- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm want to do for you. I want you to
- 0:20Speaker 1: stop tripping over small challenges and prepare to rise above
- 0:23Speaker 1: bigger obstacles than life will present to you. My next guest,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Glenn Robinson the third is an NBA basketball player. That's
- 0:31Speaker 1: what you know when you see somebody, but that's all
- 0:32Speaker 1: you think. But life is more than just being an
- 0:35Speaker 1: NBA basketball player. His A r I Foundation, which stands
- 0:38Speaker 1: for Angels are really indeed, as a nonprofit organization aimed
- 0:42Speaker 1: at empowering fathers and helping create deeper bonds between fathers
- 0:46Speaker 1: and their children. They're also they also provide resources to
- 0:50Speaker 1: help elevate fatherless children and families. Glenn was inspired to
- 0:54Speaker 1: launch his initiative after the birth of his daughter Ariana
- 0:57Speaker 1: or Arianna help him superstand it correctly, and wanted to
- 1:00Speaker 1: trying to light on the importance of the relationship between
- 1:02Speaker 1: children and their fathers. Glenn highlights fathers and their stories
- 1:06Speaker 1: on this Instagram page and wants to shine in light
- 1:09Speaker 1: on some of the amazing work they're doing. Please work
- 1:12Speaker 1: with the money making conversation, my man, Glenn Robinson, the
- 1:15Speaker 1: third are you doing today? I had to get a
- 1:19Speaker 1: lot out there live before I spoke to you, man,
- 1:22Speaker 1: A lot, a lot, because you know the thing about it.
- 1:25Speaker 1: First of all, what are you? What are you calling
- 1:28Speaker 1: it from right now? I'm calling it from Indiana, Indiana, Indiana,
- 1:34Speaker 1: So I'm based in Atlanta, Georgias, syndicated nationally UM podcasts
- 1:37Speaker 1: and all that good stuff series XM. The beauty of
- 1:40Speaker 1: bringing the individual or what I wanted to talk to
- 1:42Speaker 1: you about first of all was why the why was
- 1:45Speaker 1: their need for you to do a foundation like this.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I think that is a need, you know, in our community,
- 1:53Speaker 1: especially our Black communities, to feel that that that for
- 1:56Speaker 1: us fathers, you know, first off, and to feel that
- 1:59Speaker 1: fatherhood if the father is not around, you know, meaning
- 2:03Speaker 1: just stepping up and empowering other parents, other fathers, UM
- 2:07Speaker 1: doing what you can to help UM. You know, our
- 2:10Speaker 1: young kids grow up in today's society, I think they
- 2:13Speaker 1: need all a mentorship and all the help that they need.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And having a daughter myself and going through this process.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You know, I just know how much my daughter means
- 2:21Speaker 1: to me, and as she grows every day is important,
- 2:24Speaker 1: you know. So if I'm able to help other people
- 2:25Speaker 1: and just have that same type of impact in their
- 2:28Speaker 1: lives and spread that that that knowledge, you know, around,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I think that we can we can start to have
- 2:33Speaker 1: more successful communities and more successful children in our communities.
- 2:36Speaker 1: That's really important that you say that. Really, I I
- 2:39Speaker 1: have a daughter, Uh, She's only child, and just having
- 2:43Speaker 1: a child in general or giving life really changed my
- 2:47Speaker 1: perspective because in a way, you know, we all live
- 2:49Speaker 1: a selfish life. We just want to do what's what's
- 2:51Speaker 1: best for us, what's what we gotta do to get
- 2:53Speaker 1: what we want. And when you have a child, that
- 2:56Speaker 1: changes your value system. Talk about how to change your
- 2:58Speaker 1: value system, Glenn. Yeah, it changed a lot, you know.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think being a professional athlete, you know, I just
- 3:04Speaker 1: finished my six season. Uh, I finished with the Philadelphia
- 3:08Speaker 1: has seventy six is this year, um, and I'm now
- 3:10Speaker 1: a free agent. But looking at how I was as
- 3:13Speaker 1: a rookie and then now after six years, and you know,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I have a daughter who's to um. You know, my
- 3:18Speaker 1: time management changed, you know, my responsibilities obviously changed. You know.
- 3:22Speaker 1: UM obviously my finances and what I'm doing with my
- 3:25Speaker 1: money UM changed a lot. You know. So it matures
- 3:29Speaker 1: you and it makes you grow up, um in several
- 3:31Speaker 1: different ways, you know. And I think that if it
- 3:33Speaker 1: wasn't for my daughter, UM, you know, I just see
- 3:35Speaker 1: how far you know back that you tend to be
- 3:38Speaker 1: and you think that you know everything, but you really don't,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you know, and and and you know it's funny how
- 3:42Speaker 1: how that how that comes out. It really is amazing.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I know that. Uh. I would tell people the the
- 3:49Speaker 1: best time I had with my daughter, would not she
- 3:51Speaker 1: when you know, when she was about gets up to
- 3:53Speaker 1: about eight marks, that's when she wasn't able to push off.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Then they started pushing off then as they think they
- 3:59Speaker 1: ruled the world. But when she was just falling asleep
- 4:01Speaker 1: on my chests and you know, laying next to me
- 4:04Speaker 1: and just just barely you know, you use proper upglande
- 4:07Speaker 1: and then they leaned on one side because they didn't
- 4:09Speaker 1: have any also control. To me, man, those those memories
- 4:13Speaker 1: stick with me. Man, that all the memories stick with me.
- 4:15Speaker 1: But that memory of it, just being able to fall
- 4:18Speaker 1: asleep on my chest and and lay next to me,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and just realizing that how much power I have, and
- 4:24Speaker 1: shaping a mind, how much power I have, and delivering
- 4:28Speaker 1: a good person to this world. I'm sure when I
- 4:32Speaker 1: read your intro and I read the research on you,
- 4:35Speaker 1: it really almost messed you up a little in a
- 4:38Speaker 1: good way. The responsibility him, Yeah, yeah, yeah, it did. Uh.
- 4:45Speaker 1: You know, first off, I thought I was, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 1: obviously being a basketball player. You know, I thought my
- 4:51Speaker 1: first kid was gonna be a boy. You know, we
- 4:53Speaker 1: were gonna play basketball. You know. I thought that it
- 4:55Speaker 1: was gonna be all my way, you know, and and
- 4:57Speaker 1: and and God and life got a funny sense of
- 4:59Speaker 1: you and to you know how you least expected and
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, and and my biggest blessing in my life
- 5:06Speaker 1: has been my daughter, I think just because of the
- 5:08Speaker 1: alleys that I've been able to create, you know, surrounding her.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And that's the reason why I started the foundation is um,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, I didn't have a boy, you know, my
- 5:17Speaker 1: last name in a sense. You know, a lot of
- 5:19Speaker 1: men tend to worry about that, you know, And I
- 5:22Speaker 1: think that I just wanted to show her my genuine
- 5:24Speaker 1: love and create something that she'll see and look back
- 5:26Speaker 1: one day and she'll pick up this foundation because it's
- 5:29Speaker 1: named after her already, and she'll she'll realize, you know,
- 5:33Speaker 1: what we've created, and how many people that we've helped,
- 5:35Speaker 1: you know, and growing up and and as she grows, Um,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I do have that influence on her life. And I think,
- 5:41Speaker 1: like you said, that's the biggest thing that we can
- 5:43Speaker 1: control as parents is you know, we we do have
- 5:46Speaker 1: a lot of influence in their lives as they tend
- 5:49Speaker 1: to get older, you know, so that um, they're going
- 5:51Speaker 1: in the right path, you know, whether that's racism, whether
- 5:54Speaker 1: that's schooling and education, whether that's you know, career paths,
- 5:57Speaker 1: whatever that is. I think that they contend to kind
- 6:00Speaker 1: of put put themselves on a decent past if they
- 6:02Speaker 1: had that influence around it. You know, we're talking about
- 6:05Speaker 1: changing people's lives. We're talking about controlling destiny. And you know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: this season, you played for the Philadelphia seventy sixers and
- 6:13Speaker 1: you got to experience the bubble down in Orlando, Florida,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and basically you didn't have control of your life anymore.
- 6:19Speaker 1: At that point, I believe. Can you tell everybody I
- 6:21Speaker 1: had cg Color alone that last week and he had
- 6:24Speaker 1: me laughing just talking about how I was from your perspective,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and tell us that this walks through the steps of
- 6:31Speaker 1: how controlled the testing process of living life in the bubble.
- 6:35Speaker 1: If there was some good thing, tell us about it.
- 6:37Speaker 1: The annoying things you can tell about, tell us about it,
- 6:40Speaker 1: because you had no control of your life at that point. Glenn, Yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 1: you know, I think the hardest decision was, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: they gave us a choice, do we want to go
- 6:49Speaker 1: or not? You know, do you want to receive your
- 6:51Speaker 1: paycheck and go to this bubble? And we didn't know
- 6:54Speaker 1: anything much about the virus at that point, and we
- 6:57Speaker 1: didn't know anything what this bubble was gonna be like.
- 7:00Speaker 1: So I had to make the decision to leave my
- 7:01Speaker 1: two year old daughter, which was hard, but you know,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I didn't want to leave my teammates down. I wanted
- 7:08Speaker 1: to go do my job. I wanted to go try
- 7:10Speaker 1: to win a championship. And then, um, my main concern
- 7:12Speaker 1: concern was just staying. Say, you know, so if we
- 7:15Speaker 1: had to test every day, that's what we had to do.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Even though like you said, it wasn'tnoying, but um, we
- 7:20Speaker 1: test literally every day for the coronavirus um and they
- 7:23Speaker 1: would stick the Q tip up your nose um, and
- 7:27Speaker 1: they would swab us a mouth and and nose every
- 7:30Speaker 1: single day. Um. You know, our first two days there,
- 7:33Speaker 1: we were in quarantine. Uh, you couldn't leave your rooms.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And they would bang on your door and just drop
- 7:38Speaker 1: your food, you know, at your door, and you will
- 7:40Speaker 1: open it. Nobody would be there. You grab your door
- 7:42Speaker 1: and close it. You grab your food and close the
- 7:44Speaker 1: door and then open you up your box lunch or
- 7:47Speaker 1: boxes dinner, you know. And that was the first two days. Um,
- 7:57Speaker 1: they're sprinting down the hall you COVID nature not even
- 8:00Speaker 1: on the hallway no more if it was there. That's
- 8:03Speaker 1: that's funny man, you know. But my overall experience, I
- 8:06Speaker 1: think it was a lot better than I thought it
- 8:08Speaker 1: was gonna be. Um, you know, the food got better.
- 8:11Speaker 1: They started opening up things for us, such you know
- 8:14Speaker 1: susy gough. Um we could go. You know, they had
- 8:18Speaker 1: a pool for us, you know, allowance for us, um,
- 8:21Speaker 1: a bar for us. It was it was a lot
- 8:23Speaker 1: of different things, a barbershop. Um, so there was life
- 8:27Speaker 1: started to get a little bit better after day probably
- 8:30Speaker 1: thirty year around there, but I was I was trapped
- 8:33Speaker 1: in there for forty five days before we lost and
- 8:35Speaker 1: and and we exited out and came home. M But
- 8:38Speaker 1: that was an experience that I'm gonna tell my daughter
- 8:40Speaker 1: about my grandkids about. UM. You know, a lot a
- 8:43Speaker 1: lot of people won't be able to experience that. And
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'm just thankful that I came out of it healthy
- 8:47Speaker 1: and and and still you know, remaining the same and
- 8:50Speaker 1: so so and so far, no one's tested positive for COVID.
- 8:53Speaker 1: The teen at the NBA bubble, they haven't, you know,
- 8:59Speaker 1: And I think that that's only know that you can
- 9:01Speaker 1: do that. You're gonna have sports, you have to do
- 9:03Speaker 1: it in the forum that they did, and it was
- 9:05Speaker 1: hard to do. It was strict, and they spent a
- 9:07Speaker 1: lot of money, I think a hundred and fifty million
- 9:09Speaker 1: to keep us safe. But I think if you're gonna
- 9:11Speaker 1: do it, you have to do it like that, if
- 9:12Speaker 1: you want to keep people safe. Well, the more important
- 9:15Speaker 1: thing is that, just like me, Glenn, I'm speaking to
- 9:18Speaker 1: Glenn Robinson, the third UH. He's UH plays currently for
- 9:21Speaker 1: their Philadelphia seventy sixers. The name sounds familiar. He has
- 9:24Speaker 1: a father father University of Michigan shop shooting Dad. I
- 9:29Speaker 1: remember their run. I remember that run. Man, oh boy,
- 9:33Speaker 1: tell when they run and then it came to NBA. Man,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I just hate that shot, man, I hate it. And
- 9:39Speaker 1: it's like Steph Curry shot, you know when it goes
- 9:41Speaker 1: up and like how could he miss? Type shot? And
- 9:44Speaker 1: that was your father's gift and you followed your father
- 9:47Speaker 1: was It wasn't an option that Glenn to not play basketball?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Can you play tennants? Can you play for my wife?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Receiver been the next Julius Joe and Julian June. I
- 9:58Speaker 1: can't think of his name right there being a wide
- 10:00Speaker 1: receive it. What were your options there? Brother? He just
- 10:02Speaker 1: looked at you put a ball in your hand when
- 10:04Speaker 1: you can well basketball? That was it? What was apting.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's funny I tell people story all the time. I
- 10:11Speaker 1: was born premature. So I was born three months early
- 10:13Speaker 1: and I was two two months in the incubator and
- 10:16Speaker 1: my dad and mom put a little produce, you know,
- 10:19Speaker 1: they put a little mini basketball and my incubator when
- 10:22Speaker 1: I was young. So I like to tell everybody I've
- 10:24Speaker 1: been playing ball since I was I was in the
- 10:26Speaker 1: incubator six months. But no, you know, that was one
- 10:32Speaker 1: of the things I was always grateful for my mom
- 10:34Speaker 1: and dad, especially my dad being a number one pick
- 10:37Speaker 1: um you know, in nine before and really being a
- 10:40Speaker 1: man at that in that air. Um. He never forced
- 10:44Speaker 1: it on me. You know, I played football growing up.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I played other sports growing up, but I fell in
- 10:49Speaker 1: love with basketball and I followed his footsteps in that sense.
- 10:52Speaker 1: But you know, I think that I've always tried to
- 10:55Speaker 1: remain you know, a different person, you know, and not
- 10:58Speaker 1: just follow his foot us, but create different paths, you know,
- 11:02Speaker 1: throughout my career to kind of separate me. And you know,
- 11:05Speaker 1: he never had a foundation, um, but he did give
- 11:08Speaker 1: back to the kids of Gary, Indiana where we're from,
- 11:11Speaker 1: and what holds a free basketball camp every year. Um.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So I continue to do that, that same thing, and
- 11:17Speaker 1: on top of that, I'm doing my foundation. Angels are
- 11:20Speaker 1: real indeed who were helping empower other fathers. So I
- 11:23Speaker 1: try to take what he's done and model his example,
- 11:26Speaker 1: but also continue to make it better and elevate it
- 11:28Speaker 1: even more and reach even more people, because, um, the
- 11:31Speaker 1: more people we can reach, even if it's just a
- 11:33Speaker 1: few kids who knows how the allives with change. You
- 11:36Speaker 1: know what, I'm glad, uh, I'm enjoying this interview with you.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Your your very unique voice, and then you just happen
- 11:42Speaker 1: to be able to dribble a little basketball, okay, and
- 11:45Speaker 1: and I respect And I'm gonna tell you I'm one
- 11:46Speaker 1: of thettle You know, everybody think they can play bond,
- 11:50Speaker 1: but I can really play ball. But I was one
- 11:52Speaker 1: of them hard headed people. I thought the coach is
- 11:54Speaker 1: going to eventually come to a neighborhood park, see me
- 11:57Speaker 1: and tell me I can start. I didn't want to
- 11:59Speaker 1: go out there because that was I was that arrogant,
- 12:01Speaker 1: you know, I was as I was, as the neighbor
- 12:03Speaker 1: would say, I was all park GLn I was all park.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I was a bad boy and uh and so. But
- 12:09Speaker 1: you know, when I look at the NBA and I
- 12:11Speaker 1: look at the ability to play an NBA, man, that's
- 12:14Speaker 1: special man. You know, that's that's a unique talent. What
- 12:18Speaker 1: does it take to be uh uh NBA player? Because
- 12:25Speaker 1: I from a mindset standpoint, from a physical standpoint, I
- 12:28Speaker 1: knew what I could do. But I know I didn't
- 12:30Speaker 1: have the ability because first of all, I didn't have
- 12:32Speaker 1: the discipline to be an NBA player, because I wouldn't
- 12:34Speaker 1: even I wouldn't even auditioned or going for the basketball
- 12:38Speaker 1: practice because I thought I was better than everybody else.
- 12:40Speaker 1: So what does it take to be an NBA player? Yeah,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I think the biggest things that I've noticed, and like
- 12:46Speaker 1: we talked about, I just finished my sixth season in
- 12:48Speaker 1: the NBA, So you know, for whatever it's worth, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 1: I've been able to stick in this league after seeing
- 12:54Speaker 1: a lot of people come in and out the league.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I was drafted second I was drafted second round and
- 12:58Speaker 1: it's only a small the centers of players that when
- 13:02Speaker 1: you went pro. I was mad at you. I was
- 13:04Speaker 1: mad at you. I was like, what is he doing?
- 13:06Speaker 1: What is he? It was a good Missigan team too,
- 13:09Speaker 1: what do he doing? What he? Continue with? Just I
- 13:12Speaker 1: just want to get that out. I just want to
- 13:14Speaker 1: get that out. Years I was young, you know, I
- 13:19Speaker 1: had just turned twenties, you know, but and I had
- 13:22Speaker 1: no idea about the whole business. But um, you know,
- 13:25Speaker 1: I think after being around now for a few years, UM,
- 13:28Speaker 1: what really separates you know, NBA players and a lot
- 13:31Speaker 1: of players that I've seen, and um, discipline and all
- 13:34Speaker 1: those things that you've said, But just to break it
- 13:36Speaker 1: down to simple terms, is whatever you got going on
- 13:40Speaker 1: in your life, whether as women, whether as finance issues,
- 13:43Speaker 1: his family issues, kids, whatever that's going on in your life,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you have to find some way. When you were able
- 13:49Speaker 1: to come onto the court everything that happens in those lines,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you're able to take your discipline and your hard work
- 13:55Speaker 1: and you're able to turn it into success by focusing
- 13:58Speaker 1: and locking in. You know, when when when this distractions
- 14:02Speaker 1: out there and you're not able to focus your mind, um,
- 14:05Speaker 1: it can really mess you up. You know. And NBA
- 14:07Speaker 1: players and athletes in general, we already got a lot
- 14:10Speaker 1: going on. The money that's thrown at us people, that's
- 14:13Speaker 1: thrown at us um. And and that discipline is what
- 14:16Speaker 1: you have to have. Well, you know I've been uh,
- 14:19Speaker 1: but I participate in the high levels with say, in
- 14:22Speaker 1: the entertainment game, So I know discipline is important because
- 14:26Speaker 1: it does come to you. It always amazes me how
- 14:29Speaker 1: I'm financially able to do a lot of things, but
- 14:32Speaker 1: I get free meals, I can get discount on my clothes,
- 14:35Speaker 1: and my wife just looks at me to go, really,
- 14:37Speaker 1: really this is gonna be and uh. And because I
- 14:40Speaker 1: always make a point of now I got you. I
- 14:42Speaker 1: gotta I paid when I go because it's because I'm
- 14:44Speaker 1: an entrepreneur. So I know being an entrepreneur, you know
- 14:48Speaker 1: you have to be with respect people and and and
- 14:50Speaker 1: tell them that their brain has value. And so when
- 14:53Speaker 1: I look at you and and and this conversation the
- 14:56Speaker 1: first time we ever talked. But I as a as
- 14:58Speaker 1: a person who talks to a lot of people, Glenn, Um,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I'm a fan. Just just this conversation, and I want
- 15:05Speaker 1: to maintain a relationship with you because your your your
- 15:08Speaker 1: your success and your your your brand is beyond the court.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It's beyond the court. Man. I don't know if anybody
- 15:15Speaker 1: told you that, but just hearing how you talk, you
- 15:17Speaker 1: know you God just gave you the gift, your gift
- 15:20Speaker 1: at someplace else, brother, and you just need to find
- 15:24Speaker 1: it and hold on to it and get the right
- 15:26Speaker 1: people around you. And I'm not telling you to quick
- 15:29Speaker 1: the NBA. I'm just telling you this this foundation. You know,
- 15:33Speaker 1: uh that you started the mission this to empower fathers
- 15:36Speaker 1: with the central resources that will allow them to be
- 15:38Speaker 1: the best dads they can be. We will also provide
- 15:41Speaker 1: assistance to fatherless children and families. Tell us about that
- 15:45Speaker 1: part providing assistance to fatherless children and families. How does
- 15:48Speaker 1: that work? Glenn Robinson the third Yeah, when I first,
- 15:52Speaker 1: you know, started my foundation, Um, I was playing for
- 15:55Speaker 1: the Warriors at the beginning of this year. And uh,
- 15:58Speaker 1: there was a there was a family and my building
- 16:00Speaker 1: who had just one day they placed off a lottery. Uh.
- 16:03Speaker 1: They didn't have, you know, very much money. Uh they
- 16:06Speaker 1: they they you know, income wasn't very high and what
- 16:09Speaker 1: they were paying for rent was very low because they
- 16:11Speaker 1: wanted to through a lottery. Um. But she couldn't get
- 16:14Speaker 1: in the door. I was just moving in as well,
- 16:17Speaker 1: and myself and my brother here you're younger than me,
- 16:20Speaker 1: three hundred pounds, big dude. You know, he actually played football,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I hope. So, so we helped this lady out. Her
- 16:30Speaker 1: name was miss c c and um she broke down
- 16:33Speaker 1: to the front desk. Um, you know, thank you to
- 16:35Speaker 1: Glenn and Jelyn for for the help, and would love
- 16:37Speaker 1: to cook for them one day. Um. So we ended
- 16:40Speaker 1: up going in and to her spot and she cooked
- 16:43Speaker 1: us food fried chicken, mac and cheese. I hadn't had
- 16:47Speaker 1: a home cooking meal in a while, you know, I
- 16:49Speaker 1: wrote a lot, but that's a meal fried ticket. You
- 16:53Speaker 1: already starting at the at the at the if they
- 16:55Speaker 1: said that at the core of good home cooked meal,
- 16:58Speaker 1: right there, brother exactly. So, So we were getting ready
- 17:02Speaker 1: to eat and my brother and I we sit down
- 17:04Speaker 1: and she just had two chairs, Um, you know, to
- 17:07Speaker 1: to just patio picnic chairs. Um, and you know, we ate.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And after that, my brother lived at me and he
- 17:14Speaker 1: was like, you know, you've been talking about this foundation.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I think the first family. I think the perfect opportunity
- 17:19Speaker 1: would be to help them. Um, you gotta get them
- 17:21Speaker 1: a table at least. And I was like, you know what,
- 17:24Speaker 1: you're right, and we went A couple of weeks later.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I surprised her, told her that we're gonna help get lunch.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I was gonna take her out. Um, she does her husband,
- 17:33Speaker 1: she's actually been involved in, you know, domestic violence. She
- 17:36Speaker 1: has two children, no father involved in the house. And
- 17:39Speaker 1: she's worked two or three jobs her you know, their
- 17:42Speaker 1: whole lives. Um, and spend her last thirty dollars to
- 17:45Speaker 1: prepare that meal for my brother and not because we
- 17:47Speaker 1: watched her getting the house. Um, And I told her
- 17:51Speaker 1: we were gonna go get some lunch. Um. I furnished
- 17:53Speaker 1: her whole apartment twenty six pieces of furniture, and they
- 17:58Speaker 1: were sleeping on the ground, all three of them, and
- 18:00Speaker 1: they now got bed to sleep on that night. UM.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And she she just called me the other day and
- 18:05Speaker 1: her son just became a father and she's now a grandmother.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And I still maintain that relationship. And Um, those are
- 18:11Speaker 1: the type of families, UM, that we that we helped
- 18:13Speaker 1: when we talk about fatherless children, and and and and
- 18:17Speaker 1: her son, UM actually told me that I'm the reason
- 18:19Speaker 1: why he wanted to get a job. He went and
- 18:22Speaker 1: got h he just started as an electrician. Um, he's
- 18:24Speaker 1: on a path of success and as a father. So
- 18:27Speaker 1: those those stories and those type of things that we do,
- 18:29Speaker 1: that mean a lot more than, like you said, anything
- 18:32Speaker 1: that I can do on the basketball court. I'm able
- 18:34Speaker 1: to help that family, take them basically from off the streets.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And now that because I spent a couple of thousand
- 18:40Speaker 1: dollars you know, on them, not even a lot of money,
- 18:42Speaker 1: but to get them in a decent bed at night.
- 18:45Speaker 1: That's what it's about. You know. It's really interesting, man,
- 18:47Speaker 1: because I've been fortunate to change people's lives, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 1: with with emotional assistance, physical assistance, financial assistance, and people
- 18:57Speaker 1: just want to let you know that they're human home.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And once you can remove, uh, you know, a layer
- 19:03Speaker 1: of embarrassment, and that's sleeping on the floor of the
- 19:06Speaker 1: lawyer embarrassment. Uh old gonna close that. You got to
- 19:09Speaker 1: wear the school, the wear of the work or a
- 19:11Speaker 1: lawyer of embarrassment. It allows you to focus on who
- 19:14Speaker 1: you really are and can be. And that's what you
- 19:18Speaker 1: did for them. But you know, you allow them to
- 19:21Speaker 1: walk into that apartment not stressed, to walk out feeling
- 19:25Speaker 1: good because they felt like humans again. And and that
- 19:29Speaker 1: that's why that's why I was just when I when
- 19:31Speaker 1: I when this interview with scheduled, you know, they they
- 19:33Speaker 1: you know, we have a meeting all the time, Glenn,
- 19:34Speaker 1: who who are gonna bring? What? What did he do?
- 19:37Speaker 1: Because I'm not just gonna bring black basketball players on
- 19:40Speaker 1: my show, and they that did my research and I
- 19:42Speaker 1: went wow wow. But what what is impressing me more
- 19:46Speaker 1: is you, though? Is you what? What what's what's what's
- 19:50Speaker 1: the driving force of you? Because a foundation is what
- 19:54Speaker 1: it is. But the success of the foundation is the
- 19:57Speaker 1: is the is the leader, the founder, the person who
- 20:01Speaker 1: wakes up thinking about to go to sleep thinking about
- 20:03Speaker 1: trying to make it big or try to try to
- 20:05Speaker 1: try to save more people than Sometimes you um like Sally,
- 20:08Speaker 1: if you know, you can only put your arms around
- 20:10Speaker 1: so many people at one time. Sometimes we try to
- 20:12Speaker 1: trying to try to expand and hurt your back. So
- 20:15Speaker 1: before you hurt your back, Man, tell us about you. Man,
- 20:18Speaker 1: tell us about you. Man. Yeah, I mean I uh,
- 20:22Speaker 1: you know, everything that I got. You know, I've seen, um,
- 20:26Speaker 1: you know, my dad is what's successful. He had, you know,
- 20:30Speaker 1: money and cars and things like that. But that never
- 20:32Speaker 1: was my purpose or what drove me because I've seen
- 20:35Speaker 1: that and I was fortunate enough to see that with him.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But I grew up in the house with my mom
- 20:39Speaker 1: and my grandma. My grandma's from Mississippi, you know, my
- 20:43Speaker 1: mama and grandma. Currently they still live, uh you know,
- 20:46Speaker 1: close to Gary, Indiana. So we met West people and
- 20:48Speaker 1: at the end of the day, they care about who
- 20:50Speaker 1: are you as a person rather than whatever else that's
- 20:53Speaker 1: going on. Is at the end of the day, when
- 20:55Speaker 1: I look at myself in the mirror, what have I done?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Who am I as a person? And I feel and
- 21:00Speaker 1: as I walked through just finding my purpose. I know
- 21:03Speaker 1: that I don't know my I don't I feel like
- 21:05Speaker 1: I don't know my exact purpose or mission yet, but
- 21:08Speaker 1: it's coming and through this foundation, like you said, um,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I've realized that, you know, it's about helping the masses
- 21:15Speaker 1: of the amount of people. From what I do as
- 21:18Speaker 1: a professional athlete, you know, I'm able to take you know,
- 21:21Speaker 1: my six years experience as an athlete and able to
- 21:24Speaker 1: talk to kids, able to help fathers, you know, different
- 21:27Speaker 1: alleys of people that I can reach, um and affecting
- 21:30Speaker 1: people's lives, that's just who I am in and since
- 21:33Speaker 1: I was first in the league, you know, I would
- 21:35Speaker 1: find kids to kind of help out here and there,
- 21:37Speaker 1: or go to the hospital and visit the sick kids
- 21:39Speaker 1: and play video games with them. It's just been who
- 21:42Speaker 1: I am. And I found a way to create a
- 21:45Speaker 1: team around my foundation and we meet weekly on different
- 21:48Speaker 1: ideas that I have a different you know, suggestions that
- 21:50Speaker 1: they might have a families to help. So I put
- 21:53Speaker 1: a real structure around this because I know that I
- 21:55Speaker 1: take being a father and having my daughter and um
- 21:59Speaker 1: me just being in her life as a blessing. So
- 22:01Speaker 1: you know, I want to be able to take that
- 22:03Speaker 1: and help others to just be that role and kind
- 22:06Speaker 1: of model figure for them, because you know, they look
- 22:08Speaker 1: at professional athletes and a lot of people do at
- 22:11Speaker 1: superheroes and this and that. But like you said, at
- 22:13Speaker 1: the end of the day, we're the same as you.
- 22:15Speaker 1: We put our pants on, the same thing as everybody else.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And if they're able to understand that in some type
- 22:20Speaker 1: of way, and you're able to come to terms and
- 22:22Speaker 1: them to look at you as a as a human
- 22:24Speaker 1: being and a decent human being, because we already know
- 22:27Speaker 1: how people think about athletes, then they're able to connect
- 22:30Speaker 1: with you. And I've noticed that. Well you know, I'm
- 22:32Speaker 1: connecting with you right now. Okay, And so, uh, I
- 22:35Speaker 1: know you just got some swag down here that you're
- 22:37Speaker 1: selling on your website. You know, got you know, some
- 22:40Speaker 1: selection when you're sold out on the on the black
- 22:42Speaker 1: T shirt they're so old out. You got the hoop,
- 22:46Speaker 1: got the jersey, got that the dad had, got to
- 22:50Speaker 1: pull over hoodie. You know. So I'm telling what I got.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I got a newsletter that goes out to an ainy
- 22:55Speaker 1: thousand people and uh and it goes bi monthly. So
- 23:00Speaker 1: next week I'm gonna drop your store, your your store
- 23:05Speaker 1: into my newsletter and and then recommend people browse your
- 23:08Speaker 1: your you. And then and then I also on my website,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I have a store, and I'm if you don't mind,
- 23:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna drop your your squag gear on there for
- 23:17Speaker 1: potential purchase as well, because that's what I do with
- 23:19Speaker 1: money making conversation this because you know, this is amazing.
- 23:23Speaker 1: This is a free format. Man. You know, my my
- 23:26Speaker 1: blessing is coming aware, my blessing talking to you because
- 23:28Speaker 1: I get to beat you. Man, I'm going like this
- 23:30Speaker 1: brother here, man, if this brother like because I'm trying
- 23:33Speaker 1: to this is how this is how I think. Man,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I'm trying to figure out how I can help this
- 23:37Speaker 1: brother raise money. Because see what I don't like here, Man,
- 23:41Speaker 1: When I was managing Steve Harvey, uh never you know,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and uh you know he's to spend his money. He
- 23:46Speaker 1: he's a brag about it. I spend my money on
- 23:48Speaker 1: my foundation. I go do now you really need to
- 23:51Speaker 1: be spending somebody else's money that keep your money in
- 23:56Speaker 1: your foundation, build your brand so other people have value
- 24:00Speaker 1: you and what you were saying, and then they give
- 24:03Speaker 1: you money and you can do more. And so that's
- 24:06Speaker 1: my that's my thoughts is running through my mind with
- 24:09Speaker 1: you is like how can we get together and you know,
- 24:13Speaker 1: put together your e p K and start putting together
- 24:16Speaker 1: sissle real so we can get you some get you
- 24:19Speaker 1: some forwards and some some some Truish banks and some
- 24:22Speaker 1: Bank of Americas on your website, dude, because you know
- 24:28Speaker 1: it's it's people out that d there Michigan. Need to
- 24:30Speaker 1: be on here making some donations. You know what I'm saying.
- 24:33Speaker 1: You know all alist and I'm just telling you how
- 24:36Speaker 1: I think because you go to university. You know, I'm excited.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Hey brother, you know like I'm gonna give you after
- 24:44Speaker 1: this call if you want to give myself number anytime
- 24:46Speaker 1: you have a good or bad thought, you called me. Okay,
- 24:49Speaker 1: this is what I do for a liver. Girl. You
- 24:51Speaker 1: if you don't even know who I am, google me. Brother.
- 24:53Speaker 1: All I do is make people famous. All I do
- 24:56Speaker 1: is make corporations a lot of money. Because I think
- 24:58Speaker 1: that's my skill. That's you. When I was eighteen years old,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I realized that was my gift. I just didn't then't
- 25:03Speaker 1: understand it until I was in my authorities. I just
- 25:05Speaker 1: always used word like I'm just at the right place,
- 25:07Speaker 1: at the right time. I'm just lucky like that. And
- 25:09Speaker 1: then I realized, you know, that's what you do. You know,
- 25:12Speaker 1: that's what you that's your gift. You're able to look
- 25:14Speaker 1: at things and evaluate people and really push them to
- 25:18Speaker 1: lenings and give a clear understanding of what they can
- 25:21Speaker 1: do with their lives, because so many people don't, you know,
- 25:23Speaker 1: because you know they've been told what they're supposed to do.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Like and I was, I was told to go to college.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I got to college, which was truly a blessing for me,
- 25:32Speaker 1: but I realized that wasn't what and my degree is
- 25:35Speaker 1: in mathematics, and I went to work like I was told.
- 25:37Speaker 1: I went to work for IBM. Then I realized, this
- 25:39Speaker 1: ain't what I want to do. This ain't what I
- 25:42Speaker 1: want to do. And so so I'm listening to you.
- 25:45Speaker 1: You're successful as NBA player. I'm just telling you right now.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I don't during how many teams you've been on, because
- 25:50Speaker 1: you're in the n b A. You played in the NBA.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I know how hard it is. The D League is
- 25:54Speaker 1: full of people want to be you, you know, and
- 25:59Speaker 1: so and so so. But then what is bigger than that?
- 26:02Speaker 1: You know, look as great as Lebron is. What he
- 26:06Speaker 1: does away for the league, I respect way more, way
- 26:09Speaker 1: more because I know God gave him the ability to
- 26:13Speaker 1: dribble too, dunk the i Q, to be able to
- 26:16Speaker 1: be the best basketball player in the world. But everything else,
- 26:19Speaker 1: he's thinking about everything else you're thinking about, Glenn. That
- 26:23Speaker 1: was part of the equation when people were telling you
- 26:26Speaker 1: what you were supposed to do, telling you what you
- 26:28Speaker 1: were capable doing. This is something that you have matriculated
- 26:32Speaker 1: through life and said this is who I want to be,
- 26:34Speaker 1: this is what I want to represent this and and
- 26:36Speaker 1: it was borne out by the birth of your daughter. Man,
- 26:40Speaker 1: I'm telling him, I'm inspired talking to you, brother, And
- 26:42Speaker 1: believe me, I've done a lot for you to be
- 26:44Speaker 1: inspiring me. Appreciate that here, and I appreciate you having
- 26:51Speaker 1: me here today. Well, the thing is is that man
- 26:53Speaker 1: to be successful, Glenn, And that's what money making conversations
- 26:56Speaker 1: all about. His creating relationships people here this and and
- 26:59Speaker 1: then here our conversation and your fan brace who hopefully
- 27:02Speaker 1: great some more followers. But more importantly, it's creating relationships
- 27:06Speaker 1: and creating a brain awareness of who is exactly is
- 27:09Speaker 1: Glenn Robinson the third beyond basketball, and beyond basketball, you're
- 27:13Speaker 1: a person who cares about making other people's lives better
- 27:15Speaker 1: that are not directly tied to you. They're not your cousins,
- 27:18Speaker 1: ain't your aunt nature sustain your brother and your child,
- 27:21Speaker 1: or your girlfriend or your wife. They're just people that
- 27:24Speaker 1: you know need a helping hand. And we were at
- 27:30Speaker 1: the University of Michigan, my brother, there are a lot
- 27:33Speaker 1: of people over there with that can help you with
- 27:35Speaker 1: this because it's it's phenomenal. And you are very articulate man.
- 27:40Speaker 1: And you can talk. Brother. I don't know if anybody
- 27:42Speaker 1: told you, but you can talk. Man. You know you
- 27:44Speaker 1: just need to go and realize what I just told
- 27:47Speaker 1: you and just keep talking, Glynn, Just keep talking, brother,
- 27:52Speaker 1: I'm keep talking, brother. I'm telling you, man, I'm way
- 27:57Speaker 1: impressed with you, brother. I do so if you don't
- 28:00Speaker 1: have to drill another basketball, if you keep talking, you're
- 28:02Speaker 1: gonna be making way more money just because your ability
- 28:06Speaker 1: to talk than your ability to dribble. I'm just gonna
- 28:08Speaker 1: tell you that believe that bleed up the passion that
- 28:11Speaker 1: I hear and the ability to articulate who you could
- 28:16Speaker 1: be in life. You are impressive. Man. I I can.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I can only say that to you verbally because of
- 28:23Speaker 1: the fact that you have to believe that yourself. You
- 28:25Speaker 1: have to wow man, Man, I tell you I love
- 28:30Speaker 1: this show. I love I love I love reading what
- 28:32Speaker 1: they said A diamond and the rough. You see your
- 28:34Speaker 1: diamond and the rough. Brother. I just look. No, You'll
- 28:38Speaker 1: be walking around and you see something, just sparkle on
- 28:40Speaker 1: the ground and go, what's that? You know? I looked
- 28:43Speaker 1: down there. What's that? That's the third picked them up? Boy,
- 28:48Speaker 1: do something. We're gonna do something. Love you, man, I
- 28:53Speaker 1: love you, Man, I love your brother. Angels are real, indeed,
- 28:59Speaker 1: man helping fathers become better in fatherhood and helping families
- 29:04Speaker 1: without one founded by Glenn Robinson, the Third glam My Man,
- 29:08Speaker 1: I'm telling your brother, as God is my witness, You're
- 29:13Speaker 1: gonna make way more money talking than drippling in your
- 29:16Speaker 1: life because you care about people and you want to
- 29:20Speaker 1: make a difference in people's lives. And it all starts
- 29:23Speaker 1: with your ability to think and articulate, and you do
- 29:26Speaker 1: it very well. You just haven't accepted it yet. Accepted. Man.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Gonna go for it, brother, Gonna go for you. Walk
- 29:34Speaker 1: on that damn university music camping with a with a
- 29:36Speaker 1: ePK and the sizzle real and walk out of there
- 29:39Speaker 1: with several millions of dollars. Brother, no more spending your money,
- 29:42Speaker 1: no more, no more, no more, no more, no more.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Let's stay in touch, appreciate everything and it's a pleasure. Okay. Man, Again,
- 29:51Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't. I didn't just utter those words

- 30:03Speaker 1: tell you, man to hear somebody like you talk and
- 30:06Speaker 1: you're young because I didn't. I didn't figure out, because
- 30:09Speaker 1: I didn't figure out my my success path until I
- 30:11Speaker 1: was in my forties. And believe me, I had a
- 30:14Speaker 1: lot of Mercedes bends and a lot of big houses
- 30:16Speaker 1: along the way, a lot of good times and a
- 30:18Speaker 1: lot of times I wish I wouldn't have participated in.
- 30:21Speaker 1: But they were all good memories right now, because when
- 30:23Speaker 1: you get old, all you can live off your memories. Okay,
- 30:26Speaker 1: but uh but again, my brother, thank you for coming
