Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest.
- 0:03Speaker 2: One new superhero movie that should go unnamed, did not
- 0:06Speaker 2: do so well at the past weekend's box office, currently
- 0:09Speaker 2: predicted to be a one hundred million dollar loss for
- 0:11Speaker 2: the studio behind it, despite being a household franchise name.
- 0:15Speaker 2: And Christopher Nolan, who did not direct it, while not
- 0:18Speaker 2: speaking directly about the film, does have a theory as
- 0:20Speaker 2: to why it went wrong.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, he.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Tells The New York Times, Hollywood is playing it way
- 0:25Speaker 3: too safe for its own good, and he says the
- 0:27Speaker 3: proof is in its history. He says, look backwards. The
- 0:30Speaker 3: pattern is that you have to take risks to succeed.
- 0:33Speaker 3: The audience is always looking for something new.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Yeah, And he actually referenced his breakout two thousand movie
- 0:39Speaker 4: Memento as an example, which tells the entire story backwards,
- 0:43Speaker 4: which is obviously not the normal way of doing things,
- 0:46Speaker 4: and he remembers pitching it to his wife, who was
- 0:49Speaker 4: also his producer, and she felt it was pretty.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Risky, and his counter argument was faith in his talent
- 0:55Speaker 2: to pull it all off, but also having something new
- 0:57Speaker 2: mitigates the risk and could distinguish him, which it certainly did.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Christopher Nola's next movie, Odyssey, arrives on the seventeenth.
- 1:05Speaker 1: That's direct from Hollywood.
