- 1:25Speaker 1: I watched that network, BT, grew up on that network, NBC,
- 1:29Speaker 1: My Network, CBS, and more. Founder of the CEO Chick
- 1:32Speaker 1: Network and your Beauty Expert. She is also the author
- 1:35Speaker 1: of a book I just finished reading called brand to Bucks,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and a motivational speaker. Please Welcome to Money Making Conversation.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Colleen o Tero, Hey, Hey, hey, hey, good morning. You
- 1:49Speaker 1: know I got the name correct. Everything was right right? Okay, yes,
- 1:56Speaker 1: now I know I can't say that now, but you
- 1:58Speaker 1: did it better than me. I'm sorry, I better know
- 2:03Speaker 1: how to say. There you go telling this. Welcome to
- 2:06Speaker 1: my show, and h the reason I love talking about you.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You know you you mentioned you have a balanced life.
- 2:13Speaker 1: You know, at the very top of your questions you know. So,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I'm a busy person and I will tell you I
- 2:20Speaker 1: did not understand when you slow down, when to stop,
- 2:23Speaker 1: when to operate my life on fear of fear of
- 2:27Speaker 1: losing an opportunity. How does one I don't want to
- 2:31Speaker 1: understand balance in their life when they're trying to be
- 2:34Speaker 1: successful or they are successful. Yeah, it's definitely a learning process,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and I think it varies for each person. But for me,
- 2:43Speaker 1: especially having a family and having four boys, one that's
- 2:47Speaker 1: in college right now, and being married for eighteen years,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you have to allow those relationships. You have to understand that. Man,
- 2:56Speaker 1: my children are the greatest investment that I have. They're
- 3:00Speaker 1: the greatest investment that I have. My relationship with my
- 3:03Speaker 1: husband the greatest investment that I have. And if we
- 3:06Speaker 1: believe in relationship currency, then who not better to invest
- 3:11Speaker 1: in than the ones that we are around our family
- 3:13Speaker 1: unit to make sure they're good. Um, being in a
- 3:16Speaker 1: relationship and and being a mother, being a wife is
- 3:20Speaker 1: very selfless. It's it's the most selfless thing a person
- 3:25Speaker 1: can do. And I think it prepares us for business,
- 3:28Speaker 1: to be quite honest, I think it prepares us and
- 3:30Speaker 1: make sure we are building up our character and make
- 3:33Speaker 1: sure we're integral. No one will tell you, you know,
- 3:35Speaker 1: the real like your own children, like your own spouse.
- 3:40Speaker 1: They hear everything now walls, kids can hear through walls.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Just let you know. Yeah, yeah, And so it's definitely
- 3:49Speaker 1: a challenge. But I think living a life of service
- 3:53Speaker 1: and understanding that our our gifts and our talents are
- 3:56Speaker 1: not just for status but to serve, I think changes
- 4:00Speaker 1: the way you do life. You know, you realize that
- 4:03Speaker 1: everything matters. You know. One of the things my mentor
- 4:06Speaker 1: used to tell me is you lead from your bedroom.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And it took me a while to figure that one out,
- 4:12Speaker 1: but but it is. It's very, very true. Um, the
- 4:16Speaker 1: life I have with my husband and my family are
- 4:19Speaker 1: just it's everything to me and my success it springs
- 4:22Speaker 1: from that place, from a healthy relationship, you know, and
- 4:26Speaker 1: so it's it's something that has to take precedence, it
- 4:29Speaker 1: has to be a priority in our lives, and it is.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It's a challenge now, it's a challenge, but different tools scheduling, communication,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know, sharing a calendar, all of those different things
- 4:42Speaker 1: really really help. And there are times that you know
- 4:45Speaker 1: your family because they understand what you're building and as
- 4:49Speaker 1: you're building this empire, you know. Per se, they get it.
- 4:52Speaker 1: They get sometimes that mommy has to sacrifice and they
- 4:56Speaker 1: understand that this is this time. You know what, mommy,
- 5:00Speaker 1: ahead you do that we want to see you when
- 5:01Speaker 1: we want to see you go, and so it's just
- 5:04Speaker 1: great to have that, you know, so we're in it
- 5:06Speaker 1: together and it makes a big difference. So there's times
- 5:09Speaker 1: I'll say no, you know, from my family, you know
- 5:13Speaker 1: what I mean. And there's times they'll be like, Mommy, no,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you gotta go, you gotta do this now. I love
- 5:17Speaker 1: it now. Fame is interesting because of the fact that
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know when your TV become a recognizable talent. And
- 5:23Speaker 1: I mentioned some credits about being on Bravo, BT, NBC,
- 5:27Speaker 1: CBS and more basically in your television appearances that you've
- 5:31Speaker 1: made over you which which which show or what your
- 5:34Speaker 1: pearance has had the most impact on your career because
- 5:36Speaker 1: that's about branding now. Yeah, and you know, Um, for me,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I was more so behind the scenes because I'm I'm
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know, I'm helping my clients, you know what I mean.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Um looked apart. So I would say one of the
- 5:51Speaker 1: biggest things was what I got to do here recently
- 5:54Speaker 1: with working with Black Girls Rock in the Summer. Um
- 5:57Speaker 1: that that was huge, That was really really a huge
- 6:01Speaker 1: huge that through social media huge or just being able
- 6:04Speaker 1: to put it on your resume. Both. I say both, because, um,
- 6:11Speaker 1: it was such an amazing just experience on a whole
- 6:15Speaker 1: uh to Queen Latifa, you know, she's a goat, like
- 6:20Speaker 1: just the Beyoncet. To watch her move and do her thing,
- 6:23Speaker 1: it's just absolutely fabulous. But I would definitely say it
- 6:29Speaker 1: worked in both aspects. Just getting more recognition. You know,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you work so hard, you know, for for years and years,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and it takes time for that to even happen. But
- 6:40Speaker 1: I would definitely say it impacted both. And I don't
- 6:43Speaker 1: feel like I'm at a place to where it's it's overwhelming.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I think I've gotten there. You know, I can tell
- 6:49Speaker 1: about your conversation. You're not overwhelmed now because you can
- 6:51Speaker 1: talk see her personal ability to put words together as
- 6:54Speaker 1: fast as you do, and incentensives. You're not going to
- 6:57Speaker 1: be overwhelmed. It's gonna be truth. But right now I'm
- 7:03Speaker 1: gonna tell your truth now. Now, we talked about brands
- 7:05Speaker 1: in the in your book. I read your book, and
- 7:07Speaker 1: I you know, It's always fun. When I read a
- 7:09Speaker 1: book like this, it's almost like a refresher course, like
- 7:12Speaker 1: you go to class, like you're auditing something. You go,
- 7:15Speaker 1: oh good, I am doing the right things, you know,
- 7:17Speaker 1: because the respective voice is saying the same things too.
- 7:20Speaker 1: And I consider your respective voice in the industry when
- 7:23Speaker 1: you do when you wrote the book Brand to Books,
- 7:26Speaker 1: What was the number one reason you wrote this book?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Oh man, the number one thing I would go with
- 7:34Speaker 1: is being broke. Going through the experience of of of
- 7:41Speaker 1: lack is so it's so rough, especially when you're you're
- 7:44Speaker 1: you're not used to it, you're not accustomed to it.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And I remember being in this space and saying, why
- 7:49Speaker 1: am I here? Why am I losing all of these properties?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Why am I closing down my salon? Why am I
- 7:57Speaker 1: going through this? Like literally like beating on Heaven's door,
- 8:01Speaker 1: like what is up? What did I do wrong? And
- 8:04Speaker 1: and you know, being broke really really blessed me, and
- 8:07Speaker 1: it really did something. Being broke really was really a blessing,
- 8:12Speaker 1: really blessing. It was you know, you have to get
- 8:17Speaker 1: to a place where and I say it all the time,
- 8:19Speaker 1: you turn your pity party into this planning party. You know,
- 8:22Speaker 1: you're praying, you're planning, you're wondering. You know, Yes, there
- 8:25Speaker 1: were some external things I could not control that that,
- 8:28Speaker 1: you know, with the market crashing and all those different things.
- 8:30Speaker 1: But however, I said, there there's something that I didn't know.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And I'm a true believer that wealth is on the
- 8:37Speaker 1: other side of what you do not know. And so
- 8:40Speaker 1: there was information that I was laughing. And so I
- 8:42Speaker 1: would spend so much of my time my husband and I,
- 8:46Speaker 1: our dates began coffee at the book store. You know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I would be in the bookstore just reading books on business,
- 8:53Speaker 1: reading books on um e commerce, reading books on social media.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Because all of these things were changing. Technology was was
- 9:02Speaker 1: really come into a whole new place, and so I
- 9:06Speaker 1: took all that information and I began to apply different
- 9:09Speaker 1: things in my life. And and then as my clientele
- 9:13Speaker 1: started to shift and grow and I closed the salon
- 9:16Speaker 1: everything because of reality TV show, because of you know,
- 9:20Speaker 1: it was popping. People were like yeah, and show travel.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It started to shift the way I did business, and
- 9:27Speaker 1: I had to put it in a book to help
- 9:29Speaker 1: somebody else because those books helped me. Absolutely, Yeah, those
- 9:35Speaker 1: books helped me. So that's that's important. You say, that
- 9:38Speaker 1: because I always tell people on a regular basis that
- 9:40Speaker 1: education and knowledge is to derive from what you can
- 9:43Speaker 1: do for you next time. You guys, do your homework
- 9:45Speaker 1: to be success for In other words, if if you're
- 9:46Speaker 1: sitting around here waiting on the lottery, then that's not
- 9:49Speaker 1: gonna do. Everybody there, they're all winners in the lottery.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But if that's not what you're gonna do in regular basis, UH,
- 9:54Speaker 1: start reading my guests on the last he's the founder
- 9:58Speaker 1: of the CEO Chick Network. Uh. And she has a
- 10:02Speaker 1: very popular book. I called it popular because it's on
- 10:04Speaker 1: my show. Brand to Bucks. We've been right back, but
- 10:06Speaker 1: no nonsense guy to building a six figure income. I'm
- 10:09Speaker 1: gonna find out what does a six figure income for her?
- 10:12Speaker 1: That's gonna make me happy? Right back with more money
- 10:14Speaker 1: making conversations. I just for Sean mcdowald. You're listening to
- 10:23Speaker 1: money making conversation on the phone. Is uh branding? Extract
- 10:27Speaker 1: what it is branding? I wanted to see a couple
- 10:29Speaker 1: of words got called branding strategist extraordinaire. That's what I
- 10:34Speaker 1: wanted to say, is she's the definition of doing it
- 10:36Speaker 1: all with style. With over twenty years of experience. This
- 10:38Speaker 1: beauty and branding experts work and products have been featured
- 10:41Speaker 1: on network like Bravo, BT, NBC, CBS and more. She's
- 10:45Speaker 1: the founder of the CEO Chick Network and You're Beauty Expert.
- 10:49Speaker 1: She's also the author of a book that we were
- 10:51Speaker 1: talking about on the show and this break called Brand
- 10:53Speaker 1: to Bucks and a motivational speaker. Please welcome back to
- 10:56Speaker 1: the show, Colleen or Tarrell. Yes there, you got to
- 11:02Speaker 1: get it right. I'm from non from Houston, Texas. Well,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I messed up so much stuff before I get it
- 11:06Speaker 1: right now. Brand to Bucks a no nonsense, no nonsense
- 11:10Speaker 1: guide to building a six figure brand. What does that mean? Yes, yes,
- 11:16Speaker 1: you know. It means being able to monetize your brand,
- 11:22Speaker 1: being able to monetize your gifts and your talents. You
- 11:25Speaker 1: can have a brand and not have a business. Yes,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you can have a business and I have a brand.
- 11:32Speaker 1: And so it really means being able to set up
- 11:36Speaker 1: a system. I talk about it in the book as
- 11:38Speaker 1: you have read, and it just talks about being able
- 11:41Speaker 1: to create a brand first of all that people desire,
- 11:44Speaker 1: that people are attracted to, um filling a need, you know,
- 11:49Speaker 1: and then building a system around it. You know, there's
- 11:53Speaker 1: so many different ways you can make money. I myself
- 11:55Speaker 1: propris I do several things. There's low hanging through, there's
- 12:00Speaker 1: digital product there, there's products that go where you don't
- 12:03Speaker 1: you know, and you can't. So that's important to be
- 12:06Speaker 1: able to have something that you can ship to people.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It means having something they can download. It means uh
- 12:12Speaker 1: for me. The membership you mentioned ceo Chicks, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: that's my paying membership site where people are going for information,
- 12:21Speaker 1: for community, for to be able to network. There's higher
- 12:25Speaker 1: packages where if they want to hire me for branding
- 12:28Speaker 1: more one on one time, a high touch product to
- 12:31Speaker 1: a low touch product. So there's so many ways to
- 12:34Speaker 1: make money. There is no shortage, you know, I I
- 12:39Speaker 1: that at that. Yeah, I know I brought you off
- 12:42Speaker 1: for brand to Bucks. But the the ceo Chicks Network
- 12:45Speaker 1: really called my eye because it's an interactive mastermind group
- 12:48Speaker 1: of established and expiring women entrepreneurs. And today is what
- 12:53Speaker 1: entrepreneur day for women, right, So there's a perfect, perfect,
- 12:56Speaker 1: you know, perfect segway to you know, your CEO Chick
- 13:00Speaker 1: Network tell us about that. Because there's a there's a
- 13:03Speaker 1: is there a monthly fee or there a fee to join,
- 13:05Speaker 1: and what do the advantages and what do they gain
- 13:07Speaker 1: if they become a member? Because I want to get
- 13:09Speaker 1: a banner so I can promote that for you. Oh man,
- 13:12Speaker 1: I would love that. Yes, the CEO chicks is It's
- 13:16Speaker 1: where it said, it's about community. We get together, we collaborate,
- 13:20Speaker 1: we create, and we dominate. That's our mantra is that
- 13:23Speaker 1: we have to get out here and we have to
- 13:26Speaker 1: create jobs. We are the ones to create the change
- 13:28Speaker 1: we want to see in our communities. And uh so
- 13:31Speaker 1: we have a lineup of amazing coaches. Christina A Bull,
- 13:35Speaker 1: my financial advisor overseas more than uh fifty million dollars plus.
- 13:40Speaker 1: She's also over diversity and inclusion for Edward Jones here
- 13:44Speaker 1: in Central Florida. UM Jennifer Enders, she's corporate sales. She
- 13:49Speaker 1: oversees high high seven plus figures beyond. For Amex, she's
- 13:54Speaker 1: our corporate chick. She helps CEO understand how to build
- 13:58Speaker 1: structure and to create eight you know, a legit organization
- 14:03Speaker 1: because as I said before, you can have a brand
- 14:05Speaker 1: and out of business and we see it way too often.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And we have a mental coach we have she's a
- 14:12Speaker 1: licensed mental therapist and she's all about wellness, teaching our
- 14:16Speaker 1: ladies how to handle the stress that comes with success.
- 14:20Speaker 1: And that's a whole another conversation as as how do I,
- 14:25Speaker 1: how do I find it and what is the steps
- 14:27Speaker 1: walking me through the steps of having a part of
- 14:29Speaker 1: this CEO chick net. Absolutely, you go to the website
- 14:35Speaker 1: ceo Chicks online dot com, you would click join, you
- 14:38Speaker 1: would select the package that best fits you. There are
- 14:41Speaker 1: three of them right now. It's annual. It's an annual fee.
- 14:45Speaker 1: From there, you'll decide and it has it all written out.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Whether you are looking for more one on one coach
- 14:50Speaker 1: and whether you're just looking for community. It's all listed there.
- 14:54Speaker 1: We are huge and supporting other female entrepreneurs and we engage.
- 14:58Speaker 1: We engage online. Every week. We have a class that
- 15:01Speaker 1: we you know, you're able to log on into the
- 15:03Speaker 1: webinar one of our coaches are teaching. We have different guests.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Um next week we're gonna have Clarinda McGrady with us.
- 15:10Speaker 1: We're we have Jay Bowland. We were on with Jay Bowling.
- 15:13Speaker 1: He's gonna be at our conference, uh Celebrity Styles. Jay
- 15:16Speaker 1: Bowling will be with us in March at our conference
- 15:19Speaker 1: so it's just bringing the goods. It's it's no hype
- 15:22Speaker 1: and all. How to we need to see fruit, We
- 15:26Speaker 1: need to we need to grow our businesses. We we
- 15:28Speaker 1: can't just rely on government. We can't rely on you know,
- 15:32Speaker 1: some some single women and they're not relying on the man.
- 15:34Speaker 1: They're not gold diggers. They they're gonna we gotta figure
- 15:37Speaker 1: this thing out, you know. So that's that's one of
- 15:41Speaker 1: four hours of the day. Is there a time where
- 15:44Speaker 1: uh did you guys respond? How does that work? And
- 15:47Speaker 1: that because its own line and you go it's digital,
- 15:50Speaker 1: So how does it work as far as responsive or
- 15:53Speaker 1: do you have said events weekly or said days that
- 15:56Speaker 1: you do any live broadcast a little bit more deep? Great? Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 1: great question. Yes, we go live every Monday and we
- 16:05Speaker 1: have a private group at nine pm. We go live
- 16:08Speaker 1: every Eastern Standard time. We go live Monday. I need
- 16:11Speaker 1: a banner. I need a banner from Monday so I
- 16:13Speaker 1: can go live with you. Tell my fans. Okay, absolutely,
- 16:17Speaker 1: So I'm working with you. I'm working with your CEO, CEO.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'm working with you. Now. These are for these are
- 16:24Speaker 1: for the members. Yet we do have some courses that
- 16:26Speaker 1: are free for no, no, what I'm saying is that
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know, I will promote it that but they gotta
- 16:32Speaker 1: pay now, you know, I'm saying, they will go to
- 16:34Speaker 1: the website you're interested, go here. And it started this
- 16:36Speaker 1: and I promoted a couple of times, so people get
- 16:38Speaker 1: understanding that there's something you used to be based. So
- 16:40Speaker 1: create the banner for me. I wouldn't be creating and
- 16:43Speaker 1: tell me how you wanted to market. It's your brand.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I'm trying to just you know how to do that.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You go every Monday, we we go live. We're doing
- 16:54Speaker 1: some great, great things, and I'll make sure you have
- 16:56Speaker 1: the banner of the information. We have special guests with us.
- 16:59Speaker 1: You have to join us so you can speak to
- 17:01Speaker 1: the ladies. It's it's just a great, great thing. It's
- 17:04Speaker 1: I'm after quality over quantity, over women that that know
- 17:08Speaker 1: how to get together, collaborate and dominate. I love that.
- 17:12Speaker 1: So let's go back to the book because I wanted
- 17:14Speaker 1: to just talk about that because I felt it was important,
- 17:16Speaker 1: because it was live, it was an engagement and your
- 17:18Speaker 1: your your energy person, and because of the fact that
- 17:22Speaker 1: that's what I'm happy to have you on my show
- 17:23Speaker 1: and I definitely want to bring you back if your
- 17:25Speaker 1: time permits, because I feel that it's like I said,
- 17:28Speaker 1: it's about the brand is by messaging, is by magnetism,
- 17:31Speaker 1: which I word I took from her book, and and
- 17:37Speaker 1: it's really important that we understand the value of consistency.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And that was one of the things I took from
- 17:42Speaker 1: the book too, is that you know, if you want
- 17:44Speaker 1: to have a brand, you're gonna have all these elements
- 17:46Speaker 1: of success. Then you're one of the things that is
- 17:48Speaker 1: most important is being consistent with your messaging. And I
- 17:52Speaker 1: had to find out about myself and started to find
- 17:54Speaker 1: who Rashan McDonald is. And that's what you're saying about yourself,
- 17:58Speaker 1: is that you know, Rashan, who you are is equally
- 18:01Speaker 1: important as what people know about you. And if they
