- 0:10That B-Side thing.
- 0:11This is the B-Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:20Ready if you are.
- 0:22Yeah, ready.
- 0:23Cool.
- 0:24Let me do this.
- 0:26Popping one open to toast to the end of 2024.
- 0:30Boxing B-Sides.
- 0:33It's a little hair of the dog for me.
- 0:34It's a little bit of a late night.
- 0:37But we're here and we made it.
- 0:40Oh, Shannata, how are you doing?
- 0:41It's we're coming up on it.
- 0:43Coming up to In-A-Way time.
- 0:45Yeah.
- 0:46Yeah, I'm good.
- 0:47A little disappointed in the Ioka fight getting changed,
- 0:51which I assume we'll talk about later.
- 0:53Yeah, that sucks.
- 0:55I was really looking forward to that.
- 0:57Yeah, I was too.
- 0:58I got excited and rewatched the first fight and scored it.
- 1:01And a lot more lopsided on the broadcast
- 1:05than I remember it feeling in real life.
- 1:07Yeah, oh my god.
- 1:08The broadcast was horrible.
- 1:10I could I didn't understand a whole lot of it,
- 1:12but just what I could pick up.
- 1:15Holy shit.
- 1:17You're hey, you are latching onto a foreigner just to shit
- 1:22on a guy from Osaka with tattoos.
- 1:23It's what are you?
- 1:25What's even happening right now?
- 1:26Yeah, yeah.
- 1:28Poopoo, but c'est la vie, I suppose.
- 1:31That's the life of an Osaka thug.
- 1:35Yeah.
- 1:36All right, 805, Firestone Walker,
- 1:39whenever you want to get a sponsorship going,
- 1:42you let me know.
- 1:43All right, 2024 picks.
- 1:45It's just you and me, so let's we can,
- 1:47I think we're gonna be able to breathe through these
- 1:49kind of quickly.
- 1:50First category, starting off,
- 1:53I picked up quite a few, like at least two
- 1:56for every category.
- 1:58So for stoppage of the year,
- 2:00my all of my options,
- 2:04Angela Leo beating Luis Lopez to win the title,
- 2:08the IBF 126,
- 2:10Daniel Dubois stopping AJ,
- 2:13Tank beating Frank Martin and Jang beating Wilder.
- 2:17All of them have different,
- 2:20the gravity of them or the magnitude of them is different.
- 2:23But like Dubois beating AJ, that's fucking huge.
- 2:27And same with Jang, just like ending Wilder.
- 2:31That also made me really sad.
- 2:33Yeah, stoppage of the year.
- 2:35So this is KO of the year as well, right?
- 2:38KO, TKO, I don't think submissions happen,
- 2:42but if there is one, go for it.
- 2:44Whitaker gets submission of the year on himself.
- 2:48Yeah, oh shit, I forgot about him.
- 2:51Yeah.
- 2:51For straight up knockout of the year,
- 2:55I have trouble remembering his name,
- 2:57that knocked out Noriega.
- 2:59I remember what you're talking about.
- 3:01Jairo Noriega knocked out by Shokichi Iwata.
- 3:07Ah, yes, Iwata.
- 3:10Or who was the guy who just turned the guy off?
- 3:15Body. Oh, these are yours.
- 3:17Stopping Ashton Silph.
- 3:19Yes, that was the one I was trying to think of.
- 3:22Yeah, that was a fucking, that was a good one.
- 3:27So those two would be my knockouts of the year.
- 3:30The Iwata one was just so unexpected
- 3:33and I was there live and man,
- 3:36Noriega didn't move for a little while, I was worried.
- 3:40Yeah, it was a bad one.
- 3:42Definitely was out of nowhere.
- 3:43Like Noriega was competitive,
- 3:45made it all the more thrilling.
- 3:48I'm not sure which one to take.
- 3:50I'm gonna go with the Jang stopping Wilder
- 3:56because that one hurt my soul
- 3:59in addition to shaking up the division.
- 4:02The tank stopping Frank Martin.
- 4:05I like that one a lot
- 4:06because it's the same situation that always happens.
- 4:09Everybody comes into Discord to shit on tank
- 4:12and then it happens every time.
- 4:15Rounds six to whatever, he's going to knock the guy out.
- 4:20It happens every time.
- 4:22Yeah.
- 4:23Well, and the Dubois KO of AJ was just so unexpected to me.
- 4:28It was.
- 4:29Like the way it happened was so unexpected too.
- 4:32Yeah, we had on ultimate effing casuals,
- 4:35we were saying like he has negative dog in him.
- 4:39The guy had no, seemed to have no confidence in himself
- 4:44and then he goes to stop.
- 4:46Like the poster boy of British heavyweights.
- 4:49Yeah, it was crazy.
- 4:51And the memes man, the memes of AJ face down, ass up.
- 4:56Hilarious.
- 4:57I think an honorable mention would be Itauma
- 5:01just recently on the Usyk Fury 2 card.
- 5:04That was beautiful, beautiful.
- 5:07Yeah.
- 5:08Buy the stock early, get it while you still can.
- 5:11Everybody on Discord is completely in love with him.
- 5:14Yeah, as they should be.
- 5:16If he doesn't live up to the hype,
- 5:20gonna be in shambles.
- 5:22Yep, Discord is gonna be down bad.
- 5:26What's the dude's name?
- 5:27Like McKinney, McKinson or some shit.
- 5:30I don't know, McAussie, whatever the fuck his name is.
- 5:35Master Class, I'll start this one as well.
- 5:38This is Pillar to Post outclassed.
- 5:41Typically does not end in a stoppage.
- 5:43It might, might not.
- 5:45My picks here, Jaron Ennis versus Karen.
- 5:49Damn it, I know his name.
- 5:50If I see it, I'll be able to say it,
- 5:53but I don't remember it off the top of my head.
- 5:54But I'm so bad at names.
- 5:56But he was a Shkodzian, there it is.
- 5:59He came in to prove a point
- 6:02in that he's not just some fucking scrub.
- 6:05And he made Jaron Ennis work every single minute
- 6:09of every single round.
- 6:10Even if it was a clean sweep and Jaron Ennis
- 6:12very clearly beat his ass,
- 6:15Karen did not make that shit easy.
- 6:17So I guess like a scrappy performance from Karen
- 6:22turned what should have been like a pretty,
- 6:25you'd think an easy beat down,
- 6:27turned into just a prime schooling from Ennis.
- 6:32And that prime schooling is kind of had people
- 6:36like questioning his bona fides.
- 6:39Because what is he like, oh, Ennis can't stop this guy.
- 6:44Even though he's winning every fucking round,
- 6:46every single second of the fight, he's winning.
- 6:48But it still had people questioning him.
- 6:52So that was me talking up Karen
- 6:55way more than Jaron Ennis.
- 6:58But that was still from first bell to last.
- 7:02Ennis was in complete control,
- 7:04even if he wasn't knocking the guy out.
- 7:06My second one, Ryo Valenzuela beating Isaac Cruz
- 7:12for the WBA 140.
- 7:13How is this a master class?
- 7:15You might wonder, dearest listener,
- 7:18first of all, 833-589-7637,
- 7:21tell me why you think it isn't a master class.
- 7:23But Ryo beat Pitbull at like in his comfort zone,
- 7:31in Pitbull's comfort zone.
- 7:33He was in Pitbull's face, tagging him
- 7:36and out of the way before Pitbull
- 7:37even knew what the fuck to do.
- 7:39That was a, it was fucking beautiful.
- 7:41I was so glad I got to see that live.
- 7:43That was a beautiful, beautiful performance.
- 7:46He just outboxed him so badly
- 7:49and Pitbull just looked confused.
- 7:51That's a good pick.
- 7:52Yeah, he didn't know what to do.
- 7:54Ryo is more naturally built for 140.
- 7:58Pitbull, I'm surprised he's even at that weight.
- 8:01Nick Ball can make 126, so why the fuck can't you?
- 8:04Tacos, I guess.
- 8:06Pitbull looks more like a burritos guy to me.
- 8:13And a short and stocky and well stuffed burritos.
- 8:16Don't, Pitbull, don't change your nickname to Fire hydrant.
- 8:23Don't do that.
- 8:25I forgot about that.
- 8:27OK, my picks for master class.
- 8:30I actually didn't pick any of the ones you did.
- 8:32I got Nav beating, no, wait, who did he do?
- 8:37Valdez?
- 8:38Yeah, Oscar Valdez.
- 8:42Yeah, Nav beating Valdez.
- 8:44I had that one picked for beat down.
- 8:46Oh, I forgot we do two different things.
- 8:48Yeah. I don't know.
- 8:49I still think it was a master class.
- 8:51It was, it was.
- 8:52He just made it look really easy.
- 8:54Yeah, we were saying that in the aftermath,
- 8:56that it didn't look like he was trying all that hard.
- 9:00I do not doubt for a second that he was,
- 9:03but it just didn't look like it.
- 9:04Yeah, he just made it look effortless.
- 9:06God damn it.
- 9:07My other one is a better pick for beat down of the year, though.
- 9:10So I'm not going to say it right now.
- 9:12All right. Next category, we've got villain of the year.
- 9:16This is OK. You know who my pick is.
- 9:19Fucking everybody around the Tim Zufight.
- 9:22Oh, yeah.
- 9:23The doctor, the corner, everybody, the ref.
- 9:28Fuck all those guys.
- 9:30They ruined Tim Zuh's career that night, I think.
- 9:33He is so worried about cuts now.
- 9:37Yeah, that I think that him being scared of cuts or getting cut again,
- 9:42getting cut that badly, it made him really tentative in the Mortezaliev fight,
- 9:49and that ended up getting him stopped.
- 9:51We got career. Yeah.
- 9:52Be like in serious trouble.
- 9:55And I think if they'd have called that a no contest in the second
- 9:58and got him or third or whatever it happened and got him some medical attention,
- 10:05I don't think he would have nearly as much worries about it.
- 10:10Yeah, that's a good pick.
- 10:12I didn't even have an honorable mention for that one,
- 10:15because I think that one just is so obviously the villains of the year.
- 10:19I mean, Ryan Garcia is just a piece of shit.
- 10:22But yeah, like over on the MMA show,
- 10:26like for the blanket statement was Conor McGregor, of course.
- 10:31Guy's a fucking asshole.
- 10:32But let's let's pick other stuff just because that one's too easy.
- 10:38Yeah. Well, you didn't have an honorable mention.
- 10:41Don't worry, because I have plenty.
- 10:44So Terrence Crawford beats Errol Spence in 2023.
- 10:48That's cool. That's a really huge, monumentous win.
- 10:52Then he fucks off for a year.
- 10:54He comes back to beat Maddremov and then fucks off for another year.
- 10:59You are holding up the entire fucking division because everybody's waiting to fight you
- 11:04or trying to fight you. Like, come on, dude, do something.
- 11:07I don't give a shit what you do. Just do something.
- 11:11What's another one?
- 11:12Richardson Hitchens, because fuck Richardson Hitchens.
- 11:15That's one. That's a big one.
- 11:18That's probably going to be my pick, my primary pick.
- 11:20But Lomachenko gets into negotiations with Tank.
- 11:24Like I was on the hype train.
- 11:27I was like, yeah, fuck Lomachenko.
- 11:29This is what you should be doing.
- 11:31Everyone says you're the best, like of all the new generation post Mayweather,
- 11:35Pacquiao and all that. Good. Prove it.
- 11:38You're and you're about to.
- 11:39I have faith that you can do this at whatever age you are.
- 11:43And then he just drops out of the negotiations with no real rhyme or reason as to why.
- 11:50And that is unacceptable to me.
- 11:53Well, it sounds like Loma's retiring. So.
- 11:56Yeah, it does. So if that's if he does.
- 12:00Cool. Right off into the sunset, my man, you whatever you burned it.
- 12:05You've got other shit on your plate to deal with now.
- 12:08So like best of luck and all that.
- 12:10But why even bother entertaining the tank fight?
- 12:14Why bother if you're just going to not? Yeah.
- 12:16No, I'm I'm with you. Shit or get off the pot.
- 12:19Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 12:22But I would say Hitchens is my my fun pick.
- 12:27I'm going to have to flip a coin between Lomachenko or Terrence Crawford.
- 12:32And it's weird that these are like villain picks
- 12:36just because they're like it's being a victim of your own success.
- 12:40You're so good.
- 12:41Like, I want to see you fight better people.
- 12:43Well, and this everybody fighting once a year.
- 12:47Sucks like I can understand the arguments for twice a year.
- 12:52It's hard on your body.
- 12:54It has to be and everything else.
- 12:56But once a year, like I know you're making enough money
- 13:00that you only need to fight once a year, but that's that's not enough.
- 13:04If you're not getting having injuries, injuries like grievous injuries,
- 13:08Lomachenko is having back problems as well,
- 13:11which is what was driving him into the retirement talk.
- 13:14Is that he's having lingering issues that aren't that are going away,
- 13:18but then coming back sooner and staying longer.
- 13:22So, yeah, I got I get it.
- 13:24You're getting old and all that.
- 13:25But once a year is bullshit.
- 13:28I don't I don't care who it is.
- 13:30Do not care. Once is not enough prospect or new contender
- 13:36could be either like a prospect coming into into a renown or a
- 13:42renown or a contender that's really starting to break the mold
- 13:47of just being a contender and they're getting into the title contention,
- 13:51whichever you prefer.
- 13:53Yeah, I'm actually really crap at this one
- 13:56because I never know when people stop being prospects.
- 14:01You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 14:03So I'm going to pick two absolutely brand new people
- 14:08that I saw live that really impressed me,
- 14:10which is not your point of this category.
- 14:13But I thought that Kenneth Lover on the Osaka card
- 14:19looked fucking impressive.
- 14:22He wasn't in there very long.
- 14:24He got a round one knockout, but he just looked fast and accurate
- 14:29and like well put together for.
- 14:34I think that was only his six, fifth or sixth professional fight.
- 14:39And then there's that Japanese kid.
- 14:42Pro box. Oh, yeah.
- 14:46I know you're talking about Yokoyama.
- 14:48I think is his last name. Yeah, that's right.
- 14:51He also really impressed me and I started following him on Instagram
- 14:56and he seems to spend a lot of time volunteering
- 14:59at his grandparents retirement home thing.
- 15:02That's the guy you said.
- 15:04Yeah, the videos are fucking adorable.
- 15:07So neither of them is famous at all yet.
- 15:10But I think one of them is going to do something
- 15:14in the next like two or three years.
- 15:16Lover. He's on.
- 15:19He's next up for the OPBF title, so he's on his way up.
- 15:23Yeah. And I think this was his first fight in Japan
- 15:28because he's Filipino.
- 15:31Mine was Katsuma Akitsugi.
- 15:35Akitsugi, the pro box kid.
- 15:38Yep. Pro box.
- 15:39The Japanese firework, as as they call him in L.A.
- 15:44where he where he lives. Fighter of the year.
- 15:48Easy pick. Usyk. No shit.
- 15:52The gravity of his wins this year.
- 15:55Back to back beating Fury, hopefully sending Fury into retirement.
- 15:59Please for the love of fuck.
- 16:01I hope he goes away.
- 16:03But Junto Nakatani had an amazing year.
- 16:06Naoya Inoue, it was business as usual for him.
- 16:10This is like victim of your own success.
- 16:12Situation as well is. Yeah.
- 16:15For him, if you're not bopping guys in four, four to four to eight rounds,
- 16:20then it looks like a bad performance
- 16:24when he could be completely outclassing somebody.
- 16:28He hit Dohenny so hard in the ribs
- 16:31that it like fucked up his back.
- 16:33Yeah, that's right. I forgot he did that.
- 16:38You know, it's like a bunch of people online are like, oh, no,
- 16:41had he just stepped wrong and, you know, he's old and it fucked up his back.
- 16:45I'm like, no, he got hit so hard it tweaked his back.
- 16:50But come on, guys. Yeah.
- 16:52Yeah. I mean, I would have to pick Usyk.
- 16:55I know it's the boring pick, but yeah, my for in my case,
- 17:00like the honorable mentions, those are the real picks
- 17:02because you can't not give it to Usyk.
- 17:06All things, all things being equal, Usyk has to be the one.
- 17:09But Nakatani had some awesome performances.
- 17:13So just to pick something other than Usyk, I'd go with him for sure.
- 17:19Bam beating Estrada.
- 17:22Estrada, the way he beat Estrada was really impressive.
- 17:28Yeah, I think Bam deserves an honorable mention, too.
- 17:32It was funny in the post fight conference.
- 17:35Like everybody was asking about the knockdown.
- 17:39So the like the first person that asked him, he's like, look,
- 17:42I know a lot of you are going to ask me about this.
- 17:44So let me tell you, I'm just going to say it one time so that we get it out of the way.
- 17:47I I've never been knocked down before.
- 17:50Before tonight, I was actually I was more biddly curious of how how that goes.
- 17:57What's it like? So I got a little reckless and he knocked me down.
- 18:01He didn't hurt me. But yeah, he got me.
- 18:04I went down. That's how it goes.
- 18:06And wasn't bothered by it. But I don't want to do it again.
- 18:10I like Bam a lot. He's a really fun character.
- 18:13Yeah, he seems like a good kid.
- 18:17Ass whipping.
- 18:18Pillar to post brutal beatdowns could go by stoppage doesn't necessarily have to.
- 18:24I think I have the answer to this question and it's not on your list that I can see.
- 18:29OK, it's it's Zerto versus Chris Billams.
- 18:32Oh, shit. How could I have forgotten?
- 18:35Yes, that's a that is a great one.
- 18:38I think that's the only answer to this question.
- 18:41CBS took such an ass kicking and never quit.
- 18:45Twelve rounds like he went all the way.
- 18:47I do not understand how he stayed up.
- 18:50Seriously, that was seriously the worst ass kicking
- 18:54I can remember in a long time.
- 18:56Like there's been lots of beatdowns, but just the amount of damage
- 19:01that CBS absorbed, you can say anything you want, but he is a tough man.
- 19:06Yeah, like with the the two in a way fights this year, Doheny and Neri,
- 19:11he ended up stopping them.
- 19:12He was beating them so badly that the fight ended.
- 19:15Same with Nav Valdez and Alba.
- 19:19And my other one of my other favorites was Baccholi Anderson
- 19:23because love Baccholi, dark horse of the heavyweights.
- 19:27Yeah, the Baccholi Anderson one was also an ass kicking,
- 19:30but nobody stayed in there as long as Zerto did.
- 19:36I think of all of the ones I have written down, Doheny
- 19:38went the longest at seven rounds.
- 19:41But yes, he didn't take nearly as much damage as CBS.
- 19:45Hell, no, he didn't. Yeah, that that's the pick.
- 19:48That is the only pick.
- 19:50Zerto beating beating the fuck out of CBS.
- 19:54I I was saying like at round seven, going into eight throughout eight.
- 20:00And I was very emphatic about it in round nine.
- 20:03There's no need for this to continue.
- 20:05CBS is getting the shit beaten out of him.
- 20:07And this could be like shaving time off of his career.
- 20:11There's no need for this to continue.
- 20:13I agree. His corner should have stopped it.
- 20:16Fucking right. They should have.
- 20:17Yeah, you could put them in villain of the year.
- 20:20Honorable mention to Tim Zue's fucking ragged ass corner.
- 20:25Yeah. Yeah, I mean, the Tim Zue fight could almost go
- 20:28a beat down of the year, except he was winning too much.
- 20:31Man, that cut really fucked him up.
- 20:33He was. Yeah, I'm really upset about that.
- 20:36That actually that really did change the trajectory of his career.
- 20:40We're yet to see what what's going to happen with CBS. But
- 20:43if he also goes on tilt from here, then his corner's going to get
- 20:48retroactive villain of the year for 25.
- 20:52Comeback of the year.
- 20:54I usually go with career resurgence, but mid fight also counts.
- 21:00I picked a few. Dubois beats Hergovich and AJ
- 21:05to set up a fight with Parker in 25 after that really,
- 21:09you know, questionable situation with Usyk.
- 21:12A little bit of a stinker with Gerald Miller.
- 21:14And he set up Tony 24 really nicely to go into
- 21:18what could be an undisputed fight with Usyk to rematch,
- 21:23you know, get it, try to get that that low blow back.
- 21:25Yeah, Dubois really has turned it around.
- 21:28And I think Parker's had a real resurgence.
- 21:31He has maybe more last year than this year.
- 21:34But yeah, that's what I he was going to be my pick.
- 21:37But the only thing is that the Wilder fight was it Wilder?
- 21:40I believe it was. That was at the end of 2023.
- 21:45It was no shit on the 23rd just before the cutoff.
- 21:50Still, if you if you give a give that give a Parker
- 21:55an extra two weeks on the year at the beginning of the year.
- 21:59Yeah, Parker's right up there with two big wins over two very heavy handed guys.
- 22:04And in fight comeback, Lucas body
- 22:08he was getting his fucking shit taken to school by H2O Silph
- 22:14and then just gets that clutch KO fucking.
- 22:17Yeah. Randy Orton.
- 22:19That was my pick.
- 22:20Out of nowhere with the RKO.
- 22:22I love I love those come back knockouts.
- 22:27The clutch knockouts. Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:29I actually I didn't have I didn't have a runner up for this one.
- 22:34Just Lucas body.
- 22:36Actually, what was the Angelo Leo doing before this year?
- 22:39Let's find out.
- 22:41He was on Pro Box, I believe.
- 22:43Yeah, but that that was kind of a career resurgence, right?
- 22:47Like he had gone away for a little while.
- 22:49He did. He lost to.
- 22:53Where was he at in 2021?
- 22:55He lost to Stephen Fulton.
- 22:58He got a little kind of a shaky win against questionable opposition.
- 23:02Some dude named Aaron Alameda that was in Houston.
- 23:07And that was June of 2021.
- 23:10And he disappears because of what?
- 23:13Coming off a loss and a shaky win.
- 23:15Then he comes back November of 23 on Pro Box,
- 23:19gets three fights on Pro Box.
- 23:22Awesome wins, all strong wins.
- 23:24And then he projects himself into a title that is.
- 23:28I think that's a pretty good career comeback.
- 23:31Oh, yeah, that's a good comeback right there.
- 23:33Upset of the year.
- 23:36It's plenty. There are so many this year
- 23:39to get the the fun ones out of the way.
- 23:44Devin Haney, he was very upset when he lost to Ryan Garcia.
- 23:49So that's a very big upset.
- 23:51He was also a massive betting favorite, too.
- 23:54It's like I think Ryan opened up at like plus seven hundred.
- 23:59That's fucking huge.
- 24:02Another one, Rio beating Pitbull, like people that were in the know.
- 24:06We knew like this was not going to be like a sweep or anything
- 24:11or like a beat down. Yeah, we knew.
- 24:13But a lot of people that was more of a casuals being surprised.
- 24:19Yeah, everybody in the arena, they were like, what the fuck?
- 24:22But Pitbull was the one coming forward and throwing punches.
- 24:26Did they do anything? Yeah.
- 24:27Though, if they land right, were we were we watching the same thing?
- 24:31Because I don't think so. I called that one.
- 24:34I was pretty sure Rio was going to outbox him.
- 24:37I had my hopes on him.
- 24:38I was tentative just because Rio has had his chin checked before.
- 24:44That was really it. But I had faith in his skills.
- 24:47I have a honorable mention that's not on your list here.
- 24:51Go on. I was fucking shocked to see a beat.
- 24:54Chazora beat Joyce. Is it upset of the year?
- 25:00Probably not. I think it is.
- 25:02It doesn't mean anything, really, other than Joyce's career is probably done.
- 25:09But that shocked the hell out of me. Chazora beating Joyce.
- 25:15That is a that was a big one, just because Chazora
- 25:18has been in the fucking dumpster for a while.
- 25:21And Joyce had those hard fights with Jang.
- 25:24But you can say, OK, it's Jang. Fine. It's OK.
- 25:27It's not what's not bad. It's not terrible to lose to Jang.
- 25:31But fuck no. You lose to Chazora, dude. What are you doing?
- 25:35Are you sure you want to keep doing this? You're almost 40.
- 25:38I was almost upset for Chazora because he needs a couple.
- 25:43I think he has two fights left on his contract or whatever.
- 25:46He needed a couple like give me's and then you beat Joyce.
- 25:49They're going to give you real fights, man. Yeah.
- 25:56I expect that Joyce, if he's going to continue fighting,
- 26:01they're going to put him on like the Dillion White rehab plan.
- 26:05Have you fighting like random dudes from Africa
- 26:09that come out in like IT technician polos?
- 26:14That was such a weird fight.
- 26:16I have several polos just like that from various companies I've worked at.
- 26:22Nice. Chazora, Joyce is a very good one.
- 26:27What else do I have here?
- 26:29Saras, Munguia, of course, cannot. Of course.
- 26:32There's nothing else, I think.
- 26:34No, I mean, that's the obvious correct answer to this question.
- 26:39No recency bias either.
- 26:41The unknown Frenchmen coming and knocking out
- 26:44fucking Munguia in Tijuana.
- 26:47Neighborhood good, never fought outside of France,
- 26:50campaigned at middleweight for knockouts.
- 26:53Yeah, they pulled him up.
- 26:55Jesus. Cherry picks gone wrong.
- 26:58Oh, my goodness.
- 27:00It doesn't get worse than that.
- 27:02It can't get worse than that.
- 27:05Paro beating Matias.
- 27:07That was another that one upset me.
- 27:09I was very shocked. Yeah, about that one. Yeah.
- 27:12Like I did not expect that.
- 27:15Like we were we were having a funeral for Paro before the fight.
- 27:19Yeah, exactly. Wait a second, guys.
- 27:23Yep. That's exactly what I was going to say is like I the joke that I made was like,
- 27:28like, Paro, I hope you have your life insurance and will signed up
- 27:33because this ain't going to be fun for you, buddy.
- 27:35And man, he gave Matias what for and then gets jobbed by Hitchens.
- 27:41Was it a jobbing? I don't know.
- 27:43I just really don't like Hitchens. He is not fun.
- 27:46Another upset.
- 27:48Better be if getting the nod over Beville better be.
- 27:52That was just a robbery. Did not win that fight.
- 27:55I am upset. Beville is very upset.
- 27:57We're all upset except for better.
- 27:59We don't have a robbery of the year category, do we?
- 28:02No, but we have a lot of categories, but that could be a good one to pick up.
- 28:07Robbery of the year, I think, is a crime.
- 28:10I think is a con say so over Foster.
- 28:14Oh, I was shocked when they read those scorecards.
- 28:19Yeah, but but like the fight sucked.
- 28:21The fight sucked.
- 28:23But Foster was clearly better than him.
- 28:26Yeah. But those are all the upsets I got them.
- 28:30Fucking Dave Allen on the Usyk card.
- 28:34Yeah, Johnny Fisher piece of garbage.
- 28:37I mean, it's not Fisher's fault, but he did not win that fight.
- 28:40No, he didn't.
- 28:41Could have been the comeback of the year.
- 28:44The White Rhino could have been hero of the year.
- 28:50Non fighting stuff.
- 28:51Pro Bucks always going to get a nod from me.
- 28:54And they picked up Angelo Leo, rebuilt him, sent him off to win a title,
- 29:01building up other solid prospects, always putting on great fights,
- 29:04putting on cards for fucking free all the time.
- 29:08Yeah.
- 29:08Cannot say no to Pro Box still being hero.
- 29:12Well, I have to agree.
- 29:14Pro Box is really expanding to they had their couple European cards and stuff.
- 29:19I'm glad to see they're doing well.
- 29:21Yeah. The expansion into the UK is really cool.
- 29:24I'm going to make a pointed statement here. Turkey.
- 29:28Anyways, anyway, a hero.
- 29:31One good thing that a fighter has done outside of the ring throughout 2024.
- 29:38Valdez has been volunteering a lot in Tucson and Phoenix areas.
- 29:45So like donating a lot of shit to kids in like needy neighborhoods,
- 29:49school supplies and stuff.
- 29:52Take like a little bit of a break.
- 29:54Like giving gifting passes to boxing gyms for, you know, like older boys.
- 30:04And like, yeah, dude, get off the streets and go fucking hone a craft here.
- 30:09So that's a good thing.
- 30:10I like Valdez for that a lot.
- 30:12It's the type of nobody like sees or hears about that stuff either.
- 30:17That's what kind of bugs me.
- 30:18Fucking Al Hayman hero.
- 30:20I was just going to say, which was the promoter that we found out
- 30:23was paying for some of the injured fighters in his. Isn't that Al Hayman?
- 30:28Yeah, it's Al Hayman.
- 30:29Since 2015, almost 10 years, he's been paying for Pritchard Cologne's
- 30:34medical expenses, helping the family with living expenses.
- 30:38And not a peep out of that man about it.
- 30:41Nobody knew about it until just recently.
- 30:44That is some shit right there.
- 30:46That's a man's man.
- 30:48That's a real man right there.
- 30:50I didn't think I'd ever put a promoter on that list, but.
- 30:53Seriously, I think he deserves it.
- 30:56Absolutely.
- 30:57Like there's a lot of people, like figures like Eddie Hearn
- 31:01that are always in the camera talk about taking care of fighters and stuff,
- 31:05but they never do.
- 31:07If they do, it's it really feels like a publicity stunt.
- 31:10Right. Yeah.
- 31:11If they do anything, it's always to to be noticed or to be seen doing it.
- 31:16I love these stories when you find out years later
- 31:19that somebody's just been being a good human being. Yeah. Oh, man.
- 31:25Where do where does
- 31:28Alexis Rocha fit in for just what's what's the category called for?
- 31:33Just I just cannot bring myself to care.
- 31:36I know that this I know that he's working.
- 31:39He's up in the rankings and everything.
- 31:42I just cannot get excited about him. Yeah.
- 31:46There's lots of fighters like that for me.
- 31:48Yeah. Well, like Shakir is really good.
- 31:52I'm never going to be excited to see him.
- 31:55Last topic.
- 31:57Fight of the year.
- 32:00My midyear pick was Kensho Toraji
- 32:04first kind of solace.
- 32:06That was in like January.
- 32:07Still holds up Ortiz versus Bochachuk.
- 32:11Holy shit. That was amazing.
- 32:13Yeah. Fireworks, fireworks, fireworks.
- 32:16That was just too well, I don't know, like artillery cannons going at each other.
- 32:23I think that has to be my pick.
- 32:25Bochachuk's always in good, exciting fights.
- 32:28I don't care what anyone says.
- 32:30That's what he does.
- 32:31He's more of the Dervienchenko ilk
- 32:35than the like Usyk Lomachenko. Yeah.
- 32:39Of the Ukrainian style,
- 32:41just like the Japanese have a particular flavor
- 32:44that can lean, you know, are they boxer, puncher or puncher, boxer?
- 32:50Ukrainians have the same kind of the same.
- 32:52Yeah. Bochachuk's the indestructible style of Ukrainian.
- 32:56Yeah. Like just a fucking tank.
- 32:59Dervienchenko takes so much punishment.
- 33:02I don't understand it.
- 33:04And it's not just to the head.
- 33:05He doesn't have just a great chin.
- 33:07Like you can't body him either.
- 33:10And Bochachuk's the same.
- 33:11Never been stopped.
- 33:13Dervienchenko, that is.
- 33:15I know that last one probably should have been.
- 33:18But for his sake, yes.
- 33:21But for the sake of his pride or whatever, I get it.
- 33:25Yeah. Oh, Bochachuk has he he lives in L.A.
- 33:29I know he has because he's been signed with Tom Loeffler.
- 33:33The the dude with 360 promotions used to be with K2
- 33:37managed, promoted, slash promoted Golovkin for the longest time.
- 33:42So Bochachuk, I've been keeping up with him since the Hollywood Fight Night days.
- 33:48So I know he's a Los Angeles like local, but his nickname,
- 33:53just like Akitsugi has a Spanish nickname.
- 33:59So does Bochachuk.
- 34:01What's his nickname?
- 34:02El Flaco.
- 34:03It's like the slender guy, the thin guy, skinny guy.
- 34:07That's not a great nickname.
- 34:09Whatever it is, whatever your insecurities are,
- 34:13Mexicans will make that your nickname.
- 34:15It's just what happens.
- 34:16Fair enough.
- 34:17He's six feet, fights at 154.
- 34:22So I can see why they'd call him that.
- 34:25He used to fight at 147.
- 34:27So definitely get it.
- 34:29Another fight.
- 34:31Bam beating Estrada.
- 34:33The back and forth affair.
- 34:36And Estrada was for me, he was the door that got me into being a quote unquote
- 34:46hardcore fan.
- 34:47That was like my introduction to him.
- 34:50Estrada and Roman Gonzalez, their first fight.
- 34:54That was like, man, why do people not watch the smaller weight classes?
- 34:58This shit is so fucking fun.
- 34:59That's what I've been trying to teach people forever.
- 35:04Yeah.
- 35:05The little guys are awesome entertainment.
- 35:08For Estrada to be fighting Bam, who is clearly the next generation of the smaller guys,
- 35:18in a way, of course.
- 35:19But Bam fighting Estrada, it was like there are two wolves inside of you kind of thing.
- 35:27I don't know what to do here because Estrada has always been my favorite.
- 35:32He's also kind of a dickhead.
- 35:34Bam is really awesome.
- 35:36And he's also really cool.
- 35:38I don't know what to do.
- 35:39Bam in street mode is one of my favorite things because he's got the glasses.
- 35:45And I bet you people make fun of him on the street when he walks by.
- 35:51Not to his face, but people will be like, oh, did you see that tiny little guy in the
- 35:54glasses?
- 35:56You just know that that tiny little guy will fuck them up so bad.
- 36:01No kidding.
- 36:02But after, I'm trying to remember who Bam fought.
- 36:05It was Sonny Edwards.
- 36:08After the Sonny fight.
- 36:11Fight of the year, Kanisales, Taraji holds up.
- 36:21Bam Estrada for personal reasons.
- 36:23Bohochuk Ortiz.
- 36:24That's just fireworks.
- 36:27That's the type of shit.
- 36:28If you wanted to get some casual fans involved, show them that.
- 36:34This is...
- 36:35Yeah.
- 36:36Ortiz Bohochuk is my jam.
- 36:38That's the kind of boxing I like, which isn't the best, highest class boxing, but man, is
- 36:44it exciting.
- 36:45It's still, it's a lot more technical than people give it credit for.
- 36:49We talk about it a lot with quote unquote, flatfoot Mexican brawlers.
- 36:55There's so much more technique happening on the inside than you can see.
- 36:58Yeah.
- 36:59But nobody's going to call it a master class.
- 37:02No.
- 37:03No.
- 37:04Same way Usyk kind of gets the, he's like the de facto fighter of the year.
- 37:08Fury Usyk, that whole storyline for the heavyweight division.
- 37:13Kind of, I feel like that has to be the de facto fight of the year as well.
- 37:18Both of them.
- 37:19Well, the first one was more exciting.
- 37:21The first one was definitely more exciting.
- 37:23Yeah.
- 37:24The second one was like a good punctuation.
- 37:26Yeah.
- 37:27I'm still, I'm still picking Ortiz Bohochuk.
- 37:30That's a, yeah, that's a solid one.
- 37:32I think I'm going to go with that.
- 37:33Fury Usyk won for, I guess for the gravitas, but Ortiz Bohochuk is the jam.
- 37:40That's the fun, that's the fun stuff.
- 37:44If you have to explain why it's a good fight, to me personally, it's not fight of the year.
- 37:51If you have to explain the background before you have somebody watch it to get them excited
- 37:57about it, that's not it for me.
- 38:01I need something that I can just send the link to my dad and be like, watch this.
- 38:07Yeah.
- 38:09That's one of the old proverbs about arguments or whatever.
- 38:13If you have to start explaining, you're losing.
- 38:16Yeah.
- 38:17If you have to explain.
- 38:18The only tag I would have for like Taraji Kanesales, they're smaller guys, but it's
- 38:23fucking fun.
- 38:24Watch it.
- 38:25Yeah.
- 38:26I mean, that's not explaining anything though.
- 38:30That's just getting somebody to watch it.
- 38:32Right.
- 38:33Like I was explaining my whole shit with Estrada and then bam and blah, blah, blah.
- 38:39That's fight of the year in my heart, but it's not going to get the fans, new fans.
- 38:45That's emotional fight of the year.
- 38:47That's it.
- 38:48That's all we got for picks.
- 38:52We do have a lot of categories.
- 38:53Yeah, we have 10, but some that I've been seeing that are interesting is like a nation
- 39:03of the year.
- 39:05Which nation is having the best year in boxing?
- 39:08Like obviously Japan right now.
- 39:10Fuck yes, Japan.
- 39:11No questions asked.
- 39:12I think that's the only answer right now.
- 39:14There is no other answer.
- 39:16If you say something other than Japan, you're fucking wrong.
- 39:20You don't watch the lower weight classes if you say anything other than Japan.
- 39:24Yeah.
- 39:25And I expect if you're going to say something other than Japan, it might be Ukraine.
- 39:29Yeah.
- 39:30They've got three belts, four belts right now.
- 39:33There are four people with belts, I think.
- 39:36Yeah.
- 39:37It's not even necessarily the belts.
- 39:39It's just that they're having a really successful year.
- 39:42Ohechuk, even though he lost, still in some awesome fight with Ortiz, beat the shit out
- 39:50of Brian Mendoza.
- 39:53Feel bad for Brian after that.
- 39:56Yeah.
- 39:57I hope PBC makes him whole and gives him a good payday for a softer touch.
- 40:04He steps in all the time for them.
- 40:06Usyk, of course, Derevyanchenko, even though he lost to Imbili, valiant effort, one-armed
- 40:16and still went the distance.
- 40:18I really think Derev would have won that if he didn't hurt his arm.
- 40:22I agree.
- 40:23That was an early, early arm injury.
- 40:26Dennis Baranciak wins the 135 title, beating Nav.
- 40:32That was a good one.
- 40:34Karen, like I said about Jaron Ennis, excellent performance, even though he lost.
- 40:41Vostik gave David Benavides all he could handle, even though he lost.
- 40:46I didn't even realize he was Ukrainian.
- 40:49Yeah.
- 40:50I think that's enough.
- 40:51I would say Ukraine is a good second based on everything I just listed, but they're not
- 40:58wins, so can't really give it to them.
- 41:00Japan has fucking all the champions right now.
- 41:04It's crazy.
- 41:05And there's so many title fights all the time, and it's awesome living here right now.
- 41:11I bet.
- 41:13Oh, Japan.
- 41:15Inoue, no shit.
- 41:17Nakatani, no shit.
- 41:19Andy Hiraoka on the come up.
- 41:23Love that guy.
- 41:25Yep.
- 41:26Tana, despite losing, still a solid competitor, punch burger champion.
- 41:32I mean, even little in a way.
- 41:34I know he lost to punch burger, but he had a good year too.
- 41:37Yeah, he's still a solid, solid name.
- 41:40Losing to punch burger is nothing to be ashamed of.
- 41:43Kosei Tanaka had that awesome, awesome fight with Kafu, even though he lost.
- 41:48Yeah, that was good.
- 41:49Quote unquote lost.
- 41:50It was really, really close.
- 41:52Higa.
- 41:53Yep.
- 41:54Daigo Higa.
- 41:55For the purposes.
- 41:56Karate.
- 41:57I mean, there's the kid.
- 41:58Well, he's not that young anymore.
- 42:01Natsukawa.
- 42:02Tenshin.
- 42:03Yep.
- 42:04Tenshin.
- 42:05Thank you.
- 42:06I was going to save that one for the end to really put a cherry on the Japanese fucking
- 42:11cake there.
- 42:12Iwata.
- 42:13Iwata really impressed me this year.
- 42:16That Aoi Yokoyama.
- 42:18Yeah.
- 42:19That kid.
- 42:20Yep.
- 42:21It's a good year to be a Japanese boxing fan.
- 42:25It really is.
- 42:26For the purposes of giving accolades to Japan, they'll count Daigo Higa.
- 42:33But the second he slips, he's from Okinawa.
- 42:37We don't care.
- 42:38Yeah.
- 42:39Yeah.
- 42:40Wow.
- 42:41Japan likes to disown people all the time.
- 42:43Yeah.
- 42:44I think the Brits do it with like Scotland and Ireland.
- 42:49Yeah.
- 42:50They do the same thing.
- 42:53Okay.
- 42:56Now.
- 42:59Enough of a tangent.
- 43:00Yeah.
- 43:01We'll see how much of that.
- 43:02Patreon only.
- 43:03Yeah.
- 43:04If you want to find out what the best flag in America is, check out our Patreon.
- 43:09You're going to have to go to Patreon because how much of that actually makes the final

- 44:36Anyways.
- 44:37So yeah, parting words.
- 44:40Okay.
- 44:41Parting words going into the new year.
- 44:45So I saw, not a trend, but just like an internet post suggesting fun New Year's resolutions
- 44:53instead of like productive ones.
- 44:56Yeah.
- 44:57Yeah.
- 44:58So like every time I see a new Chinese restaurant, I try it or I go to, you know, every art museum
- 45:08in, or one art museum in every city I visit this year.
- 45:13I think that's better.
- 45:15Cause I always give myself resolutions that I don't like.
- 45:20So I haven't figured out what my fun one is this year, but I'm going to do a fun resolution.
- 45:25I never thought to do that.
- 45:27I hadn't either, but it makes sense.
- 45:30I did that.
- 45:31You can just do fun ones.
- 45:32Yeah.
- 45:33I know that I did that when I f***ed up, New Year was like right around the corner.
- 45:37So I didn't consciously do it, but I did make like more positive resolutions.
- 45:43Like let's do fun stuff.
- 45:46Stuff that makes me happy.
- 45:47Yeah.
- 45:48So, I mean, it's probably important to do your other type of resolution as well, but
- 45:54this year I think I'm only doing fun ones.
- 45:56Yeah.
- 45:57Every party I go to, I'm taking a f***.
- 46:00Is that a good one?
- 46:01Is that fun?
- 46:02I mean, I guess if that's your fun one.
- 46:07And then I have, not affiliated or anything, but I have a gamify your life app that I really
- 46:17like that I find helpful with resolutions and stuff.
- 46:21It's called Habitica and you put in like habits and to-dos and stuff.
- 46:25And when you click them off, your little character gets experience points.
- 46:29It's like an RPG.
- 46:30That sounds pretty fun.
- 46:32Yeah.
- 46:33I really like it.
- 46:34If you're looking for something to help you with your resolutions, check it out.
- 46:39It's free.
- 46:40You can subscribe and then you get gems to buy skins and that sort of thing, but you
- 46:45can just use it totally free.
- 46:48Hmm.
- 46:49Heading into 2025.
- 46:51F***ing hit that follow button, subscribe button, wherever the f*** you're listening
- 46:54to this.
- 46:55Check out the socials.
- 46:58If you want to have like more fun social media stuff, I would suggest checking out Instagram
- 47:03and Twitter.
- 47:04I just kind of repost stuff there for the, just for the sake of doing it.
- 47:10Not because I actually like that platform.
- 47:13So yeah, heading into 2025, you're going to subscribe to all our s*** and you're going
- 47:19to check out all the other shows in the Lux Media family because like we just have the
- 47:24biggest ding-dongs of all time.
- 47:26Even Shannata has a bigger ding-dong.
- 47:27Especially me.
- 47:28Yeah, she's a bigger ding-dong than all of you listening.
- 47:30If you don't agree, 833 Luxpods.
- 47:32Tell me why not.
