Man Charged in Fatal Shooting and Police Attack | Sioux City News
A man named Austin Reed is facing first-degree murder and attempted murder charges after allegedly fatally shooting a woman, Toni Salazar, and then firing at an Iowa State Patrol trooper who arrived on the scene. The shooting occurred at a Stuart residence around 3:34 PM; Reed reportedly approached Salazar from behind with a shotgun, which failed to fire when aimed at them. Trooper Chase Carruthers was shot during the confrontation and is hospitalized in stable condition.
