- 1:30Speaker 1: Come back. She called back. Happen you did have a
- 1:32Speaker 1: meeting because you have a big event schedule this weekend
- 1:35Speaker 1: and I'm part of it. So I want to make
- 1:37Speaker 1: sure I talked to her, because not only this weekend,
- 1:39Speaker 1: but she's gonna be and Dallas later on this month.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And guess what, Sean McDonald's going to be in Dallas.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I'm all over the world with her. She's the president
- 1:47Speaker 1: of MGPG Events and the creator and founder of the
- 1:50Speaker 1: Black Women's Expo in Chicago and now Atlanta and Dallas.
- 1:54Speaker 1: The Black Women's Exporting It is the nations longest running
- 1:57Speaker 1: empowerment exposit expo for the Frican American cosumer. My guest
- 2:01Speaker 1: has an extensive background and expertise and community outreach, creating
- 2:05Speaker 1: effective public relationship campaigns for clients and has guided her
- 2:09Speaker 1: team of professionals and produces special events specifically targeting the
- 2:13Speaker 1: African American community. Please welcome to Money Making Conversations, Mary Green,
- 2:20Speaker 1: Good morning, Good morning, Mary, thank you for calling back.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We got time. Okay you have You're based in Chicago,
- 2:31Speaker 1: correct Mary, and asy as Mary m E r R
- 2:37Speaker 1: Y Mary, because she corrected me. When I met her
- 2:41Speaker 1: the very first time in Chicago was shot his mp
- 2:43Speaker 1: R R Y. I met with her my good friend,
- 2:47Speaker 1: uh Echo Robinson, uh producer up at the V one
- 2:51Speaker 1: oh three in Chicago Radio. And uh that was the
- 2:55Speaker 1: first time we met up in Chicago. And that was
- 3:00Speaker 1: before you had, uh the Atlanta location, That was before
- 3:05Speaker 1: you had the Dallas location of Black Women's Exposed. So
- 3:09Speaker 1: tell us about that, that first meeting that we had
- 3:12Speaker 1: and division at what it was then what it is now. Well,
- 3:18Speaker 1: that very first meaning you know, we were after your
- 3:22Speaker 1: client at the time, Mr Harvey to be a part
- 3:25Speaker 1: of our show in Chicago. We are celebrating this year anniversary,
- 3:31Speaker 1: very very excited about next year being twenty five years.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Believe it in not rashan that we have been bringing
- 3:37Speaker 1: this exphibition not only to the Chicago market, but over
- 3:39Speaker 1: the last proper ten years, we've been around the country
- 3:42Speaker 1: in different markets, from Atlanta with t d J's to
- 3:46Speaker 1: UM to Detroit to Biloxi, Mississippi. So we've been around Orlando, UM.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But we started our three city tour UM this year
- 3:54Speaker 1: UM and we're very excited about Atlanta second time, and
- 3:59Speaker 1: much more excited about Dallas because our title sponsor is
- 4:03Speaker 1: now headquartered in Dallas, and so toy ye know that
- 4:06Speaker 1: is very excited about having us there as well, and
- 4:08Speaker 1: we're very excited to be there. It's important to have
- 4:10Speaker 1: those sponsors to drive these events, to keep the ticket
- 4:12Speaker 1: prices where they're at. Tell us about that. The role
- 4:15Speaker 1: of the sponsors and events like expos, well, it couldn't
- 4:19Speaker 1: be done without them. Uh. You know, people always ask,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, you've at McCormack places in Chicago, one of
- 4:24Speaker 1: the largest convention centers of the country. How are you
- 4:26Speaker 1: able to do that most most events aren't there that
- 4:29Speaker 1: African American, And be honest with you, we are the
- 4:32Speaker 1: consistent An American event that's been held that we used.
- 4:36Speaker 1: The only way you can do it because they're gonna
- 4:38Speaker 1: charge the prices they charge, is that you have you know,
- 4:41Speaker 1: each the corporate support and corporate sponsors. And over the
- 4:44Speaker 1: years we've had the you know, United Airline, States Farm,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, Walgreen, you know on the banks, you know.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So that's the only way we should We show happened
- 4:52Speaker 1: at the level that we think it should be. And
- 4:54Speaker 1: we started that from the very beginning where McCormick from
- 4:57Speaker 1: the very first show and we're still there and I'm
- 4:59Speaker 1: jasm home. It is a bad boy and they charged
- 5:03Speaker 1: bad boy prices. So we have to keep up with
- 5:09Speaker 1: that to pay for that. And you're right, the ticket slow.
- 5:14Speaker 1: It keeps the blow so that any African American business
- 5:18Speaker 1: owner that has a product of service they wanted someone
- 5:21Speaker 1: they can come to the show and do that very
- 5:23Speaker 1: very little. Okay. So I remember when we met and
- 5:26Speaker 1: I eventually used for Sean, would you like to be
- 5:28Speaker 1: a participant? I jumped in there and uh, and it
- 5:32Speaker 1: was the interesting thing about it is that because Echo
- 5:35Speaker 1: Robinson from our Heart Radio called me this year, Shan,
- 5:38Speaker 1: you're gonna do Chicago this year. And I know I
- 5:40Speaker 1: was in transition because I was launching my radio show
- 5:43Speaker 1: and everything and in Atlanta and just finding my voice.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And that was important because you know, to come to
- 5:49Speaker 1: the expo, people's it's like an enrichment. Uh. You come
- 5:54Speaker 1: and you gain information, you become mentors to individuals. And
- 5:59Speaker 1: that's why about your expo because you know a couple
- 6:01Speaker 1: of years ago when I was there with Kim Whitley,
- 6:04Speaker 1: Uh there and having a good time and uh, just
- 6:07Speaker 1: just seeing the information she was delivering. So tell me
- 6:09Speaker 1: about the Tell everybody what exactly is the Black Women's Expo. Well,
- 6:15Speaker 1: as you mentioned it it, you know, that's the line.
- 6:17Speaker 1: It is the nason w h and expected probably of
- 6:22Speaker 1: African expositions in the country, and there's a lot singled around,
- 6:25Speaker 1: but we have been around and the longest. But what
- 6:27Speaker 1: it is and we started with this event to empower
- 6:30Speaker 1: and engage in the community in Chicago. There were, as
- 6:33Speaker 1: there is now, lots of going on in the community
- 6:36Speaker 1: that's not so positive and so we wanted to not
- 6:39Speaker 1: only having an exposition where you know, African American women
- 6:42Speaker 1: and famili could come again, but we could talk about
- 6:45Speaker 1: those issues that we were dealing with. You know what
- 6:48Speaker 1: have the racial filing or you uh and and all
- 6:52Speaker 1: of these things that we were dealing with, but attunity
- 6:55Speaker 1: to talk about that, to come to some solutions, to
- 6:58Speaker 1: engage in network also fun also to know and the
- 7:02Speaker 1: entertainment and fashion shows and hand shows, but to be
- 7:06Speaker 1: an environment for us uh and a form for people
- 7:09Speaker 1: like you and I that would come and speak about
- 7:11Speaker 1: I think we need to know ourselves. That's reare to get.
- 7:14Speaker 1: That's how it started and that's where we still are
- 7:16Speaker 1: with it. I mean, we'll talk about health and wellness.
- 7:18Speaker 1: There'll be our organizations they're doing health screenings in Atlanta,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know, we'll be talking about business, your conversation and
- 7:24Speaker 1: trouble others. Uh. We'll be talking about you know, beauty,
- 7:28Speaker 1: you know black women, and we'll talk about nutrition. We'll
- 7:30Speaker 1: talk about all the things that we really need to
- 7:32Speaker 1: focus on as a community. It's really important to like
- 7:36Speaker 1: I said, when I got to invite, I just emailed
- 7:39Speaker 1: say how you doing because that's how you're doing business.
- 7:42Speaker 1: You maintained relationship shall what are you doing what do
- 7:46Speaker 1: you do. Well, I'm coming to Atlanta. I say, okay,
- 7:49Speaker 1: cool and so so it was just like refreshing a relationship.
- 7:53Speaker 1: And next day you know, I'm doing Augously eleven to
- 7:56Speaker 1: the twelve. Uh. It's gonna be at the Georgia International
- 7:58Speaker 1: Convention Center and it to Georgia, which is out by
- 8:01Speaker 1: the airport, not the one downtown, the Georgia International by
- 8:05Speaker 1: the airport. October excuse me, August tend through the ten
- 8:09Speaker 1: to I'll be there August level. I don't know why,
- 8:12Speaker 1: I'm just want to say that date. I'll be doing
- 8:16Speaker 1: Saturday one o'clock. I'll be doing money making conversations, telling
- 8:19Speaker 1: people how to make money with their brand, how to
- 8:22Speaker 1: make money with their brand. That's that's really key where
- 8:25Speaker 1: we're at in life. So so if you so, if
- 8:27Speaker 1: you're anywhere now, then in Dallas, let's go and promote Dallas.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So we've got you on the phone now Dallas, and
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'll be on the twenty five at one o'clock doing
- 8:38Speaker 1: my thing. Said they want o'clock, I'll be down there
- 8:41Speaker 1: with my crew. When I say my crew, I'll be passing.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I got my already got my little I got my
- 8:46Speaker 1: little world together. I'm changing lives at the expo. That's
- 8:48Speaker 1: what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna tell you I'm changing
- 8:50Speaker 1: lives because of the fact that people are coming there
- 8:53Speaker 1: and uh and since I've gotten this vorce, a strong
- 8:56Speaker 1: vorce and money making conversation and enriching people, and I
- 9:00Speaker 1: trying to say that I am an expert and the
- 9:03Speaker 1: only expert. I'm telling you that I'm the expert. They're
- 9:05Speaker 1: gonna be at the Black Women's Expo. Yes, you are
- 9:09Speaker 1: Saturday at one o'clock. So if you want to come
- 9:11Speaker 1: there and learn how to make money with your brand,
- 9:13Speaker 1: actually touch your sean, Actually get an autographer Rashan, Actually
- 9:16Speaker 1: take a picture of rash You be there and then
- 9:19Speaker 1: four o'clock. Regina king Her is gonna be at the
- 9:23Speaker 1: Expo in Atlanta to use our keynote speaker on Saturday.
- 9:27Speaker 1: We um, let me tell you we're overjoyed to have her.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I mean, this actress director you know, who's speaking out
- 9:32Speaker 1: about diversity and film and television, will be our keynote.
- 9:36Speaker 1: She'll be interviewed by Sharon Reads from CBS and a
- 9:40Speaker 1: CBS so on the main stage. So we're looking forward
- 9:42Speaker 1: to that. But you know long with Regina. We've got
- 9:45Speaker 1: Kim Fields and Cynthia Bailey. Kim Fields has a new
- 9:48Speaker 1: coffee line, and Cynthia Bailey has a new curse line
- 9:51Speaker 1: and you know and own network. This incredible thing has
- 9:54Speaker 1: happened in the last couple of weeks. His owner is
- 9:56Speaker 1: bringing actually three different um sacking him to. One is
- 10:04Speaker 1: a new one called my Hsha which is about UM.
- 10:08Speaker 1: He minded business and also about business. So they will
- 10:11Speaker 1: be there and the host will be there, so we're
- 10:14Speaker 1: really excited about that. There will be three people from
- 10:16Speaker 1: Greenley to show Greenley. So hold on, holdfmation, Hold on
- 10:21Speaker 1: because you got another break, girl. Don't talk fast that
- 10:24Speaker 1: you can you coming back? You can. You're acting like
- 10:27Speaker 1: you running out of time here your money made conversations. Well,

- 10:33Speaker 1: I gotta get you time on my stage to make conversations.

- 12:13Speaker 1: I'll be on stage on the eleventh at one pm
- 12:16Speaker 1: posted money Making Conversations. I'll be in a private room.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I have my slide show. I'll be doing my thing
- 12:22Speaker 1: because she invited me. Also, she invited me to Dallas.
- 12:26Speaker 1: That's always twenty fifth through twenty six. I'll be on
- 12:29Speaker 1: stage at one pm August twenty five during the money
- 12:32Speaker 1: making conversation. I'm Brandon. I'm selling. I'm selling tickets. I'm
- 12:36Speaker 1: selling tickets. Married that's my job. Might spo be doing Mary.
- 12:40Speaker 1: It's a partnership, see Mary, Mary sat Roushan. Look at
- 12:43Speaker 1: you gotta promote me now, you gotta gotta because the
- 12:48Speaker 1: thing about this is there so you know, I I
- 12:50Speaker 1: got a newsletter and when I Friday over two fans,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I wanted to send tons of clicks. I put you
- 12:57Speaker 1: on my linked in account, you know, clicks on that.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And then I say that this Friday again going out
- 13:07Speaker 1: on my newsletter another two fans nationwide, Dallas in Atlanta.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Because that's part of the partnership. That's part of how
- 13:14Speaker 1: you create your brain. That's how you grow expound on it,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know how. Because I'm first of all, I'm proud
- 13:19Speaker 1: of you, okay, because I remember before you came to Atlanta,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you said, Rashana, I think there's an opportunity for me
- 13:25Speaker 1: to bring the Black Women's Expo to Atlanta because you
- 13:28Speaker 1: asked me what you asked me. In my opinion, I said,
- 13:30Speaker 1: do it. It's right there because I was doing the
- 13:32Speaker 1: neighbor the wards and and I remember that. And so
- 13:35Speaker 1: now you're here, and uh, And like I said, I
- 13:38Speaker 1: love the convention center that you've chosen out by the
- 13:40Speaker 1: airport is modern, is very equipped. It kind of has
- 13:44Speaker 1: that flavor of the mccarmics Center in Chicago. So so
- 13:48Speaker 1: what brings you back able I that's what people told
- 13:52Speaker 1: us about, uh, instead of the other convention center. This
- 13:56Speaker 1: one was more accessible to everyone. Parking was more an extensive,
- 14:00Speaker 1: but it still has to, you know, like you said,
- 14:01Speaker 1: the right facility. So we're really glad to be there now.
- 14:06Speaker 1: The Black Women's Expo, it tackles issues topics. Will you
- 14:11Speaker 1: say that, what do you mean? You know, we in
- 14:13Speaker 1: the me to generations, you know, now, uh, we see
- 14:16Speaker 1: we see black women that are really especially in the entertainment.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I know you have Regina King being your keenage spooker,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but when you look at the Flicia Henderson, the Marl
- 14:26Speaker 1: Brocker kills, you know they able to do my knees,
- 14:29Speaker 1: you know, the Courtney Camps. These are women that are
- 14:32Speaker 1: dominating television, just a few of them and so so
- 14:37Speaker 1: so that's the the African American woman has becoming a force.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Does that coincide with the success of your expo? Exactly?
- 14:46Speaker 1: It coincat with the success of it, and those women
- 14:49Speaker 1: that are out there speaking, you know, to to spread
- 14:52Speaker 1: their voice are seeking us out as the expo and
- 14:55Speaker 1: now that we're in multiple market, I mean, we're getting
- 14:57Speaker 1: the call thinking we'd like to be a part of
- 14:59Speaker 1: this show. We've even had some folks asking us in Atlanta,
- 15:02Speaker 1: Why didn't you make us a part of this show? So, uh,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you know, people are you know what what what I
- 15:07Speaker 1: what I failed to remember is that people do their
- 15:09Speaker 1: due diligence. So they've already looked us up, they've already
- 15:14Speaker 1: gotten the recommendations and references, looked on our website. See
- 15:17Speaker 1: that we've been around a long time, twenty four years.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I mean, let's face it, and doing this and doing
- 15:22Speaker 1: it well. I mean that's the only way you can
- 15:24Speaker 1: you can hang in at that kind of period of time.
- 15:26Speaker 1: So you know, we're really you know, proud of ourselves
- 15:29Speaker 1: for keeping keeping it together that this long. Many many
- 15:32Speaker 1: shows have gone and have gone by the wayside. It's
- 15:35Speaker 1: a lot of work. I mean, I won't lie to you.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It's a lot of work. But we think it's important
- 15:39Speaker 1: because you know, people to talk about those issues that
- 15:42Speaker 1: are you know, that are happening last April and Chicago,
- 15:46Speaker 1: you know, the whole Me Too movement. So that was
- 15:48Speaker 1: our town all meeting. That was the topic and the
- 15:51Speaker 1: issue about what women are are facing in the workplace,
- 15:54Speaker 1: in the in business and you know, in film and television.
- 15:57Speaker 1: So that was our town hall a few years ago.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Racial profiling so large in Chicago, we had that was
- 16:03Speaker 1: our topic and that was our pound home where we
- 16:06Speaker 1: had a panel of people, you know, who could deal
- 16:08Speaker 1: with those issues and audience members who can ask questions
- 16:11Speaker 1: and really you know, learn more about what's going on
- 16:14Speaker 1: and what we can do about it. So yeah, that's
- 16:16Speaker 1: that's a big part of our show. You know, we
- 16:18Speaker 1: don't want people to think it this isn't a conference,
- 16:20Speaker 1: but it's definitely you know, we do fifty fifty. We've
- 16:23Speaker 1: got the you know, the seminars and workshops, and we're
- 16:26Speaker 1: going to give you information and we're also going to
- 16:28Speaker 1: give you some entertainment and some fun. It's the tenth
- 16:32Speaker 1: through the twelve, so that means that's a Friday, that's
- 16:34Speaker 1: a Saturday in the Sunday, and that each Sunday is there,
- 16:37Speaker 1: each each day a different experience that they should come
- 16:40Speaker 1: on each day or focus on that. In Chicago, people
- 16:45Speaker 1: come every day or at least twice during the weekend
- 16:48Speaker 1: because there is something different every day. We don't repeat
- 16:51Speaker 1: necessarily unless there's a session that is the outstanding that
- 16:54Speaker 1: will have on multiple days. Um. But I'll give you
- 16:57Speaker 1: an example, like Score Atlanta is doing a couple of
- 17:00Speaker 1: s on business resources, and then they're coming back the
- 17:02Speaker 1: next day and doing something on how to maximize your
- 17:05Speaker 1: business with social media. So you know that organization maybe
- 17:07Speaker 1: there twice, but the topics are different every day. Um,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but it is a different experience. I mean where you've
