- 2:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Money Making Conversation, Miss Diana M. Williams. Good morning,
- 2:21Speaker 1: good morning, and how you're doing. Good morning, Good morning,
- 2:24Speaker 1: Good morning. Back to you. How you doing, my friend,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm going good. Trying to fight the Atlanta traffic. Well,
- 2:34Speaker 1: don't worry about it. Just to take your time. Like
- 2:36Speaker 1: I said, this Atlanta, it's not gonna go anywhere. And
- 2:38Speaker 1: you're on the phone with me and we're here to
- 2:40Speaker 1: talk about this a wonderful book that you wrote and
- 2:42Speaker 1: talk about your career. Uh and with with with success.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Let's start out front. You know dancing, Well, here's a
- 2:49Speaker 1: passion for you. When I when I go through the book,
- 2:52Speaker 1: it really becomes something a centerpiece for you as far
- 2:55Speaker 1: as what made, what makes who you are and what
- 2:58Speaker 1: drives you to your success? How how did dance it
- 3:01Speaker 1: become so important in your life? It says you started
- 3:03Speaker 1: at the age of four, but a lot of people
- 3:05Speaker 1: with their children and dance a lot of people put
- 3:08Speaker 1: their children in evenge How did how did how did
- 3:10Speaker 1: it just became such a dynamic motivator for you? Well,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and it came it was an outlet. You know, it
- 3:17Speaker 1: was more for me something to do to trying to
- 3:20Speaker 1: escape the world that was around me. Then became way
- 3:24Speaker 1: for me and just be free and feel free with
- 3:28Speaker 1: no stress, no worries, no judgment because dances, it's it's
- 3:31Speaker 1: so many different things, just thought prifted. It's the right
- 3:35Speaker 1: or wrong way. It's just either it's movement with excitement
- 3:38Speaker 1: and happiness. For me, it just became something that it
- 3:41Speaker 1: was just a vital, pivotal part of my life and
- 3:44Speaker 1: important to me, right right right? And uh and then
- 3:49Speaker 1: that being the way it said is that let's talk
- 3:51Speaker 1: about your background. And you know it started start that
- 3:53Speaker 1: home life. So if I'm reading everything correctly, here, Um,
- 3:56Speaker 1: your mom she took care of a lot of foster kids,
- 3:59Speaker 1: correct she did. Yeah, and you kind of like took
- 4:02Speaker 1: on a kind of a parental role in that basically
- 4:06Speaker 1: they lived there, but she was kind of like the
- 4:08Speaker 1: the mom. And so how did that impact your life
- 4:13Speaker 1: as a kid. Did it take away from you being
- 4:15Speaker 1: a kid or did it advance your maturity. How did
- 4:18Speaker 1: that have How did that affect you? Well? I think
- 4:21Speaker 1: honestly it affected me positively and negatively. I learned how
- 4:25Speaker 1: to be more organized, I learned how to be more
- 4:29Speaker 1: responsible early on, But at the same time, being ten
- 4:33Speaker 1: and eleven years old, I didn't really want the responsibility
- 4:36Speaker 1: of cleaning the house and having to cook and taking
- 4:40Speaker 1: care of kids when I was simply a kid myself.
- 4:43Speaker 1: But as I was back on, you know, as I've
- 4:45Speaker 1: gotten older, it is definitely, you know, kept me where
- 4:49Speaker 1: I need to be, definitely kept my head on a
- 4:51Speaker 1: swimbl It's definitely, you know, made me be the stronger,
- 4:55Speaker 1: stronger person, definitely, And being a stronger person is that,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know, allowed you to expec There is some negative
- 5:01Speaker 1: things in your youth and some negative things of your
- 5:03Speaker 1: adult Then we'll get to that later on, but let's
- 5:05Speaker 1: talk about your youth and let's talk about the story
- 5:08Speaker 1: that you Why did you write this book, Ms Williams, Well,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I wrote this look because I felt like there was
- 5:14Speaker 1: a need for me to pretty much get it out
- 5:17Speaker 1: and get it off from my chest. I wasn't able
- 5:19Speaker 1: to really function, if that makes any sense. I wasn't
- 5:22Speaker 1: able to function and move on and just be happy
- 5:25Speaker 1: because I felt like there was just something missing. There
- 5:28Speaker 1: was a part of me that just that just wasn't
- 5:31Speaker 1: It wasn't fair. I wasn't all the way there. I
- 5:33Speaker 1: wasn't happy, and I couldn't really figure out why I
- 5:36Speaker 1: wasn't as happy as I should have been. Here. I
- 5:39Speaker 1: am at a at a peace point in my life.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I have people think out the world of my fingertips,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know, but I'm still human. I have a great
- 5:46Speaker 1: TELEVTI the show, I have a great family, I have
- 5:48Speaker 1: a driving business getting Still something was missing, and I
- 5:52Speaker 1: think that one part of me still was missing that
- 5:55Speaker 1: acceptance from my mom, closure from the situation with my
- 6:00Speaker 1: mom and my dad. And it's kind of jetting it
- 6:02Speaker 1: out if The book was very much so therapeutic for
- 6:05Speaker 1: me because I was able to talk about things that
- 6:07Speaker 1: I had never said out loud. But it was helpful
- 6:11Speaker 1: on every level. Was very helpful. Now that's important. Let's
- 6:15Speaker 1: talk about that relationship with your mom and your dad.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Your dad was there and then he was moved, Then
- 6:20Speaker 1: he moved out. What what age he moved out of
- 6:23Speaker 1: the house. Um, I would say moved out kind of
- 6:27Speaker 1: more got put out. Well, I'm gonna let you tell
- 6:30Speaker 1: some of your story too, because I don't want to
- 6:32Speaker 1: be negative about anything in your life. I don't want
- 6:34Speaker 1: to portray an image of your life because as your experience,
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Well, and I was a
- 6:40Speaker 1: pretty teen, so it was like twelve thirteen. It was
- 6:44Speaker 1: around that time happened, and uh and and so not
- 6:48Speaker 1: having that farther figure. You said in the book that
- 6:50Speaker 1: it reflected on how your view and your relationship with
- 6:55Speaker 1: men and how you should move forward and how men
- 6:58Speaker 1: should be approaching you because stage of thirteen, you was
- 7:01Speaker 1: violated by your babysitter, uh, when he groped you and
- 7:06Speaker 1: while you playing the video game, and so and that
- 7:08Speaker 1: that that had a lasting impression on you. And then
- 7:11Speaker 1: your father's not there. That had an equal, equal important
- 7:15Speaker 1: message that you're trying to tell people about the importantesce
- 7:18Speaker 1: of of a positive male figure, not only in anybody's life,
- 7:22Speaker 1: but especially in a young female girl's life. Correct, that's
- 7:25Speaker 1: the holy and it's I thought to it. The message
- 7:27Speaker 1: was to send a message to parents with watch who
- 7:30Speaker 1: you guys your kids around. Don't leave your kids with
- 7:33Speaker 1: this to anybody, because the face that they put on
- 7:35Speaker 1: is not always the face that they are. I mean,
- 7:37Speaker 1: this man was somebody that not only my mother lives
- 7:40Speaker 1: with my grandparents liked him. He was always around the
- 7:43Speaker 1: kids at the different schools. But I guess because he
- 7:46Speaker 1: sawed me in a vulnerable stage wanting to my mom's attention.
- 7:49Speaker 1: My dad wasn't there. I had always responsibility of my siblings.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I don't know if he just felt like maybe I
- 7:56Speaker 1: needed attention. I'm not exactly shared because that trame out
- 7:58Speaker 1: of nowhere. It happened, and I didn't really know whether
- 8:03Speaker 1: to react or not react, or I didn't really know
- 8:07Speaker 1: what was happening or how to even hamplet right, And
- 8:11Speaker 1: it's importantly I'm on the phone. She's on the phone.
- 8:14Speaker 1: She's from the start of the hit show on Lifetime.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Bring It. She's a very She's released a very significant,
- 8:20Speaker 1: significant book called Standing in the Shade. That's Diana and Williams.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Diana homestag is Mississippi correct, absolutely, so you know aboudy
- 8:30Speaker 1: good food, I'm sure right, Oh yeah, is hard to
- 8:35Speaker 1: find it. And you know about hbc U S. There's
- 8:39Speaker 1: a certain amount of pride in this book about graduating
- 8:43Speaker 1: from hbc U school. Why is that important? Well, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I grew up in HBC town in Jackson, Mississippi, and
- 8:51Speaker 1: then also to I have family that went to school
- 8:53Speaker 1: you know here right here in Atlanta. My my uncle
- 8:58Speaker 1: Billy graduated for more Hours the more House Man. I
- 9:02Speaker 1: went to Lawrence Brown, you know. And then my family
- 9:05Speaker 1: that's on the Howard and majority of the other majority
- 9:09Speaker 1: have gone to Jackson's Faith. I knew I was gonna
- 9:11Speaker 1: end up at Jackson State somehow frowhere. My mother graduated
- 9:14Speaker 1: from JAISH. So I mean, hbc US have been a
- 9:17Speaker 1: part of our life. It was always, you know, meant
- 9:20Speaker 1: to be proud to be an African American. You had
- 9:22Speaker 1: to go to an HBC you was the only way
- 9:24Speaker 1: you were gonna learn what it truly meant to be black.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And in college, you know, going to different schools. You know,
- 9:31Speaker 1: me ACT and you know, the SEC School and a
- 9:33Speaker 1: lot of other B one schools. It's amazing. But you
- 9:36Speaker 1: don't get that black college experience unless you're at a
- 9:39Speaker 1: black college. That's true because I went to University of Houston,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and I don't know the experience, but the experience is
- 9:45Speaker 1: always exciting when I see it though it's on fire.
- 9:47Speaker 1: That it's on fire. Now, you chose a degree in
- 9:51Speaker 1: criminal justice. That was that's interesting, You're you're prominent. Why
- 9:55Speaker 1: why why that degree? Plan? Well, I chose criminal justice
- 9:59Speaker 1: with the concentration and juvenal justice because of everything that
- 10:02Speaker 1: had happened to me. I felt like I needed to
- 10:03Speaker 1: have some type of power and to enforce something in
- 10:07Speaker 1: my life that I didn't have the opportunity to really control.
- 10:11Speaker 1: And me being able to enforce some type of control
- 10:15Speaker 1: was perfect for me because it was like, when you
- 10:16Speaker 1: know what, hey, let me put myself in a position
- 10:20Speaker 1: of power. Through school, gained all the knowledge that I
- 10:22Speaker 1: need to gain about the criminal justice system. So things
- 10:26Speaker 1: that could potentially that could have happened to me if
- 10:29Speaker 1: it happened again, what happened to anyone else, then let's
- 10:33Speaker 1: control that and this one and then my concentration in
- 10:36Speaker 1: juvenal justice them from me basically saying, you know what,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I can try to be a protector of children. I
- 10:42Speaker 1: also want to talk about this that doll that you
- 10:44Speaker 1: have out now, you know, how did that come about?
- 10:47Speaker 1: The doll that or one can buy online? Tell us
- 10:49Speaker 1: about that? Well, I have a dog that pretty much
- 10:53Speaker 1: is made in my image. She's a beautiful brown colored
- 10:56Speaker 1: doll that looks it's identical to me. It's something that
- 10:59Speaker 1: I thought was important, necessary for young brown girls to
- 11:02Speaker 1: see someone that looks just like them, someone that they
- 11:05Speaker 1: look up to, someone that is making loose and an entrepreneur,
- 11:08Speaker 1: where I suppressed for one at that, but they can say, hell,
- 11:11Speaker 1: you know what, she has one of them, maybe I
- 11:13Speaker 1: can have one too. And I grew up with rappids,
- 11:16Speaker 1: pat Than the ragget again and anty dogs, and I
- 11:19Speaker 1: had a trappiscussed doll. She was brown, but all the
- 11:21Speaker 1: browns dogs looked alike, and all brown people don't look alike.
- 11:25Speaker 1: But I didn't feel like, you know, actually had anything
- 11:28Speaker 1: that looked like anyone else. And because I'm unique in
- 11:31Speaker 1: every way, I felt like my dogs should look unique,
- 11:34Speaker 1: just like me. Diana and Williams, please, uh, congratulations on
- 11:39Speaker 1: your life. I want you to come back on the show.
- 11:41Speaker 1: This was not long enough. She has a very hot
- 11:44Speaker 1: book called Standing in the Shade. Please pick up that book.
- 11:46Speaker 1: She has a doll out there it looks just like her,
- 11:49Speaker 1: Please pick that up. To you've been listening to money

- 16:10Speaker 1: shut up and let Mr Stamps top. You much too time,
- 16:14Speaker 1: my friend. But that's a little slipping on those my pillows.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It also stimilates. It also stimilates the brain as well.
- 16:23Speaker 1: We're good. Well, tell us about the prey coming up
- 16:25Speaker 1: if you contacted me. You know, it's just it's a
- 16:28Speaker 1: big anniverse. Your time. You always have a great thing
- 16:30Speaker 1: tied to it. We talked about MLK Parade in Houston,
- 16:33Speaker 1: Texas is to be this Monday, correct, that is correct, sir, Monday,
- 16:38Speaker 1: January one, at ten am in Houston's Midtown. We're celebrating
- 16:43Speaker 1: our anniversary this year and we want to do something special.
- 16:49Speaker 1: So UM, I'm not sure if this permitted to say this,
- 16:54Speaker 1: but Royson has been my mentor for years and listening
- 16:59Speaker 1: to him, we decided to effect a fifty state marketing strategy.
- 17:06Speaker 1: It has it has paid dividends. We have representation from
- 17:12Speaker 1: thirty four states, three US territories, and four foreign countries
- 17:19Speaker 1: this year. Uh. We started off by wanting one marching
- 17:26Speaker 1: band for every year of existence, and that has double
- 17:31Speaker 1: to fifty marching bands from all over the country. Uh.
- 17:37Speaker 1: There are about thirty thousand participants in the parade and
- 17:43Speaker 1: whether they're providing, we're expecting any excess of three hundred
- 17:48Speaker 1: thousand spectators this year, bring my camera phone that. It's
- 17:55Speaker 1: such a fun experience to be a part. I've been
- 17:58Speaker 1: fortunate to be named under the Grand Marshals in the
- 18:01Speaker 1: past parade. And it's first of all, the people who
- 18:04Speaker 1: are sitting on the streets watching the parade with their family,
- 18:08Speaker 1: some standing, they really get it. It's really a good
- 18:11Speaker 1: experience for them in Houston, Texas doing that, doing that Monday,
- 18:14Speaker 1: when you do the MLK Parade, correct, that is correct?
- 18:19Speaker 1: You know, That's why I do it. Uh It's an experience,
- 18:25Speaker 1: as you already know, it's a feeling that it's hard
- 18:29Speaker 1: to duplicate. What you're seeing is actually the face of humanity.
- 18:35Speaker 1: It's what humanity it looks like. And it's a very
- 18:38Speaker 1: humbling experience. And one of the keys of success is
- 18:43Speaker 1: that once you experience that like you did, it's hard
- 18:45Speaker 1: to stay It's hard to stay away. They keep coming
- 18:49Speaker 1: back and bringing others and bringing others. And this year,
- 18:53Speaker 1: uh it we have set records across the board from
- 18:59Speaker 1: a perspective or participation, to spectatorship, to coverage, UM and
- 19:05Speaker 1: any as they coming together of everybody. Rason for your
- 19:09Speaker 1: listening audience and for the nation, you are much much
- 19:14Speaker 1: to modest, and I just want to share with you. Uh.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I hated your guts initially because you kept pushing me
- 19:24Speaker 1: to do things that I didn't think I was capable
- 19:27Speaker 1: of doing. So two years ago I said, okay, I'm
- 19:31Speaker 1: going to show us on something. He's talking about the
- 19:33Speaker 1: fifth state marketing strategy. And you know what we did,
- 19:36Speaker 1: and we figured out a way to do it. We
- 19:38Speaker 1: have thirty we're in thirty media markets right now. We
- 19:43Speaker 1: call a marketing hubs. Example, if we want to pick
- 19:46Speaker 1: up four states, we would advertise on Streetport losing and
- 19:49Speaker 1: pick up Mississippi, Arkansas losing in Texas. This is what
- 19:53Speaker 1: you made me do. I didn't think that I had
- 19:56Speaker 1: it any but sir, you're indeed a prodigy of dr King.
- 20:00Speaker 1: This is exactly a division that he had. And I
- 20:03Speaker 1: no longer think that I'm an artinary person. I think
- 20:05Speaker 1: I'm right Russian McDonald. I think I can do anything.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I appreciate that comment, you know, And so you know
- 20:12Speaker 1: the thing about it is that I just try to
- 20:14Speaker 1: push people to their greatness, and I challenged them, and
- 20:17Speaker 1: every day people tell me things that I just consider
- 20:20Speaker 1: normal to me when I encourage you to take those
- 20:23Speaker 1: gifts to the next level. I just consider normal. I
- 20:26Speaker 1: consider normal that you should be blessed. I consider normal
- 20:29Speaker 1: that you should have things that I don't have. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: consider normal that you should live a better lifestyle than
- 20:33Speaker 1: your parents. I consider normal that you to live the
- 20:36Speaker 1: dreams that you feel that you are capable of living.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And that's all I try to do every day. And
- 20:42Speaker 1: if that's part of the legacy that Dr mar and
- 20:44Speaker 1: Luther King wanted to create for everybody, then I've been
- 20:46Speaker 1: living it since I was eighteen years old. That is
- 20:50Speaker 1: just like I said, sir, thank you and thank you
- 20:52Speaker 1: for the bottom of my heart. And next week and
- 20:56Speaker 1: so I see you Saturday the night my friend okay,
- 21:00Speaker 1: already I want to thank him again. Uh this Saturday,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I will be in uh Houston, Texas uh On. On Monday,
- 21:07Speaker 1: I'll be on the parade leading it and h Grant
- 21:10Speaker 1: standing and eating some snacks. My next guest on the phone,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'm telling I met her through social media, because everybody knows.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I have a baker spotlight. Every Tuesday, I highlight guests
- 21:21Speaker 1: who are great bakers around the country. Tuesday and Friday.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Go to my social media. It makes you hungry. I get,
- 21:27Speaker 1: I post everything, and then one day, you know, she
- 21:29Speaker 1: one of my favorite bakers. You know, then one day
- 21:31Speaker 1: she said, ray Shine, I can't send any more pictures
- 21:34Speaker 1: to you no more. Why miss Garland, why can't you
- 21:37Speaker 1: send me pictures? Because I'm writing a book and I
- 21:39Speaker 1: want all my stuff to be I wanted to be
- 21:42Speaker 1: fresh from my book. That's a girl. When you get
- 21:45Speaker 1: your book, please send me your book so I can
- 21:47Speaker 1: help you promote your book with my book, it's called
- 21:51Speaker 1: Mama's Banana Pudding, which is a compilation of recipes that
- 21:54Speaker 1: were given to her by her mother. Please welcome to
- 21:58Speaker 1: money Man Conversations The Tora Garland. Good morning, Good morning.
- 22:04Speaker 1: How you doing this, Garland? I'm doing fine. How about you?
- 22:08Speaker 1: I'm doing really good. Thank you for coming on the show.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Thank you for being a fantastic baker that you are.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Tell us about this book. I've read the book. I'm
- 22:15Speaker 1: gonna point out some things I like about this book.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And I like a lot of things because everybody knows
- 22:19Speaker 1: I'm a dessert nut. So but you helped me out
- 22:22Speaker 1: on a buy three recipes. But let's tell me about
- 22:25Speaker 1: the book. Okay, okay, First of all, I just want
- 22:28Speaker 1: to thank you for having me on your show. I
- 22:30Speaker 1: feel really blessed and on it to be on the show. Um.
- 22:34Speaker 1: This book, um was I thought of because of the
- 22:38Speaker 1: recipes that were given to me by my mother, which
- 22:41Speaker 1: took her forever in everything, and once I got in
- 22:45Speaker 1: my head to figure out measurements because you know, they
- 22:47Speaker 1: never give me a measure So the thing was feaving
- 22:50Speaker 1: out measurements and I don't even know what they used
- 22:53Speaker 1: because she never gave me any management. So I just
- 22:56Speaker 1: started asking her for a lot of recipes, like, hey,
- 22:58Speaker 1: you know, I remember graham One used to make that
- 23:00Speaker 1: pound cake? How does she make that pound cake? What's
- 23:03Speaker 1: this great grandma used to make? So I just decided
- 23:05Speaker 1: to put a mill in a book. I wanted to
- 23:07Speaker 1: give up my kids something to pass on to their
- 23:10Speaker 1: children and hopefully for many generations to come. Well, I'm
- 23:15Speaker 1: telling something. It's so funny that she talks like that.
- 23:18Speaker 1: But older people who bake, you know if you because
- 23:22Speaker 1: you never noticed that when you're a kid, you know,
- 23:24Speaker 1: are you? Are you? All you see is the results
- 23:26Speaker 1: of that of that baking or cooking moment. But when
- 23:29Speaker 1: you go ask your grandmother or even your mother, depending
- 23:33Speaker 1: on how old she is, how she made that. She
- 23:36Speaker 1: gonna actually be frustrated. You're gonna frustrated because she don't
- 23:39Speaker 1: have time to be telling you whether that was a
- 23:41Speaker 1: cup or a quarter teaspoon. Uh, because they just grab stuff.
- 23:46Speaker 1: My mama, she just she just just grabbed some some
- 23:49Speaker 1: some some flower, put it in there, shifted real good,
- 23:53Speaker 1: and next thing you know, I'm looking at the pound
- 23:55Speaker 1: cake or a German chocolate cake or sweet potato pie.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Banana putting become pie, oh or seven up cake. I'm
- 24:03Speaker 1: calling that recipes. And she got in this bad book
- 24:06Speaker 1: called Mama's Banana Putting. I'm telling I read this book,
- 24:10Speaker 1: young lady. I'm telling here's a deal. You know I
- 24:12Speaker 1: can I can tell everybody. I can bait now when
- 24:14Speaker 1: when you go through a book and you see stuff
- 24:17Speaker 1: that you didn't do when you were baking, like old
- 24:20Speaker 1: fashioned bread putting. Now, I never had the vanilla rum sauce. Okay, okay,
- 24:28Speaker 1: you gave that to me now for literally with a
- 24:31Speaker 1: little heavy cream cup with sugar, unsalted butter, vanilla extract
- 24:36Speaker 1: and roma. I got all that in the cabinet right now,
- 24:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you, miss Garland, I left because you know,
- 24:42Speaker 1: you know, I used the regular white bread. I left
- 24:45Speaker 1: seven white breads in paper tiers so they're canna be
- 24:48Speaker 1: stale so I can break them up so the mar
- 24:51Speaker 1: so I get home tonight to be stales. So I'm
- 24:54Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna bake this tonight and then in the morning,
- 24:57Speaker 1: i'm gonna I'm gonna make this vanilla rum sauce and
- 24:59Speaker 1: Donna brea into my staff so they can taste it. Okay,
- 25:04Speaker 1: cal A, you're doing it. And then and so so
- 25:06Speaker 1: when you give these little tidbits like this, and also
- 25:09Speaker 1: I love the fact that my pacorm pies are good,
- 25:12Speaker 1: but I never never this half a cup, this becorm
- 25:15Speaker 1: pie topping though. You yeah, come on now, and you're
- 25:20Speaker 1: scaring me. You're scaring me because I was wondering how
- 25:22Speaker 1: people got their bacorm pies and looks so pretty. Minds,
- 25:26Speaker 1: everybody loves them, but they don't look pretty. Now I
- 25:29Speaker 1: know what this bacom pie topping. How my bacorm pie
- 25:32Speaker 1: gonna look pretty? Sure, that's exactly what I was going after,
- 25:37Speaker 1: just trying to make look pretty. And then but you
- 25:40Speaker 1: know what, tastes good now because she got the classics
- 25:42Speaker 1: in here, sweeper, tato pie, peach cobbler, all that good stuff,
- 25:49Speaker 1: that thanks Giving stuff, that Christmas stuff, that Easter food,
- 25:53Speaker 1: that Fourth for July food, that Memorial Day food, that
- 25:58Speaker 1: Labor Day food. She got an in the book here
- 26:01Speaker 1: Mama's banana putt. Now, how do you buy this book?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Come on that miss call it god Tevin now because
- 26:05Speaker 1: I'm selling you big here on the show. Now, thank you,
- 26:08Speaker 1: thank you so much. I really appreciate it. You can

- 26:24Speaker 1: that website? What do you do on that website? Um,
- 26:28Speaker 1: it's the purpose. It's my business, which is the catering
- 26:31Speaker 1: business that I started here in Texas. I had to
- 26:33Speaker 1: figure out a way to get some extra money because
- 26:36Speaker 1: we moved to a city in the state where we
- 26:38Speaker 1: had no family, so we really didn't have any support
- 26:41Speaker 1: from anyone. I just want to thank you for allowing
- 26:44Speaker 1: me to promote your brand. I look for coming on
- 26:47Speaker 1: my show. This is much of benefit to me as

- 26:55Speaker 1: You did? You did? Because I'm just a little girl
- 26:58Speaker 1: and from Mississippi living in Texas right now, and I
- 27:02Speaker 1: don't I don't know how I started follow you, but
- 27:04Speaker 1: I started following you, and I started submitting them recipes
- 27:07Speaker 1: and I was like when I submitted them, I was like,
- 27:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna win. And I was like, hey, let me
- 27:13Speaker 1: do it again. So after the third time, I was like, okay,
- 27:16Speaker 1: let me just stop. Oh my friend, you keep winning.

- 29:38Speaker 1: Here we come. Welcome to money making Conversation. That's right.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I am your host, ras Sean McDonald. For the last
- 29:44Speaker 1: ten years, this is my guess that's on the line
- 29:46Speaker 1: right now. For the last ten years, my next guest
- 29:49Speaker 1: has been very popular on the Food Network and the
- 29:52Speaker 1: Cooking Channel, two channels I watch a lot. I watched
- 29:56Speaker 1: him because a lot of people can't cook. That's why
- 29:59Speaker 1: why why chet? And a lot of things they cook
- 30:02Speaker 1: I try so it benefits me both ways. It entertains
- 30:06Speaker 1: me and it also fills my belly. He has his
- 30:09Speaker 1: own signature line of cooking sauces and spices that are
- 30:12Speaker 1: solding hundreds of stores Norway stores worldwide and can be
- 30:16Speaker 1: found in my home refrigerator and capinet. Just let you
- 30:19Speaker 1: know a seasoned with this brother on the regular basis,
- 30:22Speaker 1: and you can get him by going to www dot
- 30:26Speaker 1: chef Jannard dot com. There's www dot chef Jarnard dot com.
- 30:31Speaker 1: He's on the show to talk about miny things, but
- 30:34Speaker 1: more importantly his own cooking show that will air in
- 30:36Speaker 1: the first quarter of twent and eighteen. I called him
- 30:39Speaker 1: the family Chef because he got nine kids. We got
- 30:42Speaker 1: nine kids, you called family family chef. Please welcome to
- 30:45Speaker 1: money Making Conversation, Chef Jernard Wells. Thank you. You know
- 30:52Speaker 1: it's always about just listen to you talk. Jeff. I
- 30:56Speaker 1: got a lot of stuff to say about you. You
- 30:57Speaker 1: know what I'm saying again, I'll tell you about my relationship.
- 31:02Speaker 1: When he called on me, I participate in one of
- 31:04Speaker 1: his charity benefits. Drove down to uh that was making
- 31:08Speaker 1: George uh and mates. Maybe one of my desserts down
- 31:12Speaker 1: there and people couldn't believe how tasty their words. A
- 31:14Speaker 1: long line of people are way O man, had a blast,
- 31:20Speaker 1: had a blast, and just seeing just seeing your creativity, Uh,
- 31:24Speaker 1: just come to light on stage and it's there's no
- 31:27Speaker 1: wonder people you know while they gravitate to towards you,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and you know, it was just truly a blessing and
- 31:33Speaker 1: honor to have you to come down and engrace the
- 31:36Speaker 1: stage and hear it with us and just cut up
- 31:37Speaker 1: and have some fun and cut some great food. Now
- 31:40Speaker 1: you go, that's the key, because people, you know, people
- 31:42Speaker 1: like you. It's different like if you're an athlete, you know,
- 31:45Speaker 1: nobody expects you just running fort of your dash. You know,
- 31:48Speaker 1: nobody expects you just dunk and you're in the restaurant,
- 31:50Speaker 1: you know, but when you're cooked, now they look at
- 31:53Speaker 1: you different. When you walk through, they go, did you
- 31:55Speaker 1: bring anything with you? Anything I can sample? Yeah, got
- 32:00Speaker 1: in the recipe. So you don't never ask some quarterback
- 32:02Speaker 1: for a play. You gotta play I can use. But
- 32:07Speaker 1: when you're a cook, all bakup. They want to know
- 32:10Speaker 1: some extra stuff like how did your season, what you
- 32:13Speaker 1: put on the barbecue exactly, how did you make that case?
- 32:17Speaker 1: So that cake taste so good, puts your season in
- 32:20Speaker 1: the meat with That's the question you get on a
- 32:23Speaker 1: regular basis, Yef, don't you all the time? You know,
- 32:26Speaker 1: I can't. I can't go to a function. I can't
- 32:29Speaker 1: go to an event that doesn't even pertain to food.
- 32:33Speaker 1: And someone is always coming up to me asking me
- 32:36Speaker 1: about something dealing with some kind of food, some kind
- 32:39Speaker 1: of advice, whether or not is it something that I
- 32:41Speaker 1: know how to cook or show them how to cook,
- 32:44Speaker 1: or had I tried something before? But it's it's it's
- 32:47Speaker 1: a non stuff. It's one of those things being in
- 32:49Speaker 1: the culinary industry when you embedded any you can't turn
- 32:52Speaker 1: it off. It's it's almost like it's a it's an
- 32:55Speaker 1: ongoing twinter for our thing. But but one of the
- 32:58Speaker 1: things that I truly I love it. I to say
- 33:00Speaker 1: love what I do and I love sharing it with people.
- 33:03Speaker 1: And I think that's one of the biggest things with
- 33:05Speaker 1: a lot of us that are in culinary culinary art.
- 33:09Speaker 1: We do it and we create the art just for
- 33:13Speaker 1: the sake of others loving what we do. And that's
- 33:16Speaker 1: how I love talking to see he's a professional. I
- 33:19Speaker 1: am just a guy that just goes in the kitchen
- 33:22Speaker 1: and just I make a lot of mistakes, but don't
- 33:24Speaker 1: nobody know about me. That's when you when you cook,
- 33:29Speaker 1: you can make a mistake and fix. When you're baking
- 33:31Speaker 1: though mistake, you make a mistake shop coming out there.
- 33:35Speaker 1: That's chemistry. See, there's a difference in a lot of
- 33:38Speaker 1: people don't realize there's a big difference in cooking and baking.
- 33:42Speaker 1: That's why you have a lot of a lot of
- 33:44Speaker 1: chefs of go a culinary art school. They choose wisely
- 33:47Speaker 1: on which field they want to go into because of
- 33:50Speaker 1: the simple fact bacon is a is a technology and
- 33:53Speaker 1: the chemistry within itself. You add the wrong amount of
- 33:56Speaker 1: baking soldier or powders or something, you get a completly
- 34:00Speaker 1: different effects. You add the wrong color at the wrong season.
- 34:03Speaker 1: All of these things show up in bacon versus cooking.
- 34:07Speaker 1: It can be masked a little more. You massed around
- 34:09Speaker 1: and you put the wrong thing in the cake. Now
- 34:11Speaker 1: you got a lump side of the cake and it
- 34:13Speaker 1: guess what I'm gonna tell yourself. A good friend of mine,
- 34:15Speaker 1: one of the clients are Reva Martin. She's a CNN
- 34:18Speaker 1: analysts really challenged the young lady also on the show
- 34:22Speaker 1: with Vivica Fox. She's one of the analysts on her show,
- 34:25Speaker 1: and she sent me a recipe. She texted me her
- 34:28Speaker 1: corn bread recipe. She's a Rashawn. This is a killer
- 34:31Speaker 1: corn bread recipe. Well, you know, Rashaan just can't do
- 34:34Speaker 1: what they said. Now, I just can't do what they're said.
- 34:37Speaker 1: So I added some sugar because I like a little
- 34:39Speaker 1: sugar in my corn break. Okay, her recipe didn't have
- 34:43Speaker 1: sugar nowhere in it, but I added a little cobra
- 34:46Speaker 1: kept that four hundred degrees, and that bad boy came
- 34:50Speaker 1: out lump side it because I added sugar. I messed
- 34:54Speaker 1: a b When you started adding stuff to a recipe
- 34:58Speaker 1: that works, you gotta make heat differences, baking differences. But
- 35:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna ride it out. It's a foreign degree. I
- 35:05Speaker 1: wrote it out forarg to degree. So so you know,
- 35:07Speaker 1: the inner section of the cake or the other corporet
- 35:11Speaker 1: was not fully cooked. So I just I just cut
- 35:14Speaker 1: that little inner part out and keep a road. And
- 35:19Speaker 1: nobody knew about it. And now, oh, I just took
- 35:25Speaker 1: that middle apart out, went all bout my business, brother,
- 35:27Speaker 1: but about my business. But that's what I just say
- 35:30Speaker 1: that that is just give you an example of what
- 35:32Speaker 1: you were saying. If you change something, you alter something,
- 35:35Speaker 1: you overmash, you something when you're baking, it's gonna come
- 35:39Speaker 1: out when you pull ou out of the oven or
- 35:40Speaker 1: before you pull it out of that because you may
- 35:43Speaker 1: have to pull out out of that open early because
- 35:45Speaker 1: it's just not gonna work. That's true. That's true. And
- 35:48Speaker 1: you know, in baking, a lot of things outside of
- 35:50Speaker 1: this ingredients, time, temperature. You know, the people that for instance,
- 35:55Speaker 1: in Denver, Colorado, they cook they're cooking different, you know,
- 35:59Speaker 1: up in the and the mountains, they're they're baking different
- 36:02Speaker 1: because of the temperature range, just the humidity and the
- 36:05Speaker 1: atmosphere where they are. All that plays a factor. And
- 36:09Speaker 1: baking is so many things. And you know, and that's
- 36:11Speaker 1: why my my hat is off to you always, you know,
- 36:15Speaker 1: because I honestly I've I've had the under trying some
- 36:18Speaker 1: of your food and watching and seeing senending some of
- 36:21Speaker 1: the videos that you could that you that you create,
- 36:24Speaker 1: and I think that you do a very good job.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Especially one of the biggest things is even how you
- 36:31Speaker 1: master the art of no bake recipes For the simple
- 36:35Speaker 1: fact a lot of people gravitate towards those because it
- 36:40Speaker 1: takes a lot of the as we say, the nonsense
- 36:44Speaker 1: of having to try to feel your way through it.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Because the no bake it gets you in and get
- 36:50Speaker 1: you out fast. And guess what, you get that same
- 36:53Speaker 1: quality dish out of it. Hey, you gotta love that.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Especially at the same time by providing the no bag
- 37:01Speaker 1: option gets what ain't gotta have ain't gotta have to
- 37:04Speaker 1: kitchen four hundred degrees Lord in the summertime, that pays
- 37:08Speaker 1: a big price and a lot of time. Happy win
- 37:10Speaker 1: to time you happy. You love that extra heat. Now,
- 37:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you about my man chef. You know,
- 37:16Speaker 1: he's on my social media every Saturday he posted a
- 37:19Speaker 1: recipe a video. Um, He's been doing it over over

- 37:32Speaker 1: finally taking him to the next level. Something I've been
- 37:35Speaker 1: weighing on, something I've been trying to do with him. Well,

- 37:40Speaker 1: Now what network is that on? New c Kitchen is
- 37:44Speaker 1: Cleo TV? The new network that TV one lunched in
- 37:47Speaker 1: conjunction with Comcast NBC. So Cleo TV now is that
- 37:54Speaker 1: is that is there a channel yet or you just
- 37:56Speaker 1: know yet because it didn't give your official debate day.
- 37:58Speaker 1: The debut day. The debut date UM set right now
- 38:03Speaker 1: for Cleo TV as a whole is January the nineteen.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Um is when the new channel we were appear on

- 38:17Speaker 1: the actual day my show are on, we don't know yet.
- 38:21Speaker 1: We just we just know that it's gonna be in

- 43:15Speaker 1: let's introduce to get this young lady rolling because I'm excited.
- 43:18Speaker 1: She has a big event in Atlanta at the at
- 43:20Speaker 1: the Windom GALLERYEA on the eighteenth and nineteenth of this
- 43:23Speaker 1: weekend's a. I called it a change your life, Absolutely
- 43:26Speaker 1: change your life. My next guest has been an entrepreneur
- 43:28Speaker 1: since the age of nineteen. She understood she had eighteen.
- 43:32Speaker 1: I was, I was, I was, I had to clear
- 43:36Speaker 1: understand I need to support people, but I don't understand
- 43:38Speaker 1: what I wanted to do. And n eighteen you figured
- 43:40Speaker 1: it out and I'm so I'm so honored to be
- 43:43Speaker 1: a part of that process. She has an amazing coaching academy.
- 43:47Speaker 1: It's the world's number one leading resource for life coaches.
- 43:50Speaker 1: They provide resources from education to implementation and foster mutually
- 43:54Speaker 1: beneficial relationships to grow your bottom line. That's the key
- 43:57Speaker 1: bottom line. They strongly urged their students to embrace the
- 44:01Speaker 1: profit from your purpose mentality. Please work on the money
- 44:05Speaker 1: making conversation Serrita Pittman, Hello, Hello, thank you, Happy New Year,
- 44:10Speaker 1: New Year. So did you just come into town today?
- 44:15Speaker 1: When when did you arrive in the Atlanta, Georgia yesterday? Special,
- 44:19Speaker 1: I came yesterday just to be here to see I
- 44:21Speaker 1: always like to hear that, you know, because everybody gotta ego,
- 44:24Speaker 1: you know, everybody got everybody's driven to think that they
- 44:27Speaker 1: affect people positively. And whenever I get a return guest
- 44:30Speaker 1: and you're back to back live studio, so I really
- 44:34Speaker 1: feel important, back to back live studio. So so you
- 44:37Speaker 1: got a little box, tay. Guys, this is we're launching
- 44:40Speaker 1: this at Success without Walls and my Success without Walls
- 44:45Speaker 1: is an event for people that are entrepreneurs, business owners,
- 44:48Speaker 1: service providers, anyone that's serious about next leveling their success
- 44:52Speaker 1: and really want to overcome whatever obstacles they're facing because
- 44:56Speaker 1: in business we don't as coaches and a lot of
- 44:58Speaker 1: people that have made it on the other side, we realistic.
- 45:00Speaker 1: We give people these smoking mirrors success stories, and they
- 45:04Speaker 1: don't understand that the struggle happens, that failure happens. So
- 45:07Speaker 1: we do that we set up an environment that helps
- 45:10Speaker 1: you overcome pit falls of business so you can accelerate
- 45:12Speaker 1: your success, and that that's really important because I always
- 45:15Speaker 1: tell people, even my daughter, I always tell about the
- 45:18Speaker 1: fact that Dad's not perfect, because that all they see
- 45:20Speaker 1: success and that can put undue pressure. And a lot
- 45:23Speaker 1: of people understand that that leads to a lot of stress.
- 45:25Speaker 1: And young kids they have successful parents are parents who's successful,
- 45:29Speaker 1: are parents who makes it look easy, whether athletically or
- 45:32Speaker 1: academically or financially in the business world. So always on
- 45:36Speaker 1: this show, try to let people know that you can
- 45:39Speaker 1: fail and they fail, you can get up, but also
- 45:43Speaker 1: share your failure, share your failure because in the business,
- 45:47Speaker 1: when I was managing uh Steve Harvey, I used to
- 45:50Speaker 1: always tell Steve, I'm not worried about what someone else makes,
- 45:53Speaker 1: all on the word about the deal that we can close,
- 45:56Speaker 1: because a lot of people they lie about deals. They
- 46:00Speaker 1: you be checking over that weight do on a deal
- 46:01Speaker 1: is really good, but you you heard her, somebody got
- 46:05Speaker 1: twice as much and you missed out your opportunity. Right,
- 46:08Speaker 1: So I ride with what I do, I ride with
- 46:10Speaker 1: what I know, and and eventually we're all gonna be happy.
- 46:13Speaker 1: But so I always tell people, deal with the facts.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Don't don't worry about what people say, and be and
- 46:18Speaker 1: trust your natural instincts, and that's what you have. You're
- 46:20Speaker 1: a natural instinct person. I am. I learned that the
- 46:23Speaker 1: hard way. I remember I opened up a salon in Spa,
- 46:26Speaker 1: combined it and it was my biggest financial investment in business.
- 46:29Speaker 1: And there was another salon in spat in the same
- 46:32Speaker 1: town and everybody knew their name. And I was just
- 46:35Speaker 1: and my husband was like, quit paying attention to what's
- 46:37Speaker 1: gonna You don't know what's going on. That business went
- 46:40Speaker 1: bankrupt and was all over the news and shut down.
- 46:43Speaker 1: They were getting sued from people left and right. Myhuther
- 46:46Speaker 1: seen you want to be like them. But I was like,
- 46:48Speaker 1: you don't have to worry about that again, because I
- 46:50Speaker 1: didn't know. And I found myself even though I was
- 46:53Speaker 1: extremely successful and and my confidence was up. That showed
- 46:56Speaker 1: me some level of insecurity because you don't know what's
- 46:59Speaker 1: gonna onto someone's financial statements and all of that stuff,
- 47:03Speaker 1: and it's important. Let's let's recap what we just said.
- 47:06Speaker 1: We're just saying that that, first of all, don't worry
- 47:08Speaker 1: about what someone else is doing. Absolutely, they're not your competition.
- 47:12Speaker 1: You're your natural competition is how much effort you put
- 47:15Speaker 1: into your dream and your business and to your goals.
- 47:18Speaker 1: That's gonna achieve the natural success because while you over
- 47:21Speaker 1: there focus on what somebody else is doing. Believe me,
- 47:24Speaker 1: you know it's something that is failing at your platform. Absolutely,
- 47:28Speaker 1: And that's all your husband was just telling you. That's
- 47:29Speaker 1: what he was telling me. But I mean, like he
- 47:31Speaker 1: you ever heard something I told you, so don't say
- 47:34Speaker 1: that he was waiting for that, Like he said, it's
- 47:37Speaker 1: alarm clock that wanted to get up. I'm gonna play
- 47:40Speaker 1: because because you kept bringing that story back to it
- 47:41Speaker 1: and I wouldn't. I would do it every now and
- 47:43Speaker 1: then drop a little. He was like, okay, She's like,
- 47:45Speaker 1: you don't want to listen. I said, yes, I do
- 47:47Speaker 1: want to listen. It's like okay. But it was like
- 47:49Speaker 1: a year later and he was like, you know, I
- 47:52Speaker 1: always tell people when when I when I invite this
- 47:55Speaker 1: individual the show, because everybody doesn't get on my show.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I'm just I'm fortunate and hopefully stage that way, and
- 48:01Speaker 1: I try to bring individuals on that I feel have
- 48:03Speaker 1: a voice that can benefit a lot of people, because
- 48:07Speaker 1: some people just have a small voice. They have a big,
- 48:10Speaker 1: big opportunity, but a small voice, and so tell us
- 48:13Speaker 1: about your your your event is happening this I decided
- 48:17Speaker 1: that's why I invited you back, because I wanted to
- 48:19Speaker 1: make sure we get the word out the week of
- 48:22Speaker 1: and make sure that as many people know about it.
- 48:24Speaker 1: If they can't make this event their future things driving
- 48:27Speaker 1: your social media absolutely well success with our walls, it's
- 48:30Speaker 1: specifically designed in a way that we hit every component
- 48:33Speaker 1: of who you are. I'm a holistic health care practictioner
- 48:36Speaker 1: by trade. You know there are three components to every business.
- 48:40Speaker 1: I believe in the trinity. So that's just my belief.
- 48:43Speaker 1: But I tell people to tackle business that way. What
- 48:46Speaker 1: about your process is? What about your procedures and what
- 48:48Speaker 1: about your profit? Um, we don't always hit those. We
- 48:51Speaker 1: look at our profit and we always want to drive
- 48:53Speaker 1: our money up. But those processes will keep you with
- 48:56Speaker 1: having repeat customers with his retention. UM, the procedures and
- 49:00Speaker 1: the calls. If you have a problem in your business
- 49:02Speaker 1: that's constantly irritating you, create a protocol, create a procedure,
- 49:06Speaker 1: eliminate that process from your business model. Because you create
- 49:09Speaker 1: the culture for your business. And oftentimes we had bite
- 49:12Speaker 1: off what you're doing. We get inspired by you, but
- 49:14Speaker 1: that culture, I'm not you. So trying to have my
- 49:17Speaker 1: business model that works for you, that try to work
- 49:19Speaker 1: for me, it calls me to fail. So we really
- 49:22Speaker 1: help you formulate and create a business model that you
- 49:24Speaker 1: can have that is sustainable, that is scalable and sellable.
- 49:27Speaker 1: So we hit every component from learning how to incorporate
- 49:30Speaker 1: having interns in your business and keeping your overhead down
- 49:33Speaker 1: and just really helping your streamline your processes and get
- 49:36Speaker 1: over all of the sensationalism that's in the marketplace. You know,
- 49:39Speaker 1: you can have followers, but are you profitable? People know
- 49:42Speaker 1: your name off of Instagram? What about your what about
- 49:45Speaker 1: your process to make sure that they come back to
- 49:47Speaker 1: you and they like you, but then they convert in
- 49:49Speaker 1: a sale. That's Those are kind of things we talk
- 49:51Speaker 1: about and that's a big and that's a big process.
- 49:54Speaker 1: So what can you break down the step by step
- 49:56Speaker 1: experience that that comes with your events success with our
- 49:59Speaker 1: walls on a Friday dinners, it's a Friday Savva. Yes,
- 50:02Speaker 1: that Friday event is high energy, it's high impact. So
- 50:05Speaker 1: if you come and bring it, do you play in
- 50:07Speaker 1: it or you the producer? You hold everything. Okay, that's
- 50:12Speaker 1: not a word put it in. But no, no, but
- 50:17Speaker 1: I'm there to oversee everything. No no, no, that you
- 50:20Speaker 1: might see that watch this next year. You don't think something?
- 50:22Speaker 1: If you do, If you do, I'm a but um.
- 50:28Speaker 1: But now the first Friday, the Friday we kick off
- 50:31Speaker 1: with speed coaching and networking. What is that? Speed coaching
- 50:35Speaker 1: is rapid, rapid fire learning. So a lot of times
- 50:38Speaker 1: we say we have to have this perfect environment to learn.
- 50:41Speaker 1: We put you in environments that you don't know what's
- 50:43Speaker 1: going to happen next, but you need to be able
- 50:44Speaker 1: to retain something from that. Because if you have a
- 50:47Speaker 1: conversation from with someone that you overhear a conversation, you
- 50:50Speaker 1: can still put that in your memory, brank and learn
- 50:52Speaker 1: how to do it. So we show you how to
- 50:53Speaker 1: do real time learning, keep it going real fast. We
- 50:56Speaker 1: have power networking, so when you walk away, you walk
- 50:58Speaker 1: away with more than a number in the busines card.
