- 2:15Speaker 1: That's why I got on the show. I didn't even
- 2:17Speaker 1: know that. The World Games is an international sports event
- 2:20Speaker 1: held every four years in the same year following each
- 2:23Speaker 1: Summer Olympic Games stage over eleven days. The game represents
- 2:26Speaker 1: the pinnacle of competition for thirty or six hundred of
- 2:29Speaker 1: the world's best athletes in thirty different unique sports. The
- 2:32Speaker 1: World grads World Games generates worldwide exposure. But also we're
- 2:35Speaker 1: here talking about the world are exposed to, Pastor Mack
- 2:38Speaker 1: generate down there in Birmingham. See people, everybody try to
- 2:41Speaker 1: push you your big city. Gotta go to l A,
- 2:43Speaker 1: gott to go to New York, I gotta go to Chicago.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Now everybody tends to go to Atlanta. He two hours
- 2:48Speaker 1: down the road from Atlanta and turning it up. Come on,
- 2:52Speaker 1: he's got not building his dream. And that's what this
- 2:55Speaker 1: show is about. Building your dream. Please work with the
- 2:58Speaker 1: money making conversation, Pastor Mike clud Junior, big bro. I
- 3:02Speaker 1: am so excited to be here, and I know I
- 3:04Speaker 1: love how you said that everybody always tries to push
- 3:07Speaker 1: you to Atlanta to l A to Nashville. I'm a
- 3:11Speaker 1: firm believer that you should bloom where your planet. And
- 3:14Speaker 1: we're winning right here from Birmingham, Alabama. So I'm excited
- 3:17Speaker 1: to be here and hopefully I get my pitch on
- 3:19Speaker 1: that wall. Really see. First of all, we got a
- 3:22Speaker 1: long interview because we gonna laugh about some stuff. Because
- 3:24Speaker 1: I want to point some things out to some people
- 3:26Speaker 1: about that. You know, if you don't have a talent
- 3:29Speaker 1: or a gift, I don't care where you move, Nobody's
- 3:31Speaker 1: gonna recognize it or appreciate that. I remember when I
- 3:34Speaker 1: when I did stand up comment I'm based out of Houston, Texas.
- 3:37Speaker 1: That's from born in raised, Houston, Texas. I moved to
- 3:39Speaker 1: New York and then I moved to l A. I does,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I was doing television everything. Then all this when I
- 3:44Speaker 1: was in the l A pastor Mike, I decided, you
- 3:46Speaker 1: know something, I'm gonna go back to Houston and I'm
- 3:48Speaker 1: gonna become the biggest star I could be. And I
- 3:53Speaker 1: did over the comment club just blew up and guess
- 3:56Speaker 1: what I got, uh, I got cast and Jason's lyrics,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and then I got broke back by Steve Harvey to
- 4:03Speaker 1: write on his first sitcom, ABC is Me and the Board.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So by moving back to Houston, what people said I
- 4:09Speaker 1: would not become a star, I went there became a
- 4:12Speaker 1: star and guess what, people moved came and got me.
- 4:16Speaker 1: They got me for they saw my talent. So sometimes
- 4:19Speaker 1: understanding what you're trying to do in life and that
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know necessarily have to move to a chief success.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But you have to have to have a plan. And
- 4:26Speaker 1: that's what's why you're successful in Birmingham because you have
- 4:29Speaker 1: a plan. Pastor Mike, let's talk about that absolutely, man.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I believe planning is absolutely critical. You know, um, what's
- 4:36Speaker 1: so incredible even when you look biblically, God says, uh,
- 4:39Speaker 1: let there be light, and there was. Let there be
- 4:41Speaker 1: flying things and there was. Before he put a steward
- 4:43Speaker 1: in place, he had a plan. He says, I cannot
- 4:46Speaker 1: put man in place if he has no assignment. And
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm with you, man. So many people were telling me, man,
- 4:51Speaker 1: you need to go that lant, he need to go
- 4:52Speaker 1: to l A. I had a plan. I had a strategy,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and I believe first things you have to understand is
- 4:58Speaker 1: what is your unique a sign? Because what this is
- 5:00Speaker 1: what I discovered I don't want to go to church.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But favor isn't always geographical. Just because you're special in Birmingham.
- 5:07Speaker 1: If I go to Atlanta, there are a million pastor
- 5:10Speaker 1: Mike Jullius. So you have to win where you are man.
- 5:12Speaker 1: So I'm excited about that, and I really believe that
- 5:15Speaker 1: the best is yet to come. When I was talking
- 5:17Speaker 1: to my board, to Todd Delaney, I call him, I
- 5:19Speaker 1: call him to church out law because I tell him
- 5:25Speaker 1: this be himself, you know, because so many people try
- 5:27Speaker 1: to give a definition of what the Bible is, what churches?
- 5:32Speaker 1: Why are you supposed to go to church? Churches where
- 5:34Speaker 1: your belief if your beliefs or one hundred, it's where
- 5:39Speaker 1: you want, where you want to worship. Church plays an
- 5:42Speaker 1: important role in that, but important and and and being
- 5:45Speaker 1: that you have been your congregations have been huge past
- 5:48Speaker 1: to mine and said and so. But you didn't just
- 5:51Speaker 1: get there overnight. When did you realize what you would
- 5:55Speaker 1: do on your sermon? Your message was starting to be
- 5:57Speaker 1: related to buy not just a few, you for thousands.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I think the first thing we have to understand is
- 6:04Speaker 1: that when people are trying to be successful, the first
- 6:06Speaker 1: thing you have to understand is the origin of success.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Since I was a kid, people have been telling me
- 6:11Speaker 1: there's something different about you. So for me, it was
- 6:14Speaker 1: singing solos with my father. I had the largest youth
- 6:17Speaker 1: ministry in the state of Alabama. You know. I was
- 6:19Speaker 1: drawing seven, eight, nine hundred young people on a Monday
- 6:22Speaker 1: night in my dad's church for youth church. You know.
- 6:25Speaker 1: So when we started the church at twenty five, I
- 6:28Speaker 1: held a spaghetti dinner downstairs in my dad's basement. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: held I invited about fifty or sixty people down and
- 6:34Speaker 1: I shared my vision. We raised about twelve thousand dollars
- 6:37Speaker 1: that night. I paid my rent up for six months.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I bought my sound equipment with the other half, and
- 6:42Speaker 1: we said, let's see God. I knew we had something
- 6:45Speaker 1: special when people just started coming out of nowhere. If
- 6:48Speaker 1: I give you the fast forward version, because we don't
- 6:50Speaker 1: have all day, I know that two thousand nine, I'm
- 6:52Speaker 1: gonna say ten people show up, two thousand ten close
- 6:55Speaker 1: to a thousand. Two thousand eleven is over six thousand
- 6:59Speaker 1: people in about l to the point where the fire
- 7:01Speaker 1: marshal is stopping letting It has to stop letting people in,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and that's when they hit me. I said, man, we're
- 7:06Speaker 1: doing something special. And I believe so many times, uh
- 7:10Speaker 1: we miss on being who God called us to be
- 7:13Speaker 1: because we've been on doing what we want to be.
- 7:16Speaker 1: That's why I tell everybody church is absolutely vital, like
- 7:19Speaker 1: you saying, man, it's absolutely vital fire development, but your
- 7:22Speaker 1: relationship with God is more important. And sadly people limit
- 7:26Speaker 1: their relationship with God on where they go physically. That
- 7:30Speaker 1: I believe that if your relationship with God is tight,
- 7:32Speaker 1: we learned during the pandemic, I can have church where
- 7:34Speaker 1: everybody am absolutely and and and church has always been
- 7:37Speaker 1: the forefront of to a lot of people for crisis.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You know that, you know that, you know, like they
- 7:43Speaker 1: always say, you know when you you can't find God
- 7:46Speaker 1: when you're doing good, when we're doing bad, you find
- 7:48Speaker 1: them all the time. That it's that classic car, Hallmark car,
- 7:53Speaker 1: when you know when you're you're walking and doing the doing,
- 7:56Speaker 1: the doing, the uh doing during the time you see
- 7:59Speaker 1: two ft and four foot prints and then you see
- 8:02Speaker 1: two for prints when you know when you when you're
- 8:04Speaker 1: doing bad. And they said, when I'm doing bad, I
- 8:07Speaker 1: don't see two prints. He said, I'm carrying you. I'm
- 8:10Speaker 1: caring you through those hard times. And that's what really
- 8:14Speaker 1: what you're doing with your life in Birmingham. You're carrying people.
- 8:17Speaker 1: But the pandemic was a hard time for a lot
- 8:19Speaker 1: of people. Just and guess what, it ain't over with right,
- 8:22Speaker 1: it has been is germinated to a delta variant. Now,
- 8:27Speaker 1: So how do you deal with your congregation because the
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, church doors were shuttered and you couldn't go
- 8:33Speaker 1: in there. It was mandated nationally. How did you and
- 8:36Speaker 1: how are you dealing with that whole safety of the
- 8:39Speaker 1: congregation versus generating the Word of God to your same congregation. Well,
- 8:45Speaker 1: we were the first church in the state of Alabama
- 8:47Speaker 1: to close our doors before it was a mandate. Um
- 8:50Speaker 1: the Wednesday before everything broke loose, the Holy Spirit let
- 8:53Speaker 1: on my heart, Michael, get ahead of this thing. I
- 8:55Speaker 1: shut my doors, and of course passes and churches begin
- 8:58Speaker 1: to ridicule me because they said this boy don't have
- 9:00Speaker 1: any faith. I believe there's a thing in linement between
- 9:03Speaker 1: faith and foolishness, and sometimes foolishness puts on faith's close.
- 9:06Speaker 1: If you're not careful, you will call something faith that's
- 9:09Speaker 1: really foolish. And in my heart I felt the need
- 9:12Speaker 1: to just kind of get ahead of it. So during
- 9:14Speaker 1: this pandemic, I want to say this and I want
- 9:16Speaker 1: to be as sensitive as possible and the words of
- 9:18Speaker 1: that beautiful author. It was the best of times, but
- 9:20Speaker 1: it was also the worst of times. We lost lives.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Things were difficult. But in the midst of a pandemic, um,
- 9:27Speaker 1: God bless me to have two number one songs big
- 9:29Speaker 1: when number one staying on the chart for ten weeks.
- 9:31Speaker 1: The second year I got it, went on the charts,
- 9:34Speaker 1: sent on the charts for four weeks, I won five
- 9:37Speaker 1: Stello Awards. And a pandemic, we had over six thousand
- 9:41Speaker 1: people give their life to Christ virtually during a pandemic.
- 9:45Speaker 1: So during the pandemic, I thought it was a national,
- 9:47Speaker 1: nationwide reset. It cast everybody to re examine what was important,
- 9:52Speaker 1: who was important? Have I gotten better or have I
- 9:55Speaker 1: gotten worse? So we are still virtual. Although so many
- 9:58Speaker 1: people are saying, man, come back, open the doors. Open
- 10:00Speaker 1: the doors asked for me because thousands of people come
- 10:04Speaker 1: to our church. I just feel the need to be responsible,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know, and say, hey, although you guys want to
- 10:09Speaker 1: come back, let's just be patient. Let's see what's happening
- 10:12Speaker 1: with the delta variant and the moment I said a
- 10:14Speaker 1: return date, Lo and behold, Alabama had led the way
- 10:18Speaker 1: the number one place in the country where we had
- 10:20Speaker 1: ran out of hospital beds. We had ran out of
- 10:22Speaker 1: uh I see you units. So I just think it's
- 10:25Speaker 1: all about being responsible and not being dogmatic about my
- 10:29Speaker 1: approach to church. I think that's where we're separating. The
- 10:31Speaker 1: methodology of everybody is different. Just because your church is
- 10:35Speaker 1: open and mind is closed doesn't make you right or
- 10:37Speaker 1: make me wrong. It's what's best for you and what
- 10:40Speaker 1: you believe. But I also believe we see a trend.
- 10:42Speaker 1: If we be honest that all those church doors are open,
- 10:45Speaker 1: people aren't in a hurry to return at the rate
- 10:48Speaker 1: in which they were before. So I think it's just
- 10:51Speaker 1: not being dogmatic and our methodology concerning our christology. It's
- 10:54Speaker 1: finally here the season of celebration, and no matter how
- 10:58Speaker 1: you celebrate with family and for ends, whether you're preparing
- 11:01Speaker 1: for reis magos or Karamu lighting the manura, are going
- 11:05Speaker 1: to midnight mass, coals has just what you need to
- 11:08Speaker 1: make those traditions special. Plus you'll find gifts for all
- 11:11Speaker 1: your loved ones. Send warm wishes with cozy fleeces, sweaters, loungeware,
- 11:16Speaker 1: blankets and throws. Support minority owned or founded brands by
- 11:20Speaker 1: giving gifts from Human Nation and shame moisture, or treat
- 11:24Speaker 1: them to everyone's favorite active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and under Armor. And in the spirit of giving, Coals
- 11:32Speaker 1: Cares is donating eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide
- 11:36Speaker 1: committed to the health and well being of our communities.
- 11:39Speaker 1: No matter how you celebrate, when you shop at Coals,
- 11:42Speaker 1: you're right where you belong. So this season, give with
- 11:45Speaker 1: all your heart with great gifts from Coals or Coals
- 11:48Speaker 1: dot com. What grows in the forest trees, sure no
- 11:53Speaker 1: one else grows in the forest, Our imagination, a sense
- 11:57Speaker 1: of wonder, and our family bonds grow too, because when
- 12:00Speaker 1: we disconnect from this and connect with this, we reconnect
- 12:07Speaker 1: with each other. The forest is closer than you think.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Find a forest near you and start exploring. I Discover
- 12:14Speaker 1: the Forest dot Org brought to you by the United
- 12:16Speaker 1: States Forest Service and the ad Council. Look for your
- 12:20Speaker 1: children's eyes to see the true magic of a forest.
- 12:24Speaker 1: It's a storybook world for them. You look and see
- 12:27Speaker 1: a tree, they see the wrinkled face of a wizard
- 12:30Speaker 1: with arms outstretched to the sky. They see treasuring pebbles,
- 12:34Speaker 1: they see a windy path that could lead to adventure,
- 12:37Speaker 1: and they see you. They're fearless. Guide. Is this fascinating world?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Find a forest near you and start exploring and discover
- 12:45Speaker 1: the forest dot org brought to you by the United
- 12:47Speaker 1: States Forest Service and the AD Council. Well, let's let's
- 12:51Speaker 1: talk about we talk about philosophies when we're talking about
- 12:55Speaker 1: watching you do your thing, because we got a lot
- 12:57Speaker 1: of talk about you know you throughout our got it.
- 13:00Speaker 1: We talked about we talking about the World Games. But
- 13:02Speaker 1: first of all, I just want to talk about you
- 13:03Speaker 1: and the whole principle of understanding your truths because I,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you know, I would tell people it wasn't still. I
- 13:09Speaker 1: was in my forties that I figured it out for
- 13:11Speaker 1: Rashan McDonald past the mine, and so a lot of
- 13:14Speaker 1: people shy away from that. When they hit a certain number,
- 13:17Speaker 1: they think that that's it. And I tell people, you
- 13:20Speaker 1: can figure it out at fifty, you can figured out
- 13:22Speaker 1: the sixty, but try to figure it out before you leave, okay.
- 13:26Speaker 1: And so when when I look at what you're doing
- 13:29Speaker 1: with your church and with people coming at you, what
- 13:32Speaker 1: is the most uh? Because because you said something about
- 13:34Speaker 1: the pandemic and you said, Rachane, I want to be insensitive,
- 13:37Speaker 1: but I reset myself doing the pandemic, right, I felt
- 13:41Speaker 1: that I kind of caught up with my competition during
- 13:44Speaker 1: the pandemic. And my staff would tell you I was
- 13:46Speaker 1: planning when I came out of because I do a
- 13:49Speaker 1: lot of live events, So I was planning to win
- 13:53Speaker 1: as soon as you gave me the go and so
- 13:56Speaker 1: so do I ever consider that in instance, because what
- 13:59Speaker 1: people learned about panthemic is that there are no handouts.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And guess what. It put a lot of people equal.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It told a lot of people who were successful they
- 14:08Speaker 1: became frustrated because they didn't have a plan, and made
- 14:10Speaker 1: restaurants realize that carry out is the way to go.
- 14:13Speaker 1: It made black people understand the value of technology. Him again,
- 14:16Speaker 1: black people. Black people understood the value of technology even
- 14:19Speaker 1: though it was resisting it. Even older generations understood the
- 14:23Speaker 1: value of technology instead of dog and out millennials. And
- 14:26Speaker 1: so it really leveled a lot of thought processes. And
- 14:29Speaker 1: so when you when you come around as to what
- 14:31Speaker 1: you're doing. When I was reading your bio, you gave
- 14:34Speaker 1: ut you gave out some free music there. Now you
- 14:37Speaker 1: you dropped the free CD, and I'm going like, okay, panific,
- 14:40Speaker 1: was that good to you? Come on out? And I believe.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I believe. And since we're talking money making conversations, I trained.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I have about dred people that I teach monthly on
- 14:53Speaker 1: entrepreneur and creativity and what I'm trying to get them
- 14:56Speaker 1: to realize sometimes as African Americans, so many times everything
- 15:00Speaker 1: about what we do business wise and entrepreneurially is about
- 15:04Speaker 1: paying the next bill, not setting ourself up for legacy.
- 15:08Speaker 1: You know, I told my class the other day, I said, man,
- 15:10Speaker 1: if you've got a long company, I'll tell you what.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Go knock on two doors and tell them, hey, I
- 15:13Speaker 1: want to be a blessing and cut these two yards
- 15:15Speaker 1: for free. And I guarantee the person across street gonna
- 15:18Speaker 1: ask who did that. That's called free marketing. So for me,
- 15:22Speaker 1: giving away free music was my opportunity to say, hey, guys,
- 15:25Speaker 1: here's the chance to believe in me. And the response
- 15:28Speaker 1: was crazy. Man. I believe people don't care how much
- 15:30Speaker 1: you know until they know how much you care. And
- 15:33Speaker 1: the pandemic exposed a lot. You know, I believe. I
- 15:37Speaker 1: believe I was born in one year, I'll die in
- 15:40Speaker 1: another year. It's the dash in the middle of that matters.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And if I can give you a listen to something
- 15:45Speaker 1: that special. Life isn't about duration, It's about donation. I'm
- 15:50Speaker 1: gonna say that again. It's not about duration. It's about donation.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It's not about how long you live, but how strong
- 15:57Speaker 1: you live. You know, everybody has length, nobody has strength.
- 16:01Speaker 1: So what the pandemic was, it's it broadened your perspective
- 16:06Speaker 1: on your impact and your influence. You do amazing live shows,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you know, and there would be some trepidation. I wanted
- 16:13Speaker 1: if it would be the same way it translate virtually,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and here we are now virtually. And what's crazy is
- 16:18Speaker 1: you took a corner of the room, and if they
- 16:20Speaker 1: look at the corner of the room, they went to
- 16:22Speaker 1: the shot that they have on your If your team
- 16:24Speaker 1: would go to the camera shot now where you're sitting
- 16:26Speaker 1: there and they can see me behind you on the
- 16:28Speaker 1: screens you have four TVs, five TVs and the shot
- 16:32Speaker 1: you have some picture frames. You turned a corner into
- 16:35Speaker 1: a live set that can compete with every talk show
- 16:38Speaker 1: in America right there from your spot. That's being creative.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And I believe what we have to do is African Americans,
- 16:46Speaker 1: especially when resources oftentimes don't float down. There was Malcolm
- 16:50Speaker 1: X who said, when America catches a cold, black America
- 16:53Speaker 1: gets pneumonia. So a lot of times, when America gets creativity,
- 16:58Speaker 1: Black America is off in twenty years behind the spectrum.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And I believe what this pandemic has done for us,
- 17:05Speaker 1: it's given us the ability to be creative, because if
- 17:08Speaker 1: we ain't nothing else as Black people were creative. Oh
- 17:12Speaker 1: my god, you give us a little, you give us
- 17:14Speaker 1: the end of a pig, We're turning into chitlands. And
- 17:17Speaker 1: everything you give us scraps, we're turning into soul foods.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Because I believe in I in DNA, we are creative.
- 17:24Speaker 1: So to me, man, I always say, I don't want
- 17:26Speaker 1: to be insensitive because I want to be mindful that
- 17:28Speaker 1: people lost loved ones during the pandemic. I had to
- 17:31Speaker 1: do virtual funerals during a pandemic. So while yes, many
- 17:35Speaker 1: of us were winning, a lot of people were losing.
- 17:38Speaker 1: But I believe it's finding a way to um embrace
- 17:41Speaker 1: the wholeness of what we all went through. Man, you
- 17:46Speaker 1: and I. Man, we're gonna do some live events together.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Because seriously passed somebody. I see, I see the Mercedes Beans.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I received that. Let's go all seventy thousand, seventy thousand
- 18:01Speaker 1: I received, Kim. I'm just being real about you know,
- 18:03Speaker 1: because I'm coming to Alabama September e level for my
- 18:06Speaker 1: HBCU College Day tour. You know from tennis six, you know,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I got the US Air Force, air Force Reserve, and
- 18:15Speaker 1: National Guard. I got the National Football League, I got
- 18:18Speaker 1: Coca Cola Bottles United, all of coming I got, I got,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I got fourteen h b c us. It's a career fair,
- 18:26Speaker 1: it's a job fair, and it's a college fair for
- 18:29Speaker 1: HBCUs all free. See. That's why I know we're going
- 18:32Speaker 1: to connect. And so so I'm like, I just got
- 18:35Speaker 1: to bring it up because of the fact I'm here
- 18:37Speaker 1: in your tone, and it's about giving back. It's about
- 18:41Speaker 1: you know, holding an opportunity for the next man or
- 18:43Speaker 1: the next woman. And that's what my college first, that's
- 18:47Speaker 1: what it's all about. In my city, we gave away
- 18:49Speaker 1: one point three million dollars worth of medical debt relief.
- 18:52Speaker 1: So I paid off one one point three million dollars
- 18:55Speaker 1: worth the medical bills for every person in our city
- 18:57Speaker 1: who was struggling with pass through medical bills. We've given
- 19:00Speaker 1: away over sixty dollars worth of free gas, bought multiple homes, cars, everything,
- 19:05Speaker 1: and everybody says, why are you doing this? I remember, see,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I made God a promise. If we was live, the
- 19:11Speaker 1: whole stadium will be going crazy now because I made
- 19:14Speaker 1: God a promise. Sitting on the curve in the hood
- 19:16Speaker 1: when I said we used to play a game called bingo.
- 19:18Speaker 1: You remember that car with Rod, But I said, Bengo,
- 19:21Speaker 1: that's my car. I made God a promise if you
- 19:23Speaker 1: ever gave me an opportunity, I would be a blessing.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And I believe from the depths of my soul. People
- 19:29Speaker 1: don't care how much you know until they know how
- 19:31Speaker 1: much you care and for me. Giving back is what
- 19:35Speaker 1: we do and for and for you. You can see
- 19:37Speaker 1: it all over you this college, to a different things
- 19:39Speaker 1: you've been doing. They don't realize this, even writing, helping
- 19:43Speaker 1: with Steve Harvey and all the different things you've done.
- 19:45Speaker 1: That's giving of your intellectual property. That that that that's
- 19:49Speaker 1: what I call a residual blessing that I was sitting
- 19:52Speaker 1: at home laughing at a joke or laughing at a
- 19:54Speaker 1: show that I had no idea. You had your hand
- 19:57Speaker 1: and you heal people through somebody. So I'm ellen you, man,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I believe, and I'm gonna stop talking when I say this.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I believe as black black Americans, I believe this, man,
- 20:06Speaker 1: our culture would go to another level if we embrace
- 20:10Speaker 1: collaboration versus competition, collaboration versus competition. I main this. I
- 20:16Speaker 1: could be Somebody hit me the other day that was like, man,
- 20:18Speaker 1: your music career is taken off. I struck a partnership
- 20:21Speaker 1: with this company called Black Smoke Carrie Douglas, and I said,
- 20:24Speaker 1: we're gonna be partners in this. And it was like, well, man,
- 20:26Speaker 1: be careful, don't give away too much. I looked him
- 20:29Speaker 1: in his eyes and said, brother, this is what we're
- 20:30Speaker 1: gonna do. Whatever I make, we're gonna make fifty off
- 20:32Speaker 1: of it. I said, this is why I can make
- 20:34Speaker 1: a hundred percent of ten dollars or of a hundred
- 20:38Speaker 1: thousand dollars, because collaboration is the new thing. Think about this.
- 20:43Speaker 1: When God made the world, he said I could do
- 20:45Speaker 1: the birds I can do the trees, I can do
- 20:47Speaker 1: the monkeys, I can do the water, I can do
- 20:49Speaker 1: the sea. But when it came to the one thing
- 20:51Speaker 1: that could generate revenue and produce, which was man, he said,
- 20:55Speaker 1: let us that's collaboration, big bro, and I believe money
- 21:00Speaker 1: making conversations. Tip Number one from pastor Mike Jr. Is
- 21:03Speaker 1: solidify your team. Yep, solidify your team. When it comes
- 21:08Speaker 1: to my team, I need attendance. I need allegiance, I
- 21:13Speaker 1: need agregient. I need an attendance of agreement. I need allegiance,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and I need accountability. If you can give me them,
- 21:22Speaker 1: for we can shake the world. Man, Hi, I'm fall
- 21:25Speaker 1: from Progressive. Being a baseball fanetic like me can be stressful.
- 21:28Speaker 1: It's not all sports points and touchdowns. So Progressive is
- 21:31Speaker 1: gonna help you take your mind off your team for
- 21:32Speaker 1: a moment. Instead of thinking about how they missed that
- 21:35Speaker 1: goal points score, think about the name your Price tool
- 21:38Speaker 1: from Progressive, letting you choose coverage options based on your budget,
- 21:41Speaker 1: unlike your team that missed the end zone net area.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Well anyway, tho, this distraction about progressives Name your Price
- 21:46Speaker 1: toool is helpful. It sure kept me from thinking about
- 21:48Speaker 1: all those penalty balls sports Progressivefencialty in terms company and
- 21:52Speaker 1: actially its prison covered match on the divice need law.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And we're live here outside the Perez family home, just
- 21:58Speaker 1: waiting for the And there they go, almost on time.
- 22:01Speaker 1: This morning. Mom is coming off the front door, strong
- 22:04Speaker 1: with a double arm kid carry. Looks like Dad has
- 22:06Speaker 1: the bags. Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh but
- 22:09Speaker 1: the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Oh but mom has just nailed the perfect car seat
- 22:18Speaker 1: buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who
- 22:21Speaker 1: looks to be about nine or ten, has secured herself
- 22:24Speaker 1: in the booster seat. Dad SIPs the bag clothes and
- 22:27Speaker 1: they're off. But looks like Mom doesn't realize her coffee
- 22:31Speaker 1: cup is still on the roof of the car. And
- 22:33Speaker 1: there it goes. Oh, that's a shame that mug was
- 22:37Speaker 1: a fan favorite. Don't sweat the small stuff. Just nailed
- 22:40Speaker 1: the big stuff, like making sure your kids are buckled
- 22:42Speaker 1: correctly in the right seat for their agent's eyes. Learn

- 22:59Speaker 1: change that. I'm April Denuity, host of the new podcast

- 23:26Speaker 1: you because you know poor things. Two things the point about,
- 23:29Speaker 1: like this whole set up. A lot of people question, Okay,
- 23:32Speaker 1: why are you gonna do it that way? Because sometimes
- 23:34Speaker 1: you have to look past people who want to understand
- 23:37Speaker 1: your vision and don't see the file results. That's okay,
- 23:41Speaker 1: But I had to have a team to create this
- 23:43Speaker 1: kind to bring them in what you think and trust them.
- 23:45Speaker 1: That makes sense. That makes sense. That makes sense because
- 23:47Speaker 1: just because you write the check don't mean that you
- 23:49Speaker 1: have to be there with making all the file of
- 23:51Speaker 1: decisions because sometimes somebody can see something different and make
- 23:54Speaker 1: your check be better and your value a lie greater.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Then in October night, I was I was sitting in
- 24:01Speaker 1: the world I would have because I got a lot
- 24:03Speaker 1: of talents, pastor Mike. And this is what runs into
- 24:06Speaker 1: a lot of people. They go, man, your talent, what
- 24:08Speaker 1: you're gonna do? I told God this man, I said,
- 24:10Speaker 1: God listening, if you allow me to utilize my talents,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and I will give you max effort, max effort and
- 24:19Speaker 1: all my talents. I said, I give you max effort.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I stopped. You know, I'm not a rapper, I'm not
- 24:25Speaker 1: an athlete. I stopped trying to play basketball. I stopped
- 24:27Speaker 1: trying to act like I could say, Okay, our writing, producing,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Branding, marketing, That's what I
- 24:34Speaker 1: focused on. I stopped trying to act, and then I
- 24:37Speaker 1: walked away from stand up comedy. I said, you know something,
- 24:39Speaker 1: this ain't what I do. I focused on what I do.
- 24:42Speaker 1: And that's what a lot of people make a mistake on.
- 24:44Speaker 1: They get caught up in the dream, but not the results.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Is that dream of reality. And so in eighteen Naty,
- 24:51Speaker 1: I said, guard, you give me Mac, I'm gonna give
- 24:53Speaker 1: you max effort. And he said, look here, you give
- 24:56Speaker 1: me max effort. You can accomplish your dreams and that's
- 24:58Speaker 1: through hard work, as to relationships, and through accomplishing things
- 25:02Speaker 1: that you're not supposed to. And that's what you're doing
- 25:04Speaker 1: your life today. That's why I love your energy because
- 25:06Speaker 1: of the fact that we are different age groups, we're
- 25:09Speaker 1: living in different cities, but one thing we do share
- 25:11Speaker 1: in common, faith and hard work and relationships. Yeah, absolutely,
- 25:17Speaker 1: relationships to everything. And I want to free somebody right
- 25:20Speaker 1: now because you touched on something that I think we
- 25:22Speaker 1: have to kill, debunk and demystify in our culture. And
- 25:26Speaker 1: that's this uh, that's this punishment of being talented in
- 25:30Speaker 1: multiple areas with there's a there's a remnant of people.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I used to say a generation, but that limits us
- 25:36Speaker 1: to age group. I want to say a remnant. There's
- 25:38Speaker 1: a remnant or a tribe of people that are rising,
- 25:41Speaker 1: who are who have an ambidextrious anointing. They're blessed in
- 25:47Speaker 1: both hands. They can write and sing or produce and create,
- 25:51Speaker 1: you know. And there's a quote that we say that
- 25:53Speaker 1: we say wrong. It says to be a jack of
- 25:55Speaker 1: all trades is to be a master of none. That's
- 25:58Speaker 1: an incomplete statement, because the original quote is to be
- 26:01Speaker 1: a jack of all trades is to be a master
- 26:03Speaker 1: of none, but to be better than that which has won,
- 26:07Speaker 1: which means I may be able to do a lot
- 26:08Speaker 1: of stuff, and I may not master everything, but I'm
- 26:11Speaker 1: better at what I do than the people who think
- 26:13Speaker 1: they mastered it. And so for you, you said something
- 26:17Speaker 1: that was critical. And I was talking to somebody yesterday
- 26:20Speaker 1: and they was like, man, seeing you do all this
- 26:22Speaker 1: stuff has to be so mind blown. I said, I
- 26:24Speaker 1: want you to succeed. It's a guy who's close to me.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I said, I want you to succeed in music the
- 26:29Speaker 1: same way I'm succeeded. But at some point you gotta
- 26:31Speaker 1: stop and say, God got his hand on this. You
- 26:34Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I'd like to to go. They
- 26:36Speaker 1: told me no other artists in the history of gospel
- 26:39Speaker 1: music has ever went from New Artists of the Year
- 26:41Speaker 1: their first year two Artists of the Year their second year.
- 26:45Speaker 1: You can't write that script. That's God. You know, there
- 26:48Speaker 1: is no um there. I tell everybody. When you look
- 26:51Speaker 1: at Joelos things with fifty thou people pre pandemic in
- 26:54Speaker 1: an arena. There is no fifty thousand in person sermon.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Or you look at Steve Harvey, there is no uh,
- 27:02Speaker 1: twenty thousand seat arena joke. Yes, at some point, God
- 27:07Speaker 1: just blesses it, you know. And I think what we
- 27:09Speaker 1: got to stop, as black people and not just people
- 27:12Speaker 1: in general, we tend to we tend to downplay the
- 27:16Speaker 1: writer and celebrate the speaker. Yes, so a lot of
- 27:20Speaker 1: us are fallen in love with artists who didn't even
- 27:22Speaker 1: write the song. They just sunk it and don't even
- 27:24Speaker 1: realize the artists broke and the person who wrote it
- 27:27Speaker 1: living in a mansions of copy right and ownership, you know.
- 27:34Speaker 1: And I said, you know, you might not recognize me,
- 27:36Speaker 1: because we recognized recognize. We may not recognize you. But
- 27:41Speaker 1: when a Negro ship with a shiny ball head, five
- 27:44Speaker 1: TV screens, a microphone and a smart water with a
- 27:47Speaker 1: basketball and gross right there, man, I got it, I
- 27:54Speaker 1: got it, got it? Okay, Artists of the Year, that's
- 27:59Speaker 1: the mine we stelling performing in the closing games of
- 28:04Speaker 1: the World Games of twenty two all Like I just
- 28:07Speaker 1: say this, those honors were for twenty twenty one, when
- 28:10Speaker 1: a lot of people feeling sorry for themselves. A lot
- 28:12Speaker 1: of people were complaining about life. He was accomplishing those
- 28:15Speaker 1: tasks in twenty to be ardored in one. And so
- 28:19Speaker 1: I say that before we go over to the World
- 28:21Speaker 1: Game conversations is this it's when is always oppl ta
- 28:25Speaker 1: you the man. I remember when I was sending Hall
- 28:28Speaker 1: and I was writing his sitcom and it got canceled
- 28:32Speaker 1: and I want one of my best suits into the building.
- 28:35Speaker 1: The guy said, man, why are you all dressed up?
- 28:37Speaker 1: I said, why shouldn't I be? I said, it's not
- 28:39Speaker 1: a sad day for me. And so a lot of
- 28:42Speaker 1: people take sadness. I remember I did the eulogy for
- 28:45Speaker 1: my mom and my dad, you know what I'm saying.
- 28:49Speaker 1: And I did that because of the fact I wanted
- 28:52Speaker 1: to make sure that the message of how great they
- 28:55Speaker 1: were and how important they worked for me and my
- 28:56Speaker 1: family was told. I was told. And so I look
- 29:00Speaker 1: at you. The World Games two that didn't come about
- 29:04Speaker 1: based on something you did last year. That was just
- 29:07Speaker 1: like you were saying. Joel Osten used to write, I
- 29:10Speaker 1: used to write the uh the sermons for his dad.
- 29:14Speaker 1: That's want to preach. He don't want to preach. He
- 29:17Speaker 1: started writing, and when your dad suddenly passed away, he
- 29:20Speaker 1: was pushed to the forefront and is ready. Steve Harvey
- 29:24Speaker 1: didn't he didn't want to do family few. That wasn't
- 29:26Speaker 1: his option because he want to be a traffic cop.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And they turned them and made him the greatest star
- 29:31Speaker 1: on television in America today. Then I look at you
- 29:35Speaker 1: World Games when part of your journey. But guess what
- 29:38Speaker 1: when the opportunity to present itself, you didn't run from us.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Tell us about the World Game, tell about your role
- 29:43Speaker 1: in it past, Mike, and let's keep talking. I'm so
- 29:47Speaker 1: excited about the World Games. They come around every four
- 29:50Speaker 1: years after the Summer Games. Man, I'm telling you it
- 29:52Speaker 1: is so and I want to read this to you
- 29:54Speaker 1: because I want to make sure I get this right.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I want you to catch it. There are six categories
- 29:58Speaker 1: of sports competition. Man, I'm telling you what's so incredible
- 30:01Speaker 1: about the World Games is all the people that come
- 30:04Speaker 1: from across the world. Over thirty six hundred athletes will
- 30:10Speaker 1: come will converge on Birmingham, Alabama, from air sports to archery,
- 30:14Speaker 1: two billers to gymnastics. This was so important to me
- 30:17Speaker 1: because I have four boys. My top three boys played football.
- 30:20Speaker 1: They're starting on the football team. My third son, my
- 30:23Speaker 1: middle son, Michael, is um is on the spectrum of autism.
- 30:27Speaker 1: He has Asperger syndrome. So a lot of times in
- 30:30Speaker 1: the African American community where we speak, sports is either
- 30:32Speaker 1: football or basketball, football, basketball, music. I was able to
- 30:37Speaker 1: look at him. We have a pool table downstairs. He's
- 30:40Speaker 1: falling in love with pool, I said, Mike. Guess what.
- 30:42Speaker 1: He said, what Dad? You can get an Olympic medal
- 30:45Speaker 1: for billards. The World Games is so vital to our coach.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I'm telling you, the entire world is coming to Birmingham, Alabama.
- 30:53Speaker 1: It's a new generation of sports. We get a chance
- 30:56Speaker 1: to witness history, a once in a lifetime event. Look
- 30:59Speaker 1: at this. I want to get this right. There will
- 31:01Speaker 1: be two hundred plus metal competitions at the World Games,
- 31:05Speaker 1: and many of the events are the Sports World Championship.
- 31:10Speaker 1: That's critical. Take, for instance, the female team USA baseball
- 31:13Speaker 1: softball team. They're competing now, but they will also be
- 31:17Speaker 1: competing at the World Games. It's such an honor into
- 31:20Speaker 1: somebody who's dreaming big right now. I never in my
- 31:23Speaker 1: life thought I would be a part of the World Games.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Here's what's crazy, big bro? If you catch this. They
- 31:28Speaker 1: asked me to perform on the close and ceremony of
- 31:31Speaker 1: the World Games and help with the opening ceremony of
- 31:33Speaker 1: the World Games. But before they ever asked me that,
- 31:36Speaker 1: they asked me to be an ambassador for the World Games.
- 31:39Speaker 1: And I want you to catch this. Not because of
- 31:41Speaker 1: the songs, I say, not because of the billboard chart placements,
- 31:45Speaker 1: not because of the Stellar Awards, but because I've been
- 31:47Speaker 1: spending the last twelve years in my city, loving people,
- 31:51Speaker 1: and I want to submit to somebody right now. You
- 31:53Speaker 1: are so busy trying to blow up that God will
- 31:57Speaker 1: oftentimes check your motives. Let me give you this lesson
- 32:01Speaker 1: and I'm gonna let you go. Okay. Here it is,
- 32:03Speaker 1: God has two jobs. He either exalts or he humbles.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna saying, either God exalts or he humbles. Make
- 32:11Speaker 1: that makes sense, pastor Mike. If you humble yourself, God
- 32:15Speaker 1: will exalt you. But if you exalt yourself, God will
- 32:18Speaker 1: humble you. And one thing I love about what you're saying. Man,
- 32:22Speaker 1: with all that you've done, and I really feel I've
- 32:25Speaker 1: not just gained a friend or a big brother, but
- 32:27Speaker 1: I've gained a mentor and an advisor who I can
- 32:30Speaker 1: run some stuff by and say, no, young blood, chill
- 32:32Speaker 1: right there, because you give me something and I want
- 32:35Speaker 1: all your listeners to catch us. These are money making decisions.
- 32:38Speaker 1: You give me something I can't pay for with your speed,
- 32:42Speaker 1: if you're able to give me advice about everything you
- 32:45Speaker 1: learned in thirty years and thirty minutes, I just gained
- 32:48Speaker 1: the speed of moving at a pace that I normally
- 32:51Speaker 1: couldn't move back. So for me, man, like you said,
- 32:54Speaker 1: working with the World Game, that's such an honor. Shout
- 32:56Speaker 1: out to our Mayor randall Um what who was just realistic,
- 33:01Speaker 1: to the entire board, re elected to the entire board,
- 33:04Speaker 1: the entire committee, who's absolutely phenomenal. Birmingham, Alabama is being
