- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Docs, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning and welcome to Connecting
- 0:17the Docs. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan. It is Tuesday,
- 0:20December 2nd, 2025. And here in Sacramento, we're
- 0:24looking at some patchy fog this morning, but
- 0:26that should burn off for a sunny high around
- 0:2957. A bit of a different story nationally, though.
- 0:31There's a winter storm hitting the northern mid
- 0:34-Atlantic and up into the northeast and some
- 0:37heady rain down in the southeast. So stay safe
- 0:39out there. Absolutely. Now, before we get into
- 0:42our main stories, let's take a quick look at
- 0:44the markets. Yeah, things are settling a little
- 0:47this morning after a really strong week. The
- 0:49Dow is down just a bit, about six tenths of a
- 0:52percent. But still holding on to some good weekly
- 0:54gains, right? Oh, absolutely. It's still up over
- 0:562 % for the week. The S &P 500 was, believe it
- 0:59or not, completely flat for the day. 0 .00 %
- 1:03change. Wow. But still looking solid with a weekly
- 1:06gain of 2 .65%. And what about Bitcoin? It's
- 1:10been on a tear. It really has. It jumped over
- 1:12two thousand dollars yesterday, which is a two
- 1:15point three eight percent pop. The upward trend
- 1:17is definitely continuing there. That is great
- 1:20to see. Now, before we jump into our morning
- 1:22star, we want to give a shout out to our sponsor.
- 1:25That's right. This hour is brought to you by
- 1:27Old Glory, the iconic music and sports fan merch
- 1:30store. They have some really great stuff. Perfect
- 1:32for holiday gifts, especially for that techie
- 1:35friend who. Let's be honest, probably has every
- 1:37gadget already. A classic gift for a futuristic
- 1:40friend. I like it. So if you head over to OldGlory
- 1:42.com, you can use the promo code SNARFUL. That's
- 1:46S -N -A -R -F -U -L for 15 % off your entire
- 1:51purchase. All right, let's get into it. We've
- 1:53got three big stories today really covering product,
- 1:56policy, and protection. And we're starting with
- 1:59a big one. The rumors are true. Samsung is officially
- 2:03launching a phone that folds three times. The
- 2:05Galaxy Z trifold is here. Yeah. Yes, a triple
- 2:09fold. It sounds like science fiction. It really
- 2:11does. I'm trying to even picture it. What does
- 2:13that look like when it's fully opened up? You're
- 2:15essentially looking at a tablet that's been crammed
- 2:17into a smartphone's body. It opens up to a full
- 2:2010 inch main display. 10 inches. That's huge.
- 2:23It is. And the key here is that it's an inward
- 2:26folding display. Samsung's trying to really protect
- 2:29those two very complicated hinges. Right, because
- 2:33the big issue with foldables has always been
- 2:35the bulk. I remember the original Z Fold from
- 2:382019. It felt like carrying two phones taped
- 2:40together. Yeah, it was a brick. So how did they
- 2:43solve for that, especially with another hinge?
- 2:45Well, that's really the most impressive part
- 2:46of this whole thing. When the tri -fold is completely
- 2:49collapsed, it's just... 12 .9 millimeters thick.
- 2:53Wait seriously the original was what 17? 17 .1
- 2:56so they've shaved over four millimeters off while
- 2:59doubling the folds and when it's unfolded at
- 3:01its thinnest point it's just 3 .9 millimeters.
- 3:05That's incredibly thin that suggests a complete
- 3:08redesign of the hinge. They must have moved to
- 3:11one of those water drop designs to get rid of
- 3:13the gap inside. Precisely. That's where all the
- 3:16material science genius comes in. And of course,
- 3:18to power a 10 -inch screen like that, you need
- 3:20some serious guts. What's it running on? It's
- 3:23got a custom Snapdragon 8 chip, a big 5 ,600
- 3:26milliamp -hour three -cell battery. Much bigger
- 3:29than previous volts. Much bigger. Plus 45 -watt
- 3:32super -fast charging. And yes, it has that flagship
- 3:35200 -megapixel wide -angle camera. OK, so it's
- 3:38a beast. Let's talk logistics. When can people
- 3:42actually buy this thing and what's the damage
- 3:44going to be? It's debuting in South Korea on
- 3:46December 12th. The price point is expected to
- 3:49be around $2 ,440. That's a hefty price tag.
- 3:53It is. And after South Korea, it'll roll out
- 3:56to China, Singapore, the UAE. But we have confirmation
- 4:00for the US in the first quarter of 2026. $2 ,400
- 4:04is a big ask. for a first -gen device like this.
- 4:08We all remember the, let's call them teething
- 4:10issues of early foldables. How is Samsung handling
- 4:14that risk? They're being really smart about it
- 4:16this time and pretty transparent. They're basically
- 4:18admitting that, you know, this is bleeding edge
- 4:20stuff and it carries risk. So what are they offering?
- 4:23Every person who buys a Z trifold gets a one
- 4:26-time 50 % discount on display repair costs.
- 4:28Oh, that's interesting. So instead of pretending
- 4:30it's indestructible, they're just building the
- 4:32potential for repair right into the deal. Exactly.
- 4:35It's their way of saying, look, we know you're
- 4:37taking the leap with us. We appreciate it. And
- 4:39we've got your back. It's a pretty necessary
- 4:42safety net when you're asking people to adopt
- 4:44something this complex. Yeah, that makes a lot
- 4:46of sense. OK, so from the high cost of new hardware,
- 4:50let's shift gears completely. Our second story
- 4:53is about, well, it's about financial access on
- 4:56a massive scale. This is a really historic and
- 4:59I think strategically timed philanthropic move.
- 5:04Michael and Susan Dell have pledged $6 .25 billion
- 5:08to seed investment accounts for 25 million American
- 5:12kids. Six and a quarter billion dollars. That's,
- 5:14that's more than just a donation. Sounds like
- 5:16they're trying to kickstart a whole policy. That's
- 5:18exactly what it is. The money is aimed at getting
- 5:21families to claim these new government -backed
- 5:23child savings accounts. They're formerly called
- 5:25Invest America accounts. Okay, so who exactly
- 5:28are the Dells targeting with this money? They're
- 5:30basically filling a gap. The official government
- 5:32program is set to launch next summer, and it
- 5:34gives $1 ,000 to kids born after January 1, 2025.
- 5:38So what about all the kids born before that?
- 5:40That's who the Dells are focused on. The 25 million
- 5:43kids born before 2025 who wouldn't get that seed
- 5:46money. The Dells are depositing $250 into accounts
- 5:50for those children. Got it. So they're trying
- 5:52to make sure basically every kid under 10 today
- 5:55gets to benefit from this. Is it for everyone?
- 5:58They're using some economic criteria. The money
- 6:00is directed to children living in ZIP codes where
- 6:03the median family income is $150 ,000 or less.
- 6:07OK, so it's targeted. So what's the big idea
- 6:10behind these invest America accounts? Why is
- 6:12this such a focus? Well, the whole concept is
- 6:15about long term compounding growth and frankly,
- 6:18financial literacy. The money is locked until
- 6:20the child turns 18. And it has to be invested.
- 6:23It has to be invested in a low cost index fund,
- 6:25letting it grow with the market for, you know,
- 6:27almost two decades. Then when the child turns
- 6:3018, they can use it for qualified expenses. Like
- 6:33what? College. Exactly. Higher education, a down
- 6:36payment on a first home, or even seed money to
- 6:39start a business. So the goal here is to give
- 6:41millions of people a real stake in the system,
- 6:44a system they might otherwise feel totally shut
- 6:47out of. That's the core of it. Michael Dell even
- 6:50said the goal is for kids to see a future worth
- 6:52saving for and to build hope and opportunity.
- 6:55And when you look at the data, I mean, in 2022,
- 6:58the wealthiest 1 % owned almost half of all stocks.
- 7:02Wow. And the bottom 50 % owned barely 1%. So
- 7:06this policy, supercharged by the Dell's money,
- 7:09is trying to democratize access to that wealth
- 7:11creation. And it's not just their personal money,
- 7:13right? Dell, the company is involved too. Correct.
- 7:16Dell Technologies is going to match the government's
- 7:19thousand -dollar investment for the children
- 7:21of its own employees. It's a really interesting
- 7:23model, marrying policy, philanthropy, and corporate
- 7:27incentives. That's an incredible story. Okay,
- 7:30let's let's pivot. Pretty sharply now to a very
- 7:33different kind of story. A reality check on personal
- 7:36security. Yeah, this is a deeply disturbing one,
- 7:38but it's a crucial warning. It's about a massive
- 7:41IP camera hacking scheme that was just exposed
- 7:43in South Korea. What are we talking about here?
- 7:46South Korean authorities have arrested four people
- 7:48who managed to hack into over 120 ,000 home and
- 7:52business IP cameras. 120 ,000? When you hear
- 7:56a number that big, you assume it must have been
- 7:59some kind of incredibly sophisticated zero day
- 8:02exploit. You'd think so, wouldn't you? But that's
- 8:04what is so frightening about this. The method
- 8:07was, I mean, it was just based on the vulnerability.
- 8:10The hackers were mostly just exploiting simple
- 8:13security flaws. The big one, people not changing
- 8:16the default password on their devices. You're
- 8:18kidding me. It was just default passwords. That
- 8:21was the main entry point. We are talking about
- 8:23a massive criminal operation that was enabled
- 8:26by the simplest possible oversight. That's horrifying.
- 8:29Where are these cameras located? In the most
- 8:31private places you can imagine. People's homes,
- 8:33of course, but also karaoke rooms, Pilates studios,
- 8:36and even a gynecologist's clinic. The invasion
- 8:39of privacy is just, it's staggering. And I assume
- 8:43the motivation was selling access to the footage.
- 8:45Yeah, it was for profit. One of the suspects
- 8:47made over $12 ,000 from hacking 63 ,000 cameras.
- 8:52Another made over $13 ,000 from 70 ,000 hacks.
- 8:55And they were selling these videos online? They
- 8:57were. These two individuals were responsible
- 9:00for over 60 % of the videos found on one illegal
- 9:03overseas distribution site. All from guessing
- 9:06admin and password. So for anyone listening right
- 9:10now who has a camera pointed at their front door
- 9:12or watching their living room, What is the one
- 9:15thing they need to do right now? The police warning
- 9:17is direct and it is urgent. You need to be vigilant
- 9:21and you need to immediately and regularly change
- 9:24the access passwords on your IP cameras and really
- 9:27on any connected smart device. It's just a harsh
- 9:29reminder that your security is only as strong
- 9:31as its weakest link. And that link is almost
- 9:34always a simple password. And the authorities
- 9:36are also stressing that just viewing or possessing
- 9:38this kind of illegal content is a serious crime
- 9:41itself. It all connects, doesn't it? The complexity
- 9:44of a trifold phone and the simplicity of a home
- 9:48camera. The human element, like choosing a good
- 9:51password, is the single biggest factor. It really
- 9:54is. Before we connect all those dots, let's quickly
- 9:56thank our second sponsor. We want to recognize
- 9:59Skony, the premium golf shoe store. If you're
- 10:02starting your holiday shopping for the golf enthusiast
- 10:04in your life, Skony is definitely the place you
- 10:06want to check out. They make fantastic, high
- 10:09-quality shoes. And you can use our promo code
- 10:11SNARFUL, that's S -N -A -R -F -U -L, at checkout
- 10:16for 15 % off your entire purchase. Just go to
- 10:19scony .com. Okay, so looking back at our Morningstar
- 10:22today, we really saw three powerful forces at
- 10:25play. We started with the physical limits of
- 10:27innovation. The Galaxy Z trifold, which is pushing
- 10:31what's possible with materials, but also asking
- 10:33us to accept a pretty high cost and a high risk.
- 10:36Then we saw the power of policy and private capital
- 10:38coming together to tackle a huge systemic challenge
- 10:41wealth inequality through the Dell family's commitment.
- 10:45It's about jumpstarting a financial future for
- 10:47millions of kids. And finally, we got that really
- 10:50sobering wake up call on cybersecurity from South
- 10:53Korea. A reminder that no matter how advanced
- 10:55the tech gets, it can all be undone by our own
- 10:59simple digital habits. Innovation, equity and
- 11:02protection. The three big themes. And it kind
- 11:05of leaves us with one question to think about.
- 11:07As technology gets exponentially more complex,
- 11:09you know, giving us triple fold phones and these
- 11:12huge new financial systems. Are we trading convenience
- 11:15for security? And is policy the only thing strong
- 11:18enough to make sure the benefits of all this
- 11:20complexity are actually shared by everyone? Something
- 11:22to think about as you go update those passwords
- 11:24today. We're here to help at Snarful, so reach
- 11:26out on our website if you have any more questions.
- 11:43Thanks for listening, and we'll catch you next
- 11:46time.
