- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, Welcome to Money Making Conversation. I'm your host with
- 0:04Speaker 1: Sean McDonald. Each Money Making Conversation talk shows about entrepreneurship
- 0:08Speaker 1: and entertainment. I provide the consumer and business owner access
- 0:12Speaker 1: to celebrities, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and industry decision makers. It is
- 0:16Speaker 1: important to understand that everybody travels a different path to success.
- 0:20Speaker 1: That's because your brand is different. The challenges you face
- 0:23Speaker 1: in your life are different. So stop reading other people's
- 0:26Speaker 1: success stories and start writing your own. Now, you can
- 0:29Speaker 1: be motivated by their success because their stories can offer
- 0:32Speaker 1: a direction and help you reach your goals through your
- 0:34Speaker 1: planning and committed effort. That's what I'm talking about, your planning,
- 0:37Speaker 1: your committed effort. My guests on Money Making Conversations have
- 0:41Speaker 1: that same passion and they share that information when we
- 0:43Speaker 1: talk about their career, their motivation, overcoming the odds, but
- 0:48Speaker 1: they're promoting how they live in balanced life and their
- 0:51Speaker 1: secrets to success. My next guest is from Flint, Michigan. Yes,
- 0:57Speaker 1: Sir Ree is a two time w BC's Super Middleweight
- 1:00Speaker 1: champion and activists or philanthropists, sports analysts with Fox Sports
- 1:05Speaker 1: and the Epitome of a Champion. Whether he is inside
- 1:08Speaker 1: or outside of a boxing ring. They also tell me
- 1:11Speaker 1: that he makes a mean sweep potato pie. Really, okay,
- 1:14Speaker 1: let's hear about that. He's talking to the picking expert,
- 1:17Speaker 1: please whipping the money making conversation, my man, Anthony Durrell.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You guys doing how they're gonna how they're gonna put
- 1:23Speaker 1: a mean sweep potato in your credit and I don't
- 1:25Speaker 1: see those swepertato in your I can do it. If
- 1:28Speaker 1: you could do it, I got my grandma wrested. Okay,
- 1:32Speaker 1: that's all you can do is just to sweepertato pie.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Can you do it? You know I can cook up.
- 1:37Speaker 1: My mama raised me to be a uh independent guy. Okay.
- 1:43Speaker 1: My mom and my grandfather, you know, Michigan went to
- 1:47Speaker 1: little with my grandfather when I was like thirteen. I
- 1:51Speaker 1: think he took us over because my mom, you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: we had six we had I got five brothers and
- 1:57Speaker 1: sisters and six kids for her was a lot, lot
- 2:00Speaker 1: And I understood, you know why we did that, just
- 2:03Speaker 1: being around the ladies in my family, my grandmother, my
- 2:07Speaker 1: my mom, sisters, hunts. You know, I learned. You know,
- 2:11Speaker 1: all I gotta do is watch. If I watch, I
- 2:14Speaker 1: can learn how to cook. My uncle can cook. I mean,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I don't know a guy in my family that can't.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So I cook it all. So I went. It's almost
- 2:22Speaker 1: kind of like you know you said, you know, you
- 2:24Speaker 1: kind of bragging here in front of me. We're nothing
- 2:25Speaker 1: in your hands, you know, Like listen. So I went
- 2:28Speaker 1: to camp one time. It was Thanksgiving time, and like
- 2:32Speaker 1: I wanted foods, So I cooked some sweet potatoes. The
- 2:35Speaker 1: only thing I didn't cook was the turkey. You know
- 2:37Speaker 1: I usually cook at turkey. I cooked the sweet potatoes,
- 2:39Speaker 1: I cooked the greens. Yeah, for sure I couldn't. So,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know, because I know a lot of people use
- 2:50Speaker 1: that kid stuff. That ain't what I do. Na what
- 2:54Speaker 1: kind of meat you put in there just to smoke turkey? Ye,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm a bacon guy. I mean, you know you can
- 3:02Speaker 1: do that too. You know you can do that too,
- 3:04Speaker 1: But that smoked turkey give it that smoke taste. So
- 3:07Speaker 1: my mama told me that, like you said, you she
- 3:12Speaker 1: shaped you to be an independent man. And but your
- 3:14Speaker 1: whole life is tied to being independent, being yourself. Following
- 3:17Speaker 1: your voice. Tell me a little bit about who you are,
- 3:20Speaker 1: Anthony Durrell. I'm a I'm a professional fighter. You know,
- 3:24Speaker 1: that's not what I want to I want to be
- 3:28Speaker 1: known as just the helper, you know, somebody that goes
- 3:30Speaker 1: out there to help people, you know, especially before you
- 3:33Speaker 1: is a professional fighter. I'm a boxer. I've been doing
- 3:37Speaker 1: this since I was nine years old, so that's really
- 3:40Speaker 1: you know what people think. I just know, but I
- 3:44Speaker 1: love boxing. Boxing. What is my life? You know, that's
- 3:46Speaker 1: how you know I got to the position that I mean,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and I'm grateful for my grandfather got me and when
- 3:52Speaker 1: I was like I say, nine, and I'm just so
- 3:54Speaker 1: happy that to be in this position. I had to
- 3:57Speaker 1: fight for everything, you know, when I lost the world
- 4:01Speaker 1: tighter to when I got it back and then just
- 4:04Speaker 1: lost it again. But you know, good things. How do
- 4:07Speaker 1: you deal with those highs and loads? Because my show
- 4:09Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation tells people about overcoming the odds that
- 4:13Speaker 1: you know, you have to have a plan when you
- 4:15Speaker 1: get knocked out the company to ship back up or
- 4:17Speaker 1: walk straight when people think you should be you're running.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You just you just have to keep You have to
- 4:23Speaker 1: believe it in your mind that you know you can
- 4:25Speaker 1: keep moving forward. A loss is just something to get
- 4:29Speaker 1: you to the next step. Everybody takes a loss. Of
- 4:31Speaker 1: the grades took a loss. Mohammed Ali took a loss,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and that's not even it. If you look at the
- 4:36Speaker 1: successful business owner, they took a loss in some time,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but they still persevered and got past that, that that
- 4:43Speaker 1: hurdle that was in front of them, and then succeeded
- 4:46Speaker 1: to be million or billionaires. I only put boxing glows
- 4:51Speaker 1: on one time in middle school when out there swinging
- 4:55Speaker 1: my forces for swings, and my my arm just dropped
- 4:58Speaker 1: to my side. I couldn't pull them up no more.
- 5:00Speaker 1: That let me know that this is not what I
- 5:02Speaker 1: what you can do, it's easy. It's not easy, but
- 5:05Speaker 1: but you you make it look easy. Is that just okay?
- 5:09Speaker 1: Nine years old you put on the globes. How much
- 5:11Speaker 1: did they weight? They were? Uh, that's that's pretty heavy
- 5:17Speaker 1: because you're swinging. And I learned that when you miss,
- 5:21Speaker 1: it takes a lot more out of you. He definitely does,
- 5:24Speaker 1: definitely does. It's it's you know, I've been doing it
- 5:27Speaker 1: for twenty six years, so since I was nine years old.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Thirty five now, so twenty six years. It's it's a
- 5:33Speaker 1: long time, specially give use of something you know. I
- 5:35Speaker 1: can't if I go play basketball. I can't compete with
- 5:38Speaker 1: a guy who've been doing it twenty six years. I
- 5:40Speaker 1: just you know, I'm picking. I know how to do it,
- 5:43Speaker 1: but I'm not as good as that person. So when
- 5:45Speaker 1: somebody perfect their craft, you know, it's it's tough to
- 5:50Speaker 1: get them out, or it's you know, it's easier for
- 5:53Speaker 1: that guy too to keep going. Like I can go
- 5:57Speaker 1: into the ring now me not through a point since
- 6:00Speaker 1: my last fight and still go probably ten rounds easy.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Just knowing how to get through the process. The technique
- 6:07Speaker 1: that too, and and you know, you gotta know how
- 6:10Speaker 1: to conserve. You gotta make that fighter on the other
- 6:13Speaker 1: side think that you're not tired or something that's coming
- 6:17Speaker 1: if you come in you know, it's just it's just stuff.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Like it's just little things. If you do the little things,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and this is not just boxing and anything, you can
- 6:25Speaker 1: get fired. The little things matter. It's not the big
- 6:28Speaker 1: things that everybody sees. The little thing. Well just really
- 6:31Speaker 1: interesting because I'm talking to you and you know your
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know your strength and weaknesses, and your opponent knows
- 6:36Speaker 1: your strength and weakness. And I know sometimes okay, God
- 6:40Speaker 1: like that like that now because and you use the
- 6:42Speaker 1: analogy about business a lot too, and in your sports,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and about overcoming the odds, about knowing how to market yourself,
- 6:49Speaker 1: knowing how to prepare, knowing how they and even business
- 6:53Speaker 1: people make a mistakes. Nobody has a perfect business. No,
- 6:56Speaker 1: Apple has not put out a product that walked off
- 6:58Speaker 1: the stores. That's why the keep coming off owns every year. Absolutely.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And so with that being said, you as an individual, uh,
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know, we all know with athleticism, is you know
- 7:08Speaker 1: the biggest champion or that you have to fight this age?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Does that? Does that work in your mind? I have
- 7:15Speaker 1: that that that's setting in your mind. That are you've
- 7:17Speaker 1: already prepared to say, Hey, I'm going to do this.
- 7:19Speaker 1: So I'm planning to do this with my life when
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm for the fifty sixty or whatever. So my plan
- 7:25Speaker 1: when I when professional to retire at thirty five. I'm
- 7:29Speaker 1: thirty five. Now I lost my I lost my last fight.
- 7:36Speaker 1: But me being the competitor that I am, I can't
- 7:40Speaker 1: go out on the loss and I have to I
- 7:43Speaker 1: want another fight. If the championship fight comes this year,
- 7:47Speaker 1: it comes, but after this year, I'm done. And I
- 7:51Speaker 1: already have my mind made up of what I wanna do.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I want to. I want to start multiple business, not
- 7:58Speaker 1: just one. And I want to push other people and
- 8:01Speaker 1: motivate other people to do the same, you know, when
- 8:04Speaker 1: they retire, like in athletics, in any sport. I think
- 8:10Speaker 1: it should be mandatory that you take a class on
- 8:13Speaker 1: how to manage your money because because there there there's
- 8:18Speaker 1: no help like you give these kids. And I when
- 8:21Speaker 1: I say kids, it's kids. It's nineteen and twenty year olds,
- 8:25Speaker 1: millions and millions of dollars. They only can do one
- 8:28Speaker 1: thing with that's spend it because they didn't go to
- 8:32Speaker 1: school or don't have nobody with them to show them
- 8:35Speaker 1: the correct way to go. If I can take if
- 8:38Speaker 1: I can go back to my beginning of my career
- 8:40Speaker 1: right now, I would invest in so much more than
- 8:44Speaker 1: I am now that I wouldn't even need I wouldn't
- 8:47Speaker 1: need to do nothing else for the rest of my life.
- 8:50Speaker 1: We have to admit we all and I was in
- 8:54Speaker 1: I was in mortal, you know, and that I thought
- 8:57Speaker 1: it seemed so far away, you know, It's like it's ridiculous,
- 9:01Speaker 1: how far away forty wars or sixty that that number
- 9:04Speaker 1: wouldn't even exist, you know. So so we play on
- 9:08Speaker 1: the on time because we see time as okay, I
- 9:11Speaker 1: have this time. We're thinking you're gonna do something forever
- 9:14Speaker 1: and you're not right, and that's what that's what you've done,
- 9:16Speaker 1: thinking you're gonna get that next. And with the athletes
- 9:20Speaker 1: like you live like, oh I got a million to
- 9:23Speaker 1: come back, but if you get hurt, that's gone, so
- 9:26Speaker 1: you gotta have something to fall back on. And me
- 9:29Speaker 1: being like you said, us being nineteen and twenty years
- 9:31Speaker 1: so we didn't think of that then we thought we
- 9:33Speaker 1: can get hurt, Oh we'll just come back. No, it's
- 9:36Speaker 1: gonna you gotta put some money aside or rainy day. Yes,
- 9:41Speaker 1: then that that's that's something that everybody can relate to
- 9:45Speaker 1: who made a mistake or realize I should save that
- 9:48Speaker 1: mode because it's as successful. That's I am. I would, man,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I showed I just started saving like that guy told
- 9:55Speaker 1: me when I was twenty four, because he told me,
- 9:57Speaker 1: he said, hey, hey, just fifty every hey period and
- 10:00Speaker 1: I kept saying fifty, man, you know what I could do?
- 10:04Speaker 1: I ain't got time for that. And if I do,
- 10:06Speaker 1: just listen to him, that fifty dollars may have been
- 10:08Speaker 1: a maybe an IBM stock twenty times triple and guess
- 10:13Speaker 1: what we would need to be talking right now. And
- 10:15Speaker 1: and I believe it. I believe. But that's where I think.
- 10:18Speaker 1: You know, when you grow up, you learn so much
- 10:22Speaker 1: more because you look back on the things that you
- 10:25Speaker 1: did and reflect, like if I would have did this, now,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I can do it, and I'm gonna go do it now,
- 10:30Speaker 1: or give it to my kids or another kid that's
- 10:33Speaker 1: coming up in the game, or just want to do
- 10:36Speaker 1: the same thing that I'm doing. You know, you can
- 10:38Speaker 1: teach them, you know, the correct way, if they listen
- 10:41Speaker 1: or not, you can just put it in their ear. Well,
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know the thing about it. One of the reason
- 10:44Speaker 1: I wanted to bring on it, just like the third
- 10:47Speaker 1: we kind of missed you came to town and because
- 10:49Speaker 1: of the fact that you had setbacks in the early
- 10:52Speaker 1: age and so and that's why I always tell people,
- 10:55Speaker 1: you know, you don't know what your future. Even as
- 10:58Speaker 1: a young person. You might seem like, hey, endless opportunities,
- 11:01Speaker 1: but every every day you should feel understand it's a blessing.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Now I'm a cancer survivor, you know, I was diagnosed
- 11:08Speaker 1: that I had cancer in my fifties and it was
- 11:11Speaker 1: and it was. It was it was a major when
- 11:14Speaker 1: they told me I had cancers, like you know, it was.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I'll tell people, when somebody tell you cancer, you you
- 11:20Speaker 1: you don't understand what that word does to you. You know,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you can walk around, read about the newspaper, you can
- 11:26Speaker 1: read about the statistics and people are surviving. But when
- 11:29Speaker 1: they tell you you have it, that's a different conversation
- 11:34Speaker 1: because you start thinking immediately death immediately. I don't I
- 11:39Speaker 1: don't care what the stats are out there all you
- 11:41Speaker 1: because for some reason, that's all you think about. Oh
- 11:43Speaker 1: my god, it's all my loved ones. I want to
- 11:46Speaker 1: live a long time. How did you react to it, Anthony?
- 11:50Speaker 1: So when I had it, I was one. It was
- 11:53Speaker 1: two thousand six, so I think I was twenty one. Uh.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I didn't really know much about it, honestly, And when
- 12:05Speaker 1: I started reading up on it, that's when my I
- 12:07Speaker 1: started getting down and down and down, because like you say,
- 12:10Speaker 1: when you think of cancer, you think of death. I mean,
- 12:12Speaker 1: that's only that's true. Yeah, and that's true. And when
- 12:19Speaker 1: I went to the doctor, he said that it was
- 12:21Speaker 1: a nine percent curable rate kind of brought me up.
- 12:26Speaker 1: But that medicine still brought me down. Uh it was.
- 12:31Speaker 1: It was tough. Cancer. It's no joke. You know. I
- 12:33Speaker 1: was talking to this I've seen the kids smoking. Uh
- 12:37Speaker 1: couldn't have been. I don't even think there was eighteen.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And I said, why are you smoking? Because I know
- 12:43Speaker 1: what cancer, I know what I know what chemo feels like.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And they said it doesn't matter, I'm gonna die. I
- 12:50Speaker 1: was like, yeah, but that's not that's not it. Like
- 12:53Speaker 1: when the chemo is just it seems like it's just
- 12:55Speaker 1: worse than death to me. And I don't even know
- 12:57Speaker 1: what death feels like, but it just seemed like it's worse.
- 12:59Speaker 1: It just had me just down the whole time. Body
- 13:04Speaker 1: wasn't feeling right. It just had me going through things
- 13:07Speaker 1: that that was a challenge. Then you recover correct and
- 13:12Speaker 1: then motorcycle twiter. So at you the point your life
- 13:18Speaker 1: on what that what's going on here? You know what?
- 13:22Speaker 1: When I did get into the motorcycle accident, the first
- 13:27Speaker 1: thing I thought about was just me living or walking again,
- 13:31Speaker 1: just to play with my kids. Uh, that was the
- 13:33Speaker 1: first thing. But when I knew that it will be okay,
- 13:37Speaker 1: like I will recover fully, it, Uh you know what
- 13:43Speaker 1: was damage? So I broke my leg. So this finger
- 13:46Speaker 1: was here, this one was here. I mean you can
- 13:48Speaker 1: still see it. So your finger moving it cut on
- 13:53Speaker 1: your left hand. Yep, it could from this thing, you know,
- 13:57Speaker 1: my index fingers where my thumb was. My thumb is
- 13:59Speaker 1: where mine risk. So and they didn't even know at
- 14:06Speaker 1: the time. Oh when they knew about my hand, they
- 14:08Speaker 1: didn't know about my leg my leg. I had my bones.
- 14:11Speaker 1: They got my leg and they didn't they say, there's
- 14:14Speaker 1: anything else. So I said, yeah, my leg is broke.
- 14:17Speaker 1: They cut my pants and I went into sur I
- 14:19Speaker 1: think I was in surgery four hours maybe, So they
- 14:22Speaker 1: got a ride and my leg is still in the
- 14:25Speaker 1: have with your hand and my leg is broken. Ye,
- 14:29Speaker 1: so you just dealing with the pain at that time. Yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I said, y'all gotta give me something. And then they
- 14:34Speaker 1: hit me with the more. I just went into heaven
- 14:37Speaker 1: like I could. And I was literally like when they
- 14:41Speaker 1: say your life flashed before your eyes before death. Honestly,
- 14:47Speaker 1: my life literally I've seen everything, Like this is no joke.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Right before I hit that car, IVE seen everything just
- 14:55Speaker 1: I mean it was like a split second, but everything
- 14:58Speaker 1: you can see it clearly, everything. And then I hit
- 15:00Speaker 1: the car. But I got up. I have never blanked out.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I got up, but I fell back down and my
- 15:06Speaker 1: leg was broke. I got back up again because I
- 15:08Speaker 1: didn't know what was wrong, and I fell back down.
- 15:10Speaker 1: They said stay down, your leg broke. But my leg
- 15:12Speaker 1: was twisted in the back, so my my front, my
- 15:15Speaker 1: foot was in the backwards and I had to flick
- 15:18Speaker 1: it back or whatnot. But yeah, it was. It was bad.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But I think everything happens for a reason. You know,
- 15:25Speaker 1: was I supposed to get it? Should I have been
- 15:27Speaker 1: on the motorcycle? Don't know, but I was. You know,
- 15:31Speaker 1: everything happens for a reason. I think it just makes
- 15:33Speaker 1: you a better person, you know it. It makes your
- 15:37Speaker 1: story better. And and if I could take something back
- 15:45Speaker 1: that in my life that happened, I will take. I
- 15:48Speaker 1: would change nothing because anything happens for a reason. It
- 15:51Speaker 1: molded me into who I know. Because when I hear
- 15:53Speaker 1: you talk and I'm talking to two times world middleweight
- 15:57Speaker 1: champion Supermiddle, Age Super say they just put world was super.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I got put super right there, Super super middleweight champion
- 16:05Speaker 1: Anthony Durrell. You know I talked about, you know, my
- 16:10Speaker 1: lung collapse. You know, stay in hospital thirty days, I'll
- 16:14Speaker 1: talk about you know, I'm turned tires. I probably shouldn't
- 16:17Speaker 1: have been driving a car, and I woke up and
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'm going, I'm five miles down the road, don't remember
- 16:24Speaker 1: the five miles and I did, and I don't even drink,
- 16:27Speaker 1: just doing stuff, pushing myself physically where I shouldn't have
- 16:30Speaker 1: not have pushed myself. And so so that's those are
- 16:33Speaker 1: the stories I have to tell people that, Okay, what
- 16:36Speaker 1: I did was stupid, and I'm alive to tell you
- 16:39Speaker 1: it was stupid. So that's my role that I played.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So when I listened to I'm asking you to tell
- 16:43Speaker 1: your story because of the fact that as we as
- 16:46Speaker 1: young people who listened to my show, we put a
- 16:49Speaker 1: time lyne on I wait, I'll do that later, and
- 16:52Speaker 1: you really don't know what later is or what later
- 16:55Speaker 1: can bring you. So when people talk about saving money,
- 16:58Speaker 1: people talk about get that education, people talk about living
- 17:01Speaker 1: your life, pursuing opportunities that being given to you and
- 17:04Speaker 1: not realizing that blessing because you think you can wait.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Your experience is being chronicle right now for us on
- 17:10Speaker 1: this show says do it now, right. You have to
- 17:13Speaker 1: live every day in that moment, I don't think because
- 17:17Speaker 1: tomorrow is not promising. You know, we see that from
- 17:20Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant and and and rest in peace to her
- 17:24Speaker 1: and conduce this goes out to his family, but we
- 17:27Speaker 1: see that in that. But you have to live for
- 17:31Speaker 1: the day. You can't live for tomorrow. You can't live
- 17:34Speaker 1: for the week. You have to live for the day.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And and that's the big thing. That's the thing I
- 17:38Speaker 1: don't think you know, younger people UH understand about about life.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It's life. You have to you have to live it
- 17:46Speaker 1: in I think you live it. You know how you
- 17:50Speaker 1: want to live it. You know you you you you
- 17:53Speaker 1: do things that you want to do. If you don't
- 17:55Speaker 1: explore this world or get out and get out your
- 17:59Speaker 1: comfort zone something time, it'll be I mean, it's just be.
- 18:02Speaker 1: It'd be bad. I know some people you know from
- 18:04Speaker 1: my city, Flint, Michigan, who haven't left Flint. We want
- 18:08Speaker 1: to talk about that in the next break because that's
- 18:10Speaker 1: really why we have you on the show, because I
- 18:12Speaker 1: want to be a part of that. You know, I
- 18:14Speaker 1: got a lot too many people surrounded me from Flint.
- 18:16Speaker 1: You know, Mama Soul, that's my girl out there, you know,
- 18:19Speaker 1: And so just let you know how deep I go
- 18:21Speaker 1: up there. Okay, Uh, now you said your titler is
- 18:24Speaker 1: really uh. Two times super World super Middleweight Champion Anthony Durrell,
- 18:29Speaker 1: We're right back. He's Flint Michigan ball and we will
- 18:31Speaker 1: come back and we'll talk about some causes. He's you know,
- 18:34Speaker 1: he got his own day up there and everything every
- 18:36Speaker 1: year step come around. He got this day in the
- 18:39Speaker 1: rail day. Everybody know him up there. He's a bad man.
- 18:43Speaker 1: He's a bad man. Be right back with more Money
- 18:45Speaker 1: Make Conversations. We'll be right back with more from Martha
- 18:51Speaker 1: McDonald The Money Making Conversations Don't touch that dog. Money
- 18:59Speaker 1: Making Conversations continues online at www dot money Making Conversations
- 19:04Speaker 1: dot com, and follow Money Making Conversations on Facebook, Twitter,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and Instagram. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time you stop thinking
- 19:11Speaker 1: about your dreams and put some plans into action. I
- 19:14Speaker 1: just Reshard McDonald sitting next to two times super Member
- 19:17Speaker 1: by Champion Anthony Grell out of flat Michigan. Can you
- 19:20Speaker 1: still stay in flat grand blank? On the ALCA, I
- 19:22Speaker 1: still stay in Michigan. Okay. I don't think I'll move.
- 19:24Speaker 1: When when something feels right, you don't want to change
- 19:28Speaker 1: to your weather. So I lived in Chicago five years,
- 19:31Speaker 1: so I got closed and I got clothes I can't
- 19:33Speaker 1: wear nowhere else but in Chicago, because you know, it
- 19:36Speaker 1: hits some snow yesterday. But I was ready, I ready.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I got from don't come up and they got with
- 19:48Speaker 1: your brother, And you might be a lot more colder
- 19:50Speaker 1: than that being up there. It's all right, But so
- 19:54Speaker 1: why do you stay up there? Why is Michigan part
- 19:55Speaker 1: of your just part of your your lifestock because you
- 19:58Speaker 1: have the money and the success to live anywhere while
- 20:01Speaker 1: you're why are you staying in Michigan? Just it feels right?
- 20:04Speaker 1: You know, when something feels right, you you kind of
- 20:06Speaker 1: stay put. But I can go anywhere. You know, I
- 20:08Speaker 1: can vacation any Uh. When it starts feeling wrong, that's
- 20:13Speaker 1: when you know I'll have to pack my things and move.
- 20:16Speaker 1: But until then, you know, I'm a I'm I'm from Flint,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know that's I'm from Michigan. So that's where you
- 20:22Speaker 1: know I'll be for I think the remainder of my life.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Like I said, I can go, I can travel anywhere,
- 20:29Speaker 1: and I think just other places, just vacations, you know,
- 20:33Speaker 1: home is home. No matter where you're at, you're always
- 20:36Speaker 1: going to think of where you was born and where
- 20:37Speaker 1: you grew up. It's it's home. Nothing can beat beat home. This.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Um oh, boxing you have you know, you have UFC
- 20:47Speaker 1: out there now you know, and then you have a
- 20:49Speaker 1: wrastling is always out there because in the end, boxing,
- 20:52Speaker 1: like any football about it's entertainment. Yeah, it's entertainment. It's entertainment.
- 20:56Speaker 1: So so do you consider yourself an ambassador a boxing
- 21:02Speaker 1: as you as you as your career transitions because you're
- 21:05Speaker 1: doing Fox Fox Sports. You know, what story are you
- 21:08Speaker 1: trying to tell about why boxing is not only a
- 21:12Speaker 1: good sport for young people to get involved in, but
- 21:15Speaker 1: also why it should be a highly rated entertainment sports.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I think you know when you got two competitors in
- 21:22Speaker 1: there boxing risking their life to entertain millions. Uh. And
- 21:31Speaker 1: for me, it's a it's adrenaline rush, It's it's something
- 21:35Speaker 1: that I love to do. I've been doing it, like
- 21:36Speaker 1: I said, since I was nine. And uh, it's just
- 21:41Speaker 1: and plus your family member. Yeah, I mean my grandfather,
- 21:44Speaker 1: boxer Muhammad Ali. You know, he was friends with them.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Uh that's where we got into boxing. And my grandfather,
- 21:53Speaker 1: So for us to do it, and it's to make
- 21:55Speaker 1: him proud. He loves seeing us when he loves seeing
- 21:58Speaker 1: us happy. If if I can just make him happy,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I give all this to him, because without him, there
- 22:04Speaker 1: will be no You gotta have the talent, though you do,
- 22:07Speaker 1: but he got that talent out of us. And if
- 22:10Speaker 1: you don't have somebody pushing you and getting it out
- 22:12Speaker 1: of you, it just I don't see it work. You
- 22:15Speaker 1: gotta have a backbone. If you got that backbone, everything
- 22:18Speaker 1: will float, right. I mean he told he told me
- 22:21Speaker 1: and my brother at a young age when we kind
- 22:23Speaker 1: of first started, that will become world champions. And I'm
- 22:26Speaker 1: a two time world champions, so what he said was true.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It's really I always tell people we got to have
- 22:33Speaker 1: the relationships that breathe positivity, you know, not negativity, because
- 22:38Speaker 1: you know there are people out there you can tell
- 22:39Speaker 1: them say you go up you ten years old, eleven
- 22:41Speaker 1: years old and say hey, I want to be or
- 22:44Speaker 1: excuse makers. Yes, I called him. I could complain the club,
- 22:47Speaker 1: you know, because when you come up with excuses all
- 22:49Speaker 1: the time and you're not trying to look for solutions,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you will never make it. It was just like Patrick Mahomes.
- 22:55Speaker 1: He wrote that little note saying, Hey, I wish I
- 22:57Speaker 1: could say that I was I went to Disneyland, Yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 1: saying that the world when he was what sixteen? Yeah,
- 23:03Speaker 1: you know, And so that's why I always tell people that.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And the thing that really stands out to me, you're
- 23:08Speaker 1: so positive and I and I'm a positive person, but
- 23:11Speaker 1: I know crisis has been in your life. When you're
- 23:13Speaker 1: going the ring, that's a crisis situation. And I know
- 23:16Speaker 1: people who you know, I don't like, I know, I
- 23:19Speaker 1: knew one person who it's paralyzed, probably for fifty dollars
- 23:24Speaker 1: just because he was in the boxing ring. But multiple
- 23:27Speaker 1: people died, like I think it was six or seven
- 23:30Speaker 1: people died in their boxing last year. So it's tough,
- 23:36Speaker 1: you know. And this is my first time winness, not witnessing,
- 23:39Speaker 1: but knowing that people died in the ring. You know,
- 23:42Speaker 1: since I've been boxed, I've never heard of it. And
- 23:45Speaker 1: I you know, when I think, I'm thinking, like what
- 23:48Speaker 1: went wrong? What happened? Yeah, Like I I really don't
- 23:52Speaker 1: understand because everybody is doing the same thing, or maybe
- 23:56Speaker 1: they're just getting hit more. I don't know. But boxing
- 24:00Speaker 1: is something that you have to, uh, really pay attention
- 24:05Speaker 1: to your corner. You have to have a good team around. Trust. Yes,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you have to. Like my so, my last fight, I
- 24:12Speaker 1: was cut big over my eye. I couldn't see blood
- 24:16Speaker 1: out of my eye and I got one of them
- 24:19Speaker 1: cut and my basketball and the guy was kind of
- 24:21Speaker 1: getting off because I couldn't see. I was worried about
- 24:23Speaker 1: the cutting, said to worry about him. D hurt me some. No,
- 24:27Speaker 1: but my corner knew that I was at a disadvantage
- 24:30Speaker 1: anyway because of my cut and I couldn't see, so
- 24:33Speaker 1: he stopped the fighting. Not it was I mad. I
- 24:35Speaker 1: don't know. I would never be mad at that looking
- 24:38Speaker 1: now for me, you know, when people don't know about
- 24:40Speaker 1: that cut because I, like I said, I got I
- 24:42Speaker 1: hear the guy's head when I was playing basketball, and
- 24:44Speaker 1: it's nothing but bone here. So when you cut his skin,
- 24:48Speaker 1: a very thin layer of skin hidden bone. As soon
- 24:50Speaker 1: as that bad ball opens up, it's just yeah, it's
- 24:53Speaker 1: just blood everywhere. And so like I said, it's uh,
- 24:57Speaker 1: you have to trust. Like you say, and I say,
- 24:59Speaker 1: you have to trust your team. If you can't trust
- 25:01Speaker 1: in your team, I think you probably need to find
- 25:03Speaker 1: a new team because that that's where all the foundation
- 25:08Speaker 1: comes in that because they're on the outside looking in
- 25:10Speaker 1: and you can kind of see more from the outside
- 25:13Speaker 1: than you can, you know, when you're in there. Let's
- 25:15Speaker 1: talk about Flint. You know, a few years ago, a
- 25:20Speaker 1: lot of controversy about the drinking water. Um as an
- 25:23Speaker 1: individual who cares because you can't save everybody. Let's talk
- 25:27Speaker 1: about the initial announcement, then the travesty that was that
- 25:32Speaker 1: was information that was made available with everybody, and then
- 25:36Speaker 1: what you're attempting to do now it's just the announcement.
- 25:40Speaker 1: You know, we had lead in the water. That was
- 25:43Speaker 1: a travesty and own for us, for the governor of
- 25:47Speaker 1: Michigan to change the water from like it was a
- 25:51Speaker 1: Detroit water to Flint River water. And I think that
- 25:55Speaker 1: was bad because if you look at the Flint River water,
- 25:57Speaker 1: it's it's bad. And I know that chemicals and stuff
- 26:01Speaker 1: to change it. But when you have lead pipes, and
- 26:04Speaker 1: that's I think anywhere in any city and you put
- 26:07Speaker 1: some type of chemical in it, it starts to rust
- 26:09Speaker 1: and start to you know, get lead in it, and
- 26:13Speaker 1: not only lead, but changing the color of the water, right,
- 26:15Speaker 1: and we had that in ours. So we had to
- 26:17Speaker 1: change and he still thought it was okay to drink,
- 26:20Speaker 1: but it wasn't. So we're going through that and still
- 26:24Speaker 1: going through it to to this day to the day.
- 26:28Speaker 1: So it's been had going on since April fourteen, two
- 26:30Speaker 1: thousand fourteen. So that's a long time to not have
- 26:35Speaker 1: clean drinking water in a city. Uh in America? Still okay?
- 26:40Speaker 1: Help me. So you're saying the situation is so they
- 26:45Speaker 1: not too long ago. I think I was in camp
- 26:47Speaker 1: for my last fight. They sold the people to boil
- 26:50Speaker 1: the water again. But they what they don't understand is
- 26:54Speaker 1: boiling water will not make leg go away. Lead don't
- 26:58Speaker 1: go away. You can't even they get a filter to
- 27:01Speaker 1: filter off the lead, it's still going to be there.
- 27:04Speaker 1: You need to change the pipes. And and this is
- 27:06Speaker 1: what I understand. Why wouldn't they get volunteers to come
- 27:11Speaker 1: in and fix the pipes. I mean, I know it's
- 27:15Speaker 1: all around you as volunteers would come in and fix
- 27:17Speaker 1: these pipes without like if you put one word out there.
- 27:21Speaker 1: And that's why I don't get about the president either
- 27:23Speaker 1: to uh both Well, it was when they came and
- 27:26Speaker 1: had the the debate in Flint, they said they will
- 27:31Speaker 1: do this and do that for Flint and nothing still
- 27:34Speaker 1: is done. So I think that's where and what is
- 27:39Speaker 1: the governor saying? I don't even watch politics. I'm so
- 27:44Speaker 1: sick of them, honestly, am because I don't think you
- 27:47Speaker 1: can trust them, Like they give you one thing and
- 27:51Speaker 1: and they do another, and that's all the time. I
- 27:54Speaker 1: don't uh, I don't agree with the way they get
- 27:58Speaker 1: into office. They feed you this fairy tale and once
- 28:02Speaker 1: they get in off as it it's just flatlines. Well
- 28:05Speaker 1: you know that. Here's the thing. I understand the frustration.
- 28:08Speaker 1: But you are an influencer. I try to be no, no, no,
- 28:12Speaker 1: you are an influence. That's why we were talking because
- 28:15Speaker 1: I'm trying to see how I can get into your head.
- 28:18Speaker 1: That's let you remind you of your power. If you
- 28:20Speaker 1: just posted videos of people still poem ward out of
- 28:25Speaker 1: these sinks and it's brown and talking about this this
- 28:28Speaker 1: conversation of why you can't bawl away lead. You know
- 28:31Speaker 1: that people think you can do that, you know, but
- 28:34Speaker 1: that information that's where the power of social media comes
- 28:37Speaker 1: into play. Anthony, and I have to remind you that
- 28:40Speaker 1: there's no pressure on you, just letting you know that
- 28:42Speaker 1: I don't care about President Trump or him not go
- 28:46Speaker 1: on and him not saying, but they can be reminded
- 28:48Speaker 1: they can go viral. It can you can. You can
- 28:51Speaker 1: always tell people. Social media is your individual press conference.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And so here I am Russia. Mcdonaldown in the Lanta
- 28:58Speaker 1: George also live in Houston, Texas. Thinking, you guys are
- 29:01Speaker 1: good and you're telling me, excuse me, excuse me good.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Problems is up there, so so what are you trying
- 29:07Speaker 1: to do? Do you have any causes, any foundations set up?
- 29:11Speaker 1: And I do have a foundation. I have a Derails
- 29:13Speaker 1: Trance Foundation. It's my foundation is help to find a
- 29:18Speaker 1: cure for cancer. That's one of them. I mean, with
- 29:20Speaker 1: all the people up there with cancer in Flint, they
- 29:23Speaker 1: still can't drink the water, and then their immune system
- 29:26Speaker 1: are is so low that if they drink the water,
- 29:29Speaker 1: they'll be sick for sure. So my foundation help find
- 29:33Speaker 1: a cure for cancer, help keep boys and girls their
- 29:36Speaker 1: education enter and out of city, and help stop bullying.
- 29:39Speaker 1: But my foundation is helping that too. I'm trying to
- 29:42Speaker 1: open the Boys and Girls club. You know, it's and
- 29:45Speaker 1: thes in the heart of where the water crisis happen.
- 29:48Speaker 1: That's on the north side of Flint and the donation
- 29:52Speaker 1: page is up. You know people want to donate, but
- 29:55Speaker 1: just trying to put something positive there and you know,
- 29:59Speaker 1: give the key is something to look forward to, because
- 30:02Speaker 1: if if they have nothing, it's nothing to look for,
- 30:05Speaker 1: it's nothing to smile about. But I'm trying to give
- 30:08Speaker 1: everybody in the community something to smile about. And once
- 30:10Speaker 1: I do it, maybe it's like a domino effect where
- 30:13Speaker 1: everybody else does it, does it, and it goes from there.
- 30:17Speaker 1: It takes off from there. Do you do you're doing
- 30:19Speaker 1: the galos, You're in the events in the Flint area
- 30:22Speaker 1: or the Michigan area to raise money, or it's just
- 30:25Speaker 1: making people aware. You have these donations pages, making people
- 30:27Speaker 1: aware of your causes using some of your money. I'm
- 30:30Speaker 1: sure to move forward. These are these actions that I'm doing.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I'm doing it. I'm in the process of doing everything.
- 30:37Speaker 1: I want to do a golf auting to yea knocking
- 30:42Speaker 1: the mint in golf. That's like I said, I want
- 30:46Speaker 1: to do a golf audience to raise money for that,
- 30:49Speaker 1: uh and for my foundation to like help people with
- 30:53Speaker 1: that with the situation that's going on in I want
- 30:56Speaker 1: to do more events. I give away turkeys when it's
- 30:59Speaker 1: uh uh Thanksgiving. I give away gifts on Christmas, you know,
- 31:05Speaker 1: on every hoiday. I try to give people something to
- 31:07Speaker 1: smile about, because that's that's what it's about, you know,
- 31:10Speaker 1: It's about making people happy. If you can't make anyone happy,
- 31:13Speaker 1: it's it's like I'm doing nothing and I see everything.
- 31:17Speaker 1: So I'm I'm just out here just trying to make it.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Here's a beautiful thing about this conversation. You have a family,
- 31:22Speaker 1: talk about your family, and you out there taking care
- 31:25Speaker 1: of kids you don't even know talking about your families,
- 31:27Speaker 1: you don't even know they are important you as much
- 31:29Speaker 1: as your family and how your family inspires you. I'm
- 31:32Speaker 1: talking about your media family wife, talk us about how
- 31:35Speaker 1: they relate and to actually push you to even further
- 31:38Speaker 1: correct the wrongs that these young people are are families
- 31:41Speaker 1: are facing. Yep. So I have I have a wife,
- 31:45Speaker 1: three boys. Then no, they they won't, they won't, they
- 31:50Speaker 1: want and I told them that one of them got
- 31:53Speaker 1: mad at me. But I just I just think you
- 31:56Speaker 1: know that and I understand that. But we really our
- 32:00Speaker 1: life in the ring for little of money. You know,
- 32:04Speaker 1: it's only a few that get you know, I get paid.
- 32:07Speaker 1: So in that case, you know, it's basketball players making more.
- 32:14Speaker 1: They dribble the ball and they're making hundreds of millions. Tennis, yeah, tennis,
- 32:18Speaker 1: I mean even golf, you know, but uh, I really
- 32:23Speaker 1: don't want them doing like I say, the three boards.
- 32:26Speaker 1: They can do anything. They can't do football. Football is no, no, no,
- 32:30Speaker 1: you have concussion because of the CT. I I try
- 32:33Speaker 1: to brush up on my you know, whatever they want
- 32:35Speaker 1: to do. No, I I get down and see it's
- 32:38Speaker 1: you know, it's safe. But my wife helps me out tremendously.
- 32:43Speaker 1: She she's a teacher, she teached at a college. She's uh,
- 32:48Speaker 1: she liked teaching, helping kids to also. So it's just
- 32:53Speaker 1: me surrounding yourself around good people. And like I said,
- 32:55Speaker 1: he goes a backbone thing. The foundation, you know, it's
- 32:58Speaker 1: it's a wonderful thing. And if you can you can
- 33:00Speaker 1: have that stern foundation, you can make it well you know. Um,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I know we're wrapping up this interview, but if you
- 33:07Speaker 1: I love to go out lunch and talk to you
- 33:08Speaker 1: about just some ideas. That's us an influencer and I
- 33:12Speaker 1: could help because I'm sadden that the Flint, Michigan situation
- 33:16Speaker 1: it's not even according to you, it's not even close
- 33:19Speaker 1: to being It's like I'm not gonna say close because
- 33:21Speaker 1: there's still trying, but I don't. I still I don't
- 33:24Speaker 1: even see nobody out there now, like even fixing pipes.
- 33:28Speaker 1: But you know they're not gonna be out there in
- 33:30Speaker 1: the wintertime. So but like I say, it's it's like
- 33:34Speaker 1: we're a third world country, uh, not having drinkable water.
- 33:38Speaker 1: You can't you can't do anything with the water. But
- 33:41Speaker 1: let it run right, Well, give out your foundation again,
- 33:45Speaker 1: give out your social media information, and again thank you
- 33:48Speaker 1: for coming on my show. Anthony Durrell two times Super
- 33:51Speaker 1: Time Super Middle eight champion, Flip Michigan. Give out your information.
- 33:55Speaker 1: It's a Derrell's Trance Foundation. Uh. And my website is
- 34:00Speaker 1: Athony Durrelle dot com. My social media is Athony Durrelle
- 34:05Speaker 1: on every platform. Okay, cool, I'm gonna donate a thousand
- 34:08Speaker 1: dollars to your found app's a good thank you? Okay, cool,
- 34:12Speaker 1: Just Roshan McDonald. We don't hear more episodes going to
- 34:15Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation dot com. I'm your host
