- 1:33Speaker 1: Marie Payton, Hello, we'll going good. First of all, you
- 1:40Speaker 1: know no you stay in. I let me tell you something.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I do eat a lot of dessert, So I scare
- 1:48Speaker 1: people because I'm a dessert before my dinner. I'm award
- 1:52Speaker 1: winning baker Joe Marie May And I know that if
- 1:54Speaker 1: you follow my foes Facebook, you get hungry because I
- 1:57Speaker 1: love the post food my staff yesterday for my staff.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Because I just bought a new building in Atlanta. I'm
- 2:02Speaker 1: very proud of say that life has been good to
- 2:05Speaker 1: thank you, and I made them, uh some of college green.
- 2:08Speaker 1: This is in my office now because I have a
- 2:09Speaker 1: four kitchen at my office. College greens with corn bread.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I served in this college greens of corn bread, red
- 2:15Speaker 1: beans or white rice. And then I had some for
- 2:18Speaker 1: heta strips chicken and beef. And then I had some
- 2:22Speaker 1: flower tortillas. That those are options. They can have a
- 2:24Speaker 1: little Mexican feasts with sal creams, mixed cheese, uh, some
- 2:29Speaker 1: pika the gao. So I'm just telling how I reash
- 2:34Speaker 1: on mcdonn rose in Atlanta, Georgia. When you come down here,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you're gonna know you're gonna a meal can be served.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So if you come interviewed to Joe Marie, if you
- 2:41Speaker 1: come by my office you say I'm hungry, you're talking
- 2:44Speaker 1: to the wrong person because I can deliver down to
- 2:54Speaker 1: a little bit more about to stop here. What you
- 2:59Speaker 1: do we gonna, Joe Mury, what you ain't gonna do?
- 3:03Speaker 1: I know we're doing the stream. I thought you're not
- 3:05Speaker 1: gonna come on my little show, money making conversation and
- 3:08Speaker 1: use the word throw down. You know I would, Joe Murray.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I'm legendary. I am on Facebook. People knew I walked
- 3:16Speaker 1: through the airport. They might know you to be a
- 3:18Speaker 1: television dog singer finger. People say, Mr Baker, Mr Baker.
- 3:24Speaker 1: That's they don't even know me. They don't even know
- 3:25Speaker 1: I do motivation on money, make conversation, Mr Baker, Mr Baker,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and so so I'm just letting you know, Mr Baker,
- 3:34Speaker 1: Mr Baker, that's what they called me, Mr Baker. So
- 3:36Speaker 1: when you say the word throw down, it really kind
- 3:38Speaker 1: of offends me because it makes because you don't know
- 3:41Speaker 1: who you're talking to. You don't know who you're talking to.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And so so I was throwing I was throwing back
- 3:46Speaker 1: to you, classy, but I had to step to you.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I step to you. That's step So Joe Mury, okay,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you the chair? How did all that come about? Beforehead?
- 3:57Speaker 1: I know you're a graduate of Alabama State College, which
- 4:00Speaker 1: is an hbc U. For He's is an HBCU as well.
- 4:04Speaker 1: We all know a lot of donations were given out
- 4:06Speaker 1: during this year to UH a lot of the colleges
- 4:09Speaker 1: and a lot of it's a hundred and four HBCU colleges.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So a lot of people know don't know that donation
- 4:15Speaker 1: didn't spread to every college. So why did you become
- 4:18Speaker 1: a part of this and when did you step on board? Well,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know something with Shawn, I don't know, maybe for
- 4:24Speaker 1: the last thirty years or so. I got out there, Uh,
- 4:29Speaker 1: supporting all the you know HBCUs. But my main, my,
- 4:35Speaker 1: my main one, my baby was always holding State where
- 4:38Speaker 1: that's my homecome and uh because I was born like
- 4:43Speaker 1: my mom and dad and my family, and I want
- 4:44Speaker 1: to get back. So it actually started there. So I
- 4:47Speaker 1: was with all Benish State I think ten years pretty
- 4:50Speaker 1: much ten years but jen years Delta Airlines with do
- 4:55Speaker 1: they like ten first class tickets and I would fly
- 4:57Speaker 1: my friends and Tim Reid, Don Lewis reaching my home
- 5:01Speaker 1: from the maddest cast. Everybody would come in and we
- 5:03Speaker 1: will leave that Friday morning, fly in and we would
- 5:08Speaker 1: be there that Saturday, and we got on that Sunday.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Were a whole weekend a fundraising to raise college funds
- 5:16Speaker 1: and I personally myself always gave away four stolarships, two
- 5:20Speaker 1: mails and two females. But it actually started with me.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I'm one of nine kids. I'm the oldest daughter, and
- 5:27Speaker 1: uh I had six brothers and two sisters. But I
- 5:29Speaker 1: remember two and one and I remember in nine when
- 5:33Speaker 1: I graduated here mine because I was raising home. All
- 5:36Speaker 1: my friends say went off to college, they went to
- 5:38Speaker 1: family and who cooked running. You know, those are the
- 5:41Speaker 1: schools coming from mind and those of na. We didn't
- 5:44Speaker 1: have Carda Memorial at that time. Florida Memorial came Leya
- 5:47Speaker 1: that's already storical. Come tree here. And I remember standing
- 5:50Speaker 1: under my in front of my my mom's house, under
- 5:53Speaker 1: the tree house prime like a lady. I wanted to
- 5:56Speaker 1: go to college so bad. I did not know what
- 5:58Speaker 1: to do. But I'm amazon wellfare and she was raising
- 6:02Speaker 1: us by herself. And I went in the house cried,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and I promised my mother. I said, if I ever
- 6:06Speaker 1: picked up point, I'm gonna listen to school, she said,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and I said yes. She said, well I can, I said,
- 6:12Speaker 1: for the none of us in one year, I said,
- 6:14Speaker 1: because you should not give you think it too not
- 6:16Speaker 1: be when you can't go to school because you don't
- 6:18Speaker 1: have the running to go to school. You know, I
- 6:20Speaker 1: wanted to go. I know my start. I was talented,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and strangely them not. I was offered a scholarship uh
- 6:26Speaker 1: in art, but I did not know and my mother
- 6:29Speaker 1: did not know that that's where the ever fire comes in.
- 6:31Speaker 1: You gotta know you gotta go to those those um
- 6:34Speaker 1: but when they had the such the summits and all
- 6:36Speaker 1: that stuff, I just have to go with kids especially
- 6:38Speaker 1: don't know. My mother didn't know it. I didn't know
- 6:40Speaker 1: even I could have gone into college or that scholars
- 6:42Speaker 1: shaking switch lad. I didn't know that. So there's a
- 6:45Speaker 1: lot of stuff I didn't know. All I did know
- 6:48Speaker 1: was that I was on a mission to make sure
- 6:52Speaker 1: that not one kid who wanted to go to school
- 6:56Speaker 1: would feel like that wealth pact. And so chen led
- 7:01Speaker 1: to twenty hundred and I think the last time of
- 7:05Speaker 1: matter about being about two something like that. But I
- 7:08Speaker 1: tell them what I give you I called a jump stuff.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And I can't go out there and give you all
- 7:13Speaker 1: that money like all the mother folks, But I would
- 7:15Speaker 1: give me five thousand dollars or four dollars dars. Get
- 7:18Speaker 1: you in there. Once you get in there, and you
- 7:20Speaker 1: find out where the rest of that money is, because
- 7:21Speaker 1: there's some more money in there. You got you got
- 7:26Speaker 1: look for it. And then on troll of that, when
- 7:27Speaker 1: you get in there, you make sure that we don't
- 7:31Speaker 1: have to douvel up on you because you didn't pass
- 7:33Speaker 1: a class. You get in there, you better pass every
- 7:37Speaker 1: class there is now strange steing up. I'm gonna tell
- 7:40Speaker 1: you something. I work with Dr Frience Brown because Dr
- 7:43Speaker 1: Prince Brown was at all in the state at that time,
- 7:45Speaker 1: and I think Dr Brownson was was the president there.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But I worked also with family when I worked with
- 7:50Speaker 1: Don Cook Money, I worked with Texas Southern, I work
- 7:53Speaker 1: with UM Virginia Union, all of them. I've been on
- 7:56Speaker 1: all the campuses and stuff. So for me, it's it's
- 7:59Speaker 1: gonna always be a heart prod for me, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 1: to make sure that anybody that really wants to go
- 8:06Speaker 1: to school, I want to continue their education can do that.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And I know that Boies along with all the other hbcs,
- 8:16Speaker 1: they need the funds. They always need the funds, you know.
- 8:20Speaker 1: In this era that we're in now, with this COVID
- 8:22Speaker 1: nineteen and stuff, a lot of things have changed now
- 8:24Speaker 1: we're in a new normal. So I'm not specific about
- 8:28Speaker 1: exactly what it is they need. I just know that
- 8:32Speaker 1: they need the funds to get whatever it is because
- 8:35Speaker 1: I don't know what the studies are, what all the
- 8:37Speaker 1: main studies are now because our world has changed and
- 8:40Speaker 1: we are virtually in a virtual world with a lot
- 8:42Speaker 1: of technology going on. So I'm assuming that we need
- 8:45Speaker 1: technical equipment. We need we we need um professors and
- 8:51Speaker 1: the features were like their work. We need administrators that
- 8:54Speaker 1: can come in back and teach that. They have to
- 8:56Speaker 1: have salaries, then have labs, you know, and we have
- 8:59Speaker 1: to have even promotional money because we have to make
- 9:03Speaker 1: a kid excited about right right, excited about achievement, excited
- 9:08Speaker 1: about being a part of where we are now in
- 9:10Speaker 1: the world we are, and we need the engineers. We
- 9:13Speaker 1: need people looking look at the wonderful people that went
- 9:16Speaker 1: up in space. Look at they asked them, look at them,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and look at the first state work. You know, we
- 9:20Speaker 1: we we need scientists and doctors, well COVID others. We
- 9:24Speaker 1: need a lot of doctors. Right, so were profession We're
- 9:27Speaker 1: in a new parent, new normal. So and it's not
- 9:31Speaker 1: supposed to stop learning. It's not supposed to stop right.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Let mess you this told you was bragging about nine kids,
- 9:37Speaker 1: nine sisters, nine kids children. I come from a family
- 9:40Speaker 1: of nine Okay, six sisters, two brothers. See again, Joe Marie.
- 9:43Speaker 1: But you're not gonna come on my show each other upstage.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You know, we're saying, you know you you were through
- 9:47Speaker 1: that nine. I like it was gonna be a number
- 9:50Speaker 1: that was gonna be matched. I can match that. You know,
- 9:53Speaker 1: my parents, they was out there populating too. They will
- 9:55Speaker 1: populate to okay. But it's a lovely thing. It's a
- 9:58Speaker 1: lovely thing, you know. And I'll only have one daughter,
- 10:01Speaker 1: and I never forget. My daughter came off from Pope.
- 10:03Speaker 1: She was going to be you at the time, started
- 10:06Speaker 1: going to school, that's where she was going late and
- 10:08Speaker 1: she came up a fake skitter. That's a fake that's
- 10:11Speaker 1: like right now when this time and I met at
- 10:13Speaker 1: the airport, and now I'm so happy to see it
- 10:14Speaker 1: because she was, like I said, she's my only count three,
- 10:16Speaker 1: three thousand miles away trying to be with me. But
- 10:19Speaker 1: she jumped on my father. She said, Mama, what does
- 10:22Speaker 1: it feel like to have brothers and sisters? And my
- 10:25Speaker 1: heart spipped to be I felt so bad, I said,
- 10:29Speaker 1: it feels wonderful. It's it's jan tell is well, she said,
- 10:32Speaker 1: because every time something happened, I'm for Michael, I'm afraid,
- 10:35Speaker 1: but lcome, Tommy Ulco, Johnny. I just says, everybody just
- 10:37Speaker 1: speaks together. She said, I remember we needed to take
- 10:40Speaker 1: the house, and you guys take the house playing a
- 10:41Speaker 1: three hours because everybody take and take it. So that
- 10:44Speaker 1: kind of thing. But my heart stipped to be and
- 10:47Speaker 1: I felt really bad because my mom had said to
- 10:49Speaker 1: have two kids, and I was busy in my career.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Along with the fact that I had just station of
- 10:54Speaker 1: diabetes when I had her, I just didn't want to
- 10:56Speaker 1: go there. But if I had to regret something in
- 10:59Speaker 1: my life, that would be the one thing that I
- 11:01Speaker 1: would regret. Yeah, I didn't have another child. Well I can.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I can agree with you absolutely, Yeah, like that two
- 11:15Speaker 1: open in college, you know, and I can agree. Like
- 11:18Speaker 1: I said, I come from a big family. Uh my parents.
- 11:21Speaker 1: My father the truck driver, you know, third grade education,
- 11:24Speaker 1: mom graduate of high school. And we lived in a
- 11:27Speaker 1: two bedroom shotgun house. You know, That's what I was
- 11:30Speaker 1: going in. I was born in that and so and
- 11:32Speaker 1: so my whole thing. I have one daughter, just like you.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We we have such a strong kinship. It's amazing. They
- 11:38Speaker 1: have to bring all this out in the conversation and
- 11:41Speaker 1: and so and I've had that I wish I could
- 11:43Speaker 1: have given. But I was tied up traveling because I
- 11:46Speaker 1: started out in his career as a stand up comedian,
- 11:48Speaker 1: So I was always on the road before I started
- 11:50Speaker 1: writing sitcoms and family. You know, I wrote, I wrote
- 11:54Speaker 1: The Parenthood, I wrote Sister Sister, Uh, I wrote Jamie
- 12:00Speaker 1: Fox Show, The Parkers, and then starting manager Steve Steve
- 12:04Speaker 1: Harvard two thousand and the rest is history from that
- 12:06Speaker 1: standpord of me being producing and doing a lot of
- 12:09Speaker 1: high profile events. But one thing, I didn't go to
- 12:12Speaker 1: an hbc U school. But I've always had a kinship
- 12:15Speaker 1: for creating change and also giving people, uh information. This
- 12:18Speaker 1: was just about information. There's a stream of thought theforehes
- 12:21Speaker 1: is having us to promote and like I said, it's
- 12:23Speaker 1: air today, but December second, which is just in the first,
- 12:27Speaker 1: which is Tuesdays, the actual stream of thought. And we're
- 12:29Speaker 1: trying to raise a million dollars and and we're using
- 12:32Speaker 1: our skills so popular we're gonna get it. And I know,
- 12:36Speaker 1: like I said, Don Lewis has been participating in this,
- 12:40Speaker 1: killing Mikeets participating this, but car Sellers is participating, and
- 12:43Speaker 1: you're the chair Joe Marie paidon. So so we got
- 12:46Speaker 1: the queen, the queen, the queen so so so you know,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you know your country just like me. Because I was
- 12:52Speaker 1: born in Houston, Texas. I'm still in Atlanta, Georgiana. I
- 12:54Speaker 1: may have lived in New York, Chicago, l A. But
- 12:57Speaker 1: I'm a country boy. I love but now I'm putting
- 13:01Speaker 1: I love great things that right. I can actually cook
- 13:04Speaker 1: corn bread. I like to throw a little sweet corn
- 13:07Speaker 1: in there sometimes, you know, just just to mess it
- 13:09Speaker 1: up a little bit. But so let's go back to
- 13:12Speaker 1: the third out statement that you had, Joe Mrie, because well,
- 13:15Speaker 1: this is what we're gonna do, because we got zoom
- 13:17Speaker 1: now Joe Marie, and so I already told you I
- 13:20Speaker 1: gotta kitchen in my office. Okay, So one day it's
- 13:23Speaker 1: gonna be soon, maybe before the end of the year.
- 13:26Speaker 1: We're gonna zoom you in the kitchen. I'm gonna be
- 13:29Speaker 1: in my office kitchen and we're gonna do a meal together.
- 13:32Speaker 1: You know, your version of red beans, right, or your
- 13:35Speaker 1: version of corn bread, or your version of whenever your
- 13:39Speaker 1: version is ru Sean McDonald can match it? How about that? Cool? Okay? Cool?
- 13:45Speaker 1: Look what if we're challenging? Okay, So I just did
- 13:48Speaker 1: a video with a girlfriend of mine who's the filmmaker,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and I did a video project that I'm thinking about
- 13:54Speaker 1: watching and I did my daughter, my granddaughter rather and
- 13:59Speaker 1: my granddaughter's well, she did her version of ricks and
- 14:02Speaker 1: I did my versions. But my show that's called something
- 14:09Speaker 1: thinking of good stuff. What they said, you said, you
- 14:12Speaker 1: put it out or put it out in the universe,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and they're gonna happen. Okay, So so tell us about
- 14:17Speaker 1: this this this this cookie show. Because I'm a foodie.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I'm a food fanatic. Okay, I love Look, I got
- 14:25Speaker 1: a little segment on my Facebook called rushaun eats different
- 14:28Speaker 1: places I went around the country to eat, just throwing
- 14:30Speaker 1: people love because I got like it was a million followers.
- 14:32Speaker 1: So I just post people free just to give them
- 14:34Speaker 1: hype and give them some respect, especially the black restaurants.
- 14:38Speaker 1: They need all the love they can get. So so,
- 14:40Speaker 1: so you just threw out stripping drips. Okay, okay, I'm
- 14:44Speaker 1: a great man, said everybody. I love me some grits. Okay,
- 14:48Speaker 1: So not with sugar though, I'm waller, you streight, you
- 14:58Speaker 1: stream country just like me. Anybody says sugar ingridge to
- 15:05Speaker 1: me need to be slapped. I really, I'm just telln't
- 15:07Speaker 1: care if you. I'm not being offended anybody, but greach need.
- 15:12Speaker 1: If you if you really get in country, some of
- 15:14Speaker 1: that bacon grease you pour on top of the grids. Okay,
- 15:18Speaker 1: that way, you don't need to salt and pepper. Just
- 15:20Speaker 1: put some bacon grease. Or you can be cool, just
- 15:23Speaker 1: put some butter pepper, salt, Get that bad part right
- 15:29Speaker 1: and you're done. You're done. She went from albody Opa
- 15:37Speaker 1: Locka Florida, going back to what you said. You know,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I go back to college and funding and all that
- 15:43Speaker 1: kind of stuff. I remember I was doing fund raising
- 15:48Speaker 1: the university and when I went in to speak with them,
- 15:52Speaker 1: a bottom and down. It's finally here, the season of celebration.

- 17:50Speaker 1: E R. Dot Ai. I found out that they have
- 17:54Speaker 1: got a donation to do it a million dollar and
- 17:59Speaker 1: down it to do to preserve the black cooking stock.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I asked them if I could go out and tell
- 18:05Speaker 1: my children that it was there. They say, the absolutely,
- 18:09Speaker 1: you know something with that to eat and with all
- 18:12Speaker 1: the stuff going on right and the back stores, that's
- 18:16Speaker 1: where we're going to the other side of there is
- 18:18Speaker 1: something for everybody as what we get in our regular
- 18:23Speaker 1: general education, saying that they can some of the some
- 18:27Speaker 1: of the the highest paid restaurants in the world are
- 18:30Speaker 1: chefs and they're got just the ones that are in
- 18:33Speaker 1: the big restaurants that it wants to do a lot
- 18:35Speaker 1: of testing and all that stuff there was that probably
- 18:38Speaker 1: prepared along with scientists, the food for the astronauts, forces
- 18:42Speaker 1: or what there gets a job, a responsibility or duty.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I love everybody and sometimes you just got to go
- 18:51Speaker 1: beyond your your your basic education. And that's why we
- 18:57Speaker 1: need to make sure that we keep fonds available for
- 19:00Speaker 1: these kids to going to these schools new but also
- 19:03Speaker 1: the university's college universities have to come up to hear. Also,
- 19:07Speaker 1: I don't know what they're doing right now. Years ago
- 19:09Speaker 1: I kind of new, had a general idea of what
- 19:12Speaker 1: the studies were and what was required this, se the other.
- 19:15Speaker 1: But I'm sure that things have changed now. If they
- 19:18Speaker 1: haven't changed as much, then they need to change much more,
- 19:22Speaker 1: come up to where we need to be technically, scientifically,
- 19:27Speaker 1: medically and all that other stuff. And so that's why
- 19:30Speaker 1: I agree to continue and I probably will always do
- 19:33Speaker 1: in some some way on some level, to always try
- 19:36Speaker 1: to help some young person and even some mature person,
- 19:39Speaker 1: because I remember there was a time I gave up
- 19:43Speaker 1: scholarships to to uh some young people, and that we
- 19:47Speaker 1: were at the ceremony and then I monted the young
- 19:49Speaker 1: people took part of their money and shared it. This
- 19:52Speaker 1: was a female of ethomerice Mane. She asked me though,
- 19:56Speaker 1: she said, MS paid, would you mind if I gave
- 19:58Speaker 1: half of my scholarship money to my friend? And she
- 20:02Speaker 1: has two kids and she wants to come to school
- 20:04Speaker 1: I ain't no problem with that. Almost broke with your tears.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Then by the same token, there was another young man
- 20:10Speaker 1: who was finishing up his last year, and he staid
- 20:13Speaker 1: at funds left, and he asked me it would be
- 20:17Speaker 1: all right if he passed his funds onto somebody's. It
- 20:20Speaker 1: just it just took my heart. You know, I don't
- 20:23Speaker 1: I don't ever ask anybody to give me anything back.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And maren't too much anybody could give me, because first
- 20:28Speaker 1: of all, God bless me with He blessed me the
- 20:31Speaker 1: ability to know the difference between rich and poort. You
- 20:34Speaker 1: ain't got nothing to do with what's in my pocket, Okay,
- 20:37Speaker 1: it has to deal with in my my heart and
- 20:39Speaker 1: my soul and stuff. Because I can become a millionaire
- 20:41Speaker 1: amongst a millionaire today in the morrow, but I could
- 20:45Speaker 1: be sick and not be if you enjoy that. And uh,
- 20:48Speaker 1: my richness and my value comes in and my spirit,
- 20:53Speaker 1: in my belief and understanding that I'm not responsible for anything,
- 20:57Speaker 1: but how I treat people, how to let people treat me,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and who I believe me and not believing him, and
- 21:03Speaker 1: you take you scare of me. So he makes sure
- 21:06Speaker 1: that I don't get caught up in anything except what's
- 21:08Speaker 1: necessary and what's available, and also what's important to people.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I love it when I see people progress. I love
- 21:15Speaker 1: it when I see young people good doing things that
- 21:18Speaker 1: their hearts designed. It makes me feel good. If that's
- 21:21Speaker 1: the kind of stuff that will make you take the
- 21:23Speaker 1: shirt off your back and give it to him, that's
- 21:25Speaker 1: the kind of stuff to say. If you take this,
- 21:26Speaker 1: you're going to use this because I know you're gonna
- 21:29Speaker 1: put it to good use, because you understand that I
- 21:31Speaker 1: ain't just about you. You want to be a contributor
- 21:33Speaker 1: to the world in some way that's lasting, that's ever lasting,
- 21:37Speaker 1: although you won't be here, and it's you want to
- 21:39Speaker 1: be able to contribute and leave something. That's why we
- 21:42Speaker 1: need people to donate to these colleges. That's why we
- 21:46Speaker 1: need the money for those who have that passion. And
- 21:49Speaker 1: I always tell people they're tell a long of people anyway,
- 21:52Speaker 1: you are going to have an opportunity in this life
- 21:55Speaker 1: because we were under the service of somebody that's so
- 21:59Speaker 1: powerful and so awesome. Until you're gonna have the opportunity
- 22:02Speaker 1: to maybe have three careers one thirty your life, you're
- 22:07Speaker 1: gonna spend doing something that maybe you don't like to
- 22:09Speaker 1: do it, but you're good at it, so you make
- 22:10Speaker 1: a lot of money. But then you are spare one
- 22:13Speaker 1: thirty your life doing something that you love her so much.
- 22:16Speaker 1: You're dore for free. That's your as And then he
- 22:20Speaker 1: wants to be on one thirty your life flow saying well,
- 22:22Speaker 1: I'm not, well, I'm gonna do that because that's life,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and we said awesome, So you got an opportunity to
- 22:28Speaker 1: do that. So the young people that have a heartsh
- 22:31Speaker 1: desire to do something or to be a contributor in
- 22:34Speaker 1: a special way, that's the kind of person I really
- 22:37Speaker 1: want to push. That's the kind of person that I
- 22:39Speaker 1: really want to beg. Oh, I'll bet for some stop
- 22:42Speaker 1: shipping money, I'll bet for some investment money. I'll beg
- 22:45Speaker 1: for that kind of person because I know that what
- 22:48Speaker 1: they want is coming from deep inside and they feel
- 22:51Speaker 1: it like that because they can put it out like
- 22:54Speaker 1: that because they know it's not just for the Wow.
- 22:57Speaker 1: You listen to Joe Marie Peyton and this is the
- 23:00Speaker 1: or He's stream of throon Hype Show. And when I
- 23:02Speaker 1: say Hype Show today on Sunday, we're just hyping it.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Because December, the first that's Tuesday, the actual stream of
- 23:09Speaker 1: through will happen where our goal is to raises she
- 23:11Speaker 1: said it. We're gonna raise one million dollars, but we
- 23:14Speaker 1: need your help to raise that one million dollars because
- 23:16Speaker 1: we motivated the big create change and HPCU HBCUs have
- 23:20Speaker 1: been pushed out into the into the light because of
- 23:23Speaker 1: President elect Kamala Harris, the vice president, like Kamala Harris,
- 23:27Speaker 1: is a graduate of HBCU and a member of the
- 23:29Speaker 1: A K A sorority. Just add more and more, to
- 23:33Speaker 1: add more blackness. I keep telling you, I'm gonna make
- 23:37Speaker 1: a sac fire. By the way, just let you know,
- 23:39Speaker 1: he said, just let you know. See see when you
- 23:42Speaker 1: go that way, I'm gonna following you right now, I
- 23:44Speaker 1: don't know. And what's so wonderful about BAT too is
- 23:48Speaker 1: that those organizations, all of them about service, which is
- 23:53Speaker 1: pro so powerful, not on the nationally then and and
- 23:58Speaker 1: it's one offum that that represents the way they are
- 24:00Speaker 1: represented represented on the Polish campus. You know, we want
- 24:05Speaker 1: we want our young people. Got are going in to
- 24:07Speaker 1: keep that in mind too, you know, pash service right,
- 24:13Speaker 1: be be, be be diligent in your studs. Please don't waste.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Don't go ahead of just part have some fun, but
- 24:22Speaker 1: don't go in it just party. Don't let your parents,
- 24:24Speaker 1: whether you got money, whether you got money, donated, what
- 24:27Speaker 1: you got the stars favor, don't let that money be
- 24:30Speaker 1: wasted going there. Do what you're supposed to do. Come
- 24:32Speaker 1: on out and do what needs to be done. There
- 24:34Speaker 1: you go. You know, let's let's talk about you know,
- 24:38Speaker 1: we talked about HPC, you talk about family, we talk
- 24:40Speaker 1: about living dreams, and we're talking about trying to change
- 24:43Speaker 1: lives with these scholarships dollars. Then we trying to raise
- 24:46Speaker 1: for the stream of thon which is happening Tuesday, the
- 24:49Speaker 1: decent Referson. We want people to make a donation. And
- 24:51Speaker 1: the fact that these donations are tax reductable, that's gonna
- 24:53Speaker 1: be real. They're tax detectable this time of the years
- 24:56Speaker 1: when people make these types of donations. And like I
- 24:58Speaker 1: always tell, anybody's know, a dollar got the president elect,
- 25:02Speaker 1: Joe Biden elected, So it doesn't take much to be
- 25:04Speaker 1: a donation. And more importantly, it's about understanding the change
- 25:08Speaker 1: that you can make when you make effort to create
- 25:10Speaker 1: change and your life when you look at the things
- 25:14Speaker 1: that's happened, and COVID happened this year. We didn't see
- 25:16Speaker 1: that coming. How did it affect you? Because my my story,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I tell everybody honestly. You know, when it happened, it
- 25:22Speaker 1: was like moving in slow motion. I didn't know how
- 25:25Speaker 1: to go out in public. Initially, I had my gloves,
- 25:28Speaker 1: I had my parrel, I had my mad In fact,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I didn't have a mask of the time. I had
- 25:33Speaker 1: a kind of like a ski mask. I just kind
- 25:35Speaker 1: of like pulled it up above my nose and I
- 25:37Speaker 1: went at home deeper and I came out. I didn't
- 25:38Speaker 1: know did open the door too fast or I put
- 25:41Speaker 1: pararel off? And so I just locked out into the
- 25:44Speaker 1: house for about several weeks until I trying to figure
- 25:46Speaker 1: out because it was the whole factor. It was so
- 25:49Speaker 1: much unknown about COVID, And I said, we know a
- 25:52Speaker 1: lot now, but we kind of know how to live
- 25:54Speaker 1: with it now. How did they react to you and
- 25:56Speaker 1: how did you deal with it in your family and
- 25:58Speaker 1: the surrounding individuals who you come in contact with. Okay,
- 26:02Speaker 1: you know, first, first off, when we u when we
- 26:05Speaker 1: got to notice that we had to lock down, I
- 26:07Speaker 1: was facilitating for a UM at the school program in
- 26:12Speaker 1: the arts and beated and and we were just getting
- 26:14Speaker 1: ready to do one. It delifi a tribute to the
- 26:17Speaker 1: old James. All my little people we were reading my
- 26:19Speaker 1: spools and made never had that, we never got a
- 26:23Speaker 1: chance to do it. And so the first hit I
- 26:27Speaker 1: got was I missed my kids, and I know they
- 26:30Speaker 1: missed me. And it wasn't just about the show. I
- 26:32Speaker 1: had been with these young people for like two years,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I think, not sin now as far as my immediate familys,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I missed them that that because I was on the
- 26:40Speaker 1: schedule with them. Now my immediate family, my husband is
- 26:43Speaker 1: a respiratory fair, so I spent play time praying for
- 26:49Speaker 1: him to be shaped at the hospital him and all
- 26:52Speaker 1: the other medical professionals, but also prayer you can bring
- 26:55Speaker 1: it home to me. But also I prayed for my
- 27:00Speaker 1: daughter who worked in the county and she couldn't stop
- 27:03Speaker 1: work right there like that minute. But she did eventually
- 27:06Speaker 1: come home. And my granddaughter, of course was under age,
- 27:08Speaker 1: so she hadn't stayed there. I stayed home. They stay
- 27:12Speaker 1: stay home, So I basically, for the most part, I
- 27:15Speaker 1: stayed home. Whenever I needed something, my daughter will go
- 27:18Speaker 1: out for me to get it, or I started ordering
- 27:21Speaker 1: stuff to order and to bring it to my house.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I became the Queen Amazon, wal martin Target, and everybody
- 27:28Speaker 1: else that was the Sam Club. Everybody I ordered into
- 27:31Speaker 1: the huts and then of course I said up there again,
- 27:34Speaker 1: like about ten pounds, like everybody else. But the way
- 27:38Speaker 1: I handled it was that I tried to follow the
- 27:42Speaker 1: science and what people were saying, and the way my
- 27:46Speaker 1: husband was feeling when he would come home, like looking
- 27:49Speaker 1: at he was gonna drop dead at the door, you know,
- 27:54Speaker 1: pulling off all his stuff, dropping it in a special bag. Well,
- 27:57Speaker 1: of course they don't come home with that stuff, but
- 27:59Speaker 1: that in the has mat suit. But dropping this stuff
- 28:02Speaker 1: in a special bag and washing this blows step. And
- 28:04Speaker 1: then we have We tried to be We tried to
- 28:06Speaker 1: use the caution that we knew we had to use.
- 28:09Speaker 1: We also used the mindset because even though we're strong
- 28:15Speaker 1: and healthy, there are a lot of people that I'm not.
- 28:19Speaker 1: That's why I can't understand why nobody wants to wear
- 28:23Speaker 1: were not nobody, but a lot of people get upset
- 28:26Speaker 1: about wearing the mask. I'm just gonna be upfront with
- 28:29Speaker 1: everybody about this. I've suffered from a fear and I uh,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I had an ape. I've had a feel for the
- 28:36Speaker 1: last four years and all for a lot of people
- 28:38Speaker 1: don't know that is that said. It's really a heart rhythm,
- 28:41Speaker 1: That's what I had. So it was hard, kind of
- 28:44Speaker 1: hard to breathe. Sometimes I get a little winded, you
- 28:47Speaker 1: know what I mean, blue winded. And I was always
- 28:49Speaker 1: a kind of put I'm live. I always moved. That's
- 28:53Speaker 1: a dance as I talked, that's a good infect for
- 28:56Speaker 1: something to hit me like that. When I thought it
- 28:58Speaker 1: was bronch pikes and I thought I have eight FID
- 29:01Speaker 1: and I said, well, lad bit. So we told me
- 29:03Speaker 1: what it was and I was in the hospital. I
- 29:05Speaker 1: went to the emergency. You know, I told my daughter
- 29:07Speaker 1: my husband wasn't home. And guess how used West story papist.
- 29:10Speaker 1: He came on and I said, bag, check out the
- 29:12Speaker 1: step and check me check measing what I said, cleave.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. He said, well, look,
- 29:17Speaker 1: let me shot with book and I said, no, shot
- 29:19Speaker 1: tells on our way. So my daughter took me to
- 29:20Speaker 1: the emergency. When I got to emergency, they said, miss Payden,
- 29:24Speaker 1: what happened? I said, I can't breathe. They started running
- 29:27Speaker 1: and hearing on and they took like a few hours
- 29:29Speaker 1: or whatever. And then I said, this get it's a
- 29:32Speaker 1: road to us soon or something. Let me get up
- 29:34Speaker 1: Barty here, y'all just doing something. So I to breathe.
- 29:37Speaker 1: And they said, no, Miss Payden, your heart great. They
- 29:39Speaker 1: told her what the heart wreay was. We came into
- 29:41Speaker 1: Unervers and he needs to hospital that evening. Um, um
- 29:46Speaker 1: McCarty illog just came in. They want to have me.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I love it it can he said, Miss payn He said, um,
- 29:51Speaker 1: we don't have to keep you and find out what
- 29:52Speaker 1: this is. I'm getting. I'm gonna get to the main party. Yeah,
- 29:55Speaker 1: I keep find out what took your what made your
- 29:57Speaker 1: heart braced do that you were on the verge of
- 30:00Speaker 1: maybe having a stroke, you know, and saying you look healthy.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I'm not diabetic, I don't have hockey. Let's strong, I'll
- 30:06Speaker 1: have any of that stuff. And I'm seven years old
- 30:08Speaker 1: this year about a sixt what six what at that time.
- 30:12Speaker 1: So anyway, then they came in the next I said,
- 30:15Speaker 1: that night, man, it's all get up. And though because
- 30:17Speaker 1: when I used to be in the hospital and people
- 30:19Speaker 1: don't know. They're like, So the next day, I said, okay,
- 30:22Speaker 1: then can I go home? And they said no. And
- 30:23Speaker 1: when they came in, they had on bask him. They
- 30:25Speaker 1: put stuff on the door and he put quarantine. I said, okay,
- 30:28Speaker 1: now y'all really stare me. What's going on? They so,
- 30:30Speaker 1: we're trying to figure out what kind of what, what
- 30:33Speaker 1: triggered this, what happened? You know, we gotta do some
- 30:36Speaker 1: extram some more UM exams. So what it is? And
- 30:42Speaker 1: so uh? I said, okay. Then they came back that night.
- 30:45Speaker 1: This is Sunday night. I went to this Saturday morning,
- 30:46Speaker 1: came back this Sunday night and they said, okay, let's
- 30:49Speaker 1: playing me figured out what it was, and so what
- 30:51Speaker 1: is it? They said, you have a rhyino virus. I
- 30:53Speaker 1: said that was a rhinovirus and they said to rhyme
- 30:56Speaker 1: anstros in the nose. It was all in my nose.
- 30:58Speaker 1: That's why we didn't here in my chest or it
- 31:00Speaker 1: give us all in my nose, Like it was like
- 31:02Speaker 1: when I tell people I was blowing my nose prior
- 31:05Speaker 1: to that. And it was like that glue, you know,
- 31:07Speaker 1: that old glue that you used to the brown blue
- 31:09Speaker 1: HiT's little way. It was thick like that when I
- 31:12Speaker 1: blowed them my nose, so that the step in my nose.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I'm believing that I had anxiety attack because I couldn't
- 31:18Speaker 1: breathe in it through my heart rhythm, like don't showing short.
- 31:23Speaker 1: He came in and he said, miss pay we you
- 31:25Speaker 1: set your heart almost fell out set my heart? Said
- 31:31Speaker 1: we already said it to said he we don't reset
- 31:35Speaker 1: it that the normal. And then I said what I
- 31:39Speaker 1: was always sto other after you saw that snow heart beat.
- 31:42Speaker 1: I say that to say this, it was difficult for
- 31:45Speaker 1: me put that mask on what one of the babies
- 31:47Speaker 1: until I stayed home and stuff. I didn't want to
- 31:49Speaker 1: put that mask on that I knew if I went
- 31:52Speaker 1: anywhere to visit my daughter or to don't pick up
- 31:55Speaker 1: my meds, although I could have had them brought in.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I like going to get my I know my people
- 31:59Speaker 1: at my honestly, I know their names. I like that.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I wanted to see them so I can't go out
- 32:04Speaker 1: once or twice a meet. But I hate it putting
- 32:06Speaker 1: that mask from my husband. Right now, I'm a He
- 32:09Speaker 1: had like five or six different masks. He's a restory
- 32:12Speaker 1: there but people bring me different master to track. None
- 32:15Speaker 1: of them made me hack. But you know what, I
- 32:18Speaker 1: wore that mask anyway. I still wear a mask when
- 32:22Speaker 1: I go out. I got about five or six something
- 32:25Speaker 1: in my car. And not only that, I have a
- 32:27Speaker 1: homeless man that I loved it death. His name is Traps,
- 32:31Speaker 1: and I've been back home thirteen years. I can't maven
- 32:33Speaker 1: take there my mom and that sick and my brothers
- 32:35Speaker 1: and sisters, while nine to fives and my sped is
- 32:37Speaker 1: more flexile. This homeless speller that I that I took
- 32:41Speaker 1: you up. I love him a death, the same us Trapping.
- 32:44Speaker 1: See it's here in Miami. A lot of people in
- 32:45Speaker 1: mind that many girls, they knowing the first thing I
- 32:48Speaker 1: thought about that, Oh my god, trying to still have
- 32:51Speaker 1: no masks. They're not gonna let him in the story,
- 32:53Speaker 1: you know, because he's honest and he's gooding and stuff,
- 32:56Speaker 1: and he knows my car because I blow it. I
- 32:58Speaker 1: blow him into my black paddle whenever I saw us
- 33:02Speaker 1: in at a times got a bracket. He got a
- 33:05Speaker 1: little Christmas box or whatever with some cookies and stuff
- 33:07Speaker 1: that I want to get rid because I know he's
- 33:09Speaker 1: gonna stay there. We stay happy dad. He's had the
- 33:11Speaker 1: damn happy there. But I think he needed to go
- 33:13Speaker 1: and to start to do his vegetables and things, and
- 33:16Speaker 1: so I had an extra packet of a best for him.
- 33:21Speaker 1: But when I gave him the mask, he looked at
- 33:26Speaker 1: me size that real life, he said, thank you, last you.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I what can I say? Nobody can make you wear
- 33:40Speaker 1: the mask. The mask is not just for you, although
- 33:45Speaker 1: you need it, it will help you. The mask is
- 33:49Speaker 1: to help we can do this in the schools. Kid,
- 33:53Speaker 1: my grand baby want to go back to schools so bad,
- 33:56Speaker 1: hands around some of our friends already going back, and
- 33:58Speaker 1: then we I want to look kids in there got
- 34:01Speaker 1: you know coviden that want to teachers got to teach
- 34:03Speaker 1: us back and not a little kid will be back too. Well.
- 34:06Speaker 1: The pandemic it's a dangerous thing, not only in the schools,
- 34:11Speaker 1: in the hose, in the in the in the the
- 34:14Speaker 1: for sure, in the hospitals, on the streets and where
- 34:16Speaker 1: the else. But if I if I had to say
- 34:20Speaker 1: something that really came from my heart about this whole situation,
- 34:26Speaker 1: it's not gonna sew wear mass. It might stay well
- 34:31Speaker 1: right and somebody else's way. It's not an easier thing,
- 34:36Speaker 1: and the minute I get in my car, snatch it
- 34:39Speaker 1: off just before I go get out of my car.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I'm mad when it only but I'm still here, I
- 34:47Speaker 1: still healthant, my family, self, to fact, God, my my neighbor's.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I've lost a few cousins and a few friends, so
- 34:54Speaker 1: it is personal. But I know this. People want to
- 34:57Speaker 1: go to school, not just the little kids like my
- 34:59Speaker 1: grand dady, college students because they like that interaction. They
- 35:03Speaker 1: like that professor stand up there. They're like that, They're
- 35:05Speaker 1: like that dialogue between each other, and we don't do
- 35:08Speaker 1: whatever we have to do in order to continue to
- 35:11Speaker 1: learn and education. And we're gonna help them. We're gonna
- 35:14Speaker 1: help all these kids, even if we have to be
- 35:16Speaker 1: virtual a little bit more. But I think, like they say,
- 35:18Speaker 1: there is a light at the end of the So
- 35:20Speaker 1: so we got a lot of young people going back
- 35:22Speaker 1: into the big and more. They're gonna back into the buildings,
- 35:25Speaker 1: and when they get there, we need to be prepared
- 35:27Speaker 1: for them. That's everything from the from the nursery school
- 35:30Speaker 1: in kindergarten, all that to the elementary to junior, the
- 35:33Speaker 1: little school in odd school all the way to the
- 35:35Speaker 1: college University's Harvard and not yelling all the others. We
- 35:39Speaker 1: can't stop learning, we can't stop living, and for sure
- 35:44Speaker 1: we can't stop getting. Now on December one, I want
- 35:48Speaker 1: everybody call that Duesday Tuesday, Tuesday, Pale Dues help some
- 35:54Speaker 1: of these stools, these people that will probably be in
- 35:57Speaker 1: a position to help us be around in life. It's
- 36:01Speaker 1: gonna get better. We're gonna make it better, and we're
- 36:04Speaker 1: gonna get that million dollars. Jill Marie, thank you for
- 36:09Speaker 1: being on the show. Thank you for being a part.
- 36:11Speaker 1: You are the official chair of the event. The Vorhees
- 36:14Speaker 1: Streamaton Tuesday, December first, appreciate the time you owe me something.
- 36:19Speaker 1: We're gonna we're gonna reconnect because, uh, you owe me
- 36:22Speaker 1: some cookoffs and I want to promote that new TV show,
- 36:25Speaker 1: that cooking show that you got coming out. So our
- 36:27Speaker 1: relationship is bonded. I love you. You got nine, I
- 36:31Speaker 1: got nine you from the country out from the country.
- 36:35Speaker 1: All right, we love each other. We say. Also, let's
- 36:38Speaker 1: say thank you to all the celebrities that have agreed
- 36:41Speaker 1: to jump on board. You know, and and understand how
- 36:44Speaker 1: wonderful it is to love these kids and and uh
- 36:48Speaker 1: and to love our hbc us and want to give
- 36:50Speaker 1: back and and just contribute something that we know don't
- 36:54Speaker 1: cost nothing. That's you know, um, all of my my
- 37:01Speaker 1: friends out there, all my cousins out there, and those
- 37:04Speaker 1: I want to jump on board to because there's all
- 37:06Speaker 1: that's been calling me. Now, I love you guys so much.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Let's just do it. But boy, he's for more. He's family,
- 37:11Speaker 1: Pottish family and and all the other HPC used. Let's
- 37:15Speaker 1: come up. I'll tell you something. I went in. I
- 37:18Speaker 1: never worked it. It was years ago and this was
- 37:20Speaker 1: Morris Brown. I was visiting. But I was at Morris
- 37:25Speaker 1: Brown and it's at the time when they were dissolving.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Things were going down, and uh, one of my daughter's
- 37:29Speaker 1: friends was there and all the kids ran out and
- 37:32Speaker 1: I felt so bad as they thought I came there,
- 37:34Speaker 1: the saved the student and if I could have saved
- 37:36Speaker 1: for I, actually I would, he say. By the same token.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Florida Memorial is our historical Black college down here in Miami,
- 37:45Speaker 1: and I go out there and do things for them also.
- 37:48Speaker 1: But one of the first times I actually got a
- 37:50Speaker 1: chance to go beyond the theater the low roads before
- 37:53Speaker 1: I'm not sending, which is basically where all the road
- 37:55Speaker 1: to do whatever I had to do, and I watched
- 37:57Speaker 1: the kid from whenever I had to go around because
- 37:59Speaker 1: one of my my my girlfriend's taught music out they
- 38:02Speaker 1: talk instruments and things by land and stuff, and so
- 38:05Speaker 1: I had to go around to the back of the college.
- 38:07Speaker 1: When I got went to the back of the college,
- 38:09Speaker 1: I sat in my car for about five minutes and
- 38:11Speaker 1: a crime and I said, oh my god, Oh my god,
- 38:15Speaker 1: they need to help so bad. I said. I was
- 38:17Speaker 1: always in the front. I always saw what they wanted
- 38:20Speaker 1: me to see. That time I saw what I needed.
- 38:25Speaker 1: So when I say that our boys family needs it,
- 38:30Speaker 1: all of our agecies Okay, college is college and the
- 38:33Speaker 1: universities needed Do you want to see what they what
- 38:37Speaker 1: A lot of them want you to see and some
- 38:39Speaker 1: of them and for the most part, what you see,
- 38:42Speaker 1: it's what it is. But if you see something that's
- 38:45Speaker 1: not what it is, let your heart tell you to
- 38:48Speaker 1: help make it better. Because there's always gonna be some
- 38:51Speaker 1: young people that want to go beyond what they already know.
- 38:56Speaker 1: They want to know more, they want to do more,
- 38:58Speaker 1: they want to be Lord. I wish you and we
- 39:02Speaker 1: will we will thank you. Joe Maury Payton, thank you
- 39:04Speaker 1: for coming on the show. Stream of December first, she's
- 39:07Speaker 1: a chairperson again. Thank you, God bless you. I appreciate you.
