- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Hello and welcome to Connecting the Dots.
- 0:17It's Monday, November 3rd, 2025, and we're coming
- 0:20to you live from Sacramento, California. Great
- 0:23to be here. Let's connect some dots today. Absolutely.
- 0:25First up, our quick morning check -in. Here in
- 0:28Sacramento, it's looking like another beautiful
- 0:31day. Sunny skies, high around 73 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 0:35Pretty nice for early November. Wish I could
- 0:37say the same everywhere. Nationally, it's a bit
- 0:40more dramatic. There's a cold front barreling
- 0:42through the Great Lakes and the Northeast. So
- 0:45expect some chill there. OK. And out west, closer
- 0:48to us, but more north. the Pacific Northwest,
- 0:52Washington, Oregon, even Northern California,
- 0:54and this here in Nevada, they're bracing for
- 0:56a pretty strong atmospheric river midweek. So
- 0:59yeah, lots happening. Definitely a tale of two
- 1:01coasts there. All right, let's look at the markets
- 1:03quickly. Things are a little shaky today, but
- 1:05let's try to stay optimistic, right? Always.
- 1:07What are we seeing? The Dow Jones is down about
- 1:09172 points. That's roughly 0 .36%. But looking
- 1:15weakly, it's actually up slightly, about a quarter
- 1:17per count. So not panic stations yet. No, not
- 1:19at all. S &P 500 is pretty similar, down about
- 1:2119 points today, or 0 .28%, but also slightly
- 1:25up 0 .26 % for the week. Bitcoin, though, that's
- 1:29where the bigger volatility is. It dropped significantly
- 1:32today over $3 ,000, which is almost 3%. Yeah,
- 1:37and its weekly change is down nearly 6%. So,
- 1:40you know, something to keep an eye on, especially
- 1:42when we talk about big tech investments. Definitely
- 1:44relevant context. Now, before we dive into today's
- 1:47main topic, we really want to thank our sponsor,
- 1:49Old Glory. Yes, we love Old Glory. If you're
- 1:52looking for awesome music, movie, or sports fan
- 1:54merchandise, seriously, their selection is incredible.

- 2:12.com. You won't regret it. All right, let's get
- 2:14into it. Today's Morningstar report is buzzing
- 2:16about one thing, OpenAI. Yeah, it's all about
- 2:19their massive push for computing power. The scale
- 2:23is just mind boggling. It really is. We're seeing
- 2:26a huge infrastructure building spray. So story
- 2:30number one, OpenAI is cozying up with Amazon
- 2:33Web Services. or AWS. Right, and this is a big
- 2:36deal because historically OpenAI has been almost
- 2:39exclusively tied to Microsoft Azure, wasn't it?
- 2:42Microsoft poured billions in. Exactly, that exclusivity
- 2:45seems to be over. The report details a staggering
- 2:47$38 billion deal for OpenAI to buy compute capacity
- 2:52from AWS over several years. $38 billion? With
- 2:56AWS, wow. What does that signal? Well, it's their
- 2:59first contract with AWS, the cloud market leader.
- 3:01It signals, I think, a major step towards operational
- 3:04independence. They're still using Azure. Mind
- 3:06you, Microsoft has a massive $250 billion service
- 3:09line open for them. Okay, so not abandoning Microsoft,
- 3:12but hedging their bets. Diversifying. Precisely.
- 3:14It shows operational maturity. They'll start
- 3:15running workloads on AWS immediately using hundreds
- 3:18of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs that AWS is providing
- 3:21as completely separate capacity. Interesting
- 3:24phrasing. It is. And, you know, CEO Sam Altman
- 3:27and CFO Sarah Fryer have hinted about a possible
- 3:30IPO. This kind of move securing independent infrastructure
- 3:34certainly looks like prep for that, demonstrating
- 3:36they aren't reliant on just one provider. Makes
- 3:39sense. But isn't it a bit awkward? I mean, AWS
- 3:42has invested billions in Anthropic, OpenAI's
- 3:45big rival. That's the really interesting nuance.
- 3:47Yes, they have. But this deal is huge for Amazon's
- 3:51AWS growth, especially while Microsoft and Google
- 3:54are showing faster cloud expansion rates overall.
- 3:57It seems the demand for AI compute is so intense
- 3:59right now, it trumps even those existing competitive
- 4:02ties. Capacity is king. Capacity is king. OK,
- 4:05that leads perfectly into our second story. The
- 4:07chip wars are heating up. OpenAI isn't just diversifying
- 4:10clouds, they're diversifying chip suppliers too,
- 4:13right? With AMD. Oh yeah, big time. OpenAI announced
- 4:15a massive partnership with AMD. We're talking
- 4:17over 95 billion dollars. 95 billion? Good grief.
- 4:21What are they getting for that? They're securing
- 4:23six gigawatts of computing power over several
- 4:25years. This is a huge boost for AMD, which, let's
- 4:30be honest, has been trailing way behind NVIDIA
- 4:32in the AI GPU market. NVIDIA has, like, 90 %
- 4:37market share. Still! Wow, so AMD must be thrilled.
- 4:41Absolutely. OpenAI will be using AMD's upcoming
- 4:43Instinct MI450 chips, which aren't even due until
- 4:46the second half of 2026. So they're logging this
- 4:49in well in advance. And there's more to it than
- 4:51just buying chips, isn't there? Something about
- 4:53stock? Right. This is key. OpenAI secured a warrant,
- 4:57basically, an option to buy up to 10 % of AMD's
- 5:00common stock. That's around 160 million shares.
- 5:03Whoa. Yeah. And crucially, their ability to actually
- 5:06buy those shares depends on hitting certain targets,
- 5:08deployment targets for that compute power and
- 5:10AMD share price targets. So OpenAI basically
- 5:13gets the stake in AMD's success if they successfully
- 5:16use AMD's chips at scale. Exactly. It ties their
- 5:18fates together. No wonder AMD shares jumped,
- 5:20what, almost 25 % on the news? Yeah, nearly 25%.
- 5:23Crazy. But let's be clear, this isn't about replacing
- 5:25NVIDIA, is it? They still have that massive $100
- 5:28billion deal with NVIDIA. No, definitely not
- 5:31replacing them. Every analyst perspective we
- 5:33saw basically says the whole AI world is just
- 5:35desperate for more compute. This is about survival
- 5:38and growth. They need chips from... Everyone.
- 5:40It highlights the urgent need for a multi -vendor
- 5:43supply chain because the demand is just outstripping
- 5:45supply. Desperate for compute. That really sets
- 5:48the stage for our third story, which tries to
- 5:50quantify this desperation in terms of, well,
- 5:53actual power. Yeah, the sheer scale. If you add
- 5:56up the AMD deal 6 gigawatts plus the existing
- 5:59Nvidia stuff, plus another new partnership with
- 6:02Broadcom for custom chips, OpenAI is locking
- 6:05in compute resources, twirling at least 10 gigawatts,
- 6:0810 GW. OK, wait. 10 gigawatts. Help me understand
- 6:10that number. What does that actually mean? Hard
- 6:12to grasp. 10 gigawatts is enough electricity
- 6:14to power a large city. Or, put another way, about
- 6:188 million average US households. 8 million homes
- 6:21just for OpenAI's operations. That's the trajectory.
- 6:24We're talking about AI becoming a massive consumer
- 6:28of national energy resources. It's almost a geopolitical
- 6:31factor at this point. That's staggering. Why
- 6:33such an exponential leap? Is it just inefficient
- 6:35models or what? It's largely driven by the increasing
- 6:39complexity of the AI models themselves. You know,
- 6:43chat GPT now has something like 800 million weekly
- 6:45users, which is huge. But the next generation,
- 6:48things like Sora 2 for video generation, generating
- 6:52realistic video is orders of magnitude more power
- 6:55intensive than just processing text queries.
- 6:57And these newer models are apparently growing
- 6:59even faster in usage. So more users doing much
- 7:02more complex tasks, that requires way more power.
- 7:06Exactly. And this brings up those broader concerns
- 7:08you hear about AI's environmental footprint.
- 7:11The data center is needed for all this. Projections
- 7:14show they could consume up to 12 % of total U
- 7:16.S. electricity by 2028. 12 % up from what, about
- 7:204 .4 % in 2023? That's right. It's a huge jump.
- 7:22And it explains why OpenAI is also doing deals
- 7:25like the one with Brycom. They're trying to create
- 7:26custom chips, specialized hardware. To be more
- 7:29efficient. Partly, yes. To embed their model
- 7:31knowledge directly into the silicon optimized
- 7:34performance. But it's also, you know, maybe a
- 7:36scramble to manage this colossal energy demand
- 7:39before the power grid itself becomes the limiting
- 7:41factor. A race against the grid. Wow. Okay, that
- 7:44is a lot to process. Before we wrap up, let's
- 7:47quickly thank another one of our sponsors. Absolutely.
- 7:49We also want to thank Skoni. Yes, Skoni. That's
- 7:52S -K -O -N -I. They make premium golf shoes.
- 7:54If you're a golfer or no one, you should definitely
- 7:57check out their gear. Really top quality stuff.
- 7:59And just like with Old Glory, you get a great
- 8:01deal using our code. Use promo code SNARFUL,

- 8:07your entire purchase. Find them at skoni .com.
- 8:10That's S -K -O -N -I dot dot com. Okay, so let's
- 8:14quickly recap the big takeaways from today's
- 8:15report on OpenAI's compute frenzy. Let's do it.
- 8:18First, that huge $38 billion AWS steal. It shows
- 8:21OpenAI diversifying away from just Microsoft
- 8:24Azure, signaling operational maturity, and maybe
- 8:27paving the way for an IPO. Right. Independence
- 8:30is key there. Second, the massive $95 billion
- 8:33AMD partnership, complete with that stock warrant.
- 8:37It's not about replacing Nvidia, but highlights
- 8:39just how desperate the entire field is for more
- 8:42chip suppliers. And finally, the sheer scale
- 8:45of power needed. We're talking 10 gigawatts,
- 8:48enough for a city or 8 million homes, driven
- 8:51by models like Sora 2. This raises huge questions
- 8:54about energy consumption and the environment,
- 8:56pushing companies towards custom hardware solutions.
- 8:59So if one company needs the power of 8 million
- 9:02homes just for its AI, maybe the biggest question
- 9:05isn't just who builds the best AI, but how we're
- 9:08possibly going to power it all without everything
- 9:10else going dark. Something to chew on. Definitely
- 9:12food for thought. We're here to help at Snarful,
