- 0:00John chapter 20 Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene
- 0:03came early to the tomb while it was still dark, and saw the
- 0:07stone already taken away from the tomb.
- 0:09So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple
- 0:11whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken away the
- 0:14Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid
- 0:17him. So Peter and the other disciple
- 0:19went forth and they were going to the tomb.
- 0:21The two were running together, and the other disciple ran ahead
- 0:24faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first.
- 0:27And stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings lying
- 0:29there, but he did not go in. And so Simon Peter also came
- 0:33following him and entered the tomb.
- 0:35And he saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the face cloth
- 0:39which had been on his head, not lying with the linen wrappings,
- 0:41but rolled up in a place by itself.
- 0:44So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb, then
- 0:46also entered, and he saw and believed, for as yet they did
- 0:50not understand the Scripture, that he must rise again from the
- 0:53dead. So the disciples went away again
- 0:55to their own homes, but Mary was standing outside the tomb
- 0:58weeping. And so as she wept she stooped
- 1:00and looked into the tomb, and she saw 2 angels in white
- 1:03sitting, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of
- 1:07Jesus had been lying. And they said to her, woman, why
- 1:10are you weeping? She said to them, Because they
- 1:12have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid
- 1:15him. When she had said this, she
- 1:17turned around and saw Jesus standing there and did not know
- 1:20that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, Woman, why
- 1:23are you weeping? Whom are you seeking, supposing
- 1:26him to be the gardener? She said to him, Sir, if you
- 1:29have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I
- 1:31will take him away. Jesus said to her, Mary.
- 1:36She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means
- 1:38teacher. Jesus said to her, Stop clinging
- 1:41to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father, but go
- 1:43to my brethren and say to them, I ascend to my Father, and to
- 1:46your Father and my God and your God.
- 1:49Mary Magdalene came announcing to the disciples, I have seen
- 1:52the Lord, and that he had said these things to her.
- 1:55So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week,
- 1:58and when the doors were shut where the disciples were for
- 2:00fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to
- 2:03them, Peace be with you. And when he had said this, he
- 2:06showed them both his hands and his side.
- 2:09The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
- 2:12So Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you.
- 2:14As the Father has sent me, I also send you.
- 2:17And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to
- 2:19them, Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any,
- 2:23their sins have been forgiven them.
- 2:25If you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.
- 2:28But Thomas, one of the 12 called Didymus, was not with them when
- 2:31Jesus came. So the other disciples were
- 2:33saying to him, We have seen the Lord.
- 2:35But he said to them, Unless I see in his hands the imprint of
- 2:38the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and
- 2:41put my hand into his side, I will not believe.
- 2:44After 8 days his disciples were again inside, and Thomas with
- 2:47them. Jesus came, the doors having
- 2:49been shut, and stood in their midst, and said, Peace be with
- 2:51you. Then he said to Thomas, Reach
- 2:54here with your finger, and see my hands, and reach here with
- 2:57your hand, and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving,
- 3:00but believing. Thomas answered and said to him,
- 3:04My Lord and my God, Jesus said to him, Because you have seen
- 3:08me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see
- 3:11and yet believed. Therefore, many other signs
- 3:13Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which
- 3:17are not written in this book, but these have been written so
- 3:20that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
- 3:24and that believing you may have life in his name.
