- 0:01Speaker 1: Former President Donald Trump meeting with the GOP for a luncheon.
- 0:07Speaker 1: In my own mind, does it seem different in twenty
- 0:10Speaker 1: twenty four than it did in twenty sixteen. The President
- 0:14Speaker 1: coming out to talk to the reporters after meeting with
- 0:19Speaker 1: GOP lawmakers, having this lunch, and I want you to
- 0:23Speaker 1: hear what he had to say. This is something Joe
- 0:26Speaker 1: Biden could not pull off.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Great meeting, this tremendous unity in the Republican Party. We
- 0:32Speaker 2: want to see borders, we want to see strong military.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We want to see money not wasted all over the world.
- 0:40Speaker 2: We don't want to see Russian ships right off the
- 0:43Speaker 2: coast of Florida, which is what they are right now.
- 0:46Speaker 2: That's unthinkable. We want to see just success for our country,
- 0:51Speaker 2: and we don't have success right now.
- 0:53Speaker 3: We have inflation that's killing everybody.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We have levels of inflation that nobody see for They
- 1:01Speaker 2: say forty two years, they say fifty three years, and
- 1:03Speaker 2: they say seventy five years.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I would say probably all of them are wrong.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Probably we've never seen levels like this before.
- 1:10Speaker 3: And we're going to end that.
- 1:11Speaker 2: We're gonna bring back our jobs, We're gonna bring back
- 1:14Speaker 2: common sense to government.
- 1:16Speaker 3: We're gonna have strong borders, and we're gonna.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Have people come into our country, but they're going to
- 1:21Speaker 2: come in legally. They're not going to pour in from
- 1:23Speaker 2: prisons all over South America and all over the world.
- 1:26Speaker 2: And it's not just South America, by the way, it's
- 1:28Speaker 2: all over the world. And we're not going to have
- 1:30Speaker 2: them pour in from mental institutions, which is where they're
- 1:33Speaker 2: coming from. Large numbers, and large numbers are terrorists, and
- 1:37Speaker 2: we're not going to have this. So what's happening to
- 1:41Speaker 2: our country is of great concern to the group of
- 1:44Speaker 2: people standing alongside of me, and I just wanted to
- 1:48Speaker 2: say that we have great unity, we have great common sense,
- 1:52Speaker 2: a lot of very smart people in this room, and
- 1:54Speaker 2: a lot of people that love our country. They love
- 1:56Speaker 2: our country beyond just about all else. The only thing
- 2:00Speaker 2: that maybe supersedes it is their family and maybe their
- 2:03Speaker 2: faith in certain instances, and that's very nice. But they
- 2:07Speaker 2: want this country to be great again, and we're going
- 2:09Speaker 2: to make it great again. And so I just want
- 2:12Speaker 2: to thank the Republican Senate, and I want to thank
- 2:15Speaker 2: also the House. We met, as you know, with the
- 2:19Speaker 2: full house Republican House today and we had a tremendous
- 2:23Speaker 2: meeting with them also, and there's great unity. Very similar
- 2:28Speaker 2: different topics actually, but not that different. And there's one
- 2:33Speaker 2: thing in common. We want to make America great again.
- 2:35Speaker 2: We want to make our country great again. We're a
- 2:37Speaker 2: nation that's in decline. We're declining nation. We're a nation
- 2:40Speaker 2: that is being left at all over the world. We
- 2:43Speaker 2: have a leader that's being left at all over the world,
- 2:46Speaker 2: and we're going.
- 2:48Speaker 3: To turn it around. We're going to turn it around fast.
- 2:50Speaker 2: The polls are looking like they're very strongly for us,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and no matter where you look. In fact, a lot
- 2:57Speaker 2: of states that people thought weren't in play a very
- 2:59Speaker 2: strong in place somewhere actually leading in But we have
- 3:03Speaker 2: to get elected.
- 3:04Speaker 3: We have to take this.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Beautiful place and we have to make it really something
- 3:10Speaker 2: very special again. Right now, it's not special right now,
- 3:12Speaker 2: it's being scorned and being used as an example of
- 3:16Speaker 2: when they look at the crime on the streets, when
- 3:18Speaker 2: they look at all of the problems that we have.
- 3:21Speaker 2: They're using us as a bad example of democracy and
- 3:25Speaker 2: they're getting away with murder, and we're not going to
- 3:28Speaker 2: let it happen. So I just want to thank you
- 3:30Speaker 2: for coming, and I want to thank everybody here. You're
- 3:32Speaker 2: all either elected or you're going to be elected again
- 3:34Speaker 2: and re elected, and I'm with every one of you,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and you know that I'll be with you always, and
- 3:40Speaker 2: thank you very much for inviting me. And we're gonna
- 3:43Speaker 2: have great success. I think we're going to have a
- 3:45Speaker 2: tremendous election. It's November fifth, is very important, but we
- 3:50Speaker 2: really start much earlier than that. You have North Carolina
- 3:53Speaker 2: as an example. You have North Carolina or September sixth.
- 3:56Speaker 2: You have Pennsylvania starts on September twenty second.
- 4:00Speaker 3: These are things different from the old days.
- 4:02Speaker 2: We had election day and you had paper ballots and
- 4:05Speaker 2: you had voter ID. Unfortunately, maybe someday we'll get back
- 4:09Speaker 2: to that, but you don't have that right now. But
- 4:13Speaker 2: this is an outstanding group of people. I'm with them
- 4:15Speaker 2: a thousand percent. There was me a thousand percent. We
- 4:18Speaker 2: agree just about on everything, and if there isn't, we
- 4:22Speaker 2: work it out. And I've had a really great relationship
- 4:27Speaker 2: with just about everybody here, with everybody here, just about
- 4:31Speaker 2: all of the senators, and if it wasn't fantastic, it
- 4:35Speaker 2: gets worked out. And we have one thing in mind,
- 4:38Speaker 2: and that's making our country great, So.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Thank you all very much. We appreciate you being here.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Thank you very much.
- 4:47Speaker 1: You're going to hear the clapping of the senators who
- 4:50Speaker 1: just had lunch for them, and you can hear the
- 4:53Speaker 1: reporters losing their minds, the reporters behind them yelling at
- 5:01Speaker 1: him questions. He's shaking hands with every senator that's there,
- 5:06Speaker 1: Republican they just had lunch with. This was obviously a
- 5:11Speaker 1: very very very big moment and a different moment for
- 5:14Speaker 1: the Republican Party. I want to make that clear. You
- 5:18Speaker 1: look at the President of the United States of America
- 5:20Speaker 1: and look, he did not have this type of unity
- 5:23Speaker 1: in twenty sixteen. You had a lot of Democrats and
- 5:27Speaker 1: you had a lot of Republicans. When he was elected,
- 5:32Speaker 1: they didn't like him. They were Republicans that didn't like him.
- 5:36Speaker 1: This type of press conference, last statement would have never
- 5:40Speaker 1: happened in twenty sixteen. It's happening now. And the reason
- 5:45Speaker 1: why is because they're learning, they're understanding, and they're learning
- 5:51Speaker 1: that if you're not united and you're not together, you're
- 5:55Speaker 1: gonna get beat. And there's a lot of people that
- 5:58Speaker 1: are sick and tired of losing. There's a lot of
- 6:02Speaker 1: people that are very angry in this country that the
- 6:04Speaker 1: Republican Party has not been able traditionally to kind of
- 6:07Speaker 1: get it together and unify and work together. Democrats do
- 6:13Speaker 1: an excellent job of getting together uniting together when they
- 6:20Speaker 1: get power, when they get elected, they work as a
- 6:23Speaker 1: team instantly. Republicans we get power, and many times we
- 6:27Speaker 1: screw it up. But what I saw from the President
- 6:31Speaker 1: of United States of America in this conversation, what I
- 6:34Speaker 1: saw also on the faces of the Republican senators that
- 6:36Speaker 1: were standing around him after this luncheon, is that there
- 6:39Speaker 1: was a clear, I think understanding right now that it
- 6:43Speaker 1: is go time that we can't sit here and squander
- 6:49Speaker 1: if the president is re elected, we don't have time
- 6:53Speaker 1: for two years to kind of halfway do it. We've
- 6:57Speaker 1: got to be all in. We've got to be focused.
- 7:01Speaker 1: We've got to have our game together, our plan together,
- 7:04Speaker 1: the legislative agenda together. We can't have infighting this time.
- 7:09Speaker 1: We can't have people that are sitting on the sidelines.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We can't have people whose feelings are hurt. And what
- 7:16Speaker 1: I witnessed in this was very authentic and real center
- 7:20Speaker 1: Ted Cruz. Many of you know a Coast a podcasts
- 7:23Speaker 1: Verdict with Ted Cruz. He was at the luncheon. Has
- 7:27Speaker 1: he described it, He said, Ben, this is something I've
- 7:29Speaker 1: never seen before, watching the way that others were acting
- 7:33Speaker 1: towards the president. He said, I've never seen this before
- 7:37Speaker 1: watching not just that, but the enthusiasm in the room.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Like there's a very very different mentality this time from
- 7:47Speaker 1: the room. Right. Like in the past, you've had some
- 7:50Speaker 1: that have been very excited and very focused. Right, you
- 7:53Speaker 1: have some that are are are working, but you have
- 7:55Speaker 1: others that just kind of, you know, they go the
- 7:57Speaker 1: other direction. Names I'm sure if you really want to
- 8:02Speaker 1: talk about that, I'll give you example. People like Mitt Romney.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Mitt Romney was never a team player. Mitt Romney was
- 8:11Speaker 1: somebody that was undermining Donald Trump in twenty sixteen after
- 8:17Speaker 1: he didn't pick him for a job, a cabinet position,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and so then he wanted his revenge. That's the type
- 8:22Speaker 1: of Republican infightingments that it terrifies me. And now what
- 8:27Speaker 1: we're seeing is it seems that we've gotten rid of
- 8:29Speaker 1: the Romneys. Right, he's not running for reelection, He's going
- 8:32Speaker 1: to be gone, and those types of people are no
- 8:35Speaker 1: longer sitting there trying to screw the President of the
- 8:38Speaker 1: United States of America every chance they get. They've lost
- 8:42Speaker 1: that power, and that room yesterday was about putting American first,
- 8:49Speaker 1: securing our southern border, protecting our kids from this radical
- 8:56Speaker 1: leftist agenda that is dealing with grooming and and transgenderism
- 9:01Speaker 1: and all of this insanity in our classrooms. They're not
- 9:07Speaker 1: afraid to say that, Yes, many of those come across
- 9:09Speaker 1: southern border are terrorists. Yes, many of the coming across
- 9:13Speaker 1: the southern border are rapists, are murderers. Our drug dealers
- 9:16Speaker 1: are killing our kids with fetanol. That's what's changed as well.
- 9:22Speaker 1: In fact, I want you to hear just part of
- 9:25Speaker 1: what Center Cruz had to say on our podcast. We
- 9:28Speaker 1: do vertic with Tech Cruz about this meeting, because he
- 9:31Speaker 1: was in there behind closed doors, and I want you
- 9:34Speaker 1: to hear what he said about what was actually talked
- 9:36Speaker 1: about with the President behind closed door with the Republican
- 9:40Speaker 1: senators and Donald Trump before the press commerce that you
- 9:43Speaker 1: just heard. Listen, Senator, this was a very interesting moment
- 9:47Speaker 1: on Capitol Hill. Donald Trump came and met with a
- 9:51Speaker 1: lot of the Republican leadership. A lot of your colleagues
- 9:55Speaker 1: were there, and the initial reports that came out were
- 9:59Speaker 1: saying it was a lot of enthusiasm and a lot
- 10:02Speaker 1: of excitement from the Republican leaders that were there. You
- 10:06Speaker 1: were in the room, tell us what was happening. So
- 10:08Speaker 1: I was.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Trump began the day by meeting with the House Republicans.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I was not in that meeting. Some of the reports
- 10:15Speaker 4: of that as that was a little bit wild and wooly,
- 10:17Speaker 4: that got into all sorts of topics. But Trump came
- 10:20Speaker 4: by the Senate to have lunch with us, and so
- 10:22Speaker 4: we met at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is
- 10:26Speaker 4: like three blocks away from the Capitol, and Trump joined
- 10:30Speaker 4: us for the lunch and it started.
- 10:32Speaker 1: We're all sitting in a room.
- 10:34Speaker 4: It started with him talking for about oh, twenty twenty
- 10:37Speaker 4: five minutes, and then we did a whole series of
- 10:40Speaker 4: Q and A where probably about a dozen of us
- 10:42Speaker 4: asked him questions and he commented on those. And then
- 10:45Speaker 4: we went out and we did a press conference where
- 10:47Speaker 4: we stood we all stood behind him, and he stood
- 10:50Speaker 4: up and gave the press conference and listen. I gotta say,
- 10:54Speaker 4: the biggest thing about the lunch that struck me was
- 10:58Speaker 4: the unity in the room. The media likes to talk
- 11:01Speaker 4: about divisions and the Republican Party, and there are certainly some,
- 11:04Speaker 4: but today I didn't see any of that.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Today.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Everyone in the room was focused on winning in November
- 11:12Speaker 4: and turning the country around. And Trump was in great spirits.
- 11:15Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:16Speaker 4: One of the things I asked him after the meeting.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I came up and spent a couple of minutes talking
- 11:21Speaker 4: with him. I just asked, how are you doing. I mean,
- 11:23Speaker 4: it's been this BS you're dealing with with these New
- 11:26Speaker 4: York convictions.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They're utter garbage.
- 11:29Speaker 4: But listen, it's not fun to be convicted of felonies.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I mean, it's been He's been through hell. And so
- 11:37Speaker 4: just as a personal level, I was asking him how
- 11:39Speaker 4: he was doing, and he said he was doing fine,
- 11:41Speaker 4: and it seemed real and genuine. I mean, he was
- 11:43Speaker 4: not he was not down in the dumps. He was
- 11:46Speaker 4: not discouraged. In fact, was he was really in good spirits.
- 11:50Speaker 4: He was optimistic, and his message to everyone is listen,
- 11:54Speaker 4: let's stand together. And he emphasized several things. Number one,
- 11:58Speaker 4: he emphasized the border, that we've got to secure the border.
- 12:00Speaker 4: That is insane, that we have open borders, that it's
- 12:03Speaker 4: an invitation to terrorists, and he's exactly right. If and
- 12:07Speaker 4: when Trump wins, we will secure the border in the
- 12:10Speaker 4: first month or two of the next Trump administration. And
- 12:14Speaker 4: I can say that because we know how to do it.
- 12:16Speaker 4: We did it before, and we'll do it again. He
- 12:19Speaker 4: also talked a lot about inflation and energy in particular,
- 12:24Speaker 4: and he pointed out quite rightly that energy is foundational
- 12:27Speaker 4: to inflation. And one of the reasons that prices have
- 12:29Speaker 4: gone up on just about everything is that energy prices
- 12:32Speaker 4: of skyrocketed because the Biden administration has been waging war
- 12:37Speaker 4: on American energy and we are an energy powerhouse where
- 12:41Speaker 4: the number one producer of oil in the world, where
- 12:43Speaker 4: the number one producer of natural gas in the world,
- 12:45Speaker 4: and the Biden administration is doing everything they can to
- 12:48Speaker 4: stifle that. And Trump was very clear that that we're
- 12:52Speaker 4: going to reverse that. We will reverse that fast early
- 12:56Speaker 4: next year, and that's going to have a real impact
- 12:58Speaker 4: on energy prices and inflam should across the board. We
- 13:01Speaker 4: also talked about national security and in particular how insane
- 13:06Speaker 4: it is that the Biden administration has flowed one hundred
- 13:09Speaker 4: billion dollars to Iran, and if and when Trump wins.
- 13:12Speaker 4: That's going to end as well.
- 13:14Speaker 1: You mentioned a moment ago that there seemed to be
- 13:17Speaker 1: unity in the room. That's incredibly important for getting legislation passed. Yes,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and you need that, and we didn't have that type
- 13:26Speaker 1: of unity, I would argue last time in twenty sixteen,
- 13:30Speaker 1: early on, there was some splinters, there were some divide
- 13:34Speaker 1: divisiveness in the House that Senate side. What you seem
- 13:37Speaker 1: to be describing this time is if Donald Trump is
- 13:40Speaker 1: elected and Republicans have control of the House Senate, it's
- 13:43Speaker 1: game on from the from January tewod there's not going
- 13:47Speaker 1: to be you know, let's get to know each other
- 13:49Speaker 1: time and have some meetings and maybe come over the
- 13:51Speaker 1: White House like there's an agenda and it's ready to
- 13:54Speaker 1: go for the American people.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I think that's exactly right.
- 13:57Speaker 4: And let me put it in broader context, which is
- 13:59Speaker 4: y yesterday, the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, came
- 14:03Speaker 4: and had lunch with all the Republican senators. And by
- 14:06Speaker 4: the way, that almost never happens. When Paul Ryan was speaker,
- 14:09Speaker 4: he didn't do that. When John Bayner was Speaker, he
- 14:11Speaker 4: didn't do that. When Kevin McCarthy was Speaker.
- 14:14Speaker 1: He didn't do that.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Mike Johnson has done that this multiple times. This is
- 14:17Speaker 4: either the third or fourth time he's come and had
- 14:20Speaker 4: lunch with all the Senate Republicans. I think that's great.
- 14:23Speaker 4: He was talking at lunch yesterday. He said, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 4: it's amazing that the media treats it as a news
- 14:28Speaker 4: story that the House and Senator talking to each other.
- 14:31Speaker 4: And the reason he came over and talked to us
- 14:34Speaker 4: is is he said, he's focused on his end, very
- 14:38Speaker 4: much on developing the agenda and the plans to hit
- 14:43Speaker 4: the ground running if and when we win in November,
- 14:45Speaker 4: if we come in to January of next year with
- 14:48Speaker 4: a Republican president, a Republican Senate, Republican House, we got
- 14:52Speaker 4: an enormous amount to accomplish. And the Speaker, to his credit,
- 14:57Speaker 4: is very focused on the first hundred days. What can
- 14:59Speaker 4: we pomplish, what can we do to change the path
- 15:02Speaker 4: of the country. I encouraged him to dig in on that.
- 15:06Speaker 4: In fact, I shared with a speaker and with everyone
- 15:09Speaker 4: else in the room.
- 15:11Speaker 1: You know a lot of.
- 15:11Speaker 4: The senators that are there now were not there back
- 15:15Speaker 4: in twenty seventeen when Trump first became president.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:18Speaker 4: The Speaker said, look, when Trump first became president, he
- 15:21Speaker 4: was a freshman, he was brand new in the Congress,
- 15:23Speaker 4: and he was amazed that the Congress was not prepared
- 15:27Speaker 4: with the legislative agenda from day one. And he pointed
- 15:30Speaker 4: out that he thought a lot of Republicans were surprised
- 15:33Speaker 4: that Trump won. They were expecting Hillary to win, and
- 15:37Speaker 4: so when the administration came in, they weren't ready for primetime.
- 15:40Speaker 4: They didn't know what to do. In this instance, I'm
- 15:43Speaker 4: very glad the Speaker is trying to think proactively. And
- 15:45Speaker 4: I described I described something that I did back in
- 15:49Speaker 4: the summer of twenty eighteen. So summer of twenty eighteen,
- 15:53Speaker 4: we did a lunch with all the Senate Republicans and
- 15:59Speaker 4: I prepared a PowerPoint. It was about fifty pages long,
- 16:03Speaker 4: and I spoke to my colleagues probably the better part
- 16:05Speaker 4: of an hour. And the title of the power point
- 16:09Speaker 4: was carpe dim And what I did in the power
- 16:12Speaker 4: point is I looked in the past, in previous instances
- 16:18Speaker 4: when one party controlled the White House, the House, and
- 16:21Speaker 4: the Senate.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It happens pretty rarely.
- 16:23Speaker 4: When the Democrats do it, they fundamentally transformed the country.
- 16:28Speaker 4: So in the last century. The first time they did it,
- 16:32Speaker 4: they passed the New Deal. The second time they did it,
- 16:35Speaker 4: they passed the Great Society. The third time they did it,
- 16:39Speaker 4: they passed Obamacare and Dodd Frank And now for the
- 16:43Speaker 4: last two years we've seen they've spent us into an
- 16:46Speaker 4: absolute inflation and recession.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Home. Former President Trump went and met with Senate Republicans
- 16:54Speaker 1: as well as the House Republicans in a really focused,
- 17:00Speaker 1: an incredible show of unity. This is something we had
- 17:04Speaker 1: not seen before in this scenario where the Republican Party
- 17:07Speaker 1: certainly not in twenty sixteen. Why were they meeting not
- 17:10Speaker 1: just to show unity, but to get their act together
- 17:13Speaker 1: and have an agenda. If Republicans gain control of the Senate,
- 17:18Speaker 1: keep the House, and grab the White House, they're ready
- 17:22Speaker 1: to go day one, not sitting around like twenty sixteen
- 17:25Speaker 1: trying to figure out what to do. The agenda and
- 17:28Speaker 1: the unity is about getting stuff done. We should excite
- 17:33Speaker 1: every single American listening right now. If you have a
- 17:37Speaker 1: Republican government, then you better do something with it. And
- 17:42Speaker 1: that's exactly what Senata Cruz said their conversation was about.
- 17:46Speaker 1: It was exactly what needed to be talked about. Take
- 17:50Speaker 1: a listen.
- 17:51Speaker 4: And on the other hand, Republicans, when we have unified control,
- 17:56Speaker 4: we tend to do small and piddling things. So what
- 17:59Speaker 4: I argue in the PowerPoint is, at the time I
- 18:04Speaker 4: presented it was August of twenty eighteen, I said, listen,
- 18:08Speaker 4: any rational political observer recognizes that there's a very real
- 18:13Speaker 4: chance that we will lose at least one House of
- 18:14Speaker 4: Congress in November. And I said to my colleagues, particularly
- 18:19Speaker 4: the guys who were the sophomores, who were the people
- 18:21Speaker 4: who had been elected two years earlier, and I said,
- 18:26Speaker 4: look for you, guys, we have one hundred and eighty
- 18:29Speaker 4: three days till the next Congress. For many of you,
- 18:33Speaker 4: if we do not pass things now, you will never
- 18:37Speaker 4: again have another chance to pass anything into law. And
- 18:40Speaker 4: so I put together a spreadsheet. It was about fifty
- 18:42Speaker 4: different bills. All of the bills had been written by
- 18:46Speaker 4: different Republican senators. Some I had written, but most of
- 18:49Speaker 4: them were my colleagues. And all of the bills were
- 18:53Speaker 4: bills that had a reasonable prospect of garnering fifty one votes.
- 18:59Speaker 4: They were fringe things that would get ten or twelve votes.
- 19:02Speaker 4: There were all things that would easily get forty five
- 19:06Speaker 4: Republicans and that had a real shot at getting fifty.
- 19:09Speaker 4: And what I argued is, I said, listen, this is
- 19:12Speaker 4: going to sound radical to you, Ben, we should do something,
- 19:21Speaker 4: we should not do nothing. Amazingly enough, that argument proved unpersuasive.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Mitch McConnell said, well, so the principal avenue that if
- 19:35Speaker 4: you look, the biggest legislative victory of the Trump years
- 19:39Speaker 4: was the twenty seventeen tax cuts. We passed that using
- 19:43Speaker 4: what's called budget reconciliation. Budget reconciliation is a process under
- 19:49Speaker 4: a bill called the Budget acted nineteen seventy five. The
- 19:53Speaker 4: budget piece is not terribly consequential. What's consequential is, under
- 19:56Speaker 4: the terms of the statute, you have an up down
- 20:00Speaker 4: vote at fifty votes and it can't be filibustered. So
- 20:03Speaker 4: it's one of the most important exceptions to the filibuster
- 20:08Speaker 4: we could have. If you look at the Democrats, they
- 20:10Speaker 4: did three budget reconciliations. It's how they passed almost all
- 20:15Speaker 4: of their agenda. That put us in this hole. When
- 20:18Speaker 4: the Republicans had the majority, we did only one budget reconciliation.
- 20:22Speaker 4: We did not do a single one in twenty eighteen,
- 20:25Speaker 4: which Frankly, Ben is indefensible, and so I made the
- 20:28Speaker 4: case of the speaker and my colleagues, Let's not make
- 20:30Speaker 4: that mistake again. Let's hit the ground running.
- 20:34Speaker 1: This seems different. And even when I say different, there's
- 20:38Speaker 1: also a lot of people behind the scenes that are
- 20:40Speaker 1: working on putting together a Trump administration and a government
- 20:44Speaker 1: and learning from the mistakes that happened in twenty sixteen.
- 20:48Speaker 1: How encouraged are you by that? I mean, I've had
- 20:51Speaker 1: quite a few people I know that I've talked to
- 20:54Speaker 1: in many different areas of government who are saying, this
- 20:59Speaker 1: just feel different. This time. We learned from our mistakes
- 21:03Speaker 1: in sixteen. We learn from our inaction and people that
- 21:07Speaker 1: we should have replaced and changed with conservative minds, and
- 21:11Speaker 1: we've witnessed what happens when you do that. But this
- 21:13Speaker 1: time it's going to be different. That may be the
- 21:15Speaker 1: thing I'm the most excited about is if we had,
- 21:18Speaker 1: like you mentioned, a House and Senate ready to go,
- 21:21Speaker 1: but also many of the bureaucrats that have been changed
- 21:25Speaker 1: out very quickly this time. That seems to be the plan. Well.
- 21:28Speaker 4: In twenty sixteen, I think Trump's winning surprised a lot
- 21:33Speaker 4: of people. It surprised a lot of Republicans in the Senate,
- 21:35Speaker 4: surprised a lot of Republicans in the House. It frankly
- 21:39Speaker 4: surprised the Trump campaign team, and I think it actually
- 21:41Speaker 4: surprised Trump himself. On election Day, I think they were
- 21:45Speaker 4: all a little bit startled that they had won and suddenly,
- 21:49Speaker 4: Holy cow, we're going to go do this now. And
- 21:53Speaker 4: so it resulted in when the administration came in in
- 21:57Speaker 4: the beginning of twenty seventeen, in cong the risk Republican
- 22:00Speaker 4: leadership of the House and Senate was not prepared with
- 22:03Speaker 4: an agenda because they had assumed Hillary was going to
- 22:06Speaker 4: win and they didn't need one, and and the White
- 22:08Speaker 4: House did not have the experience to know how to
- 22:12Speaker 4: drive an agenda. There was no first one hundred Days mission.
- 22:16Speaker 4: And you're right, there's a whole series of nonprofits that
- 22:19Speaker 4: that are engaged in laying out specific plans for executive orders,
- 22:24Speaker 4: for regulations, for for legislation uh and and whether it
- 22:29Speaker 4: is the America First Policy Institute or the Heritage Foundation
- 22:32Speaker 4: or others. I think if and when Trump wins this November,
- 22:38Speaker 4: we will hit January with a much much better level
- 22:42Speaker 4: of preparation to to to make a lasting difference immediately.
- 22:47Speaker 1: This, by the way, should make every conservative excited. You
- 22:52Speaker 1: can just tell that there's a difference this time around.
- 22:56Speaker 1: You heard him mentioned that, you know AFP and and
- 22:59Speaker 1: and Heritage Foundation. They are and have been for quite
- 23:03Speaker 1: some time, focused on having a government that is there
- 23:09Speaker 1: to support the president if he is re elected, and
- 23:14Speaker 1: a government that is ready to go day one. There
- 23:20Speaker 1: were a lot of bureaucrats that were not replaced when
- 23:23Speaker 1: Trump won in twenty sixteen, and we now know how
- 23:26Speaker 1: big of a mistake that was because they were undermining
- 23:30Speaker 1: Trump and there were a lot of positions, career positions
- 23:35Speaker 1: in DC that were being used to undermine the agenda
- 23:40Speaker 1: of the president of the United States of America. And
- 23:41Speaker 1: so you heard him mention that twenty twenty four project.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Let me just explain, because I know a lot about this.
- 23:49Speaker 1: There are people that were in the Trump administration in
- 23:53Speaker 1: twenty sixteen that saw how fast the president could be
- 23:58Speaker 1: undermined and how many different forces there were in Washington
- 24:04Speaker 1: that we're doing everything that could have stopped Trump instead
- 24:06Speaker 1: of support him. And what they've understood is, Okay, well,
- 24:11Speaker 1: we can't have that mistake again. And so what they're
- 24:15Speaker 1: putting together is a government right now. They are looking
- 24:20Speaker 1: and doing background checks and interviews and conversations with people
- 24:26Speaker 1: in every aspect because when I say there are tens
- 24:28Speaker 1: of thousands of jobs that will need to be filled,
- 24:31Speaker 1: there are literally tens of thousands of jobs that need
- 24:35Speaker 1: to be filled that we did not fill in twenty
- 24:38Speaker 1: sixteen by career people, individuals in Washington, d C. That
- 24:46Speaker 1: was a mistake. We should have filled them with people
- 24:49Speaker 1: that were on our team. Because when you win, you
- 24:51Speaker 1: put your team together, and if you don't, then they're
- 24:55Speaker 1: going to undermine you. That's what's going to happen. And
- 24:59Speaker 1: that's what happened to Trump in sixteen. And so it's
- 25:03Speaker 1: not just Trump winning that is big and something that
- 25:07Speaker 1: excites me. It's actually knowing that we have taken our
- 25:11Speaker 1: time over the last and this has been going on
- 25:13Speaker 1: now for since the mid terms, where there are people
- 25:16Speaker 1: that are saying, we were going to find the best
- 25:18Speaker 1: and the brightest in all of these different areas where
- 25:21Speaker 1: we were undermined, whether it's environmental issues, whether it's oil
- 25:24Speaker 1: and gas, whether it's parks in services, whether it's national
- 25:29Speaker 1: security issues, whether it's border security, whether it's it's it's
- 25:33Speaker 1: food stamps and government aid. There are so many different
- 25:38Speaker 1: categories and things that are important that we just didn't
- 25:43Speaker 1: put our people in there with our ideology in there,
- 25:46Speaker 1: and we should have, like, that's what we should have done.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And so that mistake we learned a very tough lesson.
- 25:54Speaker 1: And if you don't, then then you have basically an
- 25:57Speaker 1: entire government that is working again against you. And that's
- 26:01Speaker 1: what Donald Trump experience in twenty sixteen. So this level
- 26:07Speaker 1: of focus from the Senate Republicans, from the House Republicans,
- 26:15Speaker 1: this partnership. I go back to Speaker Johnson, the point
- 26:18Speaker 1: that Cruz just made a moment ago about Speaker Johnson
- 26:21Speaker 1: coming over multiple times and meeting with the Senate and
- 26:24Speaker 1: he said, this tells you what's wrong with Washington. They're
- 26:28Speaker 1: treating it like a news story. When the Speaker of
- 26:30Speaker 1: the House goes and meets with the Senate leadership in
- 26:32Speaker 1: the same party. Well, you have to have one. You
- 26:36Speaker 1: can't have one without the other. To get a law pass, right,
- 26:39Speaker 1: you have to have the Senate Republicans agree, and you
- 26:41Speaker 1: have to have the House Republicans agree. They should be
- 26:43Speaker 1: speaking all the time. But there was this divide in
- 26:45Speaker 1: our government. All Right, you guys in the Senate, you
- 26:47Speaker 1: stay on your side. You guys in the House, you
- 26:49Speaker 1: stay on your side. We'll talk and we get you
- 26:51Speaker 1: something to look at. That's not how you win. That's
- 26:55Speaker 1: not how you run a government successfully. Okay, I like,
- 27:01Speaker 1: that's not how this is done successfully. And so you
- 27:06Speaker 1: have a Speaker of the House that's meeting with us
- 27:09Speaker 1: that the Senate this is a great framework for success. Hey,
- 27:13Speaker 1: what do you guys need? Well, you know, tell me
- 27:14Speaker 1: what you're looking at. What are you thinking? All right, Well, look,
- 27:17Speaker 1: I don't think I got the votes to get that done.
- 27:19Speaker 1: So let's not waste their time on that, or let's
- 27:22Speaker 1: not do it that way, because then we're gonna have
- 27:23Speaker 1: to you know, reconciliation and we're gonna have to change that.
- 27:25Speaker 1: It's gonna it's gonna you know, you know, jam up
- 27:28Speaker 1: the system and we're gonna not get that done fast.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Stuff like these are conversations you'd rather have on the
- 27:33Speaker 1: front end than on than after the fact, because how
- 27:35Speaker 1: many times have you heard, Well, the House passed this,
- 27:37Speaker 1: but the Senate's gonna change it. They're gonna send it
- 27:38Speaker 1: back to the House, and it's gonna go back and forth.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Why why not talk on the front end and then
- 27:44Speaker 1: have a game plan that like for success. You also
- 27:50Speaker 1: want to know why Democrats are gonna do every single
- 27:52Speaker 1: thing they can to stop Trump from winning this time,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and why they're trying to put them in jail, and
- 27:57Speaker 1: why they're they they've they've weaponized the legal system against Trump.
- 28:00Speaker 1: It's because they understand that everything I just told you
- 28:03Speaker 1: is exactly what the Republicans are doing this time. And
- 28:06Speaker 1: the Republicans, learning from their past mistakes and being organized
- 28:10Speaker 1: day one terrifies the Democrats because they understand their career
- 28:15Speaker 1: people in the government in DC that were allowed to
- 28:18Speaker 1: keep their jobs last time will not be allowed to
- 28:20Speaker 1: keep their jobs this time, and undermine the president at
- 28:23Speaker 1: every turn and undermine the Republicans in every turn. And
- 28:26Speaker 1: now they understand, Okay, the Republicans have figured it out.
- 28:29Speaker 1: This is scary. We can't let them win. So if
- 28:33Speaker 1: you want to know how effective this plan could be,
- 28:36Speaker 1: look at how the Democrats are already doing everything they
- 28:39Speaker 1: can to undermine it. Please share this podcast with your
