- 0:00John chapter 4. Therefore, when the Lord knew
- 0:03that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and
- 0:05baptizing more disciples than John, although Jesus himself was
- 0:09not baptizing, but His disciples were, he left Judea and went
- 0:12away again into Galilee. And he had to pass through
- 0:15Samaria. So he came to a city of Samaria
- 0:18called Cycar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his
- 0:21son Joseph. And Jacob's well was there.
- 0:24So Jesus, being wearied from his journey, was sitting thus by the
- 0:26well. It was about the 6th hour there
- 0:29came a woman of Samaria to draw water.
- 0:32Jesus said to her, give me a drink, for his disciples had
- 0:35gone away into the city to buy food.
- 0:37Therefore the Samaritan woman said to him, How is it that you
- 0:41being a Jew ask me for a drink, since I am a Samaritan woman,
- 0:45for Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
- 0:47Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God and
- 0:51who it is who says to you, give me a drink, you would have asked
- 0:54him, and he would have given you living water.
- 0:57She said to him, Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the
- 1:00well is deep, where do you get that living water?
- 1:03You are not greater than our Father Jacob, are you who gave
- 1:05us the well and drank of it himself and his sons and his
- 1:08cattle. Jesus answered and said to her,
- 1:11Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again, but
- 1:15whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never
- 1:17thirst, but the water that I will give him will become in him
- 1:20a well of water springing up to eternal life.
- 1:23The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, though I will not
- 1:27be thirsty, nor come all the way here to draw.
- 1:30He said to her, Go call your husband and come here.
- 1:33The woman answered and said, I have no husband.
- 1:36Jesus said to her, You have correctly said, I have no
- 1:39husband, for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you
- 1:42now have is not your husband. This you have said truly.
- 1:46The woman said to him, Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
- 1:50Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and you people say
- 1:53that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
- 1:55Jesus said to her, Woman, believe me, an hour is coming
- 1:58when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you
- 2:01worship the Father. You worship what you do not
- 2:03know. We worship what we know, for
- 2:05salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming, and now
- 2:08is when the true worshippers will worship the Father in
- 2:12spirit and truth. For such people the Father seeks
- 2:15to be his worshippers. God is spirit and those who
- 2:18worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
- 2:21The woman said to him, I know that Messiah is coming, He who
- 2:24is called Christ, when that one comes, he will declare all
- 2:27things to us. Jesus said to her, I who speak
- 2:30to you am He. At this point his disciples came
- 2:33and they were amazed that he had been speaking with a woman, yet
- 2:36no one said, What do you seek or why do you speak with her?
- 2:39So the woman left her water pot and went into the city and said
- 2:41to the men, Come see a man who told me all the things that I've
- 2:44done. This is not the Christ, is it?
- 2:47They went out of the city and were coming to him.
- 2:50Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, Rabbi eat.
- 2:53But he said to them, I have food to eat that you do not know
- 2:55about South. The disciples were saying to one
- 2:58another, No one brought him anything to eat, did he?
- 3:01Jesus said to them, My food is to do the will of him who sent
- 3:04me, and to accomplish his work. Do you not say there are yet
- 3:08four months, and then comes the harvest.
- 3:10Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the
- 3:13fields, that they are white for harvest already.
- 3:16He who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life
- 3:19eternal, so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice
- 3:22together. For in this case the saying is
- 3:24true. 1 sows and another reaps. I sent you to reap that for
- 3:29which you have not laboured. Others have laboured, and you
- 3:31have entered into their labour from that city.
- 3:33Many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of
- 3:36the woman who testified. He told me all the things that I
- 3:39have done. So when the Samaritans came to
- 3:41Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them, and he stayed
- 3:43there two days. Many more believed because of
- 3:46His word, and they were saying to the woman, It is no longer
- 3:49because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for
- 3:52ourselves and know that this one is indeed the Saviour of the
- 3:55world. After the two days he went forth
- 3:57from there into Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that
- 4:00a prophet has no honour in his own country.
- 4:03So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans received him, having
- 4:06seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast, for
- 4:09they themselves also went to the feast.
- 4:11Therefore he came again to Cana of Galilee, where he had made
- 4:14the water wine. And there was a royal official
- 4:16whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had
- 4:19come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him and was imploring
- 4:23him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of
- 4:26death. So Jesus said to him, Unless you
- 4:28people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.
- 4:31The royal official said to him, Sir, come down before my child
- 4:34dies. Jesus said to him, Go, your son
- 4:37lives. The man believed the word that
- 4:40Jesus spoke to him and started off.
- 4:42As he was now going down, his slaves met him saying that his
- 4:44son was living. So he inquired of them the hour
- 4:47that he began to get better. Then they said to him yesterday
- 4:51at the 7th hour the fever left him.
- 4:53So the father knew that it was at the hour in which Jesus said
- 4:56to him, Your son lives, and he himself believed in his whole
- 4:59household. This is again a second sign that
- 5:02Jesus performed when he had come out of Judea into Galilee.
