- 2:38Speaker 1: overcoming the arts, and how to live a balanced life.
- 2:41Speaker 1: My next guest is a self proclaimed original bad girl
- 2:44Speaker 1: of comedy. You have seen her in A Sorry Born,
- 2:47Speaker 1: A Star Is Born, where she shared the screen with
- 2:49Speaker 1: Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper Dolan. Night is My Name,
- 2:52Speaker 1: starring comedy legend Eddie Murphy. She's also part of the
- 2:56Speaker 1: cast of Coming to America Too, appearing in the sequel.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I got the hook up to my main master, Pete
- 3:02Speaker 1: plus a new Showtime comedy special which I just really
- 3:04Speaker 1: saw and laughed my butt off called Funny Women of
- 3:07Speaker 1: a Certain Age, And she was in two of my
- 3:09Speaker 1: movies that I executed to produce, Thinking Like a Man
- 3:12Speaker 1: and Thinking Like a Man Too. Please walking to money
- 3:14Speaker 1: making conversation for the very first time. Lou Nell, Hey,
- 3:19Speaker 1: how you doing that? Lou Nell? Hey, listen, I gotta
- 3:22Speaker 1: clarify something. Though I'm not self proclaimed the original backgirl
- 3:28Speaker 1: of comedy, that nickname was given to me. Never be
- 3:31Speaker 1: so cocky is to say that, but that name was
- 3:34Speaker 1: given to me. Well, let's talk about that. What does
- 3:36Speaker 1: that mean when you say the original bad girl of
- 3:39Speaker 1: comedy that was given to you? What were you doing
- 3:41Speaker 1: that made you get that name? Well? Rick Sullivan, who
- 3:45Speaker 1: was a comedy promoter back California. Yeah, Rick gave me
- 3:50Speaker 1: that name many many years ago. And I guess he
- 3:53Speaker 1: gave it to me because, you know, um, well, several
- 3:58Speaker 1: reasons I was a bad girl. I was that girl.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Um Physically, you know, I used to do a lot
- 4:04Speaker 1: of little bar sites like that, I was clipped quick,
- 4:08Speaker 1: the slap that they said something wrong back in the day.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I've calmed my sugar hand now. And but also because
- 4:18Speaker 1: I was really really, um, I guess bold in my
- 4:24Speaker 1: statements and my delivery back in the day. And there
- 4:28Speaker 1: wasn't a whole lot of women who were talking as
- 4:31Speaker 1: reckless as I was then that you know, there was
- 4:34Speaker 1: there was those people who had um very um direct
- 4:42Speaker 1: uh opinions of course, you know, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 1: that's what I remember about you. You know you you
- 4:52Speaker 1: hit that stage. You were short, but you are a
- 4:55Speaker 1: dynamite you d You're a powder kid out there and
- 4:58Speaker 1: you and and then and you know you command the
- 5:00Speaker 1: stage too. You always could. Plus you had that gravelly
- 5:03Speaker 1: voice which made people listen to you. And you and
- 5:06Speaker 1: you are you are a character and it really always
- 5:09Speaker 1: like say, the interesting thing about it is that, uh,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I mean, I've I've watched your career. You know, I
- 5:15Speaker 1: lived in l A from nineteen ninety have finally moved
- 5:18Speaker 1: to law to New York in two thousand and five,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and I started managing Steve Harving two thousand, so I
- 5:23Speaker 1: got I get to I got to see your career,
- 5:25Speaker 1: just like I got to see Kevin Hard's career. In
- 5:27Speaker 1: a lot of talented people who are who have risen
- 5:30Speaker 1: to two levels that they are just exploding and really
- 5:33Speaker 1: popular and recognizable not only just in social media but
- 5:36Speaker 1: on television. And so you know, when I when I
- 5:39Speaker 1: reached out to my staff to say I want to
- 5:41Speaker 1: interview through now you know it's it. You know it
- 5:45Speaker 1: wasn't about that. I've never talked to you or I
- 5:47Speaker 1: never never sat down, and you never shook your hand.
- 5:50Speaker 1: It's just if I've always been a fan of what
- 5:52Speaker 1: you are accomplishing and who what you represent and you
- 5:55Speaker 1: represent on stage to me honesty. Well, I thank you
- 6:01Speaker 1: for that, because I do try to keep it honest.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's just easier to be honest than it is to
- 6:07Speaker 1: be fake and a liar. It's just easier to be
- 6:10Speaker 1: that in my real life and in my stage persona.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I've never been a jokey, joke type of comic. I
- 6:19Speaker 1: don't tell jokes like Michael Collyer, I think is the
- 6:21Speaker 1: king of joke telling, but I don't. I don't tell jokes.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I tell stories like Osby and like George Cornelin and
- 6:29Speaker 1: stuff like that. And so that's why it's always been
- 6:32Speaker 1: hard for me to do something like Our Senio or
- 6:36Speaker 1: or or something where I have to be on network television,
- 6:39Speaker 1: my house six minutes, my setups might take sit right right. Yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 1: that's been difficult for me, but I was able to
- 6:47Speaker 1: do it because you know, when you're presented with a challenge,
- 6:50Speaker 1: you you need to step up and do it. I
- 6:53Speaker 1: have been able to do it, but it's it's difficult
- 6:55Speaker 1: for me. Well, the thing about it is that how
- 6:58Speaker 1: do you help? Isn't as an actors? Why would you describe?
- 7:01Speaker 1: You said, are you a character actress or your comedic
- 7:03Speaker 1: actress or what type of actress are you? I'm basically
- 7:08Speaker 1: a comedic actress. But I did a lot of theater
- 7:11Speaker 1: before I ever did film and television. So I have
- 7:14Speaker 1: done musicals and I have done dramatic acting, and I
- 7:19Speaker 1: there's only one movie I think I've done where I
- 7:22Speaker 1: really was straight dramatic and not comedic at all, and
- 7:26Speaker 1: that was Never Die Alone. Robbie Reid cast me and
- 7:29Speaker 1: Never Die Alone with DMX. You know, d MS is
- 7:33Speaker 1: no joke, and so that was all about drugs and
- 7:37Speaker 1: murder and stuff like that. So I never did any
- 7:40Speaker 1: comedy in that. But I caught myself a comedic actress
- 7:43Speaker 1: because it's just my mind is wired so that I
- 7:48Speaker 1: see the humor and a lot of things and that's
- 7:52Speaker 1: my comfort zone. But I'm sure that at some point
- 7:55Speaker 1: in time my career, I will be approached to do
- 8:00Speaker 1: dramatic acting again. And I always have the problem. I
- 8:05Speaker 1: think that if I go too deep that I may
- 8:07Speaker 1: not come back out. You know, if I had to
- 8:11Speaker 1: uh playing you know, if I had to do something
- 8:14Speaker 1: and like Selma, or if I had to do something
- 8:18Speaker 1: and uh like you know, Roots or something like that,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I think it would be difficult for me to go
- 8:23Speaker 1: home and turn that off at night, you know, right
- 8:27Speaker 1: right right, They can get too deep into the character
- 8:30Speaker 1: speaking to lout Nell. Uh, the original Bad Girl comedy. Um,
- 8:34Speaker 1: she started in such movies that you are familiar with
- 8:37Speaker 1: the stars born Ladies guy Guy Bradley Cooper in an
- 8:40Speaker 1: incredible movie Dolma Is My Name, Eddie Murphy. I love
- 8:43Speaker 1: that Movie're gonna talk about that in a minute. And
- 8:46Speaker 1: coming into the much anticipated Coming to America too. Uh,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you never left the stage as a stand up. You
- 8:51Speaker 1: have a comedy special that you can catch right now
- 8:53Speaker 1: with the call the Funny Funny Women of a Certain Age.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's and you have a couple of movies that are
- 9:00Speaker 1: come up as well. Let's talk. Let's go back and
- 9:01Speaker 1: talk about see to me, you just naturally funny to me.
- 9:05Speaker 1: So if somebody gives you a serious line, the way
- 9:08Speaker 1: you just twitch words where you look, it can come
- 9:10Speaker 1: out funny. And so so you're telling me that when
- 9:13Speaker 1: you were cast on in The Stars Born. You were
- 9:16Speaker 1: casting for comedy Relief. Now, if you remember, I only
- 9:22Speaker 1: really had about seven seconds of screen trying and the
- 9:25Speaker 1: Stars Born. And that was strictly because I have a
- 9:29Speaker 1: relationship with Bradley Cooper and he said, you know, I
- 9:33Speaker 1: want to throw you mail in him Bradley want Bradley
- 9:35Speaker 1: loved comedians. I mean there was Andrew d Clay was
- 9:39Speaker 1: in that, and myself and Eddie Griffin, right, So it
- 9:47Speaker 1: was just a little quick cameo. You know. I wasn't
- 9:51Speaker 1: I definitely wasn't put in there for comic relief because
- 9:54Speaker 1: I wasn't in there long enough. But most of the
- 9:57Speaker 1: pictures that I do get cast, and that's that's what
- 9:59Speaker 1: I'm there. I'm gonna just tell you this. I wasn't
- 10:01Speaker 1: in the movie. There's a whole lot of people went
- 10:04Speaker 1: in there for one second and the star is boring Dough. Now, Okay,
- 10:08Speaker 1: you were in the movie. Okay, and and and got
- 10:11Speaker 1: a credit in the movie. And I guess what, I
- 10:14Speaker 1: saw you in the movie. Because I saw the movie
- 10:16Speaker 1: three times. I wanted these people. I see the beginning
- 10:19Speaker 1: of it, that I see the middle, that I catched
- 10:21Speaker 1: the end and then I come back and see the
- 10:22Speaker 1: whole movie and go, wow, I missed that part. So
- 10:25Speaker 1: I saw you in the movie. And so I always
- 10:27Speaker 1: tell me one thing I always knew about you, even
- 10:30Speaker 1: though you never spoke to me. You never saw me.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I saw a humble person. Did I Did I misread you? No,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you didn't misread me. Um. And I think that one
- 10:42Speaker 1: of the only reasons that we really never spoke be
- 10:44Speaker 1: sinnd it because whenever I saw you, most of the time,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you were so immersed in the steve or you know,
- 10:54Speaker 1: comedy and I would be backstage and it ain't like listen,
- 10:59Speaker 1: it ain't you didn't talk to me either. It wasn't like,
- 11:04Speaker 1: you know, you ignored me. But there was just so
- 11:06Speaker 1: much around them at the moment that there wasn't time
- 11:10Speaker 1: for us to click. I I know that, Um, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 1: it's easiest for me to be in the comedy zone.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I know that I can do dramatic acting because like
- 11:24Speaker 1: I said, I did see them before I ever did
- 11:27Speaker 1: um anything else. Yes, but my my, uh, you know,
- 11:33Speaker 1: A Star is Born, I was in two Academy Award
- 11:36Speaker 1: nominated films. A Star Is Born was nominated for the
- 11:39Speaker 1: Academy Award. I was able to go to the Golden Glows.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I was able to go to the Stack one, and
- 11:44Speaker 1: so was Borat. You know, people forget about to us
- 11:48Speaker 1: about that because that's really your big moment, right Well yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 1: but black black people didn't latch on the boat and
- 11:54Speaker 1: still have not the subside, but most didn't. That was
- 11:58Speaker 1: like a big thing, you know. That got me a
- 12:01Speaker 1: lot of attention in Europe and stuff like that because
- 12:04Speaker 1: Sasha being from you know, uh, London, I believe, um,
- 12:10Speaker 1: you know, was really big with the whole Ali g
- 12:13Speaker 1: thing and everything like that. Close on the same time
- 12:16Speaker 1: that Bora I came out, I was on tour with
- 12:20Speaker 1: Cat Williams. So it's like I had a black audience
- 12:25Speaker 1: that I had this white one, and then I'm just
- 12:27Speaker 1: saying that was about doing bor At. Was that six
- 12:31Speaker 1: months after the film came out, I was under guig order.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I couldn't tell nobody that I wasn't the Protestant too,
- 12:39Speaker 1: because I would reach my contract and here in l A,
- 12:42Speaker 1: you could be talking to anybody in the bar and
- 12:44Speaker 1: you say like that, what you don't know is they
- 12:47Speaker 1: worked for the movie company or they sleeping When somebody
- 12:49Speaker 1: worked for mo coming in the tail and then you
- 12:52Speaker 1: know you're in trouble. So for six months when I
- 12:54Speaker 1: went out, there was people who see me in the
- 12:57Speaker 1: bar to be like and you can't deny it, right,
- 13:03Speaker 1: That's amazing that I also didn't get to do any
- 13:06Speaker 1: of the promotional stuff. Siser and Ken Davindian, who played
- 13:10Speaker 1: they got to go on you know, Jay Leno, they
- 13:12Speaker 1: got to go on and there, They got to go
- 13:14Speaker 1: on that and talk about the movie. And I didn't
- 13:17Speaker 1: get to do any of that stuff. So I could
- 13:19Speaker 1: have been that had my quote unquote Tiffany had this moment.
- 13:23Speaker 1: But I get I got shut down a couple of times.
- 13:26Speaker 1: You know we're gonna be right back when we come back.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I saw you when you did your appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, Okay,
- 13:32Speaker 1: when you walk out there, and I want to talk
- 13:34Speaker 1: about that because it's amazing. My My life is such
- 13:37Speaker 1: a cool life. I get to see people and to
- 13:40Speaker 1: see them grow, and I can see the seed I could.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I can remember just watching Kevin Hodge just go from
- 13:45Speaker 1: stage and stage and stage and stage and stage, and
- 13:47Speaker 1: and watching you and and this many other comedians. I
- 13:51Speaker 1: did Deaf Company jam with Dave Chappelle. It's it's just
- 13:54Speaker 1: looking at life in the and you are living the life,
- 13:58Speaker 1: young lady, despite these pandemic times. When we come back,
- 14:01Speaker 1: we're gonna speak more about a career, more about this
- 14:04Speaker 1: platinum long hair, these manicured long nails. I'm talking to Luno,
- 14:09Speaker 1: be right back with more money making conversations. It's finally here,

- 16:07Speaker 1: Dot Ai. Hi this Rashan McDonald. You're listening to money
- 16:10Speaker 1: making conversations. I have Lunelle, fabulous stand up comedian I've
- 16:15Speaker 1: followed and looked at over the years and watched the
- 16:17Speaker 1: career blossom. And last year, uh, the great movie came
- 16:22Speaker 1: out called Dolan Is My Name, starring my man Eddie Murphy.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Uh Uh. It's kind of interesting because I'm a former
- 16:30Speaker 1: stand up comedian, so Dolomite had an impact on me,
- 16:34Speaker 1: and so so watching that movie is almost kind of
- 16:38Speaker 1: like watching a bit of my life because I know
- 16:41Speaker 1: where I met Dolomite. I performed with Dolomite, and so
- 16:45Speaker 1: he had a place in my heart and and I
- 16:48Speaker 1: got to grow, and then I got to see you,
- 16:50Speaker 1: Lunelle performing a very very funny character, uh, opposite Eddie
- 16:55Speaker 1: Murphy and hold your own when you go. Eddie Murphy's
- 16:58Speaker 1: kind of like the Michael Jordan's and a comedy to me. Okay,
- 17:02Speaker 1: so when you're sharing the screen with somebody like Eddie Murphy,
- 17:05Speaker 1: do you what are your thoughts when you when you
- 17:07Speaker 1: get catching a role like that? Do you are you nervous?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Do you feel you have to step off? Do you
- 17:12Speaker 1: do you what? What? What are your thoughts right there?
- 17:13Speaker 1: Lou new Well, I must say that had I not
- 17:21Speaker 1: already had a relationship with Eddie, it would have been
- 17:25Speaker 1: a total mind mind you know what I'm saying, because
- 17:29Speaker 1: he is the goat. Like for me, there's Richard and
- 17:32Speaker 1: there's Eddie in that order, and then there's everybody that. Um,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I knew Eddie socially. I had been the parties with
- 17:41Speaker 1: Eddie and stuff like that. And Eddie knew me because
- 17:45Speaker 1: I was very good friends with Charlie, Charlie Rest in Peace,
- 17:49Speaker 1: Charlie Back, Charlie and I made movie together, Charlie and
- 17:54Speaker 1: I did projects together. Charlie and I, you know, would
- 17:58Speaker 1: kick it together. I went to see him during the
- 18:01Speaker 1: Black and Brown comedy get Down with him and g
- 18:04Speaker 1: l and Joyde's Lopez and said, and um, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 1: so Eddie knew knew me like for years, and I
- 18:15Speaker 1: even have pictures here in the house with me and
- 18:17Speaker 1: Eddie and all of that. Also, I knew Rudy as well.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I just was had in my hand the Rudy Raymore
- 18:28Speaker 1: Dolomite bobo head that Rudy gave me. Rudy gave me
- 18:31Speaker 1: a Baba Head. He gave me a backscratcher. He gave
- 18:35Speaker 1: me some albums that were raided five X like not
- 18:39Speaker 1: triple eggs like five x. And he gave me his
- 18:42Speaker 1: whole video collection. Pete Wee Straw, The Devil, Sun Law,
- 18:46Speaker 1: and Dolomite Is My Name, I mean Dolomite and um,
- 18:51Speaker 1: you know the like three others. So one of the
- 18:55Speaker 1: things I knew for a fact is that Rudy did
- 18:59Speaker 1: not want to be forgotten, you know. And my agent
- 19:03Speaker 1: came to me and was like, I got audition for
- 19:06Speaker 1: you today and the movie is called Dolomite is My Name?
- 19:11Speaker 1: And I said, Dolomite making a movie about do mate?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Is this for reality seri? And they were like that
- 19:20Speaker 1: and um. Then they told me that it started Eddie
- 19:23Speaker 1: Murphy and I was like, get out of here. I know,
- 19:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna get to work with Eddie. Like come on,
- 19:28Speaker 1: y'all just churking my chain. You must just have people
- 19:31Speaker 1: you want to audition and you just need to you know,
- 19:34Speaker 1: them running through the room. They know what they got
- 19:37Speaker 1: the right right. So I went to the audition and
- 19:44Speaker 1: actually the audition that the part I was on Disney
- 19:47Speaker 1: for was a part of Lady Read, not the part
- 19:50Speaker 1: that I yet. Our audition for that role, and I
- 19:56Speaker 1: had seven callbacks. We even did a screen tell us
- 20:00Speaker 1: with the wig and with the outfit and everything like that.
- 20:03Speaker 1: As it turns out, the role went to the vine
- 20:06Speaker 1: Joy Randall, which is fine. I think she did a
- 20:09Speaker 1: fine job and I like her. Yes, she's an old
- 20:13Speaker 1: theater actress. That's why nobody knows who she is, because
- 20:16Speaker 1: theater is great. But you can you can do a
- 20:20Speaker 1: chose a week for ten years on Broadway and do
- 20:24Speaker 1: thirty minutes on television, and more people will know you
- 20:27Speaker 1: in that thirty minutes than will will in the ten
- 20:29Speaker 1: years you are Broadway. That's just a fact. So the
- 20:32Speaker 1: Banjo Randol is a theater actress. Then Craig Brewer, who
- 20:38Speaker 1: had done Puzzle and Flow and did Dolomite is my
- 20:41Speaker 1: name and has directors coming to America the quest. Craig
- 20:46Speaker 1: like me so much that he didn't want to let
- 20:47Speaker 1: me go, and and he saw my dimensions and everything
- 20:52Speaker 1: like that. And I can take direction after auditions seven times,
- 20:55Speaker 1: so he gave me the part of his hands. So
- 20:58Speaker 1: I was very very happy to have at because I
- 21:00Speaker 1: didn't have to share the room with a bunch of cats.
- 21:03Speaker 1: It was just Eddie and myself. Eddie and myself and
- 21:05Speaker 1: I had a great time. Then fast forward to Craig
- 21:10Speaker 1: Brewer is now doing Coming to America and I didn't
- 21:14Speaker 1: have to auditions for that cuign So I'm very happy
- 21:19Speaker 1: to be in to Eddie Murphy movies back to back,
- 21:22Speaker 1: and there's Coming to America's sequel is gonna blow everybody's mind.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I was just telling my um Instagram live audience earlier
- 21:31Speaker 1: that there's some fake flyers going around about Coming to America.
- 21:35Speaker 1: They had Tiffany Hattish on him. Tiffany's not in the movie.
- 21:39Speaker 1: They said it's coming out August seven. That doesn't come
- 21:41Speaker 1: out to December. They said it's Coming to America too.
- 21:44Speaker 1: It's called Coming to America the Quest. So there's fake
- 21:47Speaker 1: flyers going around. Don't believe that. But the sequel to
- 21:52Speaker 1: Coming to America is one of the most amazing films
- 21:56Speaker 1: that I've ever been on. Of course, he's film done
- 21:58Speaker 1: Tyler Perry's old studio and the new studio. I got
- 22:02Speaker 1: a tourls a lot. I got to see the album stages.
- 22:05Speaker 1: It was so prideful and so amazing Plus, when you're
- 22:09Speaker 1: watching Coming to America in the living room thirty years ago,
- 22:13Speaker 1: you can't even fathom that there's gonna be a sequel
- 22:15Speaker 1: thirty years later and you'll be in it. That's why
- 22:18Speaker 1: when they say God can dream, dreams bigger. God got
- 22:21Speaker 1: bigger plans to you that you could ever dream, It's true,
- 22:24Speaker 1: you know. And I was very um lucky to be
- 22:28Speaker 1: in this film along with the great John Amos and
- 22:34Speaker 1: with James Jones, and you know, Vanessa Belle Callaway, And
- 22:39Speaker 1: there's so many of the people that were in it before.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Mostly all the people that were here before are in
- 22:44Speaker 1: it this time. The only person who passed away was
- 22:47Speaker 1: a great Match Sinclair, who played Prince Akim's a mother.
- 22:51Speaker 1: And then there's cameos and other roles by other people
- 22:55Speaker 1: that I can't say is giving me a hemory because
- 22:58Speaker 1: I got the pictures in my phone that I wanted drop,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and I've had almost a year now, and I'm like, oh,
- 23:03Speaker 1: I didn't say I want to just show them, and
- 23:05Speaker 1: I can't do it. But it's gonna be amazing. It's really, really,
- 23:09Speaker 1: really a wonderful experience. I'm blessed. One of the great
- 23:12Speaker 1: things on Barack. You couldn't promote, but you could promote.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Dolomite is my name. I'm watching Jimmy Kimmel because they were.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I saw a promotion, said Lunelle, from a pre promoted
- 23:23Speaker 1: that you was going to be on the show. And
- 23:25Speaker 1: when you came, when he introduced you and you came
- 23:27Speaker 1: out that beautiful dress, what ran through your mind? Because
- 23:32Speaker 1: you know I've been I have come out on stage,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I've been introduced like that, never at the level that
- 23:36Speaker 1: you was introduced. Because you introduced as a star on
- 23:40Speaker 1: a major late night television successful show talk walkers through
- 23:45Speaker 1: those steps emotionally. Um uh. And when you sat down
- 23:49Speaker 1: and did the interview, in the crowd reacting to you, Lunell, well,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you know I had also prior to the interview on Kimmel,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I had been lucky enough to obtain a residency at
- 24:04Speaker 1: his comedy club in Las Vegas. But some of the
- 24:06Speaker 1: people got a chance to see me before the shutdown. Um.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I was at Jimmy Kimmel's comedy club in Las Vegas
- 24:15Speaker 1: every Sunday night at ten o'clock. So we had been
- 24:19Speaker 1: talking to them about the fact that yo, I'm Jimmy's
- 24:22Speaker 1: resident like I'm here every week. You know, most people
- 24:26Speaker 1: would come in. They may do a weekend, they may
- 24:28Speaker 1: go somewhere or something like that, but they I was
- 24:31Speaker 1: there every Sunday, every Sunday at ten pm. So when
- 24:35Speaker 1: it came through to my agent said yeah, we're gonna
- 24:38Speaker 1: be able. You know you're gonna be able to do
- 24:39Speaker 1: the show, I was just elated because I've always pictured
- 24:43Speaker 1: myself kitting at the desk. You know, if it wasn't Carson,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and I thought it'd be the winnout, it wasn't Lenos,
- 24:50Speaker 1: and I thought it'd be a Letterman. If it wasn't Letterman,
- 24:52Speaker 1: I didn't know what was gonna happen. But I did
- 24:54Speaker 1: get a chance to walk out there from behind the
- 24:58Speaker 1: curtain and our fit that I was very proud to
- 25:01Speaker 1: wear by a black designer named Angela Dene. I was
- 25:06Speaker 1: able to, you know, be my witty self. I didn't
- 25:09Speaker 1: have to do stand up. I just was able to
- 25:13Speaker 1: sit there and you know, be me, and um, it
- 25:18Speaker 1: was great. You know, Jimmy's very kind, He's a very
- 25:21Speaker 1: kind person, and um, he was very into me. He
- 25:26Speaker 1: makes you feel very important. You know. I was low
- 25:29Speaker 1: key flirting like I always do very cute at it,
- 25:33Speaker 1: very cute at it, showing those nails, showing those nails, yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 1: all that stuff. So it was it was a wonderful,
- 25:43Speaker 1: wonderful experience. And I'm glad that I have the tape.
- 25:46Speaker 1: You know that my daughter was there with me. I had, uh,
- 25:51Speaker 1: my crew that day was my agent, my manager, my stylast,
- 25:56Speaker 1: my daughter, and um glode the white, the late very
- 26:01Speaker 1: white white. She's not very dear friends. So she was
- 26:04Speaker 1: backstage with her sister Landa up and um, yeah, and
- 26:09Speaker 1: a couple of more people that I loved, and so
- 26:12Speaker 1: I did have a crew, and it was it was great.
- 26:15Speaker 1: You know, we celebrated after we went to Yamaha old
- 26:18Speaker 1: back when you could find dying and stuff like that,
- 26:23Speaker 1: and and uh, it was you know, it was dream
- 26:27Speaker 1: come true, you know, and that's why that's why I
- 26:31Speaker 1: was excited about it. You know, when you when you
- 26:33Speaker 1: came out there, so people standing for you, assuming there
- 26:36Speaker 1: might have been some of your crew members, said dad,
- 26:39Speaker 1: your daddy, your daddy, your dad, and then you sitting
- 26:43Speaker 1: down like a star like you you belong there, You
- 26:45Speaker 1: belong there. And I noticed and I'm not this is
- 26:48Speaker 1: not the end of your journey. It's the start of
- 26:50Speaker 1: an even bigger journey. How are you dealing with this pandemic? Now?
- 26:54Speaker 1: My friend, before we get out of here, I was
- 26:57Speaker 1: made for quarantine. Trust me, I haven't. I've been had three,
- 27:03Speaker 1: you know, almost three months to get anywhere in the
- 27:06Speaker 1: thirty years that I've been doing stand up, and I
- 27:09Speaker 1: haven't even had this much time to lay around at
- 27:12Speaker 1: home with my husband because I was always working from
- 27:16Speaker 1: the time that you know, I started doing the stand
- 27:20Speaker 1: up in Long Beach and they went back to Oakland,
- 27:22Speaker 1: where I'm from and was working on the soul be
- 27:25Speaker 1: Television network, and then came back out to l A
- 27:28Speaker 1: and get want to stand Ever, went on tour where
- 27:30Speaker 1: Captain started my own tour and got the rid of
- 27:32Speaker 1: that we don't get ninety days, ninety days to lay
- 27:36Speaker 1: at home. It's not like I'm laying on the beaches
- 27:38Speaker 1: of Tahiti. You know, I'm at home. And uh, you know,
- 27:43Speaker 1: we've gotten real creative. I started my YouTube show. For
- 27:47Speaker 1: anybody out there who's interested in YouTube or has my Instagram,
- 27:50Speaker 1: me to click the Lincoln the bio. It's called helu
- 27:53Speaker 1: now h E y l u E n E l

- 28:01Speaker 1: four Pacific time. And um, so you know you get
- 28:05Speaker 1: creative when you're at the house and I've been cooking
- 28:07Speaker 1: and doing the mommy thing and doing the white thing.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I told my husband the other day, I said, I
- 28:13Speaker 1: will be going back to work to enjoy it. This
- 28:15Speaker 1: why you can't to them movie starle WHI. I love it.
- 28:21Speaker 1: She is the original bad girl of comedy. You've seen
- 28:24Speaker 1: that Doler, You've seen him. She is a queen to me.
