaker 4: It's the first of the money, and the mail man
- 12:55Speaker 4: ain't came back as my house.
- 12:58Speaker 3: It's the first of the month.
- 13:00Speaker 4: That mail is the fifth, and that male man ain't
- 13:02Speaker 4: dropping nothing on my I had to tell her. I said, listen, Mama,
- 13:05Speaker 4: I'm your I'm your I'm your son, not your husband.
- 13:10Speaker 3: You done, man, Mama, You understand I told you so.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Your mama was having money making conversations before we shied
- 13:19Speaker 1: brought the show. Money made conversations because that's a favor
- 13:21Speaker 1: due to you. I was same thing with my father.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I remember my father because I'm named after my father,
- 13:26Speaker 1: and I would never use junior and he was all
- 13:29Speaker 1: he was good with that, and then he went in
- 13:31Speaker 1: the store one day. It was a Seizon Robucks and
- 13:34Speaker 1: the guy asked him. He said, his name he Goes,
- 13:37Speaker 1: is your son that comedian? And that was right there.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It turned the lightbulb on my Oh to my dad
- 13:44Speaker 1: as to who I could be or who I was
- 13:47Speaker 1: after that day, brother, them jokes meant something to him. Earthquake,
- 13:52Speaker 1: you get the big.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Piece, big piece of chicken, You get advitage, all the
- 13:57Speaker 4: family functions. Asked your question, what you think? When should
- 14:01Speaker 4: we you the one travel a lot. Where should we go?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Please don't go anywhere.
- 14:07Speaker 5: We'll be right back with more money Making Conversations master Class.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Welcome back to Money Making Conversation master Class with me
- 14:17Speaker 5: Rashaun McDonald.
- 14:19Speaker 3: You know, let's get to.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Talk to business, your money Making Conversations master Class with earthquake.
- 14:24Speaker 1: But this is about business and a lot of people
- 14:26Speaker 1: think it's about jokes, and it's about you know, I
- 14:30Speaker 1: always tell people in the early goings, I would I
- 14:33Speaker 1: would drive to a gig just for the meal. I
- 14:35Speaker 1: would drive to a gig just to get to gas
- 14:38Speaker 1: to pay for the gas. I just burnt to get
- 14:40Speaker 1: to that gig. And then all of a sudden you
- 14:42Speaker 1: get become an opener the middle lac and then become
- 14:44Speaker 1: a headliner, and then all of a sudden you get
- 14:46Speaker 1: the first class seats, you can ask for a junior
- 14:49Speaker 1: suite kings tweet get starting to when does the business
- 14:53Speaker 1: aspect of your career and how do you start putting
- 14:57Speaker 1: the people around your earthquake to trust that they can
- 15:00Speaker 1: can move your career forward.
- 15:01Speaker 4: That is a constant change and recalibration every time, because
- 15:07Speaker 4: when you're dealing with people, people change, and certain people
- 15:12Speaker 4: only qualified to do the business at the level that
- 15:16Speaker 4: you hired them at.
- 15:17Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 15:18Speaker 4: As you succeed, as you go farther, you have to
- 15:22Speaker 4: get more professional people that's qualified to deal with you
- 15:26Speaker 4: at that level.
- 15:27Speaker 3: I think you know.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Loyalty has its place, but as some competency is more
- 15:33Speaker 4: important and you have to continue to look at your
- 15:37Speaker 4: people and say, hey, though I hired you at this level,
- 15:42Speaker 4: I'm not an opener.
- 15:43Speaker 3: No more, I'm a headliner, and a headliner.
- 15:47Speaker 4: The job description you have right now needs to be
- 15:50Speaker 4: able to do this, so you need to learn to
- 15:52Speaker 4: do this. You can facilitate a headliner, not an opener,
- 15:57Speaker 4: and that's the hardest part because these are people that
- 16:00Speaker 4: you love and you care about. And that's where you
- 16:03Speaker 4: get the stigma that you know, as soon as he
- 16:05Speaker 4: made it, he got real all these good people. Well,
- 16:08Speaker 4: Man Man, don't know how it was all right for
- 16:10Speaker 4: man Man to hold my social media when he was
- 16:12Speaker 4: just posting stuff.
- 16:13Speaker 3: But I'm a.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Network television style now those are not appropriate for a
- 16:18Speaker 4: television star.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Now you can't have to do.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Oh all due respect Man Man, being speaking for your company,
- 16:27Speaker 4: that's your global icon or global entity.
- 16:30Speaker 3: So that's the hardest part in You must.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Know when win is win. That has always been my
- 16:35Speaker 4: strength in my career. I have always knew when when
- 16:39Speaker 4: win is when when it's time to change, starting with
- 16:43Speaker 4: myself when it started to say, hey, no more drinking
- 16:46Speaker 4: on the show. Let the alcohol go. That's the fun
- 16:50Speaker 4: part of being entertainer. Goal the recreational drugs and the
- 16:56Speaker 4: hanging and the things that comes with the women and
- 17:00Speaker 4: all that. You just know when to when when you
- 17:02Speaker 4: need to go ahead and just shave that off and
- 17:04Speaker 4: make that transition.
- 17:07Speaker 2: That's I learned that in twenty three.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I learned that in twenty three what you just said,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I had the realization that everybody around me could not
- 17:16Speaker 1: do the job that I wanted them to do. But
- 17:19Speaker 1: I knew them a long time though, and those decisions
- 17:22Speaker 1: are hard to make because now you're making the decision
- 17:25Speaker 1: on their on paying their rent when they can't even
- 17:28Speaker 1: pay your rent. And that's a that's a true business statement.
- 17:32Speaker 1: In twenty twenty three, I was about to close. I
- 17:34Speaker 1: was about to my business were going to shut down
- 17:36Speaker 1: if I didn't make the decisions that earthquake just talked about.
- 17:40Speaker 2: That's a true statement that he just made. Because we
- 17:42Speaker 2: don't know how to.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Move emotions and business because they travel different lanes and if
- 17:49Speaker 1: you try to merge them, you will go thro correct.
- 17:52Speaker 4: And just to add to that, you know what I mean?
- 17:56Speaker 4: There we have no safety that when you were entrepreneurs.
- 18:00Speaker 4: There is no safety in that. There's no one else
- 18:02Speaker 4: you can call. There is no loan me me you
- 18:06Speaker 4: loan me?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Is you?
- 18:08Speaker 4: So you have to me personally. The way I look
- 18:12Speaker 4: at it is I tell my crew this all the time.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I said, God is blessing me with this opportunity to
- 18:19Speaker 4: be the leader in this.
- 18:20Speaker 3: If you have a better.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Plan than I do, show it, present it, and I'll
- 18:25Speaker 4: show you what a true Indian is, right.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right, But then the bigger picture is
- 18:33Speaker 1: always about the end game, and the endgame is when
- 18:36Speaker 1: you're standing there, you write in the check, and how
- 18:39Speaker 1: you distribute it should be tied to how you feel
- 18:43Speaker 1: and giving it to the people that you know can
- 18:44Speaker 1: do the right job, not because somebody say you owe me,
- 18:48Speaker 1: or I was there in the beginning, or I'm your ball,
- 18:51Speaker 1: I'm your girl, i'm your child. All these things come
- 18:55Speaker 1: into play, and you should gauge the importance of that
- 18:59Speaker 1: tied to how you distribute your money.
- 19:01Speaker 2: And that's the biggest.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Part about it. As you used to sitting and you.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Get higher and high into that altitude, they you know,
- 19:08Speaker 4: they they don't have they don't have no idea how
- 19:14Speaker 4: to and God bless their heart to facilitate that, you know,
- 19:18Speaker 4: because they was dealing with you on a certain level.
- 19:20Speaker 3: When you go to a higher level, they.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Their services is no longer needed for the salary that
- 19:27Speaker 4: you're paying them for because when you move into a
- 19:31Speaker 4: different realm, you know, it's a bigger company that covers.
- 19:35Speaker 3: All the things that they was doing. You know what
- 19:37Speaker 3: I mean. You know I'm paying two people. I'm paying
- 19:42Speaker 3: you because of my friend, but I'm.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Playing this o'ther professional person who covers your little thing too.
- 19:48Speaker 4: So I have to let you know you're going to
- 19:50Speaker 4: find something that's valuable to do because you longer you
- 19:53Speaker 4: can do this job to the to the level it
- 19:57Speaker 4: needs to be done on this level.
- 19:59Speaker 3: So that's the host a little bit.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Now, let's talk about this.
- 20:04Speaker 1: This these comedy specials that I never get invited to,
- 20:07Speaker 1: you know, the legendary. I'm watching television, you know, looking
- 20:11Speaker 1: at my wife going, you know, you know, it's so funny.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I watched TV Shu.
- 20:15Speaker 3: You know, earthquake.
- 20:16Speaker 2: That's my boy right there. You see.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You know, when you when you're married to somebody, you
- 20:20Speaker 1: are you with somebody they don't know sometimes your relationships
- 20:24Speaker 1: or your fame, you know.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And uh we laugh and just laugh and laugh. It's
- 20:29Speaker 2: my boy.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And then then she found out you came to Atlanta
- 20:34Speaker 1: and taped another comedy especially by the way, ladies and gentlemen,
- 20:37Speaker 1: I live in Atlanta, been here since two thousand and seven,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and he knows that. But I was not invited to
- 20:44Speaker 1: the comedy special. But but I told my wife, I know.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So with that being said, let's talk about that that
- 20:51Speaker 1: next comedy special. How did it come about what can
- 20:54Speaker 1: we expect from the brilliant earthquake?
- 20:58Speaker 3: It was matter of fame.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I had to really put this together real quickly because
- 21:05Speaker 4: I had penned in things that I had to deal
- 21:07Speaker 4: with and I really wanted to put this special on
- 21:10Speaker 4: the books. Plus I needed the money for this transition.
- 21:14Speaker 4: So it came together after the hit one we had before.
- 21:20Speaker 4: It'll be out in the next two months scheduling. I
- 21:26Speaker 4: came to Atlanta because that's where I was born in comedy.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I old Atlanta I wouldn't be I wouldn't be who
- 21:33Speaker 4: I am today without Atlanta. I didn't know what I
- 21:37Speaker 4: was going to do when I moved to Atlanta after
- 21:39Speaker 4: military never been there before.
- 21:41Speaker 3: They opened their arms.
- 21:42Speaker 4: They showed me it was just a great place for
- 21:45Speaker 4: me to nurture my talent. And I'm still eating off
- 21:48Speaker 4: the stuff I learned from Atlanta. So my first one
- 21:50Speaker 4: was at my natural born home where I'm from Washington,
- 21:53Speaker 4: d C. But my second one had to be at Atlanta.
- 21:58Speaker 4: And I ain't of a special. It's called joke telling business.
- 22:07Speaker 4: I'm in the joke telling business, and as a comedian,
- 22:12Speaker 4: I'm the reason I named that.
- 22:16Speaker 3: I am challenging all comedians to get back into the
- 22:19Speaker 3: joke telling business.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Too many keep comedians fly the banner of saying they comedians.
- 22:26Speaker 3: But where's the jokes? You know what I mean.
- 22:29Speaker 4: You're doing commentary, you're doing shot jocks, You're being You're
- 22:33Speaker 4: being a relationship guru. I'm a commentator on mats and.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Critic But where's the jokes? Where's the funny at? You
- 22:49Speaker 3: know what I mean?
- 22:50Speaker 4: So I just want to let people know only thing.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I'm just in the joke telling business. I'm not your pastor.
- 22:55Speaker 4: I'm not here to advise you. I'm not here to
- 22:58Speaker 4: criticize you. I am in the joke telling business. So
- 23:01Speaker 4: keep your criticism of me on the jokes because that's
- 23:05Speaker 4: the only.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Public thing that I'm sharing with you. You understand, you.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Have no right to come at me with anything else
- 23:13Speaker 4: but your your interpretation or criticism, criticism, or your opinion
- 23:19Speaker 4: on the jokes.
- 23:20Speaker 3: How I live my life, who I live my life,
- 23:22Speaker 3: what I am? I did not give that to you,
- 23:25Speaker 3: nor did I sell that to you. Know? Is that
- 23:28Speaker 3: for debate for you?
- 23:29Speaker 4: Because the only person who can judge me what I
- 23:31Speaker 4: should or should not be is God. Who are you
- 23:34Speaker 4: you understanding as a man and man, if you have
- 23:37Speaker 4: a problem with me other than the jokes, then come
- 23:40Speaker 4: see me and we can handle it. Man, the man
- 23:43Speaker 4: like men supposed to me.
- 23:47Speaker 3: You got a problem with it because I'm easy to find.
- 23:49Speaker 4: I got to schedule everywhere, and I'm sure you can
- 23:52Speaker 4: come pull up and say I don't like the way you.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Is and then we'll make the decision.
- 23:57Speaker 4: And where I'm from, Washington, DC, when you have a
- 23:59Speaker 4: problem with then you try to come.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Change it absolutely.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Earth Quig, you know, uh, it's stand up comedy.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I love you, I love you, and I'm just gonna
- 24:10Speaker 1: let everybody know if here's a show on series XM
- 24:13Speaker 1: radio show twenty eighteen, they approached him on the Kevin
- 24:17Speaker 1: Hart uh Laugh out Loud Series XM channel and it's
- 24:22Speaker 1: called Quake's House.
- 24:24Speaker 2: And if you if.
- 24:26Speaker 1: You're a fan of his stand up comedy, then you
- 24:29Speaker 1: need to start listening to this channel, especially this show,
- 24:33Speaker 1: because his commentary, his social commentary is I really believe
- 24:39Speaker 1: it's the genius of you, Earthquake. That third eye that
- 24:43Speaker 1: you have and how you twist it and and create
- 24:47Speaker 1: common sense to humor is pretty amazing. Talk to us
- 24:51Speaker 1: about your team and talk to us about why is
- 24:54Speaker 1: it why is.
- 24:55Speaker 2: It important to do your radio show quickly?
- 24:57Speaker 3: Well, I'm like you.
- 24:59Speaker 4: You know and out and tell people right here, and
- 25:01Speaker 4: I'm not just gashing if you have always provided opportunity
- 25:05Speaker 4: for comedians to expand the genre. I think, especially as
- 25:10Speaker 4: black comedians, we don't do that.
- 25:15Speaker 3: As others, as our contemporaries.
- 25:18Speaker 4: And what I mean is, you know you put them
- 25:21Speaker 4: on you whatever platform you ever been, when you were
- 25:25Speaker 4: Steve Harvey and y'all was doing all the different things
- 25:30Speaker 4: with the radio, you still provided opportunities for young comedians
- 25:34Speaker 4: such as myself to come on to be seen on
- 25:37Speaker 4: the biggest platform.
- 25:38Speaker 3: And that's what I wanted to do.
- 25:40Speaker 4: And started with my comedy club, and I learned to
- 25:43Speaker 4: uptel on comedy corner always any step forward I go.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I tried to bring put.
- 25:49Speaker 4: The gendre, especially black cousin, to give them a platform
- 25:52Speaker 4: to let them know the people know it's.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Not just me.
- 25:55Speaker 4: It's a lot of other comedians out here with different
- 25:58Speaker 4: styles and messages and stuff. Blake House is a place
- 26:03Speaker 4: where I bring different comedians every show and we sit
- 26:06Speaker 4: around and talk about hot topics. So I like to
- 26:09Speaker 4: call it the view with comedians and we you know,
- 26:13Speaker 4: we just sit.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Around and we just sit and elaborate and we flip it.
- 26:17Speaker 4: We don't.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I don't do.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Got your comedians let them talk about I think it
- 26:23Speaker 4: can be funny without it, you know what I mean.
- 26:25Speaker 4: We might hit a subject on what's the hot topic
- 26:28Speaker 4: on an individual, but we don't go after the individual.
- 26:31Speaker 4: We go about the subject that the individual find themselves in,
- 26:36Speaker 4: and then we do our hot populars. What would you
- 26:38Speaker 4: do if you was in that situation? So I just
- 26:42Speaker 4: wanted to put a platform for young comedian. That's what
- 26:45Speaker 4: we do, comedians you never heard of, and let the
- 26:47Speaker 4: world hear them. And you know, like I do, it's
- 26:51Speaker 4: very important to do what we're doing now. And I
- 26:52Speaker 4: tell him this, I learned it from you and Steve
- 26:55Speaker 4: off of it.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Do you want.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Somebody to hear you and say, who was that comedian
- 27:00Speaker 4: the funny this morning?
- 27:02Speaker 3: When is he coming in my tam? Oh he did today?
- 27:05Speaker 3: Let me buy this ticket. That's how I made my money.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Make it so funny that they want to crash in
- 27:11Speaker 4: the morning till when they get off work they buy
- 27:14Speaker 4: them tickets. See, we didn't have all this, so I
- 27:16Speaker 4: had to get that little eight minutes, that little seven
- 27:19Speaker 4: minutes on that morning show with that funky DJ who
- 27:22Speaker 4: didn't a personality that didn't want to be on it,
- 27:25Speaker 4: like you wanted to take his job. Don't nobody want
- 27:27Speaker 4: to move the Little Rock Akasas and be on the
- 27:30Speaker 4: video show man? Calm down, I lived. I'm from Washington,
- 27:34Speaker 4: d C. I live in California. I have bigger aspirations
- 27:37Speaker 4: than be a be a morning personality and Little Rock Arkansas.
- 27:43Speaker 3: I'm just here for tonight.
- 27:45Speaker 4: You can have it the rest of the week. I'm
- 27:47Speaker 4: going to enhance your show. But they didn't see it
- 27:49Speaker 4: that way. They took us as a threat because they
- 27:51Speaker 4: knew if they if they heard us, we can be
- 27:54Speaker 4: funny between the songs. So that was the most important part.
- 27:58Speaker 4: And I try to translate that to them, say be
- 28:00Speaker 4: funny this way you can sell tickets and sales stickers
- 28:04Speaker 4: can translate to be on a bigger stage such as
- 28:07Speaker 4: TV shows and movies and stuff.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Like that earthquake your Fox. Now the aspirations of being
- 28:15Speaker 1: a TV star talk to us.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's a blessing. You know, you've been
- 28:23Speaker 3: in this game.
- 28:24Speaker 4: It's deals are deals, But who makes the deals?
- 28:27Speaker 3: Really makes, to.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Be quite honest with you, with the possibility of you
- 28:32Speaker 4: actually be.
- 28:33Speaker 3: It on the air.
- 28:34Speaker 4: And the president of the network, Michael Thorne, shout out
- 28:40Speaker 4: to him when he came to me and the team
- 28:43Speaker 4: three Honts and the rest of it, said he wanted
- 28:45Speaker 4: me on his on his air, and he wanted that
- 28:48Speaker 4: Earthquakes show. And he said he's moving the network more
- 28:54Speaker 4: over to you know, sitcoms, because they h he wanted
- 28:58Speaker 4: more sitcoms on it, and he wanted it back to
- 29:00Speaker 4: the point when Living Color was on the air and
- 29:04Speaker 4: Martin and Live in Single and he wanted yes, those
- 29:09Speaker 4: type of things, and I was I was floored.
- 29:13Speaker 3: And I got up with my man Bill Burr.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Who wanted the funniest dudes walking, and we wanted to
- 29:19Speaker 4: just put a show together that merged both of our
- 29:22Speaker 4: comedy mentalities and philosophy into a fictitious world.
- 29:28Speaker 3: And it's coming together.
- 29:30Speaker 4: We're trying to find right now the show runner for
- 29:33Speaker 4: my show. We have the script that I mean, the
- 29:37Speaker 4: outline of the show that I want to do, and
- 29:39Speaker 4: I'm just trying to find somebody to write it that
- 29:42Speaker 4: understand it.
- 29:42Speaker 3: And you understand more than anything.
- 29:44Speaker 4: My first thing is I need to find a writer
- 29:48Speaker 4: to understand that I will not audition for my own show,
- 29:52Speaker 4: so you will not give me a script that I
- 29:53Speaker 4: have to sit down here and study right myself.
- 29:59Speaker 3: So you love those words more than you love your job.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Maybe you not don't want to stay ahead work over here,
- 30:04Speaker 3: you know what I mean? So you know. So it's
- 30:07Speaker 3: it's coming together and I'm blessed to.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Have it, you know, And it's very you know this,
- 30:12Speaker 4: it's very few of us that get this opportunity at
- 30:16Speaker 4: this point in our life by the president of a
- 30:18Speaker 4: network at the studio.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Wow, you know, some earthquake.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I'm just gonna let everybody know when they shoot the
- 30:26Speaker 1: pilot Keele Ra Sean McDonnell know, I.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Promise if EVA don't do it, she's gonna get fired.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I'm just telling you know. If I if you're for
- 30:35Speaker 2: a pilot's been shot.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Get shot. We're getting on the head, but get shot.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Shan mcdonal, not in the standing on sidelines pointing at you,
- 30:47Speaker 1: because you're special. Man, You're special, and I appreciate you
- 30:51Speaker 1: giving me time, but I want to get just a
- 30:53Speaker 1: close out on the personal side, because you can't make
- 30:56Speaker 1: these journeys to the neck club because you've heard me
- 30:58Speaker 1: mention my wife's over time, how important of a role
- 31:01Speaker 1: she plays in our life. This shout out what makes
- 31:04Speaker 1: you tick the day and what makes you flow to day,
- 31:07Speaker 1: what keeps you even killed to day?
- 31:09Speaker 2: Real quick, as we close out the show.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Well, I used to say this joke.
- 31:13Speaker 4: People used to come up to me all the time,
- 31:14Speaker 4: and I told you all my jokes come from truth.
- 31:17Speaker 4: And then I make it out a laughter. People like, quick,
- 31:20Speaker 4: why haven't you quote made it yet? I say, I'm
- 31:23Speaker 4: one good black woman for making it once.
- 31:28Speaker 3: God is never gonna allow me in order.
- 31:30Speaker 4: I think, in my humble opinion, any man, especially a
- 31:34Speaker 4: black man, could fit, can fulfill or reach his true
- 31:38Speaker 4: potential without his woman on his side. And August twenty first,
- 31:44Speaker 4: I will be getting married for the second time.
- 31:48Speaker 3: To this beautiful woman six years ago.
- 31:50Speaker 4: That came in my life that has changed everything and
- 31:53Speaker 4: since she has been here out in my career, my focus.
- 31:58Speaker 3: She's a true woman that leaves in me.
- 32:00Speaker 4: She's just not a person that actually here for the
- 32:04Speaker 4: benefit of being who I am. It's a person that
- 32:08Speaker 4: actually believe me. It's a totally different that as an
- 32:13Speaker 4: entertainer and just refrankly brother. As a man, when you
- 32:16Speaker 4: properly love by a woman, that gives you that motivation
- 32:20Speaker 4: to want to do more and happy your cheerity r
- 32:25Speaker 4: biggest chility that wants to see you fulfill your potential,
- 32:29Speaker 4: not just just maintain a status and take advantage of
- 32:35Speaker 4: the privilege and the benefits that comes along with the occupation.
- 32:39Speaker 3: And it has changed my life, and so.
- 32:43Speaker 4: God her and that together has put me in this
- 32:47Speaker 4: position that I'm gonna have my own TV show on
- 32:49Speaker 4: another natural special and selling out shows all out. And
- 32:54Speaker 4: I know the different because I have been out here.
- 32:57Speaker 4: I'm playing around for years independit contractors.
- 33:03Speaker 3: And the things that.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Look good with the thing good look good with the occupation,
- 33:08Speaker 4: but did not have the substance of it.
- 33:09Speaker 3: And now they have the substance of it. I see why.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Other men, comedians, and just to be quite honest with it,
- 33:17Speaker 4: people was beating me in this game called life because
- 33:21Speaker 4: I didn't have that substance of a woman being properly
- 33:25Speaker 4: loved by a woman's especially a black woman.
- 33:28Speaker 1: It's a beautiful thing. It's a beautiful thing. It's called earthquake.
- 33:32Speaker 1: He's the one and only earthquake. He's the Real earthquake
- 33:35Speaker 1: dot com, the Real earthquake dot com if you want
- 33:38Speaker 1: to know more about him, his tours, his radio show,
- 33:42Speaker 1: which is on Serious XM. Quake's House, that's Kevin Hart's
- 33:45Speaker 1: laugh out Loud channel on Serious XM, his special and
- 33:49Speaker 1: I think he uh, he's.
- 33:52Speaker 2: You know, as I close.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Now, he's mentioned my name several times about the significance
- 33:59Speaker 1: I play in his life. But when I can wake
- 34:03Speaker 1: up and I can think, and then I I word
- 34:07Speaker 1: earthquake name pops up and I just smile and I
- 34:10Speaker 1: laugh because I've seen him, y'all. I've seen different steps
- 34:13Speaker 1: in his life from nineteen ninety five. And every time
- 34:17Speaker 1: I wake up and think about it, I just walking
- 34:19Speaker 1: down the street or driving my car, I just smile.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Earthquake, you are so special, brother, and I love you.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Now.
- 34:26Speaker 2: That's a sincere I love you, brother. And but if
- 34:29Speaker 2: you don't hand me there for your pilot, it will
- 34:33Speaker 2: be some hate. It will be some hate, but it'll
- 34:36Speaker 2: be still tied with love. Earthquake, thanks for coming on myself.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Brother.
- 34:42Speaker 4: I don't know what yes, but she's gonna get a
- 34:44Speaker 4: turkey for me. I don't know where you you will
- 34:48Speaker 4: know where that power.
- 34:49Speaker 3: That you don't get a turkey for me. Thank you, brother.
- 34:53Speaker 4: I appreciate your time, man, and thank you for everything
- 34:56Speaker 4: you've done in my career. Man, I remember and just
- 34:58Speaker 4: the closing out, I remember you. It's like it was
- 35:00Speaker 4: no need for you to cuss on this show. Were
- 35:03Speaker 4: doing the thing a father. You was always a teacher
- 35:06Speaker 4: and I love you man, and God bless you, and
- 35:08Speaker 4: I will take to the day.
- 35:10Speaker 3: I don't money making conversation. That's what I tell them.
- 35:12Speaker 3: I don't do nothing else. I got to have money
- 35:15Speaker 3: making conversation and I love it. Rather continue success and
- 35:19Speaker 3: God bless you.
- 35:20Speaker 2: The one and only Earthquake. Y'all on the Money Making
