- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning, everyone. I'm Alex. And
- 0:17I'm Morgan. You are listening to Connecting the
- 0:19Dots, coming to you from Snarful Solutions Group
- 0:22here in sunny, well, not so sunny Sacramento,
- 0:26California. Not so sunny is right. It is Monday.
- 0:29February 2nd, 2026. And if you're driving anywhere
- 0:34in the valley right now, you might be wondering
- 0:36if the world outside your car actually still
- 0:38exists. It is absolute soup out there. We have
- 0:41a dense fog advisory until noon, and I'm pretty
- 0:45sure visibility is being measured in like...
- 0:47feet, not miles. Seriously. Keep those lights
- 0:50on, ease up a little. It is not the day to be
- 0:53setting any land speed records on the commute.
- 0:55But you know, a little fog is nothing compared
- 0:57to what the rest of the country is dealing with.
- 0:59If you're on the east coast or down south, wow,
- 1:01it is brutally cold. We're talking potential
- 1:03all -time February record lows in Florida. And
- 1:07up north, there's an Alberta Clipper moving through.
- 1:09And for those who don't speak meteorologists,
- 1:11that's just a fancy term for a really fast, really
- 1:14nasty blast of Canadian air that drops some snow
- 1:16and sends the temperatures plummeting. So yeah,
- 1:19the Northern Plains, Great Lakes. You're getting
- 1:22hammered. Stay warm. Definitely. But despite
- 1:26the deep freeze, the markets are actually starting
- 1:28the week pretty warm. Lots of green on the screen.
- 1:31OK, that's good to hear. The Dow is up significantly,
- 1:34about three quarters of a percent. The S &P 500
- 1:37is right there with it. up over half a percent
- 1:40and what about the crypto world it's been a bit
- 1:42shaky it has bitcoin is having a bit of a recovery
- 1:46day it's up almost two percent but and this is
- 1:50a big but you have to remember the context right
- 1:52That's after a really rough week. It's still
- 1:55down over 11 % from last Monday. The classic
- 1:58crypto roller coaster. You know it. And handling
- 2:01that kind of volatility, and frankly, this fog,
- 2:04it requires a very specific kind of fuel. Oh,
- 2:07I think I know where this is going. You absolutely
- 2:09do. We are so thrilled to welcome a new partner
- 2:11to the show, Strong Coffee. Now, we drink an
- 2:14almost embarrassing amount of coffee here at
- 2:16Snarfl. And when you hear instant coffee, your
- 2:20brain immediately goes to that sad, bitter sludge
- 2:23sad bean water sad bean water exactly the stuff
- 2:27you drink at a desperation right but strong coffee
- 2:30has actually they've cracked the code it's instant
- 2:33but it tastes like a real traditional brew the
- 2:36game changer though is what's inside it It's
- 2:39packed with 15 grams of protein and MCTs. And
- 2:42MCTs for anyone who doesn't know are basically
- 2:44healthy fats, usually from coconut oil, that
- 2:47your body can convert into energy super quickly.
- 2:49Exactly. Plus it has adaptogens like ashwagandha,
- 2:52which helps you manage stress. So instead of
- 2:54those caffeine jitters and that 2 p .m. crash.
- 2:57Where you want to just curl up into your dad.
- 2:59You get this clean, sustained energy. It's a
- 3:01huge upgrade to the morning routine. So if you
- 3:03want to try it out, just head over to strongcoffeecompany
- 3:05.com. Use the promo code SNARFL. That's S -N
- 3:09-A -A -R -F -U -L for 20 % off your entire purchase.
- 3:13All right. Coffee's poured. Let's get into it.
- 3:15It is time for our morning star, the SNARFL Tech
- 3:18article report. We've sifted through all the
- 3:21noise to bring you the three stories that really
- 3:22matter today. And looking at the lineup. It seems
- 3:26like the theme is massive ambition colliding
- 3:29with the hard wall of reality. That's a great
- 3:32way to put it It's about how money moves how
- 3:34tech breaks and well how governments are starting
- 3:37to react. So let's start with the Elon Musk Empire
- 3:39There is some Let's call it creative accounting
- 3:43happening between his companies that really tells
- 3:45a much bigger story It's a fascinating look at
- 3:48how you move money when you own all the pieces
- 3:51on the board. So the headline is that SpaceX
- 3:55Musk's private rocket company has bought over
- 3:58a thousand Cybertrucks from Tesla, his public
- 4:02car company. A thousand. And that number might
- 4:04even go up to two thousand. It could. Just doing
- 4:06some quick math here. That's a cash transfer
- 4:08of what, somewhere between 80 and 160 million
- 4:11dollars. That's right. Moving straight from SpaceX's
- 4:14books over to Tesla's, it's a pretty significant
- 4:17injection of cash. OK, so on the surface, you
- 4:19might think, all right, fine, SpaceX has that
- 4:21giant star base facility in Texas. They need
- 4:24trucks. And honestly, the Cybertruck looks like
- 4:26it was designed to drive around a rocket factory.
- 4:29It absolutely fits the aesthetic. Yeah, it looks
- 4:31like it belongs on Mars. But the question people
- 4:33are asking is, Does a rocket company really need
- 4:362 ,000 of them? Right. This feels like it's about
- 4:39more than just fleet management. It is. This
- 4:42is what finance people call a related party transaction.
- 4:45And it matters because of the, let's say, the
- 4:49health of the seller in this deal. Which is Tesla.
- 4:52And Tesla has been struggling to sell these things.
- 4:54Massively struggling. I mean, think back to the
- 4:56hype in 2019. Smashing windows on stage, pre
- 5:00-orders flooding in. They built out capacity
- 5:02to make 250 ,000 of these a year. And the reality?
- 5:06Where are they now? The estimates, and this is
- 5:09based on actual registration data, suggest they
- 5:11are selling fewer than 20 ,000 a year. Wow. It's
- 5:14a colossal miss. We're talking less than 10 %
- 5:17of their intended capacity. And we know why,
- 5:19right? I mean, the price went way up from what
- 5:21was promised. The range is lower. Some of the
- 5:24coolest features like that ramp tailgate just
- 5:27disappeared. Exactly. The product didn't quite
- 5:29deliver on the initial promise. So you have Tesla,
- 5:31a public company, sitting on a mountain of inventory
- 5:34just as their incentives are running out. They
- 5:37desperately need to show good numbers for the
- 5:39quarter and suddenly suddenly SpaceX a private
- 5:42company controlled by the same guy swoops in
- 5:45and buys a huge chunk of that inventory It's
- 5:48kind of like if your lemonade stand is failing
- 5:51so you take your allowance money to buy your
- 5:53own lemonade just to make it look successful.
- 5:55That is a surprisingly perfect analogy. It's
- 5:58legal as long as it's disclosed properly, but
- 6:00it definitely obscures the true market demand.
- 6:03It makes the sales sheet look good for investors
- 6:05who aren't digging into the details. Right. But
- 6:08this is where the story gets much, much bigger
- 6:10because SpaceX isn't just a customer here. It's
- 6:14basically become the central bank for the entire
- 6:16Mosquito system. Okay, explain that well SpaceX
- 6:19isn't a quiet period right now ahead of a potential
- 6:22IPO in 2026 and the rumors swirling around this
- 6:26IPO are valuing the company at 1 .5 trillion
- 6:31dollars trillion with a T. That's that's nation
- 6:33-state money that puts it in the same category
- 6:35as Amazon or Google It absolutely does and if
- 6:38that valuation holds Elon Musk would become the
- 6:41world's First trillion. He's sitting at around
- 6:44680 billion now, which is already impossible
- 6:47to comprehend, but this is a whole different
- 6:49level. So where does that money go? Well, look
- 6:52at what's happening. SpaceX isn't just buying
- 6:54trucks. It's also funneling $2 billion into XAI,
- 6:59Musk's artificial intelligence company. So the
- 7:01profitable cash -rich company, SpaceX, is being
- 7:04used to prop up the struggling product line at
- 7:07Tesla and also fund the brand new cash -hungry
- 7:11AI venture. Precisely. It's a closed loop economy.
- 7:14The real risk for potential investors is, are
- 7:17you investing in a world -changing rocket company?
- 7:20Or are you just funding a slush fund for all
- 7:22of Musk's other projects? That is the trillion
- 7:24dollar question. And speaking of that $2 billion
- 7:26investment in XAI, that takes us right to our
- 7:29second story. Because while the money is flowing
- 7:32to build these AI tools, the ethical guardrails
- 7:35are... Well, they seem to be optional. Yeah,
- 7:38this story is a lot darker. We're talking about
- 7:40Grok, the AI chatbot from XAI. It's been generating
- 7:43non -consensual sexual deepfakes for a while
- 7:45now. And despite a lot of promises that they
- 7:48were fixing it, a new investigation shows that
- 7:51they really have it. Not even close. The Verge
- 7:54did a really thorough investigation and a warning
- 7:58to listeners the details are pretty disturbing.
- 8:00They found that Grok is still, to put it plainly,
- 8:03undressing people. And we're not talking about
- 8:06some complicated technical work around here,
- 8:08right? No, not at all. This is on the main app,
- 8:10the main website. The test case they used involved
- 8:13uploading a clothed photo of a man and Grok would
- 8:16just strip him and put him in fetish gear. Leather
- 8:18harnesses? Bikinis? I read that in some cases,
- 8:22it even generated visible genitalia through mesh.
- 8:26That is incredibly graphic for a mainstream tool.
- 8:28It is, and the response from the company has
- 8:30been, well... baffling. They said they put up
- 8:33guardrails. Their big fix was to put image generation
- 8:36behind a paywall. Which is not a safety feature.
- 8:39That's just charging for the abuse. It might
- 8:41reduce the volume, but it doesn't solve the core
- 8:43problem. It makes it a premium feature, basically.
- 8:45And the so -called technical filters they added
- 8:47on January 14th, they are flimsy. Easy to get
- 8:51around. Unbelievably easy. You don't need to
- 8:53be a hacker. You just use prompts like, show
- 8:55her in a transparent bikini. That's the hack.
- 8:58That's all it takes. It's like the system is
- 9:00designed to obey intent over safety. And the
- 9:03scale of this is just, it's horrifying. There
- 9:07was data showing that in one hour, It generated
- 9:09almost 8 ,000 of these images just under 8 ,000
- 9:13violations of privacy in 60 minutes. This is
- 9:16where that whole move fast and break things philosophy
- 9:18just completely falls apart. And now. The regulators
- 9:22are coming. The European Union in particular.
- 9:24Oh, they are not happy. They've opened a formal
- 9:26investigation under the Digital Services Act,
- 9:28the DSA. And the DSA is not a toothless tiger.
- 9:32We're talking fines of up to six percent of a
- 9:34company's global annual revenue. Which for a
- 9:36company this size would be a business ending
- 9:39number. It could be. And they can also just ban
- 9:41the platform outright. It's not just Europe either.
- 9:43The UK's prime minister called it disgraceful.
- 9:46U .S. lawmakers are pointing to the Take It Down
- 9:48Act. The pressure is building. So you have this
- 9:50incredible tension. Story one is about this massive
- 9:55trillion dollar valuation funding AI growth.
- 9:59And story two is about that AI growth creating
- 10:02a product so dangerous it might get banned worldwide.
- 10:06It's a perfect example of corporate responsibility
- 10:08failing to keep up with technical capability.
- 10:11They built a rocket engine but forgot to install
- 10:13any brakes. And when you do that, you're bound
- 10:15to crash. Which, interestingly enough, brings
- 10:18us to our third story. Because one country did
- 10:22hit the brakes hard, but now they're easing off
- 10:26a bit. Right, we're talking about Indonesia.
- 10:28Indonesia was actually the first country to just
- 10:30completely ban Grok over these exact pornographic
- 10:32content concerns. And for context, Indonesia
- 10:34has some of the strictest laws in the world about
- 10:37this stuff. They do not mess around. They block
- 10:39PornHub, OnlyFans, even Reddit sometimes. If
- 10:41you cross their line, you're out. They don't
- 10:42care how big you are. But the news today is they've
- 10:46lifted the ban. GROK is back online in Indonesia.
- 10:49It is, but with a big asterisk next to it. It's
- 10:52been restored on a conditional basis and is under
- 10:54strict supervision. So what does that mean? Apparently
- 10:57XCOR sent a formal letter to the Indonesian government
- 10:59and in it they outlined concrete steps they were
- 11:03taking to prevent this from happening again.
- 11:06Concrete steps. Now, let's hold that phrase up
- 11:09against what we just learned from the Verge investigation.
- 11:11Exactly. If the current steps are so easy to
- 11:14bypass with a simple text prompt, what exactly
- 11:18did they promise Indonesia? Are these steps real
- 11:21or is this just a diplomatic show? That's the
- 11:25disconnect, isn't it? Did they deploy a special,
- 11:27more secure version just for Indonesia or did
- 11:30they just send a nicely worded letter and hope
- 11:32for the best? Seems like a global game of whack
- 11:35-a -mole. And other countries have done this
- 11:36too, right? Yeah, the Philippines, Malaysia.
- 11:39They've also done temporary blocks and then lifted
- 11:41them after getting these kinds of promises. It
- 11:43shows that governments do have leverage here.
- 11:45They can force these giants to the negotiating
- 11:47table. But the core question remains, if the
- 11:51underlying AI model hasn't been fundamentally
- 11:53changed to refuse these requests, aren't these
- 11:56just empty promises? That is the fear. You can
- 11:59filter keywords like transparent, but users will
- 12:02just switch to sheer. or gossamer. Unless the
- 12:06AI understands the concept of what it's being
- 12:08asked to do is wrong, the problem will always
- 12:11be there. It really does connect all three stories,
- 12:14doesn't it? The financial pressure to get that
- 12:17IPO, that money funding, reckless AI development,
- 12:20and that recklessness crashing into laws of sovereign
- 12:23nation. It's a perfect storm. Ambition is outpacing
- 12:26ethics, and the regulators are running to catch
- 12:28up. It's going to be a very messy year for AI
- 12:31safety. It sure is. Wow. That is a lot to process
- 12:35for a Monday morning. It is, but it's important
- 12:37to know where this is all heading. Definitely.
- 12:39So before we wrap up, let's talk about something
- 12:41a little lighter. If you're looking out at this
- 12:43fog and just dreaming of a sunny green fairway,
- 12:46we've got something for you. Yes, we want to
- 12:48give a quick shout out to our friends at Skoni.
- 12:50That's S -K -O -N -I. If you're a golfer, you
- 12:53know the deal with golf shoes. They're stiff,
- 12:55they're ugly, and you can't wait to take them
- 12:56off. Skoni is totally different. They make these
- 12:59premium golf shoes that are genuinely comfortable,
- 13:01and they actually look good. You can wear them
- 13:03straight from the 18th green to lunch without
- 13:06looking at a place. They're fantastic. Go treat
- 13:08yourself. Head over to scony .com, use the promo
- 13:11code SNARFL when you check out, and you'll get
- 13:1315 % off your entire purchase. OK, so let's do
- 13:16a quick recap of what we unpacked today. First
- 13:18up, the Musk financial merry -go -round. SpaceX
- 13:22is acting as the bank, buying up Cybertrux to
- 13:24boost Tesla's numbers, all while it's eyeing
- 13:27a massive $1 .5 trillion IPO. Second, the Grok
- 13:32AI scandal is not getting better, it's getting
- 13:34worse. New investigations prove it's still creating
- 13:38non -consensual deepfakes, and the European Union
- 13:40is getting ready to drop the hammer with some
- 13:43potentially huge fines. And finally, Indonesia
- 13:45has lifted its ban on Grok, but only after getting
- 13:48promises of concrete steps from XCOR, promises
- 13:51that, given everything else we know, we should
- 13:54probably be pretty skeptical about. It's going
- 13:55to be a fascinating week in tech, and we will
- 13:57be here every day to break it all down for you.
- 13:59As always, thanks for tuning in and starting
- 14:01your morning with us. We're here to help at Snarful,
