- 0:29Speaker 1: we come. It's money, money making conversations. That's what I do.

- 0:35Speaker 1: lot to think, a lot of things to say. Welcome
- 0:37Speaker 1: to another episode of podcast, radio show, or talk show,
- 0:42Speaker 1: or whatever you want to call it. I'm here to
- 0:46Speaker 1: deliver information. This is money making Conversation. I'm your host,
- 0:49Speaker 1: Rashwan McDonald. Right. Next guest is an award winning civil
- 0:52Speaker 1: rights attorney, autism advocate, bestselling author, TV host, and illegal
- 0:57Speaker 1: analyst for CNN. Please welcome back to Money Making Conversations
- 1:01Speaker 1: or Riva Martin. Hello, Rashean, how are you my friend? Good? Good?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Areva so you know the West coast? Correct, Yes, I
- 1:12Speaker 1: say Angeles time because you know I'm on the East coast.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And I, okay, what time I call a reva or
- 1:17Speaker 1: email her? She responds, So what time do you get
- 1:20Speaker 1: up on the West coast, Reriva? Well, I have a
- 1:24Speaker 1: pretty strict exercise regime that I follow, so in order
- 1:29Speaker 1: to do everything I need to do in the morning
- 1:31Speaker 1: before I hit the gym, I get up around five
- 1:34Speaker 1: am Pacific Standard time. Okay, get up at five am
- 1:39Speaker 1: because you'll respond back to you. That's what I love
- 1:41Speaker 1: about it, you know. So obviously the phone is always
- 1:43Speaker 1: near you because you are always making yourself available to
- 1:47Speaker 1: breaking news or breaking political news for CNN. Correct. Yes,
- 1:52Speaker 1: And because my job is breaking news. You know, the
- 1:55Speaker 1: news breaks in this world we live in today two seven.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm always checking my news sites to see what's going on,
- 2:04Speaker 1: what's hot, what's you know, what's trending, because I never
- 2:08Speaker 1: know when I'm going to have to show up and
- 2:11Speaker 1: start talking about what's happening, or get a call or
- 2:13Speaker 1: email saying did you see this story? Or what are
- 2:16Speaker 1: your thoughts? What are your you know, your your opinions.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And I'm a news junky. I love it, so I
- 2:22Speaker 1: don't feel like I'm working. I feel like I'm enriching
- 2:25Speaker 1: myself and it's what I love. I love news, so
- 2:29Speaker 1: I can't consume enough of it. Now you've seeing it
- 2:32Speaker 1: being an analysts on seeing it, you know, everybody wants jobs,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and how did that opportunity come to you? And how
- 2:38Speaker 1: do you, Like I said, you always told me you
- 2:40Speaker 1: Enjorgia News. You stay on top of it naturally. Anyway,
- 2:43Speaker 1: how did the opportunity to come to you? Well, that's
- 2:47Speaker 1: a good question. I get asked that question a lot,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and you're writing lots of people. He's a lawyer friend
- 2:51Speaker 1: of mine and sends every time he sees me, says
- 2:54Speaker 1: the reve I want your job. Uh. But I'm very fortunate.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I started guests appearing. You know, I made myself available
- 3:06Speaker 1: to some local news channels here in Los Angeles to
- 3:09Speaker 1: talk about a bunch of local topics and things that
- 3:12Speaker 1: were in the news in the Los Angeles community. And
- 3:15Speaker 1: starting out doing those local news segments led me to
- 3:19Speaker 1: getting some opportunities to talk on national TV. And it
- 3:23Speaker 1: wasn't just being n it was MSNBC, it was Stocked,
- 3:26Speaker 1: it was uh ABC News and other national news outlets
- 3:31Speaker 1: is where I actually started and before I actually became
- 3:34Speaker 1: a paid contributor and a contracted with CNN, I would
- 3:40Speaker 1: frequently appear, sometimes in one day on four or five
- 3:43Speaker 1: different networks, UH, including UH, the BBC and Good Morning
- 3:51Speaker 1: Britain and some shows that only you know can be
- 3:54Speaker 1: UH shows that are aired outside the country. No, as
- 3:59Speaker 1: you is, So, what you do, I think is is opinionated.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It has to be fact driven. Do you feel pressure
- 4:08Speaker 1: do you feel to get it right or because of
- 4:11Speaker 1: the fact that it is an opinion but it is
- 4:14Speaker 1: fact based. How do how do you deal with that? Yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 1: that's a good question too, Rashan, And yes, I do
- 4:21Speaker 1: feel pressure to be accurate because people follow me, people
- 4:24Speaker 1: watch me, people UH quote me, they recite what they
- 4:28Speaker 1: hear me say. And I take that very seriously. And
- 4:31Speaker 1: when I give my opinion or I you know, way
- 4:35Speaker 1: in on issues and I'm talking, you know, some of
- 4:37Speaker 1: the biggest issues in this country, from abortion rights to
- 4:41Speaker 1: sexual harassment to you know, the political debates that we
- 4:44Speaker 1: just had with the Democratic candidates. UH, police brutality, police shootings,
- 4:50Speaker 1: I mean, all of the big issues that that are
- 4:53Speaker 1: in the news every day. I typically am weighing in
- 4:56Speaker 1: on and I want the information I provide to be accurate,
- 5:00Speaker 1: don't want it to be quote unquote fake news. I
- 5:02Speaker 1: don't want to give the wrong statistics. I don't want
- 5:05Speaker 1: to mislead people about the facts. So I often tell
- 5:09Speaker 1: people for a three minute segment that I'm doing, I
- 5:13Speaker 1: may spend three to five hours researching and reading, and
- 5:18Speaker 1: not just one outlet or one opinion or one source,
- 5:22Speaker 1: but reading and listening to videos and getting as much
- 5:25Speaker 1: factual background as I can because unfortunately, so much there's
- 5:30Speaker 1: a lot of noise in the news. Uh there's so
- 5:34Speaker 1: many different sites, there's so many different sources, and unfortunately,
- 5:39Speaker 1: now you may have a story and that's released and
- 5:43Speaker 1: it will be picked up by a hundred different outlets,
- 5:46Speaker 1: and that story may contain a bunch of inaccuracies, and
- 5:50Speaker 1: everybody just picks up on it and starts reciting it
- 5:53Speaker 1: as if it is accurate. But when you do your
- 5:56Speaker 1: research and big deeper, you'll learn that maybe some of
- 5:58Speaker 1: the facts, the facts and from Nation Sided are actually inaccurate.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So I think I have a responsibility that someone who
- 6:05Speaker 1: has a large platform to make sure that I'm using
- 6:09Speaker 1: that platform in a responsible way. Well, you've always been
- 6:12Speaker 1: responsible when I've spoken to you. Your background at the St.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Louis uh Inner City. You grew up in the inner
- 6:18Speaker 1: city and you went east and that go with a
- 6:21Speaker 1: Harvard grad and now you west. You have a law
- 6:24Speaker 1: firm with your husband based in Los Angeles, Martin and Martin.
- 6:28Speaker 1: How is that work? You know, working in the environment
- 6:30Speaker 1: of trying to maintain a balance, like we're gonna get
- 6:32Speaker 1: your kids, because that's a major part of your balanced life, because,
- 6:36Speaker 1: like you said, you up in five years a ragiar resume.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I didn't know this. You you you run five k races. Yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I became an avid runner. I was doing half a
- 6:46Speaker 1: marathons a couple of years ago. Uh, and I kind
- 6:50Speaker 1: of half marathon, rishawn, not even close to half maybe trotten.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I'm trotting friend as a marathon or and she got
- 7:02Speaker 1: me excited and geeked about running, So I was that
- 7:06Speaker 1: was pretty hard pour for a while. I've kind of
- 7:08Speaker 1: switched up and I'm working out more in the gym now,
- 7:10Speaker 1: but I still I'm gonna do a five k on
- 7:13Speaker 1: the fourth of July here to celebrate the holiday. But
- 7:16Speaker 1: you know, you mentioned balance life and It is so important,
- 7:19Speaker 1: whether you're a woman or a man, that you have
- 7:22Speaker 1: not only what you do professionally to earn a living,
- 7:25Speaker 1: but what you do socially, what you do for the community,
- 7:28Speaker 1: what you do to just even you know, gratify yourself
- 7:31Speaker 1: and and uh, you know, enrich your own soul. So
- 7:35Speaker 1: I'm all about self care, self love. Uh. I'm also
- 7:40Speaker 1: about you know, finding those opportunities to do those things
- 7:44Speaker 1: that that really helped, you know, keep you going, those
- 7:47Speaker 1: things that motivate you, that inspire you, that give you
- 7:51Speaker 1: a sense of renewal. And it's sometimes can't get lost.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And I hear a lot of women. I threw a
- 7:56Speaker 1: lot of speaking around the country, particularly to women business
- 8:00Speaker 1: owners and professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs. And that's always the
- 8:06Speaker 1: biggest question, you know, can I have it all? Can
- 8:08Speaker 1: I have a family? Can I have a husband or
- 8:10Speaker 1: a partner or a a spouse and children, and you know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: be successful in whatever my career choices are. We we
- 8:19Speaker 1: mentioned earlier about you being a autism advocacy advocate, and
- 8:23Speaker 1: then your youngest son has autism and you started a
- 8:26Speaker 1: special needs networking On July twenty seven, Holly Robinson Pete
- 8:30Speaker 1: and your husband will be honoring you and UH tremendous
- 8:33Speaker 1: program that I will be in attendance. I will be
- 8:35Speaker 1: there also long being honored that same night to be
- 8:38Speaker 1: an Eva Longoria. When you're being honored because the recognition
- 8:42Speaker 1: have come to you on a regular basis, because you're
- 8:44Speaker 1: passionate about it, because this is a personal concern with yours.
- 8:48Speaker 1: To be honored on that event on July twenty seven,
- 8:50Speaker 1: What does that mean for your brand? What it means
- 8:52Speaker 1: to the attention you're trying to bring to the cause
- 8:55Speaker 1: of autism. Because also Holly Robinson Pete and Rod Pete
- 8:58Speaker 1: have a have a son who it's autism as well. Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I'm excited about it. You have brought me and Holly
- 9:05Speaker 1: and I have collaborated in the past, so they have
- 9:08Speaker 1: a foundation uh that works. They do a lot of
- 9:12Speaker 1: work with adults, with artists, and they've opened up a
- 9:15Speaker 1: couple of centers that provide job training. Uh. The work
- 9:19Speaker 1: in my organization does. It's different and that we've really
- 9:22Speaker 1: focused on underserved poor communities, early intervention, early detection, and
- 9:28Speaker 1: providing autism behavioral therapies for kids as well as advocacy
- 9:34Speaker 1: training for their parents and We've also focused a lot
- 9:37Speaker 1: on legislation within really the drivers of some key laws
- 9:42Speaker 1: that have been passed in the state of California, and
- 9:44Speaker 1: only consultants at the national level on several federal pieces
- 9:48Speaker 1: of legislation. So it's great when you have organizations, you know,
- 9:54Speaker 1: whether it's Save the Wells or Saved the Children, that
- 9:57Speaker 1: have common goals, common purpose for those organizations to figure
- 10:01Speaker 1: out ways to work together. When I first started my organization,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know, people would always ask me about Holly, and
- 10:08Speaker 1: you know, Holly tells me people always ask her about me.
- 10:11Speaker 1: But what I'm excited about it is an opportunity to
- 10:16Speaker 1: show her audience, which she has this really at this
- 10:19Speaker 1: event she gives every summer. She's at this twenty one
- 10:22Speaker 1: or twenty third year, but it's it's been going strong.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And autism and Purposes disease which her dad had partisans
- 10:29Speaker 1: but now her brother has partisans. But just as the
- 10:32Speaker 1: opportunity for me to show the autism and the broader
- 10:36Speaker 1: social justice vistability community that you know here to nonprofits
- 10:41Speaker 1: run by African American families who have been touched by
- 10:44Speaker 1: this disorder, and you know, we're working together for a
- 10:48Speaker 1: common goal. Which is helping thousands, not billions, of other
- 10:52Speaker 1: families and children are So I'm excited about it, Excited
- 10:57Speaker 1: to see you, Excited to see uh, you know a
- 11:01Speaker 1: great group of people that Holly and Rotten bring together
- 11:03Speaker 1: every years the Star studed events. Yes, it is July
- 11:07Speaker 1: twenty seven, Malibu, California. Yeah, beautiful state, amount overlooking the
- 11:12Speaker 1: ocean or ever your focus going in and out? Are
- 11:17Speaker 1: you walking around or your phone? Okay? Cool? Was it
- 11:23Speaker 1: going in and out? Sometimes you're clear, sometimes you're not clear.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And I do want to make sure that you know
- 11:29Speaker 1: it's a big party, but with a really incredible purpose. Well,
- 11:34Speaker 1: the thing about it is that you know, we've got
- 11:36Speaker 1: two minutes less than two minutes left, and I know
- 11:38Speaker 1: you're branching out into doing your own productions, Uh, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: executive producing your own shows and pitching your own ideas.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Why is that a desire? You're you know, you're a
- 11:48Speaker 1: successful lawyer, you're an advocate, and you have a voice
- 11:51Speaker 1: in social media. You've been recognized as a legal analysts
- 11:56Speaker 1: of seeing it. Why is it important for you to
- 11:58Speaker 1: produce your own projects? You know, I feel Roshan, I've
- 12:02Speaker 1: always had lots of stories decided me, and I told
- 12:07Speaker 1: those stories of different platforms via social media, contributed tons
- 12:12Speaker 1: of articles to online and print publications like Time, uh,
- 12:18Speaker 1: Motto dot com and CNN dot com. And I've just
- 12:21Speaker 1: I've been a writer pretty much throughout my career, and
- 12:25Speaker 1: TV is another medium through which I get to tell stories.
- 12:29Speaker 1: So I am excited about this new chapter. I get
- 12:32Speaker 1: to add producer title uh to my you know, long
- 12:37Speaker 1: list of things that I've been able to accomplish in
- 12:39Speaker 1: my life and and it this is another way that
- 12:42Speaker 1: I get to tell what I think are important stories.
- 12:45Speaker 1: What I think are stories that will not only informing
- 12:48Speaker 1: it and educate, but stories that will also inspire and
- 12:51Speaker 1: motivate it and and cause people to take action in
- 12:54Speaker 1: their own communities and in other and in their own lives.
- 12:58Speaker 1: As an advocate, that's what my whole journey is about,
- 13:02Speaker 1: is being the voice for the voice list, but also
- 13:05Speaker 1: helping other people find their voice. Well, thank you for
- 13:08Speaker 1: calling my show. You are amazing. You know I'm a
- 13:11Speaker 1: big fan of yours and I will be seeing you.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I will be seeing you before you live to win
- 13:15Speaker 1: or seven, but definitely be there too. UH. Wish you
- 13:18Speaker 1: will keep winning. Okay, I was looking for a better
- 13:30Speaker 1: way to check in on our house while I was
- 13:32Speaker 1: at work and a friend recommended Blink. I was skeptical
- 13:35Speaker 1: but decided to give it a shot, and I bought
- 13:37Speaker 1: a Blink camera system. With our last security system, false alarms,
- 13:41Speaker 1: wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we couldn't get out of
- 13:44Speaker 1: my bad But our Blink system is different. Their motion
- 13:47Speaker 1: activated cameras that work inside and outside, their wire, free,
- 13:50Speaker 1: easy to set up, and they run on two lithium
- 13:52Speaker 1: batteries that last up to two years. Total peace of
- 13:55Speaker 1: mind and Blink camera system started under eighty bucks with
- 13:58Speaker 1: no subscriptions. We were on big cation and I gotten
- 14:00Speaker 1: to learn of my smartphone that motion was detected at
- 14:03Speaker 1: our front door. I checked my Blink app and I
- 14:05Speaker 1: saw it was just my cool new device being delivered. Hey,
- 14:08Speaker 1: we agreed no new devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding.
- 14:12Speaker 1: With Blink camera systems starting under eighty bucks, home security
- 14:16Speaker 1: just got easier. Go to Blink Protected dot com, slash Secure,
- 14:20Speaker 1: blink Protect dot Com, slash Secure, blink Protect dot Com
- 14:25Speaker 1: slash Secure. Blink is an Amazon company and it works
- 14:29Speaker 1: with Alexa. My Next is a proud member of Delta
- 14:32Speaker 1: Sigma Theta proud member Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She's the
- 14:39Speaker 1: host financial Guru, a bestselling author of financial self help books,
- 14:43Speaker 1: and an ordained minister. So you know I can't be
- 14:45Speaker 1: too you know, to you know me, I'll be edgy sometimes,
- 14:48Speaker 1: you know, all right, because stay right in that lane
- 14:52Speaker 1: with her. Her new book, The Symphony, A Guide to
- 14:56Speaker 1: Creating and Balancing Multiple Streams of Income is published and
- 15:00Speaker 1: I have been reading it all weekend right here. I
- 15:03Speaker 1: cared on the plane with the Houston this weekend, had
- 15:05Speaker 1: in my bag, so it's reading on the plane. A
- 15:07Speaker 1: lot of pages are folded. Today on my show, be
- 15:09Speaker 1: sharing her secrets on how to monetize all of your
- 15:12Speaker 1: gifts to create a beautiful symphony of income streams. Please
- 15:17Speaker 1: welcome to Money Making Conversation for the very first time,
- 15:20Speaker 1: Dr Lynn Richardson, Well, good morning is thank you so much.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Mr McDonald, thank you. I'm honored to be here with
- 15:27Speaker 1: you where I'm honored to have you because we met
- 15:29Speaker 1: many time. We talked of the projects that you've been
- 15:32Speaker 1: involved in. She's been to the Hoodie Awards with my
- 15:34Speaker 1: favorite person, mc light and that's how I got my girls.
- 15:40Speaker 1: You know how I feel about mc light now and
- 15:42Speaker 1: so yes, but it's all about you. It's all about
- 15:49Speaker 1: you on this show right now. Dr Lynn Richardson, um UM,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I want you to talk about because I always talk
- 15:55Speaker 1: about multiple streams of income, and that's in your title
- 15:58Speaker 1: of your book. What exact actually is multiple streams of
- 16:01Speaker 1: income just to the layman person, it's having more than
- 16:07Speaker 1: one way of making money. UH. And you know I
- 16:11Speaker 1: wrote this book, Mr McDonald because not many people have
- 16:14Speaker 1: mastered what you have mastered over your career, and that
- 16:18Speaker 1: is applying strategy to UH finances. And I was in
- 16:24Speaker 1: my twenties and I had a whole bunch of jobs.
- 16:26Speaker 1: It was like, my name is Lenny, and I got
- 16:28Speaker 1: plenty from good time. I could tell you some lighters
- 16:31Speaker 1: of insurance. You could come to my house on a Saturday.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I could be your hair, your nails, nail heelps you
- 16:36Speaker 1: write in insurance policy, get a job, quit a job,
- 16:39Speaker 1: whatever it was. But I was like being on a treadmill.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I was running fast and going nowhere. I was unfulfilled,
- 16:45Speaker 1: and I certainly was not monetizing any of those income
- 16:49Speaker 1: streams um the way I thought I would, UH, and
- 16:52Speaker 1: the whole idea that many of us are serial entrepreneurs
- 16:56Speaker 1: created people who come up with ideas and think it's
- 16:59Speaker 1: the next best thing to do, and you jump on
- 17:01Speaker 1: board and you get in there and you find out
- 17:04Speaker 1: it's not what you thought it was, or it's more
- 17:05Speaker 1: work than you think it is. And so I wrote
- 17:08Speaker 1: this book for people like me who needed to find
- 17:11Speaker 1: their way, uh, to find purpose, to find strategy, but
- 17:15Speaker 1: more importantly, to figure out that you can do it all,
- 17:18Speaker 1: but you just not you can't do it all at
- 17:20Speaker 1: the same time. This back up the step here because
- 17:22Speaker 1: you was talking about you know, when you were doing insurance,
- 17:25Speaker 1: you was doing hair, you're doing you're doing all these
- 17:28Speaker 1: skill sets and give out all the advice, but there
- 17:30Speaker 1: was no check tied to them. Give it out the advice.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Why well, there was no check tied to them because
- 17:38Speaker 1: I didn't have a strategy, right, you know. I talked
- 17:42Speaker 1: about the personality of an entrepreneur and and that one
- 17:45Speaker 1: of them is the dreamer. The dreamer things everything is
- 17:48Speaker 1: gonna be great. The dreamer think that this idea is
- 17:51Speaker 1: a great idea, and it probably is. But if you
- 17:53Speaker 1: don't have a thinker, see see that's what you have said,
- 17:56Speaker 1: Mr McDonald, a thinker. The sinker is the strategist, the
- 17:59Speaker 1: thing kerls gonna ask all the questions that the dreamer
- 18:02Speaker 1: doesn't want to hear. The thinker's gonna say, now, how
- 18:05Speaker 1: are we gonna do this, what is the plan, how
- 18:07Speaker 1: are we going to roll this out? Who are we
- 18:08Speaker 1: in business with? How much does it call? How much
- 18:11Speaker 1: work does that actually take? Uh? And so on. And
- 18:14Speaker 1: then the other part of it is the storyteller. Who's
- 18:16Speaker 1: gonna tell the story. You've said that to me many times,
- 18:20Speaker 1: who's gonna market it, who's gonna put it out there,
- 18:22Speaker 1: who's gonna get it into the universe? And then of
- 18:25Speaker 1: course that that that last thing, who is the hunter.
- 18:29Speaker 1: The hunter is always seeking new opportunities. So you can
- 18:33Speaker 1: be a dreamer with a great idea, but if you
- 18:36Speaker 1: don't have a strategy in place to build relationships, to
- 18:39Speaker 1: get leads, to get new business opportunities, to get new
- 18:43Speaker 1: contract signed, then your dream will become a nightmare. And
- 18:47Speaker 1: so I think that's the reason why people don't fulfill
- 18:50Speaker 1: what it is that they see because they don't think
- 18:52Speaker 1: of all of those different steps. We really is really great. Uh,
- 18:56Speaker 1: we're talking to Dr Lynn Richardson will discovers her new
- 19:00Speaker 1: book The Symphony, A Guide to Creating and balancing multiple
- 19:03Speaker 1: streams of income. The reason I was excited about having
- 19:06Speaker 1: you on the show because to give where I'm at,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you know, experience, but just confidence, uh, the ability to say, hey,
- 19:17Speaker 1: that costs if you want me to talk about that,
- 19:19Speaker 1: if you want me to walk over there and talk
- 19:21Speaker 1: to you about that, and that comes with a fee,
- 19:23Speaker 1: because it's really tired to fear, because the people need
- 19:26Speaker 1: to understand that a lot of times we like the attention,
- 19:30Speaker 1: We like people coming to us asking us for advice.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But guess what if you put a price tag on it,
- 19:36Speaker 1: they might stop coming. Well, well, guess what. You want
- 19:40Speaker 1: them to stop coming because you want to stop being free.
- 19:43Speaker 1: You want them to stop coming to me and say, oh,
- 19:46Speaker 1: rou sean here. Tell you guess what somebody around the
- 19:49Speaker 1: corner with lesser value, that's your experience. It's actually charging
- 19:53Speaker 1: for your services. While you over there, Mr Popular, I'm
- 19:57Speaker 1: spread walkoming and all this all this busy work and
- 20:01Speaker 1: not getting paid for And that's why I wanted to say.
- 20:03Speaker 1: What she was talking about, all those different jobs, all
- 20:05Speaker 1: those different opportunities, is a lot of us just tied
- 20:08Speaker 1: to she was popular, she was super popular, but the
- 20:10Speaker 1: income went tied to because sometimes deep inside you don't
- 20:14Speaker 1: know how to turn that corner, to turn that corner
- 20:17Speaker 1: to say, hey, I like being popular, but guess what
- 20:21Speaker 1: this is what's gonna cost? And then you would agree
- 20:24Speaker 1: to this as well, Doctor Lemrick, So this is that
- 20:27Speaker 1: what is that value? How do how does the person
- 20:30Speaker 1: get that value point of what their services are? Can
- 20:32Speaker 1: you expand on that? Yes, you know, it's interesting that
- 20:36Speaker 1: you say that, and I have to, you know, kind
- 20:38Speaker 1: of say amen to what you just said, because in
- 20:41Speaker 1: all too many cases, people think that they can call
- 20:44Speaker 1: and ask for advice and that if there's no price
- 20:47Speaker 1: tag attached to it. And I tell people this, it's
- 20:50Speaker 1: like if you call the attorney and you want the
- 20:52Speaker 1: attorney to give you some advice, don't you know that
- 20:54Speaker 1: that's what the attorney is selling advice. If you go
- 20:56Speaker 1: to the grocery store, you're gonna get a local bread.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You cannot walk out of the store with the local
- 21:01Speaker 1: bread and not pay, So you're not gonna get a
- 21:03Speaker 1: local bread at the attorney's office. You're not gonna get
- 21:05Speaker 1: a local bread at Rushan MacDonald's office. You're not gonna
- 21:08Speaker 1: get a local bread at my office. You're actually gonna
- 21:10Speaker 1: get a strategy. You're gonna get advice. You're gonna get
- 21:13Speaker 1: an idea, you're gonna get a new thought process. And
- 21:15Speaker 1: there's a cost attached to that. And this is so
- 21:18Speaker 1: funny because you know I always talk I talk about
- 21:20Speaker 1: how you're in your kids to work in your home
- 21:22Speaker 1: based business. And my oldest daughter, she was in her teens,
- 21:25Speaker 1: and she was rebelling, and I was telling her the
- 21:28Speaker 1: same thing over and over again. Then one day I decided, no,
- 21:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna start charging you. I made four hundred and
- 21:33Speaker 1: fifty dollars an hour to give people advice. So when
- 21:36Speaker 1: you do something that I have already told you not
- 21:38Speaker 1: to do, and now I have to tell you how
- 21:40Speaker 1: to undo what you did, you're gonna have to pay
- 21:42Speaker 1: me for my advice. Because this is no longer parenting,
- 21:45Speaker 1: this is now counseling, and you're gonna have to pay
- 21:47Speaker 1: a fee. And the first time I charged her a fee,
- 21:51Speaker 1: a counseling fee to talk to me, if it changed
- 21:55Speaker 1: everything around. So I would start by saying, if you
- 21:58Speaker 1: if you're trying to idea to buy your value, find
- 22:01Speaker 1: someone who's great at what they do in your area,
- 22:06Speaker 1: discover what their fees are, and then you adjust accordingly.
- 22:10Speaker 1: So if you know that you are into business strategy,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and you know that Rashan McDonald does X, Y and Z,
- 22:16Speaker 1: where you are a beginner, you can't charge what was
- 22:18Speaker 1: Sean McDonald charges, but you can scale it up or
- 22:22Speaker 1: down depending on your level of expertise. You can ask
- 22:25Speaker 1: me any question about money in any area, and I've
- 22:29Speaker 1: worked it. I've been a financial aid counselor, I've been
- 22:32Speaker 1: in investments, I've been an insurance and mortgages, so it
- 22:35Speaker 1: was a very natural experience. However, if people are ready
- 22:39Speaker 1: to get your service and you are not ready to
- 22:41Speaker 1: service them, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Everybody who went on national television wasn't successful. I know
- 22:49Speaker 1: one person right now who went on Missus Harvard show,
- 22:52Speaker 1: talked about a service and got inundated with thirty six
- 22:55Speaker 1: thousand phone calls in one day. Didn't have a toll
- 22:58Speaker 1: free number to capture all the calls, didn't have a
- 23:01Speaker 1: system in place to make sure that if the person call,
- 23:04Speaker 1: you would get an email for the message and the
- 23:06Speaker 1: text for the message and the message on your phone,
- 23:09Speaker 1: so you could figure out how to distribute the process
- 23:11Speaker 1: of answering those calls. So it was a massive it
- 23:15Speaker 1: was a massive influx of people inquiring how to get
- 23:20Speaker 1: their finances straight, buying books, wanting help, and Rashan every
- 23:25Speaker 1: single day. I'm I'm up at six am on days
- 23:27Speaker 1: when I'm not traveling, and I'm talking to regular everyday
- 23:31Speaker 1: people about regular everyday money problems because what happens. They
- 23:35Speaker 1: see me doing it for some family on television, but
- 23:38Speaker 1: they want to know how they can have that for themselves.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So I I set up a fast f a s T.
- 23:44Speaker 1: It's a financial assessment Strategy session and it's ten minutes.
- 23:48Speaker 1: And if you send me your budget, I send you
- 23:50Speaker 1: all the steps what you need to do. How give
- 23:53Speaker 1: anybody ten minutes. I'll give anybody ten minutes of my
- 23:56Speaker 1: time to help change their life. And and so that's
- 23:59Speaker 1: what it's been. But the work is just beginning. That's
- 24:02Speaker 1: what it really showed me, Mr McDonald, that it's not
- 24:05Speaker 1: over and I have not arrived. The work is just
- 24:08Speaker 1: the beginning. Because there's so many millions of people who
- 24:12Speaker 1: are living check to check or worse, check to Monday,
- 24:15Speaker 1: which is my other book. I'm gonna send you that
- 24:16Speaker 1: one too. Who need a plan to get out of
- 24:21Speaker 1: financial bondage? Well, this is amazing interview. I mad because
- 24:25Speaker 1: I don't know why I've not had you on this
- 24:27Speaker 1: show before. You're brilliant, You are you are, You're entertaining you.
- 24:32Speaker 1: You have a common sense about you that uh the
- 24:35Speaker 1: world needs to hear on the regular basis. Definitely will
- 24:38Speaker 1: be posting your book. Go to Amazon uh dot com
- 24:42Speaker 1: and Dr Lynn Richardson. You can do a name search
- 24:45Speaker 1: on that as Lynn as l y n N Richardson,
- 24:48Speaker 1: Doctor UH The Symphony A Guide to Creating and Balancing
- 24:52Speaker 1: Multiple streams of Income. Um, wow, we when we when
- 24:56Speaker 1: you're in closing, we have a minute left? What what? What?
- 24:59Speaker 1: One point of advised that people make a mistake all
- 25:01Speaker 1: that you wish they would stop. I wish people would
- 25:05Speaker 1: stop trying to rush the process. And to your point,
- 25:09Speaker 1: Mr McDonald, you haven't had me on before because I
- 25:12Speaker 1: didn't come out before. I was very comfortable being behind
- 25:16Speaker 1: the scenes. I was as as a matter of fact,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I was too comfortable being behind me. Russell wanted me
- 25:22Speaker 1: to come out and see light, wanted me to come up.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I didn't start speaking and teaching on this level until
- 25:29Speaker 1: I until it was time. I didn't want to be
- 25:33Speaker 1: trying to help another person and then helping myself by
- 25:37Speaker 1: helping them, I am helping myself. It's ocarried, So that's
- 25:41Speaker 1: a part of the symphony as well. Stay in your lane,
- 25:44Speaker 1: Stay in your lane, Master your lane. And what I
- 25:47Speaker 1: showed that I could do is I can help catapult
- 25:51Speaker 1: a platform to another level. And once I did that
- 25:55Speaker 1: for empty Light and Russell Simmons and Lohama and she
- 25:58Speaker 1: would even her foundation and whatever I gotta let you go,
- 26:02Speaker 1: it is amazing. Oh she's back. I was looking for
- 26:05Speaker 1: a better way to check in on our house while
- 26:07Speaker 1: I was at work and a friend recommended Blink. I
- 26:10Speaker 1: was skeptical, but decided to give it a shot, and
- 26:12Speaker 1: I bought a Blink camera system. With our last security system,
- 26:15Speaker 1: false alarms, wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we couldn't get
- 26:19Speaker 1: out of my bad. But our Blink system is different.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Their motion activated cameras that work inside and outside their
- 26:24Speaker 1: wire free, easy to set up, and they run on
- 26:26Speaker 1: two lithium batteries that last up to two years. Total
- 26:29Speaker 1: peace of mind and Blink camera system started under eighty
- 26:32Speaker 1: bucks with no subscriptions. We were on vacation and I
- 26:35Speaker 1: gotten to learn of my smartphone that motion was detected
- 26:38Speaker 1: at our front door. I checked my Blink app and
- 26:40Speaker 1: I saw it was just my cool new device being delivered. Hey,
- 26:43Speaker 1: we agreed no new devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding.
- 26:47Speaker 1: With Blink camera systems starting under eighty bucks, home security
- 26:51Speaker 1: just got easier. Go to Blink Protected dot com s,

- 28:28Speaker 1: Mercedes Bins in Dallas. Texts drove it that seven. The
- 28:32Speaker 1: Dallas Nabors has performed on the Smash NBC series. The Voice,
- 28:36Speaker 1: has recorded six acclaimed studio albums and a Christmas collection
- 28:41Speaker 1: released on the Acclaim in an acclaimed book, starting two films,

- 28:48Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversations. My man from Dallas, Texas,
- 28:53Speaker 1: Anthony Evans. Hey, I'm just hyped, man. I'm just hyped
- 28:59Speaker 1: because I you know, we've been trying to connect and
- 29:01Speaker 1: we finally connected on this interview today because I wanted
- 29:04Speaker 1: to bring your money making conversation, because you know, I'm
- 29:07Speaker 1: a type of person. Every every Tuesday I meet with
- 29:10Speaker 1: my my, my producers, and they pitch out people. They
- 29:14Speaker 1: recommend people would be great for the show, who have
- 29:16Speaker 1: great stories. And I just when they told me your story,
- 29:20Speaker 1: you know, I just felt I wanted to hear it
- 29:22Speaker 1: from you and talk about what drives you. That's the
- 29:26Speaker 1: one first question I want to ask you, Anthony, what
- 29:28Speaker 1: drives you to be successful? You know what there are
- 29:31Speaker 1: there are a few things that drive me. The first
- 29:32Speaker 1: thing I think about is being able to excellence. Drives me.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Actually being able to find them a way to another way,
- 29:40Speaker 1: avenues to be excellent. That that drives me at what
- 29:43Speaker 1: I do when it comes to being on the stage
- 29:45Speaker 1: and off the stage, but when it comes to planning
- 29:47Speaker 1: tours and events. But also what driving me is is
- 29:50Speaker 1: feeling like I'm actually fulfilling what I was born to do,
- 29:53Speaker 1: what I was calling to do. That is a driving
- 29:56Speaker 1: force to me, so excellent and then being in the
- 29:59Speaker 1: center of what I I'm supposed to be doing um
- 30:01Speaker 1: and not settling that that those are those are the
- 30:04Speaker 1: driving factors for me. And then so when somebody tells you.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I would tell you about me, a little bit about me,
- 30:10Speaker 1: you know, like my degrees in mathematics. And so I
- 30:14Speaker 1: was just in college. I was doing stand up comic
- 30:16Speaker 1: at night, stand up comedy at night. And so, you know,
- 30:19Speaker 1: people just like telling you know you're not gonna be
- 30:21Speaker 1: a Eddie Murphy. You know, people really tell you, but
- 30:23Speaker 1: your friends and your family can actually hold you back.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I'm just let you know that, right, the people you understand,
- 30:31Speaker 1: the people who are so close to you, can actually
- 30:33Speaker 1: be the people put the nail in it. But are
- 30:35Speaker 1: you wasting your time? You're wasting your time and so
- 30:38Speaker 1: so and so when I left IBM do stand up comedy,
- 30:42Speaker 1: they really thought I was crazy. And so so when
- 30:44Speaker 1: I when I look at you, and because you know
- 30:47Speaker 1: you you're now living in the Los Angeles areas, so
- 30:50Speaker 1: you're you're transplant. So how did you undercome overcome people
- 30:55Speaker 1: telling you what you couldn't do versus achieving what you
- 30:58Speaker 1: are achieving? Well, I had a very great from my family,
- 31:02Speaker 1: but my they has always been very supportive of me.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Before I even knew what my ability was and what
- 31:08Speaker 1: I was going to actually end up doing, my parents
- 31:11Speaker 1: spotted it in me first, before I actually knew that
- 31:14Speaker 1: I had sang the way that I sing or knew
- 31:16Speaker 1: that I had the ability and music, they spotted it
- 31:18Speaker 1: and then they started to They started to cultivate that
- 31:21Speaker 1: before I was even wanting to do it. So I'm
- 31:23Speaker 1: very grateful and uh for that. But then I also
- 31:26Speaker 1: watched my dad, who was from both both my parents.
- 31:28Speaker 1: My mom is from South America, my dad is from
- 31:31Speaker 1: the inner City of Baltimore, and stats would say that
- 31:34Speaker 1: they aren't supposed to be who they are now, but
- 31:36Speaker 1: I watched them not operate upon what stats. But they
- 31:39Speaker 1: were not defined by what the statistics said they should be,
- 31:42Speaker 1: and they would step into situations where they were the
- 31:45Speaker 1: odd man out. They were different. They were like, where
- 31:46Speaker 1: are you from? You know that those kind of vibes
- 31:48Speaker 1: happened because they weren't the traditional person that was expected
- 31:52Speaker 1: to be where they were. But they walked in there
- 31:54Speaker 1: knowing what their ability was and let everybody's um knowledge
- 31:58Speaker 1: of let let everybody figure agree out what they already knew.
- 32:01Speaker 1: They would walk into a room and be like, eventually
- 32:02Speaker 1: y'all will figure out that we're supposed to be here,
- 32:05Speaker 1: but until then, we're gonna stay here. We're not gonna
- 32:07Speaker 1: leave because y'all think we're not supposed to be here.
- 32:08Speaker 1: So I watched that my whole life, and so now
- 32:11Speaker 1: it created us, and there it created a driving me
- 32:14Speaker 1: where I am from my nature likes to choose faith
- 32:17Speaker 1: over fear and courage overcomfort. That's that's just because I
- 32:20Speaker 1: know on the other side of that there is something bigger,
- 32:23Speaker 1: broader and better waiting for me. When I choose faith
- 32:25Speaker 1: over fear, our courage overcomfort. That that's how I've gotten
- 32:28Speaker 1: to the place I am. It's because of my my family.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Now now you you appeared on the Voice correct, Yes, yeah,
- 32:35Speaker 1: I'm just trying to remember because I's also I would
- 32:37Speaker 1: look at some photos and I was and you know,
- 32:39Speaker 1: I'm one of those surfers, you know. I look at
- 32:42Speaker 1: television and I just go from channel to channel. And
- 32:44Speaker 1: now that did you sing a moth and a song
- 32:48Speaker 1: on the Voice? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I wasn't into that song.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I wasn't in that that that pan. I love our game,
- 32:54Speaker 1: but I wasn't. You know, you do down Anthony our
- 33:00Speaker 1: the Marvin game because people have told me I looked
- 33:02Speaker 1: like Martha Gage. I'm a Marvin gay fan, know, I'm saying,
- 33:04Speaker 1: I'm just gonna let you know that you put you
- 33:06Speaker 1: put me in the right angle, put me in the
- 33:08Speaker 1: right darkness. I'm Marvin Gaye, oh day know and so
- 33:14Speaker 1: and when you did that, Marvin, I said, wow, wow,
- 33:17Speaker 1: because you're a certain artists you just can't do. And
- 33:20Speaker 1: I remember, I remember because because because at the time,
- 33:24Speaker 1: Aguilara was still one of the judges. Correct, Yeah, she
- 33:27Speaker 1: she was. She was my coach on the show. Yeah,
- 33:29Speaker 1: I don't know you. I would dude, Hey, hey, that
- 33:31Speaker 1: might you might not have felt it, but you hit
- 33:33Speaker 1: it though, Okay, thank you. Which it's hard to feel
- 33:36Speaker 1: that scenario in general, where a quiet room and four backs,
- 33:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean, face you when you're saying
- 33:42Speaker 1: like you're trying to get people to turn around, it's
- 33:44Speaker 1: just a weird feeling. And I come from the church.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I come from church world, So like, what's going on? Right? Right?
- 33:50Speaker 1: I understand what you're saying because you used to people
- 33:52Speaker 1: giving it. It's being inspired by your voice, being inspired
- 33:55Speaker 1: by your movement, and you're looking at four chairs, you're
- 33:57Speaker 1: going okay, okay, and then then it's the song goes
- 34:00Speaker 1: along who it starts eating on you. Who's gonna turn rap,
- 34:04Speaker 1: who's gonna turn around? They're not gonna do me like this.
- 34:06Speaker 1: It's a lot of emotions to run your head when
- 34:08Speaker 1: you're actually performing on the voice, because you have convinced
- 34:11Speaker 1: four chairs to turn around, and as you say and
- 34:13Speaker 1: then turn around, you go okay, really on National TV. Really,
- 34:18Speaker 1: and normally you convinced them, You convinced people to turn
- 34:20Speaker 1: around normally with intensity and kind of going off and
- 34:23Speaker 1: doing the most. But Marvin gay didn't do that. So
- 34:25Speaker 1: I was like, I was choosing in my head to
- 34:27Speaker 1: honor Marvin Gaye and sing the song the way he would,
- 34:29Speaker 1: which is chilled. But but the way you got those
- 34:32Speaker 1: chairs to turn around was by doing the most. And
- 34:34Speaker 1: so I was I'm conflicted in my head because it's
- 34:37Speaker 1: just a weird it's just a weird feeling to try
- 34:39Speaker 1: to you know, he is the antithesis of doing the most.
- 34:43Speaker 1: He just was him and everybody loved him, you know
- 34:45Speaker 1: what I mean. So I was trying to figure it
- 34:47Speaker 1: out anyway. I want to let you know I know
- 34:51Speaker 1: of your abilities from that time frame. Now, prior to that,
- 34:55Speaker 1: you had already dropped an album. Correct, Yeah, I actually
- 34:58Speaker 1: had to three I had three albums out before The Voice,
- 35:02Speaker 1: So that's why it was weird going to the show
- 35:04Speaker 1: because people were like, you already have a career, You're
- 35:05Speaker 1: doing it. And that goes back to what I was
- 35:07Speaker 1: saying a minute ago, which is choosing courage over comfort
- 35:10Speaker 1: and faith. I could have been comfortable and just stayed
- 35:12Speaker 1: where I was, but this was an opportunity to do
- 35:14Speaker 1: something broad. I knew people would have stuff to say,
- 35:16Speaker 1: like what are you doing on a topic like why
- 35:18Speaker 1: would you do? You know? People talk, but I ask
- 35:21Speaker 1: forward to what's going on in my life because of
- 35:23Speaker 1: that show and the people in that nineties seconds during
- 35:27Speaker 1: a battle round, I sang in front of fifteen million
- 35:29Speaker 1: people at that point. That's how many people were watching
- 35:31Speaker 1: the show. And what happened after the show, because I
- 35:33Speaker 1: chose to be to move to to push through that
- 35:36Speaker 1: moment of like, wy should I be here or not?
- 35:38Speaker 1: Has been amazing. Stuff has happened off camera that no,
- 35:41Speaker 1: y'all wouldn't know about unless I told you, But it's
- 35:43Speaker 1: it's major. If we mentioned the Voice, we mentioned the
- 35:46Speaker 1: albums everything. What is your message? What is your general purpose?
- 35:49Speaker 1: I always tell people that I'm constantly building uh content
- 35:53Speaker 1: so I could just push down my efforts so people
- 35:55Speaker 1: could look at understand I am, I'm a three sixty
- 35:58Speaker 1: brand and so yeah, so like you know, I mentioned
- 36:01Speaker 1: the VARs and before the Wars you had already dropped
- 36:03Speaker 1: three cs. You know what I'm saying. And you're about
- 36:05Speaker 1: to go on a fall tour with your sister. What
- 36:08Speaker 1: is what is the plan? You know you got that,
- 36:10Speaker 1: you got the turn key company, You're reaching masses. You
- 36:13Speaker 1: know you even knew the fact that, hey, when you
- 36:15Speaker 1: was on divorce, you were seen by fifteen million. You're
- 36:17Speaker 1: very calculated in your approach and your planner correct, right, Yes, yes,
- 36:23Speaker 1: I'm very calculated in my approach. And I can answer
- 36:26Speaker 1: your question on two sides. I'll inswo it first from
- 36:29Speaker 1: the business side, because that's obviously what we're here. We're
- 36:31Speaker 1: here to talk about. Um. The business side is I
- 36:34Speaker 1: want to work hard. Basically, I want to work hard
- 36:36Speaker 1: in these years of creating new concepts and ideas so
- 36:39Speaker 1: that I'm diversified. And that's just a basic you know that,
- 36:43Speaker 1: that's just basic. That's released the money business. I want
- 36:45Speaker 1: to be diversified because I'm also aware of the fact
- 36:48Speaker 1: that in entertainment, especially or in I do gospel, but
- 36:53Speaker 1: in entertainment in general, I have to be aware that
- 36:55Speaker 1: there's always some new talent coming and eventually the road,
- 37:00Speaker 1: I'll be fifty five years old and there will be
- 37:01Speaker 1: some other year old that that is doing. I don't
- 37:05Speaker 1: let you have to go out and sing. I don't
- 37:06Speaker 1: want to feel like, you know, anybody need me to
- 37:09Speaker 1: come saying because I gotta pay them more. I don't
- 37:11Speaker 1: want that. Maybe it made me think of what are
- 37:15Speaker 1: other ways I can be intuitive about what um using
- 37:18Speaker 1: branches of this ability not not going way off. And
- 37:21Speaker 1: that was starting the production company. And that's also the
- 37:24Speaker 1: vocal vocal arranging and contracting, which started because of the voice.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Like we didn't talk about that, but I've vocal arranged
- 37:30Speaker 1: and contracted for Kanye and to Chains and Tyler the
- 37:34Speaker 1: creatives Last Album and Blackish and all these different TVs
- 37:38Speaker 1: because of the chance I took on myself going to
- 37:40Speaker 1: the voice. So it started to diversify me. So the
- 37:42Speaker 1: goal on the business side is to be diversified to
- 37:45Speaker 1: what I don't have to I get to do what
- 37:47Speaker 1: I want to do. I'm doing what I'm living kind
- 37:50Speaker 1: of in a state of um of of developing that
- 37:53Speaker 1: so that later on I don't have a lot of
- 37:55Speaker 1: half to I can. I can operate from a place
- 37:57Speaker 1: of want to not have to. And then sir, yes,
- 38:01Speaker 1: you know I call that. I call that multiple streams
- 38:03Speaker 1: of income on this show that you just talked about,
- 38:06Speaker 1: called multiple streams of income. Like you said, Hey, man,
- 38:09Speaker 1: when I wake up, if somebody tell me no, I go,
- 38:11Speaker 1: I just go back to sleep. That's just one, you know.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Oh oh that's overweight. Okay, cool, okay, cool, my wife
- 38:17Speaker 1: look at me. You know, I don't stress. I don't.
- 38:19Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not gonna put myself in a position
- 38:21Speaker 1: where somebody tells one person tells me my my, my
- 38:24Speaker 1: gigs over with, my life's over, my last checks over.
- 38:26Speaker 1: That can't happen with me. I've learned that. I've learned that.
- 38:29Speaker 1: And that's all you're telling that my listeners in our
- 38:32Speaker 1: viewer exactly exactly. And then the other point, it's real quick.
- 38:36Speaker 1: I was gonna touch on it that my purpose also
- 38:38Speaker 1: is not just to be um about not well. Because
- 38:42Speaker 1: I'm a gospel singer. I'm not just trying to be
- 38:43Speaker 1: about the bottom line, which is very important. But I
- 38:46Speaker 1: also want to make sure that the work I'm doing
- 38:48Speaker 1: is resonating in people's hearts and their souls. And I
- 38:51Speaker 1: there's don't be a story to tell above and beyond
- 38:54Speaker 1: money or number one, because those can come and go.
- 38:57Speaker 1: But but what happens in the lives of the people
- 38:59Speaker 1: that you're impacting, whatever field you're in. It's a happens
- 39:01Speaker 1: to be more obvious with me because of what I do.
- 39:03Speaker 1: But I think that that the peace and the emotional
- 39:06Speaker 1: health and spiritual health that comes from Matt's also has
- 39:10Speaker 1: a value. May not be a monetary value, but there
- 39:13Speaker 1: is something to be said about making a good living
- 39:15Speaker 1: and being excited about what's happening in you and others
- 39:18Speaker 1: emotionally and spiritually. I believe it's all tied together. That's
- 39:21Speaker 1: all prosperities to me, that's all being wealthy to me,
- 39:25Speaker 1: It goes beyond just the bank account. I love this dude.
- 39:29Speaker 1: You from Dallas, Texas. I'm from Houston, Texas. Uh, I'm
- 39:32Speaker 1: a foodie. I'm a foodie. I got I got nanny
- 39:35Speaker 1: seconds left in this show. Um, I'm gonna just tell
- 39:37Speaker 1: you this. Uh, you know how the best food in
- 39:39Speaker 1: the world is in Houston, Texas. Now I'm just gonna
- 39:42Speaker 1: let y'all know Dallas, Houston, Texas is generally. I know
- 39:49Speaker 1: you've been in Houston. Now, what where do you ate
- 39:52Speaker 1: toward you? Is where we live in Houston. Loopy, he's
- 39:57Speaker 1: not lying. Looping is you get the Pento beans? They listen,
- 40:05Speaker 1: I get to everything. I'm telling something. I would tell
- 40:09Speaker 1: my wife Chico, I come home because I live in Houston.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I live in Atlanta. She said, what you want say,
- 40:14Speaker 1: let's go by loope because they staying breakfast. They say breakfast.
- 40:18Speaker 1: You know I'm telling the true And though I'm telling something,
- 40:20Speaker 1: those beans with what they look through the chip, Oh lord,
- 40:25Speaker 1: and that's where it starts to me. They got so
- 40:28Speaker 1: much going on in there. So yes, I I actually
- 40:31Speaker 1: had my account on one time called me and go,
- 40:32Speaker 1: what is this loope to a place? You need to
- 40:34Speaker 1: slow it out? Like that's that's how much you need
- 40:36Speaker 1: to start. Family means it to Rushaw and my wife.
- 40:40Speaker 1: I'm going to town Saturday. I kid you not, I'll
- 40:42Speaker 1: be leading a loope is told to you because I
- 40:45Speaker 1: go to the the one right on our tennis right around
- 40:46Speaker 1: my house. So Anthony, next time you come to Houston,
- 40:50Speaker 1: know that you eat right around my house. You need
- 40:52Speaker 1: to call me boy gay perfect. I gotta listen. I
- 40:55Speaker 1: will hit you up at two seconds. All right, but man,
- 40:57Speaker 1: you stay strong. I love you, brother. You keep winning
- 40:59Speaker 1: and always know this is family. Come to me. We
- 41:02Speaker 1: need to promote something. Okay, thank you, Thank you for
- 41:04Speaker 1: your time. I appreciate it. I was looking for a
- 41:09Speaker 1: better way to check in on our house while I
- 41:11Speaker 1: was at work, and a friend recommended Blink. I was skeptical,
- 41:14Speaker 1: but decided to give it a shot, and I bought
- 41:16Speaker 1: a Blink camera system. With our last security system, false alarms,
- 41:20Speaker 1: wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we couldn't get out of
- 41:23Speaker 1: my bad But our Blink system is different. Their motion
- 41:25Speaker 1: activated cameras that work inside and outside, their wire free,
- 41:29Speaker 1: easy to set up, and they run on two lithium
- 41:31Speaker 1: batteries that last up to two years. Total peace of
- 41:33Speaker 1: mind and Blink camera system started under eighty bucks with
- 41:36Speaker 1: no subscriptions. We were on vacation and I gotten to
- 41:39Speaker 1: learn of my smartphone that motion was detected at our
- 41:42Speaker 1: front door. I checked my Blink app and I saw
- 41:44Speaker 1: it was just my cool new device being delivered. Hey,
- 41:47Speaker 1: we agreed no new devices except Blink just kidding, not kidding.
- 41:51Speaker 1: With Blink camera systems starting under eighty bucks, home security
- 41:54Speaker 1: just got easier. Go to Blink Protected dot Com, slash Secure,
- 41:59Speaker 1: Blink Protect acts dot Com, Slash Secure, blink Protect dot
- 42:03Speaker 1: Com slash Secure. Blink is an Amazon company and it
- 42:07Speaker 1: works with Alexa Wow. Money making conversations. Well, I've heard
- 42:14Speaker 1: a great day. I always have a great day. The
- 42:15Speaker 1: staff told me I came here looking sluggish, but said
- 42:18Speaker 1: that I picked up the pace, which is always good
- 42:20Speaker 1: to know that they have approved of my energy level
- 42:24Speaker 1: home money making conversations, Sam, I good, Sam thumbs up,
- 42:28Speaker 1: Slams gives me the thumbs up. But next year I
- 42:30Speaker 1: saw our power couple. Hadn't had them on short a
- 42:32Speaker 1: long time, but they are fantastic. Last time I in
- 42:35Speaker 1: in season three of Black Love and when I had
- 42:39Speaker 1: them own the season one at Premier and it was
- 42:42Speaker 1: two great numbers. They are the creators of the popular
- 42:44Speaker 1: series Black Love that airs on the own network UM
- 42:48Speaker 1: two great numbers uh in season three. Like I stated earlier,
- 42:51Speaker 1: the goal is to become the hub for black couples
- 42:54Speaker 1: and singles looking to build community and conversation around healthy relationships.
- 42:59Speaker 1: A free stage of life. Please welcome back to money
- 43:03Speaker 1: making Conversation. My favorite couple, Cody and Tommy Oliver. Hello,
- 43:09Speaker 1: your favorite couple. You gotta to you know, because y'all
- 43:13Speaker 1: y'all doing what so many people have said. It is
- 43:16Speaker 1: a problem in the in the black community, not understanding
- 43:19Speaker 1: relationships amongst each other, not communicating with each other. And
- 43:23Speaker 1: it also you know, I don't know, are you helping
- 43:26Speaker 1: to find what black relationships can be? And they and
- 43:31Speaker 1: when I say that, I mean they could be so
- 43:33Speaker 1: many different levels and so sometimes you know, I come
- 43:36Speaker 1: from a traditional black family, you know, more from the South.
- 43:40Speaker 1: My mom didn't work, she stayed at home and and
- 43:42Speaker 1: a lot of African American's my age have that experience
- 43:47Speaker 1: like that. But technology has changed so many things. So
- 43:50Speaker 1: the experience of what black love is is being communicated
- 43:53Speaker 1: differently to so many people. And that's why you are
- 43:56Speaker 1: my favorite. Tommy favorite is incredibly kind and we appreciate
- 44:02Speaker 1: that a lot. Absolutely tell me what's going on? Season three? Brother?
- 44:05Speaker 1: Come on now? Season three? There was the season three Yeah,
- 44:11Speaker 1: you you seem to have the scoop. I have to
- 44:15Speaker 1: scoop that I'm gonna have some information. But to me,
- 44:19Speaker 1: about it that you guys created this project, which which
- 44:22Speaker 1: I think is really let's go let's go back to
- 44:24Speaker 1: getting started. The first started because it was just an idea.
- 44:28Speaker 1: It was a concept where you called what I say,
- 44:30Speaker 1: called on favors to get people to reveal themselves in
- 44:34Speaker 1: an emotional manner as a couple. And then it and
- 44:37Speaker 1: then it aired and wail right, so we um, you know,
- 44:42Speaker 1: not quite that simple, but it felt like Hollywood's magic
- 44:49Speaker 1: happened for several years before there. But yeah, we we
- 44:54Speaker 1: certainly called on favors in terms of relationships with with
- 44:57Speaker 1: some friends and friends of friends and parents, friends to
- 45:01Speaker 1: sit down and have honest conversations. And Tommy and I
- 45:04Speaker 1: have kept it just the four of us in a room,
- 45:06Speaker 1: met him and the couple. So there's no gaffer, there's
- 45:09Speaker 1: no p a, there's no you know, there's yeah, the
- 45:14Speaker 1: four of us. Tommy does all the production and I
- 45:17Speaker 1: just asked the question, and and so we keep it
- 45:20Speaker 1: really intimate. And then and we've and we've tried to
- 45:23Speaker 1: maintain that um through season one, season two and what's
- 45:29Speaker 1: to come. And you know what, I think you move
- 45:33Speaker 1: inspired us. I think we should probably make an anouncement
- 45:36Speaker 1: sometimes here's the deal. Here's the deal, Tommy, you inspire me. Okay,
- 45:42Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about a little bit about the things
- 45:44Speaker 1: that you guys do outside of UH, outside of UH,
- 45:48Speaker 1: you know, black love because of the fact that this
- 45:51Speaker 1: is so important because of the fact that black people
- 45:54Speaker 1: were interesting group of people were interesting people. You know,
- 45:57Speaker 1: we don't talk about situation. When it comes to health issues,
- 46:01Speaker 1: we don't. We don't lad to talk about mental issues,
- 46:04Speaker 1: you know, we don't want to talk about I definitely
- 46:06Speaker 1: want to talk about these sexual issues. Okay, So, so
- 46:10Speaker 1: we we we were live in this little boxed world
- 46:12Speaker 1: of bad information, you know, and so and that bad
- 46:16Speaker 1: information really doesn't help because guess what if you're passing
- 46:21Speaker 1: along bad information leads to more ignorance, and so socially
- 46:25Speaker 1: and emotionally within our community we live. We live in
- 46:29Speaker 1: a box of lies, I believe, and your show, I
- 46:35Speaker 1: feel starts to peel back the truth and allow people
- 46:39Speaker 1: to be honest. That's why that's why I'm I'm fans
- 46:42Speaker 1: because of the fact that, you know, it's an idea
- 46:46Speaker 1: that that that only YouTube could have thought of, because
- 46:49Speaker 1: of the fact that it was derived through through a
- 46:52Speaker 1: trail of emotions through an idea of that this is
- 46:55Speaker 1: the truth and this is what's really happening, and we
- 46:58Speaker 1: want to reveal it. That's why when I watched an episode,
- 47:01Speaker 1: you know, it's really intimate to me. And you know,
- 47:04Speaker 1: I see him sitting here close to each other on
- 47:05Speaker 1: the sofa. You know, nobody's you know, nobody's worried about
- 47:08Speaker 1: the shirt being buttoned up right on the pants. Talk
- 47:10Speaker 1: to time. They just you know, I'll be going, Okay,
- 47:13Speaker 1: they could have fixed their shirt right there, but this
- 47:15Speaker 1: is but this is, this is the moment. You know,
- 47:17Speaker 1: I'm being a producer, you know what I'm saying exactly.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Trust me, sometimes I'm thinking it too. But I'm also like,
- 47:23Speaker 1: you know what, I don't want to stop right what's
- 47:27Speaker 1: what's happening right now? I don't want to stop someone
- 47:29Speaker 1: from sharing something by making themselves conscious. And so much
- 47:34Speaker 1: of it is, you know, like Cody said, it's the
- 47:36Speaker 1: four of his interroment. And so when you're sitting down
- 47:39Speaker 1: with your friends or with your marriage mentors, if you
- 47:42Speaker 1: are fortunate enough to have them and somebody's shirt has
- 47:46Speaker 1: had something, you're not gonna be like, yo, bro, what's
- 47:47Speaker 1: up with your shirt? Right? Right right, right, right right,
- 47:50Speaker 1: because it will it will break the moment because it's
- 47:52Speaker 1: like it's about our story about how we should look
- 47:57Speaker 1: you feel me, yeah, and then that's what that's what
- 47:59Speaker 1: you know. I feel that that stops communication within the
- 48:03Speaker 1: within the our black families. And that's why when I
- 48:07Speaker 1: look at the show, when you first came on the
- 48:09Speaker 1: show and they sent me some of take to review
- 48:12Speaker 1: the show and really get a clue understand of the show,
- 48:15Speaker 1: my big takeaway was thank you, thank you for allowing
- 48:19Speaker 1: us to talk and what what and hear me speak
- 48:23Speaker 1: like this, What has been the most satisfied takeaway from
- 48:26Speaker 1: you guys with your show? I think it's been twofold one.
- 48:32Speaker 1: There is a sense of selfishness and so we started
- 48:38Speaker 1: the show because there are a couple of reasons. The
- 48:40Speaker 1: one was because we didn't have the examples that we
- 48:43Speaker 1: felt we needed in order to be properly equipped and
- 48:47Speaker 1: to be able to have a marriage back into this
- 48:50Speaker 1: name until we wanted to talk to people who had
- 48:53Speaker 1: done it. And so I think we've learned a lot
- 48:55Speaker 1: and we're still struggling and working through things, but having
- 48:58Speaker 1: gone through these couples in these interviews and this experience
- 49:02Speaker 1: has certainly given us tools that helps us day to day.
- 49:07Speaker 1: But beyond that, like you said, the idea of there
- 49:11Speaker 1: are two things, we don't see ourselves. So before this
- 49:14Speaker 1: we hadn't seen ourselves much in the right way. We
- 49:17Speaker 1: were always categorized or misrepresented on TV or on social media.
- 49:22Speaker 1: And but we knew sort of like privately, we knew
- 49:26Speaker 1: that there were couples that made our work. We knew
- 49:27Speaker 1: that you know, there was a neighbor, the neighbor across
- 49:30Speaker 1: the street, or that you know a couple from the
- 49:32Speaker 1: church or whatever has been but they just never got
- 49:34Speaker 1: any shine. And so we wanted to be able to
- 49:37Speaker 1: show people no, no, no, we are out there. It's
- 49:39Speaker 1: happy love and couples. And then we wanted to be
- 49:41Speaker 1: able to normalize the this understanding of marriage and how
- 49:46Speaker 1: things actually worked, which is very different than if you
- 49:50Speaker 1: take your cues from TV or film. Now, when you
- 49:54Speaker 1: say when I was when I was reading some of
- 49:56Speaker 1: your credits, it was saying, uh, the goal is to
- 49:58Speaker 1: become the hub, which means that you want to be
- 50:01Speaker 1: a creative content of black couples and singles looking to
- 50:05Speaker 1: build community and conversation around healthy relationships at every stage
- 50:09Speaker 1: of your life. Explain that man, explain that format. So
- 50:13Speaker 1: with with some Black Love, the series that is on own, UM,
- 50:17Speaker 1: we were able to show couples, married couples making it
- 50:21Speaker 1: work and what that requires, right UM. But one of
- 50:25Speaker 1: the things that we noticed is that in order to
- 50:29Speaker 1: have a healthy, happy relationship, a lot of the times
- 50:32Speaker 1: the relationships of your past and not you know, boyfriend's
- 50:35Speaker 1: girlfriends exclusively, but your parents, your siblings, your best friends,
- 50:39Speaker 1: those relationships being fractured, those relationships having trauma, those relationships
- 50:45Speaker 1: being uncomfortable or as you mentioned, you know, not talking
- 50:48Speaker 1: about what's real. UM play a role in your marriage
- 50:52Speaker 1: because they play a role in your expectations and UM
- 50:56Speaker 1: and how you operate in your patterns. And so we
- 50:58Speaker 1: actually launched black love dot com to expand the conversation
- 51:03Speaker 1: past marriage. You know, we felt like it was important
- 51:05Speaker 1: to keep talking about marriage and partnership, but also to
- 51:08Speaker 1: talk about those other I guess tenants of one's life
- 51:11Speaker 1: and how important it is when we're trying to like
- 51:15Speaker 1: build a relationship for decades UM, to make sure that
- 51:18Speaker 1: those other areas are healthy as well. This is a
- 51:21Speaker 1: passion project that I love talking to you too. About
- 51:26Speaker 1: because it's started with love. It's gonna be built on love,
- 51:29Speaker 1: and it's gonna be you guys are going to become
- 51:31Speaker 1: you know, content creators, content builders, holders of this information,
- 51:36Speaker 1: and distributors of this information. And I think that's amazing
- 51:39Speaker 1: that you've been able to find this level of balance
- 51:41Speaker 1: in your personal life and your professional life and something
- 51:44Speaker 1: that's a passion driven project that can make money. Rache.
- 51:48Speaker 1: And we didn't say we had any balance in our
- 51:50Speaker 1: personal life. What did you say? I said we we
- 51:55Speaker 1: didn't say we have any balance in our personal life.
- 51:57Speaker 1: You do have about three kids were under three. You're
- 52:03Speaker 1: talking to me on this radio show right now. There's
- 52:05Speaker 1: part there that's balance because the kids somewhere else, somebody,
- 52:08Speaker 1: somebody else take care. I know what balance is. I

- 53:10Speaker 1: out there and people just it's out of sight, out
- 53:12Speaker 1: of mind, and so as such, where the movie is
