- 3:06Speaker 4: To two Patriot. It's the forty seven Morning Update and
- 3:10Speaker 4: it starts right now.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Story number one.
- 3:13Speaker 5: President Donald Trump responding now to the guilty verdict against
- 3:17Speaker 5: Ryan Ruth. The President asked about it as he was
- 3:21Speaker 5: in New York at the United Nations. Now, before I
- 3:23Speaker 5: let you hear what he had to say, let me
- 3:25Speaker 5: give you some of the background. The charges were federal charges.
- 3:30Speaker 5: There were multiple counts, including attempted assassination of a major
- 3:33Speaker 5: president or candidate at the time. It was Donald Trump
- 3:35Speaker 5: assaulting a federal officer, a Secret Service agent, possessing a
- 3:39Speaker 5: firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, being a
- 3:43Speaker 5: convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of
- 3:46Speaker 5: a firearm with the serial number removed. Those were all
- 3:50Speaker 5: of the major crimes he was charged with. Now, you've
- 3:52Speaker 5: got to go back to September the fifteenth last year,
- 3:56Speaker 5: when the Ruthers found in the shrubbery with a semi
- 3:58Speaker 5: automatic rifle near Trump's US Palm Beach golf Course, mar Lago,
- 4:02Speaker 5: and Trump was there golfing at the time. He had
- 4:05Speaker 5: done surveillance, had burner phones. He was spotted by a
- 4:09Speaker 5: Secret Service agent. He fled, and then he was later arrested. Now,
- 4:13Speaker 5: the defense stance was number one weird. He literally represented
- 4:18Speaker 5: himself at trial. He argued in closing that he didn't
- 4:21Speaker 5: intend to kill anyone and that no shots were ever fired.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Why well, because they saw him and he decided to run. Now,
- 4:28Speaker 5: his alibi there didn't work with a jury he's now
- 4:32Speaker 5: been found guilty. Jury deliberation time was actually less than
- 4:36Speaker 5: three hours. Some sources say it was about two and
- 4:39Speaker 5: a half hours, and the outcome was this. He was
- 4:42Speaker 5: found guilty on all federal charges. The sentencing will now
- 4:47Speaker 5: be second stage of this and he faced his life
- 4:50Speaker 5: in prison. The sentencing is now scheduled on December the eighteenth. Now,
- 4:56Speaker 5: that is when things got crazy after he was found guilty.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Immediately after the verdict was read, then Ruth the attempted
- 5:05Speaker 5: to stab himself in the neck with a pen. He
- 5:09Speaker 5: was quickly restrained by the US Marshals. He appeared uninjured afterwards,
- 5:14Speaker 5: with no visible blood. The Associated Press reported his daughter
- 5:18Speaker 5: was present and reacted emotionally in the courtroom, calling out
- 5:22Speaker 5: to him. Now, there's also another big part of the story.
- 5:26Speaker 5: The President has now responded, and I want you to
- 5:29Speaker 5: listen carefully to what he had to say at the
- 5:31Speaker 5: United Nations.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Mister President, Ryan Ruth, the man who tried to assassinate
- 5:38Speaker 1: you has been convicted and found guilty.
- 5:40Speaker 4: What is your response to Nick.
- 5:42Speaker 6: I'm very appreciative of the justice that was given and
- 5:45Speaker 6: the way it was handled by Pam Bondi and Todd
- 5:48Speaker 6: Blanche and everybody that has been and their team of people.
- 5:53Speaker 6: It was really well handled, and it's very important. You
- 5:56Speaker 6: can't let things like that happen. Nothing to do with me,
- 5:59Speaker 6: but a president or even a person, you can't allow
- 6:02Speaker 6: that to happen. And so justice was served and we'll
- 6:06Speaker 6: see what happens. But I very much appreciate the judge,
- 6:10Speaker 6: a jury, and everybody on that it was so professionally
- 6:13Speaker 6: handled his great honor.
- 6:15Speaker 5: You also noticed there the President did not either a
- 6:19Speaker 5: no or was not asked about the attempted suicide. And
- 6:23Speaker 5: let me get back to that part of the story.
- 6:25Speaker 5: That happened after the jurors exit the courtroom, and that's
- 6:28Speaker 5: when the ruth attempted to stab himself in the neck
- 6:31Speaker 5: with the pen, prompting those marshals to drag him out
- 6:33Speaker 5: of the courthouse. The outlet also reported that his daughter screamed, Dad,
- 6:38Speaker 5: I love you, don't do anything. I'll get you out.
- 6:42Speaker 5: He didn't hurt anybody. She also continued to yell. Now,
- 6:46Speaker 5: as I mentioned a moment ago, he is convicted of
- 6:48Speaker 5: attempting to assassinate a major political candidate, presidential candidate, possessing
- 6:53Speaker 5: a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, assaulting
- 6:56Speaker 5: a federal officer, possessing a firearm in ammunition as a
- 6:59Speaker 5: convicted fellow, and possessing a firearm without a serial number
- 7:03Speaker 5: that was scratched off. He is fifty nine and he
- 7:06Speaker 5: did not testify at his trial. In his closing argument, however,
- 7:11Speaker 5: he told the jurors he didn't intend to kill anyone
- 7:14Speaker 5: that day. He rests his case Monday morning, after questioning
- 7:18Speaker 5: just three witnesses, a firearm expert and two character witnesses
- 7:24Speaker 5: that all coming from the Associated Press. The jury clearly
- 7:28Speaker 5: wasn't buying what he was trying to sell. And now
- 7:31Speaker 5: we know the outcome. Now you can also expect an appeal.
- 7:35Speaker 5: I am sure that is something that will be discussed,
- 7:37Speaker 5: and maybe next time he'll actually have legal representation in
- 7:41Speaker 5: the court room. But as of now, the President of
- 7:44Speaker 5: United States of America, as he put it, said, this
- 7:46Speaker 5: is something we had to make sure happened, not for me,
- 7:50Speaker 5: but for every political candidate, every presidential candidate. We must
- 7:55Speaker 5: stop having this type of violence in this country.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Now. Story number two.
- 7:59Speaker 5: Secret Service is now announcing that they have busted a
- 8:03Speaker 5: massive network that has been used in swatting attacks against Republicans. Now,
- 8:09Speaker 5: if you don't know what swatting is, I'll explain.
- 8:11Speaker 4: It this way.
- 8:12Speaker 5: It's where you call in a fake crisis situation, a
- 8:16Speaker 5: fake hostage situation, to the address of where a conservative lives,
- 8:22Speaker 5: specifically an elected official or conservative commentator, to then put
- 8:26Speaker 5: their life at risk with a massive response, a swat
- 8:29Speaker 5: team is sent in. The Secret Service has now announced
- 8:33Speaker 5: they have uncovered this vast network of over one hundred
- 8:38Speaker 5: thousand simcards and three hundred servers as well in the
- 8:42Speaker 5: New York area, believed to be used by foreign nation
- 8:46Speaker 5: state threat actors and criminals for swatting calls targeting prominent conservatives,
- 8:53Speaker 5: including Marjorlely Taylor Green. The amount of hardware sees in
- 8:57Speaker 5: the bus could be used, they say, to hamper in
- 9:00Speaker 5: New York City and the U. S. Secret Service uncovering
- 9:03Speaker 5: this massive network of more than one hundred thousand simcards
- 9:07Speaker 5: and three hundred servers was located within a thirty five
- 9:11Speaker 5: mile radius in New York City. The operation, believed to
- 9:14Speaker 5: be run by foreign nation state threat actors and criminals,
- 9:19Speaker 5: was uncovered during an investigation to a surge of squatting
- 9:22Speaker 5: calls targeting high ranking government officials, including members of Congress
- 9:27Speaker 5: and members of the Trump administration. Now targets of swatting
- 9:31Speaker 5: calls reportedly included Representative Green, Senator Rick Scott, Nikki Hayley,
- 9:37Speaker 5: and the Secret Service's Advanced Threat Unit, in collaboration with
- 9:41Speaker 5: various law enforcement agencies, traced those squatting calls to several
- 9:45Speaker 5: locations in the New York tri state area. Upon further investigation,
- 9:50Speaker 5: they found a sophisticated network of SIM servers capable of
- 9:55Speaker 5: generating enormous amounts of phone traffic while rapidly switching out
- 10:00Speaker 5: want simcards to evade detection.
- 10:03Speaker 4: I want you to take a listen to Matt McCool.
- 10:05Speaker 5: He is a special Agent in charge of the Secret
- 10:07Speaker 5: Services New York Field Office, and the network, as he
- 10:11Speaker 5: described it, posed an imminent threat to the agency's protective operations.
- 10:16Speaker 5: They said the servers were strategically positioned around New York
- 10:20Speaker 5: cellular network infrastructure so that it could overwhelm the cell towers,
- 10:25Speaker 5: disrupt cell service, and put the entire city of New
- 10:30Speaker 5: York at risk. Take a listen in his announcement today.
- 10:34Speaker 2: My name is Matt McCool, and I'm the special Agent
- 10:37Speaker 2: in charge of the Secret Service New York Field Office.
- 10:40Speaker 2: We are making this announcement as a matter of public
- 10:42Speaker 2: interest given timing, amount and concentration of material recovered during
- 10:47Speaker 2: a recent Secret Service protective intelligence investigation. Following multiple telecommunications
- 10:54Speaker 2: related imminent threats directed towards senior US government officials this spring,
- 10:58Speaker 2: the US Secret Service began a protective intelligence investigation to
- 11:02Speaker 2: determine the extent and impact these threats could have on
- 11:05Speaker 2: protective operations. This was a difficult and complex effort to
- 11:10Speaker 2: identify the source of these fraudulent calls and the impact
- 11:13Speaker 2: on the Secret Service protective mission. During this period, we
- 11:17Speaker 2: leveraged technical assistance and support of federal partners, including Homeland
- 11:21Speaker 2: Security investigations, the Department of Justice, and the Office of
- 11:24Speaker 2: the Director of National Intelligence. We also received phenomenal support
- 11:29Speaker 2: from our state and local law enforcement partners, to include
- 11:32Speaker 2: the NYPD. The investigation led us to the New York
- 11:36Speaker 2: tri state area, where investigators discovered tens of thousands of
- 11:40Speaker 2: co located and network sailor devices capable of carrying out
- 11:44Speaker 2: nefarious telecommunications attacks. These devices allowed anonymous, encrypted communications between
- 11:51Speaker 2: potential threat actors and criminal enterprises, enabling criminal organizations to
- 11:56Speaker 2: operate undetected. This network had the potential to disable cell
- 12:00Speaker 2: phone towers and essentially shut down the cellular network in
- 12:03Speaker 2: New York City. These devices were concentrated within thirty five
- 12:07Speaker 2: miles of the global meeting of the United Nations General
- 12:10Speaker 2: Assembly now underway in New York City. Given the timing,
- 12:14Speaker 2: location and proximity, and potential for significant disruptions to the
- 12:18Speaker 2: New York telecom system, we move quickly to disrupt this network.
- 12:23Speaker 2: To be clear, these recovered devices no longer pose a
- 12:26Speaker 2: threat to the New York tri state area. We will
- 12:30Speaker 2: continue working towards identifying those responsible in their intent, including
- 12:34Speaker 2: whether their plan was to disrupt the UN General Assembly
- 12:38Speaker 2: and communications of government and emergency personnel during the official
- 12:41Speaker 2: visit of world leaders in and around New York City.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Forensic examinations of the equivalent of one hundred thousand cell
- 12:49Speaker 2: phones worth of data is underway. Early analysis indicates cellular
- 12:53Speaker 2: communications between foreign actors and individuals that are known to
- 12:57Speaker 2: federal law enforcement. Given the sensitivity and complexity of this investigation,
- 13:02Speaker 2: we are not able to go into specifics at this time.
- 13:05Speaker 2: This is an open and active investigation and we have
- 13:08Speaker 2: no arrest to announce today. Rather, this announcement is designed
- 13:12Speaker 2: to safeguard critical infrastructure and responsibly provide the public what
- 13:16Speaker 2: we can at this time. The Secret Service will continue
- 13:19Speaker 2: to run down all leads until we fully understand the
- 13:22Speaker 2: intent of the operation and identify those responsible.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Truly incredible there from Matt McCool, the Special Agent in
- 13:29Speaker 5: charge of the Secret Service in New York's Field Office.
- 13:31Speaker 5: The pictures that have been released of these rooms that
- 13:34Speaker 5: have been filled with these servers and these simcards and
- 13:37Speaker 5: to overrun the cell towers was a level of sophistication
- 13:43Speaker 5: that is of professionals. This is not amateur and part
- 13:47Speaker 5: of the reason why I think they're making it so
- 13:48Speaker 5: clear how big of an issue this was and what
- 13:51Speaker 5: was happening.
