- 1:48Speaker 1: the money making conversation. She's my friend, Ki Ki care
- 1:51Speaker 1: Shared Kelly. How you doing my friend? I am doing well?
- 1:55Speaker 1: How are you well? I'm excited? You know, I always
- 1:58Speaker 1: get excited talking to because you're in this rational to me.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I have a twenty three year old daughter, and so
- 2:03Speaker 1: whenever you come on the show, I look for You're
- 2:06Speaker 1: the people in her peer group, you know, because you're
- 2:09Speaker 1: she looked to up to you. She follows you. She
- 2:12Speaker 1: she finds uh your unblinding faith, your your ability to
- 2:16Speaker 1: achieve success. And I usually as an example a lot
- 2:19Speaker 1: of times. So whenever you come on the show, I'm
- 2:21Speaker 1: always excited and she gets excited. So her name is
- 2:24Speaker 1: Christiana McDonald's. But thank you. Now let's talk about this book.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Before we talk about book, let's talk about now that
- 2:31Speaker 1: the movie been out. You know, because when I interviewed you,
- 2:34Speaker 1: the movie came out. But now we've had a year
- 2:37Speaker 1: of the movie being out. How has that transformed your life?
- 2:40Speaker 1: The movie I'm talking about is The Clark's Sisters First
- 2:43Speaker 1: Ladies of Gospel. Well, it has changed my life in
- 2:46Speaker 1: so many ways. One way is when I go to
- 2:48Speaker 1: the store, now I seem like more people know who
- 2:51Speaker 1: I am and they're relating to me as Karen or
- 2:54Speaker 1: calling me Karen. So it has changed my life in
- 2:58Speaker 1: that way. But it also stretched me to be honest.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Um trying to portray my mother vocally and just as
- 3:04Speaker 1: a person, because she's so gracious and she's like a
- 3:07Speaker 1: quiet storm who is not intimidated by people. But it
- 3:11Speaker 1: comes off as like an innocence or like a it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: just so soft. I had to kind of pull back
- 3:17Speaker 1: while working on that role. So it's changed my life
- 3:20Speaker 1: as a woman. And I think it prepared me to
- 3:23Speaker 1: not knowing then while I was actually doing the role
- 3:26Speaker 1: as a single woman, that is preparing me to be
- 3:28Speaker 1: a wife and a mother, just to see things differently. Um,
- 3:31Speaker 1: So it really has changed my life in so many ways.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Of course it was a resume builder, but it was
- 3:37Speaker 1: me performing for my mother, and so it was really
- 3:39Speaker 1: special for me. Well, it was special in a lot
- 3:41Speaker 1: of ways because you know, you reveal, you pull back
- 3:44Speaker 1: to the curtain. In other words, you know, they told
- 3:46Speaker 1: a story about your grandmother, told a story about your
- 3:49Speaker 1: mom and her sister's experience in dealing with your grandmother,
- 3:52Speaker 1: someone who was rather sensitive, and which is great because
- 3:55Speaker 1: it was a story by a woman pushing her children
- 3:58Speaker 1: to be the best that they could be. And I
- 3:59Speaker 1: kind take that away and fast forward. I look at
- 4:02Speaker 1: the book Big, Bold, and Beautiful. That book is about
- 4:06Speaker 1: pushing you and your friends pushing you and helping you
- 4:09Speaker 1: and supporting you to be the best key key you
- 4:12Speaker 1: can be? Is that correct? Absolutely? And I'm it's so
- 4:16Speaker 1: important because you know, I'm a woman to face. So
- 4:19Speaker 1: I believe in the scripture when it says that iron
- 4:21Speaker 1: sharping's iron. And I was just talking to my friend
- 4:23Speaker 1: Tasha Covs Leonard, and she brought out a great point.
- 4:26Speaker 1: She said, Keith, when you say iron sharping's iron, it
- 4:29Speaker 1: could be negative iron that's sharpening negative iron ore. It
- 4:33Speaker 1: could be positive versus positive. And so I think it's
- 4:36Speaker 1: so important what I talked about it in the book
- 4:38Speaker 1: Self Care has everything to do with your squad. You know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: how they're pouring into you, how they're pushing you into destiny,
- 4:45Speaker 1: how they're reminding you of the promises of God. You
- 4:47Speaker 1: have people around you who's always picking at you, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: negative Nancy or negative Joe or whoever you want to
- 4:54Speaker 1: call it. It's like it'll drain you and will cause
- 4:56Speaker 1: you to believe the complete opposite of what you've been dreaming.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So think it's so important to be very particular what
- 5:02Speaker 1: who's in your space, because you can ask somebody that's
- 5:05Speaker 1: against you and they can cover themselves up. It's like
- 5:08Speaker 1: a what do they say, a wolve in sheep's clothing.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So it's so important that we are selective in that area. Yes, well,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know it's important we talk about this. I'm a
- 5:16Speaker 1: slow everything down because I want everybody to understand the
- 5:19Speaker 1: value of this book. And it's not a value that
- 5:23Speaker 1: just a female gender can can take. Nugget to wait,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'm a successful in person in this business. I'm a male.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And when I started reading the book, I went, Okay,
- 5:34Speaker 1: relatable because one of the chapters where you talk about
- 5:38Speaker 1: I always have a phrase, you know, you can't save everyone.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You know, you only have one life jacket. You gotta
- 5:43Speaker 1: let them go. You talk about it, and one of
- 5:44Speaker 1: your chapters about that about people around you and not
- 5:47Speaker 1: understanding that you know, you can't worry sometimes about other
- 5:50Speaker 1: people's rent or the food on their table if they're
- 5:54Speaker 1: not if they don't worry about it, and there's a
- 5:56Speaker 1: chapter about that, and it was really from a business
- 6:00Speaker 1: from a life perspective. I was floored at the relatability
- 6:05Speaker 1: because I go, wow, this is how I think. And
- 6:07Speaker 1: so when some people do memoirs and you're such a
- 6:10Speaker 1: young person, I'm gonna I'm gonna remind you that you're
- 6:12Speaker 1: a young person. And but you also say I've lived
- 6:14Speaker 1: an adults life, you know, and so and We're gonna
- 6:17Speaker 1: get into that in the book, because but let's talk
- 6:19Speaker 1: about that the whole chapter where you wrote about people
- 6:22Speaker 1: around you and then you're taking it personal how you
- 6:24Speaker 1: should treat them. You over worry about them what they
- 6:27Speaker 1: think about you, because it does as an entrepreneur, beyond
- 6:31Speaker 1: a relationship can be damaging. Correct, absolutely. And one thing
- 6:36Speaker 1: that I've learned, and I talked about it in the book,
- 6:38Speaker 1: is that when dealing with people, you have to understand
- 6:40Speaker 1: you're not just dealing with what you have on the surface,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but you're also dealing with the culture that they've come from,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the trauma that they've experienced. So you're not just responding
- 6:49Speaker 1: in that moment to the comment they made. It's a
- 6:51Speaker 1: lot of things that are behind that statement. You know,
- 6:55Speaker 1: when we communicate with each other or sometimes and I
- 6:58Speaker 1: know where in the culture now where everybody is living
- 7:00Speaker 1: for the read ready to let somebody have it. I'm
- 7:02Speaker 1: about to show this person lives sleep while they sleep.
- 7:04Speaker 1: But I guess for me, the way I have been
- 7:07Speaker 1: moving through life, what has changed my perspective is to
- 7:10Speaker 1: simply understand you're not just responding to the person, You're
- 7:13Speaker 1: responding to their life. Circumstances that have molded them into
- 7:17Speaker 1: who they are today. And some people do things and
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's not everything should not be taken personally. So I
- 7:22Speaker 1: absolutely agree with you. And if we don't have that understanding,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and if we're always taking things personally, will always be
- 7:28Speaker 1: responding to any and everything to where it will take
- 7:32Speaker 1: so much energy. It will shift our focus off of
- 7:34Speaker 1: what we really should be focused on onto that person
- 7:38Speaker 1: and just that scenario. And so I have had to
- 7:41Speaker 1: learn that the picture is bigger than me. It's it's
- 7:44Speaker 1: so far beyond one moment, like be a student at
- 7:47Speaker 1: every opportunity you get. But even in the book I
- 7:50Speaker 1: talk about, it's a chapter called making the most of
- 7:53Speaker 1: Every Opportunity, And I just had to learn that after
- 7:57Speaker 1: chapter four. It is the chapter where Shimika, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and y'all went to West Africa, you know. And because
- 8:04Speaker 1: y'all read your book now, I read your book. Now,
- 8:08Speaker 1: it's the beauty of this book. Okay, uh, we're talking
- 8:11Speaker 1: about I'm talking to Keiki or kre She or Kelly.
- 8:15Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about Jordan in a minute, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: because she had to she had to figure out how
- 8:19Speaker 1: to find him, and she talks about that journey because
- 8:22Speaker 1: sometimes you know, at one point in life. Let me
- 8:24Speaker 1: get ahead of the story, because I want to go
- 8:26Speaker 1: back a little bit about This is why I really
- 8:28Speaker 1: loved the book, because you're You're beautiful, your your your faith.
- 8:34Speaker 1: You come from a legacy family or gospel, and sometimes
- 8:38Speaker 1: people can see a certain degree of perfection. And we
- 8:42Speaker 1: talk about that a little bit in your book, you know,
- 8:44Speaker 1: the silver Spoon chapter and finding yourself. And in the
- 8:49Speaker 1: process of that, when you talk about the bad relationship,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I went, wow, you know, because people don't think you
- 8:54Speaker 1: have a bad relationship. People don't think that you have
- 8:57Speaker 1: bad days. And I felt to me and it's written
- 9:01Speaker 1: early on in the book, because I thought that was
- 9:03Speaker 1: important because any young reader, especially young women readers, I
- 9:07Speaker 1: thought that was important that you allowed yourself to show
- 9:11Speaker 1: us the side of you that we didn't see. We see.
- 9:13Speaker 1: We see success, we see awards, we see a happy marriage,
- 9:17Speaker 1: we see photo ops in essence and magazines and online.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But that was important that you wrote the truth to
- 9:24Speaker 1: a degree of showing people that I am just like you.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I have bad days, I make mistakes in the men
- 9:31Speaker 1: that I select, I am not perfect. Tell us about
- 9:34Speaker 1: the importance of that. Well, first, it's important. At one
- 9:38Speaker 1: scenario that I remember when I started to understand the
- 9:42Speaker 1: significance in the process of healing is when I fell
- 9:45Speaker 1: off of a bike. And I think I talked about
- 9:48Speaker 1: this in the book, but I fell off of a
- 9:49Speaker 1: bike and my mom, of course, she told me, you
- 9:52Speaker 1: know what to do, go ahead and put on the
- 9:54Speaker 1: band aid. But she noticed that I kept getting in
- 9:56Speaker 1: the tub and taking showers with the same band aid,
- 9:59Speaker 1: not cleaning it, and just the sore or the scalp
- 10:01Speaker 1: began to get soggy, so it wasn't healing properly, so
- 10:05Speaker 1: it was becoming something more than what it actually was
- 10:08Speaker 1: in that moment. So speaking of transparency and letting these
- 10:11Speaker 1: things out, it's a part of healing. You have to
- 10:14Speaker 1: let oxygen into your wound so that they can heal properly.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And that's what I'm doing through my life and through
- 10:20Speaker 1: me speaking about it, through me talking about it, but
- 10:22Speaker 1: not only that this form appealing which as a woman
- 10:25Speaker 1: of faith, there's a scripture that says confess your thoughts
- 10:28Speaker 1: one to another that you may receive healing. Therapy did
- 10:31Speaker 1: not come from culture. Therapy came from God. He says,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you people that you can talk to.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But the latter part of that scripture says, the prayers
- 10:40Speaker 1: of the righteous avail. If much, it's just all in
- 10:43Speaker 1: who I talk to. If I'm talking to the right person,
- 10:46Speaker 1: a righteous individual, I can trust that then they can
- 10:49Speaker 1: carry my secrets, carry my issues, and then take them
- 10:52Speaker 1: to God, because I need someone to take me to
- 10:54Speaker 1: God or carry me to God when I can't get
- 10:57Speaker 1: myself to them. And so that even speaks to the
- 10:59Speaker 1: self squad HEAs of it. But that's why I wanted
- 11:02Speaker 1: to be transparent here, because I want you to know
- 11:05Speaker 1: that I can relate. And I think the connectivity again,
- 11:08Speaker 1: like we've mentioned, it's all in providing a solution for
- 11:12Speaker 1: someone who may feel like they're alone. Very often will
- 11:15Speaker 1: soak in it, will get into depression, will become anxious,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and it's because we feel like we're alone. And so
- 11:21Speaker 1: with this conversational approach and me hoping that the reader
- 11:24Speaker 1: will be like, you know what, this is my girl,
- 11:26Speaker 1: I can relate, I connect I'm hoping that they will
- 11:29Speaker 1: become free from listening and reading to that so reading
- 11:32Speaker 1: the book, So that was my whole intent transparency is
- 11:35Speaker 1: healing me, but it's in return healing the reader as well. Well,
- 11:39Speaker 1: you had attitude in this book, too fresh with that dude.
- 11:42Speaker 1: That dude, he's gonna call you unattractive and mess with
- 11:45Speaker 1: your weight. And you could, Hey, maybe my bigness is
- 11:48Speaker 1: just too enough for your smallness. I would. And you
- 11:53Speaker 1: know what, it's so many of us who allowed people
- 11:57Speaker 1: to speak to us, and and sometimes it comes in
- 12:00Speaker 1: places we don't expect, and so and just to answer
- 12:03Speaker 1: your question, and because I know I went to far
- 12:04Speaker 1: left field, but I wanted to talk about it because
- 12:07Speaker 1: I had to get it wrong for me to understand
- 12:10Speaker 1: what was right. And that's what led me to my husband.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Now this healthy relationship. Like before I was like, Hey,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I want to pray in my relationships, or I want
- 12:19Speaker 1: you to call me a little bit more often, send
- 12:21Speaker 1: me a text check on me. In another relationship that
- 12:25Speaker 1: was too much for them. But now that I'm with
- 12:27Speaker 1: my husband, and just in the first dating steps of
- 12:30Speaker 1: you know, with Jordan's, he showed me that I wasn't
- 12:33Speaker 1: too much. It was just that I was asking someone
- 12:36Speaker 1: who only had a pint um to pour into this
- 12:40Speaker 1: gallon size of Now I'm with Jordan's he can give
- 12:43Speaker 1: me a gallant, I can give him a gallant with
- 12:45Speaker 1: filling each other up. And so that's why I wanted
- 12:48Speaker 1: to tell young women that to the other problem was
- 12:51Speaker 1: speaking of young people. My father told me the rue
- 12:54Speaker 1: word of dating is data. Talk about money making conversation.
- 12:58Speaker 1: We put up ourselves for discount, Lois Batton, don't go
- 13:02Speaker 1: on discount. Why do you think you need to put
- 13:04Speaker 1: yourself up on discount? So make sure you understand that
- 13:08Speaker 1: you don't have to play white. So someone that's only
- 13:11Speaker 1: making themselves available as boyfriend, play the game. And as
- 13:15Speaker 1: Steve Harvey said, think act like a woman, but think
- 13:18Speaker 1: like a man. And so that's why I had to
- 13:20Speaker 1: play the game, and I had to learn listen, I
- 13:22Speaker 1: may not be your cup of tea, but I'm for
- 13:24Speaker 1: show a hot, spicy comp of tea. It's some it's
- 13:28Speaker 1: some ginger in there. Okay. It's finally here the season
- 13:32Speaker 1: of celebration. And no matter how you celebrate with family
- 13:36Speaker 1: and friends, whether you're preparing for reys magos or Karamu
- 13:39Speaker 1: lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass coals has
- 13:43Speaker 1: just what you need to make those traditions special. Plus
- 13:47Speaker 1: you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send warm
- 13:50Speaker 1: wishes with Cozy Fleece's sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws. Support
- 13:54Speaker 1: minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from Human
- 13:58Speaker 1: Nation and shame moisture, or treat them to everyone's favorite
- 14:01Speaker 1: active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas, and under Armor.
- 14:06Speaker 1: And in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares is donating
- 14:09Speaker 1: eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed to the
- 14:13Speaker 1: health and well being of our communities. No matter how
- 14:16Speaker 1: you celebrate, when you shop at Cole's, you're right where
- 14:19Speaker 1: you belong. So this season, give with all your heart
- 14:23Speaker 1: with great gifts from Coals or coals dot com. Look
- 14:26Speaker 1: for your children's eyes to see the true magic of
- 14:29Speaker 1: a forest. It's a storybook world for them. You look
- 14:33Speaker 1: and see a tree. They see the wrinkled face of
- 14:35Speaker 1: a wizard with arms outstretched to the sky. They see
- 14:39Speaker 1: treasure and pebbles. They see a windy path that could
- 14:42Speaker 1: lead to adventure, and they see you. They're fearless. Guide
- 14:46Speaker 1: through this fascinating world. Find a forest near you and
- 14:50Speaker 1: start exploring a Discover the Forest dot Org brought to
- 14:53Speaker 1: you by the United States Forest Service and the ad Council.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Look for your children's eyes to see the true magic
- 14:59Speaker 1: of a four forest. It's a storybook world for them.
- 15:02Speaker 1: You look and see a tree, They see the wrinkled
- 15:05Speaker 1: face of a wizard with arms outstretched to the sky.
- 15:09Speaker 1: They see treasure and pebbles. They see a windy path
- 15:12Speaker 1: that could lead to adventure, and they see you. They're fearless. Guide.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Is this fascinating world? Find a forest near you and
- 15:20Speaker 1: start exploring and discover the forest dot org brought to
- 15:23Speaker 1: you by the United States Forest Service and the Council.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'm telling you this is the book. This is the book.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I'll tell you. Oh my, I'm says, I am so excited.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You know this, this whole book, the Big Bowl and
- 15:38Speaker 1: beautiful owning the woman God made you to be. And
- 15:40Speaker 1: that's just a sample size of what came out and
- 15:44Speaker 1: just hit me in my face in a positive way.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Because this this we're in an interesting life because, like
- 15:51Speaker 1: you said, when you was eighteen, in the period when
- 15:54Speaker 1: you hit the record labels, they only want to take
- 15:56Speaker 1: pictures of your face and profiles. They didn't really want
- 15:59Speaker 1: to take a picture your full body. That was before
- 16:02Speaker 1: you know, the curved Dove came out with those curvy
- 16:04Speaker 1: ads and the curvy full figure models were hitting the
- 16:07Speaker 1: runways and all that. Talk about that here because I
- 16:10Speaker 1: have a lot of parents listening to the show, and
- 16:13Speaker 1: I may have some young adults, especially women, And this
- 16:16Speaker 1: is a section I really want to focus on the
- 16:18Speaker 1: women conversation because men in journal don't have the physical
- 16:22Speaker 1: size issues that women have to deal with. Because commercials
- 16:25Speaker 1: tell you should look like this commercial print asks tell
- 16:28Speaker 1: you should wear this size and things like that. And
- 16:31Speaker 1: then we're gonna get into you being launching that that
- 16:33Speaker 1: that what someone would consider a negative experience into a
- 16:36Speaker 1: successful business eleven sixty. But talk about when you was
- 16:40Speaker 1: eighteen at the record label. Yeah, I'm so excited that
- 16:44Speaker 1: you read. But I have to say, um, that was
- 16:50Speaker 1: an interesting experience. And I think I mentioned before while
- 16:54Speaker 1: we were talking. Sometimes you have this pushback from areas
- 16:58Speaker 1: that you didn't expect it, and it can be from
- 17:00Speaker 1: places that you trusted, hoping that it will be a
- 17:03Speaker 1: place to that would build you up. But that's the
- 17:06Speaker 1: moment where you figure out, oh, you're there to tear
- 17:09Speaker 1: me down. It was just you had to get in
- 17:11Speaker 1: good with me, and so I definitely had that that
- 17:14Speaker 1: experience where, um, you know, I just dealt with industry
- 17:18Speaker 1: pressure and um it's simple as I am. I often
- 17:22Speaker 1: still have to tell people, you know, listen, I love God.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I'm a simple girl. I don't want to always put
- 17:28Speaker 1: on And I think this, uh, the new culture and
- 17:30Speaker 1: even the listeners and the demo, they're learning that I
- 17:35Speaker 1: don't got to do all of that, you know anymore.
- 17:38Speaker 1: And if I don't, there is an audience that is
- 17:41Speaker 1: waiting to hear from me. And of course, now I'm
- 17:43Speaker 1: not saying don't change your position in heart, because I
- 17:47Speaker 1: think it's so important that we remain students at heart,
- 17:50Speaker 1: because that's what makes you timeless. But I think, uh,
- 17:54Speaker 1: the other piece that young women should know is to
- 17:56Speaker 1: not compare yourselves. Uh. I think Theodore rose A Belt
- 18:00Speaker 1: said before that comparison is the thief of joy. You'll
- 18:03Speaker 1: find yourself trying to catch up with culture saying it
- 18:05Speaker 1: is the pretty thing to do or the thing to do,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and find that it's unobtainable for you because that was
- 18:12Speaker 1: never for you, that wasn't assigned to you. And so
- 18:14Speaker 1: speaking of the word big in this this book, uh,
- 18:18Speaker 1: it was It was an insecurity for me once upon
- 18:20Speaker 1: a time. But I had to stop asking people what
- 18:22Speaker 1: they thought about me in my life, and I had
- 18:25Speaker 1: to ask God, what do you think? Let me ask
- 18:27Speaker 1: the inventor about his invention rather than going with people.
- 18:31Speaker 1: That's just trying to figure out how do I stay
- 18:32Speaker 1: in touch with you? But I have those chapters in
- 18:35Speaker 1: the book, and one chapter chapter eight, and says stop
- 18:37Speaker 1: comparing you. I'm so mad at you. You stole my
- 18:41Speaker 1: thought because I'm about to say that chapter eight, I'm
- 18:43Speaker 1: about to say, stopped comparing yourself. It's chapter eight. You're
- 18:46Speaker 1: making me mad. Now I gotta let you know I
- 18:49Speaker 1: love this book, girl, I love people. That's chapter eight.
- 18:53Speaker 1: You just recited chapter eight, Yes, sir, And I was
- 18:56Speaker 1: gonna throw out there chapter um, chapter of fourteen to
- 19:01Speaker 1: where I say, stop looking at the other woman because
- 19:04Speaker 1: you've got the Jews sometimes. The court I love out
- 19:07Speaker 1: of chapter eight is no one had the power to
- 19:10Speaker 1: be me. Yeah, that's and that's the quote I wrote
- 19:13Speaker 1: down out of chapter eight. That's why I still with
- 19:16Speaker 1: me because you know, you know, I'm having a great
- 19:18Speaker 1: conversation and with you, and I just want to just
- 19:21Speaker 1: let you know that It resonated with me because in
- 19:24Speaker 1: the end, you know, write the book. You know, I've
- 19:28Speaker 1: been fortunate to be around individuals who have written a
- 19:30Speaker 1: successful book. And as you start to write, you have
- 19:33Speaker 1: a story, but then you start taking layers off and
- 19:35Speaker 1: you go, wow, I forgot about that. I forgot about that.
- 19:39Speaker 1: And then I know in writing this book, layers are
- 19:42Speaker 1: starting to get peel back. And it also is a relief,
- 19:46Speaker 1: Like like you said, to be able to tell your
- 19:48Speaker 1: story was a blessing for the reader, but also a
- 19:51Speaker 1: blessing from you for you because of the fact that
- 19:55Speaker 1: you would able to get these layers out of realize
- 19:57Speaker 1: how much you've grown as a person, because one point
- 20:00Speaker 1: in your life you just want to get married. You
- 20:02Speaker 1: just felt that was a need to get married. And
- 20:04Speaker 1: I want to bring that up because sometimes a man
- 20:08Speaker 1: in this case, because you're a woman, a man would
- 20:10Speaker 1: walk into your life. That doesn't mean that's the man.
- 20:14Speaker 1: And and and that's what this book talks about. Because
- 20:17Speaker 1: the man that she eventually got with, who had that
- 20:20Speaker 1: gallon of water because she needed a gallon of water,
- 20:23Speaker 1: she had known him all her life. He had been
- 20:27Speaker 1: walking around all his and he didn't even know it either,
- 20:30Speaker 1: So it wasn't on her. It wasn't just on her
- 20:32Speaker 1: not seeing that that that they both were walking into
- 20:35Speaker 1: church or walking through life half feeled they had eventually
- 20:39Speaker 1: slowed down and realized we've been looking at the wrong
- 20:43Speaker 1: opportunity when the opportunity was sitting right across the aisle
- 20:47Speaker 1: in this case church. Talk about that. Come on, I know,
- 20:50Speaker 1: preaching a little bit for your MISSI Kiki. You know
- 20:52Speaker 1: what I'm saying. You are driving jams and I'm loving it.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Um I I can only agree with you. I think
- 21:02Speaker 1: to a part of that evolution for me was me
- 21:06Speaker 1: having the time of being single. So there's also a
- 21:09Speaker 1: chapter in the book where I talk about being successfully
- 21:12Speaker 1: single because you have to find yourself because, like you said,
- 21:16Speaker 1: every person that comes in your life that ain't always
- 21:20Speaker 1: the one. And I think it goes back a point
- 21:22Speaker 1: to the again to the point that Dad mentioned, which
- 21:26Speaker 1: was date the person, collect the information so you can
- 21:30Speaker 1: draw the conclusion or the final result. So I definitely agree.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I think you said it all. But again my husband
- 21:38Speaker 1: showed me that no, you're not complicated. It's just you
- 21:41Speaker 1: were asking the wrong person to love on you and
- 21:44Speaker 1: they weren't equipped to give you what you needed. And
- 21:47Speaker 1: so I definitely agree with that all. And I think too,
- 21:51Speaker 1: if we're not careful because we are in the wrong place,
- 21:54Speaker 1: will begin settling. We'll say I've been asking for this,
- 21:57Speaker 1: I've been praying for this, and we'll look at everybody
- 22:00Speaker 1: to else's like like I said, once, U fun a time,
- 22:02Speaker 1: what was Sierra's prayer with russell Um And so I
- 22:06Speaker 1: understand what that's like. But we also have to get
- 22:09Speaker 1: to a place where I'm not settling for anything outside
- 22:13Speaker 1: of what I asked for. Like, no, that it's out there.
- 22:16Speaker 1: If God put it in you uh to ask for
- 22:19Speaker 1: it in prayer, if you have the audacity to think
- 22:21Speaker 1: of it, then it's obtainable. It's just make sure you're
- 22:24Speaker 1: available and open to love. But I was so closed
- 22:27Speaker 1: off and wanting one thing to work that I completely
- 22:31Speaker 1: had shut off every you know, all of the great possibilities.
- 22:34Speaker 1: So I agree with well, you know, by the way
- 22:37Speaker 1: successfully singles Chapter twelve. Okay, chapter two just laid down. No,
- 22:43Speaker 1: we just breaking down the chapter as you go along,
- 22:46Speaker 1: because now I want to go back before we wrap up.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about the entrepreneurship because that's a
- 22:51Speaker 1: part of this that really blew this book up for
- 22:54Speaker 1: me because it's written from a woman's perspective, but it
- 22:58Speaker 1: also layers out how you took a negative you know,
- 23:03Speaker 1: uh and turn it into a business. But along the
- 23:05Speaker 1: way you had to uh you know, because because it
- 23:10Speaker 1: was a link that I think Lukisha sent to you,
- 23:13Speaker 1: the Lukisha sent to you that that enabled you to
- 23:16Speaker 1: get into Macy's. And so that's why you say you
- 23:20Speaker 1: are the ball. That's the that's the God is the ball. Ball,
- 23:22Speaker 1: God is your agent. That's that chapter. God is that
- 23:24Speaker 1: your age chapter? And I'll tell okay, I um, you know,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I for the reason I'm excited because you know, I've
- 23:37Speaker 1: interviewed you and we we've we've we've we've because we
- 23:40Speaker 1: like our tone. But to really see how beautiful you
- 23:45Speaker 1: are and how how you you. You're giving us a
- 23:48Speaker 1: blessing in this book to be able to change lives.
- 23:51Speaker 1: That's because that's what I think, like a man uh
- 23:53Speaker 1: did for a lot of women. It just opened their eyes.
- 23:56Speaker 1: And this book can do so much for so many
- 24:00Speaker 1: young women, women who are trying to start businesses, women
- 24:03Speaker 1: who are frustrating relationship, women who are doubting themselves physically, mentally, emotionally,
- 24:09Speaker 1: but more importantly, the fastest growing business or franchise of
- 24:14Speaker 1: of of of the business world, or women and especially
- 24:17Speaker 1: women of color. And to write a book where I
- 24:20Speaker 1: think lends so many value lessons of how to because
- 24:25Speaker 1: I've talked about Courtney, and Courtney that's your ride or die?
- 24:28Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. When Ball was being stupid,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you called Courtney and she didn't say nothing negative about you,
- 24:33Speaker 1: she didn't throw it back in your face. She said, hey,
- 24:35Speaker 1: come with me, girl, let's go over here. Let's keep
- 24:37Speaker 1: supporting you. And so, but these are the people that
- 24:40Speaker 1: you talk about. You layout you said, Richard, you gotta
- 24:43Speaker 1: have the people because you know, it was funny when
- 24:44Speaker 1: you were talking about Courtney. I was thinking about my
- 24:46Speaker 1: ride to die? Dude, who is that person? So you
- 24:49Speaker 1: made me sit back and go, Okay, Mr Successful, who
- 24:52Speaker 1: is your Courtney? Because you gotta have a Courtney. You
- 24:55Speaker 1: gotta have somebody to call when you die, because you're
- 24:57Speaker 1: gonna have down days, you have doubtful days. Who was
- 25:00Speaker 1: that person? But more importantly that led you to become
- 25:03Speaker 1: an entrepreneur and that's where you had you know, your
- 25:06Speaker 1: your other girls, stepping in your travel, made with all
- 25:10Speaker 1: over the world, career, everything for your business. It was
- 25:13Speaker 1: sitting right there with you at Macy's launching your didn't
- 25:16Speaker 1: know what you were really doing, but you did it.
- 25:18Speaker 1: That's the faith. But there was also having somebody support
- 25:22Speaker 1: your dream. Talk about that. It's so important. And I've
- 25:25Speaker 1: been in a space where I've had people around that
- 25:29Speaker 1: were there, you know, just by work and happenstance, but
- 25:33Speaker 1: they weren't really in my corner. They didn't understand my
- 25:35Speaker 1: vision um and it's like, you know, Okay, how do
- 25:38Speaker 1: we collaborate together? How are we? You know, life partners
- 25:41Speaker 1: is not just in the marriage and has everything to
- 25:44Speaker 1: to do with your purpose. When you make decisions in
- 25:47Speaker 1: your work or in your career, it shouldn't feel like work.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It should feel like fun, Like I'm just I'm just
- 25:53Speaker 1: living on purpose. This is just what I'm called to do.
- 25:56Speaker 1: And I think that when you're prayerful and asking, Lord,
- 26:00Speaker 1: give me this sense of desernment so I can know
- 26:03Speaker 1: who is assigned to me and who's supposed to walk
- 26:05Speaker 1: this journey for me or with me. Because there are
- 26:08Speaker 1: expiration dates on some relationships and connections that we have,
- 26:12Speaker 1: but if we don't respect them, then we'll get exasperated,
- 26:15Speaker 1: we can become sick. It's like if we drink some
- 26:18Speaker 1: milk that has an expiration date on it, eventually it
- 26:21Speaker 1: will make us sick. Our bodies won't respond well to it.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And so it's the same thing with people. So you
- 26:26Speaker 1: said it again from reading the book, but it's so
- 26:29Speaker 1: important to make sure that tribe and I talk about
- 26:32Speaker 1: it again twice. So it was squad goes and then
- 26:35Speaker 1: it was another chapter called finding your tribe. When you're
- 26:38Speaker 1: going out into the earth, you it's not you can't
- 26:41Speaker 1: fight everything. You need somebody to have your back. And
- 26:44Speaker 1: so those names that you called, they're simply women who
- 26:47Speaker 1: I have said. It's family. And you know what, if
- 26:50Speaker 1: you allow me as a woman of faith, I'm always
- 26:52Speaker 1: giving scripture. But they're the scripture that says, um, I
- 26:55Speaker 1: will give you a friend that is closer than the brother.
- 26:58Speaker 1: That wasn't Jesus that we're talking about. They were talking
- 27:01Speaker 1: about human beings, and so I think we should understand
- 27:05Speaker 1: that covenant relationships are ordained by Heaven and God loves
- 27:10Speaker 1: us through people. But it's just a matter of who
- 27:13Speaker 1: are the people were saying yes to Because the adversary
- 27:16Speaker 1: the appoint the opponent that he also uses people, So
- 27:20Speaker 1: make sure you say yes to the right people. Wow.
- 27:24Speaker 1: You know, um nothing that I expected this from you. Uh,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and that don't apologize. Uh, it's been inspirational. But the
- 27:34Speaker 1: the whole prospect though, would you say it is faith?
- 27:38Speaker 1: When you was at Macy's with Shamika your girl, you're
- 27:42Speaker 1: you're ride or die career, you know, du Baie. I'm
- 27:45Speaker 1: just we're just calling out some countries that y'all went to,
- 27:48Speaker 1: you know, in West Africa. You know. Just let you know,
- 27:50Speaker 1: you boy read the book, you know this case. You
- 27:52Speaker 1: thought I was stumbling. You know, I'm not reading nothing.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I'm not reading nothing. I'm just I'm just I'm just
- 27:57Speaker 1: coming from you know, God's memory. That's all. That's all
- 28:01Speaker 1: right here, Thank you so much. I think it was
- 28:06Speaker 1: it was a It was a faith piece for sure,
- 28:08Speaker 1: because um it, I looked at it as spam. When
- 28:12Speaker 1: my cousin Keisha sent it to me, I was like, girl,
- 28:15Speaker 1: you know how they send those chain text messages and
- 28:18Speaker 1: they say signed up for this, and I'm like, I'm
- 28:20Speaker 1: not signing up for this, Like it was just like whatever.
- 28:23Speaker 1: So I really wasn't expecting every opportunity, even this book opportunity,
- 28:27Speaker 1: if you allow me to use that as a reference point.
- 28:29Speaker 1: The opportunity was in an email account that I just
- 28:33Speaker 1: had put aside for spam. But something told me, and
- 28:38Speaker 1: you know, again, excuse me. I'm a church girl. So
- 28:40Speaker 1: you know how the scene the season says, they say, girl,
- 28:43Speaker 1: that wasn't something that was the whole a goals, But
- 28:45Speaker 1: something told me to go and check the email, and
- 28:49Speaker 1: here I am bumping into a book opportunity. And so
- 28:53Speaker 1: I definitely think it was divine. But I think and
- 28:56Speaker 1: I believe that God uses people to hand you what
- 29:01Speaker 1: belongs to you, that he gives you those moments. And
- 29:04Speaker 1: that's why I said it in that chapter, Um, God
- 29:07Speaker 1: as my agent, because sometimes you know pr management, they
- 29:11Speaker 1: I mean, believe me when I say they put in
- 29:14Speaker 1: the hard work and it has everything to do with
- 29:16Speaker 1: where we're going and where we are. But sometimes God
- 29:19Speaker 1: does things so that only he can get the glory.
- 29:22Speaker 1: And so I will say, you know, God took me there,
- 29:26Speaker 1: but there was some other moments where I had to
- 29:28Speaker 1: work for it. So even in the word it says
- 29:30Speaker 1: you gotta put action to your faith so you can
- 29:33Speaker 1: believe a thing, but what you're gonna do when you
- 29:35Speaker 1: get there? So a lot of us are like, oh,
- 29:37Speaker 1: I want this, I want that, I want this, I
- 29:39Speaker 1: want that, But are you ready for it? Is your
- 29:41Speaker 1: character gonna keep you there? Is your work ethic gonna
- 29:44Speaker 1: keep you there. So I definitely think it is two
- 29:47Speaker 1: things that are colliding together, and it is my faith
- 29:50Speaker 1: and my action. I'm just I've been loving it. You know.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I rarely do I have interviews where it's a motivational
- 29:57Speaker 1: This motivational interview right here, you're just dropping these nuggs.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I was just sitting back on do your thing. You're
- 30:02Speaker 1: do your thing? What do I pass to play? What
- 30:04Speaker 1: do I pass to play? Because you are dropping scriptures,
- 30:07Speaker 1: you're dropping the truth. But more importantly, you've written amazing book, big, bold,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and beautiful, Owning the woman God made. I love this
- 30:15Speaker 1: part Owning the woman God made you to be. That's
- 30:19Speaker 1: it's not about your mistakes that you made in the past.
- 30:22Speaker 1: It's not about what people think of you now. It's
- 30:24Speaker 1: who what do you think of yourself? And that's what
- 30:26Speaker 1: this journey is about in this book, Because if every
- 30:29Speaker 1: woman who reads this book. I'll just tell you this woman,
- 30:32Speaker 1: because I'm talking about group with six sisters. I have
- 30:34Speaker 1: only one child. She's female. My daughter love her to death,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and and I love what you've done because you're given
- 30:41Speaker 1: her an opportunity to read an inspirational, motivational I would say, uh,
- 30:46Speaker 1: book you know of entrepreneurship and based on your memoir,
- 30:51Speaker 1: and you was on enough, honest enough to tell us
- 30:54Speaker 1: share some of your stories. And all stories aren't good stories,
- 30:57Speaker 1: but if they told for the right reason, they are blessing.
- 31:00Speaker 1: And I considered this book of blessing. Thank you, Thank
- 31:03Speaker 1: you so much, and I appreciate you supporting me and
- 31:07Speaker 1: both in both fields and with the music we're talking
- 31:10Speaker 1: and now with the book we're talking. Don't forgetting three three,
