- 2:27Speaker 1: can main a positive can maintain a positive reputation in cyberspace.
- 2:31Speaker 1: She's on the show to discuss her new book, Don't
- 2:34Speaker 1: Let Your Digital Footprint Kick You in the butt, A
- 2:37Speaker 1: lesson what not to do on the Internet to build
- 2:39Speaker 1: your personal brand. Please welcome back back back to the
- 2:43Speaker 1: moneymaking conversations, Stephanie, Steph Tech Humphrey. Hey, how's it going girl.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Let's listen. Listen. Don't let you let me do Don't
- 2:56Speaker 1: let your digital footprint kick you in the bot Don't
- 3:00Speaker 1: a lesson in what not to do on the Internet
- 3:03Speaker 1: to build your personal brand. Okay, before we even start
- 3:06Speaker 1: talking about the book, let's go to the book to
- 3:09Speaker 1: change your board. This is R Sean McDonald recognized talent
- 3:13Speaker 1: marketing Brandon Guru. People call CEOs, called me talent, called
- 3:18Speaker 1: me build careers, marketing campaigns. Every book that comes to me, Steph,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I read it. I read the out of respect because
- 3:26Speaker 1: I don't want to get on the phone with an
- 3:28Speaker 1: individual and kind of like ad lib through an interview
- 3:31Speaker 1: and and act like I read it. Okay, I get
- 3:34Speaker 1: to the LinkedIn portion of the book, okay, and change
- 3:41Speaker 1: my digital footprint. Right there, I realized, no, no, no,
- 3:48Speaker 1: no no no. I wish I said it was a tweak.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It was not a tweak. I wish, I wish, I
- 3:55Speaker 1: wish I would do a screenshot because I changed it up.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It's beautiful now. It's beautiful now because she gives example.
- 4:01Speaker 1: She gives example of what something should look like in
- 4:03Speaker 1: your book. She says, if if you if you're Emmy
- 4:06Speaker 1: Award winner, guess what, I'm an Emmy Award winner. That's
- 4:09Speaker 1: what really caught me. Right there, you said, if you
- 4:11Speaker 1: Emmy Award winner, then you should start with okay, okay.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I went back. I immediately went to Lincoln, to the count.
- 4:25Speaker 1: All I had that was marking in and Brandon expert.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That's all I said. I went, Oh my god, oh
- 4:35Speaker 1: my god. Right there, I went, okay, now, okay, cool,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I got to slow down the reading in this chapter.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I went down there, I put in there. If you
- 4:43Speaker 1: go there, now, go to RuSHA McDonald Lincoln. You'll see
- 4:46Speaker 1: a guy. And this is all because of Steph Chat
- 4:49Speaker 1: In her book, now you'll see two time Emmy Award winning,
- 4:55Speaker 1: three time in double A CP Image Award winning. That's
- 4:58Speaker 1: in there. There you go. Talent manager is in there.
- 5:04Speaker 1: There you go. Okay, Television producers in there, Live producer
- 5:09Speaker 1: isn't there. And then I took a recommendation. I put
- 5:13Speaker 1: public speaker boom because people are searching on that, you know.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And it's funny because I used I didn't have public
- 5:23Speaker 1: speaker in my headline for a long time either. Um,
- 5:26Speaker 1: but once I put it in there, I started getting
- 5:30Speaker 1: inquiries about speaking because that the headline is searchable people.
- 5:35Speaker 1: There's there are specific keywords that people search on when
- 5:38Speaker 1: they're looking for people to try to you know, filter
- 5:41Speaker 1: out folks and and get directly to what they're looking for.
- 5:45Speaker 1: And if it's not in the headline, then you're missing
- 5:48Speaker 1: out and getting weeded out of that search process. Okay,
- 5:52Speaker 1: but it didn't stop there though. My friend I had
- 5:56Speaker 1: to go to the about sex, and that's where you went.
- 5:59Speaker 1: If you talking in the third party, then you need
- 6:04Speaker 1: to change that immediately, talk conversational, I win. I immediately
- 6:11Speaker 1: went back over there. I went Rashawn him. He that's
- 6:17Speaker 1: how I was talking, and I changed everything and said
- 6:19Speaker 1: I would do this. I me, I'm just telling you
- 6:25Speaker 1: your advice. I have an eight o'clock called my staff
- 6:30Speaker 1: every day and I could through zoom and I since
- 6:33Speaker 1: the pandemic hit, and so I told him the team,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I'm Interference deph Tech. Today. She changed my whole with
- 6:42Speaker 1: your whole, with your whole game up, I mean step
- 6:45Speaker 1: to well up up. Because people always could go into
- 6:50Speaker 1: my profile on LinkedIn. They always people my proof trial starch,
- 6:53Speaker 1: just always and the fact that I only had marketing
- 6:57Speaker 1: and branding experts. I was tripping hall. I was tripping
- 7:02Speaker 1: hall where I was missing two times Emmy Award winning
- 7:06Speaker 1: and three times n Double ac Image Award winning television
- 7:09Speaker 1: producer up there. Talent manager was not even up there,
- 7:14Speaker 1: live produced, live event producer was not up there, and
- 7:18Speaker 1: public speaking was not up there. That right there. I
- 7:22Speaker 1: was just so ashamed. I was so ashamed. I was
- 7:23Speaker 1: so ashamed. I was so ashamed. So I'm just letting
- 7:26Speaker 1: everybody know, we're just starting this call off, this interview off,
- 7:29Speaker 1: letting everybody know why she's on the show, because she's
- 7:33Speaker 1: that good and she's giving out advice that's amazing, and
- 7:38Speaker 1: also advice that can immediately change your footprint. That's what
- 7:42Speaker 1: you show us about your footprint and reading this book,
- 7:45Speaker 1: cause you know I read the book. So she's we
- 7:47Speaker 1: didn't even talk about she's not even cautioned that. Now
- 7:49Speaker 1: she know I've read this book, and so let's talk
- 7:52Speaker 1: about why did you write the book? And we're gonna
- 7:55Speaker 1: just go break down different little scenarios which were really
- 7:57Speaker 1: influential to me, and I was so just reinstated a
- 8:01Speaker 1: lot of things I tell people on every day that
- 8:03Speaker 1: you know, if you're a social media you are a brand,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you are a business, you're a company, and you need
- 8:08Speaker 1: to start acting like that. Okay, that's right. If you
- 8:11Speaker 1: sell cakes for a living and your social media doesn't
- 8:14Speaker 1: reflect that you sell cakes, then what are you doing right?
- 8:18Speaker 1: Absolutely tell us about step Well, it's I I appreciate thanks.
- 8:22Speaker 1: First of all, thank you for having me on again.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It's always good to be here, and and thank you
- 8:26Speaker 1: for saying that the book when I was writing it
- 8:30Speaker 1: is primarily targeted at middle, high school and early college students,
- 8:36Speaker 1: but it just warms my heart and blesses me so
- 8:39Speaker 1: much to know that a professional was also able to
- 8:43Speaker 1: get so much usefulness out of it because that lets
- 8:46Speaker 1: me know that it's reaching everybody, you know what I mean.
- 8:49Speaker 1: But it you know, I wrote it because, um, when
- 8:53Speaker 1: I go into schools, and because I speak to what
- 8:56Speaker 1: till that you tweet, I speak to students, parents and professionals.
- 8:59Speaker 1: But when going to schools especially, I was I was
- 9:02Speaker 1: getting literally any time I went into a school, principle
- 9:05Speaker 1: or a teacher or another administrator would say, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: do you have something else that you know we can
- 9:11Speaker 1: we can have that that we can buy, that we
- 9:14Speaker 1: can take back and and keep this conversation going. Because
- 9:17Speaker 1: the presentation was so good and the students were so
- 9:20Speaker 1: engaged in that conversation, we want to keep it going,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and we want to give our teachers something, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 1: to to continue to learning, and and that whole thing
- 9:29Speaker 1: literally every single time, and I had to tell them no,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you know, and and I realized that I was, I
- 9:34Speaker 1: was leaving a huge opportunity on the table. So um,
- 9:38Speaker 1: that was the primary motivation for writing a book, is
- 9:41Speaker 1: to make sure that you know, the kids had something
- 9:44Speaker 1: in their hand that they could refer to, that they
- 9:47Speaker 1: could go in and start thinking about what their brand
- 9:49Speaker 1: should look like because young people have it too, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: and that they could keep this book and and and
- 9:54Speaker 1: and and plan out their own brand strategy and content
- 9:58Speaker 1: strategy for how they wanted to live their life online. Okay,
- 10:01Speaker 1: let's talk about this. Let's get serious. Now we're talking
- 10:04Speaker 1: to the branding expert here. The phrase that's gonna keep
- 10:09Speaker 1: popping out over and over in this book is think
- 10:13Speaker 1: before you post, before you post, before you post. Class example,
- 10:21Speaker 1: why receive for the Philadelphia ego? Oh good lord, yeah, yes, yes,
- 10:28Speaker 1: and he should know better. I'm sorry I'm putting that
- 10:30Speaker 1: out there. He should do better. Definitely should know better.
- 10:32Speaker 1: But then another play, another person, Stephen Jackson, decided he
- 10:37Speaker 1: follow up with a post. So because they did not
- 10:40Speaker 1: think before they on social media, now they are apologizing
- 10:46Speaker 1: and guess what, that stays in their brand forever. They
- 10:49Speaker 1: can't do That's right, it's in it's an engine search.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about all that stuff, but I just
- 10:56Speaker 1: wanted to bring up a quick example that's really made
- 11:00Speaker 1: headlines of not thinking before you post, because you talk
- 11:03Speaker 1: about that all the time, talked all the time. Well,
- 11:07Speaker 1: it's funny. I'll use another celebrity example, you know, Joy
- 11:10Speaker 1: Read just got her own UM evening talk show on MSNBC.
- 11:16Speaker 1: She's the first first African American woman to have a
- 11:19Speaker 1: nightly news program. Congratulations, and it's it's an awesome opportunity
- 11:24Speaker 1: for her and and and for for the people, for
- 11:26Speaker 1: the community. However, in one of the articles I was
- 11:29Speaker 1: reading about um disannouncement, they still refer but she got
- 11:35Speaker 1: in trouble. She she got a lot of trouble about
- 11:37Speaker 1: three or four years ago for right, and she got
- 11:43Speaker 1: in trouble for some stuff she had posted on her
- 11:45Speaker 1: blog from years before that. So it was I actually
- 11:49Speaker 1: used her example, I don't I I had it in
- 11:52Speaker 1: a version of the book. I'm not sure if it
- 11:54Speaker 1: made it into this version. Yes, yes, I use that
- 11:57Speaker 1: example because you know, the inter that is searchable and
- 12:00Speaker 1: recoverable always. And even though that blog where she wrote
- 12:04Speaker 1: that objectionable content had been you know, deleted off the web,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you know, in her mind, UM, they still were able
- 12:11Speaker 1: to find it, and they still referenced that in this
- 12:14Speaker 1: new article where they talked about her new role. So
- 12:17Speaker 1: that thing, even though it seems like she was able
- 12:20Speaker 1: to sort of apologize her way out of it, but
- 12:22Speaker 1: she didn't. That was the problem though, because you saved
- 12:24Speaker 1: me a book. In your book, you said she did
- 12:26Speaker 1: not apologize, she lied and try to act and play
- 12:30Speaker 1: dumbinant first at first. And that's the real problem with her.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Whole situation is that you in news, okay, your news.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Now you're supposed to be a face of honesty delivering
- 12:43Speaker 1: the facts, and then when you was hit in the
- 12:46Speaker 1: face with it, you backside. The same thing with I
- 12:51Speaker 1: think Brian Williams that's why he lost this slot on
- 12:56Speaker 1: on NBC and now he's on MSNBC because of the
- 13:00Speaker 1: fact that it was some history that came back when
- 13:02Speaker 1: you say, think what you think before you post. I'm
- 13:07Speaker 1: just telling everybody, this is a fantastic book, just not
- 13:10Speaker 1: like a book that. First of all, it's a good,
- 13:12Speaker 1: solid read. It's seventy one pages, so you can, like,
- 13:16Speaker 1: you know, if you just you can read it real
- 13:18Speaker 1: quick because it's you're gonna read it. You're not gonna
- 13:20Speaker 1: put it down because everything you're gonna go oh no, wow,
- 13:24Speaker 1: or it's gonna refresh you on your on the way
- 13:26Speaker 1: you're doing business, or you're going to educate on how
- 13:29Speaker 1: you educate, you on how you should do business, and
- 13:31Speaker 1: she puts in some amazing examples, amazing examples that are current,
- 13:37Speaker 1: not dated, but current situations that are relatable, relatable, happening
- 13:43Speaker 1: right now. Like I said, that's that's why we was
- 13:46Speaker 1: able to pull up to Sean Jackson and Stephen Jackson.
- 13:48Speaker 1: That's the day. I never run out of material, you
- 13:51Speaker 1: know when I'm when I'm doing it. And you know,
- 13:53Speaker 1: for the for the students that that are going to
- 13:55Speaker 1: get this book, they're also going to get examples about
- 13:57Speaker 1: site babullying. They're gonna get sexty exact amples. They're gonna get,
- 14:01Speaker 1: you know, all those different things. And I never run
- 14:04Speaker 1: out of material. I update my examples because I show
- 14:06Speaker 1: in my in my co presentation. When I go into schools,
- 14:09Speaker 1: I show them video clips, news video clips of these
- 14:12Speaker 1: things because I'm like, I can show you better than
- 14:13Speaker 1: I can tell you. You don't have to take my
- 14:15Speaker 1: word forward. This stuff is happening. And I literally can
- 14:18Speaker 1: get all new clips every year that I that I
- 14:22Speaker 1: do this presentation because people still continue to to make
- 14:26Speaker 1: these choices and these decisions about the things that they
- 14:30Speaker 1: post without without giving it a second thought. And and
- 14:33Speaker 1: that's all I'm trying to do is to get you
- 14:34Speaker 1: to take that one second before you hit submit, before
- 14:38Speaker 1: you hit posed. Now did something that you feel like
- 14:41Speaker 1: you believe in and you just want to stand on
- 14:43Speaker 1: this and this is your truth by all me. You know,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, don't let me stop you for that's your truth. Now,
- 14:52Speaker 1: that's your truth. You know you're gonna drink yourself in
- 14:55Speaker 1: the Confederate flag. That's that's all truth. That's your true
- 15:00Speaker 1: bub bub. Be prepared to defend it and be prepared
- 15:04Speaker 1: for the consequences that come from it. That's all. It's
- 15:08Speaker 1: finally here, the season of celebration, and no matter how
- 15:11Speaker 1: you celebrate with family and friends, whether you're preparing for

- 17:03Speaker 1: e r. Dot Ai absolutely one of the things that
- 17:07Speaker 1: I really loved about the whole section when it came
- 17:10Speaker 1: to LinkedIn, because I looked at every day I looked
- 17:12Speaker 1: at you know, my name, how it was on the
- 17:14Speaker 1: link you I did, I did, I'm telling something, I'm
- 17:19Speaker 1: telling you walk me. I. I double check upgraded everything
- 17:26Speaker 1: on my LinkedIn account this morning. I swear to you.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I was up at four o'clock this morning because I
- 17:31Speaker 1: always read my books before I read them before the interview,
- 17:34Speaker 1: that where everything stays fresh in my mind. And so
- 17:37Speaker 1: I spent an hour updating. And because LinkedIn to me
- 17:41Speaker 1: are the modern day websites, That's how I always looking
- 17:43Speaker 1: at the the modern day website because of the fact
- 17:45Speaker 1: that it can put your career on there. You can
- 17:47Speaker 1: put photos on, your upload videos, you articles, and so
- 17:52Speaker 1: that's why it's so important to really have an accurate
- 17:56Speaker 1: LinkedIn account. And so I want to thank you before
- 17:59Speaker 1: we go a break, Just thank you personally for having
- 18:02Speaker 1: that chapter. I know this was a book I was
- 18:03Speaker 1: supposed to be reading just to discuss and I wasn't
- 18:06Speaker 1: supposed to be coming every talking about you and change
- 18:07Speaker 1: my whold LinkedIn account And thank you Jesus, you're you
- 18:11Speaker 1: saved my brand? Do you did? Because I'm I'm thinking
- 18:15Speaker 1: something definitely to go from marketing and branded expert. That's
- 18:19Speaker 1: all I had. That's all I had out that wrong
- 18:24Speaker 1: and then and then, but the beauty of it, I'm
- 18:26Speaker 1: just tell you before we go to break, she has
- 18:28Speaker 1: an example of how it should look. She shows you
- 18:30Speaker 1: how her LinkedIn account looks. I'm on the phone with
- 18:33Speaker 1: Steph Tech. I'm gonna calling. It's definitely Humphrey, She's HPC.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Let's talk about that a little bit. Uh. HBCU grad family.
- 18:42Speaker 1: You always like to bring up when when people who
- 18:44Speaker 1: are HBCU grads, you and engineer. I'm actually gonna feat you.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I'm starting this big HBCU Awards platform and I'm gonna
- 18:52Speaker 1: feat you you as one of my people on that
- 18:54Speaker 1: platform because I go into the education of hbc US
- 18:58Speaker 1: and you know then in there in the stand program
- 19:01Speaker 1: medical uh it because you know, people kind of see
- 19:04Speaker 1: HBCUs strictly as watching bands and football, and that's not fair.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And so I developed a platform called HBC Awards where
- 19:13Speaker 1: I look at the educational into growth of what HBCUs.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I always tell people, if it was not for HBCUs,
- 19:19Speaker 1: then I would not have I would not be where
- 19:22Speaker 1: I'm at today because they were built because they weren't
- 19:25Speaker 1: letting us in college. That's right, have you made me?
- 19:29Speaker 1: And so I talked to us about family before we
- 19:30Speaker 1: get it back into the book. Oh my gosh. You
- 19:33Speaker 1: know also that's that's in the first chapter too, about
- 19:37Speaker 1: your brand protecting your Yes, yes, because the thing about
- 19:41Speaker 1: your brand is, you know, we you can. You can
- 19:45Speaker 1: shape it and and mold it and create what you
- 19:48Speaker 1: want people to see about you online. But that's not
- 19:51Speaker 1: the only place that gets represented. You know, it's represented
- 19:54Speaker 1: when you when you shake your hand in person and
- 19:56Speaker 1: look somebody in the eye. It's represented when you send
- 19:59Speaker 1: that email, uh, that cold emails that person you want
- 20:02Speaker 1: to ask to be your Mentor's represented, you know, by
- 20:05Speaker 1: what somebody is saying about you when you're not in
- 20:08Speaker 1: the room. You know, all of those opinions that people
- 20:11Speaker 1: have about you go into your brand as well, but
- 20:13Speaker 1: you know, since I'm in tech and you know, engineer
- 20:16Speaker 1: and all that stuff, the digital footprint space is where
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know, I focused because that's where young people tend
- 20:23Speaker 1: to make the bulk of their mistakes, and you know,
- 20:26Speaker 1: and and things get a little bit dicey for them online.
- 20:29Speaker 1: So that's why we talk about the digital footprint. But
- 20:31Speaker 1: when you're talking about your brand, it's it's all of
- 20:34Speaker 1: those things. And you know, I wasn't representing my brand
- 20:37Speaker 1: super super well back in the day before I got
- 20:41Speaker 1: to fam you because I was recruited. I was recruited
- 20:44Speaker 1: very heavily by President Frederick S. Humphrey's no relation. He
- 20:48Speaker 1: hasn't mess at the end, I don't um but I
- 20:50Speaker 1: was recruited very heavily, and and blew him out, blew
- 20:53Speaker 1: him off completely. You know, he called my housewife when
- 20:56Speaker 1: I was a sening you're in high school, and I
- 20:57Speaker 1: didn't pick up. I didn't answer the own. I didn't
- 21:00Speaker 1: go to the information session. He was in town. I'm
- 21:03Speaker 1: originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and he was in town doing
- 21:06Speaker 1: an info session about FAMU. I didn't go. I didn't
- 21:09Speaker 1: bother with it. I said, I don't know nothing about no,
- 21:12Speaker 1: fam you who wants to go there. I want to
- 21:14Speaker 1: go to M I T or Georgia Tech or you know,
- 21:17Speaker 1: Stanford or somewhere like that. And and just really had
- 21:20Speaker 1: really didn't consider it at all. But but the grace
- 21:23Speaker 1: of God protects babies and fools. And you know, he
- 21:27Speaker 1: called me back a third time and he said, listen,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I want you to come to Florida A and M.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And at the time, he had an initiative where he
- 21:35Speaker 1: wanted to have more National Achievement scholars than any other university, yes,
- 21:41Speaker 1: any other university in the country. And he and he
- 21:44Speaker 1: did that during the time that president of Humphreys was
- 21:47Speaker 1: the president of FAMI. You uh, Florida and M had
- 21:49Speaker 1: more National Achievement scholars than any other school in the country.
- 21:52Speaker 1: And um and I was a National Achievement scholars So
- 21:55Speaker 1: that's why he had sort of targeted me to to recruit.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And you know, he's like, listen, I need you, I
- 22:01Speaker 1: need you down here. That that's all I can tell you.
- 22:03Speaker 1: And if you come, you won't have to pay a dime.
- 22:05Speaker 1: So I said, shoot, sign me up. And that's that's
- 22:08Speaker 1: what we don't we we had we just throwing up
- 22:10Speaker 1: money like that. I like me up. So UM got
- 22:13Speaker 1: a chance to go down and visit the university um
- 22:16Speaker 1: my spring break of my senior year in high school,
- 22:18Speaker 1: and just totally fell in love with the idea of
- 22:22Speaker 1: so many black people all together at the same space
- 22:29Speaker 1: with the same goal. I had never seen that before.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I mean my my high school. It wasn't predominantly black
- 22:36Speaker 1: or predominantly white. It was pretty mixed. Um. So, you know,
- 22:39Speaker 1: just that idea of being in a place where everybody
- 22:43Speaker 1: looked like you, and everybody and all of the professors
- 22:46Speaker 1: looked like you, and you know, and everybody was in
- 22:49Speaker 1: pursuit of you know, higher learning, higher education of better life.
- 22:54Speaker 1: That whole thing. It just it was life changing. It
- 22:56Speaker 1: was absolutely life changing. Wow, that's great. Let's let's go
- 22:59Speaker 1: to some of the things that you talked in the book.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Let's talk about what exactly is a digital footprint, because
- 23:05Speaker 1: you discussed that. So that is, yes, your digital footprint
- 23:09Speaker 1: is any and all of your electronically connected activity, email,
- 23:14Speaker 1: social media, emails, group chat, you know, emails, google, searches,
- 23:20Speaker 1: um anything that anything connected to the internet. Anything connected
- 23:24Speaker 1: to the Internet is your makes up your digital footprints.
- 23:28Speaker 1: So when you're talking about how that informs your personal brand.
- 23:31Speaker 1: You need to understand that all of that goes into it,
- 23:35Speaker 1: because all of that stuff is something that is searchable
- 23:38Speaker 1: and recoverable if you can find it and bring it
- 23:41Speaker 1: back up to show somebody. That's a part of your
- 23:43Speaker 1: digital footprint. Because because initially with the with the with
- 23:47Speaker 1: the family connection, you will not representing your brand correctly.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Use represents brand as a as a lazy person. You
- 23:55Speaker 1: represent your brand as a person who don't call back
- 23:58Speaker 1: a person who you know who to add a minimum,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I could have called the man back right right, So
- 24:03Speaker 1: that was that. That was a representative. That's one of
- 24:05Speaker 1: the things you talk about. That's why you tell your
- 24:07Speaker 1: story of the book is that it all starts with you,
- 24:10Speaker 1: your brain, It all starts with you. It all starts
- 24:12Speaker 1: with you. Absolutely, And he could have He would have
- 24:15Speaker 1: been well within his right to say, that's a little girl.
- 24:18Speaker 1: You know what I mean, forget her? You know what
- 24:20Speaker 1: I mean, I got, I got plenty of national there's
- 24:23Speaker 1: plenty of national team of scholars in the country. That
- 24:25Speaker 1: what you forgot, Steff, you forgot? You forgot. See you
- 24:27Speaker 1: are in football terms, you are five star recruit, saying
- 24:32Speaker 1: just let me just slowing this down. Staff. You know
- 24:34Speaker 1: you because you have changed with Shawn's life and LinkedIn,
- 24:37Speaker 1: So I gotta call your five star recruits. See, five
- 24:40Speaker 1: star recruits can kind of like be stupid a little bit,
- 24:44Speaker 1: and it still getting scholarships, you know, because because it
- 24:50Speaker 1: was a blessing. Because when I'm reading your book, it
- 24:53Speaker 1: is so many things that I was just like, first,
- 24:56Speaker 1: one of the things you say is writing skills, Okay,
- 24:59Speaker 1: and I I I it's free, but it also can
- 25:03Speaker 1: purchase it. It's called grammar Lely grammar. And so every
- 25:07Speaker 1: time I send an email, it pops up. Every time
- 25:11Speaker 1: I go on LinkedIn, it pops up. If I want
- 25:13Speaker 1: to check my spelling, check my words, check my commas,
- 25:17Speaker 1: check my parentheses, check everything, and the same thing, especially
- 25:20Speaker 1: when I'm writing an extended email, it pops up. And
- 25:24Speaker 1: so there are things out there that will that protect me,
- 25:28Speaker 1: that will help you. And like I said, it's free,
- 25:33Speaker 1: it's free, but you can upgrade it beyond free. But
- 25:36Speaker 1: I just know that when you say writing skills, that's
- 25:39Speaker 1: what I'm just saying. It's such a wonderful book, Staff,
- 25:41Speaker 1: and that you've written because of the fact that one
- 25:45Speaker 1: chapter totally rewrote my whole LinkedIn prop platform, and then
- 25:50Speaker 1: other great chapters reminded me the importance of what I'm doing.
- 25:55Speaker 1: State of course, State of course, Yes, yes, content is king,
- 26:00Speaker 1: but consistency it's queen, you know, and have just made
- 26:03Speaker 1: that up. I'm gonna use that again. It's true though,
- 26:09Speaker 1: continent is king, but consistent. People want to hear what
- 26:12Speaker 1: people want to hear what you have to say. But
- 26:14Speaker 1: you gotta keep saying and you and you can't be
- 26:17Speaker 1: wishy washy and flaky about how often you posed or
- 26:21Speaker 1: when you posed or and it doesn't have to be
- 26:23Speaker 1: every day. I think that's where people get, especially people
- 26:26Speaker 1: that are trying to grow their followers. I get questions
- 26:28Speaker 1: all the time, but how can I get my phone?
- 26:29Speaker 1: I got this business, you know, the cupcake shop or whatever.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And then I go and look at their feed and
- 26:35Speaker 1: you know, their last post was from two weeks ago,
- 26:38Speaker 1: and and that's just not but but but you, that's
- 26:42Speaker 1: a lot of work. That's a lot of work. But
- 26:44Speaker 1: I gotta it's a lot of work. But you have
- 26:47Speaker 1: to understand, number one, it doesn't have to be every day.
- 26:49Speaker 1: When I say consistent, I don't mean every day, all,
- 26:53Speaker 1: do we say something stuff? Can I say something? First
- 26:55Speaker 1: of all, let's say something about this. We're in an
- 26:57Speaker 1: era where used it used to be what you had
- 27:00Speaker 1: to get on the radio show, product commercial by print
- 27:03Speaker 1: ad and now they have a system out here that's free,
- 27:06Speaker 1: that's free. All it takes is effort, consistency and planning. Okay, now,
- 27:12Speaker 1: now that's that's the key in this conversation. Now effort. Now,
- 27:16Speaker 1: if it's effort and this will be something that you
- 27:18Speaker 1: want to do. Now, they're supposed to be your dreams,
- 27:20Speaker 1: supposed to be your gift. I'm supposed to be your passion.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Where the complaints coming from. So if if it's difficult
- 27:27Speaker 1: for you to post about your cupcakes, tell the story
- 27:30Speaker 1: about your chicken wings, you might want to get out
- 27:33Speaker 1: that business. Because if you don't have the passion to
- 27:36Speaker 1: excitedly tell people what excites supposed to excite you it
- 27:40Speaker 1: makes you your money, then that's a problem that you
- 27:42Speaker 1: need to really research and move on to the next
- 27:45Speaker 1: story because that storyline is not gonna last. And that's
- 27:47Speaker 1: what happens for people all the time. It is. But
- 27:51Speaker 1: it's tough because, especially if you are a small business
- 27:53Speaker 1: owner and you're you're doing everything yourself. You're the marketing team,
- 27:56Speaker 1: you're the distribution, you're the and you got to go
- 27:59Speaker 1: back and private kicker wings or bake the cupcakes too.
- 28:02Speaker 1: You know, that's just one more thing to do after
- 28:05Speaker 1: a long day. But you know, prioritizing it by maybe
- 28:09Speaker 1: taking you know, three hours on a Sunday and scheduling
- 28:13Speaker 1: some stuff to go out. There are tons of free
- 28:15Speaker 1: tools that you can use to do that, like Buffer
- 28:18Speaker 1: or hoop sweet um. But but but, and again, it
- 28:22Speaker 1: doesn't have to be every day. If people know that
- 28:24Speaker 1: you're gonna post some some some delicious you know, mouth
- 28:28Speaker 1: water and pictures of cupcakes on Monday, Monday and Friday,
- 28:31Speaker 1: they come to expect that. So they know that's when
- 28:33Speaker 1: they can that's when they'll see your content. So you know,
- 28:36Speaker 1: whatever that is, whatever that looks like for you and
- 28:38Speaker 1: what you're comfortable with, you know, make that happen. But
- 28:41Speaker 1: just be consistent. I'm talking to Stefinitie, Steph Tech, Comfrey Family,
- 28:46Speaker 1: grad UH Florida and m HPCs. You uh, don't let
- 28:51Speaker 1: your digital footprint kick you in the butt. A lesson
- 28:54Speaker 1: what not to do on the Internet to build your
- 28:56Speaker 1: personal brand where can you get these books or this book?
- 29:00Speaker 1: It will launch officially on August tent so you'll be
- 29:03Speaker 1: able to geting on Amazon there, but you can pre
- 29:05Speaker 1: order it right now on my website till that few
- 29:08Speaker 1: tweet dot com Okay, cool? Uh, Simon ad send me
- 29:11Speaker 1: a banner so I can put it in my newsletter
- 29:13Speaker 1: this week. Okay, I'm gonna put a little nice little
- 29:16Speaker 1: quote that you change my brand and LinkedIn, I recommend more.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna endorse you in my news letter this week. Okay, okay, cool.
- 29:23Speaker 1: There's a couple of things that were in the in
- 29:25Speaker 1: the book. It was some it was some lingo that
- 29:27Speaker 1: you threw out there that I want to talk about
- 29:29Speaker 1: that and SEO like you know where the s CEO
- 29:32Speaker 1: is a search engine optimization and let's talk about who
- 29:36Speaker 1: is the Icloud's side. You know a lot of your
- 29:39Speaker 1: wayback machine and talk about t T I don't kept
- 29:42Speaker 1: going where's t O S where's the old terms of service? Okay? Cool?
- 29:45Speaker 1: So so let's let's start with the s c O.
- 29:48Speaker 1: S CEO. Search engine optimization s c O is very
- 29:52Speaker 1: important and I don't think people really pay enough attention
- 29:55Speaker 1: to it because it's it's a it's a really involved algorithm. Basically,
- 30:01Speaker 1: so when you google something, you know, say you google
- 30:04Speaker 1: little Black Dress, you know, the first thing that comes
- 30:07Speaker 1: up might be macys dot com, then northrom dot com,
- 30:10Speaker 1: then Sex's Avenue or whatever. However that order comes up.
- 30:14Speaker 1: There's a reason for that, and that search engine optimization.
- 30:17Speaker 1: That search engine optimization is the the order in which
- 30:21Speaker 1: things get returned in search. And there's a lot of,
- 30:26Speaker 1: you know, stuff going on behind the curtain that makes
- 30:28Speaker 1: that happen, a lot of stuff you can do for
- 30:30Speaker 1: your website, for your social media, for whatever. But the
- 30:35Speaker 1: reason it's important is because depending on how you depending
- 30:39Speaker 1: on what your digital footprint looks like, you have some
- 30:44Speaker 1: little bit of control over what that search result looks like.
- 30:48Speaker 1: So if you've never Googled yourself, I say, that's where
- 30:51Speaker 1: you start Google yourself and see what comes back. You know,
- 30:53Speaker 1: you never know. You you may be thinking you're out
- 30:55Speaker 1: here killing the branding game and the marketing game, but
- 30:59Speaker 1: your name doesn't show up on a Google search and
- 31:01Speaker 1: tell five pages in or there might be somebody out
- 31:05Speaker 1: here that has your same name that's getting better search
- 31:07Speaker 1: results as you, and that that maybe you don't want
- 31:10Speaker 1: people to to associate with your name. You know, maybe
- 31:13Speaker 1: it's a porn star, maybe it's somebody with a criminal
- 31:15Speaker 1: record or something like that. So, um, so you wanna
- 31:19Speaker 1: you want to have as much control over what the
- 31:23Speaker 1: Internet knows about you and shows other people about you
- 31:27Speaker 1: as possible. So your digital footprint should reflect that. So
- 31:31Speaker 1: you should be taking advantage of as many social platforms
- 31:34Speaker 1: as possible, because social media platforms do excellent s c O. UM.
- 31:39Speaker 1: So if you have an account with that platform and
- 31:41Speaker 1: your account is complete and all the required fields or
- 31:44Speaker 1: or filled in, and you've got a photo and you
- 31:46Speaker 1: gotta BUYO and all that good stuff, and you're engaging
- 31:49Speaker 1: with the platform, those will come up near the top.
- 31:52Speaker 1: If you have your own website, that will usually come
- 31:55Speaker 1: up right near the top. If you have a YouTube channel.
- 31:57Speaker 1: You know, however, many as many digital such as you
- 32:00Speaker 1: can get, uh, those will usually bubble up to the top.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And then you know, depending on who you are, if
- 32:06Speaker 1: you if you can get any media attention, that kind
- 32:09Speaker 1: of stuff usually comes up on the first couple of pages.
- 32:11Speaker 1: So so when you're when you're thinking about how I
- 32:13Speaker 1: build my digital footprint so that you know when someone
- 32:17Speaker 1: googles me, they see the stuff I want them to see.
- 32:20Speaker 1: You think about those digital assets that you have access to,
- 32:24Speaker 1: and honestly, you know we we we talked about LinkedIn
- 32:26Speaker 1: a lot, this this type, this hour. But that's a
- 32:29Speaker 1: brook place to start if you don't have your own
- 32:31Speaker 1: website yet, or if you don't plan on getting one.
- 32:33Speaker 1: LinkedIn is a great place to start for anybody because
- 32:36Speaker 1: their s c o is amazing. LinkedIn is still the
- 32:39Speaker 1: first thing that comes up when you search my name
- 32:41Speaker 1: and I have a website, I have a website, I
- 32:43Speaker 1: got Instagram, I got everything. But LinkedIn is still the
- 32:46Speaker 1: first thing that comes up. So because it was built
- 32:49Speaker 1: right and you had the right information in there, unlike
- 32:51Speaker 1: with McDonald. That's why mc LinkedIn account never down at
- 32:57Speaker 1: the bottom. Down at the bottom is terrible. It's just
- 33:00Speaker 1: just terrible. I'm talking to my friend Stephanie Stephtech Humphrey.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Her book entitled Don't let your Digital Footprint Kick You
- 33:09Speaker 1: in the Butt. A Lesson in what not to do
- 33:12Speaker 1: on the Internet to build your personal brand. It's only
- 33:14Speaker 1: seven one pages. It's amazing. But before I go, I
- 33:17Speaker 1: wanted to talk about this little thing. And I think
- 33:19Speaker 1: that was catches the attention of high school students when
- 33:21Speaker 1: you go over there, teenagers and and these photos they
- 33:25Speaker 1: sent out semi nude or for nude, and it can
- 33:29Speaker 1: just damage their whole careers. Uh. Talk about that because
- 33:33Speaker 1: I know a lot of parents listen and they can
- 33:36Speaker 1: tell their child h warning about this situation because they
- 33:39Speaker 1: heard it on money making conversations. That plays a role
- 33:41Speaker 1: in this book. I'm telling you, this book covers a
- 33:44Speaker 1: cyber bullying and revenge porn uh iicloud a photo upload.
- 33:48Speaker 1: It's an amazing book that Stephanie. But stephan before we leave,
- 33:52Speaker 1: talk to us about that. Yeah, kids really have to
- 33:55Speaker 1: be careful with that because I know that's the way
- 33:57Speaker 1: that they communicate these days, and that's the way they alert,
- 34:00Speaker 1: and that's how relationships UH interact these days. But that
- 34:04Speaker 1: kind of thing will follow you around the web forever.
- 34:07Speaker 1: You can go on YouTube right now and google revenge
- 34:10Speaker 1: porn and you'll see women thirty thirty five years old
- 34:14Speaker 1: that sent a photo when they were seventeen that still
- 34:17Speaker 1: comes up when you search for their name. That still
- 34:20Speaker 1: is keeping them from getting the jobs they want and
- 34:22Speaker 1: and living the life that they want because of this
- 34:25Speaker 1: one time when this one boy, you know, asking for
- 34:29Speaker 1: this picture. So we really got to stress to to
- 34:32Speaker 1: our young ladies, especially that you know, it's just not
- 34:36Speaker 1: worth it. It's just not worth it. But I won't
- 34:38Speaker 1: tell who is worth it. The tech Queen, Steph Tech,
- 34:43Speaker 1: she's got it going on. You know. I always enjoyed
- 34:45Speaker 1: when you come on my show. I always appreciate you
- 34:47Speaker 1: taking the time to come on my show. We always
- 34:49Speaker 1: have a great time. But the information you give is
- 34:51Speaker 1: always uh. I think life changed because of the fact
- 34:54Speaker 1: that people's lives they don't listen, you know, if they
- 34:57Speaker 1: don't think before they post, it can really change their future.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Currently because the pastor in the social and digital world,
- 35:04Speaker 1: the past don't leave you. It's just hanging out there
- 35:07Speaker 1: in cyberspace. You can click to lead. All you want
- 35:09Speaker 1: is athletes that the baseball football from the past when
- 35:14Speaker 1: it was in high school and said little racial statements
- 35:17Speaker 1: that are coming back to haunt them and having to
- 35:19Speaker 1: apologize and all these things. Steph. All I need from
