- 1:40Speaker 1: Nephew Tommy, I just wanna do it that way. How
- 1:45Speaker 1: you doing, really good, man, really good? I was excited, man.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You know, they sent me your bio and they send
- 1:50Speaker 1: a list of questions and everything. But you know, I
- 1:52Speaker 1: zee a few times. We're gonna talk about Ready for love,
- 1:55Speaker 1: but I see it in right on them grits, brother,
- 1:57Speaker 1: the grits and those grits, you know what preside. I
- 2:02Speaker 1: had no idea. I I um hardening up with this
- 2:06Speaker 1: guy in Houston, who's who, who's been cooking for years,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and I wanted am I needed an extra turkey for
- 2:13Speaker 1: Thanksgiving and and never met this guy before in my life.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I bought a turkey from it, and when I was leaving,
- 2:18Speaker 1: he said, hey, do you like grits. I was like, yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I love gritz You said, well take this season and
- 2:23Speaker 1: put it in your grits next time your wife cuts
- 2:25Speaker 1: grits for you. I said all right, and I never
- 2:27Speaker 1: got around to it. The guy calls me back and says, hey,
- 2:29Speaker 1: did you did you try the grid? Seas If like, nah,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm done it yet, and and then I don't know.
- 2:34Speaker 1: A week later, I told my wife, hey, let's try
- 2:35Speaker 1: these grids. Bruce Sean. When I tried those grids, and
- 2:40Speaker 1: oh my god, you got something. And you know, he
- 2:43Speaker 1: and I went back and forth collaborating on changing the
- 2:46Speaker 1: seasoning and changing this and that, and we finally got
- 2:49Speaker 1: what we want. So um, that heart and soul is
- 2:52Speaker 1: the original, and that that that uh that that that
- 2:55Speaker 1: spicy one is the next one behind, and then I
- 2:57Speaker 1: gotta go. You know, you know is always a grits debate,
- 3:01Speaker 1: right right right? You want sugar in your grips debate? No,
- 3:07Speaker 1: So so I'm coming up with Sweden sassy so we
- 3:10Speaker 1: can have Okay, okay, so we got the whole world
- 3:14Speaker 1: of grits coming man. So next month, be on the lookout.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna be calling you on. But I'm gonna want
- 3:19Speaker 1: to be on here again so I can talk about
- 3:21Speaker 1: these grits. Well, first of all, you know, I'm not
- 3:22Speaker 1: gonna turn your weight well talking about grits because both
- 3:25Speaker 1: of us from Houston, Texas, so we Southern boys. And
- 3:28Speaker 1: so because grit's, man, you know, you get the real
- 3:31Speaker 1: black people, the black people in the you know that
- 3:33Speaker 1: grit stuff, that grit talk because you know, we forgot
- 3:35Speaker 1: the bacon and grease, the bacon grease. They go with
- 3:38Speaker 1: grits to man, because grits has so much love to remember, Steve,
- 3:41Speaker 1: Steve Arby's the love when I cook grits because you
- 3:43Speaker 1: know I can cook grit So when I saw grits
- 3:47Speaker 1: as part of your you know, your entupitturity, newership. You
- 3:49Speaker 1: know you can. You get a lot of what you do,
- 3:51Speaker 1: T shirts, you do, prank phone calls, you do a
- 3:53Speaker 1: lot of great things. But but to go into this
- 3:56Speaker 1: venture called Just Good Grits, that's grit with a Z
- 3:59Speaker 1: dot com. You can go check it out right now,
- 4:01Speaker 1: Just Good Grits Z instead of the S dot com.
- 4:05Speaker 1: You can see right now. It has hard and soul
- 4:07Speaker 1: and spicy love. Because when I saw your image on
- 4:10Speaker 1: the box, I just I just started smiling, Thomas, I
- 4:13Speaker 1: really did. Man, Thank you, man, thank you. And you
- 4:16Speaker 1: know what you got me thinking. When my mama used
- 4:19Speaker 1: to cook grits. She would cook the grits and then
- 4:21Speaker 1: you would mix the eggs in there with you. Hey, Thomas,
- 4:25Speaker 1: right if you you know, you know it's so many
- 4:29Speaker 1: once you start doing. That's why I told you I'm
- 4:31Speaker 1: dropping my TV show called Rashaan's Kitchen in Atlanta two
- 4:34Speaker 1: million homes gonna be a Comcast Tune five A T
- 4:38Speaker 1: and t U Verse channel six May six. That's when
- 4:41Speaker 1: it drops. I want to be able to, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 1: cook your grits on there because I do breakfast. You know,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I love soft eggs. I do eggs over each I
- 4:50Speaker 1: do the bacon, I do toades, I do biscuits. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: had my boat ridding this. God done this calm bread.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So I really want to just like, so you have
- 4:57Speaker 1: to be on there. As soon as I get my
- 4:59Speaker 1: order for you, am gonna put it online ticks of
- 5:01Speaker 1: pictures because people just love the fact that I cook
- 5:04Speaker 1: and always I get a lot of engagement. So I'm
- 5:07Speaker 1: just excited. But I just love the fact that I
- 5:09Speaker 1: saw that picture you and on the box, and I'm
- 5:12Speaker 1: gona tell you some time. I'm not even laughing in
- 5:14Speaker 1: a like a bad way. It's just like it's a
- 5:17Speaker 1: prideful thing because that's a that's that's possible. Man. You
- 5:21Speaker 1: can be in Krogers, you can be in public, you
- 5:24Speaker 1: can be at all these ordinationswid just on the dream
- 5:28Speaker 1: tell us about that. You know what, man, you know
- 5:31Speaker 1: I learned this from you. I learned this from Steve Harvey.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It's about connections. It's about you know, capitalizing on it
- 5:37Speaker 1: when you know that they're bad, when you know the
- 5:39Speaker 1: opportunity is there. Um, you know, I live in Houston, Texas,
- 5:43Speaker 1: so you know I have put my ear to the
- 5:45Speaker 1: street on what does it take to get a product
- 5:50Speaker 1: in an in an h g B in a Kroger,
- 5:52Speaker 1: you know, and we don't see many black products on
- 5:54Speaker 1: the shelf. So I did the groundwork and found out
- 5:57Speaker 1: what it takes me like is that it you know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: And I'm saying they say, you know, if you get
- 6:02Speaker 1: about fifty sixty dollars in sales online, you are now
- 6:07Speaker 1: eligible and available to possibly be in h g B.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So my thing is what I got a million plus
- 6:14Speaker 1: people following me on on every social media outlet you
- 6:18Speaker 1: can think of. Surely I can sell sending them some grets,
- 6:22Speaker 1: you know. So I'm just doing the map, saying it.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It all makes sense and um, and I'm connected with
- 6:29Speaker 1: people who are in the heads up of of h
- 6:32Speaker 1: g B, so it's right there. If I don't do it,
- 6:35Speaker 1: it makes no sense, man, Well it then they'll make
- 6:37Speaker 1: any sense. But more importantly, it makes sense that you
- 6:40Speaker 1: will talking about relationships like h g B is like
- 6:43Speaker 1: that's a power broker, you know, the day top quality,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the line we talked about. Everybody shops there in h
- 6:49Speaker 1: B and then you get to these Krogers. But I'm
- 6:53Speaker 1: just tell you, man, I was just so happy and
- 6:54Speaker 1: it just maybe smile just seeing your face on a
- 6:58Speaker 1: box of grich Man. And I've been and I and
- 7:00Speaker 1: I you know, because there's a black person man, we
- 7:02Speaker 1: grow up and and and and you know either the
- 7:05Speaker 1: ant your mama's and uncle bins and all that stuff.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And I know who you are. You're a graduate of
- 7:11Speaker 1: Texas n Them. You know what I'm saying you you
- 7:13Speaker 1: you know you're you're a businessman. So you're kind of
- 7:16Speaker 1: like breaking the model of what has been portrayed of
- 7:19Speaker 1: black people. And you've been breaking the marrow a long time,
- 7:22Speaker 1: all the way back to Texas. And then talk about that. Now,
- 7:25Speaker 1: have to slow you down because sometimes we just be
- 7:27Speaker 1: doing stuff time and we don't realize what we're doing.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But but it's it was a much more prideful thing,
- 7:33Speaker 1: more than the fact that I knew you. But that
- 7:35Speaker 1: was more pride when I saw that that when I
- 7:37Speaker 1: went to the website Just Good Grits and I saw
- 7:39Speaker 1: that dot com, I went, wow, it's my board man.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Look at him on that box, man, and I knew
- 7:44Speaker 1: who you were, that I knew what you represented as
- 7:46Speaker 1: a man. But then just talk about that, you know what,
- 7:50Speaker 1: it's been a journey man. Um. I mean, you you
- 7:53Speaker 1: were there at the beginning. You put me on stage,
- 7:55Speaker 1: first time I ever got on stage and doing stand up,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and uh, it's just been a journey. So uh, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: at some point in my life I feel like, you know,
- 8:03Speaker 1: there's a there's a book coming, you know, a funny
- 8:05Speaker 1: thing happened on the way to Hollywood, you know, and
- 8:08Speaker 1: and it's just the journey of every stop that I've made.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I had no idea I was gonna be doing stand up.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I had no idea I was going to be doing radio.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I mean, I was a theater major, thinking that, you know,
- 8:19Speaker 1: like all theater major. Okay, I'm going I'm on my
- 8:21Speaker 1: way to Broadway. Now, let me go to New York
- 8:23Speaker 1: and that's where I will be getting my career. That's
- 8:25Speaker 1: what you think. But you have no idea what your
- 8:27Speaker 1: journey is gonna be, and you have to be really
- 8:29Speaker 1: open about where your steps are going. And and sometimes
- 8:34Speaker 1: the journey you sometimes you need every stop along that
- 8:37Speaker 1: journey to get where you are, to be able to
- 8:39Speaker 1: look back and say, you know what, I respect where
- 8:41Speaker 1: I've been. I respect the whole journey God has sent
- 8:44Speaker 1: me through. And and now here I am I'm a
- 8:46Speaker 1: lot more mature, a lot a lot less crazy than
- 8:49Speaker 1: I used to, you know, so, so uh, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: you you just you grow up and and you learn
- 8:56Speaker 1: and you you you become a little bit more um
- 9:00Speaker 1: clear about what you need to be in the in
- 9:02Speaker 1: the journey that you're on and how to keep going
- 9:05Speaker 1: forward and and not uh not thinking that you can't
- 9:08Speaker 1: do something. So when I saw something like the grids,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I'm like, you know what I can do this. Let me,
- 9:12Speaker 1: let me, let me put my resources together, because I
- 9:14Speaker 1: have too many resources not not to make it. You know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: they say it's six degrees of separation. I think I'm
- 9:20Speaker 1: I think I'm two or three phone calls from anybody,
- 9:23Speaker 1: So it can be done. So I just I just
- 9:26Speaker 1: don't tell myself that it can't happen. I'm always pressing
- 9:29Speaker 1: forward on we can do this if we want to
- 9:31Speaker 1: do so. You know, the beauty of you, man is
- 9:33Speaker 1: that you know, it's that you know when you're under
- 9:35Speaker 1: umbrella of Steve Harvey's brand, you know, the Steve Rubert
- 9:38Speaker 1: Morning Show, but the prank phone calls has enabled you
- 9:42Speaker 1: to separate yourself as a true individual, true gifted talent,
- 9:47Speaker 1: which has led to other things, other acting things. We're
- 9:49Speaker 1: gonna get to ready for love. But I want to
- 9:51Speaker 1: just dissect that whole prank phone call brand that you built.
- 9:55Speaker 1: You know, there's there's popular on YouTube, you know, generates income.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Let me say this though, Here's what Here's what the
- 10:02Speaker 1: listeners don't know is when I first started doing these
- 10:06Speaker 1: prank phone called the One and Only, Rushan McDonald said,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I won't fire every week. I like, what, I won't
- 10:15Speaker 1: five every week? And you know what, I used to
- 10:18Speaker 1: think that was just bananas. I used to say, he
- 10:20Speaker 1: has lost his mind if you think I can do
- 10:22Speaker 1: this that many times a week. But what that did
- 10:26Speaker 1: for me, you got me to over three hundred prank
- 10:30Speaker 1: calls laying in the cut. I now have that many.
- 10:34Speaker 1: And and what it is, Rushan, is you know it's
- 10:37Speaker 1: a little difficult now for me to to do the
- 10:39Speaker 1: prank sometimes because everybody is called on and they know Nephew,
- 10:43Speaker 1: Timmy's boys. But back then, when I was first starting,
- 10:46Speaker 1: they didn't know that. So I was able to build
- 10:49Speaker 1: this whole archive at that time. And now I look
- 10:54Speaker 1: back and say, oh my god, Rushan McDonald, if he
- 10:56Speaker 1: wouldn't have made me going there go into the studio
- 10:59Speaker 1: cut these uh, these prank calls. I would not have
- 11:03Speaker 1: had this type of library at all. And I say,
- 11:08Speaker 1: thank you, brother, thank you for cracking that whip on me,
- 11:11Speaker 1: putting it on me. So going there and do do
- 11:14Speaker 1: what you wanted me to do. I thought I thought
- 11:15Speaker 1: you had lost your mind. But now I look back
- 11:17Speaker 1: and say, oh my god. And Rushan Now you know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: like we were talking about resources before, you know, I
- 11:23Speaker 1: went to um Yolanda Adams asked her, you know, how
- 11:27Speaker 1: do I get my stuff? Like like you got your
- 11:29Speaker 1: your your CDs in Walmart? How do I do that?
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yolanda Adams made one phone call and the next thing
- 11:34Speaker 1: I know, I was in Walmart and my first check
- 11:39Speaker 1: and and one month out of Walmart was about sixty
- 11:42Speaker 1: some thousand dollars and I was blown away. And and
- 11:45Speaker 1: here I am sitting on all these pranks. Go you
- 11:48Speaker 1: made me going there and do these pranks. And I
- 11:52Speaker 1: look back to Dave Rushan man, and you know, every
- 11:56Speaker 1: month YouTube sends me a check for my prank phone call.
- 11:59Speaker 1: So brother, thank you so much, thank you, thank you,
- 12:02Speaker 1: thank you. I'm grateful, well, thank you for the compliment.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But you know, it all comes back to talent. I
- 12:07Speaker 1: always tell people you know a lot of people. You know,
- 12:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna pusher, you know that, but I push people
- 12:12Speaker 1: who are feel But one thing, you work hard, Never
- 12:15Speaker 1: take that away from you. And then the fact that
- 12:17Speaker 1: you're you're gifted, and and and all the way back
- 12:21Speaker 1: to your sister sister days. You know, I was casting
- 12:23Speaker 1: your sister sisters. You know what I'm saying. As the share,
- 12:26Speaker 1: that's the share as the police officer, you know, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: but that's some people Understandment's about when you talk about
- 12:31Speaker 1: six degree relationships and all that holding onto you know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: doing some things that you're uncomfortable with When I say that,
- 12:37Speaker 1: sometimes you do things you're not paid for. That's the
- 12:39Speaker 1: uncomfortable part. When does this When does this endgame go to?
- 12:42Speaker 1: But the problem is that when people look at your brand,
- 12:45Speaker 1: they don't understand that it's a lot of work. You know,
- 12:48Speaker 1: there's a lot of fun. You're getting up every day.
- 12:50Speaker 1: You have to be topical, you have to be ready.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You're talking, we're working one of the biggest stars in
- 12:55Speaker 1: the world. You never know what comes out of his
- 12:57Speaker 1: head with directing. He gonna go on sometime and you
- 12:59Speaker 1: gotta be ready for that. And so that whole process
- 13:02Speaker 1: that led you to be able to go into different
- 13:03Speaker 1: acting scenarios. But that that prank phone call. Man, I
- 13:06Speaker 1: remember when I asked you that I knew we would
- 13:08Speaker 1: own to something. And you've done some CLAXI brother, you've
- 13:11Speaker 1: done a celebrity and frank phone calls you. But the
- 13:13Speaker 1: beauty of it is that man, you just you were
- 13:16Speaker 1: able to manipulate you remember when they remember what one
- 13:19Speaker 1: time they was when they when you couldn't do prank
- 13:22Speaker 1: phone call. You had to get permission, ridden permission, and
- 13:24Speaker 1: they tried to shut you down. You figure that out.
- 13:27Speaker 1: You're not worry about I got this, I got this,
- 13:29Speaker 1: and it was just you know, but you you didn't
- 13:31Speaker 1: allow this. You know you you constantly move the needle
- 13:34Speaker 1: or maintain your brand. And so I take the cadus
- 13:37Speaker 1: of the thank you and all that, but also get
- 13:40Speaker 1: back the hard work. When they were when legally it
- 13:43Speaker 1: was in a position to shut down your prank phone call.
- 13:45Speaker 1: You push through that and you move hard, move forward,
- 13:48Speaker 1: and then that leads you to your comedy days. And
- 13:50Speaker 1: so I'm just letting everybody know that nephew Tommy is
- 13:53Speaker 1: a brand y'all. Thomas Miles the individual. But nephew Tommy
- 13:56Speaker 1: is a brand. Talk about that nephew Tommy brands. Uh wow,
- 14:02Speaker 1: you know what and and and and you already know
- 14:04Speaker 1: that they're really both two different people shot and you
- 14:06Speaker 1: know that two different people, but that brand. I had
- 14:11Speaker 1: no idea that it was gonna soar to this um
- 14:15Speaker 1: to put me on on the platform that I'm on. Um,
- 14:19Speaker 1: you guys gave me an opportunity on the radio and
- 14:22Speaker 1: we you know, you took a shot at me and
- 14:24Speaker 1: um and and it worked. The the character itself that
- 14:28Speaker 1: that whole personna, it worked, and it just started building.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And the next thing, you know, you know, the whole
- 14:34Speaker 1: name Thomas Miles had just completely gotten washed away. And
- 14:36Speaker 1: it was like, Hey, I am this guy, nephew Tommy
- 14:39Speaker 1: and and and you know you just start building on it.
- 14:42Speaker 1: What can I do with it? I don't want to
- 14:44Speaker 1: just sit on it and not not capitalized on on
- 14:47Speaker 1: this opportunity I'm working for, you know, um so so
- 14:51Speaker 1: this is one of the biggest guys in the in
- 14:52Speaker 1: the business. So I have to figure out how to
- 14:56Speaker 1: make this work even though I'm underneath his umbrella. How
- 14:59Speaker 1: do I steal stey about and shine a little bit
- 15:01Speaker 1: and and make something my own. And I think this, um,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you know the pranks underneath a few time me going
- 15:07Speaker 1: out and doing stand up. Uh, you and I did it.
- 15:11Speaker 1: We did a tour together where you know, I was
- 15:13Speaker 1: able to really showcase the characters that that all trapped
- 15:17Speaker 1: inside my head and and and being able to display that.
- 15:20Speaker 1: But I think it all goes back to we want
- 15:24Speaker 1: to see this guy, nephew Tommy that we here on
- 15:27Speaker 1: the radio. We want to see what he has from
- 15:29Speaker 1: a stand up perspective. So when they came to see me,
- 15:32Speaker 1: they had no idea what they were gonna get, and
- 15:35Speaker 1: and to you know, to to set up a show
- 15:37Speaker 1: the way I did, coming out first giving them five
- 15:42Speaker 1: minutes off the top, and then in between each comedian
- 15:45Speaker 1: to give them different characters of of of me. Um,
- 15:49Speaker 1: I think it was different. I think it was something
- 15:51Speaker 1: that was very unexpected and that that even strengthened that
- 15:56Speaker 1: nephew Timmy brands. So, um, you know, as we now
- 15:59Speaker 1: move forward, just like, Okay, what else can I do? Right?
- 16:02Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to stop, you know, I
- 16:04Speaker 1: want to I want to keep reaching for everything I
- 16:06Speaker 1: can reach for. So I'm reaching for grits. Now, let's

- 17:56Speaker 1: see you. They're fearless. Guide this fascinating. Find the forest
- 18:01Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. And Discovered the Forest dot
- 18:04Speaker 1: orgon brought to you by the United States Forest Service
- 18:06Speaker 1: and the Council. Well, I say that for your time
- 18:09Speaker 1: in the Commony Club in Las Vegas, Okay, Atlantic City, Okay,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you know, you know I think that
- 18:14Speaker 1: I don't I don't think small. I think big when
- 18:16Speaker 1: I see the opportunity. Because you got the marketing tool,
- 18:19Speaker 1: you got the social media, and so these things are
- 18:22Speaker 1: really special. And when you start building out the relationship.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You have to realize that, you know, Tamarin Hall with
- 18:27Speaker 1: you going on there with your grits and all that
- 18:29Speaker 1: the good stuff. But more importantly, the part of the
- 18:31Speaker 1: side of that I always loved a boy Thomas is
- 18:33Speaker 1: that he gave. He always give back. He always gave back.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And when you were doing the military tour, which you know,
- 18:39Speaker 1: which was a great run for you, when you was
- 18:41Speaker 1: going over to entertaining the troops and that that was
- 18:44Speaker 1: a gear back that caught you. You know, you didn't
- 18:47Speaker 1: see a comment, but boy, you dove in. It was
- 18:49Speaker 1: something that you was proud to be a part of.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Talk about that, Uh you know what, Shanman, I went
- 18:55Speaker 1: over there, uh with with not knowing what to expect. Uh.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Two of those USO tours actually, um my my first
- 19:04Speaker 1: one was I was with Robert Ory. I was with
- 19:07Speaker 1: Jordan's Sparks, who one American idol, young lady named Minka
- 19:10Speaker 1: Kelly and actress. So they had quite a few other
- 19:13Speaker 1: talents there and and but I was the guy that
- 19:16Speaker 1: had to be that person that hopes that you know,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I call it the black Bob hope, yes, yes, yes,
- 19:23Speaker 1: go over and perform for the troops and I was
- 19:26Speaker 1: just blown away by what I saw, just just you know,
- 19:29Speaker 1: the front line, the people that represent the country. I
- 19:32Speaker 1: couldn't believe how they put their lives on the line.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And um, we were we were visiting hospitals and we
- 19:39Speaker 1: were in one guy's particular room and he had just
- 19:41Speaker 1: come out of surgery and um, he said, um, when
- 19:44Speaker 1: he woke up, we were we were all standing around
- 19:47Speaker 1: his bed. I mean, he has just woken up from
- 19:50Speaker 1: surgery and his his his both his legs have been
- 19:53Speaker 1: blown completely on. He's just coming out and he says,
- 19:57Speaker 1: you know, I would love to take pictures with you guys,
- 20:00Speaker 1: but I gotta go. I gotta get back to my
- 20:02Speaker 1: men that they're waiting for me. And he doesn't even
- 20:06Speaker 1: realize what has happened to him. And man, we're standing
- 20:08Speaker 1: there around and with tears running down our face. And
- 20:11Speaker 1: and when we left, you know, we're heading back to
- 20:14Speaker 1: the States. That's one of the chief officers. You know
- 20:17Speaker 1: what happens to these people when they get back home.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And he said, well, you know, you know, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 1: America takes care, We take care of our soldiers. I say, well,
- 20:25Speaker 1: how long does that take? He said, well, sometimes it
- 20:27Speaker 1: takes a minute because you know, you gotta go through
- 20:29Speaker 1: all of the procedures and and so what And I
- 20:31Speaker 1: was like wow, So I came back and created miles
- 20:35Speaker 1: of giving, uh, and miles of giving is where we
- 20:38Speaker 1: give to you right now, regardless of your circumstances, we
- 20:43Speaker 1: give to you right then and there. So so um
- 20:46Speaker 1: if if if you know, fifteen hundred dollars, two thousand dollars,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you're shine, You'll be surprised what that means. You know,
- 20:53Speaker 1: right now situation and for somebody that's waiting on the government,
- 20:57Speaker 1: that might be three or four months, six months and
- 21:00Speaker 1: before they start getting taken care of. So miles of
- 21:03Speaker 1: giving we are about right now. And we've been giving
- 21:07Speaker 1: back to one of the veterans since um, I don't know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: two thousand and twelve, I believe two thousand trail. Yeah,
- 21:12Speaker 1: that's why, like I said, you know, you know that's
- 21:15Speaker 1: a good created out of the brand of Nephew Tommy.
- 21:18Speaker 1: You know that Nephew Tommy, that brother that machine at business.
- 21:21Speaker 1: You know, I envisioned a warehouse just Nephew Tommy logo
- 21:24Speaker 1: on it, like you know, a hundred people working in
- 21:27Speaker 1: the making T shirts or mixing grid. You know, I think,
- 21:30Speaker 1: you know, doing charity engagements and all that stuff, because
- 21:33Speaker 1: that's the vision, man, because you you know, we all
- 21:35Speaker 1: sit back, Thomas, because we're both from Houston. And you know,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you know, your father was an amazing man who always,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know, always loved. The fact about your father was
- 21:44Speaker 1: that you actually live in your father's life. You know,
- 21:46Speaker 1: he didn't get a chance. You know, he became a
- 21:48Speaker 1: blue collar worker and he didn't get a chance to
- 21:51Speaker 1: pursue the entertainment career. Does that ever cross your mind, man,
- 21:55Speaker 1: that you know, you you was a track star, but
- 21:57Speaker 1: then you know you were so far away from what
- 21:59Speaker 1: he was, what his dream was. But now you're living
- 22:02Speaker 1: his dream. That really is an emotional moment, man, when
- 22:05Speaker 1: I think about it. You know what, Man, I had
- 22:07Speaker 1: no idea. You know, I was getting ready to um.
- 22:10Speaker 1: You know, I did all that. I did track all
- 22:12Speaker 1: through high school and uh and I also did drama
- 22:15Speaker 1: all through high school, and I chose the drama scholarship.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And I actually thought that I disappointed him, that I
- 22:22Speaker 1: disappointed him by not you didn't run and track, you
- 22:25Speaker 1: didn't And man, I'm getting ready to uh, getting ready
- 22:28Speaker 1: to pull out of the drive with him. My mother
- 22:30Speaker 1: bought me a brand new little Toyota pick up truck
- 22:33Speaker 1: and I'm getting ready to go off to college, and
- 22:35Speaker 1: the whole better. The truck is loaded, and and that's
- 22:39Speaker 1: when he's standing there saying, um, you know you you
- 22:42Speaker 1: you you got my dream. I was like, what what
- 22:44Speaker 1: do you? What are you talking about? Keeps crying and
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'm like, what do you what's going on? He said,
- 22:48Speaker 1: you got my dream? I said, I said, no, I'm not.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I'm not running track, Pops. You know I'm I'm I'm
- 22:55Speaker 1: gonna pursue the steer of thing. He said, yeah, you
- 22:58Speaker 1: got my dream. I said, what are you talking about?
- 23:02Speaker 1: And that's when he tells me that he was a
- 23:03Speaker 1: theater major at Texas Southern University and he had to
- 23:07Speaker 1: drop out of school because you had to help his
- 23:10Speaker 1: mother and his father helped raise his siblings because my
- 23:12Speaker 1: dad was the oldest. And he said, you got my dream,
- 23:15Speaker 1: so it's up to you to do something with what
- 23:17Speaker 1: you're gonna do with my dream? So, UM, I hope,
- 23:20Speaker 1: I'm I hope I'm making him proud brother. Looking at it, Thomas,
- 23:23Speaker 1: first of all, you made him proud. You know what
- 23:25Speaker 1: I'm saying, uh, I know what you did before he
- 23:27Speaker 1: passed away, and I know what you're doing that. That's
- 23:29Speaker 1: why I you know, when I before we got on
- 23:32Speaker 1: the cart, said Thomas, I want to slow this down,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I said, because I know him so well. Sometimes I
- 23:37Speaker 1: missed these moments in conversation because you just blow pass him.
- 23:39Speaker 1: You think that, hey, let's not talk about that. But
- 23:42Speaker 1: I knew that. You know, one of my great disapoem
- 23:45Speaker 1: was I didn't get to meet your dad. You know,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I told you that. I said, Man, I'm so mad, Bro,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I'm so mad because because you know, you know, because
- 23:52Speaker 1: the stories, you know, the chief of jacksonally got up there, man,
- 23:55Speaker 1: and to tell the stories. Man, I just didn't do it.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Everybody didn't do it. Happy about it home people legends.
- 24:06Speaker 1: That's just the beauty. So so that's why I really
- 24:08Speaker 1: love the fact that now they're ready for love. You know,
- 24:11Speaker 1: came back to Houston, Thomas, came back to Euston. Tom.
- 24:15Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, Man, your dad, your family, your
- 24:18Speaker 1: mob bought the house for her, all these things. Man,
- 24:22Speaker 1: to bring your your gifts because a lot of people doubt.
- 24:26Speaker 1: You know, I know when I quit IBM and show
- 24:27Speaker 1: people I want to do stand up comedy. Yeah, okay,
- 24:30Speaker 1: really next day to Murphy right right, right. So a
- 24:33Speaker 1: lot of people question that process because it's not a
- 24:35Speaker 1: nine to five jobs. They don't understand. But brother to
- 24:38Speaker 1: bring Ready for Love. Let's tell us about Let's tell
- 24:41Speaker 1: everybody what Ready for Love is, and then we will
- 24:43Speaker 1: talk about bringing it back to Houston. Let me tell
- 24:45Speaker 1: you this, Okay, but those that don't know, Ready to
- 24:47Speaker 1: Love is a is a dating show, and uh, it's
- 24:50Speaker 1: not your typical dating show. You know, your typical dating show.
- 24:53Speaker 1: People are in the twenties, life is just getting started.
- 24:57Speaker 1: This is different. These people in their thirties, forties, some
- 25:00Speaker 1: are in their fifties. People have been married, gotten divorced.
- 25:03Speaker 1: You even have people who are mostly career driven, having
- 25:07Speaker 1: taken time to find a relationship, and um, they come
- 25:11Speaker 1: on Ready to Love. So we start out with twenty singles,
- 25:14Speaker 1: ten men and ten women, and it's a it's a
- 25:18Speaker 1: process of elimination, the powerships back and forth from the
- 25:21Speaker 1: men to the women. Women eliminate men, men eliminate women.
- 25:25Speaker 1: And it's a ten week journey and at the end
- 25:28Speaker 1: of that ten weeks we wind up with six people,
- 25:31Speaker 1: six people, three couples who have hopefully found love. That
- 25:36Speaker 1: is that's the prize. There is no million dollars, no
- 25:40Speaker 1: trip around the world. Love is the prize. That's what
- 25:43Speaker 1: you win. I am your host, I'm your your cupid,
- 25:47Speaker 1: your love coach, whatever you wanna call it. And I
- 25:51Speaker 1: navigate and got these people on this journey of finding love.
- 25:54Speaker 1: And it is. It is very exciting because people are
- 25:57Speaker 1: tuning in every Friday night on the own network to um.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You know, people are trying to pair it up. You
- 26:03Speaker 1: know who do I think is gonna make it to
- 26:04Speaker 1: the end And I think it's gonna connect with who.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And it's just a great grown and sexy show. People
- 26:09Speaker 1: are loving it. We're not We're not on their fighting,
- 26:12Speaker 1: we're not throwing drinks anything, thank you. We are having
- 26:16Speaker 1: a good time and ready to love is now. Uh
- 26:19Speaker 1: here we are in Houston again, um and and and
- 26:22Speaker 1: it's beautiful that we are. We're showing off our city.
- 26:25Speaker 1: People get to see what Houston is all about, some
- 26:27Speaker 1: of the night areas, some of the great locations and
- 26:30Speaker 1: monumental places in Houston that people don't know about. So,
- 26:33Speaker 1: you know, I think sometimes when people think Texas. They
- 26:35Speaker 1: think we got a horse sitting outside of the house.
- 26:37Speaker 1: That's not the case. This is a four long le hut,
- 26:43Speaker 1: the turkey leg hut. So we definitely put the turkey
- 26:45Speaker 1: leg hut on it. But sure so in all those stuff,
- 26:47Speaker 1: in those type of places, you know, even the breakfast club,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you know, people those black owned business that we wanted
- 26:52Speaker 1: to make sure we we gave them the spotlight and
- 26:54Speaker 1: we did that. So I'm excited about this season. Man. Well,
- 26:57Speaker 1: you know the thing about it is that you got
- 26:59Speaker 1: the call from our board, Will Pack, you know who,
- 27:03Speaker 1: you know, we we we watched him grow to you
- 27:04Speaker 1: know what I'm saying that Steve and I was blessed
- 27:06Speaker 1: to have a relationship on the think like a man,
- 27:09Speaker 1: want would you appear? And thinking like a man movie?
- 27:11Speaker 1: And he also did think like a man too, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: that we all know. That was the lunch for Kevin
- 27:14Speaker 1: Hart's career. Now was those two movies. So him making
- 27:18Speaker 1: that phone call to you, he had already known about
- 27:20Speaker 1: you cash in previous movie. How was the what was
- 27:22Speaker 1: the thought process of him telling you want to host
- 27:25Speaker 1: because your stand up you know, so a lot of
- 27:27Speaker 1: things run through your mind. I'm not gonna be funny.
- 27:29Speaker 1: What can I do? And so, but you have to
- 27:32Speaker 1: be almost like a straight shooter in this situation and
- 27:35Speaker 1: also take these relationships seriously. Talk about that. How you
- 27:38Speaker 1: have to process that, you know what we're saying. First,
- 27:41Speaker 1: the first was the phone call. Because my phone call,
- 27:44Speaker 1: I thought I was being pranked. Only somebody got me,
- 27:48Speaker 1: you know. But but we'll hit me up and say hey, man,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I I got something for you. And you know, you
- 27:54Speaker 1: know how Hollywood is wet. People always say hey, I'm
- 27:56Speaker 1: gonna have something for you know, I have my people
- 27:58Speaker 1: call your people. Okay. No, Will called directly and said
- 28:02Speaker 1: I got something for you, and I was like okay,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and uh, I was overwhelmed. Man, you know, I get
- 28:07Speaker 1: teary eyed. I was all emotional. But I was grateful
- 28:11Speaker 1: that he called me. He said, man, you and your wife,
- 28:14Speaker 1: uh have been together for a long time. This is
- 28:17Speaker 1: for you. So I had to digest this as how
- 28:21Speaker 1: do I take this in? Do I take this in
- 28:24Speaker 1: as as a comedian, because like you're saying, I can't.
- 28:27Speaker 1: We're not on there cracking jokes when people are really
- 28:29Speaker 1: seriously trying to find a relationship. So I had to
- 28:32Speaker 1: find a balance between the two and really, Rishan, if
- 28:36Speaker 1: you if you think about it, I kind of blended
- 28:39Speaker 1: Thomas Miles and nephew tim Me together and that's you know,
- 28:42Speaker 1: you get a new a bit of a little bit
- 28:44Speaker 1: of a ballots, so both of the boys get the play.
- 28:46Speaker 1: You know. So you know, everybody knows Thomas Miles is
- 28:49Speaker 1: pretty serious, but if you time me, you know he
- 28:52Speaker 1: uh he likes to have fun, so a little blend.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And then of course, um just just just you know,
- 28:58Speaker 1: a guy that's been married h for a long time,
- 29:02Speaker 1: even my parents who were married up until the day
- 29:05Speaker 1: my father left here, I have nothing but that to
- 29:08Speaker 1: go off of, which is a great mold to look at.
- 29:11Speaker 1: So you know, I'm not I'm not a I'm not
- 29:14Speaker 1: a person that has a textbook for this. I don't
- 29:17Speaker 1: have a formula. All I can do is try to
- 29:20Speaker 1: share with these people that are trying to find love
- 29:22Speaker 1: what I've gone through and what I've seen my folks
- 29:24Speaker 1: go through, and give them honest, true advice and that's
- 29:27Speaker 1: what they like about it. Well, you know, I want
- 29:29Speaker 1: to close the show in this whole scenario ready to love,
- 29:33Speaker 1: because you know, I built this character a few times
- 29:36Speaker 1: with you, and you was able to grow at this
- 29:38Speaker 1: amazing uh persona that is today. But along the way,
- 29:42Speaker 1: it was a young lady that we that that loved you.
- 29:45Speaker 1: You know, had children with you, had a couple of
- 29:47Speaker 1: a couple of I mean a couple of TV shows.
- 29:50Speaker 1: You know. But you know you have to go through
- 29:52Speaker 1: a point where you know you you were a single
- 29:54Speaker 1: guy on the radio. You know what I'm saying. You
- 29:57Speaker 1: just stand by that ignorance. You know, I'm saying with
- 29:59Speaker 1: Richard that I'll be single baby, Okay, okay, And now
- 30:03Speaker 1: you know you're back and used. And she made an
- 30:05Speaker 1: appearance on the show. Just talk about her. Man, having
- 30:08Speaker 1: that that that soldier, that female soldier by your side
- 30:12Speaker 1: all these years. You know what you're saying, she's she's
- 30:15Speaker 1: she's that ride of dime. Man. Um. You know we
- 30:18Speaker 1: first started out, I didn't have no money and nothing.
- 30:22Speaker 1: You know, she was the one with with the good
- 30:24Speaker 1: job and and um you know engineer out of Texas
- 30:28Speaker 1: and m so she was holding us together man, and um,
- 30:31Speaker 1: you know, I just you know, I I I wanted
- 30:35Speaker 1: to make sure I stepped up for someone that had
- 30:38Speaker 1: so much confidence in me and my career, that had
- 30:41Speaker 1: hadn't even started yet, but just just just told me
- 30:44Speaker 1: that I could do it. Um. You know, it got
- 30:47Speaker 1: to the point one once I got on the radio
- 30:50Speaker 1: with you guys and things started to turn. You know,
- 30:53Speaker 1: that's when I wanted to put the shoe on the
- 30:55Speaker 1: other foot, where you know, my wife don't have to
- 30:57Speaker 1: work no more. And I love that. I love the
- 31:00Speaker 1: fact that she carried the load. I mean, think about
- 31:02Speaker 1: rush and even the cars I had and it was hers.
- 31:07Speaker 1: They wasn't mine. I had nothing, so so you know,
- 31:13Speaker 1: you know, she she she took care of me. We
- 31:15Speaker 1: wrote it out and to be able to to um
- 31:19Speaker 1: turn around and give her the world and then for
