- 0:00Acts chapter 18. After these things he left
- 0:03Athens and went to Corinth, and he found a Jew named Aquila, a
- 0:06native of Pontus, having recently come from Italy with
- 0:09his wife Priscilla. Because Claudius had commanded
- 0:11all the Jews to leave Rome, he came to them, and because he was
- 0:15of the same trade, he stayed with them, and they were working
- 0:17for by trade. They were tent makers, and he
- 0:20was reasoning in the synagogue every Sabbath and trying to
- 0:22persuade Jews and Greeks. But when Silas and Timothy came
- 0:26down from Macedonia, Paul began devoting himself completely to
- 0:29the Word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the
- 0:32Christ. When they resisted and
- 0:34blasphemed, he shook out his garments and said to them, Your
- 0:37blood be on your own heads. I am clean.
- 0:40From now on I will go to the Gentiles.
- 0:43Then he left there and went to the House of a man named Tishius
- 0:45Justice, a worshipper of God, whose house was next to the
- 0:49synagogue. Crispus, the leader of the
- 0:51synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his household.
- 0:54And many of the Corinthians, when they heard, were believing
- 0:56and being baptized. And the Lord said to Paul in the
- 0:59night by a vision, Do not be afraid any longer, but go on
- 1:02speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no man
- 1:06will attack you in order to harm you.
- 1:08For I have many people in this city.
- 1:10And he settled there for a year and six months, teaching the
- 1:13word of God among them. But while Gallio was proconsul
- 1:16of Akaya, the Jews with 1 accord rose up against Paul and brought
- 1:20him before the judgement seat, saying, This man persuades men
- 1:23to worship God contrary to the law.
- 1:26But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the
- 1:28Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or a vicious crime, O
- 1:31Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you.
- 1:35But if there are questions about words and names in your own law,
- 1:37look after it yourselves. I'm unwilling to be a judge of
- 1:40these matters. And he drove them away from the
- 1:43judgement seat, and they all took hold of Sosthenes, the
- 1:46leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of
- 1:48the judgement seat. But Gallio was not concerned
- 1:51about any of these things. Paul, having remained many days
- 1:54longer, took leave of the brethren and put out to sea for
- 1:57Syria. And with him were Priscilla and
- 1:59Aquila in Sangria. He had his hair cut, for he was
- 2:02keeping a vow. They came to Ephesus, and he
- 2:05left them there. Now he himself entered the
- 2:07synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
- 2:09When they asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not
- 2:11consent, but taking leave of them and saying, I will return
- 2:14to you again, if God wills, he set sail from Ephesus.
- 2:18When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the
- 2:20church and went down to Antioch, and having spent some time
- 2:24there, he left and passed successively through the
- 2:26Galatian region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.
- 2:30Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an
- 2:33eloquent man, came to Ephesus, and he was mighty.
- 2:36In the Scriptures. This man had been instructed in
- 2:38the way of the Lord, and being fervent in spirit, he was
- 2:41speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus,
- 2:44being acquainted only with the baptism of John.
- 2:47And he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue.
- 2:49But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside
- 2:52and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
- 2:55When he wanted to go across to Achaea, the brethren encouraged
- 2:58him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him.
- 3:01When he had arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed
- 3:03through grace, for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public,
- 3:07demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
