- 1:33Speaker 1: for the very first time, Dion Taylor Man, thank you
- 1:38Speaker 1: so much for me. Thank you, Hey, Dion, there was
- 1:42Speaker 1: a lot of titles I throughout that Now, So which
- 1:44Speaker 1: one do you own up to? Writer, filmmaker, director, idea generator?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Which one of those titles you claiming today? Real person? Awesome, awesome,
- 1:56Speaker 1: real person? What is real person? Come from? Where you're
- 2:01Speaker 1: based from? Uh? These ideas that you started generating? Where
- 2:05Speaker 1: were you boring it'? I'm I'm I'm born in Chicago, Illinois.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I'm raised in Gary, Indiana. UM spent a lot of
- 2:12Speaker 1: time now in in northern California, ended up um moving
- 2:17Speaker 1: there and living there for for a while now, but
- 2:21Speaker 1: still all my families in the Midwest. Um, so I'm
- 2:24Speaker 1: kind of like a I have a cluster of different
- 2:27Speaker 1: energies around me. Man. You know, the Midwest is born
- 2:30Speaker 1: and bred and me. But then at the same time,
- 2:32Speaker 1: I have to got the energy in the in the
- 2:35Speaker 1: in the in the passion from the from the northern
- 2:38Speaker 1: California world as well. It's interesting, you know, writer, producer
- 2:43Speaker 1: that sitcoms and produce movies, and people always ask me.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I tried to. I can't really give them a journey
- 2:49Speaker 1: on how they could be successful because I was a
- 2:51Speaker 1: former stand up comic, my degree in mathematics and uh
- 2:54Speaker 1: managed Steve Harvey. So what what was your path to
- 2:57Speaker 1: getting too where you are right now? What some of
- 3:00Speaker 1: the steps that you took a people who helped you
- 3:03Speaker 1: get to where you're at today. Well, you know, my
- 3:07Speaker 1: my background is really different, man. I was I was
- 3:11Speaker 1: playing ball. Man, I'm a basketball player, and uh, from
- 3:14Speaker 1: my entire life, that's what I did coming out of Gary,
- 3:17Speaker 1: That's what I did throughout high school. That's what I did.
- 3:20Speaker 1: End up being good enough to actually get a shot
- 3:23Speaker 1: to play overseas and you know, playing professional ball. And
- 3:27Speaker 1: while I was over there. You know, you never ever
- 3:30Speaker 1: have an idea, man, like what guy has in store
- 3:33Speaker 1: for you. That's why you just gotta always keep your
- 3:35Speaker 1: eyes opening, your energy open as well to receive. Um.
- 3:39Speaker 1: While I was over there, man, I just always have
- 3:41Speaker 1: been a fan of film. Love movies, man, like every
- 3:46Speaker 1: other kid that could quote movies, same movies. Man, My
- 3:49Speaker 1: friends get thrown out of class in high school for
- 3:52Speaker 1: being silly doing movies, you know. And uh, here I
- 3:55Speaker 1: am man overseas in Germany playing ball, and uh at
- 3:59Speaker 1: the time, my girlfriend what she was doing was she
- 4:01Speaker 1: was sending me DVDs and I would get these DVDs
- 4:04Speaker 1: and watch the movies. And because I didn't speak the
- 4:06Speaker 1: language and the and the television was in German, I
- 4:10Speaker 1: ended up going through the movie so fast. I started
- 4:12Speaker 1: watching the making of those movies, so making up DVDs. Um,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you know, bonus feats, are ats, like all those types
- 4:20Speaker 1: of things is what I would scan through. And uh,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I became more interested in like how movies were made
- 4:26Speaker 1: and actually watching them. So I would actually watched that
- 4:29Speaker 1: person did watch the film, and um, little did I know, man,
- 4:33Speaker 1: I was, you know, going through a metamorphosis. Man, I
- 4:36Speaker 1: was transforming right there, in that moment in time in
- 4:40Speaker 1: Germany into a filmmaker and did did not know it.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Um ended up finishing, you know, playing over there and
- 4:47Speaker 1: ended up writing the screenplay which I thought was the
- 4:50Speaker 1: screenplay really was just an idea of a movie on
- 4:53Speaker 1: a me tablet brought it back. I went to California, like, Yo,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna go get this movie made, and I everybody
- 5:00Speaker 1: I know it was like, Yo, what what are you
- 5:01Speaker 1: talking about? I'm like, man, I got the script, I
- 5:04Speaker 1: got an idea. Let me see the script. And look, man,
- 5:06Speaker 1: it's some words written under tablet. I'm like, Yo, this
- 5:08Speaker 1: is dope. But I was able to pitch it and
- 5:11Speaker 1: people was like, man, that's a really good idea for
- 5:12Speaker 1: a movie. Man, and uh. I took that man and
- 5:15Speaker 1: went to Hollywood, and for like two years, everywhere I went,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I was told no, laugh at you know what I mean, Like,
- 5:22Speaker 1: what are you talking about? That's how you do. What
- 5:24Speaker 1: you need to do is like you gotta write script,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and here's how you write script. And I learned in
- 5:29Speaker 1: the fly man. Eventually, UM, after about three years of
- 5:33Speaker 1: really trying to pursue this particular idea that I had
- 5:37Speaker 1: has met everybody in the world that you're not supposed
- 5:39Speaker 1: to meet. You know what I mean that all the
- 5:42Speaker 1: people like, yo, you met that dude, that's the words
- 5:44Speaker 1: dude on the planet. I'm like, yn, Okay, well I've
- 5:46Speaker 1: met him place, you know, And went around and around
- 5:49Speaker 1: and finally, man, a young man came to me one day.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I was like, man, listen, a good guy, man, and
- 5:55Speaker 1: you really I was trying to do it the right way.
- 5:57Speaker 1: He was like, let me just be honest with you.
- 5:59Speaker 1: He's like, to see studios, they're not gonna make your move.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Brobbly Like, for you to make it, you're gonna have
- 6:04Speaker 1: to go make your own film. Hely, what do you mean,
- 6:07Speaker 1: what do you mean to make my own film? He's like,
- 6:09Speaker 1: you gotta go get your money right, just scrimp and
- 6:13Speaker 1: go make your movie. And I had never heard of
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I never even thought about
- 6:19Speaker 1: it that way. I just thought you could go and
- 6:21Speaker 1: and uh man. That changed my entire trajectory of what
- 6:25Speaker 1: I was doing and how I was doing it. And
- 6:28Speaker 1: a year later, Man, instead of me going to knocking
- 6:30Speaker 1: on doors and asking people, could you please give me,
- 6:34Speaker 1: could you please help me? Could you please take good
- 6:36Speaker 1: chance on me. The conversation directly went from me saying, Hey,
- 6:41Speaker 1: let me put my money together, let me find people
- 6:43Speaker 1: that could invest in me in my project, and uh scrape, scratch, crawl,
- 6:49Speaker 1: do whatever I need to do and make my own movie.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And that's what I did, man, in the first the
- 6:55Speaker 1: first film set, the first movie set. The first time
- 6:58Speaker 1: I was ever in a production. It was mine and
- 7:02Speaker 1: I knew nothing else since that point, man, And as
- 7:05Speaker 1: I was going, you know, so I've been two fourteen years,
- 7:08Speaker 1: that's been the course I've been on the entire time. Awesome. Now,
- 7:13Speaker 1: when I I wanted to say to his background, he's
- 7:15Speaker 1: worked with talent like Naomi Harris, Michael Coulter or my culture.
- 7:20Speaker 1: You know him. That's a man, Luke Cage, Uh making good,
- 7:29Speaker 1: Michael Eally. Then it's Quaid Hilary Swank, Graw Butler, Robert
- 7:34Speaker 1: Downey Jr. This is from a guy who was in
- 7:37Speaker 1: Germany watching video tapes, got together and didn't let no
- 7:42Speaker 1: dream killer getting his way. When he wrote his idea down,
- 7:45Speaker 1: that's what those dream killers are are rough out that
- 7:47Speaker 1: they everywhere. They could be your parents, they could be
- 7:49Speaker 1: your friends, they could be your cousins, your co workers,
- 7:52Speaker 1: people sitting right next to you. Always tell people to
- 7:54Speaker 1: dream killer can be you when you look in the
- 7:56Speaker 1: mirror if you start believing what they say. And so
- 7:59Speaker 1: here's the un Taylor sitting over there playing basketball. See,
- 8:04Speaker 1: always telling people you don't know where your success is
- 8:07Speaker 1: gonna come from, or we're gonna drive you to success.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But he has a new movie starring Michael Eally making
- 8:14Speaker 1: good then it's Quaid called The Intruder. Tell us about
- 8:18Speaker 1: that movie, tell us about the cast in that movie,
- 8:21Speaker 1: because Michael Eally was just on the show. So I
- 8:23Speaker 1: know about the movie, and I know the talents of
- 8:25Speaker 1: Michael really, and he was just telling me how great
- 8:28Speaker 1: this movie. And Dennis Quite I know him because he
- 8:30Speaker 1: and I graduated from the same college, University of Houston.
- 8:33Speaker 1: So I got some relationships with you, d Taylor. Okay, man,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I love it. Man. Look here's the thing, the movie,
- 8:41Speaker 1: The Intruder. Man, I feel like you know, and I'm
- 8:43Speaker 1: saying this because this is you know, at this point
- 8:48Speaker 1: I'm giving it to you. This is fourteen years in
- 8:51Speaker 1: the making in terms of like me getting to that show,
- 8:53Speaker 1: making that movie. Um, you know, every time you do something, man,
- 8:59Speaker 1: you try to one up it. You know what I mean.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You're trying to grow. You trying to figure out how
- 9:02Speaker 1: do you do it better as a filmmaker, as a writer,
- 9:05Speaker 1: as an actor, as an entertainers, Like how do I
- 9:08Speaker 1: keep getting better? And um, I was just finishing the
- 9:11Speaker 1: movie traffic Um, and the script was handed to me
- 9:15Speaker 1: by producer named Mark Bird, and he was like, man,
- 9:19Speaker 1: the I just keep thinking about you. I got this screenplay.
- 9:22Speaker 1: He was like, no one would get this but you.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And he was like, just reading it, tell him what
- 9:26Speaker 1: you think. And I remember reading it on my phone
- 9:28Speaker 1: and I finished reading it, like in thirty five minutes,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and I said, man, this is incredible. And what I
- 9:33Speaker 1: loved about the screenplay was it was unconventional. It was different.
- 9:40Speaker 1: It was a thriller, but at the same time, inside
- 9:43Speaker 1: of the screenplay, I love this this polst of this guy,
- 9:47Speaker 1: Charlie Peck, this guy just kept bothering these people. And
- 9:51Speaker 1: although you're a film fan, you love movies, you know
- 9:54Speaker 1: what I mean? You love you love get Out? Did
- 9:57Speaker 1: you love the Signing? You know? Any of these cool
- 10:00Speaker 1: movie that you could think of prior right, every film
- 10:03Speaker 1: has and antagging is something that you like. Man, we
- 10:06Speaker 1: got get rid of that thing, you know what I mean.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And I had never read anything that was like locked
- 10:13Speaker 1: into a location like that, and I said, Man, this
- 10:15Speaker 1: is great, and Blake gotta do everything else. Man. After
- 10:20Speaker 1: reading that, I said, I want to make this film.
- 10:22Speaker 1: And you know, obviously now everything has to happen. You know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I am. I am the only one independent filmmaker and
- 10:32Speaker 1: studio brand in Hollywood right now doing this. So every
- 10:37Speaker 1: movie that I made, I have to go get the financing.
- 10:39Speaker 1: One I'm casting, you know, through relationships. I'm reaching out
- 10:45Speaker 1: to cinematographers through emails right like, I'm that guy. And
- 10:50Speaker 1: nothing has changed. The only thing that's happened now is
- 10:52Speaker 1: there's a resume where people now when I write the
- 10:55Speaker 1: letter or reach out, people like, oh I know who
- 10:57Speaker 1: you are, you know what I mean? Or I've heard
- 10:59Speaker 1: it and hold that thought. We're gonna go to break
- 11:01Speaker 1: and we're gonna come back. We're gonna finish. Talking about
- 11:03Speaker 1: this is Dean Taylor, director of the great movie that
- 11:06Speaker 1: that stars Michael Eally then his Quaid making good as
- 11:09Speaker 1: in theaters called The Intruder. Also, we're gonna talk about
- 11:12Speaker 1: some more movies that he has coming back on this
- 11:14Speaker 1: slate and then he's also doing Uh, I guess a
- 11:18Speaker 1: sequel to meet the Blacks that we need to be
- 11:21Speaker 1: talking about as well, busy man. It all started by
- 11:24Speaker 1: playing basketball in Germany. Dion Taylor, Hi, this ra Sean McDonald.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You're listening to money making conversation on the phone. Is
- 11:34Speaker 1: Dean Taylor. He's the director of this great thriller. Mike
- 11:38Speaker 1: Ealer was on my show. Michael Eiler was on the show,
- 11:41Speaker 1: uh this past episode talking about how excited it was
- 11:44Speaker 1: to be a part of this movie. And also starts
- 11:46Speaker 1: Dennis Quaid as I guess the dysfunctional neighbor who sells
- 11:51Speaker 1: them the home and then making good plays. Uh. She
- 11:54Speaker 1: wanted to buy the home and Michael Eally characters buys
- 11:58Speaker 1: the home for her, but it comes with things that
- 12:00Speaker 1: they didn't expect. And the script is introduced to him
- 12:03Speaker 1: by I wasn't have a good friend of my producer,
- 12:06Speaker 1: Mike Berg. If you don't know uh, Mark Burg, excuse
- 12:09Speaker 1: me if you don't know him. And he's the creative
- 12:12Speaker 1: the Sauce series, very popular Saul series that has changed
- 12:17Speaker 1: the game of horror in the Hollywood. And so they're
- 12:20Speaker 1: using the heart in the midst of it. Like like
- 12:22Speaker 1: relationships get you to these different points. And you started
- 12:26Speaker 1: and people were telling you what you couldn't do, but
- 12:28Speaker 1: you really what what what made you say ignored them
- 12:32Speaker 1: when they was telling you, Man, you're crazy. Man, you
- 12:35Speaker 1: wasted your time. Man, this is not gonna get done.
- 12:38Speaker 1: What made you walk through all that negativity? Man? I
- 12:43Speaker 1: think I think to be honest man, just my upbringing. Um,
- 12:47Speaker 1: you know when you come from nothing, you know, when
- 12:50Speaker 1: you come from poverty. You know, my mom raised me man,
- 12:53Speaker 1: single single mom, single family home, me and my brother.
- 12:58Speaker 1: She raised boys. And uh, I'm talking about in the
- 13:01Speaker 1: heart man, in Chicago, heart of gear Indanna. When you
- 13:04Speaker 1: you come from nothing, man, you got a strong mom,
- 13:07Speaker 1: strong parent and you see them work, you know, get
- 13:12Speaker 1: through adversity. When you had your lights, you know, set
- 13:15Speaker 1: off power, set off for two or three days and
- 13:18Speaker 1: she's still going to work and night times by candle
- 13:21Speaker 1: light and you you know, warm the house up with
- 13:23Speaker 1: the oven. Uh. You learn that you learn to fight
- 13:28Speaker 1: through things, man. You learn that you learn that listen
- 13:30Speaker 1: to what people gotta say. You you you understand what
- 13:33Speaker 1: it means to push you know what I mean, and
- 13:37Speaker 1: find success and you apply that to your daily life,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you know, and then you apply that to when you
- 13:43Speaker 1: play sports. You know, basketballs, you know, everybody play who
- 13:47Speaker 1: what makes you better? What makes you get through? You
- 13:49Speaker 1: don't make the team? Do you quit? You do you
- 13:52Speaker 1: try out to make sure, you know what I mean?
- 13:54Speaker 1: And I think all of those things become a combination
- 13:57Speaker 1: in my life to where, yeah, I get older and
- 14:01Speaker 1: you know, years old, you're like, you're opened to be
- 14:04Speaker 1: a director. Everybody, let make it. Tell her us get
- 14:07Speaker 1: out of here. Man. You're like, well, I am that
- 14:09Speaker 1: what we do. And then what you're realized, man, is
- 14:13Speaker 1: people go from laughing to watch it, from watching to
- 14:19Speaker 1: having a conversation with you about it, and then ultimately
- 14:22Speaker 1: they go to praising what you just went through, what
- 14:25Speaker 1: you did, you know what I mean. And that's a
- 14:27Speaker 1: big deal, man, that's a big deal when you can
- 14:30Speaker 1: make when you can make the haters become fans, you
- 14:33Speaker 1: know what I mean. And it's not about it's not
- 14:35Speaker 1: about you becoming some iconic star. It's just the fact
- 14:39Speaker 1: that you said you're gonna do something that no one
- 14:41Speaker 1: else wanted to do or was willing to try and
- 14:44Speaker 1: fail at. And you have to fail a bunch of times.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I can't tell you all the stories, man, I can't
- 14:50Speaker 1: tell you all the the sleepless nights. I can't tell
- 14:53Speaker 1: you how many times you know, you know, uh, seventy
- 14:56Speaker 1: one cents on pump three. You know what I mean.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I can't tell you. I can't tell you all those things, man,
- 15:02Speaker 1: that you have to fight through in order to keep going.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And you keep going by basically keeping your mind motivated,
- 15:07Speaker 1: like yo, keep going, keep going in there. You gotta
- 15:10Speaker 1: you gotta word to pay the bills. You gotta figure
- 15:13Speaker 1: out other hustles to make things go, but you gotta
- 15:15Speaker 1: continue pushing on that dream. And what she said earlier
- 15:19Speaker 1: is so true. Man, dream killers, you know what I mean.
- 15:23Speaker 1: You call him whatever you want to call him, but
- 15:25Speaker 1: you can't let anyone come contaminate your dream. You can't
- 15:29Speaker 1: let anyone knock you down and be like, you can't
- 15:31Speaker 1: do that. I don't care if it's a teacher, auntie,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You just think, Man, when
- 15:35Speaker 1: you play sports, the first thing they tell you this, man,
- 15:38Speaker 1: you gotta have a bad plan. You're trying to play
- 15:40Speaker 1: basketball one and eight. Keep it's gonna be to the NBA.
- 15:44Speaker 1: You know and even like, man, that's cool. I understand,
- 15:47Speaker 1: you know I mean, but man, let me try. You
- 15:49Speaker 1: know what I mean. I do understand the backup plan,
- 15:52Speaker 1: But right now I'm gonna get this everything I have.
- 15:54Speaker 1: You know what I mean. I want them to tell
- 15:56Speaker 1: me you ain't getting in you know what I mean.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Not you tell me to day I ain't making it,
- 16:01Speaker 1: you know. So I just think it's a beautiful thing, man,
- 16:04Speaker 1: when you pursue it, and then what happens is what
- 16:06Speaker 1: I believe is when you pursue something wholeheartedly and you
- 16:11Speaker 1: go after it as hard as you can. I believe
- 16:14Speaker 1: the universe gives you passes to different worlds. You might
- 16:20Speaker 1: you might start off today like I did, say. You know,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I'm a basketball player. That's I drive the ball, I shoot,
- 16:25Speaker 1: I dunk. This is my thing. Man, I'm really good.
- 16:27Speaker 1: You go after that so hard. Sometimes the universe might
- 16:30Speaker 1: put you in a situation where you oversee and you
- 16:32Speaker 1: put a movie in the DVD plaint and be like, man,
- 16:35Speaker 1: I love this. This is dope. I never in my
- 16:37Speaker 1: life thought I would pursue something as hard as basketball.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And here it is film, you know what I mean?
- 16:43Speaker 1: And here it is now as I do film. Now
- 16:45Speaker 1: I'm going like, man, what's next? And now it becomes philanthropy,
- 16:49Speaker 1: helping people, educating people, empowering our people, because that's what
- 16:53Speaker 1: we don't do it up. So it's just a it's
- 16:56Speaker 1: it's an interesting time, man. Well it's a beautiful time
- 16:58Speaker 1: because the passion is there and the fact that that's
- 17:01Speaker 1: why I do this show money making conversation to give
- 17:03Speaker 1: a voice behind the lens and the layer of why
- 17:06Speaker 1: these journeys mean something. Now, let's get back to the
- 17:08Speaker 1: movie we started about. We started talking about it at
- 17:11Speaker 1: the end of the first break Stars Making Good Stars
- 17:15Speaker 1: Michael Elis stars. It's called The Intruders in Theaters. What
- 17:19Speaker 1: can we expect from that movie? And how did the
- 17:22Speaker 1: casting come about? So so the movie is uh, the
- 17:26Speaker 1: movie is um. It's an incredible thriller man with so
- 17:30Speaker 1: many layers. Um. Once I read the script and selling
- 17:34Speaker 1: over with the script, I actually Megan diod was like
- 17:37Speaker 1: the first on my list. I had reached out to
- 17:40Speaker 1: Megan before. I had wanted to do something with her
- 17:42Speaker 1: and our schedules in the line, and when I read this,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I said, man, this will be great for her. The
- 17:46Speaker 1: script of Reasoning was not written with the black cast,
- 17:50Speaker 1: so that was what I did. I might know there's
- 17:52Speaker 1: gotta be some affluent black people, because I said, man,
- 17:55Speaker 1: it would be really really good to see us in
- 17:57Speaker 1: this light, you know what I mean, where they their
- 18:00Speaker 1: own businesses, they worked their own jobs, and oh, by
- 18:02Speaker 1: the way, they get ready to buy a three million
- 18:04Speaker 1: hollar home, you know what I mean. So that was
- 18:07Speaker 1: the first thing. Michael Eally, I did not know him.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I just thought he would be great for this, and uh,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I reached out to him independently, and then I reached
- 18:15Speaker 1: out through his agents and teams, and we had a
- 18:17Speaker 1: couple of mutual friends. Some Gary Owen, the comedian, was
- 18:20Speaker 1: his friend. After we knew Gary from the Meet the
- 18:23Speaker 1: Black series. Gary knew him from UH Think Like a
- 18:27Speaker 1: Man series, and Gary was actually someone that told Mike, like, yo,
- 18:31Speaker 1: man Diana's dog, you should work with him, and uh
- 18:34Speaker 1: that was that how we got him. Dennis Quaid was
- 18:36Speaker 1: an interesting get man because when I read the script,
- 18:40Speaker 1: I thought Dennis Quaid was my first choice. Did not
- 18:43Speaker 1: know Dennis Quaid had no idea Dennis would even think
- 18:47Speaker 1: about doing a movie like this, and um, everyone was like, man,
- 18:50Speaker 1: he came in the Dennis Quais I don't do this,
- 18:52Speaker 1: you know. It was like why not? And I was like,
- 18:54Speaker 1: I wrote Dennis Quaid a letter, and I shared the
- 18:58Speaker 1: letter through his manager and his age and I gave
- 19:00Speaker 1: it to them a few times and said please. His
- 19:02Speaker 1: manager and agent got the letter, was like, man, this
- 19:05Speaker 1: is great. We're gonna send it to Dinner's gonna read it.
- 19:07Speaker 1: He read the letter, read the script. Next thing I know, man,
- 19:11Speaker 1: I was on a phone call with Dennis Quaid, this
- 19:15Speaker 1: Dennis Quaid, and I was like, oh my god, Quaid.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So I'm like dripping out. I'm talking to him on
- 19:22Speaker 1: the phone and he's like, man, I love the screenplay,
- 19:25Speaker 1: love your letter. When did we start? And that blew
- 19:30Speaker 1: my mind. There. It was a life mean, life changing
- 19:33Speaker 1: moment for me, you know what I mean, Not because
- 19:35Speaker 1: it was just you know, about getting him in the movie,
- 19:38Speaker 1: but what it was, man, when you when you black
- 19:40Speaker 1: or white, black or white, when you have an opportunity
- 19:44Speaker 1: man to work with someone that's legendary, you know what
- 19:48Speaker 1: I mean. And this is coming from a place to
- 19:49Speaker 1: wear and he don't need no job, you know what
- 19:52Speaker 1: I mean. It's one thing you get him, man, you
- 19:54Speaker 1: need a job like, no, this is Dennis Quaid. Man,
- 19:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean for him to pick up
- 19:59Speaker 1: the phone and call you to say, Man, I love
- 20:00Speaker 1: your vision and what you're talking about. I want you
- 20:03Speaker 1: to direct me in this. For me, it was the
- 20:05Speaker 1: first time while I was like, Man, okay, now the
- 20:10Speaker 1: heat is on. We've done all the running. You've been
- 20:12Speaker 1: running for fourteen years, you know what I mean, And
- 20:15Speaker 1: now you get to the start line now right then,
- 20:18Speaker 1: I'm working years. That was iconic for me, man, And
- 20:21Speaker 1: the movie was beautiful. So we got there. And I
- 20:24Speaker 1: would tell you, man, if you're an audience member and
- 20:27Speaker 1: you're listening to this show, if you want to see
- 20:29Speaker 1: something that makes you scream at the movie screen, this
- 20:34Speaker 1: is the movie. We This is the movie. If you're
- 20:37Speaker 1: a fan of The Shining, This is the movie. If
- 20:39Speaker 1: you're a fan of When a Stranger Cause, this is
- 20:42Speaker 1: the movie. If you love Get Out, this is the
- 20:45Speaker 1: movie right quiet place. Um, it has all of the
- 20:49Speaker 1: elements and that's everything. You're laughing, you're talking back to
- 20:53Speaker 1: the people on the in the movie, and ultimately at
- 20:56Speaker 1: the very end of the film, the bottom drops out
- 20:58Speaker 1: and you go, what the hell is going on? It's
- 21:02Speaker 1: that great. And we had a lady um in Kansas
- 21:06Speaker 1: City to nights ago pass out in the fever screaming.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And I tell you that experience for me as a
- 21:13Speaker 1: filmmaker was everything. Because you're like, oh, mass he okay, yeah,
- 21:18Speaker 1: she's good. We got it. We did it. You know
- 21:22Speaker 1: what I mean. You're like, yeah, but it's like, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: it's an incredible experience. Man. But making a movie like
- 21:27Speaker 1: this Man is not about you know, it's it's a
- 21:29Speaker 1: it's a combination of everything. It's a combination of you
- 21:32Speaker 1: knowing what you're doing as a filmmaker, the actors hitting
- 21:35Speaker 1: the ten, and then then it's the universe and guy saying, man,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you got lightning in the bottle for today, you know
- 21:41Speaker 1: what I mean. And that's what makes a special man.
- 21:43Speaker 1: And we did something really really special with this film, Man.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And what I'm most proud of is I promise you.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I promise you. This is like you know what you
- 21:54Speaker 1: talk about people's performance and films like we we talked
- 21:57Speaker 1: about The Shiny because of you know, Jack Jack Nicholson.
- 22:02Speaker 1: We talked about you know, Batman because if he's ledger
- 22:06Speaker 1: at times. This is the movie where you were talking
- 22:08Speaker 1: about Dennis quad and we'll we'll, we'll remember what he
- 22:12Speaker 1: did in this movie. It's incredible. An I gotta bring
- 22:17Speaker 1: you back talk about the other projects. Uh, you're special, brother,
