- 1:31Speaker 1: Brown and Alicia et Rich Brown. Welcome to Money Making
- 1:34Speaker 1: Conversation Abouster Class. Hello Sean having us. You know, I
- 1:38Speaker 1: don't know what I want to see, Bobby. You know
- 1:40Speaker 1: I would like to keep that energy up. You know,
- 1:42Speaker 1: it's about energy with you. Man. When the last time
- 1:44Speaker 1: we connected was such a circulars sixty years ago, had
- 1:48Speaker 1: the season and out there, I took away two packs
- 1:50Speaker 1: ticket home, dropped it on me some chicken and brother,
- 1:53Speaker 1: it was good man, it was really really good. Brother.
- 1:57Speaker 1: But this this whole series, Alicia, when you talk about it,
- 2:00Speaker 1: because you serving as one of the executive producer, you
- 2:02Speaker 1: mentioned how your relationship, how you have met and how
- 2:05Speaker 1: I played out along the way. Now you have a
- 2:08Speaker 1: very successful not only a marriage as a loving couple,
- 2:12Speaker 1: but a business couple. How does that work in this
- 2:16Speaker 1: world because you're also managing as well. Talk to us
- 2:18Speaker 1: right quick? Yeah, I think, um, you know, positive relationships
- 2:23Speaker 1: are important. And when Bobby and I started working together first,
- 2:27Speaker 1: we uh just fit perfectly on like he was talented
- 2:33Speaker 1: with and what I could execute for him. So the
- 2:36Speaker 1: management side kind of worked real uh seamlessly, which is
- 2:41Speaker 1: very nice, you know. Obviously than getting into our personal relationship.
- 2:46Speaker 1: We just have to find balance. Like everything in life,
- 2:49Speaker 1: you know, we have to respect one another as individuals.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We have to um uh support one another, and you know,
- 2:56Speaker 1: you have to find that balance, which is important when
- 2:59Speaker 1: you have home life and work life. But it's been
- 3:02Speaker 1: a natural progression for us to start businesses together, the
- 3:07Speaker 1: Bobby Round foodline as you mentioned, you know, and um
- 3:10Speaker 1: a lot of the projects that Bobby handles. You know,
- 3:13Speaker 1: we do everything together. We um bring our best tools
- 3:17Speaker 1: to the game, and we are teammates. That's really how
- 3:21Speaker 1: it works. Well, you know, we're not a key words,
- 3:23Speaker 1: she was saying continually in her conversation that she spoken
- 3:27Speaker 1: was balance, and Bobby, the word balance I think in
- 3:31Speaker 1: this four episode is I think a term that really
- 3:34Speaker 1: fit you. Felt like he was always trying to find
- 3:36Speaker 1: your balance, your place. You know, we won't talk for
- 3:40Speaker 1: a minute. It was just not a quick interview, but
- 3:42Speaker 1: let's let's talk about that balance. Especially the first episode
- 3:45Speaker 1: talks about where you grew up and then as you
- 3:48Speaker 1: went through life finding your manhood. Just talk about it.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And then she says management, which we know it. Early
- 3:53Speaker 1: on you were, like all of you guys were taking
- 3:56Speaker 1: advantage of as kids because there was no balance. Talk
- 3:59Speaker 1: about that, Bobby. Well, in the beginning of my career,
- 4:04Speaker 1: of course, Um, with new addition, there were you know,
- 4:09Speaker 1: five eagles, you know who you know wanted to go
- 4:14Speaker 1: a certain direction, wanted to be a certain way. And
- 4:20Speaker 1: that's where I had to find myself, where where I
- 4:23Speaker 1: fit in in the group and where I fit in
- 4:26Speaker 1: in life period. Um with me, I I I I
- 4:32Speaker 1: tend to um judge myself a little harshly, uh, because
- 4:38Speaker 1: of because of the difficulties I've had when as I
- 4:42Speaker 1: was growing up. But um, you know, learning to love
- 4:47Speaker 1: myself and learning to treat myself with respect and learning
- 4:50Speaker 1: to treat others with the same respect. UM. I think
- 4:54Speaker 1: has helped me uh progress in in in in in
- 4:57Speaker 1: a major way, in a major has allowed me to
- 5:01Speaker 1: look at the series that was very honest I felt,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and and as you sat there, there's a lot of
- 5:08Speaker 1: reflection I felt in this series. And you know, I know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: I know they're very moments of that reflection. But can
- 5:15Speaker 1: you tell us a couple of moments and that reflection,
- 5:17Speaker 1: because it's like writing a book, and you know what
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'm talking with Lizzy. You know, we're writing a book.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You start remembering things when they come back and go, oh,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I forgot to say this. Did you leave it all
- 5:27Speaker 1: on the table, Bobby, or you said I should have
- 5:29Speaker 1: added this? No, we left it all all the time.
- 5:36Speaker 1: This became very therapeutic. Yes, yes, to get everything out
- 5:41Speaker 1: and get the cobwebs out and and be able to
- 5:44Speaker 1: move forward with life on on my terms, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 1: on good terms. UM was everything for me. I also
- 5:54Speaker 1: think that timing is everything, you know, for us in
- 5:57Speaker 1: our lives, and this was the perfect time for this
- 6:01Speaker 1: documentary to be uh to come to light. UH. It's
- 6:06Speaker 1: been approached to us before and we have considered doing
- 6:09Speaker 1: it as well as the series. But timing is everything
- 6:13Speaker 1: in life, you know. Obviously Bobby has gone through, our
- 6:17Speaker 1: whole family has gone through quite a bit of loss
- 6:21Speaker 1: and a lot of highs and some lows that are major.
- 6:24Speaker 1: But it's really where you are and figuring out where
- 6:27Speaker 1: you're going right and everything is not always for right now.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You have to really know when the timing is aligned
- 6:37Speaker 1: you and I think for Bobby, like he mentioned, this
- 6:40Speaker 1: was very therapeutic for all of our family and for
- 6:43Speaker 1: him to express his emotions and touch upon things that,
- 6:46Speaker 1: like you said, you may have forgotten, but then you'll
- 6:49Speaker 1: remind you real quick and it takes you right back there,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you know. I wish it had added. It was a
- 6:55Speaker 1: very fun bonent that Bobby and I had. What it
- 6:57Speaker 1: was it the Neighborhood Awards called the Hoodia Wards in
- 7:00Speaker 1: Vegas in Vegas, and we kept saying that. Steve Harvey said, Man,
- 7:04Speaker 1: you think Bobby gonna jump on that car? I said,
- 7:06Speaker 1: you know, Bobby with because we were at the front
- 7:08Speaker 1: of the stage there was a Ford car that was
- 7:11Speaker 1: our title sponsor, our title sponsor, you know, and and
- 7:15Speaker 1: everybody we've done this show for sixteen years. Nobody has
- 7:18Speaker 1: ever jumped on the car. That's who jumped on the car,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Bobby Brown for the place lost their mind, Bobby. But
- 7:25Speaker 1: that's how you were, man. You always took it and
- 7:28Speaker 1: this and I'm smiling because I was laughing so hard
- 7:31Speaker 1: and back and then my sponsor Ford came up. They go,
- 7:35Speaker 1: is he standing on our car? Go yeah, yeah, and
- 7:38Speaker 1: the crowd going crazy and she said, yeah, that's that's
- 7:41Speaker 1: good Brandy. That's good Brandon. So but that's that's what
- 7:47Speaker 1: you That's that's who you are, man. You are a
- 7:50Speaker 1: guy who pushes it to the edge but still understands
- 7:55Speaker 1: respects that there's this is about entertainment, correct, Yes, it is.
- 7:59Speaker 1: It's always about entertainment with me. Um, That's that's what
- 8:03Speaker 1: I've always dreamed. That's what I dreamed of, was being
- 8:07Speaker 1: the greatest entertainer. I've watched people like Sammy Davis and
- 8:12Speaker 1: Michael Jackson and Presley um and and just made myself,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, try to conform myself into all three of
- 8:22Speaker 1: those individuals, you know, um and through a little Rick
- 8:27Speaker 1: James and Prince in there with him. But entertainment is
- 8:31Speaker 1: everything for me, man. You know, Um, I don't know
- 8:36Speaker 1: where I'd beat without as as well as I guess
- 8:39Speaker 1: you could say a little hip gyration from Elvis Presley
- 8:42Speaker 1: because them hips them hips with gyrade brother. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:46Speaker 1: that's that's what at least he was. I was looking
- 8:54Speaker 1: at this dude, I said, his boy either gona. He
- 8:56Speaker 1: didn't break his back, he didn't break his step, he
- 8:58Speaker 1: didn't throw his show out of whack because you are
- 9:01Speaker 1: just a gyrating food. Bobby Brown, listen, I can I
- 9:06Speaker 1: can attest that it is something in the blood because
- 9:10Speaker 1: little stunt cashes can shake his hips still, so it's natural.
- 9:16Speaker 1: You know you toured with There was a moment in
- 9:20Speaker 1: the Doctor talked about Rick James where you were sitting
- 9:23Speaker 1: on the side and that kind of like and like
- 9:26Speaker 1: you said, you you you saw a guy who took
- 9:28Speaker 1: it to the edge. You guy left it on the stage.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You who who was irreverence in his reaction to what
- 9:35Speaker 1: you thought of him. He's gonna tell you what he
- 9:37Speaker 1: thinks of himself. And then projected in his performances. What
- 9:40Speaker 1: impact did Rick havill you? Because you mentioned his name, Ria,
- 9:43Speaker 1: Michael Jackson, things like these impactful talents. But Rick James
- 9:47Speaker 1: is particularly mentioned in the Doctorseries. Yes, Rick James played
- 9:52Speaker 1: a major part in my life just from being being, um,
- 9:58Speaker 1: a solid, solid Chad. He was a solid, you know
- 10:02Speaker 1: individual that that taught me most of most of what
- 10:07Speaker 1: I know about entertaining, about being on stage, about you know, showmanship,
- 10:13Speaker 1: about being thankful for what I have you know in
- 10:18Speaker 1: the history. Um, he was just a really good mentor
- 10:23Speaker 1: absolutely and your thoughts on that, Alicia, Yeah, I also
- 10:28Speaker 1: feel that he was very important in his transition from
- 10:33Speaker 1: a boy band to a solo artist. That was very major.
- 10:36Speaker 1: And that's when Bobby really owned the stage and owned
- 10:39Speaker 1: that because he wanted to be something different than what
- 10:44Speaker 1: we knew him in New Edition. He really became Bobby Brown.
- 10:48Speaker 1: You know, that was an important time for him. And
- 10:51Speaker 1: I know Rick James was um very imperative at that time.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And that's what we was talking talking about the word balance, balance,
- 10:58Speaker 1: finding who you are. But you're a young man. You
- 11:02Speaker 1: would like to say you got discovered, and you know
- 11:04Speaker 1: it was more important when that two fifty dollars than
- 11:07Speaker 1: getting a contract when you got discovered about more restar
- 11:10Speaker 1: because that's the life, that's the poverty level or the
- 11:12Speaker 1: lifestyle level that you were living at that time. Where
- 11:15Speaker 1: is to show me the money versus the opportunity. That
- 11:17Speaker 1: was a balance. And then as you you know, I
- 11:20Speaker 1: love every time Ricky Bell was interviewed, he always called
- 11:22Speaker 1: you Bob, and everybody was saying, Bobby, I know he
- 11:25Speaker 1: is Bobby Brown. He called you Bob. Talk about the
- 11:28Speaker 1: relationship that you have with those young men, Bob, as
- 11:33Speaker 1: Ricky Barrell always called you the relationship that I have
- 11:38Speaker 1: with my brothers or something. So um, they are they are.
- 11:45Speaker 1: They're just there. You know, They're always there for me
- 11:47Speaker 1: and each time I need them. They they've been there,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, through my ups and downs. You know, they
- 11:55Speaker 1: don't judge me. You know, they just they just solid.
- 11:59Speaker 1: You know, they just they believe in what I believe in,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and that's truth and honesty. Well they did judge you
- 12:07Speaker 1: one time. That was in the Oka and Oakland and
- 12:14Speaker 1: that's when all Oakland was was the show where uh
- 12:21Speaker 1: new edition within different directions. But I think that when
- 12:24Speaker 1: you're doing something, and I've been there to team and say,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you know you're doing something is yeah, you're making money,
- 12:31Speaker 1: but you're frustrated when you wake up in the morning,
- 12:33Speaker 1: when you go to sleep, or you being we always
- 12:35Speaker 1: tell people is that you can make money being somebody else,
- 12:39Speaker 1: but when you fall down, can you get up being
- 12:41Speaker 1: that person that you are not? And I felt that
- 12:44Speaker 1: that's what you were, That's what you were battling the
- 12:46Speaker 1: whole time. You're just blessed an opportunity, but you could
- 12:50Speaker 1: not be yourself. What was going through your mind? And
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask you that, Bobby, and then want you
- 12:55Speaker 1: were sparking because you you got to see it, because
- 12:57Speaker 1: you was in the industry and you got to see it,
- 12:58Speaker 1: get to hear the rumor and then the feedback on
- 13:01Speaker 1: all this was going down. Talk to us right quick, Bobby.
- 13:05Speaker 1: What was going through my mind? Was you know, um
- 13:08Speaker 1: that I needed to I needed to release. I needed
- 13:12Speaker 1: to release all of the things that I was feeling inside,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know. Um, So me being a solo artist, uh
- 13:22Speaker 1: really was was? It was inevitable? You know, I was
- 13:28Speaker 1: supposed to be a solo artist in the beginning, but
- 13:31Speaker 1: new addition took me to the heights that I was.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I that that got me through the door. Um, you know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: becoming a solo artist was you know, my main goal. Anyway.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I think it's great that you'll see in the documentary
- 13:46Speaker 1: as well. Uh, Johnny. I believe and Ricky and Bobby
- 13:50Speaker 1: are have talking about exactly that when they were younger,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and you know, the things that were being told to
- 13:59Speaker 1: them to you know, make sure Bobby was kicked out
- 14:02Speaker 1: of the group basically because it was going to harm
- 14:05Speaker 1: them instead of embracing Bobby becoming an individual, because this
- 14:10Speaker 1: was supposed to be, you know, just so tight, cookie
- 14:14Speaker 1: cutter kind of tight. And Bobby was going through growing pains.
- 14:17Speaker 1: He needed to express himself and he needed to do
- 14:20Speaker 1: something different on stage, and we're just happy that he
- 14:23Speaker 1: got the opportunity to do it. We'll be right back
- 14:25Speaker 1: with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now,
- 14:32Speaker 1: let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Well,
- 14:38Speaker 1: you know, the interesting thing about it is that you know,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I'm older than both for you too, so and that's
- 14:43Speaker 1: a good thing because of the fact that I get
- 14:45Speaker 1: to see life different in a different set of eyes.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And the new addition when it when the Candie Girl
- 14:51Speaker 1: came out, it's struck positive in my community because you know,
- 14:55Speaker 1: we didn't have we all these little white groups came out,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and when y'all came out and it was like, wow,
- 15:00Speaker 1: you know, it really was a wild Bobby. It really
- 15:03Speaker 1: was new. Addition, was a wild for the black community
- 15:06Speaker 1: because of the fact that you know, the Jackson fives
- 15:09Speaker 1: don't count, they don't count, you know, you know, but
- 15:12Speaker 1: you guys were like me. I was a young black boy,
- 15:16Speaker 1: teenagers and moved into manhood. And seeing y'all talk in
- 15:21Speaker 1: and and and react and move and dance, and seeing
- 15:24Speaker 1: other women that I won't want y'all, that was that
- 15:29Speaker 1: was a lot to take in. But also I wanted
- 15:32Speaker 1: to be, you know, because I grew up wanting to
- 15:33Speaker 1: be Michael Jackson. Then I shifted and I wanted to
- 15:36Speaker 1: be Bobby Brown. You know what I'm saying. That's that's
- 15:38Speaker 1: two totally different people. You turned on a different light
- 15:44Speaker 1: switch for a lot of black teenagers and black grown
- 15:48Speaker 1: men because we couldn't be Michael Jackson. But boy, I
- 15:55Speaker 1: could beat Bobby Brown. He dressed like me, he walked
- 15:59Speaker 1: like me, he parted like me. He did things on
- 16:02Speaker 1: stage and I wish I could do that. Women were
- 16:04Speaker 1: clamoring on him, you know, Michael Jackson, when you know
- 16:07Speaker 1: he was you know, he was knew that he was
- 16:10Speaker 1: just out there the perform. You really wanted every girl
- 16:13Speaker 1: in that stadium to want you. That's a powerful pull, brother,
- 16:17Speaker 1: and I thank you for that. You're so welcome. But
- 16:22Speaker 1: talking about that, because that was a crissipal, that was
- 16:24Speaker 1: like to say, that's a lot of work. I've been
- 16:27Speaker 1: a perform as a stand up command comedian, I've been
- 16:29Speaker 1: in front the twenty thousand people. I know what you
- 16:32Speaker 1: walk on stage, there's a responsibility when you say hello
- 16:36Speaker 1: to you said good night. What do people take away
- 16:39Speaker 1: from you? My takeaway was like, Wow, what was your
- 16:43Speaker 1: takeaway when you was out there? My takeaway was just loving,
- 16:48Speaker 1: loving every moment of I mean every moment of it. Um,
- 16:53Speaker 1: that that was that was my that was my that
- 16:57Speaker 1: was my school, that was my home, that was my church,
- 17:01Speaker 1: that was that was my everything. Just being on stage
- 17:04Speaker 1: and performing from people. Um, I still get a big
- 17:09Speaker 1: kick out of it, you know. Um, it's still something
- 17:13Speaker 1: that that that just just makes me boil inside right
- 17:18Speaker 1: right right, people, at least when I when I when
- 17:22Speaker 1: I told you, when you hear my craziness looking at
- 17:24Speaker 1: this young man here and how he affected me, and
- 17:29Speaker 1: and what are your thoughts? You know, because I'm not
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm not the first person said that. Even
- 17:33Speaker 1: people in the video and the Doctor Sries talk about
- 17:36Speaker 1: celebrities talk about how, you know, how they they saw you.
- 17:40Speaker 1: It was it was y'all, aren't that performing? But they
- 17:43Speaker 1: zeroed in on you and what you were doing, how
- 17:46Speaker 1: you were performing, how you were interacting, your point of view.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I think we should say that very clearly. You had
- 17:52Speaker 1: a point of view. You were just fighting to have
- 17:55Speaker 1: it heard. Absolutely, I agree with what you said. I mean,
- 18:00Speaker 1: obviously I witnessed and grew up with Bobby a new
- 18:02Speaker 1: edition as well, But Bobby always had that star fact
- 18:06Speaker 1: that he came on that stage and demanded the attention, right,
- 18:11Speaker 1: that's something that you know, not everybody has, and he
- 18:15Speaker 1: maximized that. You know, he took that to another level.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I mean, you can't forget seeing a Bobby Brown concert
- 18:21Speaker 1: without remembering coming out in his throne, bringing the girls
- 18:26Speaker 1: up on stage and really giving it to them and
- 18:29Speaker 1: really making this a show that you talked about forever.
- 18:33Speaker 1: You know, you talked about it, we still talked about it.
- 18:35Speaker 1: But that pure entertainment gift that he has is wow.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I agree with you that, I mean, when you but
- 18:45Speaker 1: at least when he jumped on top of that forward
- 18:47Speaker 1: car went wow, wow, you people, you know what I'm saying.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And he just did it. That went wow, And I said,
- 18:58Speaker 1: you know, I got knew it was gonna happen. And
- 19:01Speaker 1: that was a good thing because he gave me what
- 19:03Speaker 1: I expected from him, which is maximum performance, maximum wow.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And that's that's the beauty of what I what I
- 19:10Speaker 1: took away. Because there's some really nice moments in this biography.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I think the most touching was the moment that you
- 19:17Speaker 1: moments that you shared with Usher talk about that, the
- 19:22Speaker 1: moments with us Um that was really special to me
- 19:25Speaker 1: because he's one of the individuals in this entertainment field
- 19:30Speaker 1: that I really respect. I really uh. I think he's
- 19:34Speaker 1: doing a great job doing what he does best, and
- 19:37Speaker 1: that's entertained Um. He came to me when he was
- 19:41Speaker 1: just a young young Yes, they showed it too. Yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I wanted to get out and and and do it.
- 19:49Speaker 1: And I just just embraced him in moms and and
- 19:53Speaker 1: made sure that he he went the right directions as
- 19:57Speaker 1: far as you know, his career was concern um. Us
- 20:01Speaker 1: is a really talented brother and I'm just glad to
- 20:06Speaker 1: know him as a friend. Well, you know, this show
- 20:09Speaker 1: is filled with many celebrities because you know bivis in there.
- 20:12Speaker 1: You know, he's just got his tight T shirt on
- 20:14Speaker 1: showing under the arms and everything. You know, like you
- 20:17Speaker 1: still coop and throw down and everything. And you know
- 20:20Speaker 1: Ricky Bell's in there, of course, Ralph trans Van and
- 20:24Speaker 1: uh Ronne de Vot. It's just a group. Or then
- 20:28Speaker 1: when you when you look at the you know Key Swear,
- 20:30Speaker 1: that's my board, Captain Sexy in there, you know Ussher,
- 20:33Speaker 1: you know, Jermaine Dupris in their baby Phace. It's just
- 20:37Speaker 1: a lot of other professionals in the industry that commented
- 20:41Speaker 1: possibly about you know, we all, you know, we all
- 20:45Speaker 1: saw a part of history Bobby with you and when
- 20:48Speaker 1: you got the Bobby Brown Way in Boston Roxbury, that
- 20:55Speaker 1: is probably to be out of the four episodes. It
- 20:59Speaker 1: was a pro found moment for me to see happened.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Tells us about that energy because you know it was
- 21:05Speaker 1: on tape, but it was a build up to that moment.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You know, the mayor was there for you. Yeah, a
- 21:12Speaker 1: little black Bart from Roxberry. We're supposed to make it bipolar,
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. What it's supposed to be
- 21:19Speaker 1: anywhere near there. Um, it was. It was definitely a
- 21:23Speaker 1: big surprise. Um for me. We're just going to film,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you know, we were just going to film Michael Bivins. Um,
- 21:34Speaker 1: all of a sudden, here's this, here's the mayor and
- 21:38Speaker 1: all of these people out there to give me a street,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I mean to for for me to have a street
- 21:47Speaker 1: in Boston is just amazing. I mean, knowing that I
- 21:52Speaker 1: ran through all of them streets with uh, with some spark,
- 21:58Speaker 1: absolutely absolutely absolutely, you know, and putting this all together, Lesia,
- 22:03Speaker 1: you know, it's four episodes. You know this, It's called
- 22:05Speaker 1: the Beginning, and then the career, and then the you know,
- 22:09Speaker 1: then the Whitney relationship, and then moving to the pain,
- 22:13Speaker 1: the pain. I call it the pain episode. And when
- 22:16Speaker 1: when you talk about that, you know, you you've you've drawn,
- 22:20Speaker 1: you pulled him out, You've helped them get out of
- 22:21Speaker 1: that darkness, out of that pains, you know. And you
- 22:25Speaker 1: know because I've seen you know, Bobby, and you know,
- 22:27Speaker 1: we've been around and I you know, because I was
- 22:30Speaker 1: Steve Harvey all the time and music and interviewed him
- 22:33Speaker 1: setting rooms together and he may not even remember, but
- 22:36Speaker 1: I've always been there champion him and believing that there's
- 22:40Speaker 1: a better opportunity. He just needs to write people around him.
- 22:43Speaker 1: And you came in and you all that right person,
- 22:46Speaker 1: that trust factor, that balance that we've been talking about
- 22:48Speaker 1: this entire show, talking about pulling him out of that darkness,
- 22:52Speaker 1: those dark spaces. Yeah, you're absolutely going to be able
- 22:56Speaker 1: to experience that in this four part series of you know,
- 23:00Speaker 1: all the stuff Bobby has been through as well as
- 23:03Speaker 1: from his childhood and moving on and carrying it with you.
- 23:07Speaker 1: You know, Um, we don't stop and let that pain
- 23:11Speaker 1: or work through that enough. That's how you come out
- 23:13Speaker 1: of the darkness. I mean a lot of prayer as well. Um,
- 23:17Speaker 1: but yeah, it's been a journey to say the least.
- 23:20Speaker 1: But you know when I knew Bob Bobby and back
- 23:26Speaker 1: Bob Bob in those younger years and you'll get more
- 23:36Speaker 1: of that as well in this docuseries. And so watching
- 23:39Speaker 1: him grow and become a man and um, having the
- 23:42Speaker 1: challenges in battles, you know, you just want someone to
- 23:45Speaker 1: be solid by your side, and even if that's just
- 23:48Speaker 1: your friend, you know, you have to be able to
- 23:50Speaker 1: trust in something and someone or something bigger than yourself.
- 23:55Speaker 1: And so um, Yeah, we have come through the fire
- 24:00Speaker 1: and you know, we see light and we are just
- 24:03Speaker 1: living our lives with gratitude. It's just about really being
- 24:06Speaker 1: still sometimes and just really living in gratitude of the now,
- 24:12Speaker 1: because if you live in the past, it's just sometimes
- 24:15Speaker 1: too overwhelming, you know. And you'll see the tools that
- 24:19Speaker 1: we use to help ourselves. Absolutely. You have two projects
- 24:24Speaker 1: here on the A and E Network. This is the
- 24:26Speaker 1: biography of Bobby Brown and then you have a reality
- 24:29Speaker 1: dr Sears coming up Bobby Brown Every little step. Can
- 24:31Speaker 1: you give us some little teasers about what that's gonna
- 24:34Speaker 1: be about how many episodes you guys are gonna tape.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Can you give me just a little drop some nuggets
- 24:39Speaker 1: on me, miss executive producer. Come on, be quiet, let talk,
- 24:43Speaker 1: Let let me talk think. Come on, Lisa, Well, you
- 24:48Speaker 1: know that this series is going to be a twelve
- 24:51Speaker 1: episode series we're super excited about. You'll see the first
- 24:54Speaker 1: episode right after the docuse series, um a docu documentary,
- 24:59Speaker 1: I'm sorry, on thirty one, So it'll continue now. It'll
- 25:02Speaker 1: pick up basically where you see Bobby's life right with
- 25:06Speaker 1: myself and our children that live, our three little ones
- 25:09Speaker 1: that live with us, and you'll get some insight to
- 25:12Speaker 1: the older children as well, which is nice, but how
- 25:15Speaker 1: we live daily as a family. You know, there's not
- 25:17Speaker 1: enough examples of a black family that have a mother
- 25:20Speaker 1: and a father in the house. We just need to
- 25:22Speaker 1: see more of this. You know, this is reality because
- 25:25Speaker 1: we're just allowing you to see us as who we are,
- 25:29Speaker 1: and you're gonna see a lot of um. What Bobby
- 25:32Speaker 1: does best entertain right is natural state. He's not on stage,
- 25:37Speaker 1: but in our house we act like it's stage all
- 25:41Speaker 1: the time. We have kids that love to dance. You
- 25:44Speaker 1: want to say something, at least he want to say something.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Come on, come on, Bob, Come on, Bob, Come on. No, no,
- 25:51Speaker 1: I don't have anything to sign ahead. I love it,
- 25:56Speaker 1: but I love it. You know it's different for me
- 25:58Speaker 1: in front of the camera. But I'll tell you that
- 26:00Speaker 1: Bobby is as entertaining as ever, and you guys just
- 26:03Speaker 1: love it. It's endearing, it's intimate. You know, it's uh
- 26:07Speaker 1: celebrated and uh we don't really we don't really uh
- 26:13Speaker 1: you know say anything is off limits really basically, So
- 26:19Speaker 1: it's a it's a PG. You know, it's a family
- 26:23Speaker 1: uh something for everybody. Well, I want to thank both
- 26:28Speaker 1: of y'all. You know again, it's always a blessing. When
- 26:31Speaker 1: I talked to YouTube you you're you're so charming, so honest,
- 26:34Speaker 1: and the four part Doctorseries is a must watch. It's
- 26:37Speaker 1: a must watch because it's compelling, it's honest, and also
- 26:41Speaker 1: you're part of history, brother, you really are. You're part
- 26:44Speaker 1: of my life. You're part of every of Americana pop culture.
- 26:49Speaker 1: R and b um. If you know somebody, you know,
- 26:53Speaker 1: I forgot we when you did um. We work together
- 26:58Speaker 1: with Beyonce, say and you're Steve. When you was on
- 27:01Speaker 1: that that's when I realized you could act with with
- 27:04Speaker 1: the with the Cooper Gooden Jr. Beyonce is Steve Hard
- 27:07Speaker 1: We did that movie together with you. This brother right here,
- 27:10Speaker 1: connect right here, y'all. I have known him a long time,
- 27:14Speaker 1: a long time. And keep winning, brother and you two
- 27:17Speaker 1: and you keep him well. He's supposed to be balanced,
- 27:20Speaker 1: Tolicia because you're a special as well. Thank you. Oh
- 27:26Speaker 1: you welcome on, girl. I gotta get him of that season.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Come on. I want to buy what. I want to
- 27:30Speaker 1: sign it. My wife loved it, by the way, and

- 28:00Speaker 1: of the Inspiration. I sat down with dancer and actor
- 28:03Speaker 1: sky at Vester Black. He shared how Debbie Allen pushed
- 28:06Speaker 1: him into being an actor and what she saw on
- 28:08Speaker 1: him what I used to ask for the Rod gry
- 28:11Speaker 1: um Ms. Allen was the artist and director and choreographer
- 28:16Speaker 1: and even before that I had done. I worked with
- 28:18Speaker 1: her and she slipped at me and she said, honey,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you're not And I said, now you're not. That's not me.
- 28:24Speaker 1: She said, honey, you don't know who you are yet.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And she was so right from the beginning. She took
- 28:29Speaker 1: me under her wing and she gave me parts in
- 28:32Speaker 1: her stage. But it became this kind of like oh
- 28:35Speaker 1: this is cool again. With the training and everything like that.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I started to find this kind of I'll be honest,
- 28:42Speaker 1: it became an obsession for me. You can listen to
- 28:44Speaker 1: this full interview with sky at Vester Black is available
- 28:47Speaker 1: on money Making Conversation dot com. Now let's return to
- 28:50Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Welcome to Money
- 28:55Speaker 1: Making Conversation Master Class. I'm your host, ra Sean McDonald.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I recognized that we all have from definitions of success.
- 29:01Speaker 1: For you, it may be the size of your paycheck.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Mine has inspired people to accomplish their goals and live
- 29:06Speaker 1: their very best life. It's time to stop reading other
- 29:09Speaker 1: people's success stories to start writing your own. People always
- 29:12Speaker 1: talk about their purpose of gifts. If you have a gift,
- 29:15Speaker 1: leave with your gifts and know let your friends, family,
- 29:18Speaker 1: or coworkers stop you from planning or living your dream.
- 29:21Speaker 1: My next just is truly a dreamer. She's there's a
- 29:24Speaker 1: dream in everyge coop. She is the executive chef, owner
- 29:27Speaker 1: and founder of pre Relicious ice Cream. Criminal Lisius if
- 29:31Speaker 1: you don't know, Criminally in the news a lot lately
- 29:34Speaker 1: in a very positive way, but also she wants to
- 29:37Speaker 1: respond to some things that have been on social media.
- 29:39Speaker 1: But more importantly is about trust, and she trust and
- 29:42Speaker 1: believes that, you know, there's a just a purpose is
- 29:45Speaker 1: what she's doing in her life. I've invited on Money
- 29:47Speaker 1: Making Conversation master Class to tell our story to get
- 29:49Speaker 1: us updated. Welcome to the show. Executive chef Liz Rogers.
- 29:54Speaker 1: How are you? Are you looking good? Nice to see you.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Where are your based in? What's it the you're based in? So?
- 30:01Speaker 1: I'm based here in Cincinnati, Ohio. So I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And the whole brand of Creme Malicious, how did that
- 30:08Speaker 1: get started? I'm an executive chef and restaurant tour by trade,
- 30:13Speaker 1: So Cremelitious actually came from all the desserts that we
- 30:17Speaker 1: made homemade inside the restaurant and they were actually just
- 30:21Speaker 1: turned into ice cream desserts. So, so when I hear
- 30:25Speaker 1: things like slap your mama, you know, uh, you know,
- 30:29Speaker 1: the corn Poe, the sweep potato pie, all these things
- 30:33Speaker 1: are just Southern favorites. How did you manage to create really?
- 30:39Speaker 1: You know, because some people have versions of this, but
- 30:41Speaker 1: George tastes a little bit different and a lot better
- 30:45Speaker 1: than your competitors. How is that? I think it has
- 30:49Speaker 1: a great deal to do with me being a chef
- 30:52Speaker 1: and Criminalitious is like Disney where the storytellers. Uh, each
- 30:56Speaker 1: point is it's very authentic. It's about real times, real people,
- 31:00Speaker 1: it's about family. Um, it's an extremely authentic brand. Uh.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It really takes you back to childhood memories just when
- 31:08Speaker 1: times were better, you know, when we really didn't have
- 31:11Speaker 1: a worry or care in the world, where we can
- 31:13Speaker 1: be friends and and we can play until the street
- 31:16Speaker 1: lights come on, and you know, just all of those
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know, going to church and coming home and having
- 31:22Speaker 1: family dinners and and just waiting for the best part
- 31:26Speaker 1: of the dinner, which would be the dessert. Desserts always first,
- 31:29Speaker 1: and it's always the best and it's always the most
- 31:32Speaker 1: exciting part about eating. So I think that, um, we
- 31:36Speaker 1: really stand out just because each each one of the
- 31:39Speaker 1: pints they have a story, um that can really resonate
- 31:44Speaker 1: with just just an average person. Now, how did it
- 31:48Speaker 1: all start? Because I know, we know right now your
- 31:51Speaker 1: social media's blowing up. You know, there's a little controversy
- 31:55Speaker 1: around the Waltmont launching another ice cream called June tenth.
- 31:58Speaker 1: But before we get into that, how did you get
- 32:01Speaker 1: in the ice cream business? I've gotten the ice cream
- 32:06Speaker 1: business because I love I love food, I love desserts,
- 32:11Speaker 1: I love sweets, so I'd rather eat sweets than than
- 32:14Speaker 1: than regular food. And just really from just owning my
- 32:18Speaker 1: own restaurants and just being innovative, I pride myself on
- 32:23Speaker 1: being extremely innovative. Cremlicious is more than a dessert. Is
- 32:27Speaker 1: absolutely an experience. So we do take fresh bake pastries
- 32:31Speaker 1: from the South, um for generations of family owned recipes,
- 32:35Speaker 1: and we baked them in their entirety and they're combined
- 32:37Speaker 1: in the pint. So I really wanted in Alamo pint
- 32:40Speaker 1: the best of both worlds. I didn't want the consumer
- 32:43Speaker 1: to have to choose. They can have the best of
- 32:45Speaker 1: both worlds. And really really being innovative with the flavors
- 32:49Speaker 1: and the brand names and where the actual dessert originated from. Uh,
- 32:55Speaker 1: that was extremely important to me as well too, for
- 32:58Speaker 1: it to be a conversation piece. Now, now your brand
- 33:01Speaker 1: was out there doing well, you got picked up in
- 33:04Speaker 1: other stories besides Walmart, You in Target, you and other
- 33:07Speaker 1: stories that are competitors of Target and Walmart, but more
- 33:11Speaker 1: importantly Kroger's your Kroger stores. I know, I actually walked
- 33:16Speaker 1: were walking down the ice cream and I looked over
- 33:17Speaker 1: to my right. Now's how religious as a while you're
- 33:20Speaker 1: here too, So you know, a lot of as they say,
- 33:22Speaker 1: a level brand stores. Which is which is? Which is
- 33:26Speaker 1: amazing for a new product? What is? What is your
- 33:29Speaker 1: testimony or test us a statement when I tell you
- 33:33Speaker 1: you're in these high level stores. And you know, also,
- 33:35Speaker 1: if I'm missing any stores, please mention them, because I
- 33:38Speaker 1: don't want to upset any of your other clients. Yeah,
- 33:42Speaker 1: we're We're We're in Walmart, of course. Uh, We're in Kroger,
- 33:46Speaker 1: We're in Mire, Uh, We're in Target, Jungle Gyms, We're
- 33:50Speaker 1: all over the country. It's the national brand now. And
- 33:53Speaker 1: uh it's been a really amazing opportunity for crem Malicious
- 33:58Speaker 1: and the actual brand we have of Um, it's not
- 34:02Speaker 1: the easiest being an African American woman and minority ice
- 34:07Speaker 1: cream manufacturer at any rate. You know, Uh, cre Malicious
- 34:11Speaker 1: is one of the first and only African American ice
- 34:13Speaker 1: cream manufacturers and mass production in the world today. So
- 34:16Speaker 1: I really kind of set out to do this mostly
- 34:19Speaker 1: because I understood that there was just definitely a need,
- 34:23Speaker 1: there was this huge hole in the category. I felt um,
- 34:27Speaker 1: that's really overcome by these huge giants that's you know
- 34:31Speaker 1: in the world that you know has been here since
- 34:34Speaker 1: we were kids. And you know, for me, I you know,
- 34:37Speaker 1: it's cheers to the underdog. I just want other entrepreneurs
- 34:41Speaker 1: to understand that if they have a dream, they need
- 34:43Speaker 1: to just go for their dream and not be afraid
- 34:45Speaker 1: to take risks and you know, follow your passion and
- 34:48Speaker 1: as you always say, lead with your gifts. And I
- 34:50Speaker 1: really do believe in that, and I do I do
- 34:52Speaker 1: seek that as much as possible to be an inspiration
- 34:57Speaker 1: so that we can make room for other people to
- 34:59Speaker 1: be on the show as well. But I also know
- 35:01Speaker 1: that if opportunities do not come to you knocking on
- 35:05Speaker 1: your door, that it's time that we understand that we
- 35:07Speaker 1: have to go out and we have to create our
- 35:10Speaker 1: own opportunities and to not be afraid to call up
- 35:13Speaker 1: some of these retailers and say, hey, could you get
- 35:15Speaker 1: me a shot? And if they say no, you gotta
- 35:18Speaker 1: keep trying. At the end of the day, all they
- 35:20Speaker 1: can do is say no, but they may say yes absolutely,
- 35:23Speaker 1: and then you have to be ready when they say yes.
- 35:25Speaker 1: That's the whole key, you know, Like I said, you
- 35:27Speaker 1: can jump, but you better to jump with a plan,
- 35:29Speaker 1: better jump with a little money, and most important to
- 35:32Speaker 1: jump with the product to be able to deliver. Now,
- 35:35Speaker 1: there's a dream in every school because you started mentioning
- 35:38Speaker 1: about dreams and talking about people living their dream and
- 35:40Speaker 1: reaching their dream and not being deterred when their dreams
- 35:43Speaker 1: are being denied. Why do you say there's a dream
- 35:47Speaker 1: in every scoop or cream delicious? No, um, just having
- 35:53Speaker 1: this ice cream on the shelf. It's it's bigger than me, right,
- 35:56Speaker 1: it's it's so much bigger than me. It doesn't necessarily
- 35:58Speaker 1: mean that you know they're this this it's more than
- 36:01Speaker 1: just a pint of ice cream for for people to
- 36:03Speaker 1: eat and enjoy. It's the accomplishment of just almost doing
- 36:08Speaker 1: the impossible. You know, sometimes people don't believe in you,
- 36:12Speaker 1: they can't see your vision, they don't understand what you're
- 36:14Speaker 1: trying to do. And then everybody you know wants to
- 36:18Speaker 1: be around and they want to be with you when
- 36:20Speaker 1: you're winning, right, But nobody wants to to be on
- 36:24Speaker 1: that bus when it's slowing down. Everybody is jumping off,
- 36:27Speaker 1: and then you just have everybody that wants to ride
- 36:29Speaker 1: the bus when when it's going fast, you know, and
- 36:31Speaker 1: and and there's opportunity and people can see that, and
- 36:35Speaker 1: then there's this expiration date, right, so you're you're kind
- 36:38Speaker 1: of racing against time and you have to really understand,
- 36:41Speaker 1: you know, what it means to have hope. I mean,
- 36:44Speaker 1: hope keeps us driven, It keeps us in the game.
- 36:47Speaker 1: You know. You you feel like as long as you
- 36:49Speaker 1: have hope, you feel like you can actually win. You know,
- 36:52Speaker 1: once you lose hope, you're gonna lose, you know. So
- 36:55Speaker 1: I try really hard to make sure that I can
- 36:58Speaker 1: provide what I need for myself and what I've set
- 37:02Speaker 1: out to do, because you only have one life now.
- 37:05Speaker 1: You started becoming on various people's radar in the top
- 37:08Speaker 1: of the year January. I started seeing people free videos
- 37:12Speaker 1: of your cremolitions on TikTok and and so it was
- 37:16Speaker 1: so you were kind of like I wouldn't say underground
- 37:19Speaker 1: brand because you were in Target stories. Was like you said,
- 37:21Speaker 1: Myers and and the Jungle Gym and and then wal
- 37:26Speaker 1: wanted at the time, but then in January it seems
- 37:29Speaker 1: like the world discovered you. What impact did they have
- 37:32Speaker 1: on your business? Because I think you went in Kroger's
- 37:34Speaker 1: in March. Correct, that's correct. Um Croger's extended the brand
- 37:39Speaker 1: a lot more than what I thought they would, so
- 37:41Speaker 1: that was great. And just trying to keep up with
- 37:44Speaker 1: the demand for UM what's going on here, uh, you know,
- 37:48Speaker 1: just just out here and being compared to I mean,
- 37:51Speaker 1: like it's crazy because I'm like right on the shelf
- 37:53Speaker 1: next to Ben and Jerry Hogendos and Nestley. So it's
- 37:57Speaker 1: kind of unreal, you know, but it is happening, and
- 38:01Speaker 1: you know, it's it's not as easy to stay on
- 38:04Speaker 1: the shelf. You know. We're looking for, you know, support,
- 38:07Speaker 1: We're wanting to be acknowledged because we do have a
- 38:12Speaker 1: very good product. I'm still learning, I'm still perfecting my product.
- 38:16Speaker 1: I'm still learning what type of marketing to do, UM,
- 38:19Speaker 1: sorting out the people that's around me, building a stronger infrastructure,
- 38:24Speaker 1: and just really understanding people think that you can't make
- 38:28Speaker 1: any mistakes, like you're held to this really really high
- 38:31Speaker 1: standard and you don't get an opportunity to mess up,
- 38:34Speaker 1: you know. But the truth of the matter is, as
- 38:36Speaker 1: a business owner, you're gonna make a ton of mistakes.
- 38:39Speaker 1: You're gonna learn a lot of lessons but that doesn't
- 38:41Speaker 1: mean you have to live in your lessons. But I'm
- 38:43Speaker 1: in control of the pen. You know, I've I've decided
- 38:47Speaker 1: that I'm in control of my own headlines and my
- 38:50Speaker 1: own destiny and my own future. And you know, I
- 38:53Speaker 1: write my own headlines now. So with crem Malicious, there's
- 38:56Speaker 1: so much that I'm learning um in the consumer the
- 39:00Speaker 1: packaging goods. But I surround myself by a very knowledgeable team,
- 39:05Speaker 1: and you can't do everything by yourself when you're when
- 39:07Speaker 1: you're running a business. Now, Walmart, they put out an
- 39:13Speaker 1: ice cream called June teenth and it it was, it was,
- 39:17Speaker 1: it was. It was bad for them because they got
- 39:20Speaker 1: a lot of bad publicity, but in some ways it
- 39:22Speaker 1: was good for you, very very good talk about that
- 39:25Speaker 1: Yin and Yang that was happening, because suddenly, like in January,
- 39:30Speaker 1: people found you. But for a different reason. Now Walmart
- 39:34Speaker 1: has apologized. Let's make sure everybody understay. Walmart has apologized
- 39:38Speaker 1: for distributing to the ice cream, and I believe at
- 39:40Speaker 1: this time they're removing the ice cream from the shelf.
- 39:43Speaker 1: But this interview is about the impact of positivity that
- 39:47Speaker 1: their fans have found you, how they've supported you so
- 39:50Speaker 1: talk about that whole Walmart experience, you know, from the
- 39:53Speaker 1: social media, from the fans, and how they have rallied
- 39:57Speaker 1: behind you on your social media. And it's almost like
- 40:01Speaker 1: if if if social media was a phone, your phone
- 40:03Speaker 1: will be ringing off the hook. It has been ringing
- 40:07Speaker 1: off the hook. Actually there has and um so many
- 40:13Speaker 1: news outlets from across the country that want me to
- 40:16Speaker 1: speak on this, and I pretty much had decided, uh,
- 40:20Speaker 1: how I was going to deliver my message and decided
- 40:23Speaker 1: when I was going to answer to it and what
- 40:26Speaker 1: climate I was gonna be in. And of course I
- 40:28Speaker 1: trust you, you know, with my life, because you're fair
- 40:31Speaker 1: and you're very very much right here. Um you're not
- 40:37Speaker 1: You're not biased, And it's it's it's it's kind of
- 40:39Speaker 1: like you don't go in and and make assumptions about things,
- 40:43Speaker 1: and you think about things and and and I'm in
- 40:45Speaker 1: a safe environment where I can deliver my story. And
- 40:48Speaker 1: so I felt really good about how I'm delivering my
- 40:52Speaker 1: story and the climate that I'm delivering it in today.
- 40:55Speaker 1: So that's why I decided to do this one and
- 40:58Speaker 1: only exclusive interview with you. Uh. It was very hard
- 41:03Speaker 1: because it was very scary because I wasn't really sure
- 41:06Speaker 1: how this was going to affect my brand. Um, I
- 41:09Speaker 1: didn't know. You know, it could have went either way.
- 41:12Speaker 1: And and even today, you don't know if you know
- 41:15Speaker 1: you're gonna upset someone, or if someone's gonna you know,
- 41:20Speaker 1: if there's gonna be backlash, or you just don't know.
- 41:22Speaker 1: But all I know is today I just have to
- 41:24Speaker 1: be my authentic self, um and a businesswoman and understand
- 41:29Speaker 1: exactly what I'm dealing with right now. And it was
- 41:33Speaker 1: a very unfortunate situation. But I think the blessing of
- 41:36Speaker 1: it was all of the people out in the world
- 41:40Speaker 1: that really supported me. I mean like literally some of
- 41:44Speaker 1: the posts really made me cry. I got thousands of messages, emails,
- 41:50Speaker 1: letters in boxes, uh, posts, just people just reaching out,
- 41:56Speaker 1: just really wanting to be supportive of this brand. It
- 41:59Speaker 1: was just like, you know, cheers to the underdog, because
- 42:02Speaker 1: I am the underdog, right and I'm I'm cool with
- 42:04Speaker 1: that because it's what I know. It's all I know
- 42:07Speaker 1: how to do is come back from it and basically
- 42:11Speaker 1: stayd my ground. But when you're yourself and when you're
- 42:14Speaker 1: authentic and you stand by your brand and your name,
- 42:17Speaker 1: that's all that really matters, and I wanted people to
- 42:19Speaker 1: really understand that I never went through a diversity department
- 42:25Speaker 1: in any of the retailers that I got involved with
- 42:29Speaker 1: where crem Alicious is being sold. I didn't. I did
- 42:33Speaker 1: that for a reason because I wanted to be in
- 42:35Speaker 1: the stores for my own merits, my hard work, the
- 42:39Speaker 1: quality of my product. I didn't want a handout. I
- 42:43Speaker 1: didn't want people to feel like, you know, they had
- 42:45Speaker 1: to meet a quota or you know, we're just going
- 42:47Speaker 1: to give you a shot because you're black, and we
- 42:49Speaker 1: have to have an African American or minority or black
- 42:52Speaker 1: woman in the in the stores. I wanted them to
- 42:54Speaker 1: understand that my brand is just as good as anyone else's.
- 42:58Speaker 1: I'm just not as big. I may not have all
- 43:01Speaker 1: the resources, I may not have all the capital that
- 43:05Speaker 1: other brands have to really really grow this brand. But
- 43:09Speaker 1: every day I invest in myself by working hard and
- 43:12Speaker 1: investing in my brand and making sure that my brand
- 43:15Speaker 1: has what it needs to compete and be successful. And
- 43:18Speaker 1: I just really compete with myself. So I feel like
- 43:22Speaker 1: everybody that reached out, everybody that was on those posts,
- 43:26Speaker 1: and the shares and the likes, and and just how
- 43:29Speaker 1: they stood up. You know, it just meant everything to
- 43:32Speaker 1: me and it really gave me everything to keep going.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I'm talking to the executive chef, founder owner of Premolitious,
- 43:40Speaker 1: of Liz Rogers. Liz. Um, there are a lot of
- 43:43Speaker 1: room which I want to clear up right now. You know,
- 43:45Speaker 1: first of all, first rumor affairs that the June Teeth
- 43:48Speaker 1: ice cream was a collaboration between wal Mart and Premolitious.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Can you answer that? That's definitely a fosse rumor. Um,
- 43:57Speaker 1: I never knew that Walmart was doing a June Team
- 44:00Speaker 1: ice cream. I've never given them any recipes. Uh. Our
- 44:05Speaker 1: recipes are are red velvet ice creams are totally different.
- 44:09Speaker 1: I have chocolate chunks in my red velvet ice cream. Um.
- 44:12Speaker 1: My recipes are formulated in proprietary with food scientists that
- 44:17Speaker 1: I personally worked with two crem Alicious. So I had
- 44:21Speaker 1: no idea what Walmart did or what they were doing.
- 44:24Speaker 1: I'm not involved in anything that they do as it
- 44:27Speaker 1: relates to the Great Value brand. So, um, this was
- 44:31Speaker 1: not a joint venture deal. Um, this was nothing to
- 44:34Speaker 1: do with me. So their decisions are just that and
- 44:38Speaker 1: it has nothing to do with Cremolicious. I'm speaking of
- 44:40Speaker 1: executive chef Liz Rodgers or Cremolicious. Another rumors that you're
- 44:46Speaker 1: going to take your ice cream. You're so mad, You're
- 44:48Speaker 1: so mad that you're going to take your ice cream
- 44:50Speaker 1: off the shelves of Walmart. That's very fast, um, to
- 44:56Speaker 1: be perfectly honest, I've had a very good relationship with
- 44:59Speaker 1: Walmart for about a year and a half now. The
- 45:02Speaker 1: category manager has always been extremely attentive to me. He's
- 45:06Speaker 1: always watched out for me and really has been there,
- 45:10Speaker 1: you know, personally. He's always done an amazing job as
- 45:13Speaker 1: it relates to prem Militious and the growth of Creme Alicious.
- 45:16Speaker 1: And he's expanded my brand three times. So that's not true.
- 45:20Speaker 1: And I'm a businesswoman, you know, I can't just go
- 45:22Speaker 1: around taking stuff off the shelf. Um. Whether I agree
- 45:26Speaker 1: with things or not, you know, but it has nothing
- 45:28Speaker 1: to do with it. We'll be right back with more
- 45:30Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Now, let's return
- 45:38Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Now, when
- 45:43Speaker 1: you talk about the fans support that that that's what
- 45:47Speaker 1: really put a smile on your face, Like you talked
- 45:50Speaker 1: about while while the juneteenth ice cream was on the show.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Fans were out there saying, hey, you got Creeme Milicious
- 45:56Speaker 1: on there. You should be supporting now when you should?
- 45:58Speaker 1: That's the ice cream that that ice cream was fantastic.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Now that's the part as a brand, as an entrepreneur,
- 46:04Speaker 1: that's all you want. All you want is for your
- 46:06Speaker 1: customer to come to your rescue. And sometimes coming to
- 46:09Speaker 1: the rescue is by buying your product. In this case,
- 46:12Speaker 1: they will not only buying your product, but they will
- 46:14Speaker 1: promoting your product. And that's why you're getting these calls
- 46:18Speaker 1: over the country and Executive chef List. This has to
- 46:21Speaker 1: be in some ways a turning point for your brand
- 46:25Speaker 1: because now it's putting it in a different lane of popularity.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Correct it is, and and the ice cream is selling
- 46:32Speaker 1: out all across the country and I'm trying to keep
- 46:34Speaker 1: up with the demand. And now I have to find
- 46:36Speaker 1: more investors. I guess find more. Um, I just have
- 46:40Speaker 1: to keep it moving. And the fans support was just
- 46:42Speaker 1: absolutely amazing. But I want people to understand that, you know,
- 46:46Speaker 1: we're going to continue to need support. We're going to
- 46:48Speaker 1: continue to need support to grow and to bring more
- 46:51Speaker 1: flavors and to bring uh, more to the to the
- 46:54Speaker 1: category and to really make this a huge movement. You know,
- 46:58Speaker 1: this is a really really big deal. Was see only
- 47:01Speaker 1: African American ice cream and mass production in the world.
- 47:04Speaker 1: That's really huge. I don't think people understand what this
- 47:08Speaker 1: can mean. You know that this could possibly bring about
- 47:12Speaker 1: more entrepreneurs that want to get in the source, not
- 47:14Speaker 1: just in the ice cream category, but period. You know,
- 47:17Speaker 1: there's so many I'm looking at Instagram and there's so
- 47:20Speaker 1: many amazing pastry lines and coffees and creamy There's so
- 47:25Speaker 1: much that we can do and we can contribute to
- 47:29Speaker 1: at this very moment. And we have to keep doing
- 47:31Speaker 1: it even if you're not buying a point, tell somebody
- 47:34Speaker 1: about it, dedicate support, keep supporting it. Shouldn't have an
- 47:40Speaker 1: expiration day. We have to keep keep this going absolutely. Now,
- 47:45Speaker 1: you said something that was important here now because sometimes
- 47:49Speaker 1: sudden popularity can cause a shift in the money that
- 47:53Speaker 1: you have for the ice cream that you're trying to
- 47:55Speaker 1: put on the shelf. Are you looking for investors or
- 47:58Speaker 1: investors should conta act you or we're not talking about everybody.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Because you are a person trying to expand your brand.
- 48:04Speaker 1: You know, when you go from two thousand stores to
- 48:06Speaker 1: four thousand stores or four thousand stores and six thousand
- 48:09Speaker 1: stores and ten thousand stores across the country that is
- 48:12Speaker 1: tied in for additional revenue to be able to make
- 48:15Speaker 1: the ice cream. Tell everybody how that really works and
- 48:18Speaker 1: how you feel about where you're going over the next
- 48:20Speaker 1: couple of years with crep Relicious. I'm definitely looking for
- 48:25Speaker 1: more investors, but I'm looking for the right investors. You know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: I'm very all money. It's not good money, and I'm
- 48:30Speaker 1: I'm really not in a situation where i can make
- 48:34Speaker 1: any mistakes, you know right now, Um, I have to
- 48:37Speaker 1: be extremely strategic. I have to think about the people
- 48:41Speaker 1: that I'm allowing to be in my circle. I have
- 48:43Speaker 1: to understand, Uh, the investors that I currently have now,
- 48:48Speaker 1: they're not multimillionaires, but they're well to do. They have families,
- 48:53Speaker 1: and that's I really love that, you know, because criminal
- 48:57Speaker 1: Sious it's a generational brand. It is a brand that's
- 49:02Speaker 1: going to be around, like Coke or Pepsi. It's it's
- 49:05Speaker 1: Disney stock, you know. I remember reading a story where
- 49:10Speaker 1: um Walt Disney was trying to do partnerships or get
- 49:13Speaker 1: loans from banks and everybody's turning them down. I've been
- 49:16Speaker 1: in that situation. I've been turned down so much and
- 49:20Speaker 1: just strong along and all the things that go with
- 49:23Speaker 1: with raising money, which is extremely discouraging. And then you
- 49:26Speaker 1: meet these people that are just regular people, hardworking people
- 49:31Speaker 1: just like you, that believe in you, and it grows
- 49:34Speaker 1: from there. And I'm a I'm a working owner. So
- 49:37Speaker 1: as a CEO, I'm very hands on, I'm I'm very creative.
- 49:40Speaker 1: I do a lot of product development for national companies
- 49:44Speaker 1: that I'm I'm working with now, creating points and I'm
- 49:48Speaker 1: very good at um product development. So that's really a
- 49:52Speaker 1: huge wheelhouse of mine and it has a lot to
- 49:55Speaker 1: do with being an executive chef. But at the same time, UM,
- 50:00Speaker 1: just going back to this experience that I've experienced the
- 50:04Speaker 1: past week. UM, yes, I'm an executive chef, but I
- 50:07Speaker 1: don't cook with politics, and so that's something that I
- 50:10Speaker 1: don't want to have my brand involved in in any way, shape, shape, form,
- 50:14Speaker 1: or fashion. So that's a really big thing for me
- 50:17Speaker 1: as well. So just finding the right people and making
- 50:21Speaker 1: sure that I am affiliated with the right persons or
- 50:25Speaker 1: person for my brand is very key. Now as I
- 50:30Speaker 1: watched on other TVs. On Martha Stewart do this, Um,
- 50:33Speaker 1: I guess a flea market at a house US on TV.
- 50:36Speaker 1: I see, uh, you know, you know Rachel Race US
- 50:41Speaker 1: cooking show kind of like talk show. You know, is
- 50:45Speaker 1: that something in your future? You're very articularly if you
- 50:48Speaker 1: know you you're successful entrepreneur. Are you gonna stay in
- 50:52Speaker 1: the kitchen or are you looking a seeking opportunities to
- 50:56Speaker 1: be in front of the camera as a motivator, as
- 50:58Speaker 1: an actress, as a t the host talk to us.
- 51:02Speaker 1: I definitely would hope to God that Tyler Perry caused
- 51:05Speaker 1: me to be in a movie. I definitely want my
- 51:08Speaker 1: own show, I am. I would love to have a
- 51:17Speaker 1: story done all my life because my my journey, my
- 51:21Speaker 1: life is very profound. UM. When I spoke earlier about
- 51:24Speaker 1: the underdog, UM losing everything, UM, watching all of your
- 51:29Speaker 1: dreams just be shattered and two a million pieces, and
- 51:32Speaker 1: you're watching, you know, all these pieces shattered, kind of
- 51:36Speaker 1: like a puzzle, and here you are, You're trying to
- 51:39Speaker 1: figure out how do you put yourself back together? And
- 51:42Speaker 1: it just starts with one piece at a time, and
- 51:44Speaker 1: then you're taking these pieces trying to make them fit
- 51:47Speaker 1: and they don't fit into these pieces, and you try
- 51:49Speaker 1: another piece and you just keep going until you can
- 51:53Speaker 1: finally understand what's your purpose is and what you're doing. Um,
- 51:58Speaker 1: my story is is definitely a story of inspiration because
- 52:03Speaker 1: you know, you gotta keep it moving. You know, even
- 52:05Speaker 1: if even if you fall, you've got to get back up.
- 52:08Speaker 1: And it's it's it's a big it's a big deal.
- 52:11Speaker 1: So I'm hoping to be able to get a show
- 52:12Speaker 1: and um, be able to read them, meet the right people,
- 52:16Speaker 1: and definitely get the one that understands that I do
- 52:20Speaker 1: have talent and I do have a lot to give
- 52:22Speaker 1: back as well. Well, I would say this, I'm looking
- 52:27Speaker 1: at the person who's shining a shining star. I say
- 52:31Speaker 1: that because of the fact that not only you're saying
- 52:33Speaker 1: all the right things, but you're delivering them with a
- 52:35Speaker 1: lot of honesty. And when you when when something like
- 52:38Speaker 1: this happens because you have no control of it and
- 52:41Speaker 1: you had to respond and you had to be frustrated,
- 52:43Speaker 1: I'm sure, and now you're the point in your life
- 52:47Speaker 1: where you're flipping the scripts. You're turning into something that
- 52:50Speaker 1: some people may deem as a negative. Some people might
- 52:52Speaker 1: wilt you're showing strength. Where is that strength coming from?
- 52:56Speaker 1: And how can you encourage other people who face adversity?
- 52:59Speaker 1: Two would come to odds. My strong comes from my mom.
- 53:04Speaker 1: You know. I watched my mother. She was a welder,
- 53:07Speaker 1: and I lost my mom several months ago unexpected cancer diagnosis,
- 53:12Speaker 1: and it's been extremely hard. But she was very strong.
- 53:16Speaker 1: She raised all four of us by herself. She worked
- 53:20Speaker 1: as a welder. Like I said, she was the only
- 53:22Speaker 1: woman that worked at her her job, and I just
- 53:27Speaker 1: remember her just coming home so tired, and we just
- 53:31Speaker 1: we just never wanted for anything. We didn't have a lot.
- 53:33Speaker 1: But she was very strong and it was like nothing
- 53:36Speaker 1: ever bothered her, you know. And then it wasn't until
- 53:40Speaker 1: you know, she got sick. I understood, you know, even
- 53:43Speaker 1: though she was very hard on me. You know, it's like,
- 53:46Speaker 1: you know, I ran track, I played in the Junior
- 53:48Speaker 1: Cleveland Orchestra for four years. I write music. I I
- 53:51Speaker 1: do a lot. I've done a lot um. I didn't
- 53:55Speaker 1: realize how much of an artist I was until I
- 53:58Speaker 1: really got into the coon arts. And with my mom,
- 54:02Speaker 1: she's always wanted to own a restaurant. She was an
- 54:04Speaker 1: amazing cook and because she was a single parent she
- 54:08Speaker 1: got she never got an opportunity to do that. So
- 54:10Speaker 1: I really feel like maybe I opened my restaurants and
- 54:14Speaker 1: went on the path that I went on UM because
- 54:17Speaker 1: of her, you know, UM, so that she can live
- 54:19Speaker 1: her dream through me. And so this is where we
- 54:23Speaker 1: are today. And I just never saw UM anyone disrespect
- 54:27Speaker 1: my mother. UM. She always fought for what she believed
- 54:30Speaker 1: in and that was extremely important to me and I
- 54:33Speaker 1: appreciate that to to this day. I didn't realize how
- 54:37Speaker 1: much I would need her strength until some of the
- 54:39Speaker 1: things started happening, like with the adversity and a lot
- 54:43Speaker 1: of things that's going on today in the world that
- 54:46Speaker 1: you don't think that you would have to deal with.
- 54:48Speaker 1: But here, here you are. So how do you handle it? Well?
- 54:52Speaker 1: My friend and my listeners and my viewers, I guess
- 54:56Speaker 1: I'm talking to executive chef Liz Rogers. She's own and
- 54:59Speaker 1: found of Criminalists. Is June tenth is coming up, and
- 55:02Speaker 1: her ice cream is available, is available at Waltbart. It's
- 55:04Speaker 1: available to talk. It's a very it's available to myers,
- 55:07Speaker 1: a very jungle gym. More importantly, it's created by an
- 55:10Speaker 1: incredible artist that I was fortunate to have on my
- 55:14Speaker 1: show to talk about tell our story. The story is
- 55:16Speaker 1: not tied to negativity, is tied to positivity, is tied
