- 0:00G'day. That's right. It's that time again. Time for... CINEMA! You get...
- 1:08Hello my little Eugenites, welcome back. A stolen nuclear arsenal,
- 1:13a rogue strike team and a countdown already burning towards global annihilation.
- 1:20From the explosive world of independent action cinema comes a high-impact espionage
- 1:27thriller where betrayal isn't personal, it's operational.
- 1:31International action star Tatiana, neighbouring martial arts action legend and
- 1:37Cynthia Rothbrock collide in a mission built on fire, precision,
- 1:42and survival at any cost.
- 1:44When rogue deserters from a covert special forces program steel nuclear warheads,
- 1:51the elite operative, that's right, Tatiana Naevo, is deployed to erase the
- 1:57a living weapon forged in secrecy
- 2:00trained to end problems permanently but this
- 2:04time the problem has a face and leading
- 2:07them is the man who made her the sadistic mentor
- 2:11she swore to kill every move anticipated
- 2:15every ally of liability every second brings the world closer to extinction cornered
- 2:21by her past she is forced into a volatile alliance with an uncompromising FBI
- 2:27director because stopping the end of the world means trusting no one and surviving everyone.
- 2:34From directors Benny Tandra and Doug Tukhoyshka, the explosive cinematography
- 2:39by Talons, Tears and Louis D.
- 2:42Stefano, music by Doug Tukhoyshka and the executive production overseen by the
- 2:48mighty Alexander Nevsky and Tatiana Neva.
- 2:50This isn't a mission, it's a reckoning. alexander and
- 2:53tatiana join me now on cinema you can to break
- 2:56down the making of prey of wrath the stunts
- 3:00the fight choreography and the chaos behind the camera prey of wrath my review
- 3:05is in the description along with a link where you can watch the movie now but
- 3:09welcome them to cinema you can the mighty alexander nevsky and the beautiful
- 3:14and little tatiana neighbor thank you.
- 3:18It's so nice to have you guys. I had a friend.
- 3:23Let me, let me open by saying this. I had a friend a while back who had a screenplay,
- 3:28which had a snow battle in it, which is very similar to the snow battle that opens. It's,
- 3:35prey of wrath which is out now challenging yeah
- 3:38on zoomo play get over to the links
- 3:41in the description you don't have to wait you can watch this movie right now
- 3:44get down to the links in the description i remember at the time him saying to
- 3:49me the producers automatically threw script away because they said there's no
- 3:53way you can do a snow battle uh in an independent film It's impossible. It's expensive.
- 4:00You did it. So for all of the keen filmmakers who have been told in the past
- 4:06that you can't do a snow battle in your films, please tell us,
- 4:10how did you pull off that incredible, what an incredible opening?
- 4:13I compare it to the Spy Who Loved Me and True Lies sort of opening, awesome action.
- 4:19Tatiana, the best use of a rocket launcher I've ever seen. I've never seen someone
- 4:23take out someone with a rocket launcher that way.
- 4:27After taking out most of the guys with the rocket and then taking out a guy
- 4:31with the rocket launcher, it was absolutely incredible.
- 4:34I almost cheered out loud watching it. I was like, all right.
- 4:37And she used the rocket launcher to bash his head in as well.
- 4:41Fantastic stuff. Tell us how do you, tell for filmmakers out there who are learning
- 4:46or coming up, how do you pull off action like this on such a low budget?
- 4:50Yeah i mean the budget was lower
- 4:54than we would have wanted but it was still you know
- 4:57like a decent budget it was in the six figures
- 5:00so you know like i mean but there's it's
- 5:02never enough like when you do an action film there's so
- 5:06many expenses there's so it's it's a
- 5:08lot it's a lot it's a mountain to climb alexander knows
- 5:12he can adjust how much of
- 5:14it how much of it is real location like real
- 5:17snow or or is it just a it was all real snow
- 5:20it was all real that's all real okay so yeah
- 5:23we actually freezed our butts off
- 5:26in snow yeah so you timed
- 5:29the production you timed the production to line up
- 5:32with the snow period we did yeah and
- 5:35that was tricky because it was shot in california wow
- 5:39which the good thing about california is
- 5:42that we do get snow the bad thing is is
- 5:45unpredictable how much snow when we're gonna get it so
- 5:48we have to be pretty much ready in the moment's notice
- 5:51whenever it would start raining yeah we
- 5:55knew that it would be snowing in the mountains so we would immediately start
- 5:59preparing it everybody would get a phone call like hey we're going to be filming
- 6:02within the next few days yeah and we would just wait for the snow like to pile
- 6:06up a little bit and we went on location it was a few hours driving i have no
- 6:11I have no idea exactly where we were, I could not pinpoint it.
- 6:15It was in cali and that scene was actually shot it was not shot consecutively
- 6:23like within like a short amount of time we came back to do reshoots for a couple of years.
- 6:32Because we had to catch those rare days
- 6:36like when it was snowing and we still had
- 6:39more stuff to do it was one of the most ambitious scenes
- 6:42in the movie so it took it took us a while
- 6:45and it was really challenging i'm not gonna lie so when you
- 6:47say a couple of years what do you mean like two three like
- 6:50let me let me interrupt for a second and explain a couple of things to your
- 6:54listeners and to your audience so alexander nevsky joined that project just
- 7:01in the in the end of 2024 right But Tatiana and her team, a great team,
- 7:09directors, Benny Chandra, Dr.
- 7:11Chiwoka, Cynthia Rothrock, I mean, legendary Cynthia Rothrock,
- 7:15and all the great cast and crew.
- 7:17And by the way, Benny Chandra also produced the movie, Tatiana exec produced
- 7:22the movie, and I joined as exec producer.
- 7:26In the end of 2024. So film was already shot.
- 7:30So all your compliments about production value in that amazing stance which
- 7:36Tatiana, by the way, did by herself.
- 7:38And I mean, I love your review. Thank you very much for your review.
- 7:42You know, because you actually captured in your review my exact feelings because
- 7:47this movie, when I saw it for the first time on like, you know,
- 7:52cast and crew screening in 2024, They showed basically like an editor's cut,
- 7:58like a first cut of the film.
- 8:00I mean, I was amazed because it reminded me of Canon films, of PM Entertainment in a good way.
- 8:08Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's how I complimented, of course, Tatiana,
- 8:11because she was amazing. And I told her right away, you were so amazing in that film.
- 8:15But also I complimented Benny Jandra, producer. I told him, you actually did
- 8:20a great film. And when it's done, you know, it will make so many people happy.
- 8:27And that's the joke, of course, who also wrote all those great music.
- 8:31Because music is amazing, you know, in the film as well.
- 8:35So my point is, hopefully today you mostly talk to Tatiana because she was the
- 8:41one who, you know, who co-wrote it and starred in it.
- 8:45Exec produced it and created a lot of stunts and helped to edit it and everything.
- 8:49And me, maybe I will join the conversation as well when we talk a little bit
- 8:54about the business side.
- 8:56Because remember, we're always in our conversation, we're talking about the
- 9:00business side, me and you.
- 9:02Because for your audience, it's also very important to understand.
- 9:06But again, to clarify, I joined in 2024. I was working on a film for more than
- 9:11a year. And now, yes, it's on NBCUniversal Zoom.
- 9:14In three months, it will be on Prime Video. So right now in Cannes,
- 9:17they're closing all the international deals.
- 9:20So everything is perfect on budget, by the way.
- 9:22For what they did yeah budget was in six
- 9:26figures you know and we both know being you
- 9:29that it doesn't matter maximum impact cost seven million
- 9:32dollars but it was like it looked like 20 million
- 9:35dollar picture this one looked like a
- 9:38billion dollar picture and it doesn't matter if they spent you
- 9:41know half a million or a little less my point is
- 9:44they did an amazing job and uh tatiana
- 9:47in in the center of it i mean she deserved i mean
- 9:51i love her and maybe i'm a little subjective but actually
- 9:53not because she's not she's just amazing in the film so
- 9:56thank you again for a review i will shut up and
- 9:59that's okay yeah no no a little bit
- 10:02later no no no that's cool no but it's interesting to
- 10:05put that in context because that with you
- 10:08being with your name being attached that people might assume that
- 10:11you're the one that pulled all of the elements together so that's
- 10:14that's very interesting for the audience to take note that
- 10:17uh the the good lady that is our guest here
- 10:20is is a is the prime mover of this
- 10:23project so so tatiana wearing all
- 10:27the different hats at once you're the star of this movie you
- 10:30co-write it you co-edit it you co-produced it you co-co-co do it all was that
- 10:36did that make the experience of making the film a pleasure more pleasurable
- 10:41experience knowing that you had so much control over all these different elements
- 10:45or was it more daunting experience?
- 10:48Oh my goodness it absolutely made it a
- 10:51dream come true because it didn't start that way
- 10:54it started with dr choker coming up with
- 10:56an idea and immediately deciding that the
- 10:59only actress is going to do it with is myself because
- 11:02he saw the match between me and
- 11:05the character the way that he saw the character and he wanted that synergy to
- 11:11translate on the screen so So I came on board initially as a lead actress and
- 11:20none of this other stuff was in the picture and even in the talks.
- 11:24But as we progressed forward, I contributed with fight choreography,
- 11:32which I normally do on my action projects.
- 11:37But I rarely, I don't know if I ever got credited for fight choreography before,
- 11:42but I can pinpoint in every project like that was my idea that was my idea that
- 11:47was my idea but it's just kind of normal for people to pitch in with ideas but
- 11:53there's usually just fight career one fight choreographer and one stunt coordinator
- 11:58sometimes it's going to be the same person.
- 12:00We don't usually get credited for it but
- 12:04dr choco was really gracious and he gave
- 12:07everybody credit for contributing with fight choreography and we had some you
- 12:12know amazing people when it comes to from the stunt community working on the
- 12:17project who really knew what they were doing so we naturally all pitched in
- 12:21to our surprise we got credited and then there were some,
- 12:27moments that some ideas that i came up with as i was reading the script.
- 12:32And i approached doug and i said hey i have some ideas to
- 12:35run by you i don't know if you're going to like them or not and he was
- 12:37still in the process of writing and he we
- 12:41were still in pre-production and he was like yeah run them
- 12:44by me send send them over i sent them i
- 12:47sent him some of my ideas you know like of how to expand the script disclose
- 12:52certain things about the character you know the character's arc and stuff like
- 12:55that he loved them he asked me do you think you can Write it up as In the form
- 13:02of a script You know Can you write up the scene.
- 13:05I was like Yeah absolutely And so I write it up And I send it over And he loves
- 13:09it And he goes like I'm gonna need you to sign The writer's contract I was like,
- 13:14Really? Like what? Like I did not see it coming. I was not doing it for credit.
- 13:19I did not think It was gonna go there.
- 13:23I just wanted to offer some ideas That I thought would be beneficial for the
- 13:28project because my only My only desire was to benefit the project the benefit
- 13:33the movie and you know, can be of use be helpful and.
- 13:37He's just the kind of person, you know, he's a person of integrity So like
- 13:41if you do the work He wants you to get properly compensated and he wants you
- 13:46to get properly credited And there's not a lot of that going on I only know
- 13:51two people in the industry that not three three people in the industry that
- 13:55done that and then Alexander being Does another one of them?
- 13:58So it's like I was I was as shocked as it's you know as one can be and,
- 14:05Things just kept piling up like every time I did something extra for the project
- 14:10you know like i got credited for it and and
- 14:13then i brought alexander on board and he literally
- 14:16helped finish the movie and get distribution and
- 14:20uh this is how i got the
- 14:23official uh credit of the
- 14:26executive producer you know by by
- 14:29doing so even though i did like other things for
- 14:32the production before but this this
- 14:35was what made it enough you know like i've done enough to
- 14:39to earn the the honor of have that title and yeah like there were few things
- 14:45that i've done that i did not take the credit for because i didn't think it
- 14:48was necessary but it was really nice to get that kind of validation and recognition
- 14:53i'm really grateful to dog for it hmm.
- 14:56I mean, do you feel that it makes a film better when the filmmakers have such a,
- 15:02not so much a sparse control of the project, but so much love that they wish
- 15:09to contribute in multiple facets and not just the sole area of their expertise,
- 15:14which is to say as an actor,
- 15:17as a cinematographer, as the composer, right?
- 15:20They wear multiple hats because they wish the best and to see the project realized
- 15:24in the best possible way it can be. I think it depends.
- 15:28It's very individual. I think on some projects, it's very highly beneficial
- 15:33because if it adds value to the final product and if it makes it into something.
- 15:42If those contributions make it into something that is pleasing to the audience
- 15:47in the end of the day, yes, absolutely.
- 15:49I don't think it's appropriate in every single situation,
- 15:53but what I do appreciate and
- 15:55respect about doug is that he always
- 15:59like he's always flexible and open to
- 16:02feedback and open to ideas and he will take whatever the good idea and he will
- 16:09accept it and here let me let me get in with my broken english again because
- 16:15uh let me tell your audience uh again ken because you know it You know it very well,
- 16:21but it's very important to have a professional team.
- 16:25It's great if one person can produce, can act, can write music.
- 16:31Can help with distribution deal, whatever. It's all amazing. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:36If you cannot do all those things yourself, you have to find professionals who will help you.
- 16:44And in Tatiana's case, I mean, she did tremendous work on that project,
- 16:50but she also was lucky, not only because she was acting with her idol,
- 16:56childhood idol, Cynthia Rothrock, and she will tell you about that.
- 17:00But also, she had great directors because Doug and Benny, they did a great job, you know.
- 17:07And Benny Jandra, as a producer, he was the one who I was working with for a
- 17:14year and a half when film was already done.
- 17:18And as you know, as you know, Kent, to find a person who will continue to push
- 17:24when all fun is already over.
- 17:27Right, yeah, yeah. You're not shooting anything.
- 17:29Right, right. A lot of money already spent, right? No guarantee in the future.
- 17:35You know how it is. You have to recruit.
- 17:39So many filmmakers would stop. And I saw so many talented people who would stop
- 17:45because they kind of forgot that who cares, I mean, how talented they are.
- 17:50Who cares what they have in the camp.
- 17:52It's up to them to continue to push, you know?
- 17:55And for, you know, Benny's credit, you know, I've worked with him for a year
- 18:00and a half, and he really helped with everything he could have.
- 18:05And I brought my editor, great editor, Cody Miller, who actually is working
- 18:11with me since Maximum Impact.
- 18:13He edited Maximum Impact, which was a huge production. He edited all my westerns
- 18:18and the horror picture, which I produced.
- 18:21And he actually helped a lot. he worked with distribution team because they
- 18:26had some ideas how to make film even more commercial you know even more.
- 18:31Actiony and everything so my point is Tatiana did an amazing job but also she and her,
- 18:38team they got also lucky because they were
- 18:41all professionals they didn't have amateurs
- 18:44in their team it's very important you know
- 18:47like in whatever in basketball i always prefer like
- 18:51boxing or bodybuilding but in team sport you know when you play against another
- 18:56five people and four people in your team are great but one is not yes you will
- 19:02lose and it doesn't matter how great you are one of you is a bad player.
- 19:08So you will lose if they have five great players in front of you.
- 19:12Oh, you're only as strong as your weakest link, as they say. Exactly, exactly.
- 19:17So going back to what Tatiana just said, I mean, Doug is an amazing guy and
- 19:22he also, he directed with Benny.
- 19:25They directed it together and of course he helped to produce,
- 19:29you know, and he organized a lot of things with Benny. He created great music.
- 19:34And most importantly for me, it was him who really, you know,
- 19:40supported Tatiana mostly in this production.
- 19:44And he was always on her side.
- 19:46And I'm sure he will listen to that interview. So thank you, Doug.
- 19:50Thank you from me and from Tatiana. Yes, thank you very much, Doug.
- 19:53Exactly. Thank you, Doug. And of course, thank you, Benny. And thank you,
- 19:57Cynthia and all the cast and crew.
- 19:59Because, you know, in my opinion, it's an amazing starting vehicle for Tatiana.
- 20:04And yes, she's amazing and she's in the center of it.
- 20:07But also there is a great team behind her.
- 20:10Yeah. And I, look, I feel exactly the same way as you did, obviously,
- 20:13watching it for the first time.
- 20:15I'm like, wow, this is like a throwback to the great action pitches,
- 20:19canon pitches made back in the day.
- 20:22And they were all theatrical, by the way. You know, they put them in theaters
- 20:26back then, back in the 80s. Yeah.
- 20:29Yeah. And it was just, I mean, I was just staggered. Like I've,
- 20:33I've heard producers like who have read my script say, oh, we can't do this
- 20:38and we can't do that. And that's too big.
- 20:41That's impossible, whatever else. And then I watch a movie like this and I go, well, that's crap.
- 20:46Look, they did it. There's a snow battle. I mean, she come, I mean,
- 20:50one, another favorite scene is, is Tatiana.
- 20:52You get to come out at the end with, uh, with old painless with the, uh.
- 20:56The the minigun what was it like oh
- 20:59yeah you actually did you actually fire are you
- 21:02actually firing firing that or is it is it
- 21:05no no no all of the all of the weapons were in the exact replicas they were
- 21:10all okay the replicas yeah yeah but i thought i was about to say what was it
- 21:14like to to fire the no no no no the minigun i i honestly i've never fired a
- 21:21real minigun but i heard that It has like a super,
- 21:25well, personal, this thing was like really heavy. We need to get Jesse Ventura on here to find out.
- 21:31Yeah. From Predator. Yeah.
- 21:34But was it heavy though, even though it was a replica? It was so heavy. It was so heavy.
- 21:38See, Alex, you would have benefited for being there, for carrying that around
- 21:41for her while she was, you know.
- 21:43I could have, but Tatiana still looked much better than me or even Jesse Ventura with it.
- 21:50But please, Tatiana, go on. Yeah, no, please carry on. Yeah.
- 21:53Yeah but it was really fun to have that experience because actually all of the
- 21:59weapons that you see in the movie doug tracked them down and found them and
- 22:02purchased them from different parts of the world.
- 22:06Like don't ask me how and it took him a long time to,
- 22:10collect all of those and they are like they look legit like they are i bought
- 22:17i bought it completely i thought she's firing that Wow,
- 22:21she's still standing on her feet, but it was it was hard.
- 22:30It was hard. And I, I, you know, I love firearms, you know, I'm a big,
- 22:37you know, like the Second Amendment.
- 22:38Enthusiasts and i've shot different
- 22:41things at different fire like professional fire ranges all
- 22:44over the country and all over the world and a lot
- 22:46of the weapons that we used in this production i've actually had experiences
- 22:52real life experiences firing those in actual fire ranges so that actually helped
- 22:58me sell it yeah but i gotta say that yeah the minigun and the rocket launcher or,
- 23:04you know, those are like my personal favorites because I was like,
- 23:07you don't get to do this every day.
- 23:10You know, like not every movie will even have those, you know,
- 23:13like it was, it was a fun, fun addition.
- 23:16And I tell you, even though Cynthia Rothrock is in this movie,
- 23:19I know she's your idol and she kicks up and she's been kicking up a storm for years.
- 23:24You kick up quite a bit of a storm in this. What was it like doing all those
- 23:28fights where you're, you know,
- 23:30Spinning flying kicks and catching guys with your legs in midair and stuff like that.
- 23:36What was it like doing all that crazy matrix fighting?
- 23:40Milo Jovovich kind of Resident Evil action kind of stuff. What was it like doing all that?
- 23:47Flying around? So much fun. First of all, thank you for comparing me to Milo
- 23:51Jovovich. Literally one of my other idols.
- 23:55I absolutely adore her. And she's such a sweet lady.
- 23:58I actually got to meet her under very strange
- 24:02circumstances i was audio rappelling at the
- 24:05beach and she had a magazine cover
- 24:08shoot right underneath so when i run down the mountain and
- 24:11i come up to her and i was just telling my crew we were filming an
- 24:14action scene i was literally fighting a guy on
- 24:18the side of the mountain with our you
- 24:21know like audio rappelling you know like it was
- 24:24like a really unusual thing unfortunately i don't
- 24:27have any footage from that day and there's a photo shoot going
- 24:30on below but mila jovich saw
- 24:33that and before before she even before they even set up when we started filming
- 24:39i was sharing with the crew i was like you know what you guys like this is something
- 24:44i've been dreaming to do since i saw second resident evil i wanted to do aussie
- 24:48style repelling and to do a fight aussie style repelling it was like completely.
- 24:54Like an incredible and spirits i couldn't even imagine that
- 24:57as possible and all of a sudden you know a few hours later we keep filming take
- 25:02after take and they're like oh my god that's milo jovich down there i'm like
- 25:06and i thought they're messing with me because i literally just told them that
- 25:10she's the reason why i always wanted to do this so they're like look i'm like
- 25:13very funny and then they look down and i'm like.
- 25:17Oh my god like and i mean i have pretty good eyesight
- 25:20but like she was far away i'm like could it be that is
- 25:23her i ran down the hill and she was
- 25:26obviously like looking up at us like this and i
- 25:29ran down the hill i'm like i'm gonna go say hi yeah and i
- 25:32walked up to her and she was so gracious like like
- 25:35they were losing light they needed that national light like it was
- 25:37golden hour you don't you don't mess with that like you shoot
- 25:40when it's golden hour you you don't lose the light right but
- 25:44she took literally like she probably spoke to me for five minutes
- 25:47which is a lot at that time right yeah and she spoke
- 25:49to me and she was like what you're doing up there you're kicking ass like
- 25:52this is amazing and i was like this you have
- 25:55no idea how much it means to me to hear that because i literally
- 25:59always wanted to do it because of you you were the first person that
- 26:02i ever saw do something like that and like seeing
- 26:05you here right now like you have no idea how much it means to
- 26:08me and yeah like we had like a really nice exchange and
- 26:11and then we went back to filming and she went back to shooting her
- 26:14cover really amazing amazing lady really
- 26:17so graceful like wonderful stories ladies and gentlemen but thank you very much
- 26:23for complimenting tatiana on all her kicks maybe tatiana you will tell a little
- 26:26bit about how did you train and how you really you know perform in these scenes
- 26:30well no but we want to talk about yeah come on yeah what.
- 26:37Was that what was the regime like going into what is
- 26:41the regime like going into any action picture for
- 26:44a for a performer such as yourself well i
- 26:48do i do training you know like on a regular basis when
- 26:52it comes to you know like basics basic kicks
- 26:55basic movements you know stretching stamina all that stuff like that's ongoing
- 27:00but for this particular movie when we were in pre-production and Doug showed
- 27:07me some of the stuff that he wanted to do for the fights he literally had this compilation of.
- 27:15Like moments from jackie chad movies jet
- 27:18lee movies bruce lee movies from all
- 27:21those different like iconic martial arts world-renowned
- 27:26action stars and they were like showing
- 27:29me all this stuff there was vam dam you know like everybody who
- 27:33is anybody in action right and they were like we would like to do like this
- 27:38something like this something like that can you do this kind of they were like
- 27:41asking me like what they were trying to you know figure out like how far can
- 27:45we push it what can we do looking at all this i was like well like it's ambitious,
- 27:51it looks ambitious it looks challenging and i'm
- 27:54honored to even be you know like ask that question you're like can you do what
- 27:59gently does i'm like i don't know but let's find out you know you don't know
- 28:03until you try and we went into training and i was like i am willing to try Every
- 28:09single one of those moves that you want to do and those who that I actually do.
- 28:14Well, you know Like we will incorporate into a fight. Okay, no problem.
- 28:17So I learned like several Different new moves that I've never done before like
- 28:22this where cake with standing like on one hand.
- 28:27Like I did two different split cakes taught to me by Martin Chen who is actual,
- 28:33black belt like i don't even know how many dance
- 28:36he has like he has so many black belts he could like make a
- 28:40hammock out of them or something yeah like
- 28:44we i trained with some really legit people like they're really good at stunts
- 28:49martial arts and you know like they really pushed my physicality you know like
- 28:55beyond the known limits and i think i think it translated really well on the screen Thank you.
- 29:03I believe it all day long. You're an assassin that no one should ever turn their back on.
- 29:10And, and the good thing about the, these movies is it ends with a bit of a question
