- 2:00Speaker 1: Marriage hunt Field. There are the power couple Kimmy Scott
- 2:03Speaker 1: and Maurice Scott. They're part of Owns Real Drama Weekend.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Kimmy Scott is an entrepreneur, real estate agent, a registered
- 2:09Speaker 1: nurse by trade who received both our undergraduate and graduate
- 2:12Speaker 1: degrees from the University of Alabama and Huntsville. She's also
- 2:15Speaker 1: a member of Delta Sigma, Thetum and as a passion
- 2:19Speaker 1: for cooking. Maury Scott is a consumer law attorney, real
- 2:23Speaker 1: estate investor, entrepreneur. He is the law firm United Legal.
- 2:27Speaker 1: He is the owner of Credit one U s A.
- 2:29Speaker 1: He's the older brother of mar Saul Scott, who I've
- 2:31Speaker 1: had on the short as well as Tea Shirt who
- 2:33Speaker 1: was also stars on the short. As you know, kimm
- 2:35Speaker 1: and Maurice got married the first season of the show
- 2:38Speaker 1: and still, as I said that Riding the Bio, have
- 2:40Speaker 1: not went on the honeymoon. We'll find out about that.
- 2:42Speaker 1: They're coming on the show to talk about the new
- 2:44Speaker 1: season of Owns, Love and Marriage Huntsville, which sometimes can
- 2:48Speaker 1: be a mess, but we're talking about entrepreneurship, which is
- 2:51Speaker 1: always filled with drama. Please work with the money making conversation,
- 2:54Speaker 1: Kimmy Scott and Maury Scott. Everybody, well, thank you for
- 3:01Speaker 1: coming on the show. First for all, let's get let's
- 3:03Speaker 1: do a little history on the show. You know, when
- 3:05Speaker 1: the show was launched, Um, how did you guys get
- 3:07Speaker 1: invited to do the show, and why did you accept
- 3:10Speaker 1: to do the show. You can each individually respond how
- 3:13Speaker 1: you want to. I just want to just get a
- 3:14Speaker 1: response in such a stage for the audience as to
- 3:17Speaker 1: who I'm interviewing. H Well, we uh we got introduced
- 3:22Speaker 1: to the show by a great idea from Melody Home. Okay, um,
- 3:26Speaker 1: we are all you know, we're all friends and we're
- 3:29Speaker 1: sitting around and then Mail comes up with this, you know,
- 3:31Speaker 1: genius idea of hey, let's do a reality show. So
- 3:35Speaker 1: we uh, we were invited to do a couple of
- 3:38Speaker 1: different pilots and things that we were filming for a
- 3:41Speaker 1: little while, and then she got Ricarlos and the magic happened. Kimmy,
- 3:45Speaker 1: that's somebody say it's magic, But when you put your
- 3:48Speaker 1: personal life out there and it's getting the social media
- 3:51Speaker 1: and sometimes it can be unmagical. Talk about some of
- 3:55Speaker 1: the the unmagical things that have happened. Because he said,
- 3:58Speaker 1: you know, because more we said was brilliant. Now I
- 4:01Speaker 1: when to watch the show, and like I always say,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you have one of the most animated faces I know
- 4:06Speaker 1: on television. Okay, you know you're one of the people
- 4:09Speaker 1: you can you tell it all on your face. You
- 4:10Speaker 1: can just as they say, you can just be smiling,
- 4:12Speaker 1: but I can look in your eyes say, well, she's
- 4:14Speaker 1: kind of mad at this situation. So talk about your
- 4:16Speaker 1: experience and then being allowed to, uh, you know, share
- 4:20Speaker 1: your your personal life is where as your professional life,
- 4:23Speaker 1: and then people can judge you because editing doesn't always
- 4:26Speaker 1: tell the true story. Correct. Correct, very much so correct
- 4:33Speaker 1: um he he loosely uses the term magic happen because
- 4:40Speaker 1: everything you just said literally is a correct and from
- 4:44Speaker 1: time to time you do kind of revisit your choice
- 4:48Speaker 1: to actually be one reality. At the moment, I believe
- 4:52Speaker 1: that both of us feel like the pros outweigh the
- 4:55Speaker 1: funds um and the biggest kind of which is people
- 5:00Speaker 1: voicing their opinion about your edited forty two minutes life.
- 5:07Speaker 1: So that's always a tough part, we know. And so
- 5:11Speaker 1: when I hear this two things you said Maurice and Kim,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and you said it was a great idea. Now, whenever
- 5:16Speaker 1: I look at reality show, especially shows like this, I
- 5:19Speaker 1: see a business opportunity because if you have a business,
- 5:22Speaker 1: your entrepreneurs like you are, you can promote it. You know,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you can build your brand and it can lead to
- 5:27Speaker 1: sex stories. It may not happen if you didn't have
- 5:30Speaker 1: this platform. With that being said, Maurice, so you started
- 5:33Speaker 1: with the word magic and brilliant. Let's talk about how
- 5:36Speaker 1: has that helped your business because I mentioned earlier you
- 5:39Speaker 1: have a law firm called United Legal and you're also
- 5:41Speaker 1: the owner of Credit one USA. Well, it's helping me
- 5:46Speaker 1: significantly reach a broader audience. Right, Like, we had clients
- 5:50Speaker 1: all across the nation that we're helping as far as um,
- 5:54Speaker 1: get their finances in order and actually participating in the market,
- 5:58Speaker 1: whether it's the Halloween market, is this market? Um, everything
- 6:02Speaker 1: boiled down to credit. So getting that consumer finance and
- 6:06Speaker 1: then moving on to consumer law, that's a whole different
- 6:10Speaker 1: area and a lot of consumers have no idea about
- 6:13Speaker 1: the different laws that are in place that protect them. Uh,
- 6:16Speaker 1: make sure that they're able to keep all the money
- 6:19Speaker 1: that they're earning. And then uh, there's some other things
- 6:21Speaker 1: that we're working on as well. But overall, as far
- 6:24Speaker 1: as the business aspect is concerned, I mean marketing. You know,
- 6:29Speaker 1: it's really interesting that Okay, Kimmy, you're a real estate
- 6:32Speaker 1: agent and then more as your real estate investor, and
- 6:35Speaker 1: we look at the housing market, and it is like
- 6:38Speaker 1: fire everywhere. You know. My younger brother he sold this
- 6:41Speaker 1: house in DC and I say within a week it
- 6:45Speaker 1: was sold, literally a week. My wife put her mom's
- 6:48Speaker 1: house on in Houston, Texas and they had like fifteen offer.
- 6:52Speaker 1: In fact fact, it was bidded up above the the
- 6:55Speaker 1: the the value that they had asked for at the time.
- 6:58Speaker 1: What is driving nationwide, not just in certain pockets of
- 7:02Speaker 1: the country. What is driving this high momentum for home
- 7:07Speaker 1: home ownership? UM? I personally believe that it's uh, it's
- 7:13Speaker 1: a false scarcity. Um. Right now we have this moratorium
- 7:17Speaker 1: on foreclosures and that right there is pushing housing values up.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And I think that right now we're experiencing a bubble
- 7:27Speaker 1: of such that UM, smart people would save money and
- 7:32Speaker 1: get prepared because we've seen this before. Now, Kimmy, you
- 7:37Speaker 1: you're the agent. You're out there, I want to say,
- 7:39Speaker 1: when you said the agent, you're out there doing the sales.
- 7:42Speaker 1: You're out there, if I'm mistaken, out there taking people
- 7:45Speaker 1: in and suggesting these home prices. And so you're seeing
- 7:48Speaker 1: the shift. I see you more. And Maurice as an investor,
- 7:50Speaker 1: so you see the options from a different perspective, but
- 7:53Speaker 1: you're seeing the perspective from an actual customer perspective, correct, Kimmy,
- 7:58Speaker 1: all right, um, and from I agree with what Marie
- 8:02Speaker 1: said as well. UM, I don't know if it's all
- 8:07Speaker 1: of false security of availability, but at the moment, it's
- 8:11Speaker 1: just the seller's market and there's literally more buyers in
- 8:15Speaker 1: the market than there are homes to purchase. And the matorium,
- 8:19Speaker 1: as he mentioned, just got lifted out of the nationwide.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Different states have lifted there's at different times, um, but
- 8:26Speaker 1: the end of the month was that particular time. And
- 8:29Speaker 1: if people don't know what that is, that was where
- 8:32Speaker 1: there was a law passed that you couldn't put people
- 8:35Speaker 1: out of their homes if they didn't keep up with
- 8:37Speaker 1: their payments based on the pandemic and having had issues
- 8:43Speaker 1: financially with the pandemic. Um. And there are millions of
- 8:48Speaker 1: people who had trouble and this was helpful to them.
- 8:52Speaker 1: So now that that has been taken away, we're hoping
- 8:56Speaker 1: that it will balance out the availability of homes again
- 9:00Speaker 1: and um, just a little bit so that it kind
- 9:02Speaker 1: of comes down. But right now it's simply not enough
- 9:05Speaker 1: properties for the amount of people that want to purchase them,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and the interestry to interest rates are great. Um. And
- 9:11Speaker 1: so all of that kind of plays a role in
- 9:14Speaker 1: people wanting to sell their home because they want the
- 9:17Speaker 1: biggest bank for the book. Just like you mentioned on
- 9:19Speaker 1: your mom's home. The majority of these homes are selling
- 9:23Speaker 1: for over asking price. There's a fair amount that is
- 9:27Speaker 1: selling for over market value. So you know, it's just
- 9:33Speaker 1: it's just the supplying demand at the moment, it's just
- 9:37Speaker 1: supplying demand. Well, I would listen listen lists because I'm
- 9:40Speaker 1: talking to a couple of real estate people. That's why
- 9:41Speaker 1: I'm really excited about this. You kind of experts to me,
- 9:44Speaker 1: because my arties need to hear this because we've seen
- 9:47Speaker 1: this before. You know, when the Halisey market came out
- 9:49Speaker 1: there and it was extending loans and and the bubble
- 9:52Speaker 1: burst and it really collapsed this economy, Mr investor. Uh,
- 9:57Speaker 1: how do you see that? Um? I actually see it. Uh.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I see it as an opportunity because you don't have
- 10:06Speaker 1: to get caught by surprise once again with the same information.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And and if I kind of look at real estates
- 10:14Speaker 1: similar to stock, I don't I don't like to buy
- 10:17Speaker 1: at the top of the market at all. Possible. Um,
- 10:19Speaker 1: there's some good deals that are out there still, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: they're they're they're available now, so there's always gonna be
- 10:25Speaker 1: another deal to come along. But I like to buy
- 10:28Speaker 1: when no one else is buying, because then that's where
- 10:31Speaker 1: the real deals are. And UM, I heard a story
- 10:34Speaker 1: a long time ago and they said that, um, good
- 10:37Speaker 1: money waits until the bad money leaves the market. And
- 10:41Speaker 1: in essence, all that saying is that individuals that are
- 10:44Speaker 1: buying at the top of the market, if the market collapses,
- 10:47Speaker 1: then you lose value in your home. But those that
- 10:50Speaker 1: buy later, those are the ones that actually get a
- 10:53Speaker 1: true transfer our wealth. And so, UM, I think that
- 10:57Speaker 1: people should be smart about their money. You know. I
- 10:59Speaker 1: I'd rather see someone purchase at home rather than just rent,
- 11:03Speaker 1: but be smart about it. Well, let's let's let's talk
- 11:06Speaker 1: about this because you are a registered nurse. We're still
- 11:08Speaker 1: in COVID. We all thought we was about to get
- 11:10Speaker 1: out of COVID. I'm double vaccinated and then relaxed my
- 11:15Speaker 1: whole life when I got vaccinated, cause I was I
- 11:17Speaker 1: realized I was living in a state of parent I
- 11:20Speaker 1: was paranoid about what I touched, who I talked to,
- 11:23Speaker 1: did I did the grocery basket that I pushed in
- 11:25Speaker 1: the grocery store, and then I got vaccinated and I relaxed.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I went, wow, I can Actually I wasn't hugging nobody.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't. I went back to that,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I wouldn't that relaxed team. But you are a registered nurse, Kimmy,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and being a registered nurse, you see things from a
- 11:41Speaker 1: different perspective than both that either I see or Moor
- 11:44Speaker 1: receives during the COVID in walk us through that whole
- 11:48Speaker 1: process of how you talk to your friends, how you
- 11:51Speaker 1: talk to your family, And then one where we're dealing
- 11:55Speaker 1: with this new delta variant, how are you dealing with
- 11:58Speaker 1: your friends and your friend to live a normal life
- 12:02Speaker 1: if we all can live a normal life. Um, that's
- 12:07Speaker 1: a clinician. Is honestly difficult for me to ever see
- 12:10Speaker 1: us getting back to much normalcy. Um, and that's unfortunate
- 12:15Speaker 1: in my opinion. UM, I'm gonna tell you though, I
- 12:19Speaker 1: guess part of my biggest surprise was the conversation with
- 12:25Speaker 1: so many people that people didn't wash their hands regularly
- 12:29Speaker 1: or you know, wipe the handle of the car. I've
- 12:32Speaker 1: been I keep wipes in my car and in my
- 12:35Speaker 1: first for years, and I always wiped the handle of
- 12:38Speaker 1: the car off UM. And so there's something that we
- 12:42Speaker 1: are gonna have to put into everyday practice just going forward,
- 12:47Speaker 1: pandemic or not. UM. It was very surreal to be
- 12:52Speaker 1: a nurse in that time frame UM, because I've worked
- 12:55Speaker 1: through a bowl, I a one h one in one,
- 12:58Speaker 1: all of that, and nothing compared to this as far
- 13:03Speaker 1: as the statistics of lives that we were losing and
- 13:07Speaker 1: the fact that we just couldn't get our arms wrapped
- 13:10Speaker 1: around this virus UM to take control of it. So
- 13:16Speaker 1: I don't I can't say I know a person that
- 13:19Speaker 1: doesn't know a person in their immediate circle who wasn't
- 13:23Speaker 1: affected by UM covid during the pandemic. And so we
- 13:27Speaker 1: have to still be VIGEAMINT. They told us last year
- 13:31Speaker 1: that it could mutate, and if it mutated into a
- 13:34Speaker 1: different DNA type virus, that it's gonna be a whole
- 13:38Speaker 1: problem to kind of wrap your head around another mutation
- 13:41Speaker 1: of it UM. And that's where we are right now.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And some of the numbers are going back up because
- 13:47Speaker 1: a lot of people have gotten relaxed UM, and we
- 13:49Speaker 1: need to keep the same habits. We need to still
- 13:52Speaker 1: continue social distancing. We need to still continue hand washing,
- 13:57Speaker 1: We need to wear masks, especially in the close quarters
- 14:00Speaker 1: with people. Um So, a lot of the things we
- 14:03Speaker 1: were doing in we're gonna have to kinda revisits, some
- 14:07Speaker 1: of them faint for a while. It's finally here the
- 14:10Speaker 1: season of celebration, and no matter how you celebrate with
- 14:14Speaker 1: family and friends, whether you're preparing for reis magos or
- 14:17Speaker 1: Karamu lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass, Coals
- 14:21Speaker 1: has just what you need to make those traditions special.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Plus you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send
- 14:28Speaker 1: warm wishes with cozy fleeces, sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Support minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from
- 14:36Speaker 1: Human Nation and shame moisture, or treat them to everyone's
- 14:40Speaker 1: favorite active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas, and
- 14:43Speaker 1: under Armour. And in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares
- 14:47Speaker 1: is donating eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed
- 14:51Speaker 1: to the health and well being of our communities. No
- 14:54Speaker 1: matter how you celebrate, when you shop at Coals, you're
- 14:57Speaker 1: right where you belong. So this reason, give with all
- 15:01Speaker 1: your heart with great gifts from coals or coals dot com.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Look for your children's eyes to see the true magic
- 15:07Speaker 1: of a forest. It's a storybook world for them. You
- 15:11Speaker 1: look and see a tree. They see the wrinkled face
- 15:14Speaker 1: of a wizard with arms outstretched to the sky. They
- 15:17Speaker 1: see treasure and pebbles. They see a windy path that
- 15:21Speaker 1: could lead to adventure, and they see you. They're fearless. Guide.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Is this fascinating world? Find a forest near you and
- 15:28Speaker 1: start exploring and discover the forest dot org brought to
- 15:32Speaker 1: you by the United States Forest Service and the ad Council.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Look for your children's eyes to see the true magic
- 15:38Speaker 1: of a forest. It's a storybook world for them. You
- 15:41Speaker 1: look and see a tree, They see the wrinkled face
- 15:44Speaker 1: of a wizard with arms outstretched to the sky. They
- 15:48Speaker 1: see treasure and pebbles. They see a windy path that
- 15:51Speaker 1: could lead to adventure, and they see you. They're fearless. Guide.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Is this fascinating world? Find a forest near you and
- 15:59Speaker 1: start exploring and get discovered the forest dot org brought
- 16:02Speaker 1: to you by the United States Forest Service and the Council.
- 16:05Speaker 1: We'll have two questions with you, Kimmy with revolver around
- 16:08Speaker 1: COVID Night Team. First of all, you're shooting the show
- 16:10Speaker 1: doing COVID Night Team. How did that affect you mentally?
- 16:13Speaker 1: You know, knowing what you know, and then dealing with
- 16:16Speaker 1: your husband knowing what you're advising him on. And then
- 16:19Speaker 1: when you hear people who don't want to get vaccinated,
- 16:22Speaker 1: how do what are your response to that? And I
- 16:24Speaker 1: offer these questions are comfortable with you because you're you're
- 16:27Speaker 1: you're professional and I feel I can come to you.
- 16:29Speaker 1: And there are fans out there need to hear the
- 16:31Speaker 1: truth from somebody that they respect. So for me in
- 16:37Speaker 1: the realm of the TV show, UH, they take extreme
- 16:43Speaker 1: precautions as far as what we need to do in
- 16:46Speaker 1: order to keep filming. UM, we took various lengthy breaks.
- 16:52Speaker 1: This has probably been the longest season ever filming because
- 16:57Speaker 1: we had to take so many UM mandated breaks, be
- 17:01Speaker 1: it statewide, nationwide, or just from the production company. UM.
- 17:06Speaker 1: We have to do the same things as far as
- 17:08Speaker 1: social distancing. We have to wear masks, We COVID tests
- 17:12Speaker 1: three times a week in order to continue filming. UM.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Anybody who's in the immediate circle of that filming group
- 17:20Speaker 1: has to test. So say, for instance, I have a
- 17:23Speaker 1: closing and they want to film the closing, the people
- 17:26Speaker 1: at the attorney's office have to test as well, so
- 17:29Speaker 1: they keep a real vigilant I on the COVID precautions,
- 17:34Speaker 1: which we can definitely respect. I think as far as
- 17:38Speaker 1: opening eyes, it probably open more resize more than my eyes,
- 17:43Speaker 1: to be fair, because as a nurse, I'm actually the
- 17:47Speaker 1: executive director, and so I didn't really have to beat
- 17:50Speaker 1: on the front lines unless I have to be on
- 17:53Speaker 1: the front lines. And with COVID, when you have nursing
- 17:57Speaker 1: and staff out, it's time for you to put your
- 17:59Speaker 1: scrubs on. So when he would see me get up
- 18:02Speaker 1: in the morning and put scrubs on, scrubs mint, it's
- 18:05Speaker 1: time for me to see patients, and it kind of
- 18:08Speaker 1: a spin for him to know that. Okay, so now
- 18:12Speaker 1: this is real because you have to go into these
- 18:15Speaker 1: people's houses and see these patients at this point, and
- 18:20Speaker 1: it can affect you, it can affect our household. It's
- 18:23Speaker 1: stuff that you can bring home to our kids. And
- 18:26Speaker 1: so that's where a lot of that thing changed. And
- 18:29Speaker 1: in order to kind of reel it in, we gotta
- 18:32Speaker 1: do a lot of due diligence and our homework. I
- 18:34Speaker 1: believe that with the vaccinations that are coming out, there's
- 18:38Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of signs and symptoms we have
- 18:40Speaker 1: to be familiar with because it's new. It's new, and
- 18:44Speaker 1: anything new, it's gonna have signs and symptoms. We just
- 18:47Speaker 1: don't know them all at this point. And I think
- 18:49Speaker 1: that some of the fear and a lot of people
- 18:53Speaker 1: as far as taking the actual vaccine, it's just new
- 18:57Speaker 1: and we just gotta be familiar. I don't want to
- 19:00Speaker 1: be the one in a million that takes the vaccine
- 19:03Speaker 1: and you know it has the Caesar and not like
- 19:05Speaker 1: I don't want to be that one. Um. So people
- 19:08Speaker 1: are fearful. So I think the due diligence and dissemination
- 19:11Speaker 1: of information is what's gonna help people want to get
- 19:14Speaker 1: on board to make sure that we do everything possible
- 19:17Speaker 1: to keep this virus from exploding like it did last year. Now, Morris,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, we just said, like I was honest with
- 19:24Speaker 1: you when when the when the COVID came out, you know,
- 19:27Speaker 1: I was paranoid. Now you live in with a health professional.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Where was your mind? Like she said, you know, she
- 19:32Speaker 1: put on the scrubs. Now you know she out there
- 19:34Speaker 1: dealing and and as a certain uncertainly uncomfortableness, How did
- 19:39Speaker 1: did that affect your relationship or did they create a
- 19:41Speaker 1: different conversation with the family that you did have previously.
- 19:45Speaker 1: How did you emotionally deal with that? Because it's still
- 19:48Speaker 1: a degree you know, even though she can say what
- 19:50Speaker 1: she's doing is correct, and you still have your own
- 19:52Speaker 1: mindset that you have to deal with. Talk to us
- 19:54Speaker 1: about that. Well. Um, Initially, when when me actually had
- 20:00Speaker 1: to go on the front lines, it was at the
- 20:03Speaker 1: time where other countries death told was through the roof,
- 20:06Speaker 1: so um, at that moment, it's it felt like it
- 20:10Speaker 1: could have been a death sentence. And um, it's very
- 20:14Speaker 1: difficult to deal with because this is, you know, my
- 20:17Speaker 1: wife that we're talking about. So now you see the
- 20:21Speaker 1: personal sacrifice. It's actually changed my mind completely about the
- 20:25Speaker 1: medical profession in general. I know that they save lives,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but you don't know to what extent When you actually
- 20:32Speaker 1: put your own life on the line for someone else,
- 20:34Speaker 1: then now you're really a hero, you know, And um,
- 20:39Speaker 1: you look at it for the greater good of what
- 20:41Speaker 1: she was doing. So I understand the selfless act, but Um,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know you still have concerns because this is this
- 20:49Speaker 1: is a family member, this is somebody who's very close
- 20:52Speaker 1: and I don't know what I do without them. So, um,
- 20:55Speaker 1: you know there's stress that comes along with that. But
- 20:57Speaker 1: then after you get to doing some more homework and
- 20:59Speaker 1: you're realising that you know some of the precautions that
- 21:02Speaker 1: were taken for you know, our country is different than
- 21:06Speaker 1: other countries and I would respected them. Um. Also you
- 21:10Speaker 1: know how healthy we are as well. Now let's talk
- 21:14Speaker 1: about this this loved one, this beautiful woman that you
- 21:17Speaker 1: married the first season of the show. Did I read
- 21:20Speaker 1: the bio? Still have not went on a honeymoon? Not?
- 21:24Speaker 1: Come on, Morris, to come on, brother, come on Black
- 21:25Speaker 1: Now you gotta talk to me that you really see,
- 21:28Speaker 1: I know, was technical or real professional? Talk about the
- 21:31Speaker 1: real estate. Talk about how your baller got two businesses.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You know she got to rescue in America. Yea hero.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I just gotta get on your bar now. You know
- 21:43Speaker 1: he can't make a time to go nowhere, get a
- 21:46Speaker 1: rent with a condo. He could have walked in there
- 21:49Speaker 1: with a with a with a suit on, with a
- 21:51Speaker 1: mask on, and to care. You know, I gotta interview
- 21:55Speaker 1: you in the third season and he come on, Maria,
- 22:01Speaker 1: this is your Morris, this is your time to talk.
- 22:03Speaker 1: But it's time to talk to all the black men
- 22:05Speaker 1: in America. Okay, Mr McDonald, I thank you for this
- 22:09Speaker 1: opportunity to address what you're about to do. What you're
- 22:12Speaker 1: about to do? What's about to do? You read her bio?
- 22:17Speaker 1: Uh huh. I'm actually of Jamaican this thing. Okay, she
- 22:22Speaker 1: was I gotta in order to take her on a honeymoon.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I'm gotta slow her down. Oh oh, is you Kimmy?
- 22:33Speaker 1: You the problem? Kim me? Okay, Okay, Marie's let me
- 22:43Speaker 1: ask you this, or let's we're just on my show.
- 22:46Speaker 1: We're just on my show. You're a baller. Fantasize what
- 22:50Speaker 1: would be a place or destiny? What would that experience
- 22:54Speaker 1: be like for this beautiful remember of signal stat who's
- 22:59Speaker 1: a here role in a medical profession, save it live,
- 23:02Speaker 1: putting the family in teopardy, but all for the benefit
- 23:06Speaker 1: of America? What would you take her hand? Man? This angel?
- 23:11Speaker 1: Let let me tell you Jamaica. Jamaica, man, Jamaica. Make
- 23:16Speaker 1: don start. Oh for sure, she loves son and fun
- 23:21Speaker 1: for sure. If saying they ain't in her toes state.
- 23:28Speaker 1: That's the one thing I know for sure, like the
- 23:31Speaker 1: best times in her life always has son insane right right? So, um,
- 23:38Speaker 1: we've actually, you know, going on a honeymoon and the
- 23:42Speaker 1: timing has to be right, of course because we have
- 23:44Speaker 1: the kids and uh, we got to make sure that
- 23:47Speaker 1: all that stuff is in order. They're starting school. But
- 23:50Speaker 1: this is about to go down. It's about to go down.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Kim me here that I'm gonna bring you all back
- 23:58Speaker 1: on the show now. It cannot be season four and
- 24:01Speaker 1: we're still talking about it. I've been hearing it. I'm ready.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I got a suitcase. You know how women that are?
- 24:10Speaker 1: You know, because you know, you know, a beautiful couple, y'all.
- 24:15Speaker 1: You know, y'all look good. Look right here I met
- 24:18Speaker 1: when somebody looked good in front of me. I I'm
- 24:19Speaker 1: not a shame y'all. Beautiful couple and he ain't just
- 24:22Speaker 1: taking you know where the showcase you you know, put
- 24:24Speaker 1: you on the pedestal, you know, held you up high
- 24:27Speaker 1: like you know, like did the baby. You know what
- 24:29Speaker 1: I'm saying, he ain't done nothing. You know, when when
- 24:34Speaker 1: I when I when I when I look at the
- 24:36Speaker 1: show and I'm just shifting gears a little bit here
- 24:39Speaker 1: because I want to know, what do you know Tiffany
- 24:43Speaker 1: and also Maurice and some of these storylines, because you know,
- 24:46Speaker 1: like you know, especially recently when you had the little
- 24:49Speaker 1: dinner with It and then then you were shocked by
- 24:51Speaker 1: this new I call a shady character, Tiffany who's been
- 24:55Speaker 1: added to the show. She just run around the just
- 24:57Speaker 1: dropping dimes on everybody, and then you have to react
- 25:02Speaker 1: to that, Like the last time was in the Luncheon
- 25:07Speaker 1: when she dropped the dime on on Destiny and then
- 25:10Speaker 1: she and then the previous episode she told, she told,
- 25:14Speaker 1: she told Meller did she even know who Destiny was?
- 25:17Speaker 1: And then she shared some information about monster and vaping
- 25:21Speaker 1: and that shocked you because she revealed information by the kid.
- 25:24Speaker 1: So how does these story lines work for my fans?
- 25:27Speaker 1: As far as how do y'all walk into these scenes?
- 25:30Speaker 1: Are y'all produced to up to a point or they
- 25:33Speaker 1: just set scenarios? How does that work? Starting with you,
- 25:37Speaker 1: Kimmy Den, I'm going to you because we need to
- 25:38Speaker 1: get the men side of the story because that Martel,
- 25:41Speaker 1: he's just a disaster. Okay, So as far as the
- 25:47Speaker 1: production of the show UM, and all fairness, we have
- 25:52Speaker 1: different um Field producers that are assigned to us, and
- 25:58Speaker 1: they communicate with us on a very recular basis UM
- 26:01Speaker 1: either phone in person just to know what's going on
- 26:05Speaker 1: in our world each week, UM, what's coming up, events
- 26:09Speaker 1: that are coming up, things that we have planned as
- 26:11Speaker 1: far as our businesses or children, UM. And so they
- 26:17Speaker 1: don't produce the situation. However, they do try to help
- 26:21Speaker 1: us see different avenues of getting it filmed, like getting
- 26:26Speaker 1: it on TV UM and the things that are actually
- 26:29Speaker 1: I guess TV worthy, you know, because you might tell
- 26:32Speaker 1: them ten different things you got going on this week,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and they only interested in one UM, and that happens
- 26:39Speaker 1: fairly often. The one thing I will say about the
- 26:42Speaker 1: show that I say a lot actually is they force
- 26:47Speaker 1: us to have some conversations that we might not normally have.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And the reason I say that is because there are
- 26:55Speaker 1: times like for me, especially when I have an alter
- 26:59Speaker 1: case with someone, I kind of distanced myself UM because
- 27:04Speaker 1: I really enjoy my peace, and my peace is more
- 27:07Speaker 1: important than non piece UM. And so on the show,
- 27:13Speaker 1: they have put us in situations where we're encouraged to
- 27:17Speaker 1: talk it out instead of just even it be UM
- 27:21Speaker 1: and and that is where production I think takes a
- 27:24Speaker 1: big band and helping us get over some hurdles that
- 27:29Speaker 1: maybe otherwise we wouldn't get over. UM And to be fair,
- 27:33Speaker 1: it also produces some hurdles, produces some hurdles UM, But
- 27:40Speaker 1: more often than not, it's just strict conversation that we've
- 27:44Speaker 1: had with them, UM and they kind of determine the
- 27:48Speaker 1: best day, the best time for us to kind of
- 27:51Speaker 1: blossom that conversation into something that the nation can relate to. Well,
- 27:58Speaker 1: you know, your brother's on the show, and he has
- 28:01Speaker 1: kind of like a Lucy goosey personality, you know, versus
- 28:04Speaker 1: your person Your personality is pretty straightforward. You know you
- 28:08Speaker 1: you know, you truly are professional. And I'm not saying
- 28:11Speaker 1: he's unprofessional, but I think you know what I'm saying.
- 28:13Speaker 1: You know, he kind of jokes around a lot a
- 28:15Speaker 1: lot of situations. Even though she slapped your hand when
- 28:17Speaker 1: you joked around with Cara when y'all did that little
- 28:20Speaker 1: video phone call, she didn't think that was a joke.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Kimmy said that there ain't no time to joke. Now, okay,
- 28:24Speaker 1: you stop all that joking now, you ain't no comedian.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Now Mr Morris, Okay, now we look over that Bartel,
- 28:33Speaker 1: his life a disaster is just being played out on
- 28:35Speaker 1: social media, is being played out on TV. When you
- 28:39Speaker 1: look at that and you're dealing with all of the situations,
- 28:41Speaker 1: how do you how do you deal with that? How
- 28:44Speaker 1: do you make sure that your brand, your family, it
- 28:48Speaker 1: doesn't become a victim of this show or any type
- 28:51Speaker 1: of show, that they can be exposed in a negative
- 28:53Speaker 1: light because right now it has happened to them. And
- 28:56Speaker 1: I'm not saying, like even Destiny she got a divorce
- 28:58Speaker 1: on the show, and I'm not sure to turn this
- 29:00Speaker 1: into a negative conversation, but it is a certain responsibility
- 29:03Speaker 1: that you have to hope the hold both as a couple,
- 29:05Speaker 1: to understand what you involved in and making sure that
- 29:08Speaker 1: it doesn't impact your home. Yeah. I think that there's
- 29:13Speaker 1: a level of emotional intelligence that's important when you're getting
- 29:16Speaker 1: on a reality television show. Um, And there's a level
- 29:22Speaker 1: of character that I'm not I'm not gonna play a
- 29:24Speaker 1: certain character in life, and that's just being true to myself,
- 29:28Speaker 1: true to my family, true to my braind um. And
- 29:32Speaker 1: at the end of the day, I think that there's
- 29:35Speaker 1: not enough. There's not enough game from television, UM or
- 29:40Speaker 1: reality television to lose my family. UM, and I personally
- 29:46Speaker 1: think that even in certain certain situations that they're dealing with, UM,
- 29:51Speaker 1: it's difficult because the world has an idea about how
- 29:55Speaker 1: their relationships should go when they see just snippets of
- 29:58Speaker 1: the person. Yes, So even though Mark Tell and and
- 30:02Speaker 1: this is this is a concept that's kind of difficult
- 30:05Speaker 1: for a lot of fans to get. Martell is not
- 30:08Speaker 1: in all the time, right, there's no way in the
- 30:12Speaker 1: world that Martell would have been this person and Mail
- 30:15Speaker 1: would have been with him for ten years, right. So
- 30:18Speaker 1: that's just a portion of his personality. On the flip side,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Martell is probably one of the nicest people you've ever meet.
- 30:26Speaker 1: And he's awful. He's carrying, He's a kind of individual
- 30:30Speaker 1: that will call you about, you know, something that you
- 30:33Speaker 1: may have talked to him about two weeks ago, and
- 30:35Speaker 1: he's found a solution for it. So there's a flip
- 30:38Speaker 1: side to Mark Telle that you don't get a chance
- 30:40Speaker 1: to see all the time, And there's a flip side
- 30:42Speaker 1: to pretty much all of us. UM. You know, I'm
- 30:46Speaker 1: reserved for the most part on the show, but I'm
- 30:49Speaker 1: not always reserved. There's things that you know call spirited conversation.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Um usually when you involve children, my family, you know
- 30:59Speaker 1: the things you know definitely, will you know, turn up
- 31:02Speaker 1: my uh my intensity a little bit. Well, I want
- 31:05Speaker 1: to thank you both for coming on the show. I've
- 31:07Speaker 1: been trying to get you all since season one. You're
- 31:10Speaker 1: very special. Uh. More importantly, as as we walk through this,
- 31:14Speaker 1: you know you you guys are black excellence and from
- 31:17Speaker 1: the city of Huntsville, which I'm very familiar with. If
- 31:19Speaker 1: the ever been, If anybody have fans who are listening
- 31:21Speaker 1: to the watching if you have not, Huntsville is uh
- 31:24Speaker 1: the Homer Nassa. Uh some of the high population of
- 31:28Speaker 1: educated people. They income levels very high. So don't look
- 31:31Speaker 1: at feel like it's a little small country town because
- 31:33Speaker 1: you're highly mistaken about what's going on in Huntsville. Because
- 31:37Speaker 1: this couple I'm talking to right now are very successful
- 31:39Speaker 1: and they're all right, and thank you for coming on
- 31:41Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation Kimmy Scott and more Scott every Saturday
- 31:44Speaker 1: night they are Own Love and Marriage and Huntville. It's

- 32:04Speaker 1: waiting for the and there they go, almost on time.
- 32:07Speaker 1: This morning. Mom is coming out the front door strong
- 32:10Speaker 1: with a double arm kid carry. Looks like Dad has
- 32:12Speaker 1: the bags. Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh, but
- 32:15Speaker 1: the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 32:21Speaker 1: But Mom has just nailed the perfect car seat buckle
- 32:25Speaker 1: for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who looks
- 32:28Speaker 1: to be about nine or ten, has secured herself in
- 32:30Speaker 1: the booster seat. Dad SIPs the bag clothes and they're off. Ah,
- 32:35Speaker 1: but looks like Mom doesn't realize her coffee cup is
- 32:37Speaker 1: still on the roof of the car and there it goes. Oh,
- 32:42Speaker 1: that's a shame that mug was a fan favorite. Don't
- 32:45Speaker 1: sweat the small stuff. Just nailed the big stuff, like
- 32:47Speaker 1: making sure your kids are buckled correctly in the right

- 34:29Speaker 1: health is wealth, right, and so you know, the winery
- 34:31Speaker 1: out of Israel was important for me to get involved
- 34:34Speaker 1: in because you know, obviously having the Biblical ties and
- 34:36Speaker 1: knowing that throughout the whole Biblical context there's always been
- 34:39Speaker 1: wine involved in the Bible, right, So I wanted to
- 34:41Speaker 1: kind of back with that soil and create a juice

- 36:57Speaker 1: like set the same like I think, uh, Larry David
- 37:01Speaker 1: or HBO kind of has an unscriptive show where people
- 37:04Speaker 1: walk in the kind of set up the scene, but
- 37:06Speaker 1: it's from a comedy perspective, so you know that direction.
- 37:09Speaker 1: So you could be throwing some curves when you're developing
- 37:13Speaker 1: these shows. So talk about the process to my viewers
- 37:16Speaker 1: and listeners in the world of reality. Yeah, well again,
- 37:21Speaker 1: thanks for having me. And no, it is true when
- 37:23Speaker 1: you're dealing with real people and you're producing a reality show.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It's very challenging because you really are following the reality
- 37:34Speaker 1: of their life and off the time. That means the good,
- 37:38Speaker 1: the bad, and the ugly. And that's the reason why
- 37:41Speaker 1: my shows are so relatable is because we don't orchestrate
- 37:44Speaker 1: anything out of drama sake. We do such a fantastic
- 37:49Speaker 1: job at the company to where we truly immerse ourselves
- 37:54Speaker 1: into the lives of our talent, and because it's such
- 37:59Speaker 1: bravery encourage for anybody to say, I want to let
- 38:05Speaker 1: cameras inside my household and into my life. That's the
- 38:09Speaker 1: privilege I don't take for granted. So because we have
- 38:12Speaker 1: to constantly make sure that the mental health of these
- 38:17Speaker 1: people are stable enough to really handle the conversation they're
- 38:21Speaker 1: having on camera and then deal with the after effects
- 38:24Speaker 1: of it when social media involved himself. So it is
- 38:28Speaker 1: very challenging to produce. When you're doing a scripted show,
- 38:31Speaker 1: you have an actor, they're playing character. They get paid
- 38:35Speaker 1: to to to say what you wrote, and they get
- 38:39Speaker 1: paid to do the action that you directed. So it's
- 38:43Speaker 1: much easier in that sense, where in my case, I
- 38:47Speaker 1: have to follow real people who have real issues and
- 38:49Speaker 1: real story and because I'm so sensitive to them, I
- 38:55Speaker 1: make sure that we all work together to put on
- 38:57Speaker 1: a good show. Well, one of the bigger storylines was
- 38:59Speaker 1: out of the love and marriage hunt Field. Like I said,
- 39:02Speaker 1: when you're talking about your scripted and you're talking about
- 39:05Speaker 1: this is not part of you know, you know, because
- 39:07Speaker 1: all these when the when the story. Because I just
- 39:09Speaker 1: recently interviewed that Kimmy and Maury Scott fantastic couple. First
- 39:13Speaker 1: time I interviewed them, and and they were just saying
- 39:16Speaker 1: they were all friends. And that's how you know, Melody
- 39:19Speaker 1: came to them with this great idea about the show
- 39:21Speaker 1: and Martel and they all got together and they shot
- 39:24Speaker 1: about three pilots with you before it was finally picked up.
- 39:28Speaker 1: And along the way, this success, you know, this unexpected
- 39:31Speaker 1: drama comes out. It was this reality your reality shows.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Guess what you can't change what happens because it's real.
- 39:39Speaker 1: And that was the relationship breakup of Melody and Martel
- 39:43Speaker 1: from a crisis management. How do you look at that
- 39:46Speaker 1: and how did you kind of like hold it together
- 39:51Speaker 1: respectfully and not try to explore it. Great question because
- 39:56Speaker 1: there's a fine line within that and The main thing
- 39:59Speaker 1: that I did that a lot of other reality reality
- 40:04Speaker 1: producers don't do, is I ask permission. First. I said, hey,
- 40:12Speaker 1: because you're telling you this is what you're going through,
- 40:15Speaker 1: are you comfortable sharing that on camera? Because my job
- 40:21Speaker 1: is to follow the reel. And what would be so
- 40:23Speaker 1: unfortunate is if the entire town knows about this infidelity
- 40:29Speaker 1: and you're on TV pretending you're in a great marriage,
- 40:33Speaker 1: you are going to lose in the end because when
- 40:36Speaker 1: people watch reality TV, they want to see authenticity. So
- 40:41Speaker 1: the permission that I asked Melody and Martell was, if
- 40:46Speaker 1: you trust me to handle this story, will tend to
- 40:51Speaker 1: love and care. I promise you you would come out
- 40:54Speaker 1: of this never feeling exploited. And at the end of
- 40:57Speaker 1: the day, you, courtesy of being transparent, you're going to
- 41:02Speaker 1: affect a lot of black households who are dealing with
- 41:05Speaker 1: this issue, and they will look to you as to
- 41:08Speaker 1: what to do right and what to do wrong, And
- 41:10Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you're going to become the voice
- 41:13Speaker 1: of this topic and the voice of this topic because
- 41:16Speaker 1: you know Melody, you know she's come out of this
- 41:18Speaker 1: as a uh mom entrepreneur, you know, powerful, strong, uh
- 41:25Speaker 1: look fantastic and uh. And sometimes when I look at
- 41:29Speaker 1: the show, I look at Martel confused, this is my
- 41:31Speaker 1: this is me talking um angry, don't know the direction
- 41:35Speaker 1: he wants to go with his life. And so you,
- 41:39Speaker 1: as a producer, you see these things happening, do you
- 41:42Speaker 1: give advice or do you just let it play off
- 41:45Speaker 1: and say, this is what we're gonna do. Are you
- 41:47Speaker 1: comfortable what we're gonna do? Or do you ever offer
- 41:49Speaker 1: advice to the individuals who are playing out these real
- 41:51Speaker 1: life characters Carlos, Yeah, I do live in a boat.
- 41:56Speaker 1: So primarily I follow the reality of what they're going
- 41:59Speaker 1: through because because what I like for my audience to
- 42:03Speaker 1: see again is the authenticity of someone dealing with pain
- 42:07Speaker 1: and joy. Right, So when Martell, when you watch the
- 42:11Speaker 1: show and you see Martell struggling with light after divorce,
- 42:17Speaker 1: I think a lot of black men, specifically black men,
- 42:21Speaker 1: and they may have steps outside of their marriage and
- 42:25Speaker 1: their wives leave them. They struggle with the realization that
- 42:31Speaker 1: my infidelity ruined this this relationship that I adored and
- 42:37Speaker 1: and and who am I outside of being married to
- 42:40Speaker 1: this woman who we were a partner in all of this?
- 42:44Speaker 1: And I think you're seeing some regret or Martell's behalf,
- 42:49Speaker 1: and as a black man producing this show, I cannot
- 42:53Speaker 1: sit back watch this man go through this pain and
- 42:57Speaker 1: not offer some sort of advice to hell. So I
- 43:02Speaker 1: definitely have had numerous conversations mal, most recently two weeks ago,
- 43:12Speaker 1: because I love them all and I want to make
- 43:14Speaker 1: sure that at the end of the day they're okay. Well,
- 43:17Speaker 1: you know the thing about it is that you said
- 43:19Speaker 1: it earlier about social media, because that's one of the
- 43:22Speaker 1: biggest churches and benefits of modern day success, you know,
- 43:27Speaker 1: But in reality TV it can be even worse because,
- 43:30Speaker 1: unlike a script, you're just playing a character and that's
- 43:32Speaker 1: my character told me to write that, you know where
- 43:34Speaker 1: reality show? How does social media work for you? And
- 43:38Speaker 1: how do you tell a talent because they are talents,
- 43:42Speaker 1: you know, whether they playing themselves or not, they are
- 43:44Speaker 1: they are talent. How do you recommend to talent that's
- 43:48Speaker 1: playing out a life that they can go to the
- 43:50Speaker 1: grocery store and she really is a Mortel, you know,
- 43:53Speaker 1: he she really is Kimmy, he really is more Ree,
- 43:56Speaker 1: she really is a tissue teacher. All these people are
- 43:58Speaker 1: going to the grocery store being the sales. So social
- 44:01Speaker 1: media can be very painful in the world of social media.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Do you encourage them to do social media or that's
- 44:08Speaker 1: that's their own thing. You walk away. They grown people,
- 44:11Speaker 1: They deal with it what they have to deal with it.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I discourage them for reading the comments on soccial media.
- 44:19Speaker 1: I think you have to use social media what it's for,
- 44:23Speaker 1: and that's engagement, and that is promoting whatever vehicle you
- 44:29Speaker 1: have to to get the word out. And once you post,
- 44:33Speaker 1: you leave right. You don't stay on them. Read the
- 44:37Speaker 1: comments because the number one to say I can make
- 44:45Speaker 1: is read comments of what other people are saying about them.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Because what I've learned through social media, and I love
- 44:54Speaker 1: social media, but I learned this, the meanest comments get
- 44:58Speaker 1: the most reaction. So if a game that people on
- 45:02Speaker 1: social media are playing in terms of how can I
- 45:06Speaker 1: trump this comment so that mind can get the most traction,
- 45:10Speaker 1: in order to do that, you have to get meaner
- 45:13Speaker 1: and nastier, and that can really affect so much's mental health.
- 45:18Speaker 1: So I tell my reality stars, do not read the
- 45:22Speaker 1: comment because it will ruin your day. Yes, that will
- 45:26Speaker 1: remain your life if you just keep reading that feed
- 45:29Speaker 1: on the daily basis but it's all started somewhere else
- 45:32Speaker 1: for you, not on We just talked about the current success.
- 45:35Speaker 1: When did you realize how did you get into the game.
- 45:38Speaker 1: You know, we've had this conversation before. We have new
- 45:40Speaker 1: listeners and new views. But I want to talk because
- 45:43Speaker 1: I want everybody wants to do what you do. Call
- 45:45Speaker 1: us okay, But again, you have a gift and I
- 45:47Speaker 1: tell people, you know, I was a sitcom writer, and
- 45:50Speaker 1: believe it, there were more talented sitcom writers than me,
- 45:53Speaker 1: and I could tell there was a difference between just
- 45:55Speaker 1: like there's a difference between the Michael Jordan's and a
- 45:57Speaker 1: player who was drafted in the first round. Their talents,
- 46:00Speaker 1: and you have that special gift, that that certain I
- 46:04Speaker 1: what makes you so special, And I'm not saying that
- 46:07Speaker 1: in a negative way, but obviously you see things different.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Call os why and how did that? How was it
- 46:14Speaker 1: introduced to you when you first got into reality television.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Because I was a kid who was sort of a
- 46:22Speaker 1: nerd going up to Detroit. I would watch endless hours
- 46:31Speaker 1: of television, which included everything from the Oprah Winfrey Show
- 46:36Speaker 1: to the local news too. I'm a kid watching the
- 46:40Speaker 1: Datelin NBC like I was a student of people. I
- 46:45Speaker 1: was a student of character, I was a student of knowledge,
- 46:49Speaker 1: and because of that, I thought I would become a
- 46:53Speaker 1: psychologist because I just love to get in the minds
- 46:56Speaker 1: of people and and really understand their behavior. Because I
- 47:00Speaker 1: had all of that education growing up. When I decided
- 47:05Speaker 1: to major and journalism in college and minor psychology, I
- 47:12Speaker 1: took both um gifts that I had a journalism and
- 47:15Speaker 1: psychology and applied it to what I do today. So
- 47:19Speaker 1: when I got an internship at BT, I just started
- 47:22Speaker 1: to really climb the ladder and I got a job there,
- 47:26Speaker 1: and I got offered to do a reality show because
- 47:29Speaker 1: my friends and the business knew that I loved reality TV.
- 47:33Speaker 1: And the first reality show I was offered, funny enough,
- 47:37Speaker 1: was The Real Housewives of Atlanta. It was a brand
- 47:40Speaker 1: new show in two thousand and eight, and it was
- 47:43Speaker 1: my first pay into reality. So when you talk about
- 47:47Speaker 1: a gift, I think it's the gift of the fact
- 47:50Speaker 1: that I studied people, so I know people, I know behavior,
- 47:57Speaker 1: and I know a star within five seconds of talking
- 48:02Speaker 1: to that. Adoption of teams from Foster Care is a
- 48:05Speaker 1: topic not enough people know about, and we're here to
- 48:08Speaker 1: change that. I'm April Dinuity, host of the new podcast

- 48:34Speaker 1: here as a guy with his own catchphrase. I appreciate
- 48:37Speaker 1: that Smokey's only said only you can prevent wildfires, but
- 48:41Speaker 1: I'm filling in because there's a lot more to report,
- 48:44Speaker 1: like when they're parched or windy conditions out there. You've
- 48:47Speaker 1: got to be extra careful with things like burning yard waist.
- 48:51Speaker 1: After all, wildfires can start anywhere, even in your neck
- 48:54Speaker 1: of the woods. Go to Smokey Bear dot com to
- 48:57Speaker 1: learn more about wildfire prevention, brought to you by the U. S.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Forest Service, your state forester, and the ad Council. What
- 49:04Speaker 1: grows in the forest trees, Sure you know what else
- 49:08Speaker 1: grows in the forest, Our imagination, our sense of wonder,
- 49:12Speaker 1: and our family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect
- 49:15Speaker 1: from this and connect with this, we reconnect with each other.
- 49:22Speaker 1: The forest is closer than you think. Find a forest
- 49:25Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. I discover the Forest dot Org,
- 49:29Speaker 1: brought to you by the United States Forest Service and
- 49:32Speaker 1: the AD Council. Awesome. But also, let's let's talk about
- 49:35Speaker 1: reality coming into it, because there was a lot of
- 49:37Speaker 1: negative about being that reality game. You know, it wasn't real,
- 49:41Speaker 1: it was it was cheesy, it was offensive, a lot
- 49:45Speaker 1: of the a lot of the shows were really aggressive.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Also show black women in a very negative light. So
- 49:51Speaker 1: how did you, being a guy who's a fan of
- 49:54Speaker 1: reality TV, how did you say, did you have a
- 49:57Speaker 1: vision call us when you came on board to say
- 49:59Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do that type of reality TV? This
- 50:01Speaker 1: is where I want to approach you. Talk about that
- 50:03Speaker 1: whole approach of organizing, that thought process of you coming
- 50:06Speaker 1: into the reality game. Okay, cool, I'm with you, Okay cool.
- 50:12Speaker 1: So when I got my start in reality TV again,
- 50:17Speaker 1: my first show was The Real Housewife in Atlanta, And
- 50:21Speaker 1: obviously that was a very entertaining show that had a
- 50:24Speaker 1: lot of arguments and big fights and things like that,
- 50:27Speaker 1: because that show wasn't produced by a company that I started.
- 50:32Speaker 1: I was a worker b who followed the guidelines of
- 50:36Speaker 1: how to produce that particular show, and the moment I
- 50:40Speaker 1: became the executive producer of that show, a ship happened
- 50:44Speaker 1: in my thought of let's make it less about these
- 50:48Speaker 1: cat fights and more about what's happening inside the households
- 50:51Speaker 1: of these people, so that the season that I became
- 50:55Speaker 1: the executive producer is the highest rated season of that
- 50:59Speaker 1: show to date. The moment that happened is when I
- 51:04Speaker 1: decided to start my company, Kingdom Right Entertainment, because I
- 51:08Speaker 1: did have a consciousness of saying I know a lot
- 51:12Speaker 1: of black people who wanted the reality TV, but they
- 51:15Speaker 1: think they have to sell their soul and have a
- 51:18Speaker 1: physical altercation to make that happen, and I wanted to
- 51:23Speaker 1: be the alternative to that. So when you watch Love
- 51:26Speaker 1: and Marriage Hunts Bill, for example, you see these beautiful
- 51:31Speaker 1: black people who are successful. That's only showing you what
- 51:35Speaker 1: really is happening in their lives, in their households. And
- 51:39Speaker 1: that show has become the number one show on the network,
- 51:43Speaker 1: and there has not been a physical altercation on that show.
- 51:48Speaker 1: So that proves of people. When you build something that
- 51:52Speaker 1: is true to you, people will come. Well it was
- 51:56Speaker 1: it was one that came close well, I believe when
- 51:59Speaker 1: where all Tail was on the patio with with Melody
- 52:04Speaker 1: and he told her why she why he cheated on
- 52:08Speaker 1: her because she blah blah blah blah, and she threw
- 52:11Speaker 1: some man, m come on, call us, call them. I
- 52:16Speaker 1: had to shot out that scared y'all. Call that scared y'all. No,
- 52:20Speaker 1: you are accurate. So was what was very tally about
- 52:25Speaker 1: that bump man call listen. You don't tell no black
- 52:32Speaker 1: woman come on now, another woman does better. That's where
- 52:37Speaker 1: I got from it, and I think a lot of
- 52:40Speaker 1: men watch that show and said I'm gonna keep my
- 52:42Speaker 1: mouth shut, dude to call us. When he said that,
- 52:45Speaker 1: I was like, are you kidding me? Dude? Are you
- 52:48Speaker 1: really kidding me? In front of friends, cameras are rolling
- 52:54Speaker 1: and you're gonna see this to Melody and she's not
- 52:57Speaker 1: going to react on this show. I saw that bad
- 53:00Speaker 1: when if I if I you know, you know when
- 53:02Speaker 1: you growing up calls you your your your parents are
- 53:04Speaker 1: popping in the back of the head. They should have popped.
- 53:07Speaker 1: So one of you should have came out of the audience.
- 53:09Speaker 1: You should came out from the can and say, I'm
- 53:11Speaker 1: gonna tell them about do something that your parents did
- 53:13Speaker 1: to you when you was a kid. I'm a pop
- 53:15Speaker 1: you in the back of your big dumbhead. I laughed
- 53:18Speaker 1: so but I also felt so bad because I went, dude,
- 53:22Speaker 1: you know that was that was uncalled for. But that
- 53:25Speaker 1: that's the closest you've come on that show. Because she
- 53:27Speaker 1: threw something. I swear to you, she threw it for real.
- 53:31Speaker 1: She threw that in for real. She she has good aim.
- 53:34Speaker 1: I'll say that. Well, the beauty of you callers is that,
- 53:39Speaker 1: you know, Oprah Winfred you said early in your conversation
- 53:42Speaker 1: that you watched The Growing Up and I'm gonna just
- 53:45Speaker 1: share an example of me. Sometimes when you get in
- 53:48Speaker 1: the position you meet stars or you and you kind
- 53:51Speaker 1: of like pull back a little bit. You feel like
- 53:54Speaker 1: in the rain though I don't really belong here, just
- 53:56Speaker 1: really happening to me. And then you realize, hey, this stop, stop,
- 54:01Speaker 1: stop all that ignorance. It's happening to you because your
- 54:03Speaker 1: work has put you there. Just happen to you because
- 54:06Speaker 1: the respect has put you there. It's happening to you
- 54:08Speaker 1: because you're supposed to be there. When did all that
- 54:11Speaker 1: coming to you? Because because I know you, we share
- 54:14Speaker 1: similar qualities, so we both are humble, you know. I
- 54:17Speaker 1: come from a nerdy background, you know, and and uh
- 54:20Speaker 1: some people I tell people I was shot and you
- 54:22Speaker 1: never shot. Where it's yes I was, you know, Yes
- 54:25Speaker 1: I was, Yes I was, you know, And so I
- 54:27Speaker 1: just had to fight through it and then realized that
- 54:30Speaker 1: my opinion mattered. In my opinion matters, then you have
- 54:33Speaker 1: to tell people what your opinion is. And that's who
- 54:35Speaker 1: you are. So when you elevate yourself to do this
- 54:38Speaker 1: behind the scenes for Oprah, when were your thought process
- 54:42Speaker 1: and where did you come to coming to to introspective
- 54:46Speaker 1: about yourself as a talent and where you are at
- 54:48Speaker 1: in that point of your career. You know what was
- 54:52Speaker 1: so interesting is I'm a man of faith, and I
- 54:55Speaker 1: believe in prayer, and I believe and and and just
- 54:58Speaker 1: you know, believing in God and praying to him. So
- 55:01Speaker 1: to be a kid watching Oprah Winfrey show, and then
- 55:05Speaker 1: that gave later having the opportunity to I tell people
- 55:10Speaker 1: all the time, I got paid to follow her around. Right,
- 55:13Speaker 1: That's that's that's a good job. I So the moment
- 55:20Speaker 1: I was around her to me gave me the the
- 55:25Speaker 1: confirmation that God was saying to me, I want you
- 55:30Speaker 1: to see what's possible and and I want you to
- 55:34Speaker 1: shadow a woman you look up to a black billionaire
- 55:40Speaker 1: because I am seeding the steps in terms of how
- 55:44Speaker 1: I see you being. And I took that as a
- 55:49Speaker 1: way of saying, I now know what I have to do,
- 55:53Speaker 1: and that truly, truly, truly, truly gave me the permission
- 55:58Speaker 1: that I needed from my internal self to say I
- 56:01Speaker 1: can do this because I saw someone else do it.
- 56:03Speaker 1: And then a couple of years after that, I had
- 56:07Speaker 1: to um follow Tyler Perry in the same way when
- 56:11Speaker 1: he got to the own network and I had that
- 56:14Speaker 1: same conference, Uh we need your Carlos can say they
- 56:22Speaker 1: follow Open len Frey and Tyler Perry like not everyone
- 56:27Speaker 1: can say that. So I use that as the way
- 56:30Speaker 1: of saying, you have a gift and God is preparing
- 56:34Speaker 1: you for something bigger. Well, you know the interesting thing
- 56:36Speaker 1: when I when I listened to you talk and well,
- 56:39Speaker 1: if everything is a journey, and you know that call
- 56:41Speaker 1: us you know, because we all dream, we all hope,
- 56:43Speaker 1: we pray and but it's the work ethic and then
- 56:46Speaker 1: it's what you've been given because each network has a
- 56:49Speaker 1: different budget. A lot of people you would love to
- 56:51Speaker 1: think you work with the same budget on TV one,
- 56:54Speaker 1: a Netflix or own, a BT they all have different budget,
- 56:57Speaker 1: but you have you still have to deliver a first
- 56:59Speaker 1: class prob jack. So how do you work with the
- 57:02Speaker 1: budgets on that the that are given to you? And
- 57:04Speaker 1: then how do you assess? How do your staff and
- 57:08Speaker 1: you know, do you call in favors? Sometimes you don't
- 57:11Speaker 1: take care of you on this and come come take
- 57:13Speaker 1: care of me on this? How does that work? Because Bill,
- 57:15Speaker 1: in your brain is about relationships. I know that for
- 57:18Speaker 1: a fact, and relationships have helped me when I when
- 57:21Speaker 1: when I've transitioned in my career. Relationship about helping you.
- 57:24Speaker 1: But now you're the guy who who you. You're the
- 57:26Speaker 1: hip maker. Now you're the HP maker. So people expect
- 57:29Speaker 1: you to get when they come to you, to get paid.
- 57:31Speaker 1: So those little requests they obticually won't. Hey, man, I
- 57:35Speaker 1: remember remember me when I took care of you? So
- 57:37Speaker 1: how does that work with you? Because now you ever
- 57:39Speaker 1: first look deal with own and that qualifies you as uh,
- 57:42Speaker 1: that's the ultimate man when somebody say, look, we're just
- 57:44Speaker 1: gonna give you a deal to create shows, and that's
- 57:48Speaker 1: the blessing of your journey. And so talk about that
- 57:50Speaker 1: when you when it was approached to you, and what
- 57:53Speaker 1: were the first thoughts that ran through your mind when
- 57:55Speaker 1: owned said here's the first look, first look deal for
- 57:57Speaker 1: you and your company. Kingdom Rain entertained it was. It
- 58:03Speaker 1: was magical because my company became what we call him
- 58:08Speaker 1: the business, a full service production company, which means that
- 58:13Speaker 1: the buck stops here. We don't we don't have a
- 58:16Speaker 1: co production with another like everything begins and ends with
- 58:20Speaker 1: Kingdom Rank Entertainment. So to have that within the first
- 58:25Speaker 1: year of launching the company is nothing but God's favor
- 58:29Speaker 1: on my life. So I needed that in order to
- 58:34Speaker 1: show the marketplace right that I am the little engine
- 58:38Speaker 1: that could. This black man who owns his own company,
- 58:42Speaker 1: has the has the respect of Oprah. Winfrey was saying,
- 58:47Speaker 1: I want you Tobe create shows for my network. So
- 58:51Speaker 1: when you talk about budgets with other networks, yeah, you
- 58:56Speaker 1: have to definitely, you know Rob Peter, you know, Getting
- 59:01Speaker 1: Paul and all those things, because you know you have
- 59:05Speaker 1: to use what's given to you. And that can be challenging.
- 59:08Speaker 1: And yes, you have a call in favors from people
- 59:09Speaker 1: who you kind of grew up with in the business.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Like you said, relationships are key, so I have Well,
- 59:16Speaker 1: the beauty of you, my friend, is this. You know
- 59:19Speaker 1: you You're You're master the world. I can't do you know.
- 59:22Speaker 1: And and that's a good thing because like I said,
- 59:25Speaker 1: you know, it means you're you're creating a brand. And
- 59:28Speaker 1: all the years of working with different projects, which one
- 59:32Speaker 1: challenge you the most. I'm talking about not a negative challenge,
- 59:34Speaker 1: but production wires and creatively And you went, Wow, that
- 59:38Speaker 1: was a lot of work, man, But I'm glad I
- 59:39Speaker 1: got it done. Which project of all the projects you've
- 59:41Speaker 1: done that really pushed you creatively and really test your
- 59:46Speaker 1: personality and your sanity. I think I said that right.
- 59:52Speaker 1: I think I got it really right. So you can
- 59:54Speaker 1: say a good response, okay U. I had a show
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: a BT called BT persentson Encore last week. We had
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Our Sees the Finality absolutely and that was the most
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: challenging show to date of my career because I had
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: to it was a house reality show and we had
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: thirty days to shoot a show twenty four seven for
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: thirty days of these former girl group members living in
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: a house together to form a supergroup, and you're dealing
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: with personalities and music and again it's around the clock
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: for thirty days. And that pushed me to a place
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: that I didn't know existed in terms of my brain
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: having the capacity to handle this. And and it was
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: such a good gift to to have UM because it
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: allowed me to want to push things further. And the
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: shows I'm producing wells interesting thing about it, because you
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: were dealing with some level of frustration with talent, you know,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: who felt that they should be bigger or felt that
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: they were wrong. And they see this and some of
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: them say yes to doing things, But then I don't
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: want to do the work, you know, you know, you know,
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: if that's the point that frustrate you, why are you here?
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Then well, you know, why why are you wasting my time?
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: I'm not gonna curry, but why are you wasting my time?
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: That's the part that makes you mad. Okay, you knew
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: what you were signing up for, now you now you
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: got the attitude, okay, But the thing that really came
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: into players is COVID. You had to produce all these
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: shows under these conditions of testing and multiple testing and
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: the beauty of saying what Tyler Perry did, He he
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: kind of like wrote the template by compile and put
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: a hotel on it, you know, saying and then imprison
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: your cast for two weeks and then send them off
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: working Twitter four hour day and set them all wrap
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: twenty four episodes. And so with that being the case,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: how did it affect your production and how and what
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: did you what did you gain from it as a producer?
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Call us listen safety first one, You're dealing with a
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: global pandemic, so yes, we have to be multiple testing,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: you know. Thankfully everyone was negative and we were able
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: to make sure that our cast and crew was safe
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: for all the productions we have going on the Kingdom
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Rain Entertainment. But that was the greatest thing about it
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: as well. But no, it allowed everybody to know that
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: there is a necessity for unscripted in this business because
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: my counterparts and Scripted did not have the right to
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: to do this because it was such an expensive feed.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: So unscripted we did. Now with that been saying, my friend,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: m a hit show when you do this. This is
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: all the favorite asked man, you know, whenever you do
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: these things are rap shows. At the end of the season,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: show just consider your boys. One of your hosts. I
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: come on in, man, you gotta you got the first look.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Then just considered the man in the suit. Well you know, brother,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: watch the shows called I come in and hosted man,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: and I know everybody that cans, they know me and
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: we'll do our think. Oh thank you. But I just
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: want to tell you, but I respect you man. One
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: day we will meet. But the beauty of what you do, man,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: I so respect and I and it's just the quality
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: of work and send you make this transition because at
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: one time reality was a bad thing. It was a
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: bad thing, was a very negative thing, and you turned
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: it with your skill, with your eye and forced other
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: people to follow your lead. Thank you, Thank you call
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: us for doing that. Thank you so much. So I
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: appreciate that. I appreciate. If you want to hear or

- 1:04:09Speaker 1: The Shot. During my interview with her, we talked about
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: the importance of getting good advice looking at you and
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: and and Steve Harvey. You know, that motivated me too
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: because I would see all the amazing things you guys
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: were doing it not just being on the radio at
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: that time, and even now, you know, people want to
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: put people in boxes, like if you're on the radio,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: that's all you do. If you're a producer, that's all
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: you do. If you're on TV, that's all you do.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: And Steve was one of the first people, along with
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: you know, your help to break those barriers and show
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: people you can do a lot of different things and
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: be great at it. And that's what I wanted to do.
