Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest.
- 0:03Speaker 2: The movie industry might be having a bit of a
- 0:05Speaker 2: revival with a healthy box office across the summer, but
- 0:07Speaker 2: could the days of seeing a literal film be numbered?
- 0:10Speaker 2: The dailies reports at Kodak, the one hundred and thirty
- 0:13Speaker 2: three year old company it's been supplying a film to
- 0:15Speaker 2: the entertainment industry since well before Hollywood was even established,
- 0:19Speaker 2: is in severe debt and could be forced to close,
- 0:22Speaker 2: which is particularly significant because they're currently the primary supplier
- 0:25Speaker 2: of film for all movies still shot on it. Fujifilm,
- 0:28Speaker 2: Kodak's former primary competitor, shuttered in twenty thirteen, and if
- 0:32Speaker 2: Kodak were to go out of business, studios may no
- 0:34Speaker 2: longer be able to get their hands on movie film.
- 0:37Speaker 2: While the industry has shifted to digital cameras over the
- 0:39Speaker 2: past two decades, many filmmakers like Christopher Nolaner Tarantino, Ryan
- 0:43Speaker 2: Coogler still prefer real film. Simply put nothing rivals the
- 0:48Speaker 2: texture in the field a thirty five millimeter film, So
- 0:51Speaker 2: if Kodak closes, Hollywood will have to decide if they'll
- 0:54Speaker 2: manufacture films themselves or abandon it. The good news is
- 0:58Speaker 2: that Kodak is fairly confident they can crawl out of debt,
- 1:00Speaker 2: so hopefully film will continue to be projected in movie
- 1:03Speaker 2: theaters for a long time.
- 1:05Speaker 1: That's direct from Hollywood.
