- 1:59Speaker 1: If you have a if, lead with your gift and
- 2:01Speaker 1: don't let your age, friends, family, or coworker stop you
- 2:04Speaker 1: for planning or living your dreams. Iterview celebrity CEOs, entrepreneurs
- 2:08Speaker 1: and people I like to call industry decision makers. My
- 2:11Speaker 1: next guest is Sky Alvestra Black. They mostly fascinated dancer,
- 2:15Speaker 1: singer and actor who not long ago was performing alongside
- 2:18Speaker 1: of heavy hitters like Beyonce, Rihanna, Barad Carret before hanging
- 2:22Speaker 1: up his dancing shoes for acting classes and guess when
- 2:25Speaker 1: the interview want him to tell you how he got
- 2:26Speaker 1: an actor who had to make him get into acting
- 2:28Speaker 1: is celebrating his latest gig these days. Scott started a
- 2:32Speaker 1: new b ET series, All the Queensmen. Lem gonna tell
- 2:35Speaker 1: you one more time? All the Queensman one of my
- 2:39Speaker 1: favorite series right now on TV right now. Okay, y'all know,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I don't just say that. He also played in a
- 2:45Speaker 1: fan favorite Jacobe on the BT series Tyler Perry's Sisters.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Scott will also be starting an upcoming legal drama Lace
- 2:53Speaker 1: as he pursues his acting career. He was homeless three
- 2:56Speaker 1: times and sometimes just what this episode is about, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: we talk about faith. We talked about your dream and
- 3:04Speaker 1: achieving it. But sometimes it couples are set back and
- 3:07Speaker 1: some backs can be turned backs where he did not
- 3:09Speaker 1: turn back and he's on the show to talk about
- 3:11Speaker 1: his career and most importantly All the Queens Man. Please
- 3:16Speaker 1: must my man sky vest the Black. How you doing, sir?
- 3:20Speaker 1: I'm you know so so man, I'm have my phone,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I phone with all my interviews, but the fact that
- 3:27Speaker 1: I've been looking at your face man for like I
- 3:29Speaker 1: think a secutive episode. That's how riveteen, that's how I laughed.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell you about to see it. It
- 3:37Speaker 1: was dramatic. It was the ladies were empowered. I'm talking
- 3:42Speaker 1: about the female characters were empowering. Uh. And and it
- 3:47Speaker 1: just led me to believe that there's something a different
- 3:50Speaker 1: writing style. Kim Fields was she the primary director. She
- 3:54Speaker 1: directed a prominent amount of episodes. Kim Fields the actress
- 3:57Speaker 1: Kim Fiels. She directed four episod Deuce Deuce also directed
- 4:03Speaker 1: two episodes, and Matt Barnes directed two episodes. So we
- 4:07Speaker 1: had a great plethora of different visions that all came
- 4:10Speaker 1: together to make this like cohesive, you know, beautiful masterpiece. Absolutely,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you hear nothing negative you about this. I'm teaching my laugh.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I thought that, Uh, I thought Eva, who was the
- 4:23Speaker 1: star of this show? She is madam? Uh you know.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I remember I was growing up. It was a movie
- 4:30Speaker 1: I saw called A Truck Turnup. It was an old
- 4:32Speaker 1: star like Hayes and and it was a character kind
- 4:35Speaker 1: of like Mattive. It was played by Lieutenant Hurro from
- 4:39Speaker 1: Star trek. She was the lead character. I mean she
- 4:41Speaker 1: didn't take no groulf man. I mean she talks Mack
- 4:44Speaker 1: and she cuts you out, and it was like it's
- 4:46Speaker 1: so different from her character, but it was like the
- 4:48Speaker 1: first time I ever saw a character where a woman
- 4:51Speaker 1: was like, you know, had a place and showed strength.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And this let's talk about the mattive character because she
- 4:57Speaker 1: she's introduced very early on in series, because you meet
- 5:00Speaker 1: the upfront, talk about that relationship and also your character
- 5:04Speaker 1: from the standpoint of developing it and being able to
- 5:07Speaker 1: carry it through this arc. Okay, so that that it
- 5:11Speaker 1: was first and almost all. I always say to even
- 5:16Speaker 1: that we have such a great chemistry on camera, and
- 5:20Speaker 1: um I believe that's because once we got our work
- 5:24Speaker 1: and we understood what was going on in the entire series,
- 5:30Speaker 1: we realize that these two characters are more bonding on
- 5:35Speaker 1: the commonality of pain, meaning that we're both ostracized from
- 5:40Speaker 1: our families. And the Madam character is such a vital
- 5:46Speaker 1: and strong character because she's you see a woman where
- 5:53Speaker 1: a lot of people in society don't really get to
- 5:56Speaker 1: see a woman running a business and also be and
- 5:59Speaker 1: also be a caretaker. And um I always say, the
- 6:03Speaker 1: beautiful part about this show is that it's not a
- 6:05Speaker 1: strip of show. It's a show based on humanity. And
- 6:10Speaker 1: society has this taboo upon non exoetic dancing, and they
- 6:14Speaker 1: have a taboo on you know, just how certain people
- 6:18Speaker 1: may get their money, which Madam does. But at the
- 6:22Speaker 1: same time there's an integrity to Madam when it comes
- 6:26Speaker 1: to humanity, you know, just really taking not judging people,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and and taking them in. And I always say the
- 6:33Speaker 1: silent character of the show is club eating. Club beating
- 6:36Speaker 1: is a safe haven where all of these social misfits
- 6:40Speaker 1: come with no judgment and hold each other down. And
- 6:43Speaker 1: Madam has supplied that, and myself as coming in as
- 6:47Speaker 1: her um, her nephew, am um. The casting process, it
- 6:53Speaker 1: was written first and foremost, I have to shout out
- 6:55Speaker 1: Christian Keys. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Christian Keys,
- 6:58Speaker 1: because it's based on his book Ladies nighte Um. If
- 7:01Speaker 1: you didn't know, and Christian wrote all the queens men,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I think, um, I don't. I don't want to miss
- 7:07Speaker 1: quote the amount of years, but he wrote it pretty
- 7:10Speaker 1: probably think about roughly ten years ago. For and the
- 7:14Speaker 1: Amp character was supposed to be Christian's breakout role. And
- 7:17Speaker 1: Kristin actually plays the concinerge on All the Queen's Men,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and he's also executive one of the executive producers, so
- 7:23Speaker 1: he wrote this character and he told me, he said,
- 7:28Speaker 1: once I saw your audition tape, that's a that's a
- 7:32Speaker 1: He's like, it's like, he got it. You understood it.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And I really did at that time when I auditioned
- 7:39Speaker 1: for Ampler far audition for Assistance and UM. At that time,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I wasn't in the one bedroom apartment with two other people,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and I just understood the circumstances of this kid ruling
- 7:54Speaker 1: to get out of you have have a chance at life,
- 8:00Speaker 1: like half his piece of the pie. And I did
- 8:03Speaker 1: not know what went into prison for based on the
- 8:05Speaker 1: audition side, but what I did, I said, there's something
- 8:09Speaker 1: about because in the first probably ten minutes of the
- 8:14Speaker 1: show he runs to apologize, why is he doing that?
- 8:18Speaker 1: That obviously showed to me that that's not a bad kid.
- 8:21Speaker 1: That's not a bad kid. That was a kid that
- 8:23Speaker 1: felt victim the circumstances. So I built this whole back
- 8:28Speaker 1: story on twenty years old, and all I knew was
- 8:32Speaker 1: that he came out of prison after nine years I said,
- 8:35Speaker 1: this is not a bad kid, and and getting this
- 8:37Speaker 1: series and getting the rest of the scripts, it wasn't.
- 8:39Speaker 1: He is actually a victim of circumstance from one bad choice.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And and he's actually an upper class and upper class um,
- 8:49Speaker 1: upper middle class kid, probably upper class upper class in Atlanta.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And you know, Atlanta is built on it's the South Um,
- 8:58Speaker 1: It's built on black x Linson and um. You know,
- 9:02Speaker 1: a certain level of moral, upper level, moral decorum in
- 9:08Speaker 1: certain circles. And that is where it comes from. And
- 9:11Speaker 1: and became a victim of his father's ambition. And a
- 9:18Speaker 1: lot of times, and a lot of times, as young
- 9:22Speaker 1: black men or even black man period, we're not allowed
- 9:24Speaker 1: to feel. We're not allowed to be vulnerable. We're not
- 9:27Speaker 1: allowed to say, hey, I don't feel okay. We have
- 9:30Speaker 1: to mask it and we have to just make it work.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And so amp was always just trying to a piece
- 9:36Speaker 1: of parents, make his dad proud of him. He's in
- 9:39Speaker 1: my mind, he was an athlete, a D one athlete,
- 9:41Speaker 1: coming out of school, high school, full ride, everything, But
- 9:45Speaker 1: he had a drinking problem. He had a drinking problem.
- 9:49Speaker 1: That point right there, because of the fact that I
- 9:51Speaker 1: don't want to veer too much. I want people gotta
- 9:53Speaker 1: watch you. You're a good talk with that. Scott vest
- 9:57Speaker 1: the Black. We're interviewing on this series ex fighting series
- 10:00Speaker 1: on bt UH plus series UH streaming lines called All
- 10:04Speaker 1: the Queen's Men. He plays uh. He plays a young
- 10:07Speaker 1: man like he said, he made a mistake and who
- 10:09Speaker 1: has to find his way back into life. And he
- 10:12Speaker 1: plays the nephew of a Her character name is Madam
- 10:16Speaker 1: and she owns the club. And the club is filled
- 10:18Speaker 1: with male dancers. And if you're if you're a fan
- 10:20Speaker 1: of Magic Mike, you know this is the same thing,
- 10:24Speaker 1: but it's just African Americans who are The lead character
- 10:28Speaker 1: is a female, not a male, okay, and her bodyguard
- 10:32Speaker 1: is a female not a male, okay. The decisions that
- 10:35Speaker 1: all made from a operation standpoint, made by women. It's
- 10:39Speaker 1: an empowering show from that standpoint. And this is why
- 10:42Speaker 1: I really like this series. And this is why because
- 10:45Speaker 1: I'm older than you and I've been able to see
- 10:47Speaker 1: television grow from a different perspective, like you know, like finstance,
- 10:51Speaker 1: mafia movies have always seen to cross over and be accepted.
- 10:56Speaker 1: You know, the violence, the wholness, the the slickness, the
- 11:02Speaker 1: family you know, always was brought into And what we've
- 11:06Speaker 1: seen since power has come on is that now they're
- 11:10Speaker 1: allowing us to tell our stories. I'm talking about the
- 11:13Speaker 1: general public, even black people, allowing us to tell our
- 11:17Speaker 1: stories from a standpoint of pop Okay, I'm sorry, Okay.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So now they're allowing us to tell our story. And
- 11:27Speaker 1: that's why I really like this because it has credibility
- 11:31Speaker 1: to it. This is this is no different than you know,
- 11:33Speaker 1: when when when when when I s Q did players
- 11:36Speaker 1: long time ago, okay with Bernie Mac But it's but
- 11:39Speaker 1: it's it's the credibility and the crafting and the styling,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and the fact that now we don't have precedents, we
- 11:45Speaker 1: can see things that are like Okay, I can I
- 11:47Speaker 1: can buy into this. And that's why I really enjoyed Scud.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I really enjoy your role and enjoy the characters and
- 11:53Speaker 1: the fact that, man, this is, like you said, it
- 11:56Speaker 1: is a club filled with misfits, but they're relatable misfits.
- 11:59Speaker 1: But because they all caught up into a world that
- 12:01Speaker 1: they kind of trapped in. They can leave, but they trapped.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and and and because people care for them too. Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 1: it's it's it's like a family atmosphere. And I'll go back.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I'll go back to what you said. Um, as far
- 12:19Speaker 1: as you know, Madam being Madam and being Am usually
- 12:24Speaker 1: the kid comes out. He's a trouble kid, that was,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and it's like, that's not the case. That is not
- 12:31Speaker 1: the case. You know. Um, you do get to see
- 12:35Speaker 1: Amp brings you into the eyes of this already established
- 12:38Speaker 1: world and so now as the viewer, you're kind of
- 12:41Speaker 1: navigating this new thing through AM's eyes. And that is
- 12:47Speaker 1: what I loved that m has such a innocence and
- 12:50Speaker 1: almost a niven tae to what is going on. And
- 12:54Speaker 1: he's also being schooled on, um, how to open up
- 12:59Speaker 1: himself because you can see he's not very open, but
- 13:03Speaker 1: you see the learning. And I love that Am. I
- 13:06Speaker 1: always call him the viewer's character, the viewer's character because
- 13:09Speaker 1: because you're learning how this goes, just as Ample is
- 13:13Speaker 1: learning how it goes. So that was pretty cool to me. Absolutely,
- 13:16Speaker 1: Let's let's go to my male dancers. Now, my boy,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you know, my boy, my boy, midnight face f go.
- 13:23Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. Come on now, number four
- 13:27Speaker 1: Blue can't forget midnight blue Man. Okay, Now let's let's
- 13:32Speaker 1: go and be real here now. Was any of these
- 13:34Speaker 1: guys dances before or their dancers their dancers, right, Okay,
- 13:39Speaker 1: cool Face gotta be a dancer. The face, um Face
- 13:45Speaker 1: who's played by Keith Yep, he's a real dancer. Doc
- 13:48Speaker 1: who's played by Michael Bolware is a real dancer. Midnight
- 13:52Speaker 1: who's played by Germany is a real dancer. In El
- 13:54Speaker 1: Fuego who's played by Rone, real dancer Frego. I mean,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I mean Face doesn't he does some moves on that floor. Man,
- 14:01Speaker 1: when he flipping this form and this is what he
- 14:05Speaker 1: do for a living. That's what he that ain't somebody
- 14:09Speaker 1: told him about to do that? He didn't fear this
- 14:11Speaker 1: out on the dance flow and he did it. I said,
- 14:14Speaker 1: this boy is doing this for a living. Actually, all
- 14:17Speaker 1: of the guys solos were even though we do have
- 14:20Speaker 1: a choreographer, John Silver for the group numbers, but all
- 14:23Speaker 1: of the guys solos were actually choreographed by themselves. And
- 14:27Speaker 1: that was a cool part. That's a cool part that
- 14:29Speaker 1: I think with this show is so authentic because those
- 14:33Speaker 1: guys live that life for reading and that is what
- 14:37Speaker 1: That's why I feel there's a draw to the show
- 14:41Speaker 1: because they know the world and I love it to
- 14:44Speaker 1: see that they We were able to get people who
- 14:46Speaker 1: are authentic to this art form because it is an
- 14:49Speaker 1: art form and I had to learn it, and I
- 14:51Speaker 1: asked questions on questions on questions to make sure the
- 14:56Speaker 1: validity of the show was I was captured. We'll be
- 14:59Speaker 1: right back with more money making conversation with the star
- 15:01Speaker 1: of the new BT Plus series All the Queen's Men,
- 15:05Speaker 1: Sky Alvesta Black. It's finally here, the season of celebration,

- 16:10Speaker 1: of wonder and our family bonds grow too, because when
- 16:14Speaker 1: we disconnect from this and connect with this, we reconnect
- 16:20Speaker 1: with each other. The forest is closer than you think.

- 16:43Speaker 1: with arms outstretched to the sky. They see treasure in pebbles,
- 16:48Speaker 1: They see a windy path that could lead to adventure,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and they see you. They're fearless. Guide. Is this fascinating world?

- 17:05Speaker 1: Welcome back to money making Conversations. As I continue my
- 17:08Speaker 1: conversation with one of the stars of the new b
- 17:10Speaker 1: Et Plus series All the Queensman Sky Alvesta Black. Well,
- 17:15Speaker 1: you know the fun part about this series, man, and
- 17:17Speaker 1: it's funny. I'm just telling everybody, I was entertained by it.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I was, uh their sympathy and the Amp character played
- 17:24Speaker 1: by Sky. There is a romance between Sky and Dimond
- 17:28Speaker 1: Diamonds to and she's the DJ kind of like that
- 17:32Speaker 1: the force of the house, uh that there uh, the
- 17:35Speaker 1: you know it's playing Blue is like this fearless bodyguard.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Everybody's fearless. Everybody's fearless and this whole role and and
- 17:45Speaker 1: it's like it's it's one of those roles. It's one
- 17:47Speaker 1: of those shows that where you just challenged to step up.
- 17:50Speaker 1: You know, if you if you want something in like
- 17:52Speaker 1: step up, don't don't ask for it. If you if
- 17:55Speaker 1: that's what you want, to demand it and then put
- 17:58Speaker 1: forth the effort to achieve it. And that's how you
- 18:01Speaker 1: see your character developed as you go into the halfway
- 18:04Speaker 1: house and we see you starting to one. I like
- 18:08Speaker 1: the way they brought your character along. It didn't jump
- 18:11Speaker 1: out too fast. You wanted to try to go the
- 18:14Speaker 1: route of what you thought would be successful. And then
- 18:16Speaker 1: you saw an outlet talk about that transition in the
- 18:19Speaker 1: AMP character in the series All the queens Men. Well, yeah,
- 18:24Speaker 1: like you said, I really really love that. I love
- 18:27Speaker 1: AMPS character arc because you know he is coming out
- 18:32Speaker 1: of I'm sorry, everybody wants to call you a chill
- 18:39Speaker 1: multiple cameras, So don't worry. We're editing to be clean, irrelevant, clean, okay, cool. Um.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I do love AMPS character art because you have to
- 18:47Speaker 1: realize it's coming out of prison after nine years, right,
- 18:51Speaker 1: So All the queens Men takes place current, So that
- 18:54Speaker 1: was two thousand and twelve. So now when he's coming out,
- 18:58Speaker 1: obviously he's been in prison, melling over is what happened
- 19:03Speaker 1: to him, and how he wants to just come out
- 19:05Speaker 1: and do better and be better. But now you see
- 19:08Speaker 1: him coming on, Like you said, he's like, how can
- 19:10Speaker 1: I take the road over straight? And now how can
- 19:13Speaker 1: I just be better? How can I see her away
- 19:15Speaker 1: from trouble as much as possible? And then he starts
- 19:19Speaker 1: to see that in warning a better life for himself
- 19:24Speaker 1: and also being ostracized by his family. He doesn't have
- 19:26Speaker 1: mom and that anymore. Wait, now I can maybe I'll
- 19:32Speaker 1: start this new life because sixty days later I have
- 19:36Speaker 1: to go and get it. I'm gonna be out of
- 19:38Speaker 1: the halfway house and I have to make decisions on
- 19:40Speaker 1: how do I become a man that is that's self
- 19:43Speaker 1: sufficient And one of the best one of my favorite
- 19:45Speaker 1: lines in the whole show, and if you haven't seen it,
- 19:49Speaker 1: you'll see it. If you have seen it, it's where
- 19:52Speaker 1: Amp hasard Amp says he's starving to dime and he says,
- 19:57Speaker 1: but do you think this is really me? And that
- 20:01Speaker 1: one line shows you who am bigs. He really, really,
- 20:07Speaker 1: really is a goal getter and he's gonna make it happen.
- 20:10Speaker 1: But he still has this underlying just morality thing like
- 20:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it, but going to do it by enemies, necessary,
- 20:18Speaker 1: gonna sacrifice, and I want to do it right right.
- 20:21Speaker 1: But she also asked you. She also comes back and
- 20:23Speaker 1: ask you, this is what you really want? Okay? Yeah,
- 20:26Speaker 1: she challenges you because she said, once you get in,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you're not gonna want to go back, and there's a
- 20:32Speaker 1: lot of work. She reminds you that there is still work.
- 20:36Speaker 1: It looks good. It's it's work to entertain, it's work
- 20:40Speaker 1: to make them develop this clientele. That's the beauty of
- 20:43Speaker 1: this whole conversation is that no matter what you do
- 20:46Speaker 1: in life. That's why I was able to take portions
- 20:49Speaker 1: of the story and applied. If you want to be
- 20:50Speaker 1: a banker, if you want to be an engineer, you
- 20:52Speaker 1: want to go to college, it's if that's what you
- 20:55Speaker 1: want to do, you you point your life in that direction,
- 20:58Speaker 1: work is tied to it. And that's the same thing
- 21:00Speaker 1: with your career. Despite setbacks, being homeless three times, being
- 21:05Speaker 1: in a place with living with two people and on
- 21:08Speaker 1: one bed room, which are similar to the halfway house,
- 21:11Speaker 1: or you had no problem with somebody is sleeping in
- 21:13Speaker 1: the room with you because that was a familiar consciousness.
- 21:16Speaker 1: That's why I feel comfortable with your character now that
- 21:19Speaker 1: it is out. You know, the premier September nine. How
- 21:22Speaker 1: has the public reacted to your character and to the
- 21:24Speaker 1: show man. I will be honest with you and say that, um,
- 21:30Speaker 1: we had a brief chance to speak before we went live,
- 21:33Speaker 1: and the reactions have been so overwhelmingly positive. It's such
- 21:39Speaker 1: it's so gratifying. I literally walk around and I've been
- 21:44Speaker 1: in Atlanta for the past week, and people say, oh,
- 21:48Speaker 1: that's UM and some people and some people get offended
- 21:52Speaker 1: about that. I don't I've done at all because last
- 21:55Speaker 1: year I was parking cars. I was valet parking cars
- 21:58Speaker 1: from seven pm at nine two three in the morning
- 22:01Speaker 1: so I could audition in the daytime to be able
- 22:04Speaker 1: to be blessed enough to get a role that actually,
- 22:07Speaker 1: UM has impacted people like I've forgotten countless DM say, Hey,
- 22:13Speaker 1: your story and your struggle has inspired me. Your character
- 22:17Speaker 1: inspires me because going back to what you said, anything
- 22:20Speaker 1: you want, you can do it, but it requires a
- 22:22Speaker 1: level of work and sacrifice, and you have to be
- 22:26Speaker 1: okay with the working hardest sacrifice. That's really important to
- 22:30Speaker 1: understand that. You know, let's let's talk about the shift
- 22:33Speaker 1: to this career. Here. You know, you dancing. You know
- 22:35Speaker 1: you're a good looking guy. Are you in shape? You know?
- 22:38Speaker 1: You know? And now you're on now you're on Now
- 22:40Speaker 1: you're on the TV show where you really gotta be
- 22:42Speaker 1: in shape because the guys for real, man for real,
- 22:47Speaker 1: you know, because you know you're good look at guys, guy,
- 22:50Speaker 1: But you know when you walked in the room with Okay, okay,
- 22:52Speaker 1: got I gotta do a little bit more work with
- 22:54Speaker 1: these guys around me because they know clans. I got trainers. Hey, man,
- 23:05Speaker 1: I said, I said, boy, I said, that's why. That's
- 23:08Speaker 1: why I enjoyed Man. And I'll be wrong if I
- 23:11Speaker 1: don't bring up Trouble. If I don't bring up the
- 23:14Speaker 1: Trouble character, we have not done this interview correctly. I apologize.
- 23:18Speaker 1: She's She's one of the sweetest, sweetest people you ever
- 23:22Speaker 1: want to She's incredible. Yea, And Trouble is a character
- 23:25Speaker 1: that comes into the show. She's a female that you
- 23:28Speaker 1: don't want to miss. Um Again, the show is diverse.
- 23:32Speaker 1: It allows you to share different lifestyles, accept different lifestyles,
- 23:38Speaker 1: laugh at different lifestyle be brought into the emotional mistakes
- 23:44Speaker 1: that we make, not only the lead character, Madam, but
- 23:48Speaker 1: also the relationship that Blue has, and also the relationship
- 23:52Speaker 1: the decisions not only that the main characters make on
- 23:54Speaker 1: the show, but the the the co starring characters make
- 23:58Speaker 1: on the show. That's what I really like about the show.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I really like the fact that, uh, for me to
- 24:04Speaker 1: on a Sunday afternoon, I'm just telling you for real
- 24:06Speaker 1: that I'm not a guy who likes to just, you know,
- 24:09Speaker 1: just sit down and watch show after show the show.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I was brody. I if it would have been eleven, twelve,
- 24:14Speaker 1: thirty four, I probably would have watched them. I probably would.
- 24:18Speaker 1: But Tim was it. Ten is an incredible number. So
- 24:21Speaker 1: I gotta ask you that. Okay, were's ten through twenty? Okay,
- 24:25Speaker 1: well we're level through twenty? Where what's going on with that? Man?
- 24:27Speaker 1: Don't don't do me wrong? Now say something crazy? Well,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I guess that is up to the people. Okay, And
- 24:33Speaker 1: if y'all keep streaming, to keep watching it, y'all will
- 24:36Speaker 1: create a god from mine from y'all wants to gods?
- 24:40Speaker 1: Is in my mouth? To God's? Is get ten through
- 24:42Speaker 1: twenties season two, three, four or five, six seven? Like
- 24:45Speaker 1: you know anything, It's possible. But I do know that
- 24:49Speaker 1: it's getting an overwhelmingly positive response and everybody's happy. So
- 24:54Speaker 1: when everybody is happy, that's a sign for soon hoping,
- 24:59Speaker 1: he Tim Twuny, you know I'm waiting too. I'm like,
- 25:04Speaker 1: you know all this this is a very physical show,
- 25:07Speaker 1: you know, very touched, very close. We know by COVID,
- 25:10Speaker 1: we know about that the standards that Tyler Perry himself
- 25:13Speaker 1: implemented at the studio that he does. How was this
- 25:17Speaker 1: taped and how was the testing process to make everybody
- 25:20Speaker 1: in the cast feel comfortable? Um, so that you know,
- 25:24Speaker 1: it's crazy. I never feel the show outside of COVID.
- 25:28Speaker 1: When my career really kicked off, it started with Sisters.
- 25:32Speaker 1: So by the time I shot all the Queen's Men,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I had already film Sisters, So I was very used
- 25:38Speaker 1: to being comfortable at Tyler Perry Studios. I always say
- 25:41Speaker 1: Tyler Perry sudials for me, it's like a dolt disney
- 25:43Speaker 1: Bro because, um, it's the safest place on earth because
- 25:50Speaker 1: we tested even before we left our home states. We
- 25:53Speaker 1: had to quarantine and test, and we had another test
- 25:56Speaker 1: before we got on the plane, twenty piles before then
- 25:59Speaker 1: we had another test soon as we got there. Um.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Then we were sequestered to our own separate areas, and
- 26:04Speaker 1: then we tested litterally, I think every two to four days,
- 26:08Speaker 1: and now it's even testing more frequently, just because you
- 26:11Speaker 1: know the various um delta variants and all that stuff,
- 26:14Speaker 1: so you feel completely safe. And we were not allowed
- 26:17Speaker 1: to be outside of the actual studio property, so we
- 26:23Speaker 1: had everything you could have war, I mean food trucks.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Tyler was even generous enough to give us after wrapping.
- 26:31Speaker 1: It was only after wrapping for two hours still alcohol
- 26:34Speaker 1: truck um and catering on catering grocery stores. So it
- 26:39Speaker 1: was very comfortable. Like nobody felt any kind of There
- 26:44Speaker 1: was no point, at no point where you scared or
- 26:46Speaker 1: felt you were at risk. So it was incredible. I personally,
- 26:49Speaker 1: I like that way. I don't want to come back
- 26:52Speaker 1: to the way that well, you know, the thing about
- 26:55Speaker 1: watching your character, watching you develop and uh, first of all,
- 26:59Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna do my duty, you know, and tell
- 27:02Speaker 1: im I'm anna feature on my Motivational Monday segment because
- 27:05Speaker 1: your story is a as a dancer and h ballet
- 27:09Speaker 1: training with Mr Copeland U the famous ballet living based
- 27:13Speaker 1: out of New York, you know, being able to share
- 27:15Speaker 1: the state the lime lights already have been there. But
- 27:17Speaker 1: I want to just talk about making that transition because
- 27:20Speaker 1: sometimes we get focused in this is what I do,
- 27:22Speaker 1: and then somebody comes along into your life and say,
- 27:24Speaker 1: you know you can do more, and then but sometimes
- 27:27Speaker 1: that doubt comes into our lives and say why are
- 27:29Speaker 1: you are well? Because that means that you're you're going
- 27:32Speaker 1: into an unknown and that's what stops people in the unknown. Part. Now,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Debbie Allen came into your life and push you talk
- 27:40Speaker 1: about that, and so people who are listening and watching
- 27:42Speaker 1: the show, can I understand the value of people seeing
- 27:45Speaker 1: a person's greatness and then asking them to act on it. Yeah. So, um,
- 27:53Speaker 1: some years ago when I um, when I used to
- 27:56Speaker 1: ask a rid carry Mrs Allen was the artistic director
- 28:01Speaker 1: and choreographer and even before that I had does I
- 28:04Speaker 1: work with her? And she slipped at me and she said, honey,
- 28:08Speaker 1: you're an actor. I'm gonna make you an actor. And
- 28:10Speaker 1: I said, now, you're not. That's not me. She said, honey,
- 28:13Speaker 1: you don't know who you are yet, and she was
- 28:15Speaker 1: so right, and she literally from the beginning, she took
- 28:19Speaker 1: me under her wing and she gave me parts in
- 28:22Speaker 1: her stage plase, and it was it became this kind
- 28:26Speaker 1: of like, oh, this is cool. But then with the
- 28:30Speaker 1: training and everything like that, I started to find this
- 28:34Speaker 1: kind of I'll be honest, it became an obsession for me.
- 28:38Speaker 1: And sometimes I always put God first, and that's just me.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Sometimes you have to surrender to what you think you
- 28:46Speaker 1: want and follow what will God has for you in
- 28:51Speaker 1: your life. And I always say when I pray, specifics
- 28:55Speaker 1: matter because I remember being a kid and I was like,
- 28:58Speaker 1: I want to be on TV. I want to be
- 29:00Speaker 1: a star, I want to do it up and actually
- 29:03Speaker 1: I wanted to sing. But when I prayed, I prayed,
- 29:06Speaker 1: I said, I want to be on TV and that
- 29:10Speaker 1: was my destiny. And I felt like God gave me
- 29:13Speaker 1: an angel in Debbie Ellen to notice what was already
- 29:18Speaker 1: going to be my destiny down the line and walk
- 29:21Speaker 1: fully in purpose. And I'm a true believer of that,
- 29:24Speaker 1: and it is the best feeling ever. I never personally
- 29:28Speaker 1: planned to be an actor, but I'm so glad that
- 29:33Speaker 1: I was able to acquiesce to the prayer for my
- 29:35Speaker 1: life and and and after I acquiesce, I'm not gonna
- 29:40Speaker 1: say it was easy because there's a lot of nose.
- 29:42Speaker 1: There's a lot of rejection, there's a lot of this.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Like again, nothing worth happening is easy. Nobody makes it overnight.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I was watching an interview with DENZELI said, it is
- 29:52Speaker 1: being over that success and it took and it took
- 29:55Speaker 1: me about twit. So um again, sometimes you gotta listen.
- 30:05Speaker 1: You gotta listen when you do listen, keep doing. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 1: I hope you all of you listening to me. Man. Great,
- 30:12Speaker 1: you're super talented, you're handsome, you're humble. It comes across
- 30:17Speaker 1: on the screen and uh, you gotta probably out there. Man.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I was, you know, thoroughly entertained. And you know, I'm
- 30:25Speaker 1: just so happy that television is allowed with the streaming
- 30:28Speaker 1: platforms allowed for black content to be shown like this.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Because we was under the old format, great content like
- 30:34Speaker 1: this would not be seen because we was under streaming
- 30:37Speaker 1: allows this format to come out, you know, all the
- 30:39Speaker 1: Queen's men, you know my man Sky investor Black is
- 30:44Speaker 1: a star, Okay, And ten episodes I watched one after
- 30:49Speaker 1: the other. After that, I laughed. I was entertained. I
- 30:52Speaker 1: was like, man, this is really really good. And and
- 30:54Speaker 1: thank you man for coming on money for good conversations.
- 30:57Speaker 1: So thank you for having me now. I'm so grateful.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I am so grateful for your time because I know,
- 31:01Speaker 1: you know, everybody has something to do today, So thank
- 31:04Speaker 1: you for the morning to talk to you. I appreciate it.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Oh no, it was worth it because I, like I said, man,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I would like said, I always a joy what I do, man,
- 31:11Speaker 1: But I always have a good time. My energy level
- 31:12Speaker 1: goes up when I see young talent like you that
- 31:15Speaker 1: that are involved in really really cool project. I think
- 31:18Speaker 1: that a groundbreaking I think this is a groundbreaking series
- 31:21Speaker 1: and to see the guys and definitely I'm gonna reach
- 31:23Speaker 1: out to get more of them on my show so
- 31:25Speaker 1: I can have promote this. I wanted renew. That's my goal.

- 34:06Speaker 1: through hard work and sacrifice. Last year I was parking cars.
- 34:11Speaker 1: How was vallet parking cars from seven pm at night
- 34:13Speaker 1: to in the morning so I could audition in the
- 34:16Speaker 1: daytime to be able to be blessed enough to get
- 34:18Speaker 1: a role that actually um has impacted people like I've
- 34:24Speaker 1: forgotten countless d M say Hey, your story and your
- 34:27Speaker 1: struggle has inspired me. Your character inspires me because going
- 34:31Speaker 1: back to what you said, anything you want, you can
- 34:34Speaker 1: do it, but it requires a level of work and sacrifice.

- 34:52Speaker 1: stop reading other people's success stories and start writing your own.
- 34:55Speaker 1: People always talk about gifts and passion. If you have
- 34:58Speaker 1: a gift, lead with your gift and don't let your age, friends, family,
- 35:01Speaker 1: or coworkers stop you from planning or living your dreams.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I interview celebrities, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and industry decision makers on
- 35:08Speaker 1: my show all the time. My guest is Dr Tony Evans.

- 35:18Speaker 1: how about them cowboys? Found and president of the Urban
- 35:21Speaker 1: Alternative and author of a one hundred books, booklets and
- 35:25Speaker 1: Bible Stars. He's one of the first African American to
- 35:27Speaker 1: earn a doctorate of the Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary,
- 35:31Speaker 1: and he has become one of the both twelve most
- 35:33Speaker 1: effective preachers in the English speaking World by Baylor University.
- 35:38Speaker 1: DC Evins holds the honor of writing and publishing their
- 35:41Speaker 1: first full Bible commentary and study by African American. That's impressive.

- 36:14Speaker 1: the very first time I've had his family on the show,
- 36:16Speaker 1: and we're gonna talk about that. Dr Tony Evans. How
- 36:19Speaker 1: you doing, sir, Hello, We're gonna be with you. Well.
- 36:22Speaker 1: The beauty of having you on your show because I
- 36:25Speaker 1: always try to do a little research first. One later,
- 36:26Speaker 1: everybody know, we're gonna talk about Journey with Jesus. I
- 36:30Speaker 1: I I called that a visual sermon, sir. That's what
- 36:35Speaker 1: was my takeaway. It is. It's the opening and I'm
- 36:39Speaker 1: not gonna give away the details of the of the documentary,
- 36:43Speaker 1: but the but I can't share the emotion of the
- 36:46Speaker 1: documentary Journey with Jesus is that, you know, like I said,
- 36:51Speaker 1: you know I was I'm born and raised in Houston, Texas.
- 36:53Speaker 1: And when I first moved to New York, I you know,
- 36:57Speaker 1: I knew about Broadway, I knew about oh, the Statue
- 37:00Speaker 1: of Liberty. When I saw it, it had an emotion
- 37:03Speaker 1: to me. When I saw the Empire State Building, it
- 37:06Speaker 1: had an emotion to me. When I moved to Los
- 37:09Speaker 1: Angeles and I walked down and so the Chinese Man Theater,
- 37:12Speaker 1: and so the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and then the
- 37:15Speaker 1: Santa Monica Beaches, it is so resonated in my life
- 37:19Speaker 1: that it had an emotional pool to me, and I
- 37:21Speaker 1: went wow. I didn't realize how much it had an
- 37:24Speaker 1: effect on me. And I only say that because being
- 37:28Speaker 1: a man who preaches the word of God and then
- 37:30Speaker 1: it shares these blessings and come in some words, that
- 37:33Speaker 1: allows us to understand these blessings by to your teachings.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Going to Israel has to have an amazing emotional pool
- 37:43Speaker 1: to you correct, well, absolutely. In fact, what we're trying
- 37:47Speaker 1: to do is get people to join me and the
- 37:49Speaker 1: experience that I and my family had when we were there.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I mean, you're watching the Bible come off the page
- 37:58Speaker 1: and become a living experience in your life. It's one
- 38:01Speaker 1: thing to know about the Lord, it's another thing to
- 38:03Speaker 1: experience the Lord. And this this documentary was designed to
- 38:08Speaker 1: bring people into a visual experience of the Lord, where
- 38:13Speaker 1: he did what he did, where he lived, where he
- 38:16Speaker 1: demonstrated his glory, where he did his miracles, where he
- 38:19Speaker 1: taught his lessons, so that you are entering into the
- 38:22Speaker 1: moment and it becomes a dynamic reality rather than a
- 38:28Speaker 1: theoretical informational session. Well, you know, it's like one of
- 38:32Speaker 1: my favorite shows of TV is Aerial America. You know
- 38:35Speaker 1: that show that shows the world from a visual uh
- 38:39Speaker 1: from the ten thousand square feet high in the air.
- 38:42Speaker 1: You look down, you get a perspective of the power
- 38:46Speaker 1: of of of the world that we don't appreciate sometimes.
- 38:50Speaker 1: And when I when from the very opening. I went wow,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I felt a strong presence to this series. What was
- 38:57Speaker 1: what was the story you was trying to tell visually?
- 39:00Speaker 1: Dr Tony Evans with Journey with Jesus, Because there are
- 39:02Speaker 1: two stories. There's an oral story, but the visual story
- 39:06Speaker 1: I think play of important role to tell us about that. Well,
- 39:10Speaker 1: what we tried to do is combine the sites with
- 39:13Speaker 1: the sound. You know, when you look at the TV,
- 39:15Speaker 1: you don't just want to hear the hear the sound.
- 39:17Speaker 1: You want to picture, but you don't want to picture
- 39:20Speaker 1: without the sounds. We want to site and sound. So
- 39:23Speaker 1: what we tried to do with show where Jesus was
- 39:27Speaker 1: what happened there give you the truth of scripture, while
- 39:31Speaker 1: we gave you the visual context of where that particular
- 39:35Speaker 1: passage or that particular truth took place. So you're seeing
- 39:39Speaker 1: what you're hearing and not just hearing what you're hearing.
- 39:42Speaker 1: And so we did that with each of the sites.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Many people have never been to Israel, uh and you
- 39:48Speaker 1: can't go right now very easily, and so this way
- 39:51Speaker 1: they can, they can go onto Jesus Journey and join us.
- 39:54Speaker 1: As we went on to Jesus Journey, we talked about
- 39:56Speaker 1: seven people with us who went on the journey with us.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I thought was, but why limit this the seven hundred?
- 40:02Speaker 1: Why don't we film it so people who can't go
- 40:05Speaker 1: Heaven gone, or need to need to go again can
- 40:08Speaker 1: can join the Evans clan in this journey. And so
- 40:12Speaker 1: it was an exciting thing to be able to give
- 40:14Speaker 1: people what we were seeing and let them see it
- 40:17Speaker 1: at the same time we were seeing it. Well, you know,
- 40:20Speaker 1: let's talk about that whole journey, because it's an emotion.
- 40:23Speaker 1: It was. It was funny when I watched you always
- 40:25Speaker 1: looked like you were stepping down into something. You was
- 40:27Speaker 1: always stepping down, you know. Is that the way just
- 40:30Speaker 1: the natural the natural architect or high everything is laid
- 40:33Speaker 1: out because you was always going down, down, stepping down
- 40:37Speaker 1: into into some hollow chamber until some some room or
- 40:40Speaker 1: some some some space. So talk about that whole architecture.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Dr Tony Evans. Well, of course you have a lot
- 40:47Speaker 1: of rolling areas in the in the Holy Land, and
- 40:51Speaker 1: then of course in many places they built monuments to
- 40:57Speaker 1: what happened or what is believed to have happened on
- 40:59Speaker 1: Mathotis to the site, and then giving a space for
- 41:02Speaker 1: people to gather, they created steps for you to enter
- 41:06Speaker 1: into that area because over time things have been uh,
- 41:10Speaker 1: things have been built up. So this allows you to
- 41:13Speaker 1: to to to flow with the topolophy in the land
- 41:17Speaker 1: while at the very same time being in a place
- 41:20Speaker 1: where you can gather large groups of people to hear
- 41:23Speaker 1: the teaching that's taking place, uh relative to the site
- 41:27Speaker 1: and location in which you are focusing on. How many
- 41:30Speaker 1: times have you been there? Because I, let's heard Priscilla
- 41:32Speaker 1: said one other time you win and when you first
- 41:35Speaker 1: day you came back and just told the family your
- 41:38Speaker 1: experience and all that time. How many times have you
- 41:40Speaker 1: been to Israel? Dr Tony Evans, I've been there about
- 41:42Speaker 1: five times. We uh we lead a group on a
- 41:45Speaker 1: semi regular base history throughout National Ministry, the Urban Alternative
- 41:49Speaker 1: and uh people who want to go with us and
- 41:51Speaker 1: hear the teachings and see the sites and so so yeah,
- 41:54Speaker 1: this was but each time is a fresh experience and
- 41:58Speaker 1: each time there is new inspiration that comes because you
- 42:03Speaker 1: are you, you know, you in the spot there. Well
- 42:09Speaker 1: you know I know it. You know that, Like I
- 42:11Speaker 1: said that when I when I think about it, I
- 42:13Speaker 1: remember when I was in New York, I was going
- 42:16Speaker 1: up to be a stand up comedian, and like I came,
- 42:18Speaker 1: I was. I came out of the subway of forty
- 42:21Speaker 1: second and I came out of that subway knowing this
- 42:24Speaker 1: is what I wanted to be, knowing this the place
- 42:27Speaker 1: I wanted. I just felt power. I felt this rush
- 42:30Speaker 1: of emotion that Wow, I'm actually here and I'm fulfilling
- 42:34Speaker 1: my dreams. And so going to Israel for the very
- 42:36Speaker 1: first time for you had to be fulfilling the dream
- 42:39Speaker 1: as well. Dr Tony Evans talk to us about that
- 42:41Speaker 1: very first time because each time you your eyes see more,
- 42:46Speaker 1: you know, because things slow down. But that first time
- 42:49Speaker 1: it's all emotion, and then you when you get back,
- 42:51Speaker 1: you start recollecting and say, I wish I would have
- 42:53Speaker 1: done this. Talk about that first time you'll visit to Israel. Well,
- 42:59Speaker 1: the first time is exciting anticipation because you know where
- 43:05Speaker 1: you're going, but you don't know all that you're gonna see,
- 43:08Speaker 1: and you don't know how it will affect you. But
- 43:12Speaker 1: you know because you've never been that it is something
- 43:15Speaker 1: to look forward to. So there's great anticipation that first time.
- 43:20Speaker 1: So you kind of get hit with a while bang
- 43:23Speaker 1: you know, you you know, everything becomes an aha moment.
- 43:26Speaker 1: You're in the first experience. But it's like studying the Bible.
- 43:30Speaker 1: When you go back to the passage that you've preached before,
- 43:34Speaker 1: new things emerged that you didn't see the first time
- 43:37Speaker 1: you studied it or preached from it. So the first
- 43:40Speaker 1: time I visited Israel bam. But now every time afterwards,
- 43:44Speaker 1: I'm trying to go deeper, see more experience, more so
- 43:48Speaker 1: that I can build on top of that first time
- 43:51Speaker 1: layers of excitement about who Jesus is, what he did,
- 43:55Speaker 1: and what he still can do. Right, You're interesting talking
- 43:58Speaker 1: about because you know, when you talk about God, you
- 44:00Speaker 1: talk about Jeez, you talk about anything that's historical or biblical.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Television and movies have their own versions of it, and
- 44:08Speaker 1: so their own versions can be big, overwhelming, and so
- 44:14Speaker 1: like I remember when I went to France and I
- 44:16Speaker 1: went to London and I started, I said, that's not
- 44:18Speaker 1: that big. How many people didn't get in this little
- 44:21Speaker 1: small area? Did any of the the ay that the
- 44:24Speaker 1: dimensions of the size where events were held, uh become
- 44:29Speaker 1: understated When you actually was there live you went, Wow,
- 44:32Speaker 1: this is not what I expected, but you still were
- 44:35Speaker 1: inspired by it. Well, yeah, number that first of all,
- 44:38Speaker 1: the land of Israel is very compact. People are living
- 44:42Speaker 1: very close together, you know. You know, you you think
- 44:46Speaker 1: you're gonna be driving a long way and you're going
- 44:48Speaker 1: across the street and you're a whole another you know. Uh. So,
- 44:54Speaker 1: so that is a lot of it. Some places of
- 44:56Speaker 1: further than others, but a lot of it's come back.
- 44:58Speaker 1: So that that caught my attention. And then when you
- 45:01Speaker 1: look at the sites, for example, when we went to
- 45:04Speaker 1: Peter's house, because they are the architecture, uh and the
- 45:10Speaker 1: archaeological digs came to Peter's Peter's home and they were
- 45:14Speaker 1: able to identify it. And so when you when you
- 45:17Speaker 1: went there and you saw what what a house structure
- 45:20Speaker 1: would look like back then it you know, and you
- 45:23Speaker 1: didn't have a picture of that before. It just said
- 45:26Speaker 1: the Bible just tells you Peter's house. They don't describe
- 45:28Speaker 1: Peters house. So then you get to see it and
- 45:31Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it shows you how different our
- 45:34Speaker 1: lives are the day from what they were experiencing back
- 45:38Speaker 1: two thousand years ago. So yes, you you you you
- 45:41Speaker 1: get a lot of surprises. But because of the inspiration
- 45:46Speaker 1: tied to the surprise, you are you are invigorated a
- 45:51Speaker 1: fresh each time. You know. Interesting thing. I come from Houston, Texas,
- 45:55Speaker 1: like I said earlier, born in the inner city. You know,
- 45:58Speaker 1: a fear for you know. So six sisters, two brothers.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Father was a truck driver, a third grade education. Mom
- 46:04Speaker 1: graduated from high school. So well, we didn't, but they
- 46:08Speaker 1: were very important in my life because they made sure
- 46:11Speaker 1: we stayed focused and uh and also enable us to
- 46:14Speaker 1: live the life that they felt that we could if
- 46:17Speaker 1: they if they, if we all did the right things.
- 46:19Speaker 1: And in this and in this visual sermon, I like
- 46:22Speaker 1: to call it journey, the journey with Jesus because it's
- 46:25Speaker 1: so beautiful and it and you get to hear Dr
- 46:27Speaker 1: Tony Evans preach, You get to hear from his family,
- 46:31Speaker 1: his amazing the children, and see his wife. You know
- 46:34Speaker 1: that it is too Daddy and that's the nickname for
- 46:37Speaker 1: your father in Baltimore. And it talks about how early
- 46:42Speaker 1: on things can be shaped and that shape can lead
- 46:47Speaker 1: to a different paths. I would say we live a
- 46:49Speaker 1: fork and a roll, and everybody lives in the fork.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I always say that to myself. Then we all lives
- 46:53Speaker 1: in the fark and a world left the right because
- 46:54Speaker 1: You can never just stay down in the middle. You
- 46:56Speaker 1: have to make a decision. And your father made the
- 46:58Speaker 1: decision for you. Talked about how that impacted you because
- 47:02Speaker 1: it's discussed in Journey with Jesus, and I'm sure it's
- 47:06Speaker 1: relatable to a lot of people who would see for
- 47:08Speaker 1: the very first time. Well, yeah, my father came to
- 47:12Speaker 1: faith when he was about thirty years old, and and
- 47:16Speaker 1: that forever changed the trajectory of our home. He brought
- 47:21Speaker 1: he brought Jesus Christ and every element of our family. It,
- 47:26Speaker 1: I mean, our family was turned inside out. He transferred
- 47:29Speaker 1: that faith to his children, to to my mother first
- 47:32Speaker 1: and then to his children. We adopted that faith as
- 47:35Speaker 1: our own. That gave us a foundation as a family
- 47:38Speaker 1: that was fraying before then that was now being solidified
- 47:42Speaker 1: and becoming solid. And so now his grandchildren, his great grandchildren,
- 47:48Speaker 1: and now his great great grandchildren have seen that faith
- 47:52Speaker 1: transferred to them. And it shows our one man who
- 47:56Speaker 1: makes the right commitment as a legacy that can last
- 48:00Speaker 1: hundreds of years. And so we hope to just keep
- 48:03Speaker 1: that legacy rolling and going and uh. And that's what
- 48:06Speaker 1: we need, particularly from men today in our culture, because
- 48:10Speaker 1: too many families don't have a legacy to build on,
- 48:14Speaker 1: and that is because of the absentee is too many fathers.
- 48:16Speaker 1: So I have the privilege of having a father grounded
- 48:19Speaker 1: in faith and who was not ashamed to transfer. We'll
- 48:22Speaker 1: be right back with more money making conversation with the
- 48:24Speaker 1: founder and pastor of Oak Clip Bible Fellowship, Dr Tony Evan.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Adoption of teams from foster care is a topic not
- 48:32Speaker 1: enough people know about, and we're here to change that.
- 48:34Speaker 1: I'm April Denuit, the host of the new podcast Navigating Adoption,

- 49:39Speaker 1: wacome mile in my shoes. Shoes. We've all felt left out,
- 49:45Speaker 1: and for some that feeling lasts more than a moment.

- 49:51Speaker 1: Dot org brought to you by the AD Council. Welcome
- 49:55Speaker 1: milet in machines. This is Roshan McDonald. Welcome back to
- 50:01Speaker 1: money making conversations. As I continue my conversation with founder
- 50:04Speaker 1: and Pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, Dr Tony Evidence,
- 50:08Speaker 1: Let's let's talk about that legacy. You know, because two
- 50:11Speaker 1: of your children, you know, I've had the privilege of
- 50:14Speaker 1: interviewing your son, Anthony Evans Junior, tremendous singer performed on
- 50:20Speaker 1: the Voice. And Priscilla Shire, you know she was I
- 50:24Speaker 1: interviewed when she was doing the movie The Overcomer. Now
- 50:27Speaker 1: you know, very good actress, great motivational speaker, and it
- 50:31Speaker 1: was it was funny because hey, Loupe, Loupe, I love it.
- 50:39Speaker 1: I love it. I love it and uh and and
- 50:42Speaker 1: and so the beauty of that because that was an
- 50:45Speaker 1: emotional moment because I saw the movie and uh and
- 50:47Speaker 1: role in it, and and I realized that you guys
- 50:50Speaker 1: moved forward with as a family. But I wanted to
- 50:53Speaker 1: bring that up because relationships make people do things. And
- 50:59Speaker 1: it's a very signior thinking matter my having a relationship,
- 51:01Speaker 1: whether it's interviewed or Anthony, we relate through food. And
- 51:05Speaker 1: Loopy's restaurant was our bond and and we laugh about it.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I brought it to you off are you go, yes, Loupe, Loope,
- 51:12Speaker 1: that's our place. That is what life is about, bonding
- 51:15Speaker 1: people together. That's what the ministry is about, bonding people
- 51:19Speaker 1: together and making things relatable. Is am I correct? Oh? Absolutely? Uh.
- 51:23Speaker 1: One of the goals of the of doing the film
- 51:27Speaker 1: was not only to connect us closer with the Lord,
- 51:29Speaker 1: but to connect us people closer with each other. And
- 51:32Speaker 1: family is the first place of connectivity. And so families
- 51:36Speaker 1: can have a shared faith, they can have a shared anchor,
- 51:39Speaker 1: and when that anchor is lost and the frame starts,
- 51:43Speaker 1: then the repercussions of a negative legacy begins to take
- 51:47Speaker 1: place rather than a positive legacy. So if this film
- 51:50Speaker 1: can be used to bring people strengthen their faith but
- 51:53Speaker 1: strengthen their connectivity around their faith, then becomes a double
- 51:57Speaker 1: win all the way around. Absolutely absolutely, And you know,
- 52:01Speaker 1: you know for people who see his own podcast and
- 52:04Speaker 1: also played out on YouTube and visual, you know, Priscilla
- 52:07Speaker 1: came into the picture. You know, she did the same
- 52:10Speaker 1: thing and the documentary she walks on stage. No, she
- 52:13Speaker 1: has no business being on the stage. So she used
- 52:15Speaker 1: to just popping in and in and feed with the
- 52:18Speaker 1: float of everything. So but that makes all right, Dr Tony,
- 52:23Speaker 1: That's how she rolls, right. Well, now she's featured a
- 52:28Speaker 1: lot from a start, almost like a co host in
- 52:30Speaker 1: some ways, Priscilla is in this process. Why was that
- 52:33Speaker 1: important to have her voice because it allowed her to
- 52:37Speaker 1: pull certain emotions, pull certain answers out of it, especially
- 52:42Speaker 1: uh certain areas that you guys were speaking talking about
- 52:45Speaker 1: her role in this particular documentary, Journey with Jesus, which
- 52:48Speaker 1: was filmed in Israel. Well, her role was to walk
- 52:53Speaker 1: with me because we didn't want to have that family connectivity.
- 52:57Speaker 1: We wanted this not to be me, but we wanted
- 52:59Speaker 1: to show relationally. I mean, my late wife was there.
- 53:03Speaker 1: You know, Anthony did the music, So there was a
- 53:07Speaker 1: bonding that took place, and so we wanted to show
- 53:10Speaker 1: pieces of that as part of the documentary so that
- 53:13Speaker 1: people would see our faith is personal, but it should
- 53:16Speaker 1: be shared on a familial level. And so uh so
- 53:21Speaker 1: she likes to talk. No, no, you don't like she
- 53:27Speaker 1: got it from doc. I got it from your doc.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Come on, now, I got it from you. Apple doesn't
- 53:32Speaker 1: fall from from the tree. What can we say? I like,
- 53:34Speaker 1: I say, it's a beautiful thing. Now, this whole process,
- 53:37Speaker 1: and I just want to be um. I wanted to
- 53:40Speaker 1: have fun with this interview. I wanted to be how
- 53:43Speaker 1: he's gonna be an honest intervise that's how you roll.
- 53:45Speaker 1: But more importantly, you get to see if the Bible
- 53:48Speaker 1: come to life. I can am I saying that accurately
- 53:52Speaker 1: about this journey. The Bible is not just a word
- 53:56Speaker 1: about God. It is the voice of God in print.
- 53:59Speaker 1: But whenever the verbal can become visual, sever you can
- 54:03Speaker 1: see what you're learning, it then establishes itself in your
- 54:08Speaker 1: mind and heart. At a deeper level. So we wanted
- 54:11Speaker 1: to help the Bible to become alive in the experience
- 54:15Speaker 1: of the of the reader by giving them a visual
- 54:19Speaker 1: to go alongside with the verbal. I'm gonna ask you
- 54:23Speaker 1: a question. Maybe maybe it is. It's a thing about
- 54:27Speaker 1: finding yourself. You know, Like I always tell people are
- 54:30Speaker 1: all my life, Dr Tony Evans. People always said I
- 54:33Speaker 1: was special, I was unique. I was and I really
- 54:36Speaker 1: didn't understand what they was talking about that And I
- 54:38Speaker 1: always tell people went into my authorities that I accepted,
- 54:41Speaker 1: I accepted responsibilities of being who I was. For Sean
- 54:44Speaker 1: McDonald that things that would happen if we wasn't luck.
- 54:47Speaker 1: It was tied to hard work. It was tied to,
- 54:49Speaker 1: you know, understanding the value of my responsibilities. I found
- 54:54Speaker 1: out who I was and I started to live my life.
- 54:57Speaker 1: Can you answer this question, this is the question that
- 54:59Speaker 1: can be ansid. What do you think Jesus realized he
- 55:03Speaker 1: was Jesus, Well, you have you have the dynamic of
- 55:08Speaker 1: what we call it theology, the hypostatic union, which is
- 55:12Speaker 1: two natures in one person, unmixed forever. So Jesus went
- 55:17Speaker 1: through the natural growth. The Bible says he grew in
- 55:20Speaker 1: statue and grew in learning. So that was the human
- 55:25Speaker 1: growth of his humanity like any child would have, but
- 55:29Speaker 1: it was married to deity. So you have two things
- 55:34Speaker 1: always happening at the same time in the life of Jesus.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Natural humanity perfectly developing, while deity is forever formed. So
- 55:46Speaker 1: both are happening at the same time. Because his nature
- 55:49Speaker 1: has never got mixed. They stayed distinct, but within the
- 55:53Speaker 1: same person. Wow, deepo in there you you go. Indeed, Well,
- 56:00Speaker 1: all I'm saying is that when you're going the Journey
- 56:01Speaker 1: with Jesus, well this documentary, they're gonna be in the
- 56:04Speaker 1: theater No. Fifteen through seventeen, They're gonna be a whole
- 56:07Speaker 1: lot of people talking at that theater thinking deep sir,
- 56:09Speaker 1: because I'm ibould tell you, never tell you why, because
- 56:13Speaker 1: you know, I the popularity of my show is that
- 56:16Speaker 1: I just do real, natural interviews. I have no agenda.
- 56:19Speaker 1: I'm learning. I asked questions. I think that everybody wants
- 56:22Speaker 1: to ask questions when they sit down and talk to you,
- 56:25Speaker 1: just like I said when when the Jesus realized he
- 56:27Speaker 1: was Jesus. Because it's through life, you know, we always
- 56:29Speaker 1: try to come to a point where we have to
- 56:31Speaker 1: accept the responsibility for what we what we are. And
- 56:35Speaker 1: when you talk about the Bible, you're talking about good news,
- 56:39Speaker 1: and then we talk about gospel, and then we talked
- 56:41Speaker 1: about good news. So what is good news and what
- 56:44Speaker 1: is gospel? Well, the good news for the world gospel
- 56:50Speaker 1: Greek word is uh hugh on gillian, which means good news,
- 56:54Speaker 1: and the gospel is good news against the backdrop of
- 56:57Speaker 1: bad news. The bad news is need to appreciate the
- 57:00Speaker 1: good news, you gotta to understand the bad news. The
- 57:03Speaker 1: bad news is that sinful men are separated from a
- 57:06Speaker 1: holy God. And all mankind were sinful at various expressions
- 57:11Speaker 1: of it. But we all have fallen short of God's
- 57:14Speaker 1: standard of perfection. That's the bad news. It's really bad
- 57:17Speaker 1: news because God can't accept imperfection in his presence. So
- 57:22Speaker 1: that makes the good news awesome news because God has
- 57:26Speaker 1: come up with a way to grant us a credit
- 57:30Speaker 1: report of perfection. What happens when the person comes to Christ.
- 57:35Speaker 1: They get to piggyback on Jesus's credit report and says,
- 57:38Speaker 1: Jesus's credit report is perfect credit. When you accept Jesus,
- 57:42Speaker 1: you get a perfect credit score. Even though you and
- 57:45Speaker 1: I are imperfect, because God allows the righteousness of Christ
- 57:49Speaker 1: to be transferred to us. And that makes good news,
- 57:52Speaker 1: awesome news for all who are willing to respond to well,
- 57:55Speaker 1: you know, the beauty of family. And I will bringing
- 57:59Speaker 1: this up a because I, you know, Atlanta have a
- 58:01Speaker 1: business and I have a one daughter. She goes to
- 58:03Speaker 1: the University of Houston and she was in turning this
- 58:06Speaker 1: summer and I was every day she walked in and
- 58:11Speaker 1: went home where I was happy. I was proud because
- 58:13Speaker 1: she was. You know, you want to create legacies. You
- 58:16Speaker 1: want to want to your children to live the life
- 58:19Speaker 1: and respect the things that you're doing. To have your
- 58:22Speaker 1: children work on this project. Just just slow it down
- 58:25Speaker 1: and just talk about how that reacted to you now
- 58:30Speaker 1: that your wife and their mother's gone, and how it
- 58:34Speaker 1: was important that they was they were a part of
- 58:36Speaker 1: We talked about Priscilla being the co host and Anthony
- 58:39Speaker 1: he's doing the music, but the fact that they were
- 58:42Speaker 1: there were important on this journey. Talk about well, you know,
- 58:46Speaker 1: family is a big deal. It's a big deal in
- 58:48Speaker 1: the Bible, it's a big deal in history, and it's
- 58:50Speaker 1: a big deal for culture. Uh, you know, whoever owns.
- 58:54Speaker 1: The family owns the future. The saga of a nation
- 58:57Speaker 1: is the saga of his family's written large. You down
- 59:00Speaker 1: the family, you destroyed the society. So the fact that
- 59:04Speaker 1: we could do this as a family allowed us to
- 59:07Speaker 1: understore visually how critical family is to the legacy of faith.
- 59:13Speaker 1: We didn't just want to preach it and say it.
- 59:15Speaker 1: We wanted people to see it. So it's very critical. Well,
- 59:18Speaker 1: you know, Jesus walked on water. You were preaching on water. Uh.
- 59:23Speaker 1: You you were preaching on and uh and just being creative.
- 59:30Speaker 1: The whole process of being able to pull that together.
- 59:33Speaker 1: You know, you guys are producers. You have uh people
- 59:37Speaker 1: out there that just to make sure everybody got that experience,
- 59:40Speaker 1: because like you said, it was seven d eight hundred
- 59:42Speaker 1: people who came on this journey with you guys, and
- 59:44Speaker 1: you got to do uh sermons and certain very historical
- 59:48Speaker 1: locations and things like that. Talk about that experience. And
- 59:52Speaker 1: we're talking with Dr Tony Evans Journey with Jesus documentary
- 59:56Speaker 1: and over the fifteenth to the seventeen and being selected theaters.
- 59:59Speaker 1: But more importantly, as I asked these questions with him,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I moved by the fact that the movie moved me.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: It allowed me to see things I had never seen
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: in my life. Dr Tony Evans. It allowed me to
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: slow down and appreciate my life. Dr Tony Evans. And
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: more importantly, God, you share some good news with me. Well,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: the good news, the good news of Jesus Christ is hope.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: You sir, open time and hope for eternity. That's that's
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: twice hold, you know, and we understand the hope that
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: comes in Christ in spite of the realities of circumstances.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: And when you're able to experience that yourself and then
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: bring your loved ones into that, then it creates a
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: whole new perspective of how you move in the future.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: And so much confusion today, so many pandemics today, so
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: much conflict today. People need to see some hope. And
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: so it is I hope that the journey with Jesus
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: will give people a sense that all is not lost
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: in spite of how bad things look, because what comes
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: with Jesus is a whole bunch basket full. Oh well,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: you know, first of all, I like everybody, this is
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: not a a touristy movie. Uh. This is uh, this
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: is a journey and that's a that's different terminology. And
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: but one thing that I always know that um, I
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: mean when I went to South Africa, because you always
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: have these images of black people, even black people, skinny
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: black people, flies, just just just a darkness that sits
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: over Africa. And so when you see on TV look
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: at it Israel, you think about this bombings and and
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: danger and talk about that experience because I felt a
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: sense of calm and your journey. I didn't fee any
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: I didn't sense any fear on uncertainty. But that's what
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: we get on TV. Absolutely well. You know that's what
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: makes news. You know, the all the negatives stuff, and
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: there's reality into a lot of the negative stuff. That's see,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: that's the beauty that when we journeyed with Jesus, we
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: journeyed in peace. Yes, in a country where there is
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: conflict and and uh and and and people coming at
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: each other, we were in a place of peace. So
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: guess what Jesus says. He says, uh, in me, you
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: in the world, you're gonna have tribulation. In me, you
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: will have peace because I've overcome the world. That's what
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: the journey of Jesus gives you. A whole bunch of peace.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: His new documentary explores the ministry of Christ is called
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Journey with Jesus, shot on location in Israel. A special
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: phantom event is released in theaters Noveber fifteen through the seventeen.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Dr Tony Evans as always, I enjoyed my conversation with
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: your son Anthony and Priscilla. You know I love her,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: And maybe one day we all gonna meet up at
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Lupie's Tortilla and share the free tacos and all that
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: good stuff because I love the family. Man well, I
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: appreciate that, and I just want to encourage folks. And
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: all they gotta do is going on Journey with Jesus

- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Leonard Robinson. He gave his advice for upcoming actors trying
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: to break into the film industry. Well, I was really
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: fortunate in that respect, and and I have started auditioning
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: way back in the you know, at the pilot level.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I auditioned and tested and then that didn't work out,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: and then they brought me back in for another role
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: when the when the show got picked up and I
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: didn't work out, and it brought me back in for
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: two or three morals after that before I landed the
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Royal Torre and Jackson. So I really credit he's a
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Ray apprentice for just having determination. I want to say
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: on the airport to work me into the show some
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: kind of way. But I think in short, it's you know,
