- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 0:01Speaker 2: It is Verdict with center, Ted Cruz, Ben Ferguson with
- 0:04Speaker 2: you as well, Center, and we totally change places. You're
- 0:07Speaker 2: in Houston, That's where I usually am. I'm in DC
- 0:09Speaker 2: where you usually are, and this is where we are today,
- 0:12Speaker 2: getting ready to ahead of the State of the Union.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It's going to be a fun show. We've got a
- 0:16Speaker 2: lot to talk about in including a killing of a
- 0:19Speaker 2: cartel leader in Mexico.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Well, violence is broken out in Mexico. Chaos is unfolding
- 0:24Speaker 3: right now. You and I are recording this on Sunday
- 0:27Speaker 3: afternoon as well as we're recording it. A major Mexican
- 0:30Speaker 3: cartel leader was taken out by the Mexican government, the
- 0:33Speaker 3: Mexican Army. The reaction has been violence, serious violence that
- 0:37Speaker 3: is escalating. Some of it is reportedly targeting American tourists.
- 0:41Speaker 3: We're going to break down what happens and what it means.
- 0:45Speaker 3: We're also going to talk about the major Supreme Court
- 0:47Speaker 3: decision that came down this week. The Supreme Court struck
- 0:50Speaker 3: down President Trump's use of tariffs, the centerpiece of his
- 0:54Speaker 3: economic policy abroad. The Supreme Court said that the statute
- 0:58Speaker 3: he used to impose those those tariffs.
- 1:00Speaker 4: A statute called AIPA does not give them the authority
- 1:04Speaker 4: to do.
- 1:04Speaker 3: So, we're gonna explain what that decision was all about,
- 1:07Speaker 3: what the court held in particular, what happens next, What
- 1:10Speaker 3: does this mean. Does this mean Trump can't use tariffs?
- 1:13Speaker 3: Does it mean nothing changes. We're gonna break it down
- 1:15Speaker 3: and give you everything you need to know to understand
- 1:17Speaker 3: this topic. And finally, we're gonna celebrate the Olympics, a
- 1:21Speaker 3: victory in men's hockey USA USA, and we're gonna highlight
- 1:25Speaker 3: a couple of the extraordinary athletes who represented America and
- 1:29Speaker 3: brought home the gold.
- 1:30Speaker 4: All of that's on today's podcast.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, Hockey American Canada game. We got to talk about
- 1:34Speaker 2: that one as well. It was really really fun. I
- 1:37Speaker 2: want to just talk to you for a moment though,
- 1:38Speaker 2: about what's happening in Israel right now and the International
- 1:42Speaker 2: Fellowship of Christians and Jews. What they are doing to
- 1:45Speaker 2: help people in Israel is truly unbelievable.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Israel is a very.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Hot topic right now, and with so many opinions and
- 1:52Speaker 2: emotions surrounding it, it can feel hard to know where
- 1:55Speaker 2: to start. The Bible tells us I will bless those
- 1:58Speaker 2: who bless you. That isn't just a comforting promise, it's
- 2:02Speaker 2: a clear calling from God. And today, with anti Semitism
- 2:06Speaker 2: rising around the world, that calling is more urgent than ever.
- 2:09Speaker 2: At a time when Jewish communities are experiencing more hostility,
- 2:13Speaker 2: more threats, and more violence than ever, Christians have a
- 2:17Speaker 2: powerful opportunity to respond with God's love to say you
- 2:21Speaker 2: are not alone. When Christians choose to bless Israel, we're
- 2:24Speaker 2: not entering a political issue. We're honoring the root of
- 2:28Speaker 2: our faith and standing against hatred. Supporting Israel is more
- 2:32Speaker 2: than a belief, it's a biblical mandate. And by partnering
- 2:35Speaker 2: with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, you can
- 2:39Speaker 2: push back against darkness and be a light to God's people.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Learn how you can bless Israel and be blessed in return.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Visit IFCJ dot org today. That's IFCJ dot org today,
- 2:52Speaker 2: Be a blessing live in the world. Answer the call.
- 2:55Speaker 1: All right, Senator, So.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Right before we started recording, we get this big news,
- 3:00Speaker 2: and that is that the government in Mexico took out
- 3:04Speaker 2: the leader of one of these cartels. There are several
- 3:07Speaker 2: different cartel leaders depending on which region you're in in Mexico,
- 3:11Speaker 2: this was a significant one. There was a large bounty
- 3:13Speaker 2: on this individual's head by the US government as well.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And now we're seeing what many were fearful of. That
- 3:19Speaker 2: is and this is part of what the cartels do.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You come after us, We'll go after the economy and tourism,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and that's the biggest concern for so many Americans that
- 3:27Speaker 2: are down there.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Spring break has started as well.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so here's the story of the New York Times
- 3:32Speaker 3: about what has happened. Mexican forces kill nations most wanted
- 3:35Speaker 3: cartel boss. Nmessio Osiguera Servantes, known as Elmentcho, was the
- 3:40Speaker 3: head of the Jalisco New Generation cartel and widely regarded
- 3:43Speaker 3: as one of the country's most violent criminal figures. The
- 3:46Speaker 3: Mexican government said it killed the nation's most wanted cartel
- 3:49Speaker 3: boss on Sunday, a major victory in its new offensive
- 3:52Speaker 3: against the country's criminal groups and a move that could
- 3:54Speaker 3: help reduce pressure from President Trump, who has been threatening
- 3:58Speaker 3: strikes in Mexico.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Scio Ossagura Servanto.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Known as Elmencho, was the longtime leader of one of
- 4:04Speaker 3: Mexico's most powerful cartels, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and
- 4:08Speaker 3: he was widely regarded as one of the country's most
- 4:11Speaker 3: violent criminal figures. He presided over a criminal enterprise that
- 4:15Speaker 3: expanded rapidly over the past decade, producing and selling drugs
- 4:19Speaker 3: and extorting local businesses. He also built a reputation for
- 4:23Speaker 3: brazen attacks on security forces and terrorizing communities across the country.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Mexican security forces led in Operation Sunday to capture mister
- 4:32Speaker 3: Ostegura in Tapalpa, a town of about twenty thousand in
- 4:37Speaker 3: the western coastal state of Jalisco, where his cartel was
- 4:40Speaker 3: founded and based. The Mexican government said at least seven
- 4:44Speaker 3: cartel members were killed.
- 4:45Speaker 4: During the operation.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Mister Rosguru and two other cartel operatives were seriously injured
- 4:51Speaker 3: in the operation and died while in transport to Mexico
- 4:54Speaker 3: City for medical attention.
- 4:55Speaker 4: According to the Mexican government, mister.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Osagara's killing set off a swift outbreak of violence across
- 5:02Speaker 3: Mexico in at least six states, including Jalisco. Residents in
- 5:06Speaker 3: the local authorities reported that burning vehicles were blocking streets,
- 5:10Speaker 3: a common.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Practice by drug cartels.
- 5:13Speaker 3: The state of Jalisco said it had suspended public transportation
- 5:17Speaker 3: in some areas and warned hotels to instruct their guests
- 5:21Speaker 3: to remain inside the state of Nayarit canceled classes on Monday.
- 5:25Speaker 3: The US government warned its citizens to shelter in place
- 5:29Speaker 3: until further notice in parts of five states Jalisco, Tamlipas.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Miochi, kan Guero, and Weberleon.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Various airlines issued travel advisories or halted flights. Some of
- 5:43Speaker 3: the violence occurred in Gualajarajalisco's capital, a hub of one
- 5:46Speaker 3: point four million people that is a host city for
- 5:49Speaker 3: this year's World Cup. Panic broke out at Gualajara International
- 5:54Speaker 3: Airport on Sunday, with videos posted on social media showing
- 5:58Speaker 3: airport staff and travelers fleeing the building, but the airport
- 6:02Speaker 3: in Mexican federal government said that the airport was operating
- 6:05Speaker 3: as normal and there was no risk of flyers. In
- 6:08Speaker 3: the northern border city of Reynosa, which is located right
- 6:12Speaker 3: across the river from McCallan, Texas, main roads and entrances
- 6:16Speaker 3: were blocked with burning vehicles, according to local media reports.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Vanda felbab Brown, an expert on non state armed groups
- 6:24Speaker 3: at the Brooking Institute, said the significance of mister Osagera's
- 6:28Speaker 3: killing rivaled that of the capture of sidhaloa cartel leader
- 6:32Speaker 3: Juaquin Guzman Loira known as El Chapo, in twenty sixteen,
- 6:37Speaker 3: or of his former partner Ismail Zambarda Garcia, known as
- 6:41Speaker 3: El Mayo.
- 6:42Speaker 4: In twenty twenty four. Look, this is rapidly unfolding.
- 6:47Speaker 3: There are reports of cartels targeting American citizens going after them.
- 6:54Speaker 3: It's a dangerous time. This could change in the hours
- 6:57Speaker 3: and days ahead. I'm certainly glad that a major cartel
- 7:02Speaker 3: leader who has been smuggling drugs into the United States,
- 7:05Speaker 3: has been responsible for killing Americans, is no longer with us,
- 7:09Speaker 3: but it makes it very dangerous for the people of
- 7:12Speaker 3: Mexico and potentially very dangerous for Americans as well.
- 7:16Speaker 2: You know, you and I have talked about this, and
- 7:18Speaker 2: the concern obviously that you and I both have is
- 7:22Speaker 2: that the Mexico is being run by these cartels. We
- 7:26Speaker 2: know that, and that's been one of the things that
- 7:29Speaker 2: Donald Trump has been talking about, is like, look, you
- 7:32Speaker 2: guys are killing Americans with the amount of drugs coming
- 7:34Speaker 2: across your border, the fetanyl and other things. We also
- 7:37Speaker 2: know about the open border just from human smuggling and
- 7:39Speaker 2: human trafficking, and sex trafficking and child sex trafficking, those combined,
- 7:43Speaker 2: and the present made it clear to Mexico you better
- 7:46Speaker 2: act or we will act the same way that we acted.
- 7:49Speaker 2: And we weren't bluffing in Venezuela taking out a narco
- 7:52Speaker 2: terrorist there. This is clearly, I think Mexico's government signaling
- 7:56Speaker 2: that we heard you, and probably more so since what
- 8:00Speaker 2: they witnessed in Venezuela, and they're saying, we would rather
- 8:03Speaker 2: choose who we take out than you guys start doing it.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Is that a fair assessment.
- 8:07Speaker 4: I think that's a very fair assessment.
- 8:09Speaker 3: As you'll recall, in August of last year, I went
- 8:12Speaker 3: down to Mexico. I did a trip to El Salvador
- 8:15Speaker 3: in Panama and in Mexico, and I met with senior
- 8:17Speaker 3: officials in the Mexican government and the message I conveyed
- 8:21Speaker 3: to them is that they needed to get serious fighting
- 8:23Speaker 3: the cartels, to stop the drug trafficking into America, to
- 8:26Speaker 3: stop the human trafficking into America. And the message I
- 8:30Speaker 3: conveyed is if you don't get serious, President Trump is
- 8:32Speaker 3: going to And this was before the Maduro raid, but
- 8:36Speaker 3: the Maduro raid was not a surprise, and that it
- 8:39Speaker 3: was clear the president was going to do what is
- 8:41Speaker 3: necessary to keep America safe and my message and the
- 8:44Speaker 3: Mexican leaders did not like that. When I conveyed that message,
- 8:48Speaker 3: I said, look, we're not going to let you just
- 8:52Speaker 3: sit there and turn a blind eye while these transnational
- 8:55Speaker 3: criminal organizations flood poisons into America and kill Americans, and
- 9:01Speaker 3: while they traffic in human beings and assault and sexually
- 9:05Speaker 3: assault little children. We're not simply going to sit by
- 9:07Speaker 3: and say that's okay. This is not the Biden administration.
- 9:11Speaker 3: These are not Democrats who are going to say we
- 9:13Speaker 3: have no problem with thousands of children being molested by
- 9:17Speaker 3: human traffickers because it furthers our political agenda to get
- 9:21Speaker 3: more people in America who will vote for Democrats. That
- 9:24Speaker 3: is not what this administration is doing. And you and
- 9:26Speaker 3: I talked about it in the wake of the Maduro arrest.
- 9:31Speaker 3: I said, listen, this has changed the geopolitical power structure
- 9:35Speaker 3: throughout Latin America. Every dictator in Latin America, at three
- 9:39Speaker 3: am on January third.
- 9:41Speaker 4: They change their shorts.
- 9:44Speaker 3: The leadership, the Communist leadership in Cuba and Nicaragua, those
- 9:48Speaker 3: guys are terrified. In Colombia, we saw Petro immediately calling
- 9:52Speaker 3: and saying this President, I'm not resisting you at all.
- 9:55Speaker 3: We saw the immediate reaction in Colombia. And look, I
- 9:59Speaker 3: emphasized in nations like Brazil and Mexico. Brazil and Mexico
- 10:03Speaker 3: stand on very different footing than a Cuba or a
- 10:06Speaker 3: nicaragu or even a Columbia. But they are headed by
- 10:09Speaker 3: leftists who have been vocally anti American. And I will
- 10:13Speaker 3: say Mexico has pivoted sharply, and this is a real
- 10:17Speaker 3: manifestation of that. And Bennett's worth not losing sight of
- 10:22Speaker 3: the fact. You might say, okay, well, why target these
- 10:25Speaker 3: narco terrorists?
- 10:26Speaker 4: Why do this?
- 10:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 3: One of the most compelling stats from the last year
- 10:32Speaker 3: is that murder rates nationally have dropped more than twenty
- 10:37Speaker 3: percent nationwide.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It's nationwide.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Drug overdose rates nationwide have dropped more than twenty percent.
- 10:47Speaker 3: There are literally, this is not exaggeration. There are literally
- 10:51Speaker 3: thousands of Americans who are alive today because Trump was
- 10:55Speaker 3: reelected and Republicans.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Were put in charge of Congress.
- 10:58Speaker 3: If we had kept the Democrat open borders going, there
- 11:01Speaker 3: would be thousands more Americans dead from murder and other
- 11:06Speaker 3: violent crime and from drug overdoses. And I got to
- 11:10Speaker 3: tell you, Ben, did you happen to read front page
- 11:13Speaker 3: story in the Houston Chronicle a couple of weeks ago.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Which was on the murder rates? Yes, no, I did.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And what's interesting about where you're going with this is
- 11:22Speaker 2: most police departments and local governments celebrate a three percent
- 11:25Speaker 2: drop in violent crime. Like that's like worth having a
- 11:29Speaker 2: press conference over for you to say, look at this
- 11:31Speaker 2: trend and now you look at what you mentioned nationwide
- 11:34Speaker 2: and go back to I know where you're going with
- 11:36Speaker 2: a story, but like, these are numbers that traditionally would
- 11:39Speaker 2: take three, four, five, six, seven years of every year
- 11:43Speaker 2: doubling down to get the numbers down as fast as
- 11:45Speaker 2: they've under Trump administration.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It is. It's remarkable.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Well it's about two three weeks ago Houston Chronicle front page,
- 11:52Speaker 3: top of the fold, banner headline, murder rate in Houston,
- 11:56Speaker 3: Texas drops eighteen percent. Yeah, you and I both live
- 11:59Speaker 3: in here. That's good news. Our families are in Houston.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Heidi handed me this story on a newspaper on an airplane,
- 12:07Speaker 3: and she did it because she knew it would piss me.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Off, as you have a good wife, when your wife
- 12:15Speaker 2: would never do that to you, right, never.
- 12:16Speaker 1: No, they never poked the bear. Yeah, keep going.
- 12:19Speaker 3: So I read the article, and the article says the
- 12:21Speaker 3: murder rate has dropped eighteen percent. Nobody can figure out why.
- 12:25Speaker 3: It's completely baffling. Experts are confused. There is no possible cause.
- 12:30Speaker 3: It just magically unicorns flew from the sky, they spread
- 12:34Speaker 3: pixie dust, and the murder rates fell eighteen percent.
- 12:37Speaker 4: And it did not.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Occur to the reporter to these quote experts who are
- 12:41Speaker 3: all left wing knuckleheads that maybe arresting and deporting thousands
- 12:47Speaker 3: upon thousands of murderers and rabists and gang bangers who
- 12:52Speaker 3: are illegal immigrants, maybe if there are fewer murderers, there
- 12:56Speaker 3: will be fewer murders. That this is not subtle or
- 12:59Speaker 3: complex public policy. And yet the Houston Chronicle, this is
- 13:05Speaker 3: completely undecipherable.
- 13:07Speaker 1: You know, I've been in DC right now.
- 13:08Speaker 2: You're coming back up here obviously for the State of
- 13:10Speaker 2: the Union, and I'm up here for literally meetings on
- 13:13Speaker 2: the state of the Union. And one of the things
- 13:15Speaker 2: that was asked I was earlier today, what should the
- 13:18Speaker 2: president focus on? What are the issues This is obviously
- 13:22Speaker 2: a curve ball, and this is what the writers are
- 13:24Speaker 2: going to be dealing with right now. But what would
- 13:26Speaker 2: your advice be to the president on should this make
- 13:28Speaker 2: it in the City of the Union, And should you
- 13:30Speaker 2: say to Mexico, hey, you're head in the right direction,
- 13:33Speaker 2: but we're not finished yet, like it's time to keep going.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Or is this where you let them take the lead.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I'm very much torn on this one. I think this
- 13:41Speaker 2: is an American foreign policy. First, you say, look, this is
- 13:43Speaker 2: step in the right direction. But let's be clear, there's
- 13:45Speaker 2: several other leaders of other cartels in Mexico that are
- 13:49Speaker 2: still active right now.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Listen.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I very much agree with President Trump and his focus
- 13:53Speaker 3: on America. First, I spoke with a president just a
- 13:56Speaker 3: few days ago, spent about thirty minutes on the phone
- 13:58Speaker 3: with him, and we actually talked about before this drug
- 14:01Speaker 3: dealer was killed, but I talked to him about I said, look,
- 14:04Speaker 3: let me encourage you and the administration focus more on
- 14:09Speaker 3: the messaging about what you and I just talked about
- 14:11Speaker 3: about the murder rate plummeting, the drug overdose deaths plummeting.
- 14:16Speaker 3: That is a big deal, and so I think it's
- 14:19Speaker 3: perfectly appropriate and would be fitting to mention this, this
- 14:22Speaker 3: drug dealer being killed.
- 14:24Speaker 4: But I wouldn't make the focus Mexico.
- 14:25Speaker 3: I wouldn't make the focus by the way, Venezuela or
- 14:29Speaker 3: any other country. What I would make the focus is
- 14:31Speaker 3: America that by standing up to Narco terrorists, by standing
- 14:36Speaker 3: up to people who are killing Americans, fewer Americans are dying.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I think the entire speech on Tuesday should be all
- 14:45Speaker 3: about how people's lives are materially better because of the
- 14:49Speaker 3: policies President Trump is put in place and a Republican
- 14:52Speaker 3: Congress is put in place, and I'd like to see
- 14:54Speaker 3: crime in law and order as a major, major theme
- 14:57Speaker 3: of the address.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Final question for you. You mentioned earlier that there's a
- 15:01Speaker 2: shelter in place. Your office I'm sure is going to
- 15:04Speaker 2: get a lot of phone calls on Monday. If I
- 15:06Speaker 2: was down in Mexico for spring break right now, I'd
- 15:08Speaker 2: be calling as well. What if you have family down there,
- 15:12Speaker 2: or you're down there and you're listening to this and
- 15:14Speaker 2: you want to just who do you talk to, who
- 15:16Speaker 2: do you get in touch with, what do you do
- 15:17Speaker 2: and what do you tell your family to do when
- 15:19Speaker 2: it comes to contacting do you contact Congress, senators or
- 15:22Speaker 2: what who do you call?
- 15:24Speaker 3: You know, I would go to the State Department, the
- 15:25Speaker 3: State Department website. They put out country notices, they have information,
- 15:29Speaker 3: and they have information typically broken down by the particular region,
- 15:33Speaker 3: by the state within Mexico. There is no doubt that
- 15:36Speaker 3: Mexico right now it is a very dangerous place. That
- 15:39Speaker 3: that tragically, the cartel violence has gotten really bad. Now, Ben,
- 15:44Speaker 3: you know, I'm a fan of Mexico. I happen to
- 15:46Speaker 3: like ken Kun. Yeah, that may a couple of people
- 15:50Speaker 3: may have noticed that. Look, I think Mexico is a
- 15:53Speaker 3: beautiful country. Texas and Mexico have a long history that
- 15:57Speaker 3: is intertwined. And what has happened to Mexico in recent
- 16:02Speaker 3: years with the cartel violence is tragic. That being said,
- 16:06Speaker 3: if you're thinking of going to Mexico for spring break,
- 16:09Speaker 3: I would be very cautious. I would read the State
- 16:12Speaker 3: Department website closely. I would read news reports. We don't
- 16:16Speaker 3: know how this is going to go. If it escalates,
- 16:18Speaker 3: if we see the cartels targeting American tourists at a
- 16:23Speaker 3: significant level, I would think very carefully about that.
- 16:26Speaker 5: I got to ask you a question, can you buy
- 16:28Speaker 5: Roe bitcoin in your retirement account. Well, if not, it's

- 18:10Speaker 2: but there was also something interesting in. There Brett kavanaugh
- 18:13Speaker 2: wrote basically in, there AND i found this incredibly interesting that,
- 18:18Speaker 2: hey what we're saying you, did you can't necessarily do
- 18:20Speaker 2: it that. Way, however here is a way you can do.
- 18:23Speaker 2: It it reminded me almost of Like, obamacare when they're, like,
- 18:27Speaker 2: well if you do it this, way then you can
- 18:29Speaker 2: get away with, it but the way you're doing, it
- 18:30Speaker 2: don't keep doing it that.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Way do it this other.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Way it was like a roadmap for him to still have,
- 18:35Speaker 2: tariffs still have the power that the presidency needs to do,
- 18:38Speaker 2: this and you saw The president jump all over that
- 18:40Speaker 2: with a ten percent saying this ain't going.
- 18:42Speaker 1: AWAY i don't know if this is a big of a.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Defeat As democrats and media are trying to make it
- 18:46Speaker 2: out to, be and the present instant, RESPONDS i think
- 18:49Speaker 2: it proves he still has a ton of.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Power, well, Listen i'm going to start by eating.
- 18:55Speaker 3: CROW i did make a prediction on this, podcast AND
- 18:58Speaker 3: i make a lot of predictions on this and we've
- 19:01Speaker 3: never tallied the, number BUT i think we're north of eighty,
- 19:04Speaker 3: percent maybe even north of ninety.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Percent, Right i'm gonna get you.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Credit said it's above ninety BECAUSE i make SURE i
- 19:09Speaker 2: give you a hard time when you're, wrong and that's
- 19:10Speaker 2: not very.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Often so this is on that. Sheet but you.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Know, Yeah and by the, way we don't make small
- 19:17Speaker 3: and mild. PREDICTIONS i, MEAN i mean we make bold
- 19:20Speaker 3: and aggressive. Predictions in twenty twenty, four.
- 19:23Speaker 1: He was the biggest. One, Yeah Joe. Biden let's let's
- 19:25Speaker 1: just talk about.
- 19:26Speaker 3: IT i predicted That Joe biden would not be the
- 19:28Speaker 3: nominee a year before it, happened and said they are
- 19:32Speaker 3: going to replace, him he is not going to be
- 19:35Speaker 3: on the Ballot november and and and the corporate media
- 19:39Speaker 3: made fun of me like crazy for that. Prediction of,
- 19:42Speaker 3: course it was exactly. Right we've made a lot of.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Predictions we broke down In march And. April at the
- 19:48Speaker 3: beginning OF, COVID i laid out the evidence that THE
- 19:51Speaker 3: covid virus escaped from A chinese government lab right at the,
- 19:54Speaker 3: beginning and the predictions and that we laid out. There
- 19:59Speaker 3: the evidence we laid out there was square on. Right
- 20:01Speaker 3: SO i made a prediction that The Supreme court five
- 20:04Speaker 3: to four would uphold the president's use of terroriffts that
- 20:08Speaker 3: prediction proved, false what actually happened is six' Three the
- 20:12Speaker 3: court struck. IT down i also Predicted That john roberts
- 20:15Speaker 3: would write the. MAJORITY opinion i guess that did prove,
- 20:18Speaker 3: technically accurate but he wrote the majority opinion going the.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Other way HERE'S why i Thought the court was going
- 20:25Speaker 3: to uphold the, President's TARIFFS and, i said they're a massive.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Reliance interests there have been hundreds of billions of dollars of,
- 20:31Speaker 3: tariffs collected and the court is reluctant to dramatically upset the.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Status QUO and i, did say If the court were
- 20:40Speaker 3: deciding this issue a, year ago right at the beginning
- 20:43Speaker 3: Of the, TRUMP administration, I said i think they'd come
- 20:46Speaker 3: out the. Other way but after a year plus after
- 20:49Speaker 3: this being central to the economic and foreign policy agenda of.
- 20:54Speaker 4: THE president i thought the court would not struck. It
- 20:57Speaker 4: down that.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Proved wrong but at the end of, THE day i
- 21:02Speaker 3: don't think it matters a.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Whole lot let's cut to.
- 21:04Speaker 3: THE conclusion i don't think the consequences of this decision
- 21:08Speaker 3: are going to be all. That much what the court
- 21:11Speaker 3: decided narrowly is that one PARTICULAR statute iipa does not
- 21:16Speaker 3: give the president the authority to. Impose, tariffs now, MIND
- 21:20Speaker 3: you iepa Gives the president the authority to quote. Regulate
- 21:25Speaker 3: importations and so the majority, opinion concluded the president can
- 21:31Speaker 3: ban an import from, a country can say we will
- 21:36Speaker 3: Import zero german Cars. Into america he can, do that
- 21:40Speaker 3: but he can't say we're going to charge a dollar
- 21:42Speaker 3: for each one Of those. German cars that is a pretty.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Loopy CONCLUSION and i.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Got to say.
- 21:48Speaker 3: The Descents justice kavanaugh wrote the. Lead Descent justice thomas
- 21:52Speaker 3: wrote an. EXCELLENT descent i think the descents get the
- 21:54Speaker 3: much better of the argument that the Words that congress
- 21:59Speaker 3: put IN THE iepa a statute, regulate Importation And justice
- 22:03Speaker 3: thomas had an originalist dissent where he goes through in
- 22:07Speaker 3: the foreign policy area, in particular the ability to import
- 22:12Speaker 3: goods from other countries was never viewed as. A right
- 22:14Speaker 3: it was a privilege the government allowed you. To do and,
- 22:17Speaker 3: in fact tariffs were a major tool government used to
- 22:20Speaker 3: regulate importation from. Other COUNTRIES so i think the majority decision.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Is wrong but here's the thing. That matters there are
- 22:30Speaker 3: so many other statutes that allow the president to impose
- 22:34Speaker 3: TARIFFS that i think we will see essentially the.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Same regime it's gonna be a little.
- 22:38Speaker 3: More complicated he's gonna have to do a little bit,
- 22:40Speaker 3: more work it's going to require some more, legal PROCEEDINGS
- 22:43Speaker 3: but i think you're going to. See him we saw
- 22:45Speaker 3: Immediately the president announced a ten percent tariff on. Every
- 22:48Speaker 3: country he then upped that to. Fifteen PERCENT but i
- 22:52Speaker 3: think at the end of, the Day the president will
- 22:54Speaker 3: continue to use tariffs as a critical part of his,
- 22:57Speaker 3: foreign POLICY and i hope we talked about This on.
- 23:01Speaker 3: VERDICT before i hope that he uses tariffs as leverage
- 23:05Speaker 3: to open up. FOREIGN markets i don't want a world
- 23:07Speaker 3: where we have high teriffs, for EVERYONE but i do
- 23:09Speaker 3: think tariffs are very, powerful LEVERAGE and i think the
- 23:13Speaker 3: president has ample authority to continue.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Using them, you.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Know it's interesting.
- 23:17Speaker 2: About this when, it happened there was two people that were,
- 23:20Speaker 2: really celebrating, TWO groups i, should Say The democratic Party.
- 23:24Speaker 2: And China and china was really. Celebrating this and then
- 23:28Speaker 2: they were talking about buying soybean crops from other countries Instead,
- 23:31Speaker 2: of america and that was like one of the big
- 23:33Speaker 2: things that really blew up in the media on. Social
- 23:36Speaker 2: media and then you have the same excitement From The
- 23:39Speaker 2: Chinese communist party as you did From The. Democratic party
- 23:42Speaker 2: that tells me an awful lot about this tariff. War
- 23:46Speaker 2: issue this is Just, two democrats not about what's Best,
- 23:49Speaker 2: for america not about us having better. Trade deal it's
- 23:52Speaker 2: not About saving american Jobs or, american manufacturing protecting that
- 23:57Speaker 2: or bringing jobs back to this country in manufacturing and
- 24:00Speaker 2: Bringing back american businesses to. Our soil they Just Want
- 24:03Speaker 2: donald trump. To lose and they're on the same Team
- 24:06Speaker 2: with china on.
- 24:06Speaker 1: This.
- 24:07Speaker 3: One, yeah look That's where, democrats are that's where much
- 24:10Speaker 3: of the. Media is let me walk through. Two Things,
- 24:12Speaker 3: number one there's gonna be. Some chaos one of THE
- 24:15Speaker 3: reasons i didn't think the court would do what they
- 24:16Speaker 3: did is you've got hundreds of billions of dollars of.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Tariffs that's going to. Be collected there's gonna be.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Massive litigation everyone that's paid the tariffs is going to
- 24:25Speaker 3: look AT do i, go BACK do?
- 24:26Speaker 4: I SUE do i try to.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Collect it it's going to vary in terms of whether
- 24:31Speaker 3: they filed a timely protest to. THE tariffs i think
- 24:34Speaker 3: some of, those tariffs the litigation result is going to,
- 24:37Speaker 3: be no you can't get it back because you didn't timely.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Protest it some of the people who paid tariffs will
- 24:44Speaker 3: have timely, protested it and so there's a very good
- 24:47Speaker 3: chance this is going To cost american taxpayers billions, of
- 24:50Speaker 3: dollars maybe even tens of billions of dollars. Or more
- 24:53Speaker 3: that litigation chaos will will unfold.
- 24:56Speaker 4: FOR years i didn't think the court would.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Do that but terms of the president's ability to, do
- 25:01Speaker 3: this so let me walk through some of the different
- 25:03Speaker 3: statutes that. Are available there is, number one section three
- 25:07Speaker 3: three eight Of The teriff act of nineteen thirty that's
- 25:09Speaker 3: Actually The Smoot, holly act which authorizes the president to
- 25:13Speaker 3: impose teriffs of up to fifty percent on imports from
- 25:18Speaker 3: any country that quote DISCRIMINATES against.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Us businesses the.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Statute is vague and it, is short and no president
- 25:27Speaker 3: has used, this authority so it's, uncharted area but it
- 25:30Speaker 3: remains on the.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Statute book so that's.
- 25:32Speaker 3: One area, another area which is where the president went pretty,
- 25:38Speaker 3: much Immediately is section one twenty two Of The trade
- 25:43Speaker 3: act of nineteen. Seventy Four the section one twenty two
- 25:46Speaker 3: Gives the president the power to impose duties of up
- 25:48Speaker 3: to fifteen percent for up to one hundred and fifty
- 25:52Speaker 3: days in order to address quote large and serious balance of.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Payments deficits congress has to vote to extend them past
- 26:00Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty, day limit or else the, duties
- 26:03Speaker 3: expire But the president is able to reissue them.
- 26:07Speaker 4: On expiration.
- 26:10Speaker 3: This is What the president used as a result immediately
- 26:14Speaker 3: to impose the fifteen. Percent tariff so that's, one avenue
- 26:18Speaker 3: and then that there are a couple Of other section
- 26:21Speaker 3: three oh one Of The trade act of nineteen seventy
- 26:23Speaker 3: four AUTHORIZES The Us trade representative to investigate and act
- 26:27Speaker 3: upon results of an investigation revealing unfair. Trade practices section
- 26:34Speaker 3: three oh one has been used quite. A bit in twenty,
- 26:36Speaker 3: twenty Four the biden administration opened three investigations under section
- 26:41Speaker 3: three oh one and determined that the countries had violated
- 26:47Speaker 3: violated the. Provisions there that's also What in trump's, SECOND
- 26:54Speaker 3: Administration Us trade representative's office has opened a three oh
- 26:57Speaker 3: one Investigation into Brazil, and china and they're considering One.
- 27:01Speaker 3: For korea so section three oh one takes. An investigation
- 27:05Speaker 3: it's a, little slower but it gives more potent. Tariff
- 27:07Speaker 3: authority there Is also section two thirty two Of The
- 27:12Speaker 3: Trade expansion act in nineteen, sixty two and that allows
- 27:16Speaker 3: the president to impose restrictions on goods and imports and
- 27:21Speaker 3: following an investigation if it's found that the imports quote
- 27:26Speaker 3: threatened TO impair us. National Security so trump has used
- 27:30Speaker 3: that for steel imports and. Aluminum imports in twenty, twenty
- 27:35Speaker 3: five he expanded steel and, aluminum tariffs increasing the aluminum
- 27:39Speaker 3: rate to twenty, five percent eliminating all. Country exemptions, to
- 27:44Speaker 3: Date the trump administration has launched Twelve different section two thirty,
- 27:48Speaker 3: two investigations. Concluded five and then There's finally section two
- 27:54Speaker 3: oh one Of The trade active of nineteen, seventy four
- 27:57Speaker 3: which permits temporary safeguard tariffs to protect domestic industries from
- 28:03Speaker 3: serious injury caused by. Import surges trump Has used SECTION
- 28:08Speaker 3: two a one to put tariffs on, solar cells, on modules.
- 28:12Speaker 4: And in residential.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Washing machines look the long and short, Of it you
- 28:16Speaker 3: guys don't need to memorize all those different. Section numbers
- 28:19Speaker 3: the point is they're a bunch of different federal laws
- 28:23Speaker 3: that give the president a bunch of authority to. Impost
- 28:28Speaker 3: tariffs the lawyers and the administration will work a little,
- 28:31Speaker 3: bit Harder As justice, kavanaugh said in, the sense at
- 28:34Speaker 3: the end of, the Day The supreme, court, said well
- 28:36Speaker 3: you check the wrong box and you pick the, wrong
- 28:38Speaker 3: statute so these tariffs. Don't apply but the bottom line
- 28:42Speaker 3: is going to Be the president's going to be able
- 28:43Speaker 3: to get there using.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Other, means yeah it's going to be interesting to see
- 28:47Speaker 2: How the president also responds on the say Of the union.
- 28:49Speaker 1: TO this i have a feeling it's gonna be.
- 28:51Speaker 2: PRETTY blunt i love when they ASKED and i what
- 28:53Speaker 2: do you Say this justice. Still invited he, goes yes,
- 28:56Speaker 2: but barely which kind of made. Me laugh, it's, like
- 28:58Speaker 2: yeah that's never don't Moment With donald trump on. THIS
- 29:01Speaker 2: stuff i have a feeling it's gonna be a, very
- 29:03Speaker 2: fun Say the union to watch all, right center and
- 29:06Speaker 2: finally we get to end on a really really, fun
- 29:08Speaker 2: note the hockey game And, the Olympics like America.
- 29:13Speaker 1: VERSUS canada i love how sports brings.

- 30:19Speaker 3: Quite right and and it was just it's a. Spectacular

- 30:32Speaker 3: draped themselves in. The flag they didn't engage in the
- 30:34Speaker 3: sort of petulant that they are playing for the country
- 30:39Speaker 3: in a way that just makes. You proud that's what
- 30:41Speaker 3: you want. To see our athletes like standing up for,
- 30:43Speaker 3: our country not using it for for whatever their particular
- 30:47Speaker 3: political agenda is for, the moment but just proud to Be.
