- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome to Connecting the Dots. I'm Alex.
- 0:18And I'm Morgan. Great to be here. It is Thursday,
- 0:21August 21, 2025. We're here to help you make
- 0:24sense of the tech world, connecting those big
- 0:26headlines to what actually matters in your day
- 0:29to day. Exactly. Today we're looking at some
- 0:31really interesting stuff coming out of Google,
- 0:34based on the Morningstar report. It feels like
- 0:36they're doing this quiet, almost invisible overhaul
- 0:41of their hardware. Yeah, focusing on their own
- 0:43AI chips, user experience. It's less flash, more
- 0:48substance. No, totally. It impacts everything
- 0:50from earbuds to phones. But hey, before we jump
- 0:53into Google land, let's get a quick pulse check
- 0:55on the wider world. Good call. First up, weather
- 0:57here in Sacramento. Another hot one, folks. High
- 1:00of 102 Fahrenheit today. Stay cool. Definitely.
- 1:04Nationally, Hurricane Aaron is moving offshore
- 1:06from North Carolina, which is good news. but
- 1:08still seeing dangerous surf, rip currents, and
- 1:11some coastal flooding in the outer banks and
- 1:13mid -Atlantic. And that hazardous record heat
- 1:15continues out west, unfortunately. Looks like
- 1:18it'll stick around through the weekend. OK, quick
- 1:19look at the markets. As of Wednesday's close,
- 1:22the Dow was up just a tiny bit, 0 .03%, but it's
- 1:25still down slightly for the week, about 0 .06%.
- 1:28And the S &P fell under. Dipped a little yesterday,
- 1:310 .17%. Making it down about three -quarters
- 1:33of a percent for the week. All right and Bitcoin
- 1:36Bitcoin closed today Thursday at around a hundred
- 1:39thirteen thousand one hundred and seventy eight
- 1:41dollars that's down almost a percent on the day
- 1:43and Over two and a half percent down for the
- 1:45week. So yeah bit mix gotcha and Okay for our
- 1:50fellow Giants fans. Oh boy. Yeah, not great news
- 1:52They played the Padres yesterday August 20th
- 1:55and lost one to eight. Ouch Yeah, JP Sears pitch
- 1:58well for San Diego and Gavin Sheets hit two homers.
- 2:01Just wasn't our night. Nope. Definitely not Onwards
- 2:04and upwards. That's the spirit. Okay, let's shift
- 2:06gears time to get into the Morningstar tech report
- 2:08It's all Google today, right and we're kicking
- 2:10things off with something many of us use daily
- 2:12earbuds Google dropped two new pairs the pixel
- 2:15buds 2a and the pixel buds Pro 2 now the 2a caught
- 2:19my eye They're the budget option a hundred and
- 2:21twenty nine dollars and ninety nine out October
- 2:239th but they have active noise cancellation and
- 2:29Transparency mode that seems like a huge deal
- 2:31for the price How did they pull that off? It
- 2:33really is significant. The secret sauce here
- 2:36is Google putting their own chip, the Tensor
- 2:38A1, into these cheaper buds. Ah, the Tensor chip.
- 2:41Usually for the fancier stuff. Exactly. Think
- 2:43of it as a dedicated AI brain in the earbuds.
- 2:46It's not just a standard processor. It's built
- 2:48specifically for AI tasks like processing audio
- 2:51incredibly fast, like 90 times faster than sound
- 2:55itself. Wow, 90 times. OK, so that speed allows
- 2:57for real -time ANC and transparency. this lower
- 3:00price. Precisely. It analyzes the noise around
- 3:03you, your voice, and adjusts the noise canceling
- 3:05so smoothly you barely notice it happening. It's
- 3:07pretty clever. That sounds great. And they mentioned
- 3:09improved call quality too, using AI for wind
- 3:12and background noise. That's always needed. Definitely
- 3:14helpful for calls on the go. Battery life sounds
- 3:16decent too. 7 hours with ANC, 10 without, plus
- 3:19another 20 from the case. Okay, but here's something
- 3:21that really stood out. Repairability. The inside
- 3:25pops out to replace the battery. That feels...
- 3:30Unusual. Is this a bigger trend or just Google?
- 3:33That's a fantastic point. It's more than just
- 3:35a replaceable battery. It feels like Google is
- 3:38consciously leaning into the right to repair
- 3:40idea here. Putting it in a budget device like
- 3:43the 2A sends a really strong signal. It could
- 3:46push the industry a bit. And for you, the listener,
- 3:48it means these things could last much longer.
- 3:50You don't toss the whole unit when the battery
- 3:52wears out. Saves money, less e -waste. That's
- 3:54a genuine win. So great for commuters, students.
- 3:58Anyone meeting focus without breaking the bank.
- 4:01Exactly. Smart features, ANC, and longevity.
- 4:04Pretty compelling package. Okay, so from budget
- 4:06to flagship, let's talk Pixel Buds Pro 2. $229.
- 4:10Pre -orders open now. Available September 26th.
- 4:13First thing? They're smaller, 27 % smaller and
- 4:16lighter. Yeah, down to 4 .7 grams each. And they
- 4:18talked about this new twist -to -adjust stabilizer,
- 4:21basically a little rubber arc for better fit,
- 4:22especially during exercise. And they scanned
- 4:2445 million years to get the shape right. That's
- 4:27dedication. It's intense, right. But they're
- 4:29aiming for superior comfort and a really solid
- 4:32seal. Which is crucial for the audio claims they're
- 4:34making. Which are? Well, they developed the whole
- 4:37audio system, in -house 11mm drivers, plus that
- 4:40Tensor A1 chip again. They're calling the noise
- 4:43cancellation Silent Seal 2 .0 and claim it cancels
- 4:47twice as much noise as the original Pro. Twice
- 4:49as much? What does that even mean in practice?
- 4:51Like blocking out conversations traffic. That's
- 4:54the idea much wider range of noise cancellation
- 4:57Yeah, so yeah, think busy coffee shops airplane
- 4:59engines It should create a much deeper sense
- 5:03of immersion or you know Let you actually hear
- 5:06your podcast on the subway that could be game
- 5:08-changing and I saw something about conversation
- 5:10detection It turns off ANC when you talk. Yeah,
- 5:13that's super handy. You start talking, transparency
- 5:15mode kicks in automatically so you can chat.
- 5:17Then it fades back to ANC when you stop. Yeah.
- 5:19No more fiddling with controls for quick interactions.
- 5:22Brilliant. And call quality gets a boost too.
- 5:24Three mics per bud. Three mics plus upgraded
- 5:27AI algorithms for clearer calls. So yeah, these
- 5:31seem aimed squarely at power users, professionals,
- 5:35people who need top -tier noise cancellation
- 5:37and call clarity. And there's that Gemini Live
- 5:40feature too. Hey Google, let's talk live. What's
- 5:43that about? It's leaning into more seamless AI
- 5:45integration. Think potentially real -time translation
- 5:48or maybe proactive info during calls. It hints
- 5:52at where Google wants to take this AI -powered
- 5:54future. So, really interesting contrast. The
- 5:572A brings core smarts and ANC to a lower price,
- 6:00plus that repairability angle. The Pro 2 doubles
- 6:02down on performance, fit, and cutting edge features.
- 6:05And both heavily leverage that Tensor A1 chip.
- 6:08It's clear Google sees AI processing at the device
- 6:10level as fundamental across their lineup. Making
- 6:13them less like just headphones, more like smart
- 6:16audio companions. Exactly. Okay, so from your
- 6:18ears, let's move to your pocket. Charging. Ah,
- 6:20yes. The next story from the Morningstar report.
- 6:22Google's finally embracing magnetic wireless
- 6:25charging. They're calling it PixelSnap. It's
- 6:27basically their version of MagSafe, right? Pretty
- 6:29much, yeah. And it feels like a finally moment
- 6:32for a lot of Pixel users. The new Pixel 10 series
- 6:36will support the Q2 standard natively. Q2. That's
- 6:39the open standard. Right. It includes that magnetic
- 6:41alignment component. So magnets are built into
- 6:43the Pixel 10 phones themselves. You just bring
- 6:45the charger close and snap. It locks into place.
- 6:48No more fiddling. OK. That's convenient. But
- 6:50the big deal with Qi2 is compatibility, isn't
- 6:52it? It works with other Qi2 stuff, not just Google's.
- 6:55That's the crucial part, yes. Because it's Qi2,
- 6:58the Pixel 10 will work with a whole ecosystem
- 7:00of existing Qi2 chargers, stands, mounts, even
- 7:05many MagSafe accessories that adhere to the standard.
- 7:08So you're not locked into buying only Google's
- 7:10Pixel Snap gear. That's great news for choice
- 7:13and price. Absolutely. Though Google is launching
- 7:15their own lineup, of course. There's the Pixel
- 7:18Snap charger puck for $39 .99. It's Q2 certified
- 7:21and can deliver up to 25W wirelessly to the Pixel
- 7:2410 Pro XL. 25W wireless. That's pretty fast.
- 7:27It is. And they have a stand accessory you can
- 7:29bundle with the puck for about $70. They say
- 7:31it's sturdy enough even for the Pixel Fold. OK.
- 7:34What else? A neat little PixelSnap ring stand
- 7:37for $30. It's a magnetic ring that folds out
- 7:39so you can prop your phone up. Apparently it
- 7:41has a soft lining so you can rotate the phone
- 7:43without taking the ring off. Huh, clever. And
- 7:46cases. Yep, PixelSnap compatible cases, various
- 7:49colors, ranging from about $50 to $70. And they
- 7:53also announced a new dual -port 67W USB -C wall
- 7:57charger, the PixelFlex, for $60. Portable folding
- 8:01prongs prioritizes the Pixel when charging two
- 8:03things. Okay, so boiling it down for everyone
- 8:05listening. Pixel snap means no more guesswork
- 8:09lining up your phone on the charger. Right. Convenience
- 8:11number one. Plus, faster wireless charging 15W,
- 8:14generally with Q2, up to 25W for the Pro XL with
- 8:17the right charger. Yeah, a solid speed boost.
- 8:19And crucially, because it's Q2, you can tap into
- 8:22that huge existing market of magnetic accessories.
- 8:25You're not stuck in Google's garden. Exactly.
- 8:28More choice, more flexibility, magnetic stands,
- 8:30car mounts, wallets. It just makes using your
- 8:33phone throughout the day that much easier. It
- 8:34really feels like a necessary catch -up move
- 8:36for Pixel, but a very welcome one. It removes
- 8:38a daily friction point. Agreed. Embracing an
- 8:41open standard is always good for users. Alright,
- 8:43let's get to the main event from the report.
- 8:46The phones themselves. The Google Pixel 10 Pro
- 8:48and 10 Pro XL. The flagships. And like we hinted
- 8:52earlier, the story here isn't really about a
- 8:54radical new look, it's about what's inside. That
- 8:56invisible revolution. So design -wise, similar
- 8:59to the Pixel 9. Boxy, glass, matte back, shiny
- 9:03sides. Largely, yes. Subtle tweaks, new colors
- 9:07maybe, but the overall form factor is familiar.
- 9:09The Pro is 6 .3 inches, the Pro XL is 6 .8 inches,
- 9:13both OLED, very bright displays. Okay, let's
- 9:16get the practical stuff out of the way. Pricing
- 9:17and availability. Pre -orders start today, August
- 9:2021st. They'll be available next week, August
- 9:2228th. And the cost. The Pixel 10 Pro starts at
- 9:24$999 for 128 gigs of storage, goes up to $1 ,449
- 9:29for a terabyte. And the bigger XL. The Pro XL
- 9:32starts at $1 ,199, but that's for 256 gigs. No,
- 9:36128 gig option on the XL this year. It goes up
- 9:39to $1 ,549 for the terabyte model. Got it. So
- 9:42not cheap, but flagship prices. Now let's talk
- 9:44about those upgrades you can't see. What's the
- 9:46big deal internally? OK, first and foremost,
- 9:48Tensor G5. This is Google's first fully -custom
- 9:52chip. They designed it entirely in -house, and
- 9:54it's made by TSMC on their cutting -edge 3nm
- 9:57process. 3nm. That's really small, really efficient
- 10:00stuff, right? Yeah. What does that actually mean
- 10:02for me using the phone? It means potentially
- 10:05huge gains in performance and power efficiency.
- 10:08Google having full control lets them optimize
- 10:10everything for AI tasks. So think faster AI features,
- 10:15smoother overall operation, and hopefully significantly
- 10:17better battery life without needing a physically
- 10:20bigger battery necessary. OK, so the chip is
- 10:22a big leap. What else? Storage. They finally
- 10:25upgraded the storage system. It's called zoned
- 10:27UFS based on the newer, much faster UFS 4 .0
- 10:30standard. This has been overdue. Zoned UFS. How
- 10:33will I notice that? Apps opening faster. Exactly.
- 10:36Apps should launch quicker. Saving large files
- 10:38or photos should be faster. Games might load
- 10:40quicker. It reduces those little micro lags and
- 10:43stutters. Just makes the phone feel more responsive.
- 10:45Plus both phones get 16 gigs of RAM. Nice. OK,
- 10:48so faster chip, faster storage, lots of RAM.
- 10:51Sounds like a performance boost. What about battery
- 10:53life to support all that? Pretty substantial
- 10:55batteries. The 10 Pro gets 4870mAh with 29W wired
- 11:00charging. The 10 Pro XL gets a massive 500 -200mAh
- 11:04battery, their biggest ever, with 39W wired charging.
- 11:08Whoa! 5200mAh, that's huge! Combine that with
- 11:11the Efficient chip and the new Key2 wireless
- 11:13charging. What are they claiming for longevity?
- 11:16They're saying 30 plus hours of battery life,
- 11:18which is a jump from the 24 hours plus claim
- 11:21for the Pixel 9, that faster Q2 wireless charging
- 11:2415W on the Pro, 25W on the Pro XL, definitely
- 11:28helps too. That 30 plus number sounds great for
- 11:30power users, but does stuffing such a huge battery
- 11:33in the XL make it noticeably thicker or heavier?
- 11:35Is there a trade -off? That's always the question.
- 11:37Google seems to be relying on the G5's efficiency
- 11:39to maximize that capacity without making the
- 11:41phone feel like a brick. The physical dimensions
- 11:43haven't changed drastically, apparently. Okay.
- 11:45And cameras. Pitzels are known for cameras. Same
- 11:48hardware. The sensors themselves, yes, 50 MP
- 11:51main, 48 MP ultra wide, 48 MP 5x telephoto. But
- 11:56the software and the processing power of the
- 11:58Tensor G5 unlock new tricks. Like what? They're
- 12:01talking 100x hybrid zoom, thanks to better image
- 12:04processing. There's a Gemini -assisted camera
- 12:07coach that gives you tips in real time. Like
- 12:09a built -in photo tutor. Sort of, yeah. Auto
- 12:12best take. For group shots, it uses AI to find
- 12:15the best expressions from a burst of photos and
- 12:17merge them. Could solve the everyone blinking
- 12:20problem. Huh. That's actually useful. And macro
- 12:23shots are improved, too. Yeah. Now possible with
- 12:25both the ultra -wide and the telephoto lenses,
- 12:27giving you more flexibility for close -ups. OK.
- 12:30One more big change specifically for US listeners.
- 12:32This is important. No physical SIM card slot.
- 12:35Correct. In the US, the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro
- 12:38XL are going eSIM only. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold
- 12:41will still have a physical slot, but the main
- 12:42flagships won't. They support two active eSIMs
- 12:45and can store like eight or more profiles. Wow,
- 12:47okay. Outside the US, you still get the physical
- 12:50SIM. Yes. This change is US specific for now.
- 12:53So, eSIM. It's convenient for switching carriers
- 12:56or having multiple lines, sure. But what about
- 12:59people who aren't used to it? Or carriers that
- 13:02don't fully support it easily? Any hurdles there?
- 13:05Definitely potential hurdles. User familiarity
- 13:08is one, not everyone knows how eSIM works, and
- 13:10the setup, while often easy, isn't always as
- 13:13simple as just popping in a card. Carrier readiness
- 13:15varies too, but for travelers or people juggling
- 13:18work and personal numbers, it's a big convenience
- 13:21win. So overall, the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL
- 13:24are really about that internal power boost. The
- 13:27Tensor G5, faster storage, bigger batteries,
- 13:30smarter camera features, thanks to AI. Exactly.
- 13:33Their workhorse is designed for smooth performance
- 13:35and longevity, backed by that impressive seven
- 13:37years of OS and security updates. It really shows
- 13:40Google's strategy, doesn't it? Refining the outside,
- 13:43but revolutionizing the inside with their own
- 13:45silicon and AI smarts. It's about making the
- 13:47phone work better, maybe more subtly. That's
- 13:49a great way to put it. Less about flashy new
- 13:51looks, more about delivering a profoundly smarter,
- 13:53more capable experience that adapts to you. quiet
- 13:56power, like you said. And there you have it.
- 13:59A big day for Google in the Morningstar report.
- 14:02We covered the new Pixel Buds, the affordable
- 14:052A bringing ANC and repairability, and the Pro2
- 14:08pushing noise cancellation and fit, both driven
- 14:12by that Tensor AI chip. Then we talked about
- 14:14PixelSnap magnetic charging, finally bringing
- 14:16that snap -on ease and chew -to compatibility
- 14:19to the Pixel 10 line, opening up a world of accessories.
- 14:23And wrapping up with the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro
- 14:25XL. Familiar on the outside perhaps, but packing
- 14:28that custom Tensor G5 chip, faster storage, and
- 14:31beefier batteries for some serious under -the
- 14:34-hood improvements focused on performance and
- 14:36AI. And all these things, they really do connect
- 14:38back to everyday use. Better focus with ANC,
- 14:41easier charging, smoother, multitasking, smarter
- 14:43photos, potentially longer battery life. Yeah,
- 14:46it's about removing friction. Whether you're
- 14:47a professional needing reliability, a student
- 14:49needing focus, or just someone wanting their
- 14:51tech to work seamlessly. Google's betting big
- 14:54on invisible intelligence to make that happen.
- 14:57Making your digital life smoother, faster, more
- 14:59intuitive, often without you even consciously
- 15:02noticing the AI working behind the scenes. So
- 15:05here's a thought to leave you with. As this AI
- 15:07gets woven deeper and more invisibly into our
- 15:10devices, Are we heading towards tech that doesn't
- 15:13just respond but actually starts to anticipate
- 15:16our needs before we even ask something to think
- 15:19about? Definitely food for thought. We're here
- 15:22to help at Snarful, so reach out on our website
- 15:23if you have any more questions. Thanks for listening,
- 15:41and we'll catch you next time.
