- 0:37Travelers and Monster Catchers abound. I'm Stella
- 0:39Ferris and you've crash -landed it on the Monster
- 0:42Catchers Journal podcast. Today's episode is
- 0:47about a cosmic storm that almost wiped out all
- 0:50of Nibiru. It was an autumn day, as you Earthlings
- 0:54call it. I was sitting on my porch enjoying a
- 0:57nice cup of glow tea. Xena was curled up in a
- 1:00chair next to me with her Ignazura sprawled across
- 1:04her lap. While Luna and Mirino were running around
- 1:08the yard chasing the swell -ceth bird, the swell
- 1:11-ceth bird is a bird that can puff itself out
- 1:15like a puffer fish to keep prey from being able
- 1:18to eat it. I heard the rumble, but I paid no
- 1:23mind to it as thunderstorms are common on Nibiru.
- 1:28However, I started to worry as it got darker
- 1:30and darker. Come on. We must get to Luan. Professor
- 1:34Orion always tells me if a cosmic storm kicks
- 1:37up, go to Luan because it's the only safe place
- 1:41on Nibiru during a cosmic storm. I shout it as
- 1:44Xena and Luna and I, and our three glyphs, Orabic,
- 1:49Ignisura, and Myrno, ran for Luan Academy. The
- 1:53whole town had gathered in the Academy, chattering
- 1:56and speaking amongst themselves about what might
- 2:00be happening. Professor Orion, what's going on,
- 2:05I ask, as I walked into his classroom. A cosmic
- 2:08storm has kicked up over Nibiru, with gale -force
- 2:11winds strong enough to take out all of Nibiru.
- 2:14But terraformia may never be the same. But don't
- 2:19worry, as I've said before, Luan is the safest
- 2:21place on Nibiru," Professor Orion said. I found
- 2:28a spot in Professor Orion's classroom and sat
- 2:31with my back to the corner. I've never been much
- 2:34for having my back exposed to an exit. It just
- 2:37leaves you open for attacks. Luna and Xena sauntered
- 2:44over and sat next to me. A few moments later,
- 2:46my worst nightmare arrived. Nova. What have you
- 2:50done this time, Quasar? Did you catch a time
- 2:56glyph and that's what's causing this cosmic storm?
- 2:59Nova asked in a sarcastic tone. No, I've got
- 3:03nothing to do with this, I replied. Well, that's
- 3:10a first, Nova said as she laughed hysterically.
- 3:13Can you shove off you pekta? I shouted. Language
- 3:17quasar, Orion said from his usual spot at his
- 3:20maps. I was surprised he'd even heard me. Normally
- 3:23when he was poured over his maps and books, He
- 3:26was super focused and didn't hear a word anyone
- 3:29was saying. He had to pick this of all times
- 3:34to hear me, right? Anyways, Nova smirked and
- 3:38said, yeah, what Orion said, language quasar.
- 3:42Is there an echo? Because there seems to be a
- 3:45mockingbird in my class and those do not exist
- 3:48here on Nibiru. We shall keep it that way, Professor
- 3:51Orion said as he went back to his work. I smirked
- 3:55at this, and Nova just gave me a funny look.
- 3:59How long are we going to be here, I ask. Without
- 4:03even looking up from his maps and books, Orion
- 4:06replied, could be days, could be months. Storms
- 4:10like these don't just pass. And with that there
- 4:13was a long bit of silence, aside from the chatter
- 4:19and the constant thumping from the storm outside.
- 4:24Hey, let's play Float Chess, I suggested, trying
- 4:28to make my voice sound like it belonged to someone
- 4:30who wasn't watching the windows turn into a black
- 4:33glass. Xena and Luna brightened like lanterns,
- 4:36Ignisura tucked deeper into Xena's arm, and Myrno
- 4:39did a ridiculous little hop that scattered dust
- 4:44motes into the air. Orabique, always too dignified
- 4:47for games, cocked his head and landed on the
- 4:50nearest window sill. Feathers ruffling, as the
- 4:55gale made the pain sing. For a few heartbeats,
- 5:00the room smelt like warm tea and old books again,
- 5:03and the idea of anything else felt impossible.
- 5:07The chessboard appeared between us, not a board
- 5:10of wood, but a field of pulsing light. Each piece
- 5:13of glyph -stitched figurine that hovered an inch
- 5:17above the table sent us rook -drifted. Ignorzor's
- 5:22night filed through a diagonal with effortless
- 5:26grace. Luna's queen made a showy flourish that
- 5:31sent a ripple through the pieces. We moved in
- 5:34silence at first. The tiny game, a secret rebellion
- 5:38against the thunder outside. The near hiccuped.
- 5:41A low, wrong note vibrated through the academy.
- 5:43The light in the chess pieces flickered and rewound
- 5:47like a scratched crystal. Metal clocks on the
- 5:51wall skipped backward, then thudded forward,
- 5:53hard enough to make the hands quake. Someone
- 5:56stifled a cry, even Professor Orion's maps quivered
- 6:00as though afraid. Nova's laugh cut thin. There
- 6:04it is, the rhythm of the time glyph, she said,
- 6:07but this time her voice had teeth. It isn't just
- 6:11weather, it's folding. She pushed through the
- 6:14crowd toward the front table, where Orion stood,
- 6:17maps spread like a war plan. He looked up, and
- 6:21for the first time the lines around his eyes
- 6:24didn't belong to the maps, but to worry. Luan
- 6:28sits on a weak seam of the nexus, Orion said,
- 6:33voice steady but urgent. When a time glyph stutters,
- 6:37it finds seams to latch onto. The academy's ward
- 6:41will hold for a while, but if the glyph's pulse
- 6:44keeps shifting, if it accelerates, terraformia
- 6:47won't be the only thing that changes. We could
- 6:51lose whole memories. People might slip out of
- 6:53the record. He tapped a star on one of his maps,
- 6:57and the ink around it shimmered like heat haze.
- 7:01Nova's smirk had vanished, so what do we do,
- 7:04map man? Sit here and let the storm eat everything
- 7:07we like? Her fingers were balled into her sleeves.
- 7:10For a heartbeat, I thought she would shoulder
- 7:19Orion aside and go after the glyph herself, the
- 7:24way she always wanted to fix things with force.
- 7:29Orion folded his hands. We stabilized the pulse,
- 7:32anchored the rhythm. There are old Luan rites.
- 7:35They bind temporal drift into the living things.
- 7:40Glyphs can act as conductors. If we hum the right
- 7:43sequence and center the glyph's waveform, but
- 7:46it's dangerous. It requires someone to stand
- 7:48in the seam and hold focus while the rest of
- 7:51us chant. The seam pulls at you. It reaches for
- 7:54what you hold dear. The room inhaled. Luna's
- 7:58fingers found mine and squeezed. Xena's face
- 8:02was alabaster. Mirono gave a tiny worried chirp.
- 8:08Ignizura's sapphire eyes shone like lanterns.
- 8:12Nova's draw worked. I don't like sacrificing
- 8:15people, Professor. You won't necessarily be alone.
- 8:18Orion's gaze flicked to the three of us. To me,
- 8:22to Xena, to Luna. Glyph, Bondit, Host are stronger
- 8:26together. If two or three stand in the seam and
- 8:32lock minds, they can steady it long enough. for
- 8:35a tracer to thread the glyph and calm its pulse.
- 8:41My chest felt like a drum. The storm's thump
- 8:45outside matched it. I looked at my friends, at
- 8:49Xena, whose laugh could make even Orion grin,
- 8:51at Luna, whose hands never stopped moving when
- 8:54she was nervous, at Orabeek, who had pecked me
- 8:57awake more times than I could count. I thought
- 9:00of the swell -keth - Bird puffing itself into
- 9:06safety in our yard and of glow tea cooling on
- 9:10the porch small stubborn proofs That our world
- 9:14had been here long before anyone named it safe
- 9:17I'll do it I said before I could talk myself
- 9:20out of it My voice was quieter than I want it,
- 9:23but steady put me in the seam. I'll hold Nova's
- 9:28eyes cut to me like knives and then unexpectedly
- 9:31softened You always pick the dramatic option,
- 9:34Quasar," she inhaled, and squared her shoulders.
- 9:38Fine, but if you're going to stand there like
- 9:40some tragic statue, I'm not letting you do it
- 9:42alone. Luna's lamps dimmed as the wind reared
- 9:46up again. Outside, something bright and cold
- 9:49streaked across the sky, an oriole scar that
- 9:53painted the clouds in silver. Professor Orange
- 9:56shoved a bundle of thin copper rods against the
- 9:59table tracers. We hum, we hold, we thread. He
- 10:04said, when I give the signal, we start. Keep
- 10:06your mind on one thing, one unmovable truth,
- 10:11your anchor. The storm will try to pry it away
- 10:15from you. I closed my eyes and pictured the porch,
- 10:20my cup of gloaty, warm between my hands. I pictured
- 10:23Xena and Luna laughing on the steps. Ignizara's
- 10:27purr. Mirror -nosed ridiculous hop, I breathe
- 10:30in Luan's old wood smell, felt Orabiq's feathered
- 10:35warmth against my palm, outside the world seemed
- 10:38like a beast, inside my little anchor burned
- 10:41steady, and for the first time since the rumble
- 10:44began I felt ready. Professor Orion raised his
- 10:49hand and the room fell into a silence, so deep
- 10:52I could hear the scratch of chalk dust sliding
- 10:56down the blackboard. The storm pressed against
- 11:00the walls like an angry ocean, but inside, every
- 11:03eye was on him. Now, he whispered, the tracers
- 11:10lit up in our palms, copper glowing as though
- 11:12molten, and a low hum spread through the chamber.
- 11:15It wasn't a song, exactly, it was a little older
- 11:19than that, a vibration that felt like it had
- 11:21been waiting in the bones of Luan Academy since
- 11:24before the first brick was laid. Now, Nova stepped
- 11:28beside me, jaw clenched. Don't you dare falter,
- 11:31she muttered, her voice tight. Don't you dare
- 11:33mock me if I do. I shot back, and for once she
- 11:37didn't smirk. The floor trembled, a seam tore
- 11:40open in the air, like paper splitting in storms.
- 11:43Light bled through, a jagged wound of violet
- 11:47and silver. My chest lurched, as though something
- 11:49inside me recognized it. A pull, sharp and hungry.
- 11:53I gripped the tracer tighter. Orbeek flared his
- 11:56wings, Ignorzor's sapphire body glowed, Myrno
- 11:59bristled like a living wall. They were anchoring
- 12:04us, their presences stretching out like roots
- 12:07into the seam. Luna's voice joined Orion's hum,
- 12:12soft but clear, and Xenna followed, a heartbeat
- 12:14later. The seam widened, time itself stuttered,
- 12:20Luna's hand squeezed mine. Then blinked away,
- 12:24then returned, as though the moment had rewound.
- 12:27Nova cursed under her breath, but steadied her
- 12:29own tracer into the light. The glyph appeared.
- 12:33Not a beast, not a shadow, just a shimmer. A
- 12:35pulse made flesh, shaped like a ripple in water.
- 12:39It had no eyes, yet I felt it looking at us,
- 12:42through us. It was a storm, the fold, the beat
- 12:45of the clocks breaking. Anchor. Orion's voice
- 12:49cut sharp. I shut my eyes and latched onto my
- 12:52truth. The porch, the gloaty, laughter in the
- 12:56yard. The memory burned bright, fighting the
- 13:00pull. But the glyph wasn't content. It reached,
- 13:03clawing at my anchor, tugging at pieces of me
- 13:06I didn't realize were loose. Nova's hum wavered.
- 13:13She grit her teeth, shoulders trembling, and
- 13:15I felt her anchor falter. I shifted, letting
- 13:17my voice join the hum, steady and low. Hold on,
- 13:20Nova. Don't let it take it." She snapped her
- 13:23eyes to mine, and for the first time I saw fear
- 13:25instead of sarcasm. Easier said than, she cut
- 13:28off, voice choked, as the seam yanked at her
- 13:31with invisible hands. Then I shouted over the
- 13:34roar. We have to thread it, now, or we will lose
- 13:37her. Oren's eyes blazed, and he slammed his own
- 13:40tracer into the air. Then thread it. The glyph
- 13:44pulsed harder, and the seam yawned wide enough
- 13:46the stars bled through. Not Nibiru stars, but
- 13:51cold, unfamiliar constellations. I raised my
- 13:54tracer into the rift. The storm howled louder,
- 13:57and my anchor slipped like sand between fingers.
- 14:00Then I felt another hand on mine, warm, steady,
- 14:03Luna's. Her eyes locked with mine, glowing with
- 14:06something fiercer than fear. Together, she whispered.
- 14:10The hum rose, and then the seam screamed. And
- 14:14then the tracer caught. The glyph twisted, shuddered,
- 14:18and folded. in on itself like a collapsing wave.
- 14:21The seam snapped shut with a thunderous crack
- 14:23that shook the academy. Silence fell, real silence,
- 14:28the kind that hummed in your ears because the
- 14:30storm had truly stopped. Nova staggered, breath
- 14:34hard, and labored. Well, she rasped. That was
- 14:41horrifying. Xena laughed weakly, hugging Ignisura
- 14:45so tight the porglyph squealed. Luna's hand was
- 14:49still on mine, and I realized I hadn't let go.
- 14:52Professor Oren lowered his map, his expression
- 14:55unreadable. You've steadied the pulse for now,
- 14:58his eyes flickered to me, but the glyph was not
- 15:00destroyed, only lulled. It will return stronger.
- 15:04Nova straightened, brushing dust off her sleeves.
- 15:07The next time, she said, her smirk returning
- 15:09like a mask. We don't just anchor it, we cage
- 15:12it. I swallowed hard, staring at the still glowing
- 15:20tracer in my hand. I wasn't sure if she was right,
- 15:23but I knew one thing. Nibiru would never be the
- 15:26same. When we finally pushed the Academy doors
- 15:31open, the air outside was damp and heavy, but
- 15:34blessedly still. The storm had passed, leaving
- 15:38the world drenched and glistening. Moonlight
- 15:42and sunlight filled the courtyard in the stone
- 15:47pass, where puddles had gathered like scattered
- 15:50mirrors. Xena stepped out first, Ignizor perched
- 15:55proudly on her shoulder, his sapphire stripes
- 15:58catching the glow of the lamps. She tapped her
- 16:01foot against the puddle and gave a mischievous
- 16:04grin. Splash! Luna didn't hesitate. She darted
- 16:08forward, skirts swishing, and stomped into the
- 16:11nearest puddle with a laugh that rang brighter
- 16:14than any storm could silence. Myrno bound it
- 16:18after her, sending up a spray of water that showered
- 16:21both of them. I couldn't help it. I laughed,
- 16:24too. The weight of the scene, the echo of the
- 16:27glyph, all of it cracked and fell away like broken
- 16:31glass. My feet carried me forward, and I leaped
- 16:33into the biggest puddle I could find, sending
- 16:36water fanning out in every direction. Orabiq
- 16:39let out an indignant squawk as droplets rained
- 16:43over his feathers. But I swear, I caught him
- 16:47ruffling his wings like he was enjoying it. Even
- 16:51Nova had been sulking near the steps, finally
- 16:54gave in. She rolled her eyes, muttered something
- 16:57under her breath, and then stomped hard. Her
- 17:00puddle sent a spray high enough to soak my shoulder.
- 17:04Really, I sputtered. She smirked. Consider it
- 17:07payback, Quasar. We danced like that for what
- 17:10felt like hours, boots splashing, water glistening
- 17:13under the moonlight and the sunlight, laughter
- 17:16echoing through Luan's courtyard for one night.
- 17:20The world wasn't about storms, seams, or glyphs.
- 17:24It was about puddles, friends, and the stubborn
- 17:26joy of being alive after everything tried to
- 17:28take it away. And I think, just maybe, Nibiru
- 17:31itself was laughing with us. The morning after
- 17:37felt like waking from a half -remembered dream.
- 17:40The sky over Nibiru was clear, painted with streaks
- 17:43of soft orange and violet. Dew clung to the academy
- 17:47gardens, and every puddle from the night before
- 17:50shimmered like glass and bowls filled with starlight.
- 17:58We thought maybe, just maybe, the worst was over,
- 18:01but Professor Orion summoned us to his classroom
- 18:04before breakfast. His expression grave. His maps
- 18:07had changed overnight. Where neat lines once
- 18:10traced rivers and coastlines, there were now
- 18:12warped spirals, and jagged rifts etched across
- 18:16them, as though something had dragged its claws
- 18:18through the very world. This was no storm of
- 18:21chance, he said, tapping one of the spirals.
- 18:25The glyph behind it revealed itself in a pattern
- 18:28left behind. I leaned closer. The marks weren't
- 18:32just spirals. They resembled a curling stinger.
- 18:34Orian's voice dropped low, almost reverent. His
- 18:38name is Skelewave. Xena frowned, pulling N 'zorah
- 18:42closer against her chest. Never heard of him.
- 18:47You wouldn't have, Orian replied, I still on
- 18:50the map. He is one of the uncatchables, a skeleton
- 18:54scorpion, his body woven from bones of drowned
- 18:56creatures, his skin nothing but flowing water.
- 18:59He drags the sea with him wherever he goes, and
- 19:02storms follow in his wake. He is neither alive
- 19:06nor dead. He simply endures. Luna shipped it
- 19:11uneasily. Mirono pressed against her legs with
- 19:14a nervous growl. So he caused all that just by
- 19:17existing. Existing, Orion said softly and stirring.
- 19:21If Skelewave moves, the tides of Nibiru move
- 19:24with him. The storm was only a symptom. If he
- 19:27fully awakens, we may see floods that swallow
- 19:32whole valleys. Nova's arms crossed, scoffed,
- 19:36but her voice held no humor. Another uncatchable
- 19:40perfect. Just how many nightmares are out there
- 19:43waiting for us to trip over them. I stared at
- 19:46the storm, marked maps, my tracer still faintly
- 19:49glowing at my side. The storm had been terrifying
- 19:52enough, but the thought of - a skeleton scorpion
- 19:55made of living water, somewhere out there beneath
- 19:58the waves. It's in a chill colder than any rain
- 20:00down my spine. Skelewave, I whispered, testing
- 20:05the name. It tasted like salt and thunder. If
- 20:10he's uncatchable, then what are we supposed to
- 20:13do? I asked. Orion finally looked at me, his
- 20:17expression unreadable. Hope, he said. Hope he
- 20:20does not arise again. But deep down, I wasn't
- 20:23sure hope would be enough. What is hope going
- 20:29to do? Nova snapped, pushing off the wall where
- 20:34she's been leaning. Storms don't stop because
- 20:37you wish they would. Skelewave doesn't care about
- 20:40your maps or our prayers. He'll rise again and
- 20:43when he does, puddle dancing won't save us. Her
- 20:48words land at heavy, even Ignisora hissed, tail
- 20:51lashing, while Mirono tucked himself under Luna's
- 20:54chair with a low whine. Professor Orion didn't
- 20:58flinch, he set down his chalk, finally lifting
- 21:01his eyes to meet Nova's glare. Hope isn't the
- 21:03weapon, Nova, it's the anchor. Without it you'll
- 21:06drown, before Skelewave ever touches you. She
- 21:09scoffed, poetic, but drowning's drowning. Anchor
- 21:12or not? I found myself speaking before I even
- 21:16thought about it. No. He's right. Hope kept us
- 21:19steady in the seam last night. Without it, he
- 21:22would have been shredded like paper. Hope doesn't
- 21:28stop the storm, but it's the only reason we can
- 21:31stand long enough to fight it. Nova froze at
- 21:36that. Her smirk faltered for a second. I thought
- 21:39she might actually agree with me. Instead, she
- 21:41looked away, muttered, We'll see. Orion's gaze
- 21:45softened, but his tone stayed firm. Scalowave
- 21:49is beyond capture, but not beyond observation.
- 21:52If he surfaces again, we must be ready, not to
- 21:56K .H. him, but to learn. Knowledge is the first
- 22:00shield. Xena finally broke the silence, her voice
- 22:02quieter than usual, and if knowledge isn't enough,
- 22:06the professor's eyes darkened. Then, my dear,
- 22:09we make sure hope doesn't leave us, even when
- 22:11everything else does. And with that, guys, this
- 22:17is another episode of the Monster Casters Journal.
- 22:19I hope you have enjoyed, and may the lights and
- 22:23the stars and the gods of Nibiru shine their
- 22:26beautiful light down on you. I will see you next
- 22:28time.
