- 0:46Speaker 1: He's newby life, like I've stated, builder Mike Jackson. They're
- 0:50Speaker 1: based in Atlanta. If you can be a dreamer and
- 0:52Speaker 1: you want to dream about it your home or your fantasy,

- 0:59Speaker 1: Mike will build it. That's a slogan, not buying.
- 1:02Speaker 2: That's theirs.
- 1:03Speaker 1: They know plenty by juggling the booming property business, pleasing clients,
- 1:06Speaker 1: managing their home and raising three daughters. And they are
- 1:09Speaker 1: beautiful dollars, so precious, especially the young one when he
- 1:12Speaker 1: had when you have this one scene when he walking
- 1:14Speaker 1: around with a pamp on.
- 1:15Speaker 2: His head, You're gonna love him.
- 1:18Speaker 1: They make it look effortless and fun in an HGTV
- 1:21Speaker 1: series Marriage to Real Estate. You can also catch Egypt
- 1:23Speaker 1: and Mike's guest judges in the last season of HGTV's
- 1:26Speaker 1: mega hit home renovation competition series Rock the Block, where
- 1:30Speaker 1: you see four competing teams. We're looking at the renovation.
- 1:33Speaker 3: King and Queen King and Queen of AHG TV. We
- 1:38Speaker 3: claim and thank you for Sean. We appreciate that love.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And you are absolutely right. I've been around you and
- 1:45Speaker 3: I we know each other quite well.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Absolutely, but it's a good but you know something each
- 1:49Speaker 1: it's a good been around because all the time I've
- 1:52Speaker 1: always seen you. First of all, your personality has been positive.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And one thing I've loved about her, Mike, is that
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know opportunities. She's not She's fearless because that's what
- 2:01Speaker 1: a lot of people do. Because met her in radio
- 2:05Speaker 1: and so when some people start saying I want to
- 2:07Speaker 1: do something else. They can get so locked and comfortable,
- 2:12Speaker 1: they don't do it, and so and so, so many
- 2:14Speaker 1: different levels and so and that was that was that
- 2:16Speaker 1: was urban radio that she was in, Okay, and then
- 2:19Speaker 1: she can't Now she's coming into another area of I
- 2:24Speaker 1: want to say, just there's not we don't see many
- 2:26Speaker 1: black people, won't see so many people of color like
- 2:28Speaker 1: you too. That's why it's so refreshing to see that.
- 2:31Speaker 1: And I like to believe this is something we're going
- 2:33Speaker 1: to see on the regular basis. But and seeing the
- 2:35Speaker 1: first two episodes of your new series, Marriage to Real Estate,
- 2:39Speaker 1: I found a family environment that I was engaged with.
- 2:43Speaker 1: But more importantly, this is what y'all do. I never
- 2:47Speaker 1: questioned that you guys who are prop I never caught
- 2:50Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying that that's what can happen. You know,
- 2:52Speaker 1: they get a cute couple like you guys, you got
- 2:54Speaker 1: the cute little children. You know, they say, y'all be
- 2:57Speaker 1: a great TV show. It's no doubt in my mind
- 3:01Speaker 1: this is what y'all do. But each I have to
- 3:03Speaker 1: go back to this because you know, this is I
- 3:06Speaker 1: call this my masterclass series. Because you're talking about people
- 3:10Speaker 1: in a market. Now, we all know it's hard to
- 3:12Speaker 1: get a home out that nowadays. Okay, it's sometimes thirty
- 3:16Speaker 1: people waiting on the same building and trying to call
- 3:18Speaker 1: their home. How did y'all how did y'all? How were
- 3:21Speaker 1: y'all able to do a series and this type of
- 3:23Speaker 1: real estate boom where homes are scarce and people is
- 3:27Speaker 1: trying to make a decision on different properties while you're
- 3:30Speaker 1: doing the show.
- 3:32Speaker 3: So, Ri Sean, you know, I'm a real estate broker.
- 3:35Speaker 3: It's what I've done for, you know, twenty years. And
- 3:38Speaker 3: that also means that I've lived through and strived through
- 3:42Speaker 3: and grew through every real estate environment. You know, when
- 3:46Speaker 3: the bubble burst and you know, people were losing their
- 3:48Speaker 3: houses and needed to be saved with short you know,
- 3:51Speaker 3: from foreclosures with short sales. I coached them through it
- 3:54Speaker 3: and help clients through that. Now we're in an environment
- 3:57Speaker 3: where first time home buyers are being edged how completely.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Even experienced home buyers are like one of thirty different
- 4:04Speaker 3: offers and listenings are going for fifty sixty seventy thousand
- 4:08Speaker 3: over ass in price. I mean, it's crazy out here
- 4:11Speaker 3: right now, but I think that this is what I've
- 4:14Speaker 3: been built for. If that makes sense, all these years
- 4:17Speaker 3: of working through living, through existing, through buying, through renovating,
- 4:21Speaker 3: through in our own lives has prepared us for this
- 4:24Speaker 3: moment where we can help our clients through and there.
- 4:27Speaker 3: If I told you the hows and would, I would
- 4:30Speaker 3: be giving away all my tricks of the trade when
- 4:33Speaker 3: I go up against other offers. So I won't go there.
- 4:36Speaker 3: But what I will say is stay encouraged. And if
- 4:40Speaker 3: you're in the market to buy a home, make sure
- 4:43Speaker 3: all real estate agents were not created equal. They were not.
- 4:47Speaker 3: You take a class, you get a license if you
- 4:49Speaker 3: pass the test. But what you want is a seasoned,
- 4:52Speaker 3: experience shown and proven real estate professional who can coach
- 4:56Speaker 3: you and come up with a strategy to help you,
- 4:58Speaker 3: you know, get successfully to the line.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Great now, Mike, you know when I google Egypt, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 1: a lot of things pop up. Pictures, photos, she's posing
- 5:06Speaker 1: this way, posing this way, television show, television show. You know,
- 5:09Speaker 1: it's just a background into entertainment. You this business or
- 5:13Speaker 1: I just see a reference to a business. Give us
- 5:16Speaker 1: a little background on your journey into a home building,
- 5:20Speaker 1: renovations and in this market, and so we can get
- 5:23Speaker 1: assist your culture and your expertise.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Definitely. Definitely.
- 5:28Speaker 4: So I've been in construction, I want to say since
- 5:31Speaker 4: I was a kid.
- 5:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:33Speaker 4: I started with my uncle and my grandfather. They had
- 5:35Speaker 4: a construction company, would and they would always bring me
- 5:37Speaker 4: along future forward. I started with the local twenty eight
- 5:43Speaker 4: trade in New York City where I was a journeysman
- 5:46Speaker 4: for sheet metalwork, right, and then I transitioned into owning
- 5:50Speaker 4: my own company, which is Jackson Draper Renovations, where we
- 5:53Speaker 4: pretty much do it all carpentry, plumbing, electricity, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 4: exterior work, all of the above. It's myself and my uncle,
- 6:02Speaker 4: my partner, which is you'll see him on the show
- 6:04Speaker 4: as well.
- 6:04Speaker 2: His name is Mark.
- 6:06Speaker 4: And this is what I do. You know, my wife
- 6:09Speaker 4: and I were teaming up what you're seeing on the
- 6:10Speaker 4: show where we're trying to merge the two businesses under
- 6:14Speaker 4: one umbrella, you know, bring a real estate construction design.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah, one design house, one design house. But you gotta
- 6:20Speaker 3: you're gonna tell her. I don't think he knows the
- 6:23Speaker 3: full story that that's how we met.
- 6:25Speaker 2: It is how we met.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yes, thank you, thank you kept his brother out like
- 6:29Speaker 3: you do on the show. Anyway, he knew He's knew.
- 6:34Speaker 2: That.
- 6:34Speaker 4: It's not that I was trying not to take up
- 6:36Speaker 4: too much of the time.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I said, this is a masterclass we're teaching. We're educating
- 6:41Speaker 1: people about this beautiful couple.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Here's what was on my mind is why I didn't
- 6:46Speaker 4: want to talk to much about me, because I wanted
- 6:48Speaker 4: to piggyback off of the discussion you brought up in
- 6:50Speaker 4: the beginning. As far as we're not being feelless, she's
- 6:53Speaker 4: beyond that feelings. She's also selfless. Yes, she's the tipe
- 6:57Speaker 4: to where she doesn't worry about what every one else
- 7:00Speaker 4: is gonna think, despite of what it's cool or despite
- 7:02Speaker 4: what's hot at the moment, She's gonna do what's gonna
- 7:04Speaker 4: make sense for her and what is going to be
- 7:06Speaker 4: successful for those around her, meaning family. It's not about
- 7:10Speaker 4: the business or the hype of the business. It's about, Okay,
- 7:12Speaker 4: what's smart for the moment and what's going to make
- 7:15Speaker 4: sense in the future. So that's what I wanted to
- 7:17Speaker 4: touch on. That's why I can go to first much into.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Me than you.
- 7:22Speaker 4: But yes, we met in our early stages. I was
- 7:27Speaker 4: actually DJing and I still do periodically.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Tell you when I met you I was a radio DJ.
- 7:35Speaker 4: You know, we met in three separate incidents, but one
- 7:39Speaker 4: of them took us back to where I ended up
- 7:41Speaker 4: on a rooftop with her because she had her foot
- 7:43Speaker 4: miril stuck in the room, you know, the shelf, please.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Sean.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 7:57Speaker 3: So, so I was flipping houses in New Work, New
- 8:00Speaker 3: Jersey while I was a radio personality in New York City, right,
- 8:04Speaker 3: And I'm a scorpio. And what that kind of means
- 8:08Speaker 3: is if you back me into a corner, my stinger
- 8:10Speaker 3: comes up and sometimes it goes overwhel but not always
- 8:13Speaker 3: over overwhelmed in business, and so what happened was all
- 8:16Speaker 3: my contractors walked off the job. Wow, because I came
- 8:20Speaker 3: off way hard. It's hard to be a woman working
- 8:23Speaker 3: in construction as well. You know, men don't always take
- 8:26Speaker 3: that well. And so when you kind of come frock.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Also in that part of the country, I'm just really chauvinistic.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Well I can change for a fact, I've lived in
- 8:33Speaker 1: New York, I've lived all this country. It gets really
- 8:36Speaker 1: chauvinistic in that northeast part of the country, especially at
- 8:38Speaker 1: Jersey area, it does.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So they walked off the job, and I later found
- 8:43Speaker 3: myself trying to tar a hole in the roof by myself,
- 8:48Speaker 3: right and I fell through the roof, and in that
- 8:51Speaker 3: moment I realized that I needed some help. I called
- 8:54Speaker 3: my mentor at the time, who referred him oh guy, okay,
- 8:58Speaker 3: And when he pulled up, I'm like, what are you
- 9:00Speaker 3: doing here? You're a DJ.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That's funny, that's funny.
- 9:05Speaker 2: That's the rocky rooftop.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Baby, right right right, right, right right right, I'm a.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Moving walk all over this rooftop baby R word. I
- 9:15Speaker 3: didn't know he was. I didn't know he was really
- 9:18Speaker 3: also a businessman and he was a contractor. And you
- 9:21Speaker 3: know that that DJing was a facet of what he did,
- 9:24Speaker 3: but it wasn't all that all of who he was.
- 9:26Speaker 3: And we kind of fell in love over that renovation.
- 9:29Speaker 3: You saved my life.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You save a shoe for show. You saved a shoe
- 9:33Speaker 1: for show, for sure. You got that.
- 9:37Speaker 5: You know.
- 9:37Speaker 1: The interesting thing about and that I shouldn't even say interesting,
- 9:41Speaker 1: is that, you know, I tell everybody and when I
- 9:44Speaker 1: look at television now, television is so fun for a
- 9:47Speaker 1: person of color to me now, because I see us
- 9:50Speaker 1: on television on those stories, I see us some commercials,
- 9:55Speaker 1: inter racial commercials all it's all kinds of things that
- 9:58Speaker 1: really make you feel comfortable when you turn on the
- 10:01Speaker 1: TV and make you comfortable when you walk in the street. Okay,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I guess we're cool now in a way because you
- 10:05Speaker 1: can see me banking, me dating, me, having my Santa
- 10:10Speaker 1: Claus is black, all that good stuff. And so our
- 10:13Speaker 1: president was black yeahely so not vice president is black,
- 10:17Speaker 1: So you know, becomes a little normal. We know it's
- 10:20Speaker 1: not all normal. But then watching the show and seeing you, guys,
- 10:24Speaker 1: what do you think is the most magical thing about
- 10:27Speaker 1: you as a couple on TV talking to people, encouraging
- 10:32Speaker 1: them making life decisions and then showing them that this
- 10:36Speaker 1: is the best opportunity to move their life forward, sometimes
- 10:39Speaker 1: as a couple and sometimes as a family.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I think that for us, we have these conversations often,
- 10:46Speaker 3: right because as a black family, you know, on national
- 10:50Speaker 3: television where you're not just talking to an African American audience.
- 10:54Speaker 3: You know, questions come up even in advisory if you
- 10:57Speaker 3: know what I mean, You're you're an advisor as well.
- 10:59Speaker 3: With Sean, you know, an advisory it's you know, what
- 11:02Speaker 3: do we need to change? Anything to appeal to the masses.
- 11:05Speaker 3: And I think for us, the blessing in this entire
- 11:08Speaker 3: experience is no one has asked us to change a
- 11:11Speaker 3: thing Like I was on the Today Show in Dreadlocks.
- 11:14Speaker 3: You know what I mean. I there, Goddess lock, But
- 11:21Speaker 3: no Monday when I think about it, like Monday, I
- 11:24Speaker 3: shot a commercial, a commercial for the International Excuse me,
- 11:28Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I shot a commercial for the Intercontinental Exchange
- 11:33Speaker 3: for Ice stock market, and no one asked me to
- 11:36Speaker 3: tone down anything like no attitude, no blackness, no nothing
- 11:41Speaker 3: on our show. That's very much who we are and
- 11:43Speaker 3: our network HGTV loves it.
- 11:47Speaker 5: Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
- 11:50Speaker 5: money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the money Making
- 11:57Speaker 5: Conversations master Class, hosted I Rashan MacDonald. Money Making Conversations
- 12:02Speaker 5: Masterclass continues online at Moneymakingconversations dot com and follow money
- 12:08Speaker 5: Making Conversations Masterclass on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yeah like we want, we want y'all just as you are.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I think that that is a blessing in it and
- 12:19Speaker 3: just this whole experience our show, the idea that you know,
- 12:22Speaker 3: we are black family successful. You know, we have beautiful children,
- 12:25Speaker 3: who are sweet, who are educated. We're together. We you know,
- 12:29Speaker 3: we're married. We don't have a broken home, which is
- 12:32Speaker 3: what people stereotypically expect. We don't fight. There's no drama
- 12:37Speaker 3: or gossip out there about us and you know, cheating
- 12:40Speaker 3: and all this. Non people kind of expect that when
- 12:43Speaker 3: they see African American families on TV that there's going
- 12:46Speaker 3: to come a whole bag of tricks with it. And
- 12:49Speaker 3: the blessing in this experience, not only that we get
- 12:52Speaker 3: to do it together, is that there's no drama, and
- 12:54Speaker 3: so we're showing we can do it too. We are
- 12:56Speaker 3: doing it too. We've always been here. Thank god, you're
- 13:00Speaker 3: just noticing it.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Hey, Mike, I want to say this shed. She tries
- 13:05Speaker 1: to set you up a couple of times, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: when she comes in the room ask you just look baby,
- 13:10Speaker 1: how does this look?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Baby?
- 13:11Speaker 1: And then she references, oh, you trying to say something
- 13:13Speaker 1: about my wig. I said, oh, no, you trying to
- 13:16Speaker 1: set my boy up.
- 13:17Speaker 3: No, Mike, come on, byke, try to set you up.
- 13:22Speaker 4: So, but to feedback over that as well as and
- 13:24Speaker 4: answer your question with the magic part, I think the
- 13:26Speaker 4: magic in it is that we are really doing the
- 13:29Speaker 4: work right, don't step in and then say cut okay,
- 13:33Speaker 4: somebody else come and do this. Yes, you be a couple,
- 13:37Speaker 4: not just a black couple, a couple that is universally
- 13:40Speaker 4: appealing to the masses.
- 13:41Speaker 5: Right.
- 13:42Speaker 2: It's positive.
- 13:43Speaker 4: It's full of family, it's full of education, it's full of.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Information, right to where you can say.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Okay, I'm used to this. This sounds familiar, This looks familiar.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I'm tuning in.
- 13:56Speaker 3: But I think what's what it's good too, is you
- 13:58Speaker 3: also see a little bit of our mess. You know,
- 14:00Speaker 3: you can tell me drive my husband crazy.
- 14:05Speaker 4: To see Egypt.
- 14:07Speaker 3: What you ain't gonna do with my boy?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Mike?
- 14:08Speaker 1: He my boy, now my boy. Like I said, I
- 14:11Speaker 1: just showed y'all two examples when you trying to set
- 14:13Speaker 1: them up. You know what I'm saying, you know, talking
- 14:15Speaker 1: about you, baby, I think I'm eating too much. Now,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I think I've eaten too much?
- 14:20Speaker 5: Baby?
- 14:20Speaker 3: What you think?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Uh, I'm not answering that question on TV. No, you
- 14:24Speaker 1: ain't doing me like that, honey. You know, that's the
- 14:27Speaker 1: fun part of what I'm talking about, this relationship, because
- 14:30Speaker 1: that's what I do it my life, you know, because
- 14:32Speaker 1: but it's captured on film organically, and I'm gonna be
- 14:35Speaker 1: real about it.
- 14:35Speaker 3: It ain't even by race now, it's about.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Joining a couple. And that gives me information because I
- 14:42Speaker 1: watch these shows. These are the type of shows that
- 14:44Speaker 1: will be running where you're the car dealership, sitting there
- 14:47Speaker 1: waiting on your car, these type of call these type
- 14:49Speaker 1: of shows that are running when you're waiting in the
- 14:51Speaker 1: hospital lobby, these type of shows that are just running.
- 14:54Speaker 1: They're so comfortable because they're so informative. And that's the
- 14:58Speaker 1: part of it that I love, because I love that
- 15:00Speaker 1: part where you know you. You walk them through the house,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you know you, and that's the part where you know
- 15:05Speaker 1: if people know what they're talking about when you because
- 15:08Speaker 1: people people really you know you're about to they about
- 15:10Speaker 1: to give their life to you. And in some of
- 15:12Speaker 1: these houses that you're walking in, you can't be so
- 15:15Speaker 1: forceful that you feel like this is it a yaut
- 15:18Speaker 1: But that walks through that whole part of creating that
- 15:21Speaker 1: organic relationship. Mike as a builder, because she's the face
- 15:26Speaker 1: of the she's the dreamer, but you have to put
- 15:28Speaker 1: it together and then she comes in and she a
- 15:31Speaker 1: change on you. Well, I didn't want it like that.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I mean, like, come on, Ben, don't do Mike like
- 15:36Speaker 1: that on film. Don't do it like that on film.
- 15:38Speaker 3: But he laughs at all.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I loved I loved it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I loved it when the floor was gold and the
- 15:47Speaker 1: other floor was brown. On the floor was just you go,
- 15:50Speaker 1: oh baby, where I got you? I got you? And
- 15:52Speaker 1: she walked with, Okay, I'll be back walking walking walking
- 15:58Speaker 1: into I'm gonna just tell you a couple of thing
- 16:00Speaker 1: that really messed him up.
- 16:01Speaker 3: She on the construction site, y'all.
- 16:03Speaker 1: She walking there with heels on, open.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Toes, open toes, open toes here because Mike said, remember Mike,
- 16:15Speaker 3: my day, I might be with my real estate clients.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I still need to look professional. They don't understand me
- 16:21Speaker 3: coming in and work though.
- 16:23Speaker 4: In the car talking to talk to me, Mike, talk
- 16:26Speaker 4: to me.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Mike said, you step on the nail.
- 16:29Speaker 5: You just step on the nail.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Shohn.
- 16:31Speaker 3: I thought, I thought me and you were a friend.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Now you're taking hitside.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Because you know the thing about it is that you
- 16:37Speaker 1: know in these shows, because you know, like I said,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I I love the fact that the potential of who
- 16:44Speaker 1: y'all are to me. I'm comfortable. I want to watch.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I want to learn.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I want to say, can I get that? Can I
- 16:50Speaker 1: get them to do that to my house?
- 16:53Speaker 2: That's what I know.
- 16:53Speaker 1: It's special because I'm going like, because you know, I've
- 16:58Speaker 1: done a lot of remodeling. You know how people come
- 17:00Speaker 1: going so how they pulling that off and it looks
- 17:03Speaker 1: so beautiful. But again, like I was saying, Mike, you
- 17:06Speaker 1: are the builder. You know, she comes up.
- 17:08Speaker 3: With these pricings.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Well, we can only do it for one hundred thousand.
- 17:12Speaker 5: We can all do it.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And they don't know that the gas meters sitting over
- 17:16Speaker 1: there where the window gonna be, you know what I'm saying.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Don't know that though, you know, but she's gonna tell
- 17:20Speaker 1: everybody we're gonna put a window there. You got to
- 17:22Speaker 1: come in and go, hey baby, it's a gas metering there.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Oh oh, we'll take care, honey, I love you, smooches.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 5: You know.
- 17:34Speaker 4: She'll give them the division, your sir, and then I
- 17:39Speaker 4: will uh you know, softly bring it back down to reality,
- 17:42Speaker 4: make them feel comfortable, allow them to trust me, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 4: one with smart decisions, showing them how we can get
- 17:50Speaker 4: there if for some reason they can't afford how we
- 17:52Speaker 4: can get there doing for less, but by doing different options, right.
- 17:57Speaker 4: I think it's all about listening and letting them speak
- 17:59Speaker 4: and let him be heard, allowing them to let you
- 18:02Speaker 4: know exactly what they want, and then you coming in
- 18:05Speaker 4: and making it feel relatable.
- 18:08Speaker 3: You know, Sean, what I love about this man and
- 18:10Speaker 3: why this works is because he lets me be me.
- 18:14Speaker 3: He knows that you're right. I'm a dreamer, I'm a visionary.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I'm going to show everything in its purest potential, and
- 18:23Speaker 3: he'll let me live that out right, and then he'll
- 18:26Speaker 3: humbly bring everybody back down to earth in everything that
- 18:32Speaker 3: he does. He even I get carsick, you know, so
- 18:37Speaker 3: I have to drive, and that's when when anybody's driving.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Even if someone says a car with a driver for me,
- 18:43Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't know if I want I want
- 18:45Speaker 3: to drive because I get really carsick. You know, a
- 18:47Speaker 3: lot of man Raseean wouldn't be comfortable with their wife
- 18:51Speaker 3: behind the wheel, if you know what I mean. So
- 18:55Speaker 3: on for seventeen and a half years, he'll sit in
- 18:58Speaker 3: the passenger seat and let me drive and be okay
- 19:02Speaker 3: with that, you know, And he's still the lead. He
- 19:04Speaker 3: still leaves our family.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Even though I got my foot on that second break.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, absolutely absolutely worried about that seven year itch.
- 19:13Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, that seven year itch. You
- 19:15Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But you know, the beauty of
- 19:18Speaker 1: our if we go through the episodes, you don't do
- 19:20Speaker 1: this show alone. You have three wonderful children. They're girls,
- 19:24Speaker 1: They're a part of the show. Andre's part of the show.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Like say, y'all was part of the show. Talk about
- 19:28Speaker 1: the overall casting and the need to organically, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 1: introduce your family. And like I said, I've almost told
- 19:34Speaker 1: the first two episodes, so more people are going to
- 19:37Speaker 1: be introduced. What was the whole theory behind the introduction?
- 19:40Speaker 1: Are you trying to just let everybody know this is us?
- 19:44Speaker 1: Or what was the whole background behind that whole process.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I think people had to kind of get to know
- 19:50Speaker 3: us first, right, who Egypt is, who Mike is, who
- 19:53Speaker 3: we are as a couple, who we are as a
- 19:54Speaker 3: family with our children. But really for our businesses to work,
- 19:59Speaker 3: we could never do alone. We got a whole army
- 20:01Speaker 3: behind us, and we want people to embrace them as well,
- 20:05Speaker 3: normally with normalcy. So you know, we kind of got
- 20:08Speaker 3: to ease him in. Let you, let you learn everybody.
- 20:10Speaker 3: So Andre is a designer friend of mine. He's super talented.
- 20:15Speaker 3: He's done some of the biggest design houses in Atlanta
- 20:17Speaker 3: and all over the country. But but really, when everything's
- 20:21Speaker 3: off and we let our hair down, he's one of
- 20:23Speaker 3: my best friends. So he's the person that I call
- 20:26Speaker 3: if I'm like, I can't figure out this room. I
- 20:29Speaker 3: need some input, right And when I'm I'm doing my
- 20:34Speaker 3: my child's room, it's like I want, I need second eyes.
- 20:36Speaker 3: But Mike can't stand it.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Whenever my phone is dinging from my bank notifications.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Andre has very high elite taste. You know, I do
- 20:46Speaker 3: everything kind of on a budget on my own. But
- 20:48Speaker 3: when he comes in, the price triples. So Mike's I
- 20:52Speaker 3: love you, but you gotta go bro.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Absolutely, but let's let's talk about the price and all that,
- 20:56Speaker 1: because you know this is we're not telling about this series.
- 20:59Speaker 1: But that's that's that's what the experience comes in. That's
- 21:01Speaker 1: when to walk into a property and give an estimate
- 21:04Speaker 1: of what it's going to take to get there. And Mike,
- 21:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to you as a builder, as a
- 21:09Speaker 1: person who really is the nuts and boats of renovation.
- 21:13Speaker 1: How does that process work for you that you trust
- 21:16Speaker 1: your natural instincts or do you have a roller dex?
- 21:19Speaker 1: Did you just go you fall back on to be
- 21:22Speaker 1: able to make sure that you hit that number.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Yeah, well a lot of relationships for one, with subs,
- 21:30Speaker 4: with a lot of big box stores, with a lot
- 21:33Speaker 4: of friends, you know, So those relationships, I keep those
- 21:36Speaker 4: in mind as I'm going through properties. But in this
- 21:38Speaker 4: day and age where wood and materials are fluctuating in
- 21:42Speaker 4: price and sometimes overpriced, I have to get creative, you know,
- 21:46Speaker 4: where we go to refurbished properties or refurbished warehouses and
- 21:50Speaker 4: use materials or I use things that I may have
- 21:53Speaker 4: in my warehouse you know. Yeah, we actually did that
- 21:57Speaker 4: on so many episodes, where we reuse things, repurpose them right.
- 22:01Speaker 2: And make them look updated. You know.
- 22:03Speaker 4: It's not always about let's let's demolish this and make
- 22:06Speaker 4: a great scene. It's about let's do the smart decisions
- 22:09Speaker 4: that's going to make sense so we can hit that target.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Yeah, but we're shot. Sometimes we got to give the
- 22:14Speaker 3: bad news, you know, and the bad news is this
- 22:17Speaker 3: is your budget, but we just can't do it for
- 22:19Speaker 3: that budget because the reality is stuffs out to stop.
- 22:22Speaker 3: You know, it may costs forty percent more than what
- 22:24Speaker 3: it would have cost last year or six six months ago.
- 22:27Speaker 3: That's when I let him give the bad news.
- 22:29Speaker 4: So material not really have materials went up, but the
- 22:32Speaker 4: price of laborers went up as well. Right, So people
- 22:35Speaker 4: are extremely shocked by pricing. So some of some of
- 22:38Speaker 4: my clients that booked our company, they are now calling
- 22:42Speaker 4: and getting sideswiped. You know, Sotory at.
- 22:47Speaker 1: This moment, Well, we're talking to Egypt Shirod she's the queen,
- 22:52Speaker 1: and Mike Jackson he's the king, and you're married to
- 22:55Speaker 1: real estate is an exciting show. It's a show. The
- 22:57Speaker 1: reason I say it's exciting because they're refreshing, they're entertaining.
- 23:02Speaker 1: I want to invite them into my home. You will
- 23:05Speaker 1: invite them into your home. You know, No, Egypt Hurrah,
- 23:08Speaker 1: she is the experts, she's the queen. I've already respect
- 23:11Speaker 1: her my long This is just not being based on
- 23:13Speaker 1: my long time relationship. When I mentioned her name in
- 23:16Speaker 1: my house, my wife knew immediately who she was, and
- 23:20Speaker 1: that was to be a testament that my wife respects
- 23:23Speaker 1: you and wants to be excited about this. Venture for
- 23:26Speaker 1: you guys. More importantly, I just see a couple of
- 23:29Speaker 1: stars of TV that's gonna like take over the game.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And I'm gonna tell you something. I'm humble when I
- 23:34Speaker 1: say that because I'm blessed that I can say that.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I couldn't say this five years ago. That's how times
- 23:39Speaker 1: have changed. You guys are landing at the right time
- 23:43Speaker 1: on TV. It's nothing on that show that I was
- 23:46Speaker 1: not disappointed in. I was it was funny, it was organic,
- 23:50Speaker 1: it was natural. I felt like it was a couple
- 23:52Speaker 1: just happens to have a camera following them around on
- 23:56Speaker 1: a on a rebuild. That's all I saw.
- 24:00Speaker 3: That means a lot coming from Seawan. We know you
- 24:02Speaker 3: know talent. We know that you you know you've helped
- 24:05Speaker 3: mold talent as well. And I actually remember a conversation.
- 24:09Speaker 3: I don't know if you remember it, but I'm gonna
- 24:11Speaker 3: take you down memory lane just a little bit before
- 24:13Speaker 3: we go. I was working at WBLS in New York
- 24:16Speaker 3: City and I said with Sean, I got to keep
- 24:19Speaker 3: this on the down low, but I'm thinking about making
- 24:22Speaker 3: the move to Atlanta, right and I know that you're
- 24:26Speaker 3: in Atlanta. What do you think is that a good
- 24:28Speaker 3: move for me. And you said, come on, come over
- 24:30Speaker 3: here to my office, which by the way, happened to
- 24:32Speaker 3: be like a little production clot at that moment, that moment,
- 24:37Speaker 3: and you sat me down and you said, listen, this
- 24:38Speaker 3: is the deal. Atlanta is for big dogs. Everybody's a
- 24:43Speaker 3: star in Atlanta. Everybody's got something going on in Atlanta.
- 24:46Speaker 2: You got some.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Incredible young black entrepreneurs there. And so if you're coming Atlanta,
- 24:51Speaker 3: you got to have your stuff together. So you get
- 24:52Speaker 3: your game plan first and then you work you plan.
- 24:55Speaker 3: I don't know if you if you remember this conversation,
- 24:58Speaker 3: but it sticks out to me because moving here from
- 25:01Speaker 3: New York after cementing myself as a radio personality there
- 25:05Speaker 3: for many years, was a big, bold move and it
- 25:08Speaker 3: was you know, it took a lot of you know,
- 25:11Speaker 3: it took a lot of guts, and you know, for
- 25:12Speaker 3: us to just say we're gonna take a chance and
- 25:15Speaker 3: bet on ourselves and rebuild in an entirely different city
- 25:19Speaker 3: where we didn't know anybody, and it was Egypt.
- 25:21Speaker 1: And I had several great conversations because you know, she
- 25:24Speaker 1: followed us Steve Harvey, now, you know, and so we
- 25:27Speaker 1: was always talking about radies. I always talked about women,
- 25:29Speaker 1: always talking about but one thing I did like about
- 25:32Speaker 1: us she always had multiple streams of income. Yeah, see
- 25:36Speaker 1: right there, she was my friend because that's important in
- 25:41Speaker 1: today's society to be able to wake up and realize
- 25:43Speaker 1: you have options. And when I sat down, I remember
- 25:45Speaker 1: that conversation because it's funny Egypt. I get that a
- 25:48Speaker 1: lot from people said, well S, you remember when you
- 25:49Speaker 1: told me this, And I have an honest side of
- 25:52Speaker 1: me that I'm gonna tell you.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Look, you need to stay up here.
- 25:55Speaker 3: This is it.
- 25:56Speaker 1: But I knew that she had a sense of a
- 26:00Speaker 1: gift to be able to do more. But if you
- 26:02Speaker 1: go down there, know what you're walking into because it's
- 26:06Speaker 1: going to happen. And guess what, everything's time right. It
- 26:10Speaker 1: is the new Hollywood.
- 26:11Speaker 4: You know, the.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Pricing is right. Y'all have a great show. I'm comfortable now.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I just got to get y'all come by my house
- 26:18Speaker 1: and remodel my backroing over there, so we don't talk
- 26:21Speaker 1: about that all fan, you know, just come there. I'm
- 26:22Speaker 1: just making sure y'all do Hey, I'm just making sure
- 26:26Speaker 1: you don't end zoom. You know, you know, you know
- 26:27Speaker 1: you're in these calls and then you go bye bye.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I said, oh oh, they say, ain't gonna give me
- 26:32Speaker 1: his numble?
- 26:36Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, No, no, no, no, but again.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Watch this show Married to Real Estate Stars of Egypt,
