- 1:12Speaker 1: She attended the University of Georgia, where she played volleyball
- 1:15Speaker 1: and basketball. And she's going to become what I consider
- 1:18Speaker 1: the next big TV star. I'm gonna tell you right now,
- 1:20Speaker 1: big star. Three years I think three years ago, I'm
- 1:25Speaker 1: watching TV, late night TV. I think Pack ten basketball
- 1:29Speaker 1: and I see this young lady and I go. While
- 1:32Speaker 1: I was with my wife the right my wife was,
- 1:35Speaker 1: I said, young leader at there's talented, she said, But
- 1:38Speaker 1: I said something. She's she's gifted. She's Her ability to
- 1:41Speaker 1: articulate own the spot was something that fascinated me. She's
- 1:46Speaker 1: in her sixth season as an analyst, hosted reporter for
- 1:48Speaker 1: ESPN and served as a commentator for the college football
- 1:52Speaker 1: playoff same in final and National Championships games. In Seen,
- 1:58Speaker 1: she became the first African American woman to co host
- 2:00Speaker 1: college game. They built by the Home Depot that's the
- 2:03Speaker 1: largest UH college fans show on television. Previously, she served
- 2:09Speaker 1: as the first female host of the SEC Network traveling
- 2:12Speaker 1: college football show The SEC Nation, alongside my man, Tim Tebow,
- 2:17Speaker 1: Marcus Spills and Paul Five. On that show right there,
- 2:21Speaker 1: when she hosted that show, that was the best sports
- 2:23Speaker 1: show television. I told her that to her face. You
- 2:26Speaker 1: can see her on ESPN. Get up. I'd like to say,
- 2:30Speaker 1: change the culture of that TV show where she when
- 2:32Speaker 1: they started putting on there. Please, I'm gonna just stop
- 2:34Speaker 1: bragging on her. Please welcome the money made conversation, Maria Taylor.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Thank you so much for having me. I'm literally over
- 2:41Speaker 1: here blessing, like have I done all those things? Are
- 2:43Speaker 1: you sure you're talking about the right person? Yes, I am.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Um Maria, you just tell me the journey to get here.
- 2:50Speaker 1: You know I know that, Uh you know your your
- 2:52Speaker 1: local because the show broadcast in Atlanta and you're from Afrida.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Went to Georgia volleyball basketball? How did a whole was was? What?
- 3:01Speaker 1: What was your degree playing in? Well? I really started
- 3:05Speaker 1: out when I got to Georgia thinking that I was
- 3:07Speaker 1: going to be some kind of team doctor one day,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and then I took biology and realized that's not a
- 3:11Speaker 1: good idea because that's not my strength at all. So um,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you know, a couple of majors later went through the
- 3:17Speaker 1: business cycle and did the accounting class. I got to
- 3:19Speaker 1: broadcast journalism and thought to myself, like, this is really
- 3:22Speaker 1: what I want to do. I love talking to people,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I love uh, interviewing people, just asking a bunch of
- 3:26Speaker 1: questions and that would be the perfect sist for me.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And luckily the University of Georgia has a great journalism
- 3:31Speaker 1: school and Grady Yeah, so I was able to my
- 3:33Speaker 1: senior year, We're putting on whole newscast. So I have
- 3:36Speaker 1: a resume tape by the time I graduate. And then
- 3:39Speaker 1: at the time, you know, Damon Evans was the athletics
- 3:41Speaker 1: director at Georgia, and you do, my plans, my goals,
- 3:44Speaker 1: my dreams were eventually working for ESPN, and he helped
- 3:46Speaker 1: me get my first job out of the gates at
- 3:48Speaker 1: Georgia working for Georgia Dogs dot com. So I was
- 3:50Speaker 1: just like the reporter of our website. And I also
- 3:53Speaker 1: did radio for volleyball and women's basketball. So so if
- 3:57Speaker 1: that's why I always tell people to imports of relationship,
- 4:00Speaker 1: that's a relationship. They gave you a really first option.
- 4:03Speaker 1: But also when I see you on television. What is what?
- 4:06Speaker 1: What do you what do you consider your number one
- 4:08Speaker 1: skill set? Is it preparation or is it the ability
- 4:11Speaker 1: to think on the spot? Because when you're walking up
- 4:14Speaker 1: to the coaches, sometimes they're happy. Sometimes I'm talking about
- 4:18Speaker 1: you know she She's on the sideline with some of
- 4:19Speaker 1: the biggest coaches in the game, and so not all
- 4:22Speaker 1: of them. They they're just doing it because it's pretty
- 4:25Speaker 1: much mandatory. They got to do the interview. So getting
- 4:28Speaker 1: that information out and being articulated after a loss, after
- 4:32Speaker 1: a victory, sometimes people are pulling on you, knocking you
- 4:35Speaker 1: out the way. They don't care you Maria daily getting
- 4:37Speaker 1: close to So how do you manage all How do
- 4:40Speaker 1: you manage all that? Um? I think it's one of
- 4:43Speaker 1: the keys that I actually learned in volleyball. It's called
- 4:45Speaker 1: reading and reacting. So, um, you almost have to read
- 4:48Speaker 1: what's going on in the game. You have to read
- 4:50Speaker 1: the coaches space when he comes over, you have to
- 4:52Speaker 1: read the tone that he's taking with you. You kind
- 4:55Speaker 1: of have to know if you don't be going to
- 4:56Speaker 1: give you one question or if he's gonna give you too,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and then you react to him if he says something
- 5:01Speaker 1: that's completely crazy that you didn't think that he was
- 5:03Speaker 1: gonna say by having a follow up question, you know
- 5:06Speaker 1: what I mean, if you just ask, if you have
- 5:08Speaker 1: two questions package, then you're gonna look a little bit
- 5:11Speaker 1: like you don't listen to him at all on camera,
- 5:13Speaker 1: if you don't respond to what he just said. So
- 5:16Speaker 1: you have to be able to react. I think those
- 5:17Speaker 1: are two of the biggest criteria to becoming a sideline
- 5:21Speaker 1: reporter or you know, just getting really good at your craft.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Is that ability to kind of go with the flow,
- 5:26Speaker 1: to listen, to change lanes quickly, um and adjust to
- 5:29Speaker 1: what's going on around you in the circumstances that you
- 5:31Speaker 1: can place that you know. The really thing about I'm
- 5:33Speaker 1: talking to Maria Taylor. She's a host, report and analyst
- 5:36Speaker 1: for ESPN covering college basketball, college football, and more. The
- 5:40Speaker 1: thing I like about your career so far is that
- 5:43Speaker 1: I I you know, I mcgonald discovered you on ESPN
- 5:46Speaker 1: doing college basketball. Now you over here college football, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 1: which means that you you know, you're diversifying your platform
- 5:54Speaker 1: multiple streets of income and so yeah, you know that's
- 5:57Speaker 1: important because people can pigeonhold you and say, you know
- 6:00Speaker 1: he's over there. How are you able to make that transition?
- 6:04Speaker 1: How what what? What? What depth moved it were you
- 6:06Speaker 1: able to pull off to be able to do that well.
- 6:09Speaker 1: One of my biggest goals when I started my career
- 6:11Speaker 1: was to make sure that that word pigeonhole never applied
- 6:14Speaker 1: to me. So whether that was I wanted to grow
- 6:17Speaker 1: skill sets as a host um, that was something that
- 6:20Speaker 1: I would I would really go after. I wanted to
- 6:22Speaker 1: everyone to feel like if they needed someone to be
- 6:24Speaker 1: an analyst for basketball and volleyball, I could do that,
- 6:27Speaker 1: or if you need a reporter, I could do that.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And of course, in order to do all those things,
- 6:31Speaker 1: you have to be able to work in multiple sports.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Otherwise you'll only work for say, four months out of
- 6:36Speaker 1: the year. And I didn't want that. I wanted a
- 6:38Speaker 1: full time and everyone wants that. Somebody was great coming
- 6:43Speaker 1: out of school. Because Comcast Sports South, you know Atlanta,
- 6:46Speaker 1: they used to be around CSS, they were the high
- 6:48Speaker 1: school sports. I was able to do some football games
- 6:51Speaker 1: for them and it kind of translated into doing the
- 6:53Speaker 1: SEC game of the week for CSS as well, and
- 6:56Speaker 1: so that's how I got into the football lane. But
- 6:59Speaker 1: it all started with being just good at basketball and
- 7:01Speaker 1: volleyball for them first, that's really awesome. And so now
- 7:05Speaker 1: you're sitting on I see a regularly and get up,
- 7:08Speaker 1: which is even even another stratosphere, and you you get
- 7:12Speaker 1: the report, you get to have your opinion, you get
- 7:14Speaker 1: to how has that that, that transition to that platform
- 7:19Speaker 1: changed your perspective. Yeah, I think it's changed the game
- 7:23Speaker 1: in a lot of ways for me because you kind
- 7:25Speaker 1: of get seen in the same lane after a while.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So you know, being the reporter or on college game
- 7:32Speaker 1: that you have a certain role. Being on the sidelines,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you know, you have a very particular role, and it's
- 7:37Speaker 1: reporting and a lot of your hits are only for
- 7:38Speaker 1: a thirty second. Meanwhile, when you do get up, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: you might do the highlight read with Jalen, and then
- 7:44Speaker 1: you have to have a conversation about the Lakers, and
- 7:46Speaker 1: then you need to go over and help them with
- 7:47Speaker 1: Dan or Laski doing a touch screen and now all
- 7:49Speaker 1: of a sudden, you know you're talking about what the
- 7:51Speaker 1: Jets need next. And so I think it's not only
- 7:54Speaker 1: does it helping me, I mean every day I seriously
- 7:56Speaker 1: learned something to do and feel like I'm getting better
- 7:58Speaker 1: at my craft. But it also possit positions you from
- 8:01Speaker 1: a broader scheme, whether that's the higher ups realizing, oh,
- 8:04Speaker 1: Maria's like a real host to like she could sit
- 8:06Speaker 1: in that chair um and lead a conversation and be
- 8:09Speaker 1: the conductor on a show. I think for my career
- 8:12Speaker 1: it's been an awesome opportunity to just kind of flex
- 8:15Speaker 1: some different muscles. I'm getting really just like you get
- 8:17Speaker 1: really strong with your close or whatever. But if you're
- 8:19Speaker 1: not working on your cats, your legs don't look crazy.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And so I have been working a really hard just
- 8:23Speaker 1: one Internet. You don't want the legs, yeah, you know,
- 8:26Speaker 1: you don't want to be looking You're looking at you
- 8:27Speaker 1: like she I mean she looks strong on top of
- 8:29Speaker 1: she's the legs they're like little too thick getting balanced.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Now as a broadcaster, well you know that's why I
- 8:35Speaker 1: love about you, know how you You know, I'm just
- 8:38Speaker 1: a fan of watching you be you because you know
- 8:43Speaker 1: the college basketball to college football and get up allows
- 8:46Speaker 1: you to talk about everything not baseball is about the camp,
- 8:50Speaker 1: you know, and then professional football and so you because
- 8:54Speaker 1: you're your your your voice allows you to to but
- 8:58Speaker 1: you but I hope you on staying. What I'm saying
- 9:00Speaker 1: is that you are really cultivating at three sixty, I
- 9:04Speaker 1: think that you've dreamed about in your career. Well, it's
- 9:08Speaker 1: funny because when I set out, you know, I used
- 9:09Speaker 1: to always say, you just I want to be a
- 9:11Speaker 1: reporter on ESPN. And then there was a point I
- 9:13Speaker 1: think it was twelve, and I got the job. I said, Okay,
- 9:15Speaker 1: it's time to adjust these goals, like what do you
- 9:16Speaker 1: really want to do? Like what is the highest dream
- 9:19Speaker 1: that you could possibly have? And I remember rob and
- 9:21Speaker 1: Roberts says, and I've read her books like nine times.
- 9:24Speaker 1: So there's a kid listening read from the heart Eight
- 9:27Speaker 1: Rules to Live By. She has two of them. The
- 9:28Speaker 1: seven Rules to Live By was before she got cancers.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Then she wrote eight Rules to Live By. But she
- 9:32Speaker 1: always said, dream big, but focus really small. But my
- 9:35Speaker 1: big dream is being on Good Morning America. Then, like,
- 9:38Speaker 1: what are the skill sets that I need to get there?
- 9:40Speaker 1: And who needs to believe in me? And who do
- 9:42Speaker 1: I need to impress? And you know what do I
- 9:44Speaker 1: need to have entertainment in my background? Do I need
- 9:45Speaker 1: to have a little bit of news? So all of
- 9:47Speaker 1: that stuff is what I'm kind of trying to line
- 9:49Speaker 1: up if my ultimate goal is maybe doing a big
- 9:52Speaker 1: morning show or something like that, which is what my
- 9:54Speaker 1: goal kind of changed to once I got to ESPN.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah you big time there, Okay
- 10:00Speaker 1: is the only amount of time. And I hope you
- 10:02Speaker 1: take these these compliments I'm giving you real because they're
- 10:06Speaker 1: coming from a professional I and and when I'm looking
- 10:09Speaker 1: at you, and I'm looking at the age, I'm looking
- 10:12Speaker 1: at the You're you're carrying a generation with you. You
- 10:15Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. It's like you're you're developing a
- 10:17Speaker 1: fan base that ten years from now, we'll care will
- 10:21Speaker 1: be with you. And that's how you look at when
- 10:22Speaker 1: you look at talent. You look at a twenty year
- 10:24Speaker 1: window with talent, you say, what do they what are
- 10:27Speaker 1: they gonna be in ten years? Okay, they steal it
- 10:29Speaker 1: in that that that precious demo. So you're still being
- 10:32Speaker 1: a precious demo that everybody wants. And then twenty years
- 10:36Speaker 1: now you pretty much gonna be in that precious demo
- 10:39Speaker 1: that everybody wants. And so so you have to say
- 10:42Speaker 1: that you have at least a twenty year career of
- 10:44Speaker 1: being able to be relevant, Miss Taylor and that's important
- 10:48Speaker 1: that you keep doing what you're doing. You keep you
- 10:50Speaker 1: keep building these these these blocks of successful you and
- 10:54Speaker 1: and and and and don't let anybody tell you. I
- 10:57Speaker 1: know they haven't told you you can't do anything because
- 10:59Speaker 1: you've been doing what you want to do? What what drive?
- 11:03Speaker 1: Where did that drive come from inside you? Because I know,
- 11:06Speaker 1: let's let's be real, You're you're attractive person. And so
- 11:09Speaker 1: some people can say, oh, she just attractive, okay, but
- 11:13Speaker 1: you have so much substance tied to that, so much
- 11:15Speaker 1: fact tied to that, so much articulation tied to that.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Sometimes I just look at you. I'm just all the
- 11:21Speaker 1: certain people know, Stephen, the sweep awes me. You know,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you put me in all because of the fact. The
- 11:27Speaker 1: ability to articulate on the spot and listen to the
- 11:31Speaker 1: situation and then come back with a with a with
- 11:33Speaker 1: a with a sincere response is a skill set. It's
- 11:37Speaker 1: God's gift, you know that. Yeah, I mean I think
- 11:40Speaker 1: the drive for the most part, I always go back
- 11:42Speaker 1: to just I mean, I've been a perfectionist my whole life,
- 11:44Speaker 1: from the point where if I couldn't put together something
- 11:47Speaker 1: like a toy when I was little, I was crying,
- 11:49Speaker 1: like I was always getting yelled at by my parents,
- 11:51Speaker 1: like why are you? What are you crying for? Like
- 11:53Speaker 1: you put together next time. I wanted to get right
- 11:56Speaker 1: this tide, you know. So that's always one been something
- 11:59Speaker 1: I said me and I still I mean, I pick
- 12:01Speaker 1: apart everything that I do, like I can. We can
- 12:04Speaker 1: go through a whole game and I can say yeah,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but I remember when I should have said then, and
- 12:07Speaker 1: I said and and said or there was one thing
- 12:09Speaker 1: that I really wanted to get into this report and
- 12:11Speaker 1: I didn't get it out, you know, even though I
- 12:13Speaker 1: said something else and the report might have sounded finding you,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but it's still like sub part of me. So I
- 12:17Speaker 1: think part of it is just me being like there's
- 12:20Speaker 1: I just can be so much better, like be better.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So it makes me like go to everything. I hardly
- 12:25Speaker 1: ever say no, it's something I should get better at.
- 12:26Speaker 1: But I want to have as many reps as possible,
- 12:29Speaker 1: you know. I want to work as many things as
- 12:30Speaker 1: possibly talk about relationships. I want to meet as many
- 12:33Speaker 1: coaches and players and you know, gms or whatever the
- 12:36Speaker 1: case may be as I possibly can, because that's all
- 12:39Speaker 1: a part of becoming better, you know, that's all a
- 12:40Speaker 1: part of understanding sports better, becoming a better analyst and
- 12:44Speaker 1: the host. So yeah, it's just I've been annoying since
- 12:48Speaker 1: I was a kid, annoying. Make a lot of money
- 12:53Speaker 1: and you show you go back. You want to talk
- 12:59Speaker 1: about that, And I also talking about when I saw
- 13:01Speaker 1: you interview in Kyler Murray, I went, that's a big
- 13:03Speaker 1: hight difference. And now he's gonna be the first pick
- 13:06Speaker 1: in the draft. You're amazing. We're coming back with more.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Maria Taylor. If you don't know her, believe me, write
- 13:10Speaker 1: that name down. Hi, this ra Sean McDonald. You're listening
- 13:18Speaker 1: to money making conversation on the phone. Is Maria Taylor
- 13:21Speaker 1: ESPN host? Uh? Talent extraordinaire. Uh you can don't get
- 13:25Speaker 1: up you cane on college thing that you on college batball.
- 13:28Speaker 1: We're seeing anything. You're doing it all. She's doing it all.
- 13:32Speaker 1: She's a She's from Atlanta, Georgia, went to George's and
- 13:34Speaker 1: Georgia bulldog. I shouldn't bring it up because the last
- 13:37Speaker 1: two years Alabama. I gotta bring it up Alabama. They
- 13:43Speaker 1: broke my heart two years. But you're strong, don't Maria
- 13:47Speaker 1: hanging there? Girl, hanging in there? That's all you could do.
- 13:51Speaker 1: That's all you could do. Now, let's talk about this
- 13:53Speaker 1: new schol that you're doing called Million Dollar Mile mm hmm.
- 13:58Speaker 1: It's an amazing project. I just gotta say, I'm so
- 14:00Speaker 1: excited about it. It's airing on CBS and we launched
- 14:04Speaker 1: on March seven. But probably the best part about it
- 14:07Speaker 1: is obviously that it's executive produced by Lebron James brainchild
- 14:12Speaker 1: of Lebron and Maverick Carter. Spring Hill, E and T
- 14:14Speaker 1: is their production company. And one thing I love about
- 14:17Speaker 1: what they're doing is, you know, Lebron is so much
- 14:19Speaker 1: more than just an athlete, and he's becoming, you know,
- 14:22Speaker 1: the center of culture, becoming a guy that produces what
- 14:25Speaker 1: we're talking about, you know. And so to even play
- 14:27Speaker 1: a small role in something that he's building and creating,
- 14:30Speaker 1: it's like, oh my god, I'm about to be a
- 14:31Speaker 1: part of a culture change that we're having that's lead
- 14:34Speaker 1: and spearheaded by him. So so here's this. You have
- 14:39Speaker 1: athletes stopping I'm trying to read a group of elite
- 14:43Speaker 1: athletes and one person to stop the contestants from winning
- 14:46Speaker 1: the money at all costs. What that is sounds like
- 14:54Speaker 1: those athletes you're talking about. They're called defenders. So they're
- 14:57Speaker 1: professional ostible course racers. They run things like tough mother ers, um,
- 15:01Speaker 1: you know, anything that you could imagine. That's those the
- 15:03Speaker 1: highest elite level athletes that are training around the world
- 15:06Speaker 1: and running in these races that you and I would
- 15:08Speaker 1: never be able to complete. I mean they're running under
- 15:10Speaker 1: the mud, ropes, courses, going over walls, jumping over walls
- 15:13Speaker 1: from wall to wall, and we're bringing them in to
- 15:16Speaker 1: race against people that are, you know, just an ordinary
- 15:19Speaker 1: person that works out a lot, but feels really good
- 15:21Speaker 1: about their body and where they are. And one once
- 15:22Speaker 1: the obstacle course race as well, and basically they get
- 15:25Speaker 1: a head start running the million dollar mile by the
- 15:28Speaker 1: time they complete the entire course. If they completed, they
- 15:30Speaker 1: will have run a mile, but there are obstacles that
- 15:32Speaker 1: stand in their way, and the defender is released after
- 15:35Speaker 1: the runner goes and if the defender beats you through
- 15:38Speaker 1: an obstacles, then your chance to win that million dollars
- 15:40Speaker 1: is over. So it's all about racing against time, racing
- 15:44Speaker 1: against the defender, and you're being able to see you know,
- 15:47Speaker 1: a mom from you know, Salt Lake City Racing against
- 15:51Speaker 1: one of the most elite athletes in the world, and
- 15:53Speaker 1: you're cheering her on. Obviously, because some of the people
- 15:56Speaker 1: that are racing, the runners that are in this show,
- 15:59Speaker 1: they have some credible stories, the reasons why they're running
- 16:02Speaker 1: the race, the things that they want to show to
- 16:03Speaker 1: their children, the ways that they want to use the
- 16:05Speaker 1: money is gonna be a really big draw as well
- 16:08Speaker 1: as just the fact that we have an entire obstacle
- 16:10Speaker 1: course in the middle of downtown l A. And they're
- 16:12Speaker 1: running in the middle of the night and you know,
- 16:14Speaker 1: being chased by these awesome dissenters. Okay, cool, So you're
- 16:17Speaker 1: a commentator on the show, correct, Yes, that's like there's
- 16:20Speaker 1: the play by players Money Matt Money Smith. I'm the
- 16:23Speaker 1: analyst kind of breaking down what we're seeing from the
- 16:26Speaker 1: Tim Tebow. It's like our hope. You know, Tim Tebow,
- 16:29Speaker 1: that's my man. He's awesome, he really is. He He's
- 16:32Speaker 1: just I've been a fan of it is since college
- 16:34Speaker 1: football days, and uh, he continued to do what I
- 16:37Speaker 1: love about him. He does. He lives his life, he
- 16:42Speaker 1: himself genuinely, yes, absolutely, as polarizing as he has, he
- 16:45Speaker 1: will not change for anyone and that's what's beautiful about him.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You know what you're gonna get from him, consistency. You know,
- 16:50Speaker 1: I don't know if I you know, because he lives
- 16:53Speaker 1: his life the way he wants to live. Because he
- 16:54Speaker 1: has no agenda. I don't think he's an agenda and
- 16:56Speaker 1: so and that allows me to say he's gender whin,
- 17:00Speaker 1: he's genuine and so so. And he's telling you live
- 17:04Speaker 1: your dream, take the time to pursue your dream, but
- 17:08Speaker 1: don't let nobody tell you what your dream is supposed
- 17:10Speaker 1: to be. Exactly. That's who I see a tempo And
- 17:15Speaker 1: he's like the perfect host to be on this show too,
- 17:17Speaker 1: because that's what he's basically telling all the runners that
- 17:19Speaker 1: come through. All Right, you think you can win this.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I believe in you do you believe in yourself, Like,
- 17:23Speaker 1: don't change anything that you would normally do. It's kind
- 17:26Speaker 1: of cool to see that, Like this is the guy
- 17:28Speaker 1: who's gone from football and now playing baseball and doing
- 17:30Speaker 1: really well, yes, yes, in baseball for the match. Well,
- 17:33Speaker 1: the other thing about it is like people keep telling
- 17:35Speaker 1: them there, you know, you can't play professional football. You can't,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you can't play baseball. You're too old to try to
- 17:42Speaker 1: play baseball. Okay, again, I would tell people stop letting
- 17:46Speaker 1: age stop you from playing your success. So that's a
- 17:49Speaker 1: that's a Martrey and Me. I tell people all the
- 17:51Speaker 1: time because so many people stop trying to be something
- 17:54Speaker 1: when they hit a certain nage. I can't do that.
- 17:57Speaker 1: It's called and that's what I like about you. If
- 17:59Speaker 1: they do, you give max effort because of the fact
- 18:02Speaker 1: that you know on the weekend you hear at College
- 18:06Speaker 1: Dame the game day you you got to cover because
- 18:09Speaker 1: sometimes you guys are in a different city. When you're
- 18:12Speaker 1: doing college game Day, you have to fly to cover
- 18:15Speaker 1: a game in a different city. Correct, Yeah, that's all true.
- 18:19Speaker 1: There's been a time we did game day from Washington
- 18:21Speaker 1: State and then we flew to Perdue. They were taken
- 18:24Speaker 1: on Ohio statement and up being that upset game. But yeah,
- 18:27Speaker 1: there's a lot of times when we just don't have
- 18:29Speaker 1: the game. CBS or say Fox has the game. But
- 18:31Speaker 1: it is the biggest game in college football. Of course
- 18:33Speaker 1: game they have to be there. But Kirk Curve Street
- 18:35Speaker 1: the Bear and I have to hop on a playing
- 18:37Speaker 1: immediately after the show. And I know that's right. Now,
- 18:43Speaker 1: Here's here's the fun part about your your career, Like
- 18:46Speaker 1: I saw so use that I graduated from the University
- 18:49Speaker 1: Houston and I just happened to turn on TV that
- 18:52Speaker 1: you're covering my team when they lost. Yep. That yeah,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I would blame game day if I were you, I
- 18:59Speaker 1: want lay game day for I will play game day
- 19:01Speaker 1: for you. And I'm just saying that that that's the
- 19:04Speaker 1: when I tell people that this is a phase. Remember
- 19:07Speaker 1: this phase. She's everywhere, but she's she's everywhere in a
- 19:10Speaker 1: good way. The quality so runs welcomes through, like how
- 19:14Speaker 1: do you arrive at the venue and then how do
- 19:17Speaker 1: you prepare for a game or whether it's basketball or football,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and then how do you wrap up your day? Sure?
- 19:24Speaker 1: I mean I'm actually sitting at Arena right now, um,
- 19:27Speaker 1: because I have the a CEC Men's basketball tournament, and
- 19:30Speaker 1: I was flying in from Bristol, Connecticut because I was
- 19:32Speaker 1: in the studio last night hosting the woman's basketball rats
- 19:35Speaker 1: because it was all the championship games, you know, a
- 19:37Speaker 1: c C, Bayton sec um. So the biggest thing for
- 19:42Speaker 1: me is whenever whatever the project is that I'm currently
- 19:44Speaker 1: working on, that will dominate my mind, that dominates, you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: my workload. So I know that for the next three
- 19:51Speaker 1: days because I'm here until Thursday. It's all about a
- 19:53Speaker 1: CC men's basketball for the most part, and as soon
- 19:56Speaker 1: as I'm finished with it, then that's when my mindset
- 19:58Speaker 1: will change to uh into double a woman's basketball selection
- 20:02Speaker 1: show because that's the next big show that I work
- 20:03Speaker 1: on and the whole tournament, so that it's almost like
- 20:06Speaker 1: you have the silo. Otherwise otherwise I'm just gonna be
- 20:08Speaker 1: sewing buckshots at the wall and like, Okay, I think
- 20:10Speaker 1: I should work on this for a little bit into
- 20:11Speaker 1: that and this is that. Um but during the week,
- 20:14Speaker 1: during football weeks, I'm always getting players on the phone
- 20:17Speaker 1: so that I'm I'm basically run by their schedule. Their
- 20:20Speaker 1: schedule will dictate when I'm studying for college football, and
- 20:23Speaker 1: then I'm either on get Up or on a show
- 20:25Speaker 1: or traveling the rest of the time. And that that's
- 20:27Speaker 1: important to understand that that there your role. And so
- 20:31Speaker 1: when does fatigue when you when you start pushing past fatigue,
- 20:36Speaker 1: this is this moment march madness is when I'm like, Okay,
- 20:40Speaker 1: I think I'm about to think and it's a lot
- 20:43Speaker 1: of it is because it's comes straight off of you know,
- 20:44Speaker 1: I do the National Championship in football on Monday. That Saturday,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I was at U m cm are playing Louisville for basketball.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So my football season leads right into basketball, and then
- 20:54Speaker 1: by the time I get to March and tournament time,
- 20:56Speaker 1: I'm so happy to pull back out of men. So
- 20:59Speaker 1: after I'm here on Thursday, then my soul focus is
- 21:02Speaker 1: the woman's basketball tournament, and I do believe on that
- 21:05Speaker 1: my best. When I get to focus on one thing,
- 21:06Speaker 1: it's just not possible. If you want a job that like,
- 21:09Speaker 1: like we've been talking about, you know, you're gonna have
- 21:11Speaker 1: longevity and you have to be good at several different things. Um,
- 21:14Speaker 1: but I'm about to get to my parting point of
- 21:16Speaker 1: my season where I get to pull back a little
- 21:18Speaker 1: bit focus on one thing and I feel a little
- 21:20Speaker 1: bit better. Well, you know, it's a good thing about
- 21:22Speaker 1: it that I enjoyed this seasonal college game day is
- 21:26Speaker 1: that you look like a college student. And that's important
- 21:30Speaker 1: because it was so fun watching you walk around interview
- 21:34Speaker 1: in these college athletes you know, and you look about
- 21:38Speaker 1: their age, and to me it felt original. When I
- 21:42Speaker 1: tell them when I graduated, They're like what, I'm like, yes, guys,
- 21:48Speaker 1: And I think that's a that's important from from a
- 21:52Speaker 1: from a visual standpoint, from a standpoint of watching you
- 21:55Speaker 1: walk around, because the thing about it is that you
- 21:58Speaker 1: have that that college age mentality, which is a good thing.
- 22:02Speaker 1: You you walk, you talk, your dress and all that
- 22:06Speaker 1: is important in building your brain. That's why I'm just
- 22:08Speaker 1: telling you is that it's important that I know you're
- 22:10Speaker 1: not going to change, but don't change because of the
- 22:13Speaker 1: fact that that you are writing a very unique course
- 22:16Speaker 1: and a very unique opportunity to be successful. You're you're
- 22:20Speaker 1: You're a tireless worker. You do your homework, your star
- 22:24Speaker 1: and before we leave, just rest wrappers up one more time.
- 22:27Speaker 1: On March twenty seven on CBS, you'll be one of
- 22:30Speaker 1: the commentators along with my Man Matt Money's Money Money
- 22:34Speaker 1: Smith Uh, hosted by Tim Tevo is called The Million
- 22:38Speaker 1: Dollar Mile and tell us again what the show is
- 22:41Speaker 1: all about. It's all about a runner pushing himself to
- 22:46Speaker 1: the very very end of what they feel like their
- 22:48Speaker 1: body can handle, all while racing against you know, professional athletes.
- 22:52Speaker 1: So if you've ever been that person that's at at
- 22:53Speaker 1: home and said, oh I could do for you, you're
- 23:00Speaker 1: gonna see what everyday people look like when they go
- 23:02Speaker 1: against the pros. Well, I'm gonna tell you something, these
- 23:04Speaker 1: people still don't look like every day, everyday people, everyday people.
- 23:09Speaker 1: If they ever do a show like Hold On, Hold
- 23:14Speaker 1: Take I'm still I'm still regular though. I'll tell you
- 23:17Speaker 1: I got that. You will give me a lead. I
- 23:20Speaker 1: swear to you. They're gonna catch me. They're gonna catch me.
- 23:24Speaker 1: If you really two minutes, they'll give you five. If
- 23:32Speaker 1: they can still see me, they're gonna catch me. But
- 23:37Speaker 1: I want to thank you for coming on the show.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Maria again, a big fan. Keep doing what you're doing. Um,
- 23:42Speaker 1: this show is just one of minute shows you're gonna
- 23:44Speaker 1: do in your future. Again, Ladies and gentlemen, you can
- 23:47Speaker 1: catch her. She tells you. The schedules incredible. You can
- 23:50Speaker 1: catch it. When she's not on the road, She's gonna
- 23:52Speaker 1: be on Get Up. That's every morning on ESPN. The
- 23:55Speaker 1: new show UM Million Dollar Mile of premiers mar twenty seven.
- 24:01Speaker 1: That's a Whinsdy on CBS is ten episodes, high stakes,
- 24:04Speaker 1: high competition. And remember this, lady and gym Maria do
- 24:08Speaker 1: not change. Okay, stop telling the girl. I'm gonna let
- 24:14Speaker 1: them just for you. I'm never going past and walk
- 24:20Speaker 1: off right. Thank you, Thank you. I appreciate you, and
- 24:23Speaker 1: thanks for calling me from you from the arena. Thank you,
- 24:27Speaker 1: and I appreciate your time and everything that you've done
- 24:29Speaker 1: for me and the way that you're just speaking life
- 24:31Speaker 1: in me. It means a lot. I know that you're
