Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome. It is Verdict with Ted Cruz, Weekend Review, Ben
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ferguson with you, and these are the stories that you
- 0:06Speaker 1: may have missed that we talked about this week and
- 0:09Speaker 1: was it a crazy week in the world of politics.
- 0:13Speaker 1: First up, let's go back in history when the Democrats
- 0:17Speaker 1: in Congress demanded that the Secret Service protection be stripped
- 0:21Speaker 1: of Donald Trump when he became a felon. Is there
- 0:26Speaker 1: going to be repercussions for those requests in light of
- 0:29Speaker 1: what happened with the assassination attempt? Also, there are so
- 0:33Speaker 1: many questions on the assassination attempt, So is there going
- 0:37Speaker 1: to be a hearing? The answer is yes, and how's
- 0:39Speaker 1: it going to play out? We'll explain that to you.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And finally, there is word that Joe Biden may even
- 0:45Speaker 1: drop out of the race and the Democratic Party is
- 0:48Speaker 1: pushing to delay the Democratic National Convention. It's the Weekend
- 0:53Speaker 1: Review and it starts right now. Democrats actively called members
- 0:59Speaker 1: of Congress so that no one thinks he is a
- 1:02Speaker 1: conspiracy theory for Donald Trump to lose Secret Service protection
- 1:08Speaker 1: if he was convicted of a felony. One of those
- 1:12Speaker 1: was my former Congressman Steve Cohen. He and several other
- 1:16Speaker 1: people in Congress said that they should pull Secret Service
- 1:20Speaker 1: protection of Donald Trump, which goes back to what you
- 1:23Speaker 1: said about it being political. They didn't care if Donald
- 1:26Speaker 1: Trump got killed. In fact, they advocated for taking away
- 1:29Speaker 1: the safety that protects a president from being killed. And
- 1:33Speaker 1: those are members of Congress. And it's amazing to me
- 1:37Speaker 1: that virtually, no, not virtually literally no one in the
- 1:40Speaker 1: media has brought that point up that just months ago
- 1:43Speaker 1: we had active Democrats in Congress, not fringe people. Okay,
- 1:49Speaker 1: these are elected officials who are demanding that Donald Trump
- 1:52Speaker 1: lose a Secret Service protection if he was convicted of
- 1:55Speaker 1: these I'm sorry hoaks, you know, crimes against him, they
- 1:58Speaker 1: tried to go after and for imprison him.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Well, and this was legislation that was filed by Congressman
- 2:05Speaker 2: Benny Thompson, who is who is the top Democrat on
- 2:08Speaker 2: the Homeland Security Committee.
- 2:10Speaker 1: So he's actually can you just say that again, so
- 2:11Speaker 1: if you understand how important that job is, and then
- 2:13Speaker 1: to understand that Homeland Security, how much they have to
- 2:16Speaker 1: do with the Secret Service.
- 2:17Speaker 2: So they are the committee of jurisdiction. They have authority
- 2:21Speaker 2: over the Department of Homeland Security. And Benny Thompson is
- 2:25Speaker 2: the senior Democrat, he's called the ranking member, and he
- 2:28Speaker 2: filed the legislation. He is the author of the legislation
- 2:32Speaker 2: to say, let's pull the Secret Service coverage from Donald
- 2:36Speaker 2: Trump entirely if he's convicted. And by the way, it's
- 2:38Speaker 2: a complete partisan conviction that is designed to subvert democracy.
- 2:44Speaker 2: But let's be clear, if you were to put any
- 2:48Speaker 2: former president into general population in a prison, they would die, yes.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And so he's literally effectively calling for a death sentence.
- 2:59Speaker 2: And by the way, Betty Thompson also had a staffer
- 3:03Speaker 2: who in the wake of this posted on x saying
- 3:08Speaker 2: that she wishes the shooter had taken shooting lessons and
- 3:11Speaker 2: that he wouldn't miss next time. Now, Benny Thompson fired
- 3:15Speaker 2: that staffer. He put out a statement, I was made
- 3:17Speaker 2: aware of a post made by a staff member and
- 3:20Speaker 2: she is no longer in my employment. But you know
- 3:22Speaker 2: what staff reflects the member, yep, And it reflects the
- 3:26Speaker 2: culture that her first reaction is to be angry that
- 3:31Speaker 2: this would be assassin did not in fact kill Donald Trump.
- 3:35Speaker 2: That's what she wanted and from his legislation, and it
- 3:39Speaker 2: was joined by multiple other Democrats that legislation, if it
- 3:43Speaker 2: actually had become law, and if Trump had gone to prison,
- 3:47Speaker 2: would have led directly to the death of Donald Trump.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And now they're suddenly saying, oh, well, we're very dismayed
- 3:53Speaker 2: that there was any violence towards it.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about the rewriting of history and move
- 3:58Speaker 1: also to the press conference CNNY and I that Joe
- 4:01Speaker 1: Biden had he opened it Winter press Coming. It's more
- 4:04Speaker 1: of a statement from the over office, I should say,
- 4:06Speaker 1: because there was no questions and what he said his
- 4:10Speaker 1: address to the nation when he opened was certainly rewriting
- 4:15Speaker 1: of history. Here he is, in his own words, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: want to speak you tonight about the need for us
- 4:20Speaker 1: to lower the temperature in our politics and to remember,
- 4:24Speaker 1: or may disagree, we are not enemies.
- 4:27Speaker 3: We're neighbors.
- 4:28Speaker 2: We're friends, coworkers, citizens, and most importantly, we are fellow Americans.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Sounds great. The problem is if you go and read
- 4:39Speaker 1: the president's own words in the days leading up to
- 4:43Speaker 1: this moment, that is not what he was saying at all.
- 4:46Speaker 1: He didn't say, hey, I need to tone it down
- 4:48Speaker 1: as well. Joe Biden's own tweet was quote Donald Trump
- 4:51Speaker 1: is the greatest threat to our democracy. He tweeted out again,
- 4:57Speaker 1: donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation. Another tweet,
- 5:03Speaker 1: he meaning, Trump is a threat to our freedom, he
- 5:08Speaker 1: is a threat to our democracy. He's literally this is
- 5:13Speaker 1: Joe Biden's words on Twitter on x He's literally referring
- 5:18Speaker 1: to Trump a threat to everything America stands for. He
- 5:23Speaker 1: also said Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy
- 5:25Speaker 1: and we cannot let him win. I'm in Madison, Wisconsin
- 5:29Speaker 1: talking to the folks about what's at stake in this election.
- 5:32Speaker 1: We cannot let him win. He also tweeted out Trump
- 5:36Speaker 1: poses many threats to our country, the right to choose,
- 5:40Speaker 1: civil rights, voting rights, and Americans and America city in
- 5:43Speaker 1: the world. But the greatest threat he poses is to
- 5:46Speaker 1: our democracy. If we lose that, we lose everything. If
- 5:52Speaker 1: I read those and I'm a crazy twenty year old lunatic,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and you tell me, as the President United States America,
- 6:00Speaker 1: that Donald Trump, and I'm quoting again, is a threat
- 6:02Speaker 1: to our democracy. Quote, He's literally a threat to everything
- 6:05Speaker 1: America stands for. Well, then it's not crazy to think
- 6:09Speaker 1: that that person would say, Well, then we have to
- 6:10Speaker 1: stop him at all means, because we've already tried to
- 6:12Speaker 1: impeach him. That didn't work. We tried to bankrupt him,
- 6:15Speaker 1: that didn't work. We tried to lock him up, that
- 6:17Speaker 1: didn't work. What's left.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Well, and you're right, and there's some irony with Joe
- 6:24Speaker 2: Biden suggesting, you know, we need to tamp down the rhetorical.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I'd like to see the rhetoric tamp down, but then
- 6:30Speaker 2: taking no responsibility. Listen, it is Democrats for a decade
- 6:35Speaker 2: who have been calling Donald Trump eight off Hitler.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and and.
- 6:40Speaker 1: The media too, and the media too.
- 6:42Speaker 2: And well, I said, democrats, and they're one in the
- 6:45Speaker 2: inn that the corporate media is the left wing of
- 6:48Speaker 2: the Democrat Party. That is their role, and they call
- 6:50Speaker 2: him that over and over and over again.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Here play the montage.
- 6:57Speaker 2: This is Democrats repeatedly calling for political violence. It starts
- 7:01Speaker 2: with Nancy Pelosi. Give a listen.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Here is Nancy Pelosi, as you mentioned, senator in her
- 7:06Speaker 1: own words, and many in the media and other elect
- 7:09Speaker 1: officials explicitly calling for political violence against conservatives.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I just don't even know why there aren't uprisings all
- 7:17Speaker 4: of the country, and maybe there will be. People need
- 7:19Speaker 4: to start taking to the streets.
- 7:21Speaker 2: This is a dictator, you know, there needs to be
- 7:24Speaker 2: unrest in the streets for as long as there's unrest
- 7:26Speaker 2: in our lives. Enemies of the state, show me where
- 7:29Speaker 2: it says that protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Do something about your dad's immigration practices. Effeckless, come, they go.
- 7:38Speaker 1: How do you resist the temptation to run up and
- 7:40Speaker 1: bring her neck? The biggest terror threat in this country
- 7:44Speaker 1: is white men, most of them radicalized up to the right.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I thought he should have punshed him in the face.
- 7:50Speaker 1: They said, even if you lost, he insulted you, Why
- 7:52Speaker 1: he's on the escalator and called Mexican's rapist and earth.
- 7:54Speaker 3: He said, well, what do you think I should have done?
- 7:55Speaker 2: So?
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think you should punish.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Him in the face and then gotten out of the race.
- 7:58Speaker 1: You would have been a hero.
- 7:59Speaker 3: I'd like to him in the face.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I said, if we're in high school, I taken behind
- 8:02Speaker 1: the gym and beat the hell out of him.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Put some people in the face. When was the last
- 8:07Speaker 3: time an actor assassinated a president? They're still going to
- 8:11Speaker 3: have to go out and put a bullet in Donald Trump.
- 8:13Speaker 2: And that's a fact.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Looks his character is stabbed to death. Where is John
- 8:21Speaker 3: Wilke's booth when you need him in this way up,
- 8:26Speaker 3: I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the
- 8:30Speaker 3: White House. A Missouri state senator is under investigation by
- 8:35Speaker 3: the Secret Service after saying she hopes President Trump is assassinated.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I will go and take Trump out to night.
- 8:42Speaker 3: And if you.
- 8:43Speaker 1: See anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a
- 8:47Speaker 1: department stap and a castles, you get.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Out and you create a clod and you push back
- 8:55Speaker 3: on them and you tell them then I'm now gone.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Very well. And sadly, the domestic enemies to our voting
- 9:04Speaker 2: system and are honoring our constitution are right at sixteen
- 9:09Speaker 2: hundred Pennsylvania Avenue.
- 9:11Speaker 1: They're not going to stop before election day in November,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and they're not going to stop after election day.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And that should be everyone should take note of that
- 9:18Speaker 2: on both levels.
- 9:19Speaker 3: That is, they're not going to let up, and they
- 9:21Speaker 3: should not. If you think you're say nothing yet.
- 9:31Speaker 1: That's what Donald Trump dealt with while he was president
- 9:36Speaker 1: and after being the president.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Look the radical left, Donald Trump melted their minds. They
- 9:45Speaker 2: hate him, and they have spewed invective and hate for years.
- 9:51Speaker 2: And listen, there's an invective on both sides. I would
- 9:57Speaker 2: like to see the political temperature taken down, but the
- 10:03Speaker 2: Democrats intend to go right back to this. This is
- 10:05Speaker 2: a brief, little pause for about twelve seconds, and by
- 10:12Speaker 2: I don't know, next week or the week after, they're
- 10:14Speaker 2: going to go back to Callingham hitler because the rage
- 10:19Speaker 2: and fury. Look the number of leftists on Twitter who
- 10:22Speaker 2: were lamenting that they were sad.
- 10:25Speaker 1: That isn't good at it. Yeah, they're basically saying this
- 10:28Speaker 1: if any and there were people literally tweeting out there like, hey,
- 10:31Speaker 1: this guy, next time, take lessons. Next time, actually do
- 10:34Speaker 1: a good job.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And let me be clear, as you and I talked about,
- 10:38Speaker 2: we did a podcast immediately in the moments after this
- 10:42Speaker 2: assassination attempt. I pray for Joe Biden. I don't wish
- 10:47Speaker 2: political violence on Democrats or anyone else.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Now.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I want Joe Biden defeated at the ballot box. That
- 10:54Speaker 2: I believe his policies are harmful. But there's a difference
- 10:58Speaker 2: between saying his policies are harmful and saying he's Hitler,
- 11:02Speaker 2: saying he's Mussolini, which is what saying he's the devil,
- 11:07Speaker 2: which is what the Democrats have been doing literally for
- 11:11Speaker 2: a decade, and it's what the media has been doing.
- 11:13Speaker 1: To I said today, how many cities have Republicans tried
- 11:17Speaker 1: to destroy? After their kin it was almossassinated. Just so
- 11:19Speaker 1: we're clear, zero, What did Republicans say today? They said, pray,
- 11:24Speaker 1: go to church, yes, and and and pray for the
- 11:27Speaker 1: family of those who lost loved ones. There's been no violence.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I never want to hear again from the left. Oh,
- 11:33Speaker 1: it's the Republicans of the extremists here. There has been
- 11:36Speaker 1: nothing but love and compassion.
- 11:38Speaker 2: There's anger, and we also need to fix the damn problem.
- 11:44Speaker 2: We need to make sure that there is is adequate
- 11:48Speaker 2: protection for Donald Trump and and and and for others
- 11:52Speaker 2: targeted by violence, because this was a catastrophic failure and
- 11:58Speaker 2: we got to make sure it doesn't have again.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Now, if you want to hear the rest of this conversation,
- 12:03Speaker 1: you can go back and listen to the full podcast
- 12:06Speaker 1: from earlier this week. Now onto story number two, Sina,
- 12:11Speaker 1: I want to.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Ask you this.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You're mentioned the Senate only meeting details. I'm going to
- 12:16Speaker 1: read this from CBS News. Details are emerging about the
- 12:18Speaker 1: moments that led to the shooting. Bystandards alerted law enforcement
- 12:21Speaker 1: to the government on the roof of a building about
- 12:24Speaker 1: four hundred and ten feet away from the stage, at
- 12:27Speaker 1: least two minutes before the first shot was fired at Trump.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Yep.
- 12:34Speaker 1: How vulnerable are we and how vulnerable is every president
- 12:40Speaker 1: past and present? If you've got a two minute warning
- 12:44Speaker 1: and the job is still not done?
- 12:45Speaker 3: Did anyone answer that question on the call?
- 12:47Speaker 2: Look, we need to have Part of the reason we
- 12:49Speaker 2: need to have a hearing is there a whole series
- 12:51Speaker 2: of questions about how many threats have there been? How
- 12:53Speaker 2: many agents did you have assigned? Should there be two
- 12:57Speaker 2: x three x four x as many agents assigned the president?
- 13:00Speaker 2: What resources, what equipment did you? Did you have the
- 13:05Speaker 2: threat profile? I'm willing to bet that Donald Trump is
- 13:09Speaker 2: the single most threatened individual on the face of the planet. Now,
- 13:12Speaker 2: I don't actually have the facts of the threats that
- 13:15Speaker 2: have come in to prove that is correct, but you
- 13:18Speaker 2: know what Secret Service does, and I would like us
- 13:22Speaker 2: to know what is the comparative threat level between Trump
- 13:25Speaker 2: and Biden? And my concern is that did politics play
- 13:31Speaker 2: a role?
- 13:31Speaker 3: Was it? Politics?
- 13:32Speaker 2: Are incompetence because it's clear they screwed up massively. Drink
- 13:36Speaker 2: I can tell you in this call. So you had
- 13:38Speaker 2: one senator who asked were there drones?
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yes or no?
- 13:43Speaker 2: And the answer from the head of the Secret Service
- 13:45Speaker 2: was we determined that the risk from that that rooftop
- 13:50Speaker 2: was mitigated.
- 13:50Speaker 3: By counter snipers.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Meaning now number one, if you didn't even say the
- 13:56Speaker 2: word no, which is what someone honestly would say, she
- 14:00Speaker 2: didn't say, well, obviously we needed drones and we should
- 14:02Speaker 2: have had them, which is what someone obviously would have said.
- 14:05Speaker 3: She didn't make the obvious point.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Well, the roof was slanted, so the counter snipers couldn't
- 14:09Speaker 2: see the guy because he was on the other end
- 14:11Speaker 2: of the slant. And by the way, I'm pretty sure
- 14:15Speaker 2: the roof didn't suddenly slant itself in between when they
- 14:18Speaker 2: advanced the scene and when it occurred. In other words,
- 14:22Speaker 2: they could have figured out if your quote mitigation is
- 14:26Speaker 2: counter snipers and they don't have a line of sight
- 14:29Speaker 2: to a place a sniper could be, then you don't
- 14:32Speaker 2: have effective mitigation. She addressed none of that, but it
- 14:36Speaker 2: was pure bureaucratase.
- 14:40Speaker 3: That's a good work for it. It's where I love
- 14:43Speaker 3: having a live studio audience. When you look up the.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Room and for the folks listening at home. Since we
- 14:49Speaker 2: are in a studio audience and the audience is not miked,
- 14:52Speaker 2: I will just say, you guys were in a cowfield
- 14:55Speaker 2: and they suggested it was a substance that was probably
- 14:57Speaker 2: there in large, large amounts.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Where you were there and after the shooting happened, you
- 15:05Speaker 1: saw how close it was. Where you shocked because I'm
- 15:08Speaker 1: sure you saw the commotion on the rooftop. I'm sure
- 15:10Speaker 1: you knew that's where the shots came out from. Then
- 15:13Speaker 1: you look at it, was there any I mean former
- 15:15Speaker 1: military When you look at it, Could you believe that building.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Was not monitored the way it should have been? Well,
- 15:20Speaker 3: you know, I would just be honest.
- 15:21Speaker 4: I didn't know at the on the site, right, you know,
- 15:24Speaker 4: you're in the middle of people, are you.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Know, you're trying to get people out.
- 15:28Speaker 4: So I wasn't sure until I got back and saw
- 15:31Speaker 4: the TV projections and the aerial photos where it came.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Were you shocked then knowing that you were there and
- 15:36Speaker 1: that's how close that building?
- 15:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 15:37Speaker 4: Absolutely, because it's the most obvious place. And the idea
- 15:42Speaker 4: is just to go back to my earlier point, the
- 15:44Speaker 4: idea that the sniper the twenty year old kid who
- 15:49Speaker 4: you know, has no experience would have known the place
- 15:53Speaker 4: where he wouldn't be in the sniper's line of sight. Yeah, right,
- 15:57Speaker 4: these are questions. I don't know what the answer is,
- 15:59Speaker 4: but it's seems highly unlikely that a single person could
- 16:03Speaker 4: have pulled this off without so much luck and so
- 16:06Speaker 4: much incompetence.
- 16:07Speaker 3: And so that's why the hearings to give us.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Confidence that we understand what really happened here are so
- 16:13Speaker 4: incredibly important.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Well, and look, I will say, the FBI was on
- 16:18Speaker 2: and they're investigating, and at least what they're reporting right
- 16:21Speaker 2: now is they don't have evidence of anyone else being involved,
- 16:23Speaker 2: and they're looking at his cell phone and his computers,
- 16:26Speaker 2: and they're engaged in the forensics, and we will find out.
- 16:29Speaker 3: We have seen with other instances.
- 16:31Speaker 2: There are times where their loan shooters commit horrific attacks,
- 16:34Speaker 2: and it's possible that this young man, who is an
- 16:38Speaker 2: alienated loaner that, unfortunately is a profile we've seen in
- 16:43Speaker 2: other instances of people who've committed horrific offenses, and.
- 16:46Speaker 3: So we'll find out in time.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I will say when the shooting occurs that this is
- 16:53Speaker 2: one of the moments I think every one of us
- 16:57Speaker 2: is going to remember exactly where we were when this happened,
- 17:00Speaker 2: and whether we were staring in horror at a television
- 17:03Speaker 2: set or in my instance, I was sitting there having
- 17:07Speaker 2: a meal with Heidi and we're staring at horror at
- 17:09Speaker 2: our phones and hitting refreshing. By the way, it says
- 17:12Speaker 2: something that nobody was on news sites. You're on social media,
- 17:16Speaker 2: you're on X because it's the fastest thing. You're getting
- 17:19Speaker 2: immediate updates of what's happening, one after the other after
- 17:22Speaker 2: the other. So we talked about, for example, on our
- 17:24Speaker 2: last podcast, we played from what got put up on
- 17:27Speaker 2: X of like one of the guys standing outside the
- 17:30Speaker 2: rally that saw this guy climbing on the roof yelling
- 17:33Speaker 2: the cops there's a guy with a rifle on the roof.
- 17:36Speaker 2: We now know a local police officer climbed up to
- 17:38Speaker 2: that roof. He pointed the rifle at the local police officer.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And yet, and we haven't had these questions yet, what
- 17:45Speaker 2: level of communication was there between the local police and
- 17:48Speaker 2: the secret service. The instant the local police officer saw
- 17:52Speaker 2: a sniper on a roof with with a gun, he
- 17:56Speaker 2: should have been yelling in his microphone shooter, shooter shoototer instantaneously.
- 18:01Speaker 2: The Secret Service should have pulled Trump off of that
- 18:04Speaker 2: stage before the shooter could aim, and they should have
- 18:06Speaker 2: taken him out right there. That didn't happen, which raises
- 18:13Speaker 2: the question was the Secret Service did they have communications
- 18:17Speaker 2: synchronized with local law enforcement? And I will tell you
- 18:21Speaker 2: something also, so I right before this podcast.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I was going to ask you that question because people
- 18:26Speaker 1: are going to want to hear this. You just met
- 18:28Speaker 1: with President Trump at the convention. For people that are listening,
- 18:32Speaker 1: you got see him his first time since.
- 18:35Speaker 2: His first time I've seen him since he was shot,
- 18:37Speaker 2: and I've visited with him, spent What do he say? Look,
- 18:40Speaker 2: Number one, he is, he is happy, he is he
- 18:43Speaker 2: is strong as ear his bandage. I will tell you
- 18:48Speaker 2: he he was quiet for a second and he spoke
- 18:55Speaker 2: with a seriousness that was unlike anything I've heard from
- 18:58Speaker 2: Donald Trump before. And he said God saved me that day.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And listen, I believe that is absolutely right. Many of
- 19:11Speaker 2: us have seen online, for example, recreations of the angle
- 19:15Speaker 2: of the bullet, and had his head turned even slightly
- 19:19Speaker 2: to the right or even slightly to the left, he
- 19:22Speaker 2: would have been killed and it is what I said
- 19:27Speaker 2: at the convention last night. I thank God for saving him.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I believe God turned his head, turned his head so
- 19:34Speaker 2: that the path of the bullet.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Did not kill him that day. And listen, this is horrific.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I will say, going back to the Reagan analogy, one
- 19:44Speaker 2: of the things Reagan always said is that when he
- 19:49Speaker 2: survived that assassination attempt, that it changed him, that it
- 19:53Speaker 2: gave him a seriousness of purpose.
- 19:55Speaker 3: That God spared me for a reason.
- 19:58Speaker 2: And listen, I think what Resident Trump has done already
- 20:01Speaker 2: for the country has been extraordinary. But but I got
- 20:05Speaker 2: to say, just visiting within a few minutes ago, it
- 20:07Speaker 2: was powerful in a very different way. And this was
- 20:10Speaker 2: just him and me talking one on one, that that
- 20:14Speaker 2: it had had a real impact. And I also I
- 20:17Speaker 2: talked to him about this briefing that I had just
- 20:19Speaker 2: left and and I expressed how deeply frustrating Uh it was. Now,
- 20:26Speaker 2: I will say, have you noticed uh Trump's Secret Service
- 20:29Speaker 2: detail here.
- 20:30Speaker 3: At the convention. They look like an offensive lineman. I
- 20:32Speaker 3: like a whole line Green Bay Packers.
- 20:35Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure the entire Green Bay Packers are right
- 20:39Speaker 2: now surrounding Donald.
- 20:40Speaker 3: What is your way and how tall. Are you yes,
- 20:42Speaker 3: we'll take you today. Yeah, it is different. Final question
- 20:46Speaker 3: for each of you as we wrap. I believe bringing
- 20:48Speaker 3: in the packers is probably worth three points.
- 20:50Speaker 4: It was critic like you smooth, how you did that?
- 20:58Speaker 3: As before.
- 20:59Speaker 1: If you want to hear the rest this conversation on
- 21:01Speaker 1: this topic, you can go back and dow the podcasts
- 21:04Speaker 1: from early this week to hear the entire thing. I
- 21:07Speaker 1: want to get back to the big story number three
- 21:10Speaker 1: of the week. You may have missed two final questions
- 21:13Speaker 1: A do they delay the convention? Number one? And two.
- 21:19Speaker 1: If they delay the convention, will he step down at
- 21:23Speaker 1: the convention and then have that be the media or
- 21:27Speaker 1: does it come out before the convention.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I don't think they delay the convention. They might, but
- 21:32Speaker 2: I doubt it, and they don't wait. I think this
- 21:35Speaker 2: happens within the next week. I think this could easily
- 21:38Speaker 2: happen this weekend. And frankly, look, the Democrats are smart
- 21:42Speaker 2: by delaying till after this convention.
- 21:44Speaker 3: This convention, let.
- 21:45Speaker 1: It happened and then kill them.
- 21:46Speaker 2: A minute has been phenomenal, and the media will treat
- 21:51Speaker 2: whoever parachutes in the media will treat it as a
- 21:53Speaker 2: brand new race. Ignore anything that happened before. We're brand new,
- 21:58Speaker 2: starting over, and so I think they want to get
- 22:00Speaker 2: on with that quickly. So my prediction, by the way,
- 22:04Speaker 2: if you want to think about momentous and historic weeks
- 22:09Speaker 2: in politics. On Saturday, the forward president of the United
- 22:14Speaker 2: States was shot, the first presidential assassination attempts since nineteen
- 22:18Speaker 2: eighty one. Immediately thereafter, we've had an incredibly successful convention,
- 22:24Speaker 2: We've had a vice presidential nominee named, and it could
- 22:28Speaker 2: be within a week of that, because I could easily
- 22:30Speaker 2: see it being this weekend. Joe Biden is off the ballot,
- 22:35Speaker 2: and we have a new Democrat nominee, and there's chatter,
- 22:38Speaker 2: there's some of the pundits that are saying, oh, we
- 22:40Speaker 2: ought to have an open primary, we to have Democrats fighting.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Are going to happen.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I don't believe that will happen. They will coroinate and
- 22:46Speaker 2: I think it'll be one.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Of the two.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Then my bonus question is either three or c depending
- 22:50Speaker 1: on how you want to enlist these. How many times
- 22:53Speaker 1: will Kamala Harris or Michelle Obama debate Donald Trump?
- 22:57Speaker 3: Once? It will have one, just one debate. We will
- 22:59Speaker 3: have one.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Demand could they get away with saying I'm not going
- 23:02Speaker 1: to debate now. No, even if it's Michelle.
- 23:05Speaker 2: I think they will do one debate. I think they
- 23:07Speaker 2: will feel like it's not credible if you don't do
- 23:10Speaker 2: a debate, particularly because.
- 23:12Speaker 1: If you're Trump, do you push for two? I would yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 1: but they say it's a reset. We're doing two of
- 23:17Speaker 1: these suckers before November.
- 23:18Speaker 2: But I don't think they'll end up doing it. Look,
- 23:20Speaker 2: I think Trump may well push for two. Part of
- 23:23Speaker 2: the reason if you're a Democrat, everyone concedes Trump mopped
- 23:26Speaker 2: the floor with Biden. I think it's a Democrat. You
- 23:28Speaker 2: don't want that to be the only debate. If you're
- 23:30Speaker 2: putting someone new, you'd need something credible. I will tell
- 23:34Speaker 2: you I just came from a meeting that that jd.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Vance met with all the senators. We're congratulating him, and
- 23:39Speaker 2: he did have a very funny thing he shared with us.
- 23:42Speaker 2: He said, you know, he was talking to to Trump about, well, okay,
- 23:46Speaker 2: who are we going to face.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Is it going to be someone new? Is it going
- 23:49Speaker 3: to be Kamala? And and and and.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Jad said well, well, look, mister President, I said, yes,
- 23:54Speaker 2: assuming I got to debate Kamala. If they actually bring
- 23:57Speaker 2: in someone that's a really good debater. I may have
- 23:59Speaker 2: to re think this. Trump said, no backing out. You
- 24:02Speaker 2: accepted the thing. You're stuck, You're going anywhere.
- 24:06Speaker 3: But look that I think they'll do it fast. By
- 24:11Speaker 3: the way, I will.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Point out the night of the debate, when you and
- 24:14Speaker 2: I did a podcast immediately thereafter, we said that night,
- 24:18Speaker 2: this is the most consequential presidential debate in American history.
- 24:22Speaker 2: And the reason we said that is because we said,
- 24:25Speaker 2: I believe this will change the names on the ballot
- 24:29Speaker 2: in November, and that has never happened. There's never been
- 24:31Speaker 2: a debate that changed the names on the ballot, and
- 24:34Speaker 2: that's exactly what that debate did. It took a few
- 24:36Speaker 2: weeks to play out, but I think it is imminent.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I think it is within days.
- 24:41Speaker 1: To everybody that's here in the hall, thank you guys
- 24:43Speaker 1: for joining us. It's nice to do a show here
- 24:46Speaker 1: live at the convention. Senator Kuruz and I do this
- 24:49Speaker 1: money was a Friday hit. That subscribe auto download button
- 24:52Speaker 1: wherever you are and I have.
- 24:54Speaker 2: By the way, how do you subscribe? Because because as
- 24:56Speaker 2: you know, my dad's eighty five. My father is my hero,
- 24:59Speaker 2: but my father points out all the time when I
- 25:01Speaker 2: use the word subscribe, he says, people my generation think
- 25:04Speaker 2: magazine subscriptions. They think you're gonna charge us, don't cost anymore,
- 25:08Speaker 2: doesn't cost any money, and you put so all right
- 25:10Speaker 2: a line I say all the time on the trail.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I say, if you're under forty, subscribe to the podcast.
- 25:15Speaker 3: If you're over forty, call.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Your kids or call your grandkids and ask them to
- 25:19Speaker 2: help you subscribe to the podcast. But it's real simple,
- 25:21Speaker 2: and I see a bunch of young people there know
- 25:24Speaker 2: how to do this, and like, call your parents, call
- 25:26Speaker 2: your grandparents and say, okay, give me your phone. Actually,
- 25:29Speaker 2: don't even tell them, just just take their phone.
- 25:31Speaker 1: It's easy.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Here.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Pull it up, pull up podcast, hit subscribe and it
- 25:35Speaker 2: magically appears. You can set it to download it to'll
- 25:38Speaker 2: magically appear. And it's every Monday, every Wednesday, it's every Friday.
- 25:41Speaker 2: And we do this number one. If you subscribe to
- 25:45Speaker 2: the podcast, you know what's happening. We predicted this ten
- 25:48Speaker 2: months ago, and by the way, nobody else was predicting this.
- 25:51Speaker 1: We were do we get a letter from the media
- 25:53Speaker 1: when they thought we were moonbacks apologizing No, okay, but
- 25:57Speaker 1: number two.
- 25:58Speaker 2: This is designed to equip you to give you the
- 26:02Speaker 2: tools when you're talking to your friends, your family, young people,
- 26:05Speaker 2: when you're talking to your classmates in school and they're
- 26:08Speaker 2: arguing in to give you the facts that the corporate
- 26:11Speaker 2: media never reports. That's what we try to do three
- 26:14Speaker 2: times a week on this is this is what you
- 26:16Speaker 2: need to know to go and persuade and win.
- 26:20Speaker 1: And I promise we will have an emergency pod if
- 26:24Speaker 1: and when Joe Biden drops out.
- 26:27Speaker 3: That's a fair prediction. I think that is a prediction.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Grab it wherever you can.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Donald Trump's speech tonight, any prediction last minute will he
- 26:36Speaker 1: needle Joe Biden.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Look, I think it is going to be substantially tamped down.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I think Saturday change the speech. In fact, I know
- 26:44Speaker 2: Saturday change the speech that I think prior to Saturday
- 26:48Speaker 2: the speech was going to be quite combative, and I
- 26:52Speaker 2: expect to see a lot of unity, a lot more
- 26:56Speaker 2: language seeking to bring people together. And look, we've seen
- 27:00Speaker 2: this throughout the convention. We talked about we did a
- 27:04Speaker 2: live podcast at the convention yesterday. I talked about when
- 27:07Speaker 2: I visited with President Trump yesterday, and I think Saturday
- 27:11Speaker 2: really had an impact on him had an impact. I
- 27:12Speaker 2: mean he kind of pulled me aside and said really quietly,
- 27:15Speaker 2: just said God saved me. And it was quiet and
- 27:20Speaker 2: serious in a way that I think is really consequential, and.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Listen.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I think it's you can't go through what he went
- 27:29Speaker 2: through Saturday, having been shot and having been within a
- 27:32Speaker 2: half inch of being killed, Amen, without really thinking about
- 27:37Speaker 2: God Almighty turning his head because I believe that happened.
- 27:40Speaker 2: I believe it was divine providence that turned his head,
- 27:43Speaker 2: and had it been slightly one way or the other,
- 27:45Speaker 2: we would be having a dramatically different conversation.
- 27:48Speaker 1: As always, thank you for listening to Verdict with center
