- 0:00Luke chapter 13 Now on the same occasion there were some present
- 0:04who reported to him about the Galileans whose blood pilot had
- 0:07mixed with their sacrifices, And Jesus said to them, Do you
- 0:11suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all
- 0:14other Galileans because they suffered this fate?
- 0:16I tell you no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise
- 0:20perish. Or do you suppose that those 18
- 0:23on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse
- 0:26culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem?
- 0:29I tell you no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise
- 0:32perish. And he began telling this
- 0:34parable. A man had a fig tree which had
- 0:36been planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on
- 0:39it and did not find any. And he said to the vineyard
- 0:42keeper, Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on
- 0:45this fig tree without finding any.
- 0:47Cut it down. Why does it even use up the
- 0:49ground? And he answered and said to him,
- 0:51Let it alone, Sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and
- 0:55put in fertilizer, and if it bears fruit next year, fine, but
- 0:58if not, cut it down. And he was teaching in one of
- 1:01the synagogues on the Sabbath, and there was a woman who for 18
- 1:04years had had a sickness caused by a spirit, and she was bent
- 1:08double and could not straighten up at all.
- 1:10When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, woman,
- 1:13you are freed from your sickness.
- 1:15And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made
- 1:17erect again, began glorifying God.
- 1:20But the synagogue official, indignant because Jesus had
- 1:22healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response,
- 1:26there are 6 days in which work should be done, so come during
- 1:29them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
- 1:32But the Lord answered him and said, you hypocrites, does not
- 1:35each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the
- 1:38stall and lead him away to water him?
- 1:41And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan
- 1:45has bound for 18 long years, should she not have been
- 1:48released from this bond on the Sabbath day?
- 1:51As he said this, all his opponents were being humiliated,
- 1:54and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious
- 1:56things being done by him. So he was saying, What is the
- 2:00Kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it?
- 2:03It is like a mustard seed which a man took and threw into his
- 2:06own garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of
- 2:10the air nested in its branches. And again he said, To what shall
- 2:14I compare the Kingdom of God? It is like leaven which a woman
- 2:17took and hid in three packs of flour until it was all leavened.
- 2:22And he was passing through from one city and village to another,
- 2:24teaching and proceeding on his way to Jerusalem.
- 2:27And someone said to him, Lord, are there just a few who are
- 2:30being saved? And he said to them, strive to
- 2:33enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek
- 2:36to enter and will not be able. Once the head of the house gets
- 2:39up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock
- 2:42on the door, saying, Lord, open up to us.
- 2:46Then he will answer and say to you, I do not know where you are
- 2:48from. Then you will begin to say, We
- 2:51ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.
- 2:54And he will say, I tell you, I do not know where you are from.
- 2:58Depart from me all you evil doers in that place.
- 3:01There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see
- 3:04Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom
- 3:07of God, but yourselves being thrown out.
- 3:10And they will come from east and West and from North and South,
- 3:13and will recline at the table in the Kingdom of God.
- 3:15And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are
- 3:18first who will be last. Just at that time some Pharisees
- 3:22approached, saying to him, go away, leave here, for Herod
- 3:26wants to kill you. And he said to them, Go and tell
- 3:29that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today
- 3:33and tomorrow, and the third day I reach my goal.
- 3:36Nevertheless, I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next
- 3:39day. For it cannot be that a prophet
- 3:41would perish outside of Jerusalem.
- 3:43O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and
- 3:47stones those sent to her. How often I wanted to gather
- 3:50your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under
- 3:53her wings, and you would not have it.
- 3:56Behold, your house is left to you desolate, and I say to you,
- 4:00you will not see me until the time comes when you say, Blessed
- 4:03is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
