- 2:00Speaker 1: help solve unsolved homicides. The iconic legal commentator and TV
- 2:05Speaker 1: journalist is on the show today to discuss her new book,
- 2:07Speaker 1: Don't Be a Victim, Fighting back against America's crime Wave,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Please Work with the money making Conversations a true crime
- 2:14Speaker 1: fighter Nancy Grace. Wow, that was some intro. I'm very flattered,
- 2:22Speaker 1: but I'm also very honored today on with you, and
- 2:25Speaker 1: thank you for inviting me. Well, thank you for coming
- 2:27Speaker 1: on the show. Because I have a twenty three yeard
- 2:30Speaker 1: daughter and and i've and so I raised her in
- 2:34Speaker 1: the Nancy Grace era. Okay, watching you taking that advice,
- 2:38Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, And my wife always say, well,
- 2:41Speaker 1: I said, look, look we're not gonna do it in
- 2:42Speaker 1: the Nacey aggressive, we shouldn't do that. And so when
- 2:44Speaker 1: I when I got to this book, it was kind
- 2:47Speaker 1: of like a journey down memory lane for me and
- 2:49Speaker 1: watching your career because you've always been open, You've always
- 2:53Speaker 1: been honest about your passion for making sure we don't
- 2:56Speaker 1: make the mistake or even the mistake that you have made,
- 2:58Speaker 1: because you've told us you've made mistakes, and people around
- 3:01Speaker 1: you have made mistake. What was the what was the
- 3:04Speaker 1: core reason for writing this particular book. You know, um,
- 3:10Speaker 1: that's a really good question. I'll tell you why. Because
- 3:14Speaker 1: I want to change the world. I want to make
- 3:19Speaker 1: a difference. And yes, trying to find missing people, especially children,
- 3:24Speaker 1: trying to solve unsolved phramicides, trying to figure out cold cases,
- 3:30Speaker 1: I guess that does make a difference. But you know what,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I was used to getting immediate gratification when I tried cases.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I would work, work, work, just beat the streets to
- 3:40Speaker 1: get all the witnesses, all the information, all the evidence,
- 3:43Speaker 1: like too, take it to jury, and by the end
- 3:45Speaker 1: of the trial, be it three days or three weeks
- 3:47Speaker 1: or three months, I'd have an answer, right m h.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Not so when you're on TV, not so when you're
- 3:55Speaker 1: on radio, not so when you're writing articles for your website.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You never really really know if you have an impact.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I wanted to do more. Therefore, I wanted to take
- 4:06Speaker 1: all those years of investigating, all those years of covering
- 4:10Speaker 1: cases and try to make a difference. And that's what
- 4:12Speaker 1: I did with the book. And you really did. You
- 4:15Speaker 1: really did. And the sad part because you documented the
- 4:18Speaker 1: book with actual stories. And the reason I like that
- 4:20Speaker 1: is because a lot of people you give people advice
- 4:23Speaker 1: and they kind of blow you off. I'm just not
- 4:24Speaker 1: saying you, I'm just sending in general, you can hold
- 4:26Speaker 1: up before you blow me off. And reading this book,
- 4:29Speaker 1: here's a true story, and this is what happened to
- 4:32Speaker 1: these people. And I think that was really key strategy
- 4:34Speaker 1: and putting together this book. Correct, Oh, it really is here.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Here's the thing. Um. You know, I don't know if
- 4:42Speaker 1: you noticed this, but did you notice that christ always
- 4:44Speaker 1: talked in parable? You know why? Because I can understand them,
- 4:48Speaker 1: even me, I get it. I may not understand what
- 4:51Speaker 1: he was saying, but if it weren't for those parable,
- 4:53Speaker 1: but I would try to explain the law to a jury,
- 4:58Speaker 1: I would use it examples. For instance, when I explained
- 5:02Speaker 1: circumstantial events, I would say, you go in your office
- 5:05Speaker 1: building building. It's bright and bright and shiny outside. But
- 5:08Speaker 1: by the end of the day, by the time you
- 5:10Speaker 1: come out of your building, you see women rushing by,
- 5:15Speaker 1: hugging their raincoats to their chest. You see people running
- 5:18Speaker 1: by with umbrellas. You notice pools of water on the sidewalk.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You don't have to see the storm to know that
- 5:26Speaker 1: it rained. That's a circumstantial evidence Okay, So when I
- 5:31Speaker 1: started writing the book, I thought, how can I explain
- 5:34Speaker 1: and help people based on what I've learned through all
- 5:37Speaker 1: the cases I prosecuted, all the cases I've covered. The
- 5:41Speaker 1: only way is to give an example. You really and
- 5:45Speaker 1: they were really good about. The sad part about it
- 5:47Speaker 1: is that this is just a few of many stories
- 5:50Speaker 1: you could have put in the book. That's the really
- 5:52Speaker 1: tragic part about this is that this was not like
- 5:55Speaker 1: a rare These are not rare stories. These are stories
- 5:57Speaker 1: that you chose that you could. You can you can consolidate,
- 6:01Speaker 1: get to the beginning middle of in real fast. But
- 6:03Speaker 1: there's so many stories out there that could have filled
- 6:06Speaker 1: these pages. And there's a wonderful read. I'm talking to
- 6:08Speaker 1: Nancy Grace. He's on the show talking about her new book,
- 6:11Speaker 1: Fantastic Book. It officially comes out September twenty second, but
- 6:14Speaker 1: you can buy the book early. That's what we're doing
- 6:15Speaker 1: this show. We promote early. Go out there and pre
- 6:18Speaker 1: purchased the book. So when could be number one for
- 6:20Speaker 1: I have a book number one on number one for
- 6:22Speaker 1: New York Times bestseller, Don't Be a Victim Fighting Back
- 6:25Speaker 1: against America's crime waves. Some book don't be a victim
- 6:28Speaker 1: fighting back against America's crime. Way. Here's something they want
- 6:31Speaker 1: to tell you something else, Mom, I wanna tell you
- 6:33Speaker 1: something else, something funny, and something calling. Yet, when you
- 6:37Speaker 1: were saying all this is based on so many true stories,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and that there were so many more I could have
- 6:42Speaker 1: put in there, this is this is a funny anecdote.
- 6:44Speaker 1: When I was writing the book, I remember all those
- 6:47Speaker 1: nights in the dark studio, I would say, so and
- 6:50Speaker 1: so's missing. We're on the lookout for let me just
- 6:52Speaker 1: say a blue hunt day. We're all lookout for of
- 6:55Speaker 1: white many fans. But I had so many examples writing
- 6:59Speaker 1: the book that they finally said, hey, you've got you've
- 7:03Speaker 1: got too many examples. We're gonna have to cull it back.
- 7:08Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna have to do volume two. So
- 7:10Speaker 1: I actually have to cut out examples because there were
- 7:13Speaker 1: so many examples, and also a real reason I want
- 7:19Speaker 1: and hope people do pre order the book because not
- 7:24Speaker 1: only is it a testament for people like your twenty
- 7:27Speaker 1: three year old daughter about how to live pre but say,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I don't like rules put on me, but I want
- 7:34Speaker 1: my daughter to be safe too. But I'm donating money
- 7:39Speaker 1: to help find missing children out of the proceeds of
- 7:42Speaker 1: this book, and I just want that out there. Well
- 7:45Speaker 1: it was now might help promote that because of the
- 7:47Speaker 1: fact that because like I when I said in your intro,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you're a true crime fighter and this book is about
- 7:52Speaker 1: it's about this books Like to me, I'm just saying
- 7:55Speaker 1: that this just use the word bible of information that
- 7:59Speaker 1: you give this You go from cruise ships to r vs,
- 8:02Speaker 1: two hotels, to two schools, to two jobs, to getting
- 8:07Speaker 1: on the elevator. It was just it was just a
- 8:09Speaker 1: voluble information going Wow, she's gonna cover this too, She's
- 8:12Speaker 1: gonna cover this too. But I want to just lighten
- 8:15Speaker 1: up the story a little before we get deeper by
- 8:17Speaker 1: you have twins and then reading this book John David.
- 8:21Speaker 1: John David is gonna give you a heart attack. He's
- 8:25Speaker 1: gonna give your heart It started in the drug store
- 8:27Speaker 1: when he went into the toy section, and then he
- 8:30Speaker 1: was reading Nicholas of All the Online Predator, and then
- 8:35Speaker 1: on the cream ship when he left and he was
- 8:37Speaker 1: running out dragging little Lucy round that cruise ship trying
- 8:40Speaker 1: to find that boy. That boy is going to be
- 8:42Speaker 1: the death of you. Nancy, Greg I'm always dragging Lucy
- 8:48Speaker 1: to find John David. But yet I telled John David,
- 8:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, you put that on my grade's Lucy.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I've always say where's Lucy? But John David is really
- 8:57Speaker 1: the one at least on all these wild juice chases.
- 8:59Speaker 1: And yes, I use them, and honey, I watched them
- 9:03Speaker 1: like a hawk. I try not to let them know.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, mom, is that a n an Account'm
- 9:10Speaker 1: like no, yeah. I laughed so hard because because I
- 9:14Speaker 1: was like, that's me, that's me with my little daughter.
- 9:16Speaker 1: My wife would say, you're just so parao. Because you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: the interesting thing about it, Nancy, is that, see, we
- 9:21Speaker 1: are in the media. You know, I'm in the media
- 9:23Speaker 1: just like you, but not as detail because you're in
- 9:25Speaker 1: the crime fighting. You get information I don't get. But
- 9:28Speaker 1: we're still aware and that awareness can I'm not gonna
- 9:31Speaker 1: use word parent and paranoid, but it does make us
- 9:33Speaker 1: aware that, okay, that could actually happen, and so we
- 9:36Speaker 1: see things differently. We approached bully situation a little bit early,
- 9:40Speaker 1: a little bit more aggressive. If we see it happening,
- 9:42Speaker 1: We're just not gonna let this play out. We're gonna
- 9:44Speaker 1: nip this in the bud right now, and you talk
- 9:46Speaker 1: about that in the book, and so it's really important
- 9:48Speaker 1: with it when you when I when I promote the
- 9:50Speaker 1: people to buy this book, because like I said, it's
- 9:53Speaker 1: a safety safety book, I'm gonna buy this book and
- 9:56Speaker 1: have my twenty three year old daughter read it because
- 9:58Speaker 1: it's not just about school age kids. It's about life,
- 10:01Speaker 1: going to the malls, walking into parks, going to stand
- 10:05Speaker 1: in hotels, going on results cruise ships, all this information.
- 10:09Speaker 1: How did you, first of all, this is a TV show,
- 10:11Speaker 1: by the way, how did you managed to pull all
- 10:14Speaker 1: these information together without losing your mind? Nancy? Well, some
- 10:19Speaker 1: whould argue I have lost my mind, but I always
- 10:22Speaker 1: say I'm not paranoid that people are trying to hurt
- 10:25Speaker 1: my children. Absolutely they are. They are, and they're not
- 10:29Speaker 1: charging just my children. They're targeting any child. And here's
- 10:33Speaker 1: the kicker. By the time someone is caught and apprehended,
- 10:37Speaker 1: the child lost station, they have molested literally hundreds of times.
- 10:43Speaker 1: That's how prevalent it is. And these people, it's not
- 10:46Speaker 1: some prov at the edge of the park in a raincoat.
- 10:49Speaker 1: It's people that you come in contact with at your church,
- 10:53Speaker 1: at your Scout ship, but here and there, how I
- 10:56Speaker 1: need to When my twins got into Scouts, you know
- 11:00Speaker 1: I had to become a volunteer and go and camp
- 11:04Speaker 1: with them at Scout camp to make sure nothing happened.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I'm happy to report that the Scouts or some of
- 11:10Speaker 1: the greatest people I've ever met. And maybe next year
- 11:13Speaker 1: I'll let them go without mommy camping in a tent
- 11:16Speaker 1: twenty feet away. Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking,
- 11:19Speaker 1: but I did it. And not only that, I made
- 11:21Speaker 1: my husband, who's to work on all it like you
- 11:23Speaker 1: take off work for a week and also dough. So yes,
- 11:27Speaker 1: it may sound paranoid to some people, but like you
- 11:30Speaker 1: and me, we read it every day and I react
- 11:33Speaker 1: and I don't want these things to happen to other people.
- 11:36Speaker 1: How many times have I left a victims home because
- 11:40Speaker 1: you know, I don't just meet him at the courthouse.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I want to go to their home. I want to
- 11:44Speaker 1: see who they live. I want to sit down and
- 11:46Speaker 1: talk to them. I want to look at the baby
- 11:47Speaker 1: photo albums. I want to know it all. And I
- 11:50Speaker 1: walk out of that home and I feel the weight
- 11:54Speaker 1: of the world on me, trying to figure out how
- 11:56Speaker 1: can I help this family. All I could do then
- 11:59Speaker 1: was to get a true vertict in court to give
- 12:02Speaker 1: them some sense of judice. But now with this book,
- 12:05Speaker 1: maybe I can't present them from ever being a victims.
- 12:09Speaker 1: And that's really important. And you said something about camp
- 12:11Speaker 1: and uh when in the middle of a pandemic, as
- 12:14Speaker 1: this interview is happening, and you created a downloadable chapter
- 12:18Speaker 1: and you said it's free. Correct, they can download coronavirus crops.
- 12:22Speaker 1: How could I thank you? First of all, thank you
- 12:28Speaker 1: because this is not something that kind of like a throwaway.
- 12:31Speaker 1: This is very detailed that she's provided to us, and
- 12:35Speaker 1: that's a testament to your personality. That's a testament to
- 12:37Speaker 1: what you're trying to do for us. And before you
- 12:39Speaker 1: get in detail, I don't want to miss and say
- 12:42Speaker 1: because I read it, and I read that I way,
- 12:43Speaker 1: because I do a lot of COVID Nateen interviews. I'm
- 12:46Speaker 1: kind of like a pandemic expert when it comes to
- 12:48Speaker 1: the COVID Nateen, the cares Act and the family response acting.
- 12:51Speaker 1: So I know when I read stuff, I go, wow,
- 12:54Speaker 1: she put some time into this and it's free. So
- 12:57Speaker 1: but but with with that being said, it there is
- 13:00Speaker 1: a need for it and tell us, tell us everybody
- 13:03Speaker 1: why there's an important need to they download this bonus
- 13:06Speaker 1: chapter that's free. Yeah, it is free, and you can
- 13:09Speaker 1: find it at crime online dot com. You can find
- 13:12Speaker 1: it on dr Oz's site. You can find that at
- 13:15Speaker 1: has Shad, the book publishing site for free. Because I
- 13:19Speaker 1: had just turned the book into the publisher and it
- 13:23Speaker 1: was a long time researching and writing that book. I
- 13:27Speaker 1: do my own research. I write it myself and I
- 13:30Speaker 1: don't have a ghostwriter. I write it um. Then after
- 13:35Speaker 1: I did that, I started audio recording and I did
- 13:37Speaker 1: my own audio recording of it too. Then COVID broke out.
- 13:43Speaker 1: COVID broke out, The book had already gone to publishers,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and I thought, I want this out now. I can't
- 13:49Speaker 1: wait for the book to come out in September. COVID's
- 13:52Speaker 1: happening now. So I got busy. I rewrote another. I've
- 13:58Speaker 1: got a thirty page chapter, very detailed about COVID crimes.
- 14:04Speaker 1: So not only are people fighting for their lives, losing
- 14:07Speaker 1: their jobs, worrying about their families, Who's gonna catch COVID?
- 14:11Speaker 1: Your children? Then I go send them back in school.
- 14:13Speaker 1: What's gonna happen. Not only have to worry about that,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you have to worry about COVID crimes, people taking advantage
- 14:20Speaker 1: of other people during the COVID pandemic, which I think
- 14:24Speaker 1: is the worst of the worst. It really is. And
- 14:27Speaker 1: I because like I said, I'm out tell on the media,
- 14:29Speaker 1: they asked me for my advice, and I talked about
- 14:31Speaker 1: the pandemic. And it's really sad when we have what's
- 14:34Speaker 1: happening right now with the checks to maybe ending this
- 14:37Speaker 1: week until the Congress is size to uh do stimulus
- 14:40Speaker 1: package too. But the details of this book, of this
- 14:42Speaker 1: downloadable chapter are incredible. You talk about door to door coronavirus,
- 14:46Speaker 1: text fraud store's. You mentioned Jim Baker paraal pirates while
- 14:51Speaker 1: robo called for coronavirus. Because we don't know, we don't know,
- 14:55Speaker 1: you know, there's no cure. I was talking to my wife,
- 14:57Speaker 1: I was saying, I will tell us that there really
- 14:59Speaker 1: isn't a cute. And so when people go in to hospital,
- 15:01Speaker 1: you know, they're really like just trying to sustain themselves
- 15:05Speaker 1: and survive the process because technically there isn't a vaccine
- 15:10Speaker 1: or a like some like Nike wail you can give
- 15:13Speaker 1: somebody if they got the cold of the flu. They
- 15:15Speaker 1: have nothing like that. And so this book is kind
- 15:17Speaker 1: of like to me, the night Quill for us to
- 15:20Speaker 1: avoid issues out there when it comes to coronavirus crime,
- 15:24Speaker 1: not that door to door the fraudsters. There were some
- 15:26Speaker 1: things in here that that just really blew me away.
- 15:29Speaker 1: The perel pirates. Can you go in detail about that? Oh,
- 15:32Speaker 1: my stars, the purell pirates, what they did and they're
- 15:36Speaker 1: more like them. There was a big run on purel
- 15:41Speaker 1: face maths, of course, paper towels and troilet papers that
- 15:44Speaker 1: I can't address that they did not take toroilet paper
- 15:47Speaker 1: in law school. But I can tell you this much.
- 15:49Speaker 1: These guys and others like them would go buy up
- 15:53Speaker 1: all the purell at all the dollars or dollar generals,
- 15:56Speaker 1: grocery stores hoarded, and then sell it for hundreds of dollars.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And you also have to watch out for fake purel
- 16:06Speaker 1: purell that doesn't meet the right standards to do any good.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Then you've got actually toxic purel is happening. Now, it's not.
- 16:16Speaker 1: It's it's not Purel, that's your name brand. That's toxic.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Hand sanitizer. Purell is not toxic, but all types of
- 16:24Speaker 1: scams are happening. Now looks like correl, you know, it
- 16:28Speaker 1: kind of looks like lysol, but it's not got the
- 16:31Speaker 1: color stone. You know, all the schemes are close, but
- 16:34Speaker 1: it's not. It just enough to make total fakery, total fakery.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And another thing that really got off with me is
- 16:42Speaker 1: when Jim Baker had that effort on his show. And
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know, it's bad enough, but when you profess to
- 16:49Speaker 1: be a man of God and people believe in you
- 16:53Speaker 1: and people listen to you, and then you put out
- 16:56Speaker 1: there some cure, some fake cure. Yeah, the Stay eight
- 17:00Speaker 1: governments are on him. Now. That had to be stalked.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And there's so many fake cures out there and people
- 17:07Speaker 1: are buying it. Number one, it could be a health risk,
- 17:10Speaker 1: a serious health risk of Number two, you'll lose your money.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Number three, it's not a cure for COVID. It's finally
- 17:17Speaker 1: here the season of celebration. And no matter how you

- 19:16Speaker 1: you don't mind. I have a fan newsletter goes out
- 19:20Speaker 1: every Wednesday to ninety four thousand fans and growing. I
- 19:23Speaker 1: like to put this linking in which we go back
- 19:25Speaker 1: to your website so they can find this. I like
- 19:28Speaker 1: to put it on. My website is of a million website,
- 19:31Speaker 1: My Facebook is of a million social media followers I
- 19:33Speaker 1: have is I can't believe it's nighty percent of my
- 19:36Speaker 1: followers are female, and so I'd love to get this
- 19:39Speaker 1: information about Covert COVID eighteen to them. But I know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: again this is just part of your brand. But I
- 19:45Speaker 1: want to let you know this. I'm doing my part
- 19:47Speaker 1: to get the word out and that's why I brought
- 19:49Speaker 1: you on the show. Do you know when you said that,
- 19:52Speaker 1: it actually made me cheer up. I can't go win
- 19:54Speaker 1: and try a serial killer, go to autopsies, crime scenes,
- 19:57Speaker 1: you name, you name it. Never shut it. Here when
- 20:00Speaker 1: somebody does something kind, it almost always brings me the tears.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Are really appreciate that. Well, thank you. Like I said,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I'm a fan of you. And because I know you
- 20:12Speaker 1: see that. The people don't understand this because there's so
- 20:15Speaker 1: much weight that's carried on your shoulders, because of the
- 20:18Speaker 1: fact that people sometimes expect miracles. Sometimes people come to
- 20:21Speaker 1: you hoping that you can find their child and find
- 20:25Speaker 1: or solve a crime that's a cold crime, and that's
- 20:28Speaker 1: a lot of way because guess what, you can only
- 20:30Speaker 1: do so much. And but that means you wake up
- 20:34Speaker 1: the next day feeling any better because you could you
- 20:37Speaker 1: did resource of it, or you didn't solve it. But
- 20:40Speaker 1: that's what this book is about. This this book that
- 20:42Speaker 1: you have. Don't be a victim. You know you have it.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It's broken down into parts like how do I protect
- 20:47Speaker 1: my child, which which we knew was gonna be in there.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Then it goes to protecting yourself. That part right there
- 20:54Speaker 1: was a phenomenal section for me. That's part two, and
- 20:57Speaker 1: then part three, travel safe, don't be a statistic, and
- 21:01Speaker 1: then the part five protecting our Elderly. Of all these
- 21:05Speaker 1: parts in the book, what was the most most emotionally
- 21:09Speaker 1: charged for you? I know you have the twins, so
- 21:11Speaker 1: I'm sure that you know protecting your child had a
- 21:13Speaker 1: personal calling for you. But when I saw that protecting
- 21:16Speaker 1: our elderly at the end, that kind of like made
- 21:19Speaker 1: me sit up in my chair, going wow, I never
- 21:21Speaker 1: even thought about this. Talk to me, Nancy, Well, I
- 21:25Speaker 1: gotta tell you something in addition to the twins now,
- 21:27Speaker 1: because my father went to heaven, he was my soul mate.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Don't tell my husband. My mom has been living with us,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and she is certainly a handful um. But I think
- 21:41Speaker 1: about her as you know, fight you somebody can be
- 21:45Speaker 1: at eighty nine years old. She is, But I think
- 21:48Speaker 1: of someone trying to take advantage of her or hurt
- 21:51Speaker 1: her or scam her. And it's happened. She has been
- 21:55Speaker 1: scammed online and it just you know, how low can
- 22:00Speaker 1: you go to attack or scam? And a little old lady,
- 22:04Speaker 1: a little old man. I mean, how could you. But
- 22:08Speaker 1: people they're like, um, you know in the jungle, they
- 22:12Speaker 1: see the weakest person, a child or the elderly, or
- 22:16Speaker 1: that's who they target. So that's how that got anybody.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Gotta tell you something, what really gets to me? What?
- 22:25Speaker 1: What was the most poignant part of the book was
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm a crime victim. My fiance was martyred shortly before
- 22:32Speaker 1: our wedding and it changed my life. His life ended
- 22:36Speaker 1: and my world exploded. But little known it took me
- 22:41Speaker 1: over twenty years after Keith's murder to try again, and
- 22:49Speaker 1: I married David. But then when I had the twins,
- 22:55Speaker 1: it was like my life changed again and I finally
- 22:59Speaker 1: really out like I could rust something, and if anything
- 23:04Speaker 1: ever happened to them, I really don't think I could
- 23:06Speaker 1: stand it. And other mothers and fathers feel the same way.
- 23:10Speaker 1: And when I write each one of these stories, I
- 23:13Speaker 1: can't help it. I think about them, and that is
- 23:17Speaker 1: what I would this book. Even writing it got me
- 23:20Speaker 1: so upset. I remembered all these parents, all these families,
- 23:24Speaker 1: all these victims, families that I would talk to over
- 23:27Speaker 1: the course of this time, and it really, really brought
- 23:31Speaker 1: my heart, but I know it's a story that has
- 23:34Speaker 1: to be told. You know, here's the fifth of stat
- 23:38Speaker 1: that came out of me. You know, you you know
- 23:40Speaker 1: the thing about this book is it has it filled
- 23:42Speaker 1: with so many stads, so many pointed stories, so many
- 23:45Speaker 1: relatible information. I was just going to share some of
- 23:47Speaker 1: the things, but she comes out of the very top
- 23:49Speaker 1: in the chapter how do I Protect my child? Nearly
- 23:53Speaker 1: child kidnappings are related to schools, bus stops, and school routes.
- 23:59Speaker 1: That were scared me because reaching to scared me because
- 24:03Speaker 1: the fact that when you're when your childhood school, you
- 24:05Speaker 1: feel your childhood school. Uh, your child going to the
- 24:08Speaker 1: bus stop, you could have walked your child to the
- 24:10Speaker 1: bus stop. I've been I've been there to walk to
- 24:12Speaker 1: your child from the bus stop. And seeing your child
- 24:15Speaker 1: go to on a school route the same thing. So
- 24:19Speaker 1: these things right here the frustrating part of about it.
- 24:22Speaker 1: They can leave a parent if they become a victim,
- 24:24Speaker 1: into a long series of what else? And that's the
- 24:27Speaker 1: tragic part about these timelines. Correct, Oh, it really is.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Can I tell you how up into the twins school?
- 24:37Speaker 1: I am, I take them I take them up, Uh
- 24:42Speaker 1: drive through there at different times of the day, throughout
- 24:46Speaker 1: the week, out in the car and about Oh yes,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I am all up in it. I know exactly where
- 24:53Speaker 1: their classes are, which window goes to them, the works.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I know it may sound a little bit overboard to
- 24:58Speaker 1: a lot of people, but after doing what I do
- 25:01Speaker 1: from my whole legal career, it's the least I can
- 25:05Speaker 1: do to try to keep tabs on them and keep
- 25:08Speaker 1: them safe. Well, you know, I wanted just that's why
- 25:10Speaker 1: I wanted to bring the book into the frame and say,
- 25:13Speaker 1: because you said doing what you do this book, because
- 25:16Speaker 1: you know, this book is about every for everybody, every regular,
- 25:20Speaker 1: every parent or anybody who's not a parent, If you
- 25:22Speaker 1: live in a teenage life, who going to college, if
- 25:25Speaker 1: you you're a young person who's about to start their
- 25:27Speaker 1: professional life, this book has a section in it that
- 25:30Speaker 1: you should read. That's how important this book is. And
- 25:33Speaker 1: more importantly about this book is that she shines a
- 25:37Speaker 1: light on don't create conference zone for yourself. Or you
- 25:41Speaker 1: feel it's all right, you can drop your guard because
- 25:43Speaker 1: she mentions, you know, especially in kids, where attack can
- 25:46Speaker 1: happen in brand name places like McDonald's, not like Chick
- 25:51Speaker 1: fil a, not that she's trying to shine a negative
- 25:53Speaker 1: light on it. She's just letting you know that in
- 25:56Speaker 1: this world that we live in, you cannot be comfortable,
- 25:59Speaker 1: especially with your children, especially with yourself. When you at
- 26:02Speaker 1: a fancy, high faluting mall and you think, hey, crime,
- 26:06Speaker 1: it never happened over here. Well, you don't want to
- 26:08Speaker 1: be the person that the crime happens to because you
- 26:10Speaker 1: decided to drop your car. That was a story that
- 26:13Speaker 1: you resonated throughout the each page, and it came across
- 26:17Speaker 1: very loud and clear, and I and I wanted to
- 26:19Speaker 1: thank you for doing that because that was important to me,
- 26:21Speaker 1: because I said, let me, let me, let me look
- 26:23Speaker 1: up a couple of names, just to see if they
- 26:25Speaker 1: reel and that read about the little girl Nicole, the
- 26:28Speaker 1: thirteen year old old girl Colde and Natalie keepers the
- 26:32Speaker 1: little track storeboard David Eisenhower. I went, wow, these stories
- 26:39Speaker 1: what you're talking about? She was just keep keep keep,
- 26:46Speaker 1: and she had lifted so much statistically medically she shouldn't lift.
- 26:50Speaker 1: She did. And then just as she's turning into a
- 26:54Speaker 1: team everything's going good, she meets up with I believe
- 26:59Speaker 1: the same was doctor death online. Yes named David Yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 1: and Nalie Capers his girlfriend, and um, she thought she
- 27:11Speaker 1: the little girl thought she had a boyfriend. And this
- 27:14Speaker 1: was a grown man in college and he did not
- 27:18Speaker 1: want anyone to find out about this sex relationship. So
- 27:21Speaker 1: he killed a little girl. He killed her, and that's it.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And then you didn't agree. Now that's the chapter where
- 27:29Speaker 1: you know that we talked about the cyber threats with
- 27:31Speaker 1: little little John David and Nicholas of our story where
- 27:35Speaker 1: you had to follow him in the room and look
- 27:37Speaker 1: over his shoulder and he Mommy, don't be looking over
- 27:39Speaker 1: my show you will m this, Nancy Grace, I mean
- 27:42Speaker 1: your mom what you what you read in their phone?
- 27:43Speaker 1: And that's what we have to do with our kids.
- 27:45Speaker 1: We have to evade their privacies sometimes, Miss Grace. Let
- 27:49Speaker 1: me tell you what happened the other day. We're all
- 27:52Speaker 1: anti camping, we're all about and like my my daughter Lucy,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I told you she's a scout. I don't mean to
- 27:59Speaker 1: kind of go out and old cookies. She goes out
- 28:01Speaker 1: in camp. You can pitch a tent, you can start
- 28:03Speaker 1: a fire, no works. So anyway, even now I'm on
- 28:08Speaker 1: John David. That's what he has done. He has set
- 28:11Speaker 1: up his camping. He has set up his camping tent
- 28:16Speaker 1: in his bedroom and he will get in it and
- 28:19Speaker 1: watch his screen from the hammock. So I can't see
- 28:23Speaker 1: what he's watching. So long story short, I said, what
- 28:27Speaker 1: do you watch his son? And he said some Japanese name.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, dear lord, I thought it's Japanese pornography.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Well guess what it is. It's anime, right, my daughter
- 28:39Speaker 1: does that. Yes, sci fi anime thriller, kind of like Marville.
- 28:46Speaker 1: But okay, so once again I've called him being good. Right, Well,
- 28:51Speaker 1: you know he's he's a he's a funny uh. Trail
- 28:54Speaker 1: through the book because of the fact that it reminds
- 28:56Speaker 1: me just talks about your parenting, and I think that
- 28:58Speaker 1: that's what I'm talking about. You just a one person.
- 29:00Speaker 1: You're an open book. You're saying that these situations happened
- 29:03Speaker 1: to me. You may see me as being famous. You
- 29:05Speaker 1: may say, I think I have a lot of money,
- 29:06Speaker 1: but I still have the parents. And as a parent,
- 29:08Speaker 1: it's seven it's seven days a week, it's twenty four
- 29:11Speaker 1: hours a day. And I don't care whether you wealthy
- 29:15Speaker 1: or you're struggling. You have to be focused. Now, the
- 29:17Speaker 1: book shifts. Now the first part one, Part two is
- 29:21Speaker 1: really about your child. Part two on got to the
- 29:25Speaker 1: adult side of the book, which I really like. Why
- 29:28Speaker 1: was it important to do the you know, the protecting
- 29:30Speaker 1: yourself travel safe? Because part one in part two becauld's
- 29:34Speaker 1: been a separate book by itself, Nancy. But then you
- 29:37Speaker 1: say you're something. I'm gonna give them a book that
- 29:39Speaker 1: when they walk and talk anybody. The teenager can have
- 29:43Speaker 1: this book. They can lie the young, they can preach
- 29:45Speaker 1: knowledge to the young children. And also if they decided
- 29:48Speaker 1: to travel as adults, they can have that. Why do
- 29:50Speaker 1: you decided to put it all in one book? So many,
- 29:55Speaker 1: um that they comes that I've represented in court, I've
- 30:00Speaker 1: been children, but I would say an equal amount have
- 30:03Speaker 1: been adults. And the cases I've covered, so many missing women,
- 30:09Speaker 1: missing team, missing college students. You know, when you go
- 30:13Speaker 1: to college you think you know everything, you don't know anything.
- 30:16Speaker 1: And so many especially girls Paul pray at college and
- 30:22Speaker 1: the other day. Um, you know. I work on my
- 30:25Speaker 1: Hallmark movies and they are born out of character I created.
- 30:31Speaker 1: When I moved to New York to launch a show
- 30:33Speaker 1: with the late great Johnny Cochrane. He would go off.
- 30:36Speaker 1: He was the host of the town. He would go
- 30:38Speaker 1: off after our show, which was at night, and I
- 30:40Speaker 1: knew nobody. I go home to my old apartment. I
- 30:43Speaker 1: was alone. I started writing this book so a lady,
- 30:47Speaker 1: a very dear friend of mine, Liz, that I worked
- 30:49Speaker 1: on the Hallmark shows with son went away to college
- 30:54Speaker 1: while we were working on one of the one of
- 30:56Speaker 1: the movies, and she was so worried about him. And
- 30:59Speaker 1: it was right after a young man had been forced
- 31:04Speaker 1: to force fed basically booze until he died at a
- 31:09Speaker 1: frat party. She was so afraid for her son. And
- 31:13Speaker 1: I got to thinking about John David and Lucy going
- 31:16Speaker 1: away to college. I don't like thinking about it, but
- 31:18Speaker 1: I was thinking about all the things that could happen
- 31:20Speaker 1: to him, and all the times I go running or
- 31:24Speaker 1: I take the twins walking with me or biking with me,
- 31:28Speaker 1: and all the cases I've covered where women were out
- 31:30Speaker 1: jogging or biking or leaving their dorm or people my
- 31:34Speaker 1: age out and about walking and jogging and how dangerous
- 31:39Speaker 1: it is and how many times do you pull up
- 31:42Speaker 1: at a red light. This is a chilling thought to
- 31:43Speaker 1: me because I know the stats on how many people
- 31:47Speaker 1: are out on part and in parole. They can't all
- 31:50Speaker 1: be hiding in some area of town. They are out
- 31:53Speaker 1: with you at the mall, at the grocery store, in
- 31:55Speaker 1: the parking lot, at the red light. Hey, when you
- 31:58Speaker 1: don't know a horse, look at his track records. You
- 32:01Speaker 1: think they won't offend again. They will. They will offend
- 32:05Speaker 1: again and are sitting by you at the red light.
- 32:08Speaker 1: That made me think about driving and what happens when
- 32:12Speaker 1: you're in a car, and how to stay safe, and
- 32:14Speaker 1: what to do if you think you're being followed, what
- 32:17Speaker 1: to do if somebody has a road rage. There's just
- 32:19Speaker 1: so many things to think about, and I want to
- 32:22Speaker 1: address them because I have addressed them, not only in
- 32:26Speaker 1: this book, but in court. Wow Don't be a victim.
