Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest, the new movie Minions
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Monsters is finally here.
- 0:05Speaker 2: When you think of Minions, the first thing that comes
- 0:07Speaker 2: to mind are those goggles, that banana yellow skin in
- 0:10Speaker 2: their trademark high pitched gibberish, which wasn't supposed to exist.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Yeah. Pierre Coffin, who's voiced the Minions since their first
- 0:17Speaker 3: appearance Indespicable Me, which he also directed, tells Variety he
- 0:21Speaker 3: wasn't meant to provide any permanent vocals in that original script.
- 0:25Speaker 3: They didn't even have dialogue.
- 0:27Speaker 4: It was only a script line that said grew arrives
- 0:30Speaker 4: on stage and the minions clamor his name. So he
- 0:33Speaker 4: hired a team to make something on a computer only
- 0:36Speaker 4: for that scene, but the voices sounded way too digital.
- 0:40Speaker 2: So he did a temp track himself just to temporarily
- 0:42Speaker 2: stand in. He babbled in slow motion, then sped it up,
- 0:45Speaker 2: raising his voice six semitones and set it off. The
- 0:48Speaker 2: studio was like, that's incredible. Can you maybe voice the
- 0:52Speaker 2: minions like a lot? And that started the journey.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Then for the sequel, a European distributor tried to translate
- 0:58Speaker 3: the Minions into Italian and he was like, don't do that.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I have an idea. He started sprinkling in more and
- 1:04Speaker 3: more real languages into Minyonese.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So if you listen closely, there are about a dozen
- 1:09Speaker 2: languages blended in those minions are seriously multilingual minions. And
- 1:13Speaker 2: Monsters is out now.
- 1:15Speaker 3: That's direct from Hollywood.
